Secretive Service
Plus: Harris clinching nomination, Trump appealing N.Y. civil fraud judgment, and more...

Secret Service had one job: A week and a half ago, an assassin attempted to shoot former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and missed his head by a few millimeters, grazing his ear. Yesterday, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle appeared before the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability to answer for the agency's shocking ineptitude.
"The director declined to answer questions about how the security perimeter was drawn for the rally, whether law enforcement swept the roof in advance or how many agents were assigned to the event, saying a review of the breakdown is ongoing," reports The Wall Street Journal. "Cheatle acknowledged that [gunman Thomas Matthew] Crooks was identified as suspicious, with a range finder—which resembles binoculars that hunters use to measure distance to a target—and backpack, more than an hour before he opened fire at Trump's rally. Pressed by lawmakers, she acknowledged that Secret Service agents had received multiple notifications of a person acting suspiciously."
But Cheatle could not answer questions like "Did the Secret Service have an agent on top of that roof?" and "Why was the roof left open?" choosing instead to deflect and to point to a report that will be issued some 60 days from now. There was very little gleaned from the hearing, attracting bipartisan scorn and leading Rep. Nancy Mace (R–S.C.) to call Cheatle "full of shit" at one point. "We haven't gotten a single document or piece of information or data from you or your agency in [relation] to the rally, that we have asked you for," added Mace.
At times, lawmakers pressed for answers as to how the agency missed something so major, failing to communicate with local law enforcement and failing to realize that the reported suspicious person was in fact a massive threat. Team Trump had apparently even asked the Secret Service for more security leading up to the rally, a request the agency denied.
Sixty days until a report, 100 days until an election: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D–N.Y.) was surprisingly sharp throughout: With elections happening in 100 days, "the notion of a report coming out in 60 days, when the threat environment is so high in the United States, irrespective of party, is not acceptable," she argued. It's been 10 days since the assassination attempt, she noted. A report in 60 days' time simply doesn't cut it.
At other times, lawmakers went full culture war, with Rep. Glenn Grothman (R–Wis.) at one point asking Cheatle: "Could you elaborate why you want one-third of the Secret Service to be women?" Cheatle denied that she wanted this, but Grothman appears to have done his homework.
"I'm very conscious as I sit in this chair now, of making sure that we need to attract diverse candidates and ensure that we are developing and giving opportunities to everybody in our workforce, and particularly women," Cheatle said in a television interview with CBS News in 2023. She "aims to have 30% female recruits by 2030," the news organization reported at the time.
Pretty much all of the federal law enforcement agencies—the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Agency, the U.S. Capitol Police, and the U.S. Marshals Service—have signed onto a similar pledge, which aims to up the number of women in police recruit classes by 2030.
Of course, having lady cops, or aspiring to have lady cops, isn't necessarily the reason for the Secret Service's failures. That's a cheap Republican talking point that keeps being trotted out these days: Every time there's an issue with airplane mechanics, for example, a chorus of people says Boeing is obsessed with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hiring over safety. Another member of Congress, Tim Burchett (R–Tenn.), told Cheatle (a woman): "You are a DEI horror story."
The fixation on DEI is a little stupid but also not totally wrong. Focusing on meeting arbitrary diversity quotas versus hiring based on merit is a foolish way to run an organization. You will not have the best, most suitable people on the job; you will water down the overall quality and bear the consequences. "They're replenishing the force with agents that would have never made it in my day," a former Secret Service agent told National Review.
In the absence of other explanations and concrete information as to how the Secret Service failed to such a degree, of course grandstanding politicians fill the void with DEI critiques. This is unsurprising. Perhaps Cheatle should take seriously their quest for answers, and appreciate the urgency with which they speak.
Kamala Harris will probably clinch the nomination: Following President Joe Biden's announcement that he will be stepping aside and suspending his reelection campaign, Democrats have eschewed an open convention in favor of essentially coronating Vice President Kamala Harris as their nominee.
No other Democrats have risen up to challenge her, and Harris has, as of last night, secured pledges of support from 2,668 delegates, clearing the 1,976-delegate threshold, which means she will be able to formally secure the nomination in the first round of voting in early August.
"Hear me when I say, I know Donald Trump's type," said Harris, visiting her new campaign headquarters and making a speech to staffers about how she, as a former prosecutor, knows how to go after "fraudsters" and "predators."
Harris initially garnered support from Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was initially a holdout, possibly leaving room for the possibility of an open and competitive nominating process. But yesterday, Pelosi threw an endorsement Harris' way as well, as did six major Democratic governors: Illinois' J.B. Pritzker, Michigan's Gretchen Whitmer, Maryland's Wes Moore, Minnesota's Tim Walz, Kentucky's Andy Beshear, and Wisconsin's Tony Evers.
Truth be told, Democrats would probably have been better off anticipating Biden's age becoming a liability and taking their primary process more seriously earlier in the race. Now, they would probably also be better served by opening the nominating process up to more candidates, and holding a late-in-the-game miniature primary in order to field the best possible Trump challenger. They could attempt to do what used to be historically quite common (from 1831 to 1968, in fact): Pick a nominee at the actual convention, that place where you're kind of supposed to be doing that anyways.
Scenes from New York: "Lawyers for Donald J. Trump filed an appeal on Monday evening seeking to dismiss or drastically reduce the $454 million judgment levied against him this year in a New York civil fraud case, the latest maneuver in the former president's multiple legal battles," reports The New York Times.

- OpenResearch, a nonprofit research lab funded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, "found that when it gave some of the poorest Americans $1,000 a month for three years with no strings attached, they put much of the money toward basic needs such as food, housing, and transportation," reports Wired. "But what amounted to $36,000 wasn't enough to significantly improve their physical well-being or long-term financial health, researchers concluded." Some allege that news organizations are covering the universal basic income study results poorly, though, colored by their own biases:
Consensus among academics is that results of the OpenResearch UBI study were between mixed and disappointing. Yet most articles in the popular press (Forbes, Bloomberg, Vox, NPR, Quartz) characterize the results in a positive tone and ignore or bury the null/negative results.…

