President Jefferson signs the Embargo Act
The Embargo Act halted all trading as a retaliatory measure against the trade policies of the British and the French, then fighting the Napoleonic Wars.
The Embargo Act raised various constitutional questions that involve all three branches of government. For instance, multiple justices, while riding circuit, flagged Jeffersonian overreach.
