Brickbat: Closing Time

Andrew Gwynne, Britain's minister of public health, said the government is considering "tightening up the hours of operation" of bars and pubs. Gwynne said limiting pub hours could reduce both excess drinking and antisocial behavior. Prime Minister Keir Starmer has already announced the government is looking at banning smoking in pub gardens. Both men said the National Health Service budget is being eaten up by preventive diseases, and these rules are aimed at improving public health.

Gwynne said limiting pub hours could reduce both excess drinking and antisocial behavior.
It's sad that Limey pub goers refuse to assimilate into British society innit.
Limiting government would reduce much more antisocial behavior, and fewer people would be driven to excessive drinking.
Seems to me that the NHS budget is being eaten up by the 10’s of thousands of illegals pouring into the country
You mean illegal babies invading through moist birth canals... AKA "wet-bodies"... Who penetrate boundaries WITHOUT permission? Did newborn YOU and YOUR MomDad get a "birthing permit", ye so-called "citizen"?
Papers Please, "Citizen"!?!?!?

sarcasmic
True. The milk belongs to someone with papers.
Note to self – if you ever win that seven figure lawsuit against Trump due to being triggered by mean tweets, remove Britain from the list of possible places to visit.

"The simplest way to explain the progressive worldview is this. Fundamentally, it holds that all citizens, regardless of age, are small, helpless, not very bright children – and that the role of the state, therefore, is to act as their parents.
Once that’s understood, all else becomes clear. Such as the fascinating story about NHS bosses in North Wales demanding that a proposed chip shop be required to sell “a good selection” of fresh fruit and vegetables.
Answering this question is not easy. Unless, that is, you’re the sort of person who believes that citizens are all helpless children, and that the state should act as their parents. Which, along with deciding what’s best for them, and generally bossing them around, means making sure they eat their greens. All for their own good.
Still, since these NHS bosses are so determined to improve the Welsh diet, I have a suggestion for them. To ensure their advice is heeded, they should each stand inside a takeaway late on Friday nights – and, whenever a large, drunk, hungry Welshman staggers in to ask for chips, order the staff to serve him steamed broccoli, instead.
Why not mandate that pubs only serve herbal tea and patrons can only do yoga in the pub gardens? The childless cat ladies demand it!
Childless cat ladies? Then White Claw and bag-in-box better be available.
Yep, no better way to reduce "antisocial behavior" than taking away drinking and smoking.
I can see the pubs of the future, purple haired citizens calmly drinking herbal tea and discussing Marx and Lenin, while the burial details toil into the night.
The pubs of the future-purple haired non-binary and trans people drinking water and discussing which meds they are on.
Because, of course, if the pubs close, people are absolutely not going to drink at home.
Or drink faster.
Both men said the National Health Service budget is being eaten up by preventive diseases, and these rules are aimed at improving public health.
Shouldn't the budget still be flush with money after the bars and pubs were closed from 2020-2022?
I mean, with all the dead people not consuming healthcare, you'd think there would still be some left over.
It's almost like these public health servants are overtly lying... again.
Apparently, waste and corruption do not enter into this equation.
More than waste and corruption, the inevitable consequence of bureaucracy: inefficiency.
. . . is being eaten up by preventive diseases . . .
Preventable?
The British don’t speak English.
preventive of sustaining vertical & ventilating British population
So replacing the population with mohammedan jihadists has done nothing to lessen antisocial shooting--strike that--stabbing sprees?
Mike Bloomberg so fucking jelly he's not British
We could also reduce global warming if you could get these Brit ministers to shut their CO2 emitting yap holes...
It is a cautionary tale. Once health care is paid for by the government, then the government will use the excuse of cutting health care costs to control a myriad of personal behavior and choices. And it won't actually be about making people healthier to, you know, reduce health care costs. It will entirely be about control.