Secret Service had one job...
That job? REPRESENTATION
there's one job, and then there's one job ...
Either their job was to protect Trump, and they failed,
OR
their job was to allow the hit, and they failed at that too.
No wonder she had to resign.
She should have resigned BEFORE the congressional grilling.
In fact, she shouldn't have been allowed to resign. She should have been fired, immediately. The military term for it would be "loss of confidence in ability to command."
She fucked up, and there's no way she could ever unfuck that mess.
Yesterday, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle appeared before the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability to answer for the agency's shocking ineptitude.
Many of the questions directed at her were as embarrassing as her responses. CAN WE NOT JUST GET CLOSE TO SOMETHING RESEMBLING THE TRUTH?
"We demand more realistic and plausible bullshit!"
Is that too much to ask.
YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!
Do we need you on that wall?
...attracting bipartisan scorn and leading Rep. Nancy Mace (R–S.C.) to call Cheatle "full of shit" at one point.
That's how you properly grandstand without sounding like you're grandstanding.
Mace and AOC agreeing on something?
Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!
Hey, I've been giving AOC light praise the last couple of days. Whatever one can say about her, she's on point with this DNC coup that has taken place right under our noses.
I think she's realizing that nobody is worth much to them, and she could be the one the guards forget to protect or the one that resigns while out sick. We're dealing with some evil people, and as dumb as she is, she is realizing that you aren't going to beat them at their game.
I think she also realized that the old DNC establishment is still running the show, and have almost as much disdain (and use) for The Squad as they do for Trump.
Actually, Trump might be more useful to them.
I don't think it's a realization so much as an understanding that Pelosi doesn't have a hold on everyone's reins anymore,.so she's feeling confident enough to assert herself as a party leader now.
Nancy should have taken her out with her campaign manager when she had the chance. Too late now, bitch.
>>Mace and AOC agreeing on something?
two psychotic chicks intersecting on a matter of feeling unsafe is not so surprising
I guess I now see the utility of female congress reps. If a male rep said the same thing to Cheatle it would be nullified as sexist, and actually add to her social score.
When you are accusing a high-ranking federal employee of committing perjury in front of you, some level of grandstanding is to be expected. especially as her colleagues had already pulled out the contradictions, which proved beyond any reasonable doubt either deception or complete incompetence.
Aside from plain anger or staging for the cameras, it could be an attempt to rattle the agent into actually telling the truth.
Focusing on DEI is a “little” stupid, but not wrong, huh?
This reads like Robbie when he’s hedging for ENB and not on TV
I agree focusing on DEI is very stupid, just not in the way you do. It’s one of the worst ideas of this century
We apparently cannot debate this kind of radical Leftist policy, because the GOP is being mean or something.
If you let progressives define the game and the rules, then there is no way to play DEI fight club and win, unless you are more oppressed in sex, race, gender, body shape, colonial past, AND daddy issues.
DEI isn't radical. It's been a center left position for at least 35 years. They just added trannies to affirmative action.
It's a terrible policy, but when you let women vote they're going to give themselves special favors. The blacks and gays are just along for the ride.
Fuck off Buttplug, you pedo sack of shit.
Focusing on meeting arbitrary diversity quotas versus hiring based on merit is a foolish way to run an organization.
So confused. It is ok to point out DEI means you aren't hiring the most quailfied people, but if you blame DEI for inept people failing at their job you are fighting a silly culture war? Oh wait, I see it now. Boaf sidez!
Boaf sidez like a Mobius strip painted lefty red.
Speaking of which, what bozo decided to use red for right wing when red has been associated with Marxists for over a century?
Just those devious progressives at play. Like when Democrats were for slavery, then against it, and then for it again.
Bush was colored red in the 2000 election maps on TV.
They swapped them regularly before then.
Speaking of which, what bozo decided to use red for right wing when red has been associated with Marxists for over a century?
Peter Jennings.
Damn Kanukistanis.
They used to change up which party was red or blue on election maps. After 2000 "red state" and "blue state" became common usages and the colors stayed the same since then. I don't think anyone really planned which color which party would be, it just kind of happened.
Speaking of which, what bozo decided to use red for right wing when red has been associated with Marxists for over a century?
Still is everywhere else on the planet. In Australia, NZ, Canada, SA, the UK, and most of Europe, dark blue signifies the conservative parties.
American exceptionalism I guess.
See Zeb's reply above.
Don't war games use blue and red to code us and them?
I doubt most Democrats and media have military backgrounds, but they sure think of themselves as the good guys (and others as the enemy).
NBC News in 1984, they changed Ds from red to blue BECAUSE of the association with communists
"We haven't gotten a single document or piece of information or data from you or your agency in [relation] to the rally, that we have asked you for," added Mace.
No one of consequence will ever get the Navarro treatment.
Shrike and Jeff have their marching orders.

It’s time for us all to unite around Kamala Harris and beat Donald Trump. She is the best and most qualified candidate we have. Long live the American Dream! #Harris2024
Sarcasmic gets his.

