Weapons for Christmas

Is $886 billion enough for you? Yesterday, the Senate passed a bill appropriating a cool $886 billion in defense spending. The bill extends authorization for Section 702, which allows for warrantless spying on foreign nationals—and their communications with U.S. citizens.
It gives members of the military 5.2 percent pay raises, and it shells out an awful lot of funding for both Israel and Ukraine. This is in addition to the $111 billion in funds for weapons doled out to allies abroad that Senate Democrats have been working on passing this week. (Zach Weissmueller and I discussed Section 702, the national debt, and the two wars abroad with Kentucky Republican Rep. Thomas Massie this week on our new show, Just Asking Questions.)
The House will vote on the $886 billion defense bill today. It is expected to pass.

As for the 167-page bill that would authorize $111 billion in spending, $15 billion would go toward Ukraine, $10.6 billion would go toward Israel (including $1.2 billion "to accelerate development of the Iron Beam missile defense system" and $4 billion in missile defense spending), $43.6 billion would boost American weapons production, $5 billion would go toward Customs and Border Protection, and $2.3 billion would be doled out to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
It's less clear that this one will pass, as the border-securing provisions have been a significant source of debate.
In short, Congress has a spending addiction that cannot be curbed. For libertarians concerned about runaway government spending, or the U.S. getting too heavily involved in foreign wars abroad, or the warrantless spying on American citizens, or the Republican demands to crack down on migration, there is very little to like.
Abortion pills considered by SCOTUS: Yesterday, the Supreme Court announced that it would consider a pair of cases involving the abortion pill mifepristone, specifically considering whether the pill can be prescribed up until 10 weeks of pregnancy (versus seven), whether it can be delivered by mail, and whether it can be prescribed via telehealth appointments.
Mifepristone plus misoprostol, a two-pill combination, are used in more than half of the abortions in the United States. "Mifepristone has been the subject of a high-profile legal battle throughout the past year," writes Reason's Elizabeth Nolan Brown. The ruling will most likely come toward the end of the Court's term, in June.
"The Supreme Court is now in the unusual position of ruling on abortion access even after its conservative majority declared that it would leave that question to elected officials," reported The New York Times. The timing of this also means that the abortion ruling will come just a few months before the presidential election.
Republicans are struggling to galvanize support for the pro-life cause in the era of substantial abortion restrictions and high-profile cases like that of Kate Cox, a mother who is traveling out of her home state, Texas, to seek an abortion for her second-trimester fetus who was diagnosed with trisomy 18. For pro-lifers like myself, consistent voter backlash to abortion restrictions has provided ample evidence that my side has failed to make the case as to why we believe abortion is immoral, as well as how laws ought to be diligently crafted to ensure physicians aren't operating in legal limbo.
Now, as the harrowing medical exemption cases come into full display, it seems likely that the voter backlash will grow even stronger, and that Republicans seeking office will have to contend with the consequences of both the laws their party has created and the Supreme Court's forthcoming mifepristone ruling.
Scenes from New York:
A New York Times investigation found that, over a three-week period, the city wasted 70,000 meals intended to go toward migrants.
DocGo, a medical services company (with a CEO embroiled in scandal), received a $432 million contract to provide services for migrants at taxpayers' expense. The contract stipulates that each meal is worth roughly $11, so the total amount of money wasted comes out to about $776,000. Over the course of a full month, that's more than a million dollars.
"Look how they're throwing out the food, because nobody eats it," said one Venezuelan migrant in a video. "This food is pure trash."

- Statistician/journalist Nate Silver writes about the big divide between liberals and leftists, first exposed by COVID-19 and now exposed by Israel (featuring some heavy talk of F.A. Hayek).
- Republican strategists—including former Trump administration official Kellyanne Conway—are telling the rest of the party to deemphasize abortion issues and focus on expanding birth control access.
- "The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit recently upheld New York's requirement that applicants for handgun carry permits demonstrate 'good moral character,' deeming it consistent with the Second Amendment," writes Reason's Jacob Sullum. What if that is not the shared truth established by collective reasoning?
It's not a fact, it's an opinion. We are free to disagree on matters of opinion.
Is it a 1984-style dystopia that we have a system of instruction in, say, math or language, in which everyone is taught a "shared reality" in arithmetic or grammar?
Is it a type of tyranny that as English speakers, we all understand that the word "cat" is a noun and the word "is" is a verb?
You might want to check with world renowned etymologist Bill Clinton on that last one.
It depends on what etymology is, and the kind of insect to which you are speaking.
You're confusing etymology with entomology.
Wouldn't be the first thing he got confused.
Etymology
Etymology is the scientific study of the origin and evolution of a word's semantic meaning across time, including its constituent morphemes and phonemes. It is a subfield of historical linguistics, philology, and semiotics, and draws upon comparative semantics, morphology, pragmatics, and phonetics in order to construct a comprehensive and chronological catalogue of all meanings that a morpheme, phoneme, word, or sign has carried across time.
I suspect 'twas a joke, and you all got trolled, but I've been gone for a little while and don't know all the new people.
How many genders are there?
None.
Where? Alien worlds, planet Earth, or the Anglosphere? Reminds me of a joke: how many legs does a dog have if you call the tail a leg? Answer: 4- calling a leg a tail doesn't make it one.
If the tail identifies as a leg, though, ...

"I don't know what you mean by 'glory'," Alice said.
Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously. "Of course you don't- till I tell you. I meant 'there's a nice knock-down argument for you!'"
"But 'glory' doesn't mean 'a nice knock-down argument'," Alice objected.
"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean- neither more nor less."
"The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."
"The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master-that's all."
Alice was too much puzzled to say anything; so after a minute Humpty Dumpty began again. "They've a temper some of them- particularly verbs: they're the proudest- adjectives you can do anything with, but not verbs- however, I can manage the whole lot of them! Impenetrability! That's what I say!"

I was surprised to learn that "Permanent means indefinite. It doesn’t necessarily mean permanent".
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) assembled a Rules Advisory Committee (RAC) earlier this week to address a permanent indoor mask mandate in the state. Oregon is one of a few states that still retain one nearly two years into the pandemic.
Dr. Paul Cieslak, the medical director for communicable diseases and immunizations with OHA, explained to KATU that..."Permanent means indefinite. It doesn’t necessarily mean permanent," Cieslak said. "We can repeal it as well, but we are only allowed to have a temporary rule for 180 days, and anything that goes beyond 180 days, we cannot extend it."
"And fuck authoritarian shitheads like ML"

Nikki Haley maybe, if I weren’t married and my wife didn’t know the combination to the gun safe.
I just don't get what people see in Nikki Haley on the physical attractiveness side. To me she's not hideous, but certainly not one I'd want to have physical relations with.
Now, Lauren Boebert and AOC are a completely different story. (In my opinion, at least.)
Just be careful of those teeth.
Haley's teeth or AOC's? I wouldn't want any part of me near Haley's teeth. Have you noticed how she sometimes talks with her teeth together but moves her lips--this was especially true at the last Republic debate? What's up with that?
AOC's teeth, I may risk it anyway. Although there are other things I'd be willing to do with AOC that don't involve teeth. Alright, now I'm getting too graphic.
That chick's got horsey teeth. Anything to do with them is a big neigh for me.
Haley has aged: we all do and usually woman less gracefully than men. She is 53. She has energy and passion, etc. She is also a war-mongering neocon, literally making money from death. AOC is the same attractive yet politically naive kind of girl I used to not talk politics around in order to get laid. Just looking at Lauren Bobbitt sets off every red flag in the book. I mean, she is attractive, but wow, there's crazy and then there's... wait, wasn't there a Florida Woman Bobbitt who chopped off her man's manhood?
Holy cow, the lady who chopped off her man's thing's name is Lorena Bobbitt.
"Never stick it in crazy."
I can see the AOC thing, but that's a steadfast rule.

Now scientists say BREATHING is bad for the environment: Gases we exhale contribute to 0.1% of the UK's greenhouse gas emissions https://trib.al/Cz1ddPL
Everyone or only Caucasians breathing?
So that is the width and the breath of the the problem.
Pretty soon we will all be ex-hale-and-hearty.
Best to air on the side of caution.
Those scientists should set a good example for the rest of us and stop.
"scientists"
I fucking hate science reporting. "Scientists say" is meaningless. Find two scientists (what field? who cares?) and get them to say something and you've got a true statement.
Half the time it is social scientists like Cook or Oreskey and not even real scientists.
Next thing you're going to tell me is that domestic engineers can't even drive trains.
The joke here would be something about women engineers. Chumby, any ideas?

