Air Force: Turning Over Stones With the Mind—and Our Money
USA Today reports on the Air Force's investigation into psychic teleportation:
The Air Force Research Lab's August "Teleportation Physics Report," posted earlier this week on the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) Web site, struck a raw nerve with physicists and critics of wasteful military spending.
In the report, author Eric Davis says psychic teleportation, moving yourself from location to location through mind powers, is "quite real and can be controlled."
…..
Davis, a physicist with Warp Drive Metrics of Las Vegas, couldn't be reached for comment. The Air Force paid $25,000 for the report, part of a $20.5 million advanced rocket and missile design contract. The report calls for $7.5 million to conduct psychic teleportation experiments."The views expressed in the report are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect the official policy of the Air Force, the Department of Defense or the U.S. Government," says an Air Force Research Lab (AFRL) statement sent to USA TODAY. "There are no plans by the AFRL Propulsion Directorate for additional funding on this contract."
Explaining why the lab sponsored the study, AFRL spokesman Ranney Adams said, "If we don't turn over stones, we don't know if we have missed something."

Holy shit. This is the kind of thing people should go to prison over. Of course, here in the good ole US of A, we are kept distracted with Martha Stewart so none of the pilferers of the public purse needs fear.
And how will you ever fight a successful war in the Caribbean if you don't first develop your psychics? We have some scary voodoo in the islands!
So is this the faith based initiatives we've been hearing so much about?
Leave no tax dollar unspent.
Are we discriminating against Wiccans if we don't include them in the study of magical powers? Maybe they should be given some funds to demonstrate their abilities as well. Think of it as reparations for Halloween!
"If we don't turn over stones, we don't know if we have missed
something."
Kafka's Before the Law captured 'straw-grasping' desperation and the wellsprings of
obsessive-compulsion in similar words, "I am only taking it to keep you
from thinking you have omitted anything." It was a waste, too.
Or for you trendier folks, Ray Bradbury's story about the dude polishing the wax apples in the
bottom of the bowl.

....Did he blink himself away from the phone?
The Air Force should give James Randi a call.
Remember, kids, if not for the Air Force's tireless devotion to extra-mainstream exploration, we wouldn't have swingers today.
Via my giant antenna, I've received a message that Maj. Ed Dames is preparing a statement.
You learn the oddest things on the internet.

Mo,

Pro Libertate,
You are quite right. Bullshit needs to do an episode about this (again!).
I thought that they had finally de-funded this type of bullshit. I know they stopped funding the "remote viewing" "research" that was being done in California (after a decade or more of pouring millions of dollars into it).
Speaking of voodoo (Ms. Cleo), it doesn't seem to be demonstrating any redeeming social value in Haiti, does it?