She is the best and most qualified candidate we have.
Says a lot for the Democratic Party.
Where's Jackie? Is she here?
She is the best and most qualified candidate we have.
This is a factual statement.
Hey, Rick James. I had seen someone refer to you as the new handle for what had previously been Diane Reynolds (Paul). I was just curious if that's true. I hadn't seen him post in a while.
That is true. My old account was "shadow banned". I'm calling it "shadow banned" because that's how it feels. I can post comments under Diane Reynolds (Paul.) but the comments never show up. If I post the comment a second time, I get the notification that I posted a "duplicate comment" so...
I'm not 100% sure why, but I do have a theory, such as it is.
Yeah, that is strange. You'd think if any account would be banned or shadow banned, it would be all forms of the SPB2 account.
I wish I could say I posted kiddie porn or something, but nothing like that. It did happen right after I called out one of the writers by name and offered a sum of money for them to hold a debate- and made it clear I was serious.
Despite everything that can be said about her (lack of) likeability, qualifications, and actual accomplishments - this has proven that she is possibly the savviest political operator in the political establishment at the moment. She managed to pull off a clean coup at the top of the ticket as evidenced by the massive fundraising, delegate support, and lack of credible opposition.
She clearly knows where the levers (or other phallic object of your choice) of actual power are and how to pull them.
$1,000 a month seems like it's enough to relieve pressure from taking shit, dead end jobs. But not enough to improve your quality of life.
I'd be curious about the time/location of this experiment and whether there were opportunities for people to retrain, etc to actually "get ahead."
In libertopia there would be no welfare from the government. Unfortunately that ain't happening any time soon. If I had to choose which option was less bad, I'd go with UBI if it replaced all other welfare and government aid. But if we did move to that, it would only be a small amount of time before you'd hear the cries that the UBI isn't enough, and then the other welfare programs would be brought back, IN ADDITION TO the UBI.
What I think actually happens is that regardless of what form it takes, the welfare becomes a crutch for the recipients. It's not used as a hand up to become self sufficient. It usually just makes the recipient reliant on the funds long term. And then those individuals are reliant on politicians who promise more free stuff. This has become the MO for the Democratic Party, and it isn't an accident.
Unless the UBI covers rent for a nice place in a cool neighborhood, at least standard level groceries, dining and drinking out, weed, wifi, and women, it will never be enough. And no matter what the amount, the recommendation will be "more".
It’s almost impossible to end a program but very easy to start or restart a welfare program.
I have a 25 year old co-worker who constantly whines that it’s not fair that she has to work hard, much less work. She’s worked her “whole life” and thinks she should just be provided food, shelter, and money for entertainment. While this sentiment isn’t shared by all Zoomers, it’s unsettlingly not uncommon either.
She also whines that she doesn't have money and doesn't make enough, but also buys a new Iphone every year and rents a two bedroom apartment so she can have a spare bedroom in case any friends want to visit her.
She needs a year on a farm, in the army, or maybe even a commune.
She's massively overweight, so if she could stick it through, it would do her a great help. But I don't think she would last a day in the army or on a farm or commune.
Which is why it should never be a universal federal program but should instead be a local charity initiative that can react to actual individual circumstances according to the local value systems.
An extra $1k/mo would get me out of my car and home loans in around 7 years. Alternatively, even if I just threw that cash in short term high yield CDs I'd probably have enough invested to jump into a more lucrative side project I've been eyeing. Looking to have almost that much of extra cash flow now that the youngest is out of daycare.
It makes a difference to those who are already competent. It won't make a difference to people who don't know how to work hard, save, and invest. UBI fails on the basic premise that resources given for nothing aren't valued by those receiving them (especially when received from the faceless government.) Easy come, easy go. If I was single, that money would be enough for me to get by without worrying about a job. I'd probably do odd jobs just to curb boredom and get little luxuries, but it's enough that I could really do whatever I fucking want
Kamala Harris will probably clinch the nomination...
I hope in her acceptance speech she informs us all in the simplest possible terms what a nomination is.
There’s this country, America. It’s a big country, with lots of states
Can it be represented on a Venn diagram?
Obligatory xkcd.
https://xkcd.com/2962/
Makes me sad. I like that comic.
Yup, too bad.
I have to wonder if the continued leftist delusion by so many people is TDS, or some more substantial group retardation.
Don't be sad. He probably got paid a lot of money for that. Be happy for him.
I'm able to set aside an actor's politics and enjoy the movie, and I'll still be able to enjoy xkcd, even if he thinks that Harris might be a good President--he's entitled to his opinion.
I'm sad that it's the Venn diagrams that seems to have swayed him.
Man. I wish I could. It has destroyed enjoying a lot of tv/movies I used to like.
Failing on my part but I can't help it
Me too. And perhaps because Hollywood types have gotten more vocal about more extreme positions.
Don't get me wrong, I still skip things that are reported to be or appear to be overly woke as a pushed message (like new Disney MCU and Star Wars offerings), as I've no desire to sit and participate in a veritable Two Minutes Hate or Maoist Struggle Session, with me as the target.
But someone's current politics doesn't have to ruin their roles in non-political (or at least more subtle in their politics). E.g., I can still enjoy Ocean's 11 even though George Clooney prostitutes himself to raise money for the Democrat party. I can enjoy, say, "The American President" for what it is, even if there's a leftward bend to it.
To be fair, she would probably be just as good or bad a president as Biden, Nikki Haley, or any of the other folks preferred by the money. I don't think she has any actual vision or plans for policy other than to do what she is told to get and stay in whatever power she can.
I was going to say
-its actually a hopeful thing. That someone that can still produce something you feel is worthwhile even though they are mentally challenged in other areas.
How can she know what a nomination is? Is she a creditionaled political scientist?
She will be unburdened by it.
Democracy safe, once again.
I hope she explains how shitting on the concept of democracy is needed to save democracy.
Trust the experts.
Hear me when I say, I know Donald Trump's type...
And I'm sure Trump will inform us that Harris isn't it.
Guys who use their power and influence to get sleazy women to give sexual favors in exchange for favorable treatment. I bet she does.
Prior to 2020 democrats like Harris supported paper ballots. The Jimmy Carter voter commission called mail in ballots ripe for fraud for decades. But this was before the successful fortification.
https://justthenews.com/politics-policy/elections/harris-promoted-paper-ballots-2020-election-dems-now-push-back-election
Democrats also publicly denounced big money for decades.
I am old enough to remember the Diebold conspiracy theories in 2004.
Truth be told, Democrats would probably have been better off anticipating Biden's age becoming a liability and taking their primary process more seriously earlier in the race.
How could they possibly know he was feeble and infirm? IT CAME OUT OF NOWHERE.
Chris Coons said that hiding Joe wasn't politically relevant. I guess it's just a little white lie, but it's the only one they've told.
So... where's Joe Biden?
In bed, recovering from the virus he vowed to "shut down" 4 years ago.
He's fighting it so you don't have to. Show a little respect.
Apparently, Biden had a mini-stroke in Vegas. There was a medical emergency where they were going to rush him to the hospital, but elected to put him on AF1 instead.
So why is his doctor saying he's getting paxlovid?
The purpose of the paxlovid is to cause organ failure and death.
He ODed on bleach injections.
What about the horse paste?
This may explain the secrecy. Several people are reporting that Biden had a serious medical emergency while in Las Vegas last Wednesday, before he was said to have Covid. It’s starting to sound a lot like the plot of Dave.
The whole situation is shady as fuck. You have inconsistent news reports, 47 "intelligence officials" supposedly telling Biden he needed to drop out, his assistant putting up a post on Twitter, Harris becoming the presumptive nominee, and no actual video of Biden showing up the last few days.
It has all the makings of another coup by the glowies and their Democratic sponsors.
There’s a recent video of him climbing aboard AF1. In it, Biden seems to walk a bit more confidently than usual and seems to have no issue with the stairs. Some are claiming it is him; others are doubtful.
I don't know if any of you watched the excellent comedy "Death of Stalin", but how the Democrats are behaving right now reminds me of the bumbling politburo as each member scrambled for power in the wake of Stalin's stroke and then death.
Here's some very interesting rumor and hearsay that indicates that the movies' plot may be underway. Crazy if true: Exclusive: President Biden suffered an undisclosed medical emergency during his time in Las Vegas, police sources say
I get strong "overthrow of Gorbachev" vibes out of this idiocy from the Dems, personally.
I'm okay with it if it has the same outcome of destroying the Union of Soviet Socialist America that we have now, and replaces it with a country that rejects social liberalism wholesale.
They need some time to forge pardons for Hunter and the rest of the Biden crime family before they announce his passing.
I will say the amazingly quick pivot from Biden to Harris has given me 'communist party power struggle' vibes from the jump.
"Truth be told, Democrats would probably have been better off anticipating Biden's age becoming a liability"
But Liz, you haven't seen him behind closed doors when no cameras are rolling. He runs intellectual circles around 25-year-old Ivy League grads! MSNBC reports this is the best Biden ever!
#DontBelieveTheCheapFakes
"He runs intellectual circles around 25-year-old Ivy League grads! "
Big deal.
My pet rock can do that.
Truly damning with faint praise.
My pet rock also protects from covid.
I bought the pet rock that protects against covid, tiger attacks, and woolly mammoths. Works perfectly.
My pet rock has protected me from covid, tiger attacks, wooly mammoths, and climate change. You should have bought the Pit Bull model instead of the Labrador.
I thought about the upgrade the protects against dragons, but it didn't come in the color I wanted.
The BlackRocks are only for the extremely wealthy.
Yes, but how 'bout Fresh Fruit?
My pet rock protects you, your pet rock protects me.
Have you seen how stupid some of the new ivy league grads are? Vegetable Biden might actually be above average when compared to his inner circle.
Mayor Pete is a Rhodes Scholar and he spends more time lecturing about racist highways and being on paternity leave after pushing out twins than fixing actual problems.
So is Maddow, and she's sounding like a commie Alex Jones these days.
...and holding a late-in-the-game miniature primary in order to field the best possible Trump challenger.
You only do democracy if democracy isn't at stake.
Yeah this is one of the most frustrating parts of the administrative state - when someone fucks up, no one is really held accountable. If this were in the UK, not only would Cheatle be fired, but an MP Cabinet Secretary would be sacked. And no it's not because she's a girl, it's because she screwed up.
Poor DARK BRANDON, huh jeff? Never got the chance to finish his crusade against "fascism" because his own party strong-armed him into quitting. 🙁
Do you think Kamala Harris has what it takes to prevent "fascism"?
Poor Sandra, still bitter that an illiterate illegal immigrant stole her job and that's why she blames illegals and the Koch brothers for all the poor choices she made in her life, sleeping through high school and having no skills.
Poor chemjeffy, the price of his 55-gallon drum of Ben and Jerry’s doubled.
At least the bear didn't escape the trunk and eat his 55-gallon drum of Cherry Garcia.
What a sorry sorry life you've chosen.
I graduated in the top 1% of my HS class. Even if I had dropped out in 10th grade, though, a little common sense would tell me why Koch-funded operations push open borders so relentlessly.
But I get why you're resorting to just making stuff up. You have no strong comeback. The vapid nature of that "anti-fascist" essay you enthusiastically shared can no longer be denied.
(The screed that knocked jeff's socks off is here for anyone curious.)
The guy's a moron, as are most of his ilk.
He still butthurt over the shellacking he took for that 'it is ok to solicit minors for sex' position he took.
Or the migrants can rape without a single day in jail take. Cultural differences and all that.
Yea, the migrant may have been jacking off and watching rather than raping take kind of backfired on the fat, demented retard.
a little common sense would tell me why Koch-funded operations push open borders so relentlessly.
“common sense”, like you picking the worst possible, most cynical, bad faith reason why they support so-called “open borders”?
that is not “common sense”, that is you pushing a slanderous lie.
The vapid nature of that “anti-fascist” essay
Oh! You bash me endlessly about “the vapid nature” of that essay. Yet you cannot bring yourself to actually criticize the thesis of that iessay – which is, that there are real fascist undertones to the right-wing movements sweeping across the West. You spend all your time mocking me and mocking that essay while speaking nothing about that. I know you are not a Trump fan, what do you think when he calls fellow citizens “vermin”, refers to illegal immigrants as “poisoning the blood of the nation”, and even in his convention speech, ranted for 20 minutes about how they are rapists and murderers and, bizarrely, that they are cannibals a la Hannibal Lecter? Do you think that is a good idea? Do you think that mass dehumanization of a group of people is healthy for any pluralistic society? Are you going to condemn this, or are you just going to mock me some more?
You are part of the problem – you just sit on the sidelines and mock people you don’t like while refusing to take a stand on anything important.
Yes, stands like defending rapists because they only masturbated on their victim while their friends were actually rapey raping.
You, below:
The only reason people respond to you is because it’s fun baiting you.
so fuck off
The best part of this is he defends 0 jail for rapists while at the same time defends 5 years in jail for abortion protestors.
It is fucking amazing.
Democrats will definitely win the "amazing" category in 2024.
the worst possible, most cynical, bad faith reason why they support so-called “open borders”
What do you think? Increased immigration is actually *detrimental* to Charles Koch's net worth - and he pays writers to promote loose borders anyway? Purely for humanitarian reasons?
I know you are not a Trump fan ... You are part of the problem – you just sit on the sidelines and mock people you don’t like while refusing to take a stand on anything important.
Trump is an embarrassing buffoon. It's a bad joke that he became President once and - contrary to my assessment just a month ago - has a realistic chance of doing so again.
But that didn't happen in a vacuum. There had to be severe rot in the system.
The GOP had to be defective for someone like Trump to take it over.
Border enforcement had to be defective for a promise like "I'll be serious about the border" to be an innovative, maverick-y stance.
Progressive messaging had to be defective for "Our opponent is RACIST and an EXISTENTIAL THREAT and just like HITLER!" to be something millions of voters shrug off because they've heard it too many times.
So ......... yeah. I sit on the sidelines in the sense that I can't in good conscience vote for Trump. If he ends up winning, though? Well, an incumbent party that loses the White House to Trump doesn't deserve to remain in power.
The GOP had to be defective for someone like Trump to take it over.
This is what those mincing bootlickers Jonah Goldberg, Patrick Frey, and Nick Cataggio, and the idiots in their comment sections, are too fucking stupid to understand. Trump doesn’t take the party over if those people and the politicians they support are actually delivering what GOP voters want. It’s not an accident they supported Biden and are now switching to supporting Harris–because they’re jobbers who will genuflect to whomever is in power. In about 2 years or less, they'll be supporting child genital mutilation, er, "gender-affirming care," and calling anyone who opposes it a Nazi.
They have no principles other than tax cuts, open borders, and forever wars. What party wants such sclerotic, useless people running it?
Trump doesn’t take the party over if those people and the politicians they support are actually delivering what GOP voters want.
Damn those people like Goldberg. Why couldn't they just deliver to the GOP voters the bigotry and demagoguery that they demanded?
Probably because it would help out your lefty boos, you fat sack of shit. Your refugee child molester buddies should all be lined up against a wall and shot.
I’m really looking forward to the road war finally kicking off so I have the chance to end your pedo blubber self for good.
I love that you boiled down the many reasons people are pissed at the GOPe to bigotry like a good little collectivist.
Never change.
What do you think? Increased immigration is actually *detrimental* to Charles Koch’s net worth – and he pays writers to promote loose borders anyway? Purely for humanitarian reasons?
You do realize that there are people who actually take principled stands, right? Look at Ben & Jerry's (before they sold out, anyway). They promoted left-wing policies even ones that were detrimental to their own bottom line. They did it because they truly believed it. Why can't the Koch's do the same thing? But oh no, you have to invent the worst faith reason possible and project it on them.
So ……… yeah. I sit on the sidelines in the sense that I can’t in good conscience vote for Trump.
Oh no no, let me be very clear on the nature of my criticism here. I am not criticizing you for not voting for Trump or Biden/Harris. In fact I praise you for that. I am criticizing you for not taking a stand on anything and just preferring to sit on the sidelines and mock everyone who does take a stand. You won't create anything, you just tear down everyone who does. That is the problem.
You don't have any principles other than enabling pedophilia, which you call "liberty" to molest children.
Lol! Jeffys hero complex on full display! Yeah, take a stand, big guy!
You’re pathetic and weak.
Marxists, communists, and Nazis ARE like vermin (rats hide in the dark places carrying diseases and generally being a nuisance, much like these poisonous ideologies).
Lol, did that fat fuck really endorse that bullshit?
I honestly wish that "fascism" was as great a danger as these idiots are claiming. At least we'd be spared their hysterics.
And no it’s not because she’s a girl, it’s because she screwed up.
Ironic given the only reason she has the job and hasn't been sacked is beacuse she's a girl.
No, not the only. One of two. And I don't mean her lips. Or those lips either.
I thought she got the job by being Jill Biden's "special" friend?
She just resigned, at least.