Girls in engineering, where the odds aren’t good, and neighter are the goods
You missed the turn on this one. "Where the odds aren't good, or the goods are odd" or something like that.
Make it Asian women engineers, and look for videos of them trying to back up their train.
I know some women engineers I wouldn't mind running a train on.
Is there a tunnel involved?
All that CO2 is going to inflate the bubble we are in.

That percentage seems too high by several orders of magnitude or maybe the British are just really gassy?
How much British cuisine have you had?
I like the stuff inspired by Indian food.
I think we have our answer as to the increase in British methane production. 😉
Nurses are required to take continuing education credits. These can now be replaced with DEI indoctrination credits. Surely this will help our Healthcare.

15. A seven year old white male has broken his leg and is writhing in pain. Do you first note his privilege or check his carbon emissions?
Male or identifies as male?
Scientifically(TM) it's the same thing.
I work in health care and have continuing education stuff I have to do every year, which include board review questions. A not insignificant number of questions presented to me (about 5%) were related to DEI, microaggressions, gender nonsense.
The fun part is, they include all of the outcomes without proper context as to what created the situation. "A black parturient is coming in for delivery, how will her outcome statistically compare to a white patient?" Then they go on in the explanation to talk about the inequality present and how healthcare is failing black mothers. Of note, nowhere included in the explanation is the fact that the consistently worst outcomes come in mother's who have a massive list of comorbidities, are morbidly obese, and have not sought any sort of prenatal care at all, because that would put the slightest bit of responsibility on the patient herself. No, its white privilege all the way down and systemic racism / inequality.
Other fun ones include how women are likely to face micro/macroaggressions from their male coworkers talking down to them and assuming they have superior skills to the women, and the gender pay gap being an absolute fact, despite it being widely known that that difference in full time vs part time is stark in men vs women in healthcare.
The major organizations (the AMA and all the individual specialty offshoots) are fully bought into the propaganda and distribute it plentifully
These trainings are easy. Just skip to the evaluation at the end. If the statement is true, select "false" and vice versa.
"Parturient"? Is that what they call pregger wo-merns now?
🙂
😉
Seriously, I'd answer the question by saying: "Her treatment would be a lot faster and better if I didn't have to waste time and energy on this Woke-y shit! Now let me back to my damn job!"
🙂
😉
There is nothing quite so disgusting as labeling standard things anyone is recommended to do, such as prenatal care or even just taking care of yourself, as 'white privilege'.
It's basically saying white people are more responsible than everyone else, which is hilariously tone deaf and/or pretends that poor white people don't exist since any socio-economic shade you can throw at poor black people equally applies to the greater number of poor whites. They are literally the same cohort.
I worked for east Texas hospitals, including the ER, in various administration roles and I can definitely say that poor white patients are just about indistinguishable on paper from poor black patients outside a few very specific genetic conditions, most notably sickle cell.
As for women being more likely to face issues from male coworkers...there may be a grain of truth there but notably I was sexually harassed by a female boss as a man and administration did jack shit about it since female bosses are essentially immune to the very notion of sexual harassment of their underlings. If I had been a woman, no doubt the hospital would have settled as they did for other similar cases with the sex of the offender reversed.
"female bosses are essentially immune to the very notion of sexual harassment"
We had a former resident who stayed on as an attending in my residency program. She was absolutely disgusting physicially, and openly would hit on most of the guys in the program. Very obvious stuff, would get all up in your space, ass slaps, shoulder rubs.
Being that most of us were big guys, no one felt threatened by her, but just disgusted, we would joke and laugh about it "you got the shoulder rub and reach around today didnt you?!" kinda stuff. One guy finally complained to the program director mostly because he was just grossed out, and she just laughed about it and moved on. More importantly for her, said ass slapper was doing lots of research and had a few intersectionality points. Nothing ever happened to her, shes still there slappin those young guys asses.
Would be awesome if she was hot
Pretty much exactly what I was told, and a very similar situation, despite the fact she was my direct supervisor and a supervisor of a lot of other men since ours was one of the few hospital departments that was mostly male staff.
Most people didn't care, but I was singled out for most of it so I decided to complain about it. Especially after performance reviews that indicated that I should shut up about it if I wanted to be promoted further.
It was basically laughed off, ironically the exact same shit response female staff supposedly complain about constantly.
If not for double standards, they would have none.
I recently had to sit through a 30 minute DEI on “microagressions” video to check a box at work. Terrific, we’ve progressed to the point where significant effort is needed to parse out unintended insults so that EVERYONE can be offended.
A few observations:
* Among the people identified in the video as a “DEI expert” (various titles, but they boiled down to that), there was ZERO diversity; every single one of them was (or at least presented as) a black woman
* Within the panel talking about microaggressions and how they made them feel, there was not a single person who “looked like me”
* On a couple of occasions, I felt that I had been the victim of a microaggression by just watching the video; e.g., one character chastised the viewers who might be dismissive of the idea of the damaging effects of microaggressions to “not be fragile”, which of course invokes “white fragility” and is therefore clearly a racist comment
* The film noted that microaggressions are “usually unconscious,” meaning they are not intentional, but then continues to use terms like “the people targeted”, which implies intent
* The film promoted “microinclusions”, which seemed to be nothing more than demands that we intentionally should treat people of specific races, religions, orientations, and gender identities differently–with kid gloves, but somehow not in a patronizing way.

Invoke Article 6 of the UN Charter against the United States.

Move to expel America from the United Nations.
Don't have to ask me twice.
Can we expel the UN from America?
I don't see how us being excluded from a group that has a human rights council consisting of a bunch of freedom lovers is a loss. We should boot them and nobody will miss them.
I take it that you say "freedom-lovers" sarcastically, right?
That would take years of lawyering. They must have a lease on the building, and other contractual privileges.
I wouldn't count on it.
And if so, they can sue to get back in... from somewhere else.
I say "Hell yeah" but keep the building as an international headquarters for affordable housing, bordellos, casinos, precious metal currency exchanges, experimental pharmaceuticals, organ brokerages, pirate radio broadcasters, dissident blogger and vlogger servers and VPNs, and use the underground parking as a shooting range.
In other words, turn the U.N. Headquarters into a Libertarian Mecca. (Yeah, I said "Mecca!")

Seconded!
Yeah, my feelings: "well, bye!"
Wonderful
Free at last!
Then who will fund it?
They will demand the US to continue to fund it I'm sure.
If you really want to see people's heads explode, use eminent domain to kick the UN out of NYC and donate the land to Trump so he can build something useful on that site. Then you can blame RBG and the Kelo verdict.
All you have to do is fly a jet into the building and it will magically turn into dust and blow away.
At least stop giving them money.
We have place explosives all around the un building. You have 1 hour to get your crap and get out. America is done with you
Then how would our government get information on how to control our speech?
Amusingly, that would leave Russia and China as the leaders of the UN and something tells me the EU would quickly find it's back against a wall if that happened.
Unfortunately, the hard way is the only way some people ever learn.
Funding to continue the genocide is secured, Reason must be so please.
Strange genocide, when the numbers of Arabs there have increased, and the Muslims within Israel have the same rights (maybe even more as they cannot be conscripted) as the Jews in Israel. The only attempts of genocide come from groups like Hamas and their "river to the sea" rhetoric.

Lol.
Sure, their "mistakes" are "just mistakes" but why then do they seem to ratchet in one direction only.
Has the NYT ever made a mistake that favored Trump, Republicans, or anyone to the right of AOC? I'll hang up and listen.

Yes.
Civil War - The film depicts an extreme but plausible American dystopia in which 19 states, led by Texas and California, secede from the country.
I'm trying to see how Cali and Texas could ever align enough to secede.
Doesn't seem plausible.
They split the country from the Minnesota-N. Dakota border straight down. So places like Alaska and Wyoming and Kansas are on the same side as Portland and Seattle and San Fran. Seems legit.
They apparently have a scene with a politician yelling to shoot reporters on sight.
It makes no sense whatsoever. The split isn't north/south or east/west, it's really person/person. Even the Civil War itself had pockets for the Union in the South (eastern Tennessee, NE Alabama, West Virginia - the whole reason the state came to be) and pockets for the Confederacy in the North (Kentucky and Missouri had Confederate governments, Illinois south of what is now US-50 - troops had to be garrisoned in Cairo).
In many ways, this civil war has begun, but it's not with weapons, but rhetoric, and it's mostly online. We've already seen the salvos, and there's a lot of character assassination thus far. The question is, what happens when someone actually gets assassinated?
The split isn’t north/south or east/west, it’s really person/person.
Yup. Partisan hatred is such that it's family members against family members, coworkers against coworkers, neighbors against neighbors. And it's not going to get any better.
We’ve already seen the salvos, and there’s a lot of character assassination thus far.
Hey, that's ok as long as the person isn't part of your tribe, right? That's been made abundantly clear in these comments.
The question is, what happens when someone actually gets assassinated?
See what happens after the next presidential election. I believe that if the crybaby doesn't get his way, that his deranged supporters will draw blood this time.

