DC Statehood Snubbed by DNC

The District will not have its state for statehood heard

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — While they buried a call for statehood-type rights for the District of Columbia in their platform, Democrats will not have advocates speak about the issue from the podium during their three-day convention in Charlotte, the city's representative to Congress said on Tuesday.

"Failing to give the District of Columbia a voice at the convention this year, in particular, is a bitter pill to swallow," said Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, who will be speaking Tuesday night, though her remarks are restricted to her role as a female member of Congress.