Her position became untenable, just like agents on slopped roofs.
A slippery slope indeed!
she didnt screw up because she's a girl. She screwed up because she's a bolshevik

I'll stick with the Piggly Wiggly, thank you.
The 'far right' smear just doesn't work anymore...
At some point journalism will learn about diminishing returns.

"fascism"
"racism"
"genocide"
"ethnic cleansing"
"insurrection"
"threat to democracy"
far right is in good company
"literally Hitler"
What about alt-right? Did that ever catch on?
If everyone right of Marx is alt-right, we really aren't that alternative, are we?
Well, we are the alternative to the righteous, progressive left. And that is a huge threat to democracy.
Christian Nationalist? Or is it Christian Populist. I can't keep up.
"Christofascist" is gaining sway.
I saw Reason use “arch-conservative” at one point last week I think. I wasn’t even sure what to make of that.
Liz, DEI is a problem because when you focus on job irrelevancies in hiring like race and gender you necessarily sacrifice job necessities. If this wasn't true you'd have hit your goals without the concerted effort. None of the women in that detail were physically suited for their job and some of them appeared to not have the temperament or qualifications either but there they were for ideological reasons or to give the shooter an unobstructed LOS if you prefer.
Agreed.
Wolfe writes "The fixation on DEI is a little stupid but also not totally wrong. Focusing on meeting arbitrary diversity quotas versus hiring based on merit is a foolish way to run an organization. You will not have the best, most suitable people on the job; you will water down the overall quality and bear the consequences."
So I guess the" fixation" isn't stupid huh Liz?
"So I guess the” fixation” isn’t stupid huh Liz?"
Ya, its extremely anti-freedom and anti-individualism, two things that are essential to libertarianism. Id say the fixation (on getting rid of it) is necessary
But the wrong sorts of people are fixated on it!!!1!!
It's the only way the left knows how to get-away with their racist and sexist mentalities. Self-projection. Here's a book of racist and sexist policies that need to happen ... but, but, but ... U-Guys are racist and sexist not us! /s