Can you define fat right and which narrative you're complaining about?
Oh. Never mind. You support state legal abuses against your political enemies. I keep forgetting. And pointing that out is what you consider far right. 1400 j6 prisoners gets you off daily but don't dare call you a state loving leftist.
Pointing out political abuses is now far right. Lol.
You declare anything different from what you spout to be the leftist narrative. That must mean whatever you say is the far-right narrative.
You support state legal abuses against your political enemies. I keep forgetting.
How could you forget? You say that every single day.
I've gotten tired of refusing the same tired lies so I let it slide. The only people who believe you are idiots anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Sarc. I will ask again.
Define far right. Give examples of these far right narratives.
You've refuted nothing. You've lied about past statements. Lol. Look at you cry about being called a leftist as you call multiple people far right.

If you can't figure it out from any of those replies, then you're never going to figure it out.
Thats not a definition retard. It is you making accusations of others for what you are doing. It us projecting.
I find it hilarious you can't point to examples or policy stances to define far right. Instead you just claim people are playing a tribalist game as you spend all day here putting people into tribes. It is fucking hilariously hypocritical.
So let me ask more clearly.
What policy positions and arguments makes someone far right. Specificity is key here buddy.
I believe that if the crybaby doesn’t get his way, that his deranged supporters will draw blood this time.
Nothing specific so you can deny in the future.
Even if it was specific and then reposted in the comments he would deny it. So doesn't matter.

So, officials from both the House and the Senate were responsible for approving security arrangements. This is according to your own article. Would you agree?
So if the leaders of the Democrat-led House at the time share blame, then the leaders of the Republican-led Senate at the time should also share blame. Would you agree?
It wasn’t predicted.
Sure, like I should believe anything from the alt-right wingnuts at NPR.
NPR was a happy accident. It's hard for ones like Jeffy to go after it as that's what they use anyway.
Of course they could have predicted it, they ORCHESTRATED it.
I think we were supposed to forget about all the glowies participating in it.
Major metro areas become city-state enclaves and leave the rest of us out of it.
and leave the rest of us out of it.
Hahahahaha
I mean, it's all kind of a fantasy. If any national split happens, it will be a shit show.
The split isn’t north/south or east/west, it’s really person/person.
It's urban and college town/small town and rural.
Well, nobody died I suppose but a gunman tried to kill all the Republican Congressmen and...well the story vanished after a few days and nothing else happened.
I find it difficult to believe the same would have been the result had a psychotic Republican tried to kill all the Democrats in Congress, but we may never know since apparently no such attempt has ever been made.
One would expect that some of our more obvious Democrat/Progressive commentors would make note of that fact, but of course that would ruin their 'Republicans are psycho killers' narrative so instead they ignore it. Same thing goes for the trans-shooter.
A lot of folks outside the major cities might be willing to throw in with Texas, let the cities fend for themselves. That would be something to see..Escape from LA...
I'm interested in a modern Civil War movie, but I expect much White Supremacy® overtones.
The Purge movies comes to mind. Whites and the NRA are the new Nazis.
I thought Jews were the new Nazis?
Also, those Purge movies were idiotic. The very premise is contradictory. If you had a society in which a thing like The Purge existed, you wouldn't have a society that largely looks like the modern west. Property rights would become meaningless. Cultural norms wouldn't be similar or recognizable. What legal structures would be in place to allow such a thing to happen?
Conspiracy to commit a crime is a crime. If you're planning to rob someone, shoot someone during the Purge, is that legal? It's not legal at the time you're planning it. And if you believe someone is planning to kill you on the day of, if you kill them the day before, is that self-defense?
It breaks down, it doesn't work, at least not in a society that bears any similarity to a western, modern society. You have to turn your brain off to all of the ways that world simply doesn't work on a fundamental level to enjoy any of them.
Not arguing with what you're saying but The Purge was a virtue signal about racism and classism. One day per year, Wealthy Whitey gets to go hunt brown people.
And if everything were legal for 24 hours, wouldn't that include overthrowing the very government that said that everything was legal for 24 hours?
Once again, Anarchism and Totalitarianism are flip sides of the same coin.
One of the last sequels had that be the plot.
True story: In 2016 there was a girl at the store where I work who said that: "If Donald Trump gets elected, Imma starting The Purge!"
As much as I despise Trump. I was happy to hear that my employer rightly fired her and banned her from the premises.
And when I found out she worked at the nearby Burger King, I stayed the Hell away, suspecting I might get a bug-killer Whopper in the drive-thru.
Texas and not Cali seems more plausible. During an extreme event (giant meteor, nuclear war, system collapse, coordinated grid destruction, etc) the divide will be urban vs rural.
the divide will be urban vs rural.
Yep. When (not if) the system fails, the urbanites with resources will flood the rural areas demanding food, water, and sanctuary. It will be an ugly fucking event.
The rural areas have all the nukes.
And available food and water. Urbanites are at the mercy of their infrastructure.
But not the launch codes.
Even at that, Cali and Texas would split up. The California hinterlands have a lot of Republican voters (they're just obviously way outvoted by the residents on the coast), while Texas has shitlib enclaves like Houston, San Antonio, Austin, pretty much the whole Rio Grande Valley, and the college towns, which are balanced out mainly because Texas has so many smaller rural, semi-rural, and exurban areas compared to, say, Colorado where most of the population is concentrated in the Front Range.
Give it a few more years. Texas will be blue. Nothing will stop the bankruptcy of the nation.
Let me know when the Democrats win any statewide office of any kind, or no less than 45% of either house of the state legislature or the Congressional delegation, and I'll start vaguely worrying about Texas maybe going blue.
I was reading somewhere that there is an outflow of tech workers from Austin back to Seatle, etc. That's at least one big blue dot that's shrinking.
I, for one, am glad the Hollywood strike is over so they can get back to providing entertainment of this quality again.
"deemphasize abortion issues and focus on expanding birth control access."
If you actually want to lower the total number of abortions, and actually maybe win over some voters, this is the way to go.
That would of course mean giving up an opportunity to exercise control over women. Which seems to be an important part of the anti-abortion movement.
And thisnus an example of why dems keep killing OTC birth control. So idiots like M4E can continue with narratives.
Only to people who can't comprehend the motivations or arguments coming from the right.
Yeah, is that why Liz is pro life?
I agree with you that abortion ought to be legal. But it's really not hard to see that most people who oppose it actually just thing that abortion, when used for birth control and not as a medical necessity, is an immoral taking of life.
Agreed, I think the honest arguments are that both the taking of the life and the state forcing the mother to carry the child as immoral.
I agree that women have no agency. After all, one cannot expect a woman to realize that the natural result of sex is pregnancy. That's for the man to determine.
But hey, at least the man doesn't get to choose if she has an abortion or not. They're just held liable if she chooses to let it live.
It would perhaps be good law from the left to assume every fetus will be aborted by default, and women must affirmatively state they intend to let it live going forward.
It would certainly make the states position more uniform going forward given that at the moment if you murder a pregnant woman in front of an abortion clinic they still pretend that you killed two people but if the fetus dies inside the clinic it's a free pass. If the woman dies as a result of the procedure it's likely a malpractice suit versus a murder charge, too.
/sarc
There is a definite imbalance. If a woman decides to terminate a pregnancy, but the father-to-be doesn't want her to, his desires have zero weight. But if a woman decides to keep a child that the father wanted her to abort, he's still liable for child support.
The GOP has been doing that for 2 decades.
Democrats keep killing OTC changes.
If it was OTC, they couldn't force insurance companies to provide it for free.
Looks like Reason even used to notice it was dems blocking OTC birth control.
https://reason.com/2019/01/16/deregulate-the-pill/
Yeah, it's been gaining traction on the right for years.
https://reason.com/2016/02/04/missouri-birth-control-bill/
The traction has been there for a long time. But it would reduce PPs funding mechanism in donations to Dems and stop a talking point.
Older example:
https://reason.com/2015/05/26/over-the-counter-birth-control-bill/
And then the Republicans do this:
https://thehill.com/opinion/congress-blog/4064735-congress-must-codify-the-right-to-contraception-before-its-too-late/
We don't have to codify a 'right' to contraception. There is no 'right' to contraception.
We should eliminate the barriers preventing people from being able to access it for themselves. We don't have to fund it or make up rights.
But perhaps now you can understand how Team Red can be portrayed as being opposed to contraception.
Because they're honest about what bull shit the legal analysis was in the Griswold case? Of course there's not the slightest chance any advanced country now is going to restrict contraception statutorily, so is it important to twist constitutional jurisprudence to keep that magically-produced right active?
There is no "lack of access" to birth control. People don't use birth control (the leading reason for abortions) because they are irresponsible and negligent.
Trojan condoms are 33 cents each with same day delivery on Amazon.
They are about 50 cents each at Walmart.
From drugs.com
Birth control pills are typically free for women under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). However, birth control pills are often affordable, depending upon health insurance coverage and generic availability. In general, you should be able to get birth control pills from $10 to $50 per month if you pay cash, although there are many more expensive options.
But "expanding birth control access" is like "expanding broadband Internet access".
Both involve a broad.
Dammit, Chumby. I almost choked on the water I was drinking while reading that!
USSC to take up the J6 narrative and use of financial crimes statute to go after J6 protestors who faced felonies with 20 year sentences.
https://justthenews.com/government/courts-law/supreme-court-hear-case-could-undo-hundreds-jan-6-charges-including-trumps
I think the odds are they will find for the plaintiffs. It's a statutory construction case and the DC circuit has stretched it beyond any rational interpretation. Not sure about Trump's immunity case. Need to read some lawyerly opinions on the merits.
Immunity case is a bit trickier as elections are run by states and not by the federal executive.
But the problem is the immunity case is more over the conspiracy and criminalization of petitioning government or speaking, so more a 1a issue than a presidential immunity issue.
"Look how they're throwing out the food, because nobody eats it," said one Venezuelan migrant in a video. "This food is pure trash."
Huh. How about that.
They could always go home and not eat in Venezuela.
*applause*
So grateful to have these gifts of love in our country. Perhaps this will motivate them to start MOAR food trucks.
Since they’re a net benefit, they must be adding a shit ton to the economy to outweigh that food bill.
If they were a net benefit, why are some many blue state governors and blue city mayors crying about how much they are costing?

