  • Fist of Etiquette||

    Former Trump aide Richard Gates is expected to plead guilty and agree to testify against Paul Manafort.

    No honor among colluders.

  • Wizard with a Woodchipper||

    Gates' change of heart is likely due to the fact that he does not have the money needed for a "high-powered legal defense" and the fact that prosecutors are expected to significantly cut down his sentence if he cooperates.

    Pretty much how Mueller got Flynn.

  • Citizen X - #6||

    Pretty much how every prosecutor gets anybody.

  • Jerryskids||

    Here's an interesting article on that concerning a current Fifth Circuit case.

    As the Supreme Court famously wrote only a few years ago (quoting a renowned law review article): plea bargaining "is not some adjunct to the criminal justice system; it is the criminal justice system." If prosecutors have no constitutional disclosure obligations in these cases, it would be difficult to say they have any meaningful obligations at all.

    The government is arguing that obligating them to disclose exculpatory evidence during plea bargain negotiations would be an onerous task crippling the expeditious processing of cases while at the same time arguing that Brady disclosure is unnecessary because the issue so rarely comes into play. Which to a normal, non-lawyer-type person would seem to be contradictory positions.

  • Jerryskids||

    Of course, people who have no idea how the criminal justice system actually works don't believe that an innocent person would agree to accept a plea bargain. But if it's some bullshit charge and you're offered a time served deal in exchange for a guilty plea versus entering a not guilty plea and then sitting in jail for the better part of a year awaiting trial because bail has been set high enough that you can't make it, what are you going to do? Especially if the bullshit charge comes down to your word against a lying-ass cop and you know you ain't winning that case anyway.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    Yup. Its similar to people being surprised when innocent people confess to crimes they didn't commit.

    The system as it currently stands can crush defendant's will to stand up for themselves.

    The Founders knew this and wanted to protect the positions accused people were in compared to the power of the state.

  • damikesc||

    With the way prosecutors behave, we should fully permit the people being questioned to lie. If prosecutors and investigators are free to lie without penalty, why should the accused have lesser rights?

  • Citizen X - #6||

    How about just act like anyone else would and just uncomfortably sit around while the one person with social graces changes the subject instead of complain about it to the press?

    "Last week, prior to filing his complaint, Kernick and three other ex-staffers issued an open letter to Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon charging that Garcia, a powerful Democratic lawmaker who until recently headed the legislative Women's Caucus, presided over a "toxic" workplace where activities included regular heavy drinking with staffers, sexually charged meetings and raunchy conversations highlighting intimate details of her sex life."

    Uhh... this lady sounds fantastic. I would 100% work for her just based off this alone.

  • JoeBlow123||

    "The industry lobbyist said he was surprised last year when, during a late-morning policy meeting in Garcia's Capitol office, the assemblywoman poured beer from a kegerator — a refrigerator with a beer tap on top — located in her office."

    She offered the brew in red Solo cups to the group of lobbyists, even though it was "sometime between 11 a.m. and noon ... a little early,'' the lobbyist said."

    LOLOLOL this woman is a beast!

    Manafort's issue have, literally, nothing to do with Trump.

    MEANWHILE, he did work for the lobbying firm of the OTHER campaign's manager, who managed that other campaign for the ENTIRE election and not for a couple of months.

    He ran the campaign for about two and a half months, buttplug.

    Then Trump fired him because he had not been forthright about his Russian ties.

    But, no two ways about it, buttplug: Manafort was known to be scummy even for a political consultant -- in the same scumminess league as the Podesta brothers -- and Trump made a huge error in replacing Lewandowski with Manafort.

    BTW, I love the way you refer to Trump as "The Dotard". That's a really clever way to refer to the guy who defeated the awesomely intelligent, well-connected, and well-funded Democratic candidate who like a 9:1 favorite in the race. I suppose that means you really think that the Boris and Natasha must have hacked the election.

    There is one big problem with this investigation and the politics surrounding it: people who want Trump and the GOP protected can speak directly to him through the teevee and convince him of anyhting they want.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    The media has a bit of a history of withholding stories that break narrative.

  • Tony||

    By "narrative" you mean any truth that doesn't give Republican scrotums a constant tongue bath.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    New survey of presidential historians already ranks Trump as dead last:

    https://goo.gl/cCQvcH

    Trump doesn't get much of a lift from Republican-only vote: Even in their eyes, he's a bottom-five president.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    Dead last on the list of best presidents? I can live with that.

    These are the same "historians" that rank FDR highly. FDR put Americans in concentration camps.

    They also love Obama who signed a law passed by other socialist Democrats that forces Americans to buy insurance under threat of death.