Trump has the most protected legs since Tina Turner's were insured by Lloyd's of London.
Yet most articles in the popular press (Forbes, Bloomberg, Vox, NPR, Quartz) characterize the results in a positive tone and ignore or bury the null/negative results.…
Inflation hits corporate press in more ways than one.
I question her use of the adjective popular.
Harris becomes the first presidential candidate in history to never receive a single primary vote.
Lol no one tell Jesse how presidential nominations worked in the past
But don't be too hard on Jesse, the people he follows on Twitter are just as stupid as he is
cough cough caucus cough cough
Even excepting caucuses, for the first 100+ years of the republic, there weren't any primaries or caucuses at all.
Isn't the point obvious? That now, there are primaries, and she performed pretty abysmally in them?
Yes we all know the "point" you try to make when you post here
The only point BG has is on the top of his head.
Ideas!
Still waiting for you to have one.
You and Jeff are really flailing theast few weeks with neither of you being democrats. Did your periods sync up?
It has been a rough couple weeks for them, with their hero going down in flames and all. They are taking comfort in each others arms.
"our hero" lol, what, you mean Biden? The guy that both of us have routinely, over and over, said we don't support, didn't vote for, and won't vote for this year?
you all are such a bunch of tribalistic jerks, small-minded binary thinkers, "if they oppose Trump it must be because they support Biden" crap.
Sarc has to be on top right? Don't want him to suffocate.
you all are such a bunch of tribalistic jerks, small-minded binary thinkers, “if they oppose Trump it must be because they support Biden” crap.
That's what they actually believe. It makes sense though. They would never criticize Trump. Ever. Nor would they ever give credit to their enemy. That's why they never once credited Biden for continuing the economic policies they so viciously defended while Trump was president. Giving Biden credit for anything is the same as attacking Trump, even if they're crediting Biden for doing what Trump did. The cognitive dissonance would be painful. It's how their brains work. It's pathological tribal madness.
“our hero” lol, what, you mean Biden?
Yes.
The guy that both of us have routinely, over and over, said we don’t support, didn’t vote for, and won’t vote for this year?
You keep saying that, but then you'd spend long hours every day attacking anyone here who criticized him, and talking him up like he was the next buddha.
Plus, you are know by everyone as "Lying Jeffy".
talking him up like he was the next buddha.
lol the only person around here who remotely fits this description is SPB. this is a lie, you know it's a lie, because you are a master gaslighter
lol the only person around here who remotely fits this description is SPB. this is a lie, you know it’s a lie, because you are a master gaslighter
That's not true because he actually believes it. If he's attacking Biden and someone points out something wrong in what he said, then that person is defending Biden. Or if he's attacking Biden and someone doesn't join the dogpile, then that person is defending Biden. It's the only possible explanation. Or if he's defending Trump and someone points out something wrong in what he said, they're defending Biden. Or if they don't join in the praise then they're defending Biden. He actually believes that. As do the other tribalist retards. It's how their brains work.
"They would never criticize Trump. Ever."
Trump sounds like a used car salesman, and his New York braggadocio is one of the most annoying regional personality traits on the planet.
But what you do is far, far worse. Every stupid fucking lie and smear that the American Nazi party can create comes dribbling out of kerosene soaked mouth without any care to do anything other than troll and stan for the Democrats.
None of those arguments you and Lying Jeffy made about Trump is true and when everyone calls you out on you and Jeffy's DNC-bred smears, you shriek that your the only one that is 'boaf sides' and if anyone doubts you then they are "tRuMp cULtiSTs".
Case in point yesterday. You were rubbing your junk and squealing that Trump lied about Jaleel Stallings and when I said that he didn't, you and your obese partner in crime started shrieking that I was a liar. Then, when I pointed out what the article above had actually said, you and your fat Nazi pal ghosted.
Repeat that 1000x a week, every week, for the last seven years.
That’s not true because he actually believes it.
Well I am not so sure. When I was challenging ML on Trump's lie about tariffs during the debate, ML continued to claim that Trump didn't lie, and he went through literally 5 different arguments to try to 'prove' that Trump didn't lie. I don't think he believes any of them, he is just going to grasp at any barely-plausible argument as to why Trump didn't lie, and when it doesn't work, he will just try to push it by sheer force of will and gaslighting.
lol the only person around here who remotely fits this description is SPB. this is a lie, you know it’s a lie, because you are a master gaslighter
Jeffy, you and the retarded drunk honestly believe that your posts here just up and disappear when they are no longer convenient to your narrative, don't you?
You were rubbing your junk and squealing that Trump lied about Jaleel Stallings and when I said that he didn’t, you and your obese partner in crime started shrieking that I was a liar.
It's called lying by omission.
That’s not true because he actually believes it. If he’s attacking Biden and someone points out something wrong in what he said, then that person is defending Biden. Or if he’s attacking Biden and someone doesn’t join the dogpile, then that person is defending Biden.
This was probably a little more telling than you intended, Drunky.
"ell I am not so sure. When I was challenging ML on Trump’s lie about tariffs during the debate, ML continued to claim that Trump didn’t lie, and he went through literally 5 different arguments to try to ‘prove’ that Trump didn’t lie."
The only one who lied there was you, when you tried to pretend that foreign companies don't use import brokers to access the American market themselves.
You lied about the mechanism of tariffs.
You lied about foreign imports.
You lied about the border.
Lol. Watching the two biggest tribalists constantly team together while crying about others being tribalists is fucking funny.
It’s called lying by omission.
Exactly.
You lied by omitting the fact that Trump never said that. It was someone on an associated PAC. Even thought you claimed he did say that.
You lied by omitting the fact that Trump never said that. It was someone on an associated PAC. Even thought you claimed he did say that.
I was talking about the guy being acquitted and not shooting at cops on purpose. Those intentional lies by omission. What you’re talking about isn’t a lie by omission. It’s a misattribution, confusing something said in his name with something said by him directly. But I wouldn’t expect you to understand the difference, or care. You got caught and now you’re throwing shit to see what sticks. One thing you’ll never do is admit that you promoted a message that intentionally left out key facts in order to intentionally mislead the reader. Why? Because your brain actually believes that if you leave out key facts then you change reality. You're mental.
I don’t think he believes any of them, he is just going to grasp at any barely-plausible argument as to why Trump didn’t lie, and when it doesn’t work, he will just try to push it by sheer force of will and gaslighting.
I think he believes it. Just like Trump believes the nonsense that comes out of his own mouth. They could both pass a lie detector test saying contradictory sentences, believing each to be true in the moment.
“I was talking about the guy being acquitted and not shooting at cops on purpose.”
No you weren’t.
The article was about a Trump affiliated PAC account saying that, not Trump, but you and Jeff decided to claim that Trump said it. And when I called you a liar, you fucking doubled down.
Fucking clowntits.
“I don’t think he believes any of them, he is just going to grasp at any barely-plausible argument as to why Trump didn’t lie, and when it doesn’t work, he will just try to push it by sheer force of will and gaslighting.
I think he believes it. Just like Trump believes the nonsense that comes out of his own mouth. They could both pass a lie detector test saying contradictory sentences, believing each to be true in the moment.”
You two were both lying your asses of in the thread by attributing the comment to Trump, and the article right above your posts proved you were lying, and yet you two retards think you can blame me for lying.
This shit wouldn’t even fly with preschoolers. Sarc is a drunk so brain damage is expected, but what’s your excuse Lying Jeffy?
...writing off the fact that the norm is currently to actually have primaries, and the democrats just did what amounts to a coronation/anointment of perhaps one of the least popular candidates that voters already rejected hands down. The party of democracy seems to have a really bad record with allowing their voters to have a say, weird
But hey, worked when the DNC rigged the game for hillary right?
On the plus side, we get to re-use "IT WAS HER TURN!" when the inevitable outcomes happens
Does Jesse swoon when you white knight for him? I bet he does.
Yup gotta circle the wagons. No enemies to the right!
you reliably show up to shill for anyone the braindead left puts forward. Please, spare me
lol hilariously false.
I don't automatically rush to sarcasmic's or SPB's or SRG2's defense whenever you all decide to dogpile on them. By contrast, you all routinely defend each other *even when they are wrong*, as in this case with Jesse's absurd statement about "no candidate ever before Harris never received any primary votes".
You and the other right-wing crowd around here are tribal, defensive and insecure.
The jeff and sarc show is so stupid that it can't be made up. Bareback white-knighting each other so much that half of comments are just jeff and sarc circle jerks.
It's hilarious, in a sad, pathetic way.
It is funny seeing either sarc or jeff discussing "white knighting" for others.
Sarc is known for his amazing lack of self-awareness, and Jeffy just likes to fling his own poop.
This is peak hilarity.
I'm just enjoying the show as you and Jeff are too retarded to see how many primary votes she got in 2020.
You both are such retarded leftists you failed to see the actual reality. Lol.
I love how you use her 2020 primary results as a supposedly reliable proxy for how people view her in 2024.
"Look at how many votes Mitt Romney got in 2012, that is why he was so popular among Republicans in 2016"
Harris has done literally nothing since then, so there is no reason for her "id vote for them" metric to increase.
I am sure the strellar job she is doing as VP has only improved her standing among the electorate.
Can you explain how she is viewed and what was done to change anything?
Do word salads impress you?
How about sucking at every job given to her by the President?
They're already recycling "I'm With Her" too.
"the people he follows on Twitter are just as stupid as he is"
Remember when you were "doxxed" and the people you follow on twitter were shown?
Poor BG, he comes here to fling poo on an anonymous online forum, because that is the only way he can get any attention in his sad pathetic life
Wait, aren't you on the same anonymous online forum?
Lol
Indeed.
What a sorry sorry life you follow.
You just validated him by giving him attention. Just ignore him. I haven't responded to the twit since he told me I cared about what he had to say, and I told I'm I'd show him exactly how much I care.
Yeah BG is just an attention seeking troll, and a not even particularly good or interesting one.
Got your attention, didn't it?
Such a sorry sorry life. Wanting attention, getting it, complaining about getting it, getting more. The only reason people respond to you is because it's fun baiting you. No one actually cares about your response, but it's fun pushing your buttons.
You just validated him by giving him attention. Just ignore him.
Yeah BG is just an attention seeking troll, and a not even particularly good or interesting one.
This is rich coming from the website's second biggest shitposter and its premier fifty-center.
How to give someone attention without giving them attention.
Next you'll tell everyone you've muted him.
We know he doesn't mute. He responded 2 days ago.
You responded to me two days ago retard lol.
Just more evidence about you being a pathalogical liar. It is amazing.
Remonder. Jeff retweets people like Sulu and Katie Hill. No. He doesn’t criticize them, he retweets them without comment. Pushing their views.
https://x.com/chemjeff
So his statement was factually correct, seeing as we didn’t have primaries for like 100 years, but you decided to shit on his post anyways?
At least since there have been primary elections.
So the democrats have replaced nomination with coronation.
14 million voters against a secret cabal in a smoke filled room.
Victory to the cabal.
Remember, remember, the 5th of November.
So the democrats have replaced nomination with coronation.
What was their 2020 primary, chopped liver?
2016 was not appreciably different.
Russians!
AOC is concerned that someone might take a shot at Harris. Given that someone was even able to take one at Trump, she's right to be angry.
She is still shaking from that time she literally died in January.
The 'far right' smear just doesn't work anymore," argues journalist Melissa Chen in a media criticism post on X.
There will never be a point low enough to stop hating the press.
They will continue to deserve it.
isn't necessarily the reason for the Secret Service's failures.
Yes it is you retarded cunt. In order to achieve this the Ss lowered the standards for chicks.
I remember, as a kid babysitting the neighbor kids, taking them down to a fire station and talking with the fire fighters. Of course the neighbor kids wanted to be fire fighters.
It's like kids wanting to be Superman; you don't push them off the roof. Or telling the kids in your care that they want to be the opposite sex; you don't rush them through genital mutilation surgery before their parents find out.
Just because some short dumpy uncoordinated woman wants to be a bodyguard doesn't mean you hire them.
I think there are plenty of women who can be productive as secret service agents. But a five food woman isn't a logical human shield for a six foot four man.
I always say then keep the physical standards the same for the women as for the men. If there is a point to why a good male agent needs to pass a physical fitness test, those reasons don't go away just because the agent is female.
I saw it in the Army all the time. Lowered APFT standards for women. The one that really got me was having a female NCO constantly getting on all of the male soldiers about not having their hair exactly to code. This part is fine, as they should, but she would have this massive bun of hair that affected her ability to wear her patrol cap or even her kevlar properly. There is a reason why you need short hair in the Army, but somehow having hair down to your waist put up in a monstrosity of a bun makes unnecessary wearing your equipment safely and effectively.
"Hear me when I say, I know Donald Trump's type," said Harris, visiting her new campaign headquarters and making a speech to staffers about how she, as a former prosecutor, knows how to go after "fraudsters" and "predators."
"Just look at how many young black men I put in prison." Somebody needs to post a body count.
"Somebody needs to post a body count."
Whether its laying down the law on black men, or letting them lay it down on her, the body count is high regardless.
And both have led to failing upward for her
'Of course, having lady cops, or aspiring to have lady cops, isn't necessarily the reason for the Secret Service's failures. That's a cheap Republican talking point that keeps being trotted out these days: Every time there's an issue with airplane mechanics, for example, a chorus of people says Boeing is obsessed with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hiring over safety.'
Nope.
If you want to complicate operations and make them more expensive--and political--by including DEI goals, fine. If you compromise performance standards in order to do so, then fuck you.
BTW, maybe lady cops, or at least SS protection agents, have to be hired in pairs, so one can get on the shoulders of the other, and form a human shield as tall as the subject.
"The 'far right' smear just doesn't work anymore,"
Except in Germany/France where they still remember Nazis.
And where we remember you.