The Arlington Reconciliation Monument will be removed likely in 5 days from now. I still hope for Congress to step in, but I don't see it happening to be honest. Do you guys remember when they said monuments in cemeteries would remain untouched? They were lying.
In December 1914, during the first year of The Great War, Germans and British fighting on the western front cast aside their arms and met in the no man’s land between the trenches. They exchanged pleasantries, gifts, and carols. There are reports that a football match was played. This Truce did not last and four years of hell followed.
Perhaps this Christmas, Congress can decide to stop borrowing against ploughshares to obatian swords for use in some foreign land.
Better yet, let Citizens in the private sector equip their John Deere "ploughshares" with tripod-mounted M-60 "swords".
Sad to say to all the Bible-thumpers: You still have to study war to either avoid it or failing that, fight it to win.

or the Republican demands to crack down on migration, there is very little to like.
Complaint about spending 800B then ignoring the 700B spent in illegal immigrants by governments doesn't make a lot of sense. If you're going to take this route at least discuss the costs for the latter you're inherently defending by being against border enforcement. Ignoring the cost isnt a libertarian position.
Even democrats are finally noticing the costs after all. Don't be worse than them.
C'mon, Jesse. $1.5T for those two things is only $5000 per legal resident / $10k per taxpayer.
Would they at least do my lawn?
Complaint about spending 800B then ignoring the 700B spent in illegal immigrants by governments doesn’t make a lot of sense. If you’re going to take this route at least discuss the costs for the latter you’re inherently defending by being against border enforcement. Ignoring the cost isnt a libertarian position.
That's funny, that is the point that I continually make when you and your team complain about the cost of migrants consuming welfare, yet ignore the costs of native-born citizens consuming welfare.
So by your argument, I guess we can say that you are in favor of native-born citizens consuming welfare, since you ignore those costs and focus so much on the costs of migrants consuming welfare.
Opposing illegals using welfare, in no way, indicates support of natives using welfare. That is a silly assertion.
But that is Jesse's argument. Jesse above is arguing that since Liz is complaining about $800 billion in defense spending, but ignoring $700 billion in spending on undocumented migrants (assuming that number is even accurate), that ignoring that spending is implicitly defending that spending.
I mean, I don't accept the premises of Jesse's argument, but that is his argument after all.
So according to Jesse's own premises, since him (and now you) ignore the costs of welfare for native-born citizens, while obsess over the costs of welfare for migrants, that must mean you are defending the costs of welfare for native-born citizens.
$700 billion in spending on undocumented migrants
That number is bullshit. Jesse picked it up on one of his wingnut sites. Probably Gateway Pundit - the guy known as the "stupidest man on the internet".
I am pretty sure it is bullshit. They tend to do things like include the cost of public education of a child that was born to undocumented parents but who is a US citizen, as "welfare for illegals". But that is a separate discussion.
Actually I've given the links before. Jeff was in the thread. He denied it too.
Common leftist refrain to deny reality.
Yes I know. I've seen the links, and I've shown how the numbers are bullshit from your links.
You however never update your talking points.
Did his links subtract the taxes migrant workers paid?
Meanwhile:
Venezuelan migrants are flooding to a posh Colorado ski resort town with no homeless shelter after hearing rumors that there are plenty of jobs to be offered.
Major U.S. cities are seeing huge influxes of migrant arrivals and Denver - with 2,600 migrants in the city's shelter system and 200 on the streets - isn't the only Colorado hotbed affected by the crisis.
Carbondale is a home rule municipality in Garfield County, Colorado, with a population of around 6,434. The town is a 30-minute drive away from the high-end ski resort town of Aspen - located in Colorado's Rocky Mountains.
Described as a small town with a big heart, the expensive community is overrun by at least 125 Venezuelan migrants who travelled to the remote mountain neighborhood after hearing word that there are plenty of job opportunities on offer.
However, the town is known for luxury ski chalet homes and is already facing a housing crisis - so the new arrivals have been left with no choice but to sleep outside in their cars...
The arrival of 125 migrants have raised the city's homeless by 500 percent, which has put a significant strain on the town's resources.
'We don't want to become a destination for people,' Mayor Ben Bohmfalk said. 'We can't take more people than we have now. We're really over what we can handle.'
Bohmfalk said that last week he asked the state for more than $200,000 to help house and feed the migrants and insisted that the town did not have the facilities to take them on.
'We don't want people to see these stories and think, oh, Carbondale is the place to go. They're really welcoming,' Bohmfalk said. 'We are absolutely not equipped to take more people.'
The town opened up an emergency shelter that holds up to 60 people inside a building that had extra space, the rest of the homeless population are sleeping in the parking lot.
"Growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell."--Edward Abbey
Of course not. That would be honest.
It is cute how the leftist ignorati here think poor people pay more taxes than services used.
To answer your question shrike, yes it did. NYC is spending over 10B alone this year on illegal immigrants not paying taxes.
It is amazing how you and Jeff love your ignorance.
Here, as just a small example of why your question is retarded.
https://cis.org/Camarota/Welfare-Use-Immigrants-and-NativeBorn-Households
I've posted just this link a dozen times. It doesn't include not welfare based costs like the current free housing, government funded legal help, education costs, or even blue states subsidizing their Healthcare.
Yes you have, and I've pointed out that that link is misleading. It doesn't separate how the welfare is distributed among different demographic categories. Previous studies have shown that if you look at welfare usage by education level and family size, that the rate of consumption between immigrant and native-born households is about the same, AND that for immigrant households the usage centers on public schooling and Medicaid. Meaning, that they tend not to come here to get food stamps and housing vouchers. They enroll their kids in public school because it is illegal otherwise, and they use public health care systems because everyone gets sick, it is unavoidable. And they aren't doing it to greater rates than native-born households, when doing an apples-to-apples comparison.
In short, migrants are just ordinary people, not a bunch of socialist moochers.
His argument seems to be that spending tons of money is a bad idea and spending tons of money on illegals is rather bad on the spectrum of really bad ideas.
I didn't see him arguing that we should take the money spent on illegals and give it to natives. He seems to argue to cut the spending...period.
I have never argued for that and Jeff knows that. I have criticized every welfare program. Liberty includes the right to fail.
I've always advocated for charities to be the source of welfare, not government. Jeff knows this. He is just dishonest.
I didn’t see him arguing that we should take the money spent on illegals and give it to natives.
That's not what I said. I didn't argue that Jesse wants the money going to undocumented migrants to be given to citizens. Rather, by Jesse's own reasoning - since he spends so much time obsessing over the welfare that goes to undocumented migrants, but only gives token effort to barely criticize the welfare that goes to native-born citizens, that must mean he is defending the welfare that goes to citizens.
I'm pointing out what a crappy logician he is.
...by being an even worse one?
I guess that's pwning him or something.
What site are you reading? I have not said a word about defending the cost of welfare for native citizens. I am curious what alternate site you are perusing here. I have never once said that spending on welfare is not obscenely extravagant. Not one single time. So, what are you reading, since it cannot be Reason?
I assume that as opposed to you lying. Benefit of the doubt and all.
New here? You assume incorrectly. Lying Jeffy lies, it’s what he does.
I have not said a word about defending the cost of welfare for native citizens.
Oh, you haven't? Then maybe you should be chatting with Jesse.
Let me make it plain to you then.
Jesse is arguing that since Liz is complaining about $800 billion in defense spending, but isn't complaining about $700 billion in welfare spending on undocumented migrants, that must mean Liz is defending the welfare spending.
I'm just using his same argument.
Jesse, clearly, dislikes BOTH. He points out that Reason has a habit of ignoring one consistently. The "savings" in eliminating the military spending is basically a washout with what we are spending on illegals.
This really is not a challenging concept.
If people are going to point out the costs of border security and immigration enforcement, it seems only fair to point out that those costs might be weighed against the costs of not doing that thing. It's rather obtuse to talk about an issue and pretend you're being objective without addressing that there may be trade-offs. Costs should definitely be weighed on either side.
I completely agree. And to go further, let's also include in the equation the costs associated with lost liberty.
Migrant child molesters should still be shot in the face.
I'm pretty sure most people here have consistently argued against the welfare state for citizens too. Using welfare state benefits for illegal aliens is just adding injury to insult, doubling down, as it were.
And worse, we're told that we're not importing poverty, that aliens are always a net positive and therefore have no cost. Stop pissing down my neck and telling me it's raining.

