"Strangers on the Internet" Podcast Episode 20: AI Dating Advice
What's a bot got to do with it?
The twentieth episode (Apple Podcasts link here and Spotify link here) of Strangers on the Internet with co-host and psychologist Michelle Lange deals with artificial intelligence (AI) chat bots, which have been all the rage in recent months. From concerns about academic plagiarism to questions about whether they may replace workers in many industries, the news has been abuzz with articles about platforms such as ChatGPT. Some chat bots specialize in particular areas, such as providing dating coaching. We put several bots to the test to see if their dating advice is up to snuff.
What does AI think about the quality of the male versus female dating pools? Does it believe there is someone out there for everyone? And would AI ever advise you to lie to get the kind of partner you want? Come check out the hilarious results of our conversations with romance-minded chat bots!

I see a short story where an AI is programmed to imitate a human and find the perfect date...and ends up finding another AI.
Great idea. When it's made into a movie, my modest contribution is: The theme song for the opening/closing credits is "Escape." (ie, The Piña Colada Song)
Female computer bot: What do you like to do on a first date?
Male bot: I like long walks, doing charity work, and overclocking my processor. How about you?
Female bot: I like having poetry read to me, having my feet rubbed, and you putting your software into my hardware.
Male bot: Software into hardware? How about doing the opposite? Beep, borp. Humor protocol initiated!!!
Female: Does not compute. Does not compute. Hee, hee. Kinky. Bleep, blorp. Insert humorous comment about size of your USB stick. Beep, beep, hmmm, beep.
[and so on]
That rings a faint bell, I think there may already be such a story. I'll try to find it.
So, would Captain Kirk try to outwit the dating AI...or try to have carnal relations with it? Or both?
He would outwith the dating AI by having carnal relations with it.
As more information emerges with respect to Bryan Kohberger -- disaffected, antisocial, raised in the part of Pennsylvania that might as well be in West Virginia or Alabama, awkward, unsuccessful with women, perhaps "on the spectrum," a misfit, self-described libertarian -- the obvious question arises:
Does anyone know the screen name Bryan Kohberger used when commenting at the Volokh Conspiracy?
In the vast majority of cases, the smeller's the feller.
Modern women have all but the one thing they want, and can't get it.
Your respect?
This problem is contrived. AI doesn't scare me at all. Real people who come to trash apps like Tinder scare me. Lie? Shouldn't they be taught this? It's in the blood of every guy from Tinder .. In general, I tried to communicate there and realized that I do not want to waste time and nerves on this. There are other options for those who want to start with online communication. I was advised a local option, anchorage hookups - https://www.nastyhookups.com/alaska/anchorage/hookup.html My city is small, but it’s still more convenient for me to start communication with the online version so that I have the opportunity to get to know the person better.