what do you mean remember? They are still marching in the streets throughout the EU today, saying "gas the jews" and "end israel", they just added green to the red/black/white flag.
Yes. The Euro-idiots invited the Islamo-fascists into their country. Better to have just your own fascists than a competing horde of them.
So youre just ignoring all your fellow Soros and WEF friendly non Muslims leading the charge?
'Truth be told, Democrats would probably have been better off anticipating Biden's age becoming a liability and taking their primary process more seriously earlier in the race. Now, they would probably also be better served by opening the nominating process up to more candidates, and holding a late-in-the-game miniature primary in order to field the best possible Trump challenger.'
The fuck? What kind of democracy includes more opportunities for more people to get involved? Why should our betters have to tolerate alternatives to their wise agenda?
You will never convince me otherwise that the USSS let Thomas Crooks take his shots 'accidentally on purpose'. And the FBI is investigating? They are covering up, is more like it.
None of these alphabet agencies can be trusted.
Did you see the contempt Cheatle had. The Congress is rightfully demanding answers and she sits there mindlessly mumbling about consulting a timeline (which she notably did not bring). Disgraceful. This is our Federal Government in action.
I watched the Tucker show on YT yesterday with Jack Posobiec as the guest. It was some of the best coverage of the assassination attempt and what information has come out to date. Posobiec goes through the timeline of everything. He and Tucker don't state definitively that it was an inside job, but that it's certainly a possibility based on what we do know.
I don't think it was an inside job, but I do think Mayorkas and Cheatle fucked with his detail enough in the hopes someone actually would take a shot at him.
Sounds almost like they’re Bond villains, hoping that someone / something else finishes off Bond so it looks like an accident.
I don’t know if it was an inside job, a let it happen on purpose (LIHOP), or just the most massive, colossal fuck up on multiple levels. The last one would surprise me the most, just because it requires failures at almost every stage.
Intentionally letting the protection unit for Trump get so watered down and undermanned/underprepared/underequipped (eg. no SS drones) would be a LIHOP in my opinion. I see that as saying, if someone can manage to take out Trump, our problem is solved.
LOL at this whole farce.
'"The 'far right' smear just doesn't work anymore," argues journalist Melissa Chen in a media criticism post on X.'
How long will the "total bullshit left" smear work?
I nominate “The buck stops here” as the most vacuous statement ever made by anyone in politics.
"The buck stops here!" she vehemently declared as she tossed the buck at an anonymous panel that pledged to catch it in a couple of months.
Truman ment it. Then he nuked Japan.
For Truman “The buck stops here” meant everything wrong with the Korean War was Macarthur’s fault.
For Carter it meant the Iran Hostages were ???'s fault.
For Janet Reno, it meant everything wrong with Waco was ???’s fault.
For Cheatle, it means it’s the sloped roof’s fault, or the local PD’s fault.
Many other examples throughout recent history.
That's up there with "You're doing a hell of a job, Brownie" or the Mission Accomplished press conference on an aircraft carrier.
I'm no fan of George W. Bush, but, as I understand it, the "Mission Accomplished" banner that was displayed on the ship in question was because the unit on the ship was returning after finishing their tour of duty. It was not a statement intended to convey that Operation Iraqi Freedom was a mission accomplished.
I don't know if all that is true, but it does make sense.
GHW Bush was the decider. Still don't know whose fault that was.
'OpenResearch, a nonprofit research lab funded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, "found that when it gave some of the poorest Americans $1,000 a month for three years with no strings attached, they put much of the money toward basic needs such as food, housing, and transportation," reports Wired. "But what amounted to $36,000 wasn't enough to significantly improve their physical well-being or long-term financial health, researchers concluded."'
Well then, obviously $1000 a month is not enough. How about $10,000?
"Well then, obviously $1000 a month is not enough. How about $10,000?"
This is absolutely the lesson they will take away, unfortunately.
Same with minimum wage. If $20 an hour works, why not $2000 an hour? everyone wins!
How about we raise the minimum wage to 10,000/hr and make them work one hour a month. It wouldn't be just another welfare scheme that way.
German parties reach deal to safeguard judiciary amid rise of far right
...
Germany’s neighbor, Poland, serves as a cautionary tale of how a takeover of the judiciary by far-right forces could look.
.....
Poland’s previously all-powerful populist Law and Justice (PiS) party, which ruled the country for eight years till December 2023, put the domestic judicial system under ever-tighter political control by, for example, refusing to seat elected judges and instead appointing judges seen as closer to the government.
....
To prevent such a scenario, the German proposal — which negotiators hope the Bundestag can approve by the end of this year — aims to enshrine in the constitution term limits for judges, an age limit for judges, and a limit on the total number of judges.
https://www.politico.eu/article/german-parties-reach-deal-safeguarding-judiciary-rise-afd-far-right/
Interesting how the far right has been successful in appointing lifetime judges who rule based on party affiliation rather than the law (even here in the USA)
Term limits are a good idea anyway.
And you should have reached your term limit years ago, but you keep hanging around.

