Voting Laws, High-Speed Rails, and Vaccine Passports
It's a regulation-heavy Monday.

The original editors of The Reason Roundtable are back this Monday. Matt Welch prods Katherine Mangu-Ward, Peter Suderman, and Nick Gillespie on Georgia's voting laws and MLB boycotts, Biden's infrastructure plan, and COVID-19 vaccine passports.
Discussed in the show:
2:19: Baseball boycott, Georgia's new voting law.
18:18: Biden's infrastructure bill. Specifically: high-speed rails, unions, and solving racial injustice.
36:55: Weekly Listener Question: "With the continued rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine, we've had more groups of people become available to take it. What are the levers that libertarians would pull or buttons libertarians would push to get people to take the vaccine?"
48:51: Media recommendations for the week.

Is it just me, or is it strange the amount of coverage that election integrity laws this year are getting compared to, for example, election debasement laws from last year?
It's almost like the mainstream media's talking points are determined by an email list group...a journo-list if you were
You mean a urinal-list?

Surely they wouldn’t do something like that after already getting caught.
Their OPSEC got a lot better after Daily Caller busted them a few years ago. Now the coordinated talking points aren't apparent until after the stories have been released.
It would take a whistle-blower, like the person who leaked the posts of the Louden Country Red Guard Facebook page that showed them making lists of wrong-thinkers, to expose where the current journolist is operating.
"Surely they wouldn’t do something like that after already getting caught"
Twice. And they all got promotions from it.
I'm still waiting for reason to read the electors clause myself.
Chuckle.
They will the moment it's in Uncle Charles' or the DNC's best interests and not a moment sooner.
The commies are worried that they are losing civil war 2.0
First election laws are changed to prevent commies from stealing elections, then Americans vote in trump 3 times in a row!!,!!!,!

>>What are the levers that libertarians would pull or buttons libertarians would push to get people to take the vaccine?"
leave me alone to find my own way home.
Since when do libertarians believe that there should be levers to pull or buttons to push to make people do things they don't want to do? What the hell has happened to Reason?
the "get people to take" sounded pusher-y
"What the hell has happened to Reason?"
Money. Their major benefactor likes it this way.
Jarring to read though, isn't it?
But they align with the current LP.
Professional "libertarianism" is corrupt beyond repair.
This. It’s been a long time since I’ve been a card carrying member of the LP, so I don’t pay a lot of attention to them. When I do see something from the official party it makes me sad. Jo being anti-racist isn’t an outlier.
And yet there are fucking loons who think she wasnt anti-racist enough
This is why libertarian ideas will never catch on, because libertarians are actively opposed to trying to convince anyone who isn't already a libertarian lol
Except they are actively fighting against more than half of the libertarians pushing the leftist narrative day in and day out. ENB wants to kick put the Ron Paul wing to make it more lefty.
Those were some particularly insane tweets, but what was even more disgusting was Robby and Emo Fonzie rushing in to white knight for her afterwards.
They went woke due to Twitter and mainstream media going full bore. 90% of the editors here just repeat the narrative as that is the easy publication path. Need time for cocktail parties.
Since central planning collectivists came up with the word “nudge”. Nudge enough to vaccinate around 90 percent of the population, so that the scritters kid/grandkids do not need to take on unknown risks of this, first of its kind, vaccine technology.
Let Darwinism take it's course.
Making it free isn't enough?
Did they even mention H.R. 1?
Voting bills of unusual size? I don't think they exist.
Albeit scrolling through the Quotes section of IMDB, and finding this, was a bit like looking down and finding a cockroach in your salad:
So the prophecies were true...
Will MLB explain why you need a photo ID to pick up your baseball game tickets, but shouldn’t need one to vote?
Magic 8-Ball says: Unlikely.
With MLB tickets, real consequences are at stake.
Who wants to go to Atlanta anyways? You can now watch the All Star game in Denver while smoking a fat spliff. They will require a current photo ID to buy the dope though.
High-Speed Rails
Another Hunter Biden story?
It was his nickname is high school.
in high school.
Damn it.
Calling him high school kind of works.
I bet he was the kind of kid in middle school who swore a lot and hid knives in his locker.
The "Cornpop story" influenced him. He must have heard that tale 100 times.
Watching pro sports self destruct is a joy. Overhyped overpaid and ridiculous narcissism.
The media already did that to itself.
Movie revenues down 45% from 2019.
Agreed. Pro sports are going the way of Kobe's bargain basement helicopter with the swoosh.
I’m not, and had never, at any point in my life, considered myself anti vaccine. But- - the internet. Listen to the vaccine podcast,”Darkhorse”, Evolutionary Biologists, Bret Weinstein and his significant other, episode 58. My husband and I (over 50) will take the vaccine. My concern with children and t/tweens taking this vaccine is long term autoimmune disorders. This particular technology, a first in vaccine history, could be the best thing since indoor plumbing. I’m now skeptical with younger generations. We simply do not know.
Now I’ll stop with my skepticism?
People rejoice about NYS legalization. But NYC pot lovers are not going to like this. Application of the anti-smoking laws are going to be a bummer. Remember second and third hand smoke arguments? I think they are about to get less popular in the liberal circle.

They already are. Just exempt pot. Easy peasy.
Oh, you thought that there was some magic rule that we had to be consistent?
I don't think those exceptions will stand against lawsuits.
Smoking dope is so 60s,70s, and 80s. Vaporizers, dabs and edibles are the new "thing". "Dabs" will disable their youth for the next few years.
Anybody actually listen to these idiots and come away impressed? Or is it the same bull shit both sides angle?
Sadly, I get the feeling I’m listening to Salon.com or Vox, or worse.
You basically are!
FYI, college sports are much bigger money makers in Georgia than pro sports.
Cobb county, Georgia gets pro sports money and money from college bowl games.
Georgians are slapping democrats down left and right in Georgia and the media isnt covering it. Just like the media doesnt cover that georgia has had no lockdown nor any mask mandates. We have one of the strongest economies in the USA over the last year. They wont say, but I bet georgia is beating blue states in GDP output this year.
Hey check this out helpful blog, oddbox
Note to Matt Welch - the Braves now play in Cobb county, not Fulton
What happened to this publication?
First of all, they only take questions from people who fawn on them first. Then the question is essentially, "How can we force people to do stuff without using the government?" Most alarmingly, all but Nick had a few ideas.
So libertarianism is now "it's fine to engage in social engineering and mandating favored behaviors as long as it isn't the government doing it?" What the fuck?
Nick is the only one who makes sense. I was grateful beyond words when he expressed concern about vaccine passports as a concept.
I'll send them a question next week: "You guys are amazing! I love you so much! I loved that one article by that one guy! Hey, how can libertarians control people's behavior without using the government? Because then it's okay to restrict freedom!! The free market is anti-freedom!!"
I'm seriously disappointed. Every fucking week. Which makes me realize it's time to stop listening to these disconnected assholes. (To be fair, they live in DC and NYC, where they probably qualify as libertarian.)
Is it really just me, or would the amount of media coverage given to voter suppression laws this year seem excessive when compared to, say, electoral debasement laws from last year?