    Bill Clinton is also listed highly. Only one of two presidents that were impeached by a body of Congress.

  • Tony||

    You're the guy at the Russian troll factory who shows up for unpaid overtime because you're just that enthusiastic about your job.

    "Get a vacation Boris. Is enough, he won!"

  • loveconstitution1789||

    You gave up this easily?

    Gesh Tony. You are really not living up to the New Soviet Man.

  • Tony||

    Socialism really isn't Russia's bag anymore. Now it's mindless worship of a massively corrupt strongman. You'd do great there.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    Russia absolutely controls the means of production of many of its companies.

    Its not communism like when the USSR ran the show but you still get a monthly stipend from the KGB, I bet.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    Sorry not KGB. I meant: SVR RF and FSB.

  • Mock-star||

    "Socialism really isn't Russia's bag anymore. Now it's mindless worship of a massively corrupt strongman."

    So theyre still into socialism?

  • Rebel Scum||

    Dead last on the list of best presidents? I can live with that.

    #Me too. Typically it's the ones that were most destructive to individual liberty and that generally expanded the size and scope of the presidency and federal government that are ranked highest. So the rankings are bunk.

  • Rhywun||

    LOL I hope that bit of fluff is enough to tide you over for the rest of the day.

  • Citizen X - #6||

    "Presidential historians" almost invariably rank presidents higher if they do a lot of big, important stuff like fighting wars, expanding or inventing social programs, etc. You'll have to excuse any libertarian who can't take a list seriously that puts FDR and LBJ in the top ten.

  • Tony||

    Presidents who fight wars and win. Ranks Trump is determined not to join. I hope you're brushing up on your Russian.

  • Ecoli||

    ISIS would probably agree with you, Tony, if they still existed.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    What are they called now, ISIL? Bad hombres? Afghan freedom fighters? Radical Islamists? Suicide bombers?

    Don't kid yourself that they are gone. No one could be that naive (maybe some Trumptards are)

  • loveconstitution1789||

    Butt. Remember when Boosh and Obama spent years trying to control ISIS? Trump has done it in about 13 months.

    Of course ISIS is not gone. Booosh, Obama and Hillary are still around, so ISIS will be too.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    You're naive. It's like your'e going back to Vegas to win all your lost money back.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    I have been told that socialism is the future. You can get all your investment back.

    Only a moron like you goes to Vegas without getting a comped room with casino cash to play at the tables.

  • Don't look at me.||

    Tony wants war? WTF?

  • loveconstitution1789||

    Tony wants to destroy America and what it stands for in any way possible.

  • Citizen X - #6||

    Tony is fine with any coercive action by the state, no matter how violent, so long as it is instituted by the Right People* for the Right Reasons*. Don't ever mistake him for a principled person.

    *people/reasons Tony happens to agree with

  • Tony||

    Serious people are calling the Russian interference the cyber equivalent of Pearl Harbor.

    You'd probably think something similar if the traitorous cunt not doing anything to respond to it had a (D) after his name.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    Lefties are calling it Pearl harbor because lefties are reactionary dumb dumbs who make up stuff that is not true.

  • Brian||

    Pearl Harbor?

    So much for "serious."

  • loveconstitution1789||

    These lefty morons would never admit that we are getting Pearl Harbored every day via the internet.

  • Rebel Scum||

    Serious people are calling the Russian interference the cyber equivalent of Pearl Harbor.

    This statement would be amusing if not so incredibly sad. Trolls flinging cyber-shit online is the same as a massive air assault on the US Pacific Fleet? Get a grip, T.

  • Brian||

    Because 13 Facebook trolls is the cyber equivalent of gutting the US Navy in a surprise attack as a declaration of full-scale, open warfare in the Pacific.

    Serious, serious people say such things.

  • Tony||

    And I suppose the really serious people are saying "We got our illiterate gelatinous rubber stamp for judicial appointments and tax cuts, so we don't care if Russia is trying to weaken America."

  • Brian||

    If 13 Russian trolls equals Pearl Harbor, then Donald Trump equals Eisenhower.

  • damikesc||

    Serious people are calling the Russian interference the cyber equivalent of Pearl Harbor.

    Given that Obama FUNDED Netanyahu's rival and sent his staffers out there to help that guy lose --- these "serious people" are anything but.

    Tony, have you SEEN the "Russian propaganda". If that is all it took to derail Hillary, that is a pretty damning indictment of the hag, ain't it?

  • Tony||

    It's a damning indictment of stupid Americans.

  • MarkLastname||

    Haha, I needed a laugh, thanks.