No, but we all have a wood chipper warmed up.
I know where I'd scissor you.
Chemical castration is neater. And all the rage these days.
But it’s not as much fun. Giving SPB the whole Varys treatment might be worth it.

Interesting how the far right has been successful in appointing lifetime judges who rule based on party affiliation rather than the law (even here in the USA)
Is there a Dem-appointed Supreme Court Justice who reliably voted with the right wing justices in the last few decades? I know David Suiter was appointed by a Republican president only to become a reliable left wing justice. I've never seen it go the other way.
That's a cheap Republican talking point that keeps being trotted out these days: Every time there's an issue with airplane mechanics, for example, a chorus of people says Boeing is obsessed with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hiring over safety.
FFS. I think the DEI canard is overused, but this is even cheaper and lazier coverage. Those "issue(s) with airplane mechanics" are consistently happening with one particular airplane manufacturer. It's patently obvious that something is amiss with the manufacturer that they aren't putting manufacturing competence front and center. I can perfectly well accept that it isn't DEI. But, the passive tense evasion here is risible. Much the same could be said of the Secret Service. There were a train of obvious mistakes that would make the Keystone Cops snicker in contempt for their incompetence. Unless you want to enter conspiracy theory gray areas (and I find myself increasingly there, myself), you have to assume that there was some institutional failure on the part of the Secret Service. Again, might not be DEI. But, handwaving it away with "mistakes were made" is the sort of thing libertarians used to get upset with local cops over.
Agreed.
To me acceptance of DEI means loss of focus, lack of discipline, and deprioritization of mission objectives.
The problem is that DEI is highly probable to be a contributing factor.
It's a simple question: were they hired for any reason other than their merit? If the answer is yes, then inferior was traded for superior for reasons that offered no benefit whatsoever to the end product.
Companies should put DEI in the fucking PR department. That is really what it is.
We've seen how well that's worked out with Intersectional Spox, who opens every press briefing with a reminder that she is, in fact, a black gay immigrant.
My favorite diversity muppet.
"Companies should put DEI in the fucking PR department."
Don't they?
Plausibly a contributing factor. But, honestly, the degree of screw-up here really seems to pass what I'd relegate to incompetence. And if it is incompetence, it's incompetence so fundamentally baked into the system that personnel choices are the least of the problems.
I agree with Use the Schwartz that DEI is a symptom more than a cause.
"That’s a cheap Republican talking point that keeps being trotted out these days: Every time there’s an issue with airplane mechanics, for example, a chorus of people says Boeing is obsessed with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hiring over safety."
Sure is a far cry from the cheap Democrat talking point of problems in a company being blamed on not having enough diversity, equity and inclusion in it.
Cheatle resigns 10:30am

Caint shit up an already shitted-up thread.
If you wanted to keep the thread shit-free, you wouldn't have posted.
A few years back you posted kiddy porn to this site, and your initial handle was banned. The link below details all the evidence surrounding that ban. A decent person would honor that ban and stay away from Reason. Instead you keep showing up, acting as if all people should just be ok with a kiddy-porn-posting asshole hanging around. Since I cannot get you to stay away, the only thing I can do is post this boilerplate.

Do you supposed the same person wrote her resignation as Brandon's?
That's a shame, he was good as War Machine.
Glad she resigned. It was the right thing to do.
Every time there's an issue with airplane mechanics, for example, a chorus of people says Boeing is obsessed with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hiring over safety
I mean, there is a correlation between DEI policies and planes literally falling out of the sky.
"The fixation on DEI is a little stupid but also not totally wrong.", said the birthing unit that is not a biologist.
DEI is straight up racism. Why do you tolerate it, Liz? Why do you make excuses for it?
Corporate media has been chanting equal opportunities mean equal outcomes for so long, that even Reason, living in deep blue areas, have become indoctrinated.
"OpenResearch, a nonprofit research lab funded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, "found that when it gave some of the poorest Americans $1,000 a month for three years with no strings attached, they put much of the money toward basic needs such as food, housing, and transportation," reports Wired..."
This experiment has been run many, many times and each time we get some fluff-ball report, but it seems the results are always couched in nebulous terms, never in numbers:
"Project that gave $500 a month to some California residents shows that such efforts could have a ‘profound impact on public health, researchers say"
https://www.cnn.com/2023/04/10/health/stockton-guaranteed-income/index.html
Further, the testing is always on a very limited number of people, ignoring the inflationary effect of universal distribution.
When they gave 1000 a month to 10 people in Africa who were previously making 30 dollars a month, those 10 people were very happy with the results.
"It made no statistical difference in their lives, but the people who got free shit were happy to receive free shit, and it COULD potentially cause a benefit"

The recipients of free hookers and cocaine were pleased. Can't find any downsides.
- "The Science"
Not to mention the added benefits to the hookers and dealers!
"ignoring the inflationary effect of universal distribution."
Ya, they dont seem to be able to comprehend the price of goods in a world where almost everyone gets nothing but a couple people get UBI would be drastically different than if literally everyone got it.
The same people that dont realize increasing the amount of people by millions more per year fighting for a relatively inflexible amount of housing would help to cause prices to skyrocket
Not to mention that we already know what happens when healthy adults with savings of their own are given free money: People retire early and live a life of leisure, supported by struggling young working families. it's called Social Security.
It would be better if Dear Leader simply hired private security. Why should the taxpayer foot the bill protecting this fat lying geriatric rapist? Now the ingrate and his fellow cultists are complaining about the people who saved his life. Fuck him and them. Get him off the public dole.
FOAD, asshole.
Jeff seems extra angry. All his bears must have escaped.
Like turd, I never bother reading what the steaming pile of lefty shit posts; none of it is worth the time.
It isnt worth the time. And most of the time just a smorgasbord of random thoughts unrelated to the topic as he seeks to gish gallop the conversation.
Breaking him was fun though. Exposed himself so badly these last few months as a standard marxist leaning leftist.
I don’t recall that. Can you tell me what other socks I am using so I have some context?
Don't worry. I don't think you are a sock account for chemjeff.
You seem to be an obvious sock for SPB2.

"Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle Resigns After Brutal Hearing"
https://www.newsweek.com/secret-service-director-kimberly-cheatle-resigns-after-brutal-house-hearing-1929094
"Brutal" in that they asked her specific questions and she was having a hard time coming up with all the necessary evasive answers.
And now we still don’t have answers and whoever is appointed can just lay all the faults on her and nothing gets fixed. Government working as intended.
she should have been fired or even charged with gross negligence of duty and lost all retirement benifits.
Note we also need proof of a functioning president is he alive or is he incapacitated. either scenario proves he was no hero for stepping aside and article 25 needs to be enacted so that we and the world knows that someone, even Harris, is in charge
Doesn't need to be that way. It is Congress' job to hold agencies accountable. Not just for their spending and compliance with legislation but also an independent audit function separate from operational management. It actually worked this time.
Congress did its job for the first time in decades. If this resignation and new appointee serves to distract Congress from doing its job and holding the next appointee accountable, then the exec branch and bureaucracy and deep state wins. If Congress has an attention span longer than a fruit fly - and uses its leverage over the exec branch, then there's a possibility that congress (and we the people) win.
I wouldn't bet on the latter but there is a one in a million chance.
As an aside - this is another structural issue where either a much larger congress and/or some sortition-based sub-assembly of Congress can help fix stuff. Congress is WAY too inclined to just grandstand instead of investigating anything. A sortition-based assembly has no reason to grandstand.
she was the sacrificial lamb and did her job perfectly. She'll get a nice cush position at a liberal think tank or board position at facebook or somethign like that after this

Guys,
I’m a little afraid that an obese soon to be 80 year old with a penchant for confusing names and mixing up facts and who has a poor diet and exercise routine may simply not be up to the job. Those people frequently end up exhibiting profound neurodegenerative decline and are prone to dementia. Are we sure we want someone like that controlling nuclear weapons?

