Davis v. Adams, 400 U.S. 1203 (decided August 5, 1969): Black upholds stay of Florida statute requiring incumbents of state office to resign that office before running for federal office; Black notes that there is not enough time before election for full Court to rule but believes that it will hold that Florida cannot add qualifications to candidates for federal office
Scaggs v. Larsen, 396 U.S. 1206 (decided August 5, 1969): Douglas holds that habeas corpus can be invoked by serviceman who claims that his term of duty was unfairly extended (he was penalized for not reporting for training but he was for some reason not permitted to attend); orders him released; 9th Circuit later affirmed conviction (without opinion) and cert denied, with Douglas dissenting
One thing that has always puzzled me is why office-holders get to routinely spend time - a lot of time - campaigning, whether for re-election or another office.
I can vaguely see the argument that running for re-election is part of the job (not really, but OK), but campaigning for something else?
It's not unheard of for someone to run for two offices at the same time. Even two federal offices -- several times, a Vice-Presidential candidate was running simultaneously for reelection to Congress (Bentsen in 1988, Lieberman in 2000, Biden in 2008, Ryan in 2012).
I wonder if anyone has ever run for three offices at once!
I think the voters could hold that against them. Or ought to.
It had to have hurt them, in the election for the bigger prize. I do remember some blowback against Bentsen.
Listened to the tape, what a gyp, no smoke, no gun, and that's the thanks Milhouse Gets, after ending JFK/LBJ's wah, Starting the EPA, OSHA, appointing 3 of the Judges who voted for Feticide, Negotiating release of POW's, First POTUS to visit Chy-na, Arms Control with Roosh-A (Nixon gets SALT I ratified by a D controlled Senate, Jimmuh Cartuh couldn't get SALT II through an even more D controlled Senate)
OK, taping incriminating conversations was pretty stupid.
And my Dad flew B-52's so he voted for McGovern (Absentee)
Frank "Nixon's the One!"
Umm, seeing as how I was 10 at the time, don't really consider Veet-nam "My Wah" we're 1-0 in the one I played in Desert Storm where GHWB had the good sense to get the eff out (You saw how fell "W" /Barry Hussein/Somnolent Joe "Finished" it (Checked the "Wah" box on my bucket list, don't really need to see another one) in fact we got a big Ticker Tape Parade in New Yawk like we just won the Worlds Serious, women I didn't even know giving me French kisses at JFK, (Hmm, maybe another Wah wouldn't be so bad)
Frank "Likes Happy Endings" and "Wah is not healthy for living things or my bank account"
The United States military hasn't won a war since World War II. Since then, American taxpayers have settled for a series of vague draws against junior varsity irregulars (despite enormous taxpayer-provided resource advantages).
Said by a true idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing, (Just made that up, like Sleepy Joe did, and like "Dr" Jill Biden did with her PhD Dissertation)
anyone referring to the North Korean/Peoples Repubic of Chy-na Army, and the NVA/NLF as "Junior Varsity Irregulars" is,
umm, an Idiot, think I said that already,
but hey, "Reverend" not everyone can serve, especially when you showed up for your Induction physical with those "Special" Orthopedic Shoes with the mirrors....
Frank "You're welcome for my Service"
A junior varsity team that holds its own against a varsity team is still a junior varsity team.
Actually had that photo of Milhouse on my Bulletin Board in 70-71, School had this deal where you could order books/posters every month, had both JFK and Milhouse (didn't really understand politics at age 8) and Vida Blue (as a fellow lefty pitcher, "True" Blue had the coolest windup) by 74" was using Milhouses photo as a Dart Board (He had to be bad, Walter Cronkite said so!)
If you have not listened to this Nixon tape, I promise it is 10 minutes of solid-gold entertainment. Richard Nixon, John Ehrlichman, and Bob Haldeman discuss All in the Family, including the pro-Nixon Archie Bunker, his flaky daughter, and his anti-Nixon son-in-law (who is probably bisexual), which segues into a discussion of homosexuality as the downfall of great societies, how "faggy" San Francisco is becoming, and Nixon's suspicion that his daughter's wedding planner is gay.
WARNING: If you're present-day woke, I'm fairly certain you will find this extremely triggering and offensive, and I sincerely recommend not listening.

Reading your description makes me want to torture some undergrads by making them watch All in the Family.
As opposed to spelling, which he doesn't.
