Brickbat: Sink or Swim

Parents in Vancouver, Canada, are frustrated because city rules block them from teaching their kids how to swim during public swim times. They say lifeguards prevented them from giving their children "unsanctioned swimming lessons" and must leave instruction to city programs, even though spots in those lessons are very limited. Parents argue this policy makes it harder for children to learn basic water safety skills, especially since many families can't get into official classes. They also point out that nearby communities, like North Vancouver, allow parents to work with their kids during public swims, making Vancouver's restriction seem unfair and inconsistent.

Vancouver drowning in officiousness.
It takes a village to drown a baby in a public pool.
I've got a sinking feeling that they're just going to keep floating these awful policies until everyone asphyxiates.
Only the EXPERTS can do shit like teaching kids to swim!!!
Pretty soon, only proctologists will be allowed to scratch your butt for ye... For an EXPERT price, of course... NO self-butt-scratching swill be allowed!!!! There are BUTT-LOADS of delicunt tissues down there, you incompetent fools!!!
(Doctors and the AMA are SNOT allowed to read my post here!!! They might get ideas!!!)
The kids don't need to learn to swim from the government only necessarily as much as they need to learn reliance on government.
Why aren't these lifeguards being told to fuck themselves? Where are the MEN?
You did notice this is in Canada, right?
"I'm a lumberjack, and I'm okay ...."
Men to step up but just people in general too.
Between lakes and rivers and water parks and private pools and public pools somehow Vancouver makes "Public pool" sound like "Public library".
Where are the teens making out behind the pump house? Untying each other's swimsuit tops or pantsing each other in front of people? Where are the tweens throwing stuff at each other while doing flips off the side? Where are the older kids running around on the pool deck to give the lifeguards something *real* to do? Where is the public to beat the aspiring motivation out of these sub-meter-maid public servants?
Wouldn't want them escaping their communist utopia by swimming down the coast.

Describes my wild, random, and often unsupervised "free range" childhood; also explored and hung out along a bayou with my friends. Government is the very definition of mission creep.
A+ on upholding the brickbat article photo rule, Chuck.
