"D.C. lawmaker who said Jews control the weather visits Holocaust Museum but leaves early"

Not an Onion headline (but maybe subconsciously influenced by one).

The Washington Post (Peter Jameson) has the headline, and the story (for more on the Council member's earlier "Rothschilds controlling the climate" "to own the cities" incident, see here):

The photo, taken in 1935, depicts a woman in a dark dress shuffling down a street in Norden, Germany. A large sign hangs from her neck: "I am a German girl and allowed myself to be defiled by a Jew." She is surrounded by Nazi stormtroopers.

D.C. Council member Trayon White Sr. (D-Ward 8) studied the image. "Are they protecting her?"

Lynn Williams, an expert on educational programs at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and White's tour guide for the day, stared at the photo.

"No," she said. "They're marching her through."

"Marching through is protecting," White said.

"I think they're humiliating her," Williams replied.

They're trying so hard to rehabilitate him, but it doesn't look like he's doing his part.

Very early in the Holocaust, on 19 August 1941, when a German unit shot the adults in the Russian village of Byelaya Tserkow, an army chaplain managed to persuade a German military officer to protect a group of children under 6, who were left to cry for a couple of days before the orders were overridden and they, too, were shot. The chaplain and officer were severely reprimanded for causing an inhumane situation. All that crying and noise being allowed to bother people, to get them all upset, and not having the decency to cut it off from the beginning.

The statues mean different things to different people; if Memphis wants to play political games in order to remove the things, the legislature can be expected to respond.
I also like the article's author insinuating that people (or, maybe just white people) from small jurisdictions should not have the temerity to try to pass laws that offend city folk (especially, I guess, if said folk are non-white)

As to TN, why is it "political games" when Memphis wants to remove statues that mean something vile to most of its citizens, and not political games when the legislature wants to punish the city for doing so, because the statues mean something else - the nobility of defending slavery I guess - to people who don't live there?

I thought conservatives were all for decentralized decision-making. Not when it comes to cities, as usual.

And I notice you failed to comment on the part of the article that was more directly relevant to the OP. They couldn't pass a resolution condemning white nationalism and neo-Nazis. What do you think about that? Or is it just another "means different things to different people" deal to you?

In light of the visitor's wholesale misapprehension of the realities disclosed by the Holocaust museum, and in light of his earlier (generously construed) faux pas, the early departure may have been for the best, foreshortening as it may have any further opportunities for displays of (generously put) bias.
