AMR Corp. and US Airways Group Inc. have reached a settlement with the U.S. Justice Department over their planned merger to create the world's largest airline.

The settlement requires US Airways and AMR's American Airlines to divest slots, gates and ground facilities at key airports around the country, the Justice Department said Tuesday.

AMR shares rose 27% to $12.13 in over-the-counter trading late Tuesday morning, while US Airways shares gained 3.44% to $24.07 before trading was halted.
