Will Coronavirus Be the Sweet Matzo Ball of Death?
Unraveling panic, policy, and bad metaphors on the Reason Roundtable podcast

People say a lot of things about the coronavirus. For instance, that the United States should "lock down our borders" in response, or that the Trump administration has recklessly "gutted" the Centers for Disease Control, or that the rubes have foolishly stopped drinking Corona for health reasons instead of taste reasons.
Nonsense cubed, argue Peter Suderman, Katherine Mangu-Ward, Nick Gillespie, and Matt Welch on a particularly metaphor-crazed Reason Roundtable podcast today. What is the "libertarian response to pandemics"? You'll have to listen to find out. Other topics coming up for discussion: the unbearable oldness of the Democratic presidential field, the increasing sourness of sci-fi legend William Gibson, and whether baseball, Batman, or The Omega Man provide the surest blueprint for our times.

Antisemites.
Mizek approves.
Why is Gibson sour?
I never particularly liked Gibson. Seemed like he extrapolated linear increases of problems without any thought as to how they were self-limiting. Made for a boring premise, like "Assume a spherical cow".
I got that Vietnamese coronavirus song stuck in my head.
That's probably just the syphilis.
I am sorry the song is stuck in your head as well, but I don't think it's your syphilis causing it, since I don't have syphilis.
Obsessively using it as a diversion from the fact that Trump just ended the longest war in American history, if Reason is any guide.
Took three years to sign a peace treaty to take over a year to get 14,000 troops out, and then the Taliban violated it right away.
Ya, that's excellent. Way to go.
Who cares? It’s f@ing Afghanistan, not Florida!
I wager it's not cutting interest rates, more deficit spending and colluding with the globalists who control the central banks? I'm so tired of winning.
awesome, thanks for share hobiwd
Why should I have to listen? How hard is it to provide a transcription? Hell, google will do it for free.
Accuracy will cost you extra.
Seeing the elderly are most at risk, especially men, I can understand why Congress is so worried, most Congresspersons, Senators and Presidential candidates are in that group.
Careful, you’ll get a few coronavirus carriers visiting the hill.
Oh, wait...
The gender divide as I understand it is driven by the much higher incidence of smoking among Chinese men than women.
What is the "libertarian response to pandemics"?
We should encourage large gatherings of people and lots of international travel during a pandemic to weed out the weak.
I hope not. https://www.bluonenergy.com/hvac-manuals/
