You Call Yourself Project Cassandra, and You Wonder Why No-One Acts on Your Analysis?

See the original Politico story and this breaking story about the AG launching a review of the initiative (thanks to Glenn Reynolds (InstaPundit) for the pointer):

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is launching a review of a law enforcement initiative called Project Cassandra after an investigative report was published this week claiming the Obama administration gave a free pass to Hezbollah's drug-trafficking and money-laundering operations to help ensure the Iran nuclear deal would stay on track.

Seriously, I don't know if there's any there there, but I couldn't resist the joke about the project name. (Special news hook: One version of the Cassandra myth would be understood today as being about sexual harassment, but then again many Greek myths would be.)

Nobody believed Cassandra's prophecy about the Wooden Horse before the Trojans brought it into the city. But the following day, it turned out she was right.

Maybe Project Cassandra is reference to contemporaneous GOP claims that the Iran deal was a nest of vipers. Claims which were not believed at the time. But now it's the morning after.

I think you hit it, Cassandra constantly warned of of coming evil but she was mocked for it, only to be proven right by history. The hardcore Republican base probably imagines considerable kinship in her.

Calling what Cassandra suffered sexual harassment understates it a bit. I assume you are referring to her initial curse by Apollo for resisting his attempted rape, the curse having been bestowed after he spat in her mouth. Apollo's curse to only speak truth but never be believed, is much like the retaliation against resisting women by so many of these sexual predators, as is that he assaulted her while she was worshipping him.

But she is in away the perfect sexual assault victim. She was raped by Ajax before a statue of Athena, and though his native Locris was perpetually cursed for it, Ajax himself was not punished by the Greeks for the sacrilege because it was inconvenient. Which is certainly familiar as well.

Her final fate enslaved and raped again by Agamemnon before being murdered by his wife, even let her win the superfecta of sexual assault, with bonus sexual trafficking. Assaulted by her boss, not believed when she told the truth, raped, and then murdered by a more priveleged jealous woman because of her very victimization.

Glad it's being investigated, but certainly hope it's not true.

The US has been on the opposite side of Iran in the Yemeni civil war. I'd imagine Yemen is a whole lot more important to the shiites that it is the US.

Given Obama's strong track record of using drones and special ops to take out terrorists, it's hard for me to imagine the story will live up to the aspersions in the report.

The politico story is being met with a surprising amount if skepticism. If it's true, I wonder if the DoJ and Treasury officials who hindered the investigations will face obstruction of justice charges.

Is it even obstruction of justice? The President has wide authority over foreign policy, and there's certainly a lot of precedent for using the possibility of criminal prosecution or other sanctions as a negotiating tool.

It seems to me that trying to bring criminal charges against folks for implementing the President's foreign policy is a bad idea.

Making pursuit of an agreement with Iran with respect to nuclear development a bigger priority than pursuit of people transacting in cocaine (which should be, and will be, legal)?

What if Americans of a century ago had focused more on arranging peace than they had on chasing smugglers of beer and whiskey?

For goodness sake and the love of sweet eight-pound, six-ounce infant baby Jesus, today's America might be overrun by beer distributors, limited wineries, craft brewers, and liquor dealers, not to mention Lime-a-Ritas, salted caramel vodkas, and overhopped IPAs!!!

I sense this one will be every bit the nation-imperiling scandal as were Benghazi, Hillary's e-mails, Operation Jade Helm, and Obama's birth certificate.