Just feels like KMW is having more editorial input the last few days. More NYT links, focus on abortion, ignoring state legal abuses.
Hope that isn't the case.
Instead of bitching and moaning and complaining incessantly about stories Reason doesn't cover, why don't you find a website that does and post there instead?
Morning drunky. Instead of bitching about people bitching about the editorial direction, have you thought about going to Huffpo?
Imagine a place where your worldview is in the majority. You'll find the bien pensant commenters there are much more to your liking.
I'm trying to help the guy out. He's obviously unhappy. Instead of being perpetually angry about Reason's editorial choices, perhaps he should try a place where his worldview is in the majority. Where murdering people over politics and rounding up non-humans without papers is promoted by the editors.
So many ideas! Never starts shit! Yet so far all of his comments are complaining about other people.
Sarc, have you ever considered you to be the problem? You have Jeff on your team, but thats about it.
The comments here outside you, him, and shrike are often filled with good information. That's why people come to the threads.
But I understand the need for an intellectual bubble for those who aren't actually intellectuals and ignorant. So keep your Christmas dream alive.
The comments here outside you, him, and shrike are often filled with good information. That’s why people come to the threads.
If that's what you call regurgitated talking points from the fringes of the far-right, sure. Whatever you say, dear.
Do you have an example sarc?
And is this an example of you being allowed to call people far right but don't dare call you a leftist?
Jeff can't do it, can you define far right?
I'll give you a recent example of you pushing leftist narratives. It was just last week you claimed Trump was a dictator because he made a joke. You were provided the full context but then doubled down.
Another. Over the weekend you called a Video with Kirby at a press conference discussing American troops against Russia if Ukraine wasn't funded a fake video.
So now give me examples of my far right comments after you define it.
It was just last week you claimed Trump was a dictator because he made a joke.
What?
Over the weekend you called a Video with Kirby at a press conference discussing American troops against Russia if Ukraine wasn’t funded a fake video.
Ohhhh. No wonder I couldn't find it. The conversation started with the assertion that Biden said he was going to reinstate the draft. I looked that up and everything I found said it was a fake. Then you jumped in and said it was Kirby instead so I tried to find that speech about the draft. Couldn't find it.
I didn't realize you'd moved the goalposts from conscription to troops without telling me.
Biden was never brought up retard. It was labeled the Biden administration. God damn. You'll literally lie about anything.
And you're now claiming you didn't post the story about Trump claiming he was a dictator? Lol.
Pathalogical. This is amazing.
The initial conversation was about Biden reinstating the draft. Then you butted in and moved the goalposts without telling me.
As far as your other accusation goes, that's yet another example of you lying by taking something you inferred from what I said and then claiming that's what I actually said.
It's all you do and it's tiresome.
Youre wrong on every count. Initial statement was Tucker telling people on Twitter what Lloyd Austin told Congressional Members in a meeting. Then Kirby was discussed.
Again. Youre pathalogical.
I didn't infer anything. You posted a daily mail article about Trump claiming he was a dictator. That interview was him joking about I being for 1 day to fix the border. Then you started crying about Trump arresting political opponents while dems currently do so as you support it.
You have serious long term memory problems from alcohol abuse.
I mean the draft didn't even get fucking brought up in the conversation. Lol.
Very tiresome.
Then post a link to the conversation. I'm sure you've got one bookmarked. Then anyone can go to before you rudely butted in and see that you're full of shit.
If I do are you going to cry I bookmark you? Will you admit you're lying here?
The fact that you will not provide a link is proof that you are lying. Thanks.
Will you agree to the above conditions sarc. I know it was either weekend or roundup. It won't take long to find.
Will you agree youre a pathalogical liar when I link?
Where murdering people over politics and rounding up non-humans without papers is promoted by the editors.
Nice strawman by the way. Odd that just yesterday you claimed you were aware of the costs yet again you retreat to leftist narratives.
Hilarious.
But keep claiming global welfare is a libertarian ideal. Working out great for you.
But keep claiming global welfare is a libertarian ideal.
Is that the latest rant from the voices in your head? Dude, get help.
I mean this thread i discuss the massive costs on welfare for illegal immigrants you again deflect with strawman. Thoughts? Just kidding, you never think.
I'm sorry I tuned out when you started with the far-right narrative. What are you accusing me of this time?
Define far right. You and Jeff never do. I gave examples of your leftist narratives.
Which narrative? The actual costs of government money spent on illegal immigrants?
I'll add narratives to the list of words you dont know.
Define far right. You and Jeff never do.
Far-right is people like you who see politics as a left-right paradigm, and align themselves with what they perceive to be the right. It's pure tribalism. You assume anyone who isn't part of your tribe is part of the other tribe, and you call them liars if they disagree with what you say their tribe believes.
That's what makes you so tiresome.
I gave examples of your leftist narratives.
You accuse anything that differs from what your tribe says to be leftist.
Define far right.
I've done that 50 times, you moron.
Define far right.
From my perspective, this is a pointless conversation, because it will inevitably get derailed into minutiae over endless exceptions and trivialities.
For example, take abortion. Would "far right" be someone who wants to ban ALL abortion? But what about the person who wants to ban all abortion except to save the health of the mother with very very narrow exceptions? Is that not "far right" enough? How about someone who favors a rape or incest exception? Is that not "far right" enough? Etc., etc. It is all pointless.
It is the same with terms like "left-wing" and "right-wing". These are more broad descriptions rather than precise appellations. Demanding narrow definitions is IMO a bad faith exercise.
No you haven't shrike lol. Your single attempt would make antifa and dem groups be labeled far right.
Far-right is people like you who see politics as a left-right paradigm, and align themselves with what they perceive to be the right. It’s pure tribalism. You assume anyone who isn’t part of your tribe is part of the other tribe, and you call them liars if they disagree with what you say their tribe believes.
This isn't a definition if it was then you're by definition of being far left as you constantly accuse people even this morning of being far right.
Now define far right. You just projected your own behaviors. This is literally describing all of your posts this morning just from the other direction lol.
Jesse, you ignoramus on history.
Since the French Revolution - the "right" has always been emblematic of a superior group/race/class - the Monarchists back then in France (who sat on the right of the assembly).
The Left were the egalitarian radicals who wanted "equality" for all.
People who see politics as a left-right paradigm only see two options for themselves (third choice is fuck you but that's not counted). Often there's some issue like abortion or taxes or guns that is important enough for them to choose a side, but then they start to adopt the other ideas of that side. They also assume that anyone who disagrees on certain issues must be a similar conformist except for the other side.
What is the far-right or the far-left? It's what people inside that box believe.
Oh, and you'll never bookmark this. No. You'll ask the same question again and again, provide a strawman answer to argue against.
Since the French Revolution...
And these terms really were for liberals versus monarchists. They did not apply in that way in the US, where there are no monarchists.
https://theconversation.com/the-evolution-of-frances-left-and-right-politics-from-the-1789-french-revolution-to-this-years-election-76226
The US terms are better looked at as Federalist and anti-Federalist, evolving into those who prefer a greater concentration of power in the federal government (currently Dems and GOPe), and those who believe the power of the federal government should be reduced (other GOP and Libertarians - which is why they get along better). We lost our monarchists after 1781, when Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown. Hence, the "right" in the US, in that sense, is non-existent. Those folks went to Canada.
It should be noted here that neither shrike nor sarc can point to any definition not built as a narrative. No specifics. No policy discussion. And inclusive of groups. For example shrikes definition of far right being race based describes the current DEI movement and racial aspects of the current DNC. His definition makes half the DNC far right. Sarcs definition is even dumber as it is focused on behaviors that he himself is doing in just this thread.
It is amazing.
And sarc, if you want me to bookmark it will be labeled as hypocritical retard nonsense.
Ok Mary, whatever you say.
I do not understand what you think you gain by posting that. It just shows how stupid you are.
"Far-right is people like you who see politics as a left-right paradigm, and align themselves with what they perceive to be the right."
How is this anything but a tautological definition?
Sarc doesn't understand those words nor is prevalent hypocrisy of his own definition and posts this morning.
"I’m trying to help the guy out..."
Fuck off and die, lying pile of lefty shit.
Take your own advice you wannabe murderer.
Ooh. Bookmarked for next time you claim other people want to murder people. More hypocrisy from you. Amazing.
I'm not the one calling people who vote differently than me (which would be odd since I don't vote) a cancer that needs to be cut out or destroyed. The implications of that are very clear.

