Christie Signs NJ Immigrant Tuition Bill
Will lower costs for state colleges
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has signed a bill to lower costs at New Jersey colleges for students who are in the United States illegally.
The Republican signed the bill in private Friday, a day after he announced a compromise had been reached on the measure. His office says he will hold a ceremonial signing later.
The deal with lawmakers Thursday eliminated a provision that would have made the students also eligible for state financial aid. Christie argues that that would have been costly and could have made New Jersey a magnet for foreign-born students.
