Sen. Jeff Sessions is a good pick for crime victims

My friend Steve Twist and I published an op-ed today, explaining why Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) will be a great attorney general for crime victims - a group that has been too often overlooked in recent years. Here are the opening lines:

As two crime victims' rights advocates and law professors, we welcome the announcement that President-elect Trump will nominate Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions to be the next attorney general of the United States. Senator Sessions has a long and robust record of fighting for justice, and more specifically for enforceable victims' rights. If confirmed by the Senate, he will undoubtedly be a powerful voice for crime victims as the chief law enforcement officer of the United States.

Along with the recent passage of Marsy's Law in several states, which I blogged about previously, the Sessions nomination promises to make this an exciting time for crime victims' rights advocates. If Sessions is confirmed, I would expect to see more discussions about the Victims' Rights Amendment, the proposed federal constitutional amendment to protect victims of crime.