I said that you're a lying sack of shit. That's like saying the planet is round. What's your point?
Because you lie about what you said which is basically all you do. Let me put it clearly.

Sure Joe lost at the USSC regarding student loan bailouts, but as sarc always tells us, Joe recognizes the constitution.

To anyone new to the comments, whenever JesseAz invokes my name he is always lying. If he told the truth he’d probably have an aneurism. Truth is that I once pointed out that Biden said something along the lines of “The Constitution says I can’t do that” while Trump said something like “The Constitution says I can do whatever I want.” I was pointing out that at least Biden gives lip-service to the Constitution, while Trump acts like a petulant child. Being the piece of shit liar that he is, JesseAz claims I say this all the time when it’s he who says it all the time, while always ignoring what Trump said.
And what you actually said.

Why wouldn’t there be? Despite all his faults, at least Biden recognizes the Constitution. Can’t say the same about Trump.
Then you spent the rest of the thread rationalizing why words mean more than actions. Lol.
Being the piece of shit liar that he is, JesseAz claims I say this all the time when it’s he who says it all the time
You bring this up on almost every comments section. You're the one who says it all the time.
If I say anything about it it's to clarify after getting tired of your constant lies.
Jesse alternates though. Sometimes he is stupid and sometimes he is just lyiing.
It is difficult to tell when though.
His posting of that meme link is highly ironic.
Cite? I mean just above i show sarc said exactly what I claimed he said.
Are you two really this retarded?
I bring it up as you lie about what you said dumdum.
Instead if admitting what you said was dumb and a lie, you continue to defend it.
What I said is 100% accurate as to what you said and you again LIED about what you said as shown.
Instead if admitting what you said was dumb and a lie, you continue to defend it.
Defend what? I'm not defending what anyone said. Just stating the fact that they said it. That's another one of your dishonest techniques: you accuse anyone who quotes something you don't like of endorsing whatever it is they quoted. That or you're too stupid to know the difference. I can never tell.
You really are stupid. Here is the thread.

He still hasn't figured out the differences between actions and words.
I really don't understand. I quoted what the different politicians said. You accuse me of defending what was said as if I endorsed it. Which I didn't do. Like so many times before you quote your inference as if it is what I said, and then call me a liar when I stand by what I actually said. It's stupid.
I know you've probably been told before, but Trump has a habit of trolling people with what he says, even if he never goes through with the action. He seems to love playing internet troll especially. It can be a double-edged sword at times.
Biden, on the other hand, is a professional liar, having made a career of it in the Senate. He's well known for lying about anything and everything he's ever said or done, or even will do. You can bet that if it escaped his lips, it's a lie.
Do you have no idea how comically obvious it is who you are, Mingo-Mango-Mongo? You must have SOME idea, because i know I've mentioned it to you before.
The giveaway is your extremely thin skin and your hypersensitivity. You have to respond to every single slight, you just can't help yourself.

school boards, a newly released memo shows the Justice Department pressured all U.S. Attorneys Offices to convene meetings with local law enforcement and FBI representatives to address the alleged threat.
.
Notably, the memo gave prosecutor offices a hard deadline and required a report back to Washington after the meeting took place, including a requirement to identify the specific local law enforcement agencies that participated.

https://www.zerohedge.com/technology/fcc-rejects-900-million-subsidy-spacex-amid-concerns-govt-weaponization
The leader of the free world should not be weaponizing the government after his opponents that jeopardize the space race for the country.
But that’s what’s happening, and a lot of people are cool with it.
The weaponization of government agencies against Musk suggests leftist radicals in the White House are terrified of the billionaire’s power and must stop him at any cost – even if that means jeopardizing the nation’s space race.
As I've mentioned before, Musk's Falcon rockets are the reason we're getting our new defense and GPS satellites into space. Unless Biden's handlers have Branson or Bezos on tap to replace him, trying to coerce him into getting Twatter back to being a DNC mouthpiece could backfire on them spectacularly.

Fist, can I buy you an alarm clock for christmas?
My Christmas gift to the commentariat is backing off early commenting.
Sandy, you and other Peanuts got Fetterman wrong.
As late as September 2023, Fetterman’s primary achievement seemed to be lowering the standards for how U.S. senators can dress in the chamber. But even that was an “accomplishment” that lasted only about a week.
.
And then, something changed. As Hot Air’s Beege Welborn noted, after “Fetterman was forced to dress like an adult… He started sounding like one.”
.
“Hamas does not want peace, they want to destroy Israel. We can talk about a ceasefire after Hamas is neutralized,” he tweeted.
.
On Oct. 12, Fetterman took a strong stand against a fellow Democratic senator, tweeting: “Senator [Robert] Menendez should not be a U.S. Senator. He should have been gone long ago. It is time for every one of my colleagues in the Senate to join me in expelling Senator Menendez.”He continued to push against Menendez, calling him “a Senator for Egypt, not New Jersey” on The View, and hiring disgraced former Rep. George Santos to troll Menendez in a Cameo video.
.
And he told fellow Democrats that “it isn’t xenophobic to be concerned about the border.”
.
“Honestly, it’s astonishing,” Fetterman said of the number of illegal border crossings. “And this isn’t a Fox News kind of statistic. This is the government’s,” Fetterman told Politico. “You essentially have Pittsburgh showing up there at the border.”
.
In just two months—from Oct. 7 to Dec. 7—John Fetterman has taken more gutsy stands than many senators do in a career. Simultaneously, he has gone from being someone who was plausibly considered “unfit” for the U.S. Senate, to arguably our most indispensable senator.
https://www.thedailybeast.com/we-need-more-john-fettermans-in-the-senate
Yes, most Senators are mealy-mouth worthless garbage. Fetterman beating that low standard.
Looks like our Soros shill is mad that Fetterman went off message.
Mad? You dumbass. I'm proud of his independence and running against the party grain. The fucker was ditched by everyone.
He is kind of a populist like Fatass Donnie - anti free trade and claims to be for the working stiff. Except he is more authentic than Fatass is.

LOL
According to his defenders, Fetterman began his Senate career unable to comprehend spoken English sentences. Then he was hospitalized so he wouldn't hurt himself.
Being pro-Israel while serving in the Senate takes about as much courage as being anti-Israel while attending college.
I will give him credit for distancing himself from his party's immigration radicalism of the past 5 to 10 years.

President Joe Biden demonstrates I was onto something.
More than once I've mentioned (Democrat) Eric Adams' warnings about the border. Doesn't change the fact that Dems in general are now the loose borders / cheap labor party.

What would you learn if you ran all PhD theses from 1960-2023 through comprehensive plagiarism checking?
1. Our scientists have yet to discover how neural networks create self-consciousness, let alone how the human brain processes two-dimensional retinal images into the three-dimensional phenomenon known as perception. Yet we somehow brazenly declare 'seeing is believing'.
2. What I really saw was the planet Venus.