  • DRM||

    So, if it was the equivalent of Pearl Harbor, why didn't Obama ask for a declaration of war? Why did that traitorous cunt with a (D) after his name not do anything commensurate with a Pearl Harbor level of seriousness? When do we hang him and his whole administration for treason in sitting by while the Russians gave the country to Trump?

  • Tony||

    Obama certainly didn't do enough. Ask me what one of my top criticisms of Obama is and I'll say that he was way too fucking cautious and concerned with walking the political tightrope. Understandable what with the black thing, but he could have gotten away with a lot more if he showed a little testosterone. Republicans are bullies and you have to treat them as such.

  • Citizen X - #6||

    I was unaware that LBJ won either the Vietnam War OR the War on Poverty, but leaving that aside, this is a poorly-reasoned comment even by your incredibly low standards.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    I think you have some fairly valid criticism but the results wouldn't change much other than moving Coolidge and Jimmy Carter up the list quite a bit.

    Remember, Carter was easily the most libertarian POTUS of modern times with his massive deregulation results (Which are real and can be named - unlike the fake ones of the Orange Shitgibbon).

    Eisenhower is already top ten, btw.

  • Citizen X - #6||

    My Top Ten, graded on a steep curve:

    1. Coolidge/Cleveland (tie)
    2. Jefferson
    3-10: [intentionally left blank]

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    Cleveland? Sure, but it was easy to be a libertarian in the 19th Century. Jefferson was great of course but had an easy time due his early placement.

    It is notable you won't give Carter any respect (due to you being a TEAM RED! partisan).

    Carter created no social programs, did not raise taxes, started no wars, and was the Deregulation POTUS. He even made public service strikes illegal.

    You would deserve a modicum of respect had you placed Carter #3 behind Jefferson.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    You would like a racist southern Democrat.

    Carter was weak in foreign affairs. He made the USA look like pussies and supported various tyrannical regimes, like the Shah of Iran. Carter then let the US hostages languish in the custody of Iranian religious socialists.

    Carter also campaigned as an outsider and unlike Trump only made government consist of more TOP MEN. Carter was a method guy. He needed to be doing something and when your president this tends to be making life worse for Americans.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    Carter was weak in foreign affairs.

    You obviously don't know anything about Libertarianism and the NAP. Just shut the fuck up and go back to Bratfart with your conservative look-alikes.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    Foreign affairs does not have to include nation building like Boosh and Obama did.

    Foreign affairs can also include telling Iran to give our American hostages back or the USA will waste you. Sometimes just being nice to tyrannical regimes gets things done.

    It why you don't have the first clue about what you are talking about.

    You want Libertarians to be pussies like you rather than standing up for themselves against tyranny of the Nanny-State or tyrannies like Iran.

  • Citizen X - #6||

    My bad, i didn't realize your dumb little game here was so important to determine my worth as a human being. Next time i'm feeling disrespected, i'll know it was deserved, because a mentally ill person on the internet didn't think i took a pointless presidential ranking exercise seriously enough.

    For the record, i think Carter was okay, and when he shuffles off to the great Habitat build in the sky i will pour out a legal craft beer in his memory.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    And peanuts?

    Beer and peanuts....mmmmm.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    because a mentally ill person on the internet

    Hilarious. You're perturbed because you know I am right about Carter. That's okay.

    At least you know what Libertarianism is - unlike that moron 'LoveCons' who prefers a US strongman starting wars and bullying other countries over someone like Carter.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    Carter invaded a country we did not have troops in - Iran.

    What country has Trump ordered the USA to invade that didn't have already have US troops in? Afghanistan? Iraq? Syria? Yemen?

    Butt, you will lose every time. You are bringing a wooden stick to a tank battle.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    Shut up, moron. All you do is lie.

    (from now on "shut up, moron" will be my only reply to you)

    You really gave up on this one. You cannot even refute what I said.

    You seem super upset for snowflake.

  • Citizen X - #6||

    Shreek, i've been pointing out that you're obviously mentally ill since at least 2009.

  • MarkLastname||

    Carter is nowhere near the top; he was far better Johnson and Nixon, for whatever that's worth.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    Nixon is one of the worse just because he was the only president to resign. Besides, he probably would have been impeached anyway.

    Johnson and Clinton are bad too because they were actually impeached by Congress. These two presidents were so bad they were subjected to the worse thing another branch could do to them. The only thing worse would have been impeachment in both houses of Congress and removal from office, which has not happened yet.

  • Rebel Scum||

    1. Coolidge/Cleveland (tie)
    2. Jefferson
    3-10: [intentionally left blank]

    1. Jefferson
    2. Madison
    3. Coolidge
    4. Jackson
    5. Van Buren

  • loveconstitution1789||

    Yes, Carter was a Piece Of Shit (POS).