He needs to slim down for the election.

I don’t know, man. Those drugs have side effects. Do you want your President having a mini-stroke while he’s facing down Vlad Putin. I don’t. 59 year old women— on the other hand— don’t seem to have these potentially profound neurological handicaps.

I think you’re overestimating the number of biologists in this country.
No biologist necessary. If you (1) have a penis and (2) accept that it defines you as a male, then you are sexist. And probably should not be allowed to vote.

The ‘far right’ smear just doesn’t work anymore…
It stopped working in 2016.
You know, with all the news lately, I've been feeling oddly non-partisan and patriotic. All I can say is it would sure be nice if the DNC Political Machine would have common decency of at least letting us know who's running the fucking country.
^^This.
Me too. My candidate was Chris Christie, who had the bravery and sense of honor to not kiss Dear Leader’s fat fucking ass.
I find myself in the weird position of having enough money in the bank to advocate for the free market, pro-immigrant policies of the Republican Party of my youth. You know like Reagan in the 80s. That said, I wouldn’t touch this fucking dumpster fire RP cult now

So you're on board with tariffs.
"My candidate was Chris Christie, who had the bravery and sense of honor to not kiss Dear Leader’s fat fucking ass."
Does anyone still doubt that this is Buttplug's sock now?
He's the only one that keeps going on about "Dear Leader" so I thought he wasn't even trying to hide it.
It's the Chris Christie fellatio that was the give away for me. Only Buttplug has ever praised him here.
This also means that Pluggo was the one spoofing me.
“I’m a little afraid that an obese soon to be 80 year old with a penchant for confusing names and mixing up facts and who has a poor diet and exercise routine may simply not be up to the job.”
But Chris Christie is fine? Obesity seems to be a red herring in your rants.
Even without the patriotism, has Ukraine won yet? Or is the big reveal after the Olympics?
Who do you think Obama will force to "resign" next? Wanna start a pool?
Kammy-kam-kam.
She's not going to make it past next week, unless they can find a Cheney to manage her.

The vast majority of the bottom quintile cannot be helped. They are there for a reason. A small percentage are the temporary exception and they get out of it after a while. The majority cannot. They do not have the wherewithal or the mental capacity. It’s the sad truth.
Guys,
I haven’t seen Dear Leader around lately. Is he ok.
You know, it was well-known that after Hinckley Reagan was never the same. Being almost shot in the head by some rando has got to put stress on the body and mind that wouldn’t become apparent until months or even years after the event. PTSD is notoriously difficult to diagnose and treat so do we really want someone that suffers from that to be in control of nuclear weapons. I fear a flashback. Can we really trust a senile geriatric having a flashback to his untreated trauma not to launch a nuclear attack against Russia? I’m just asking questions that need to be answered.
We've certainly seen more of Trump recently than we've seen of Biden since he left Las Vegas.
https://babylonbee.com/news/america-just-kinda-curious-if-president-alive
Fuck off, Buttplug. You already gave yourself away.
This is just embarrassing. 🙁
Ditch the mask already. Brag about your latest $1,000-per-plate lunch and go back to being "American Socia1ist."
At least then your username wouldn't be a love letter to the pathetic brain damaged loser whose own party bullied him into retirement.
Kinda weird that we have not seen Biden in a long while and his biggest supporters do not seem to give a damn.
Even the "well-adjusted" ones.
his biggest supporters
That was so last week.
New speculations from the back chatter I'm getting: He's had a stroke and is being shielded from the public while they assess.
The image I like to have in my head is Jill and Joe Biden are on house arrest like so much Timothy Leary.
Oh, by the way, just wanna get this out there:
For all the talk of dudes in bear costumes committing insurrection with our nation hanging in the balance after they sat in Madam Speaker’s Chair, worse than 9/11 etc., it is very possible we have a situation where DNC apparatchiks have executed an insurrection here… a no-shit coup. Chances we’ll see any “July 21st” hearings on the matter? Someone call Liz Cheney!
https://babylonbee.com/news/dems-pull-off-successful-insurrection
A truckload of fire extinguishers delivered to the White House should've tipped everyone off.
>"Of course, having lady cops, or aspiring to have lady cops, isn't necessarily the reason for the Secret Service's failures"
*Aspiring to have* lady cops is the core reason the SS failed. No, having lady cops isn't, but the push *to have more* is - because standards were lowered to do so.
Look at the overweight woman who couldn't holster her gun under stress - and compare her to some of her female (and all of her male) colleagues there at the time. If the SS standards weren't relaxed in order to get more women through training, standards weren't relaxed to get more women off law-enforcement/investigation and onto protective details, then this woman wouldn't have been there.
Indeed, even if you are pushing to get 30% women on the force - fine, there's a whole investigative mission the SS has that *doesn't require super-fit and smart* people. Its this weird perception thing - the protective details are not, IMO, even the important shit the SS does. Its a side-mission. Why the focus on getting women in there when they can be out doing the mainstream cop shit the SS does?
Okay here we go. This guy has posted the videos and audio analysis of the Trump assassination attempt. I'm no expert and I'm willing to look at contradictory conclusions. But he makes a compelling case that there were 3 shooters: Crooks, the SS sniper and a third unknown. Given the information the government has provided, or more to the point not provided, the lone misfit shooter story looks increasingly dubious.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&si=rymZZDEguRv1Om4K&v=LouUbMYb7Bc&feature=youtu.be&ab_channel=PeakProsperity
I listened to the audio again. I hear 3 initial shots in a 3 second span, then 4 or 5 more shots after a two second gap. 15 seconds after the first shot a single shot is heard, and then the all clear is given. (Someone said it took 26 seconds to neutralize the threat, but I don't hear that, at all.)
I assume the first 3 shots were Crooks, and the final shot was the SS sniper's kill shot. Maybe the second round of 4 shots were also from Crooks, with the fifth of those shots coming from the local police tactical team (which missed Crooks). But the second round of shots sounds different, and Crooks hit 3 spectators (possibly one of them was hit by the same bullet that gouged Trump's ear). So maybe the local cops are really bad shots and missed multiple times. Or Crooks moved slightly and the sound is different.
All of which could be cleared up with a ballistics report, matched to the audio. Who fired which shots, and when? Where did each bullet end up?

If I were in charge of damage control after a large-scale well-publicized screw-up by my company, and I told my CEO I would have the report ready in 60 days, he would have two words for me, and they wouldn't be "good job" or "all right," they would by "you're fired."
He would want a report in 24 hours, or a very good reason for why it would take a day or two longer than that. It's not like any new facts would be coming to light, or that I would have any higher priorities to work on, and anyone dragging their feet to cooperate would get a quick and stern phone call from him directly.
Of course, the obvious difference here (aside from private enterprise vs. government), is that the CEO of the government is Joe Biden, with the leadership ability of a first grader with laryngitis.
“Could you elaborate why you want one-third of the Secret Service to be women?” Cheatle denied that she wanted this, but Grothman appears to have done his homework.
“I’m very conscious as I sit in this chair now, of making sure that we need to attract diverse candidates and ensure that we are developing and giving opportunities to everybody in our workforce, and particularly women,” Cheatle said in a television interview with CBS News in 2023. She “aims to have 30% female recruits by 2030,” the news organization reported at the time.
————————
I am usually very happy with Reason’s reporting quality, but you’ve very much missed the mark here. 30% of agents and 30% of recruits to the agency are not the same thing. Grothman appears to have done some homework, to find a number, but then twisted a statement about trying to increase the percentage of female recruits into a statement about a target number for overall staffing. not sure whether he’s being disingenuous or simply making the same fundamental error as you, but let’s not give him credit for getting it right. when you've got an organization that has a population very dissimilar to the population from which it is drawn, it is not unreasonable to set goals for recruiting to rebalance it. that's far different from setting a goal to establish an arbitrary and non-representative population in the agency, which is what Grothman is implying and you are apparently accepting.
Tell that to the NFL and NBA. The demographics of athletes on a team has a population very dissimilar to the population from which it is drawn. It is not unreasonable to set goals for recruiting to rebalance it.