Where is Andrew Jackson when you need him?
On the 20.
But it’s really a 15.
Soon to be the Jackson 5
And shortly after that, Jackson goes solo.
That would be off the wall inflation.
You're going to need so many 20s just to go to the grocery store that you're going to have to haul them in a tub, man.
Don't stop till you get enough.
It is nice that they waited until inflation was dealt with....oh, they did not? Shocker.

Kind of tells you where their priorities lie.
R's want border money and Israel Spending
D's want Ukraine money and Isreal money
Both want increased military spending and warrantless surveillance
They will compromise and get all 4 four. Bipartisanship will be the death of us all.
I like that it made Texas join forces with California—not Florida...
Well, there are enough California ex-pats in Texas. We'll see how the Florida-New York alliance goes.
"my side has failed to make the case as to why we believe abortion is immoral"
They've made the case just fine. Most abortion fanciers don't care that it's immoral, and will go to ridiculous lengths to deny the biological reality of a fetuses humanity that they don't believe themselves.
It's easy. You just focus on the embryo and ignore the existence of the pregnant woman. Then, the moral question is crystal clear.
How about the fetus? Most abortions are past they embryo stage.
Also, how many women don't realize that the sole biological function of vaginal sex is pregnancy? They could have stuck to oral, done anal, or left it to hand jobs, but they purposely did it in the pooter. And how many of these women had no access to condoms, IUDs or birth control pills?
If they're pregnant, they already made a choice.
Do you live this belief by having sex only with the intention of impregnating your partner?
Do you live by the belief that sex didn't evolve for procreation and that there's no other way to sexually pleasure the other outside of rawdogging?
Do condoms and IUDs not exist in your world? Never heard of handjobs and anal? It always has to be a creampie in the puss?
I'll take that as a "no".
I take it you've never heard of something called the "pill".
How about the fetus? Most abortions are past they embryo stage.
I haven't noticed you correcting anyone who refers to an embryo as a "baby".
Pretty much this.
It isn't that anyone has failed to make the case on why it's immoral, it's that immorality is the new morality.
Which is, ultimately, fine since 'morality' is essentially whatever a majority of people say it is but let us not pretend that people are unaware of the moral implications.
Also, to be fair, the 'its immoral' crowd often rely on religious nonsense instead of rational debate which is a problem. What is perhaps more of a problem is that the people on the other side of the debate pretend the religious arguments are the only arguments being presented which is simply false. They'd rather not hear the humanist or rationalist point of view, so they simply strawman everything into the religious point of view so they don't have to listen.
Yeah this is bullshit. It is vague and ripe for abuse.
Welcome to America:
Yes, our food is trash and we waste a lot of it. Sounds like these "migrants" are fitting right in to me. And some people say they won't assimilate into American culture.
Video (about 11 minutes): "John Money’s monstrous gender experiment."
https://www.spiked-online.com/video/john-moneys-monstrous-gender-experiment/
I've read about that before. Nuts. The experiments pretty much all failed, which should have been taken as strong evidence that biological sex is the primary determinant of gender expression. Yet here we are. Fucking clown world indeed.
The people pushing "gender is only a social construct" have very strong ideological reasons to want to believe that Money's theories were correct. They will not necessarily accept evidence that they are wrong.
The experiments pretty much all failed
This is an understatement. "Pretty much failed" are the detransitioners we see today. People who accept that they've irreparably mutilated themselves but otherwise generally socially function outside either their birth or desired gender norm. They had a disconnect from their biology which persists despite treatment but, at this point, is generally not lethal or debilitating.
Money's experiments were catastrophic failures the way early rocket ships or airplanes would rise and then fall back to the Earth and explode, killing the pilots, members of the ground crew, and passive onlookers.
“Pretty much failed” are the detransitioners we see today.
Being clear, the treatment of them or any disorder they may have. Not them personally.
Tom-ay-toe, Tom-ah-toe.
John Money is one of the more evil people in recent American history. A horrendous monster of an asshole.
You can say that about pretty much any "sexologist," who are generally giving their deviant fetishes the veneer of scientific study.
He's worse than Kinsey as I am not aware of Kinsey driving young people to suicide over his abuse of them as children.

Uh, no, no it wasn't Nate. YOU might have been exposed to it, first by COVID and then Israel, but if you were paying attention, it was going on a LONG time before COVID.
seriously 2008 called, Nate ...
On abortion, the Culture of Death may be in the ascendant while its votaries convince voters it's all about life-threatening problem pregnancies (where, by the way, a doctor's *good-faith* judgments about risk to life or limb should be deferred to).
Their actual purpose is to make it a routine option for mothers to kill their children, even if there's no health risks to them if they have the kid and put him or her up for adoption.
And pro-lifers should emphasize the "seamless garment" (so to speak) of the Culture of Death - Canada's MAID and whatever counterparts we'll develop in the U. S., creating embryos for genetic engineering and killing off the "excess" ones, and who knows what other assaults on innocent life are going to get cooked up.
Letting voters know that the same forces which promote abortion may be "encouraging" them to off themselves when those same voters are old or sick might cause voters to reconsider their position. If not we're *&^%ed.
As for birth control limiting abortions, the Trumpists are full of it. We've had vast increase in "birth control access" but abortion persists.
Until this whole abortion issue was reignited by Dobbs, I had no idea how many upper middle class white women had life-threatening pregnancies. It's an eye-opener.
Reminds me of Fat Rush Limbaugh - who had no idea sluts like Sandra Fluke had to take a birth control pill after each fuck.
God, I miss that stupid motherfucker.
turd lies. That's not a surprise to anyone who reads his constant stream of bullshit.
But it's becoming obvious that as Misek is too stupid to understand the concepts of "evidence" or "relevance", the concept of "honesty" is simply beyond turd's ken.
You do remember that Fat Rush thought that a woman had to take a birth control pill after each fuck? When he called Sandra Fluke a "slut" repeatedly as she testified to Congress?
Goddamn, that fucker grifted you dumbass conservatives.

Fuck off and die, asshole.
The abortion of "Women in STEM" initiatives by existential self-implosion has been astounding to witness.
This is going to sound cynical and possibly conspiratorial, but it's interesting that those who push for abortion up until birth also seem to be those who are in the climate cult, believe men can become women (and vice versa) with sterilization being the result, and also want the population to be about one-sixteenth of what it is currently.
those who push for abortion up until birth
There are no such people.
Let's talk about my fat fuck of a governor, shall we?
https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/governor-jb-pritzker-abortion-rights-law/
Please quote him saying he approves of abortion up until birth.
You're shifting the goalposts (from "push for" to "states approval of") in favor of J.B. Pritzker signing his name in support of partial birth abortions.
You know how this "Tell me you consider yourself to be a worthless clump of cells without saying 'I'm a worthless clump of cells." revealed preferences or 'deeds not words'" thing works, right?
This is as, if not more, retarded than half the shit sarcasmic or chemjeff pulls.
Also, along the same lines as the "The walls are closing in!" vs. "The walls are closing in?" horseshit above. Where's the pro-life analogue of Kermit Gosnell who chained women to a wall immediately after conception and until birth losing a few of them in the process? Where are the advocates openly calling for looser laws so that more women can be chained up and that the process of restrained birth is more generally accepted?
It's the same Black Lives Matter vs. All Lives Matter, defend speech I approve of vs. defend free speech, 'laws for the but not for me' bullshit.
There are no such people.
Kermit Gosnell was convicted of doing that very thing.
New Mexico and Colorado's abortion laws also allow abortion up until the infant's feet complete the magic birth canal trip.
Which doesn't happen, and won't, and would not be supported by anyone.
Other sources say otherwise.
https://thehill.com/opinion/healthcare/4182865-yes-late-term-abortions-are-real-and-they-happen-every-day/
"Late term" is not the same as "abortion up until birth".
That's a distinction without a difference.
Words mean stuff.
Which doesn’t happen, and won’t, and would not be supported by anyone.
If it wasn't supported, the legislation wouldn't have passed in the first place.
And, again, where are the equivalent pro-lifers that are chaining women to walls immediately after conception, accumulating 47+ victims, and having people like Vernone Derpner deflect with "Nuh, uh, doesn't happen!" on their behalf?
Much like the idiocy about "Transgender rights is just about bathroom access", we've got people being arrested and prosecuted for between literally nothing and praying outside of abortion clinics while the law defends partial birth abortions and feminists like Elizabeth "See? No bodies in the delousing chambers!" Nolan Brown push the standards down such that the coathanger abortions they themselves fear become the legal standard of (covered) medical care.
Yeah there are.
I believe one was interviewed here on Reason.
I'm also too lazy to look it up, but I seem to remember a poll between Republicans and Democrats on their abortion belief. If I recall the results, 16% of Republicans believed abortion should be illegal in all cases. 30% of Democrats believed that abortion should be legal in ALL cases, up to the moment the clump of cells travels down the birth canal at the end of the 9th month.
I remember asking in the comments: Wait, which party is full of extremists?
"birth control access" is another classic shitlib canard.
Everyone has access to free unlimited birth control in this country.
They do? Well I suppose if you consider "abstinence" as birth control...
unlimited free condoms are available to anyone who wants them.
unlimited free birth control pills to anyone on state funded health insurance plans.
Not to mention, if you can't, as a human, exercise some personal birth control, why should anyone around you be expected to exercise some trigger or ice pick control? We're all just clumps of cells, right?
personal birth control
As in "don't stick it in crazy" or "don't open my legs for crazy". And fuck the rape/incest argument, if there are 50K rapes and incest pregnancies happening every year, we sure as fuck shouldn't be conflating that bullshit with some feminist studies barista who wants to sleep with every male feminist who show up to her counter, but can't afford a kid until her book career takes off.
Have you ever heard of this thing called a condom?
And have you heard how they even put them in dormitory bathrooms to be used, for free?
They do? Well I suppose if you consider “abstinence” as birth control…
Seven states allow for abortion on demand up until the infant is completely out of the magic birth canal. That's one reason that "partial birth abortion" bills were so controversial, because the doctor would partially emerge the infant out of the magic birth canal and cut the spinal cord.
Is it not?
Is not having sex not a form of family planning?
Not if you expect that family to include a spouse.
“A New York Times investigation found that, over a three-week period, the city wasted 70,000 meals intended to go toward migrants.”
But somebody is getting paid, so it’s all good.
Think of all those meals saved when Cuomo (D) downsized nursing home populations during covid.
I'm not sure what shocks me more... that there's this much government waste going on, or that a Reason writer is writing about Migrants and cost in the same sentence.
"received a $432 million contract to provide services for migrants at taxpayers’ expense. The contract stipulates that each meal is worth roughly $11, so the total amount of money wasted comes out to about $776,000."
Take it in context. Overall, about 1/3 of all the food produced by humans on the planet ends up uneaten, going to waste. Something like 60 million tons of food each year in the US alone. DocGo, by comparison is doing remarkably well.
There's an assumption that its waste though.
The assumption is that these people won't eat the food because its genuinely unfit for consumption.
But there's plenty of evidence that these people just demand more and better because they know they will get it - not that they need it.
It's less clear that this one will pass, as the border-securing provisions have been a significant source of debate.
The eleventy billion dollar spending bill to foment wars and death all around the world is fine but if a small portion of that is used to enforce the US border, then no, its unacceptable.
A24 civil war, alrighty then
This is obviously going to be a shitlib fever dream piece of crap.
I also love how it's just a given that the remaining central american government will kill anyone who tries to leave the club.
See “The Civil War”. Lots of killings when the Southern states decided to leave.