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    Shut up, you hyper-partisan moron. You're too stupid to debate anyone here.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    See above Butt. You will lose every time. You bring sticks to tank battles.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    Yeah Buttolini.

    Get those trains running on time.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    Butt: Shut up, moron. All you do is lie.

  • Rhywun||

    Exercises in ranking Top. Men. are pretty grotesque to begin with. The fact that they're all biased doesn't help.

  • Jerryskids||

    Or a list that puts WH Harrison at the bottom - WH did nothing beyond catching pneumonia at his inauguration and laying down in bed and dying. "Doing nothing" should be at least a wash between doing good things and doing bad things, a low ranking for doing nothing betrays a bias in favor of doing something, anything. Are all Presidents somehow automatically better than WH simply because they did something - however bad - rather than nothing? Bullshit. Doing nothing, I'd argue, is a better long-term strategy than doing something. I'd also argue that James Madison would agree with me since he deliberately wrote the Constitution in such a way that it made it difficult for the government to do anything, specifically on the grounds that human beings given power are more apt to do bad things than good things and if the price of a hamstrung government is that they lack the power to do good things, the lack of the power to do bad things makes it a good tradeoff.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    Agree, with the nitpick that WH Harrison is not at the absolute bottom - The Dotard is.

  • MarkLastname||

    Explain why mean tweets and cutting taxes are worse than FDr's concentration camps?

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    Personally, I would put Dumbya at the bottom.

  • Sevo||

    "Dumbya"

    Are you Mikey's sock? Or is he yours?

  • Sevo||

    And I see you seem to be stumped regarding Mark's question.
    Why is that?

  • Don't look at me.||

    I always frame my options based on polls and surveys. It's so much easier.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    Your comment had 100% of my support.

  • damikesc||

    History is a year old?

    Sounds like a survey of some rock solid great historians.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    Inconvenient history for lefties is the eternal problem.

    Imagine how many less socialists there would be if they correctly taught in school how the Nazis were socialists. That the socialists of China and Russia killed millions more people than Hitler while receiving Ford trucks from the USA.

  • MarkLastname||

    I'd say he's definitely below the median, but this is rather absurd. "Presidential historians" give FDR a pass for locking Japanese people in camps and burning crops while the country is starving; Johnson gets a pass for the Vietnam War and starting stagflation, and showing his dick to anyone he could, but omg Trump's twitter account!!!?

  • Ecoli||

    How would Trump be rated in terms of campaigning for the presidency?

    How would Trump be rated in terms of understanding the mindset of the country during the 2016 election cycle?

    How would Trump be rated in terms of understanding the electoral college?

    He is a very stable genius.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    Top Con Man!

  • Don't look at me.||

    Winning!

  • loveconstitution1789||

    We all know Obama left office and cannot hurt anyone anymore.

  • damikesc||

    Obama is top 10 in that listing.

    Crap US economy for 8 years.
    Sat back while Iran slaughtered protestors.
    Killed the whole movement of disarmament dead by turning on Libya after they did so.
    Funded Iran heavily.
    Used IRS to attack opponents.
    Spied on reporters.
    Spied on their families, too.
    Armed Mexican drug cartels without informing Mexico of this.

    Top 10? Yeah.

  • loveconstitution1789||

    You forgot signed unconstitutional ObamaCare into law.
    Unconstitutionally spied on Trump and his campaign.
    Added almost $9.3 Trillion to the national debt in 8 years.

    I could go on for days.

  • Jerryskids||

    Yet there's no question that Obama was the greatest African-American* president we've ever had so that alone should put him in the top 12.5%.

    *The quibble isn't over the "American" part, it's that the guy did have a white mother so he's just as much white as black.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    Alll lies.

    You are as fucking retarded as 'LoveCons' is.

  • loveconstitution1789||

  • Sevo||

    I got a kid down the block. Does better than the Russkis did and works for dope money...

  • Jerryskids||

    There's a guy on CNN pointing out that when he was a kid they never had to have mass shooter drills at school so therefore it's obvious we need more gun control laws. Never mind the fact that when he was a kid they didn't have the gun control laws we have now so it might be more logical to argue that we need to get rid of gun control laws. And never mind the fact that you're speaking on CNN, something else you didn't have as a kid, and CNN not 5 minutes earlier was running yet another clip of the shooter's court appearance, a shooter that CNN itself has helped make for at least a few hours a more famous celebrity than Donald Trump. You don't think maybe instant worldwide notoriety might have something to do with this spate of shootings, you dumb fuck?

  • Tony||

    Repeal the first amendment to save the second!