The Nate Silver article is quite good, worth a read.
He posits that the Hayekian triangle between Socialists, Conservatives, and Liberals ought to be replaced in the modern era with "Wokist Leftists", "MAGA Conservatives", and "Liberals". Given those three choices, I would hope that most of us would choose option #3.
you tend to pretty much always land on the same argument as wokist leftists and defend their position, so why would you think that you would land in camp 3?
But that is not true.
The wokist leftist would view the world in terms of identity and make decisions based on that.
The MAGA conservative would deny that identity is even an important consideration upon which to make an important decision.
I, on the other hand, would acknowledge that identity is perhaps an important factor, and it may sometimes be valuable to take into consideration when making a decision, but it shouldn't be the most overriding concern the way it would be to a wokist leftist, individual liberty ought to be the overriding concern.
But because I don't condemn the concept fully, you don't make any distinction between my view and the woke left. That is your problem, not mine.
Can you explain why identity should matter at all?
You wouldn't think a radical indvidualist would care about identity.
You keep defending identity politics though.
This means you're far right according to sarc since you noticed.
Has he defined far right yet?
Buttplug and creamjeff won't either.
"creamjeff"
- gross
“Far-right is people like you who see politics as a left-right paradigm, and align themselves with what they perceive to be the right.”
That was sarc's definition of far right.
What about Woke Conservatives?
I know many of the Peanuts get all worked up if one of their blaek Republicans is criticized.
I agree that there are Woke Conservatives, who view the world in terms of identity - they just tend not to recognize it as such. Their identity is "white Christian American", and it is just the normative default state, no need to give it a separate label like "identity".
Actually I know that they don't care about the black man. It is just Cult Loyalty they maintain.
The only "good" ones are Trumpers - saith the Cultist.

turd always lies. That's not a surprise to anyone who reads his constant stream of bullshit.
But it's becoming obvious that as Misek is too stupid to understand the concepts of "evidence" or "relevance", the concept of "honesty" is simply beyond turd's ken.
"Actually I know that they don’t care about the black man."
But the guy who calls black politicians and supreme court justices "lawn jockeys", he cares.
We do not mind criticizing black conservatives.
Your Step'n'Fetchit routine with them gets exceptionally old.
The GOPe indeed has woke members of their party. They are constantly criticized here. Did you have a point shrike?
turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat lies. turd lies when he knows he’s lying. turd lies when we know he’s lying. turd lies when he knows that we know he’s lying.
turd lies. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit and a pederast besides
What about people who say "Fuck labels, my values are my own and I'm not trying to graph them onto some social construct?"
Sounds pretty far-right to me!
I agree the article is generally good. But.
The problem with that article is that that triangle is framed as an electoral choice. There is no triangle in a bipolar electoral system. The bipolar electoral choices serve more to suppress triangular thinking than to accommodate differing perspectives in some big tent. Hayekians who vote R (or D) become less Hayekian over time. They don't help turn R's or D's more Hayekian.
Obviously Silver writes about electoral politics so that's the reason he prioritizes what he does. I would have been more interested in an article that focuses on how academia can become more independent of external pressures (whether woke ideology or US govt foreign policy or BigDonors attempting to threaten universities/students). But that would be a different author.
can I just be not in a group?
The Nate Silver article is quite good, worth a read.
No, it's smug shitlib selfcongratulation WOW THE LIBS ARE NOT LIBS! THEY HATE FREE SPEECH! DID YOU REALIZE THAT? it's not particularly insightful or enlightening to be honest.
Why? Liberals don't exist.

What would you learn if you ran all PhD theses from 1960-2023 through comprehensive plagiarism checking?
is this attempting to excuse Harvard President Rog?
"Copying from one source is plagiarism. Copying from two or more sources is research."
if I knew I could be President of Harvard I would have Soul Manned much harder.
Yes, unequivocally. Robby's co-host on that Rising show he does insisted that nothing can be done until they test every other professor at every other university to see how much they've plagiarized.

That whole show is Robby gradually losing his sanity because he's confronted by weird collectivist nonsense.
think it might be fun to take it on every week head first but it's not my show
Its hard to watch at times. He also tiptoes around some topics because he knows she will go batshit about it, when he really should just be dunking on her, she is straight up retarded.
The other day I think she made the mistake of asking him for more examples of college censorship (assuming he didn't have any more) and then the following day he did a monologue hitting her with example after example. This is what he should be doing allthe time. She is a low watt prog, she is meant to be dunked on

Needs to be done before they become 'daddies'.

my side has failed to make the case as to why we believe abortion is immoral
No, you have presented that case clearly and ad nauseam. The majority of Americans understand your belief and disagree. That's mainly because your belief focuses on alleged "rights" of embryos and ignores the right of self-ownership of pregnant women.
Just like they rejected mandating vaccines to work for an employer with more than 50 employees, right?
Do you think we were all asleep for the mask and jab mandates?
The majority of Americans understand your belief and disagree.
Can I just insert one little uncomfortable factoid wrt "the majority of Americans disagree"?
Yes, this has been shows 92.5 ways from Sunday, that 75% of Americans agree that abortion should be banned after 15 weeks.
Or, as Reason and most msm orgs put it, 75% of Americans believe in a right to abortion *cough* with limits.
So the question then becomes, why are 75% of Americans uncomfortable with abortion after a certain point in the pregnancy-- mostly after the first trimester? There might be a general belief about morality and something something rights even though it's still inside the mother.
But it doesn't ignore the duty of care you take on when you engage in activity that is known to have a high likelihood of creating a new person.
Yes, the fetophiles claim that for a woman to have sex constitutes some sort of contract with someone who doesn't exist to turn over control of her body to this theoretical disembodied person to create a body for them. Or something like that. Makes no sense to me.
Makes no sense to me.
Wow, even chemjeff and sarcasmic tend to win the fights with their straw men. You really are bad at this.
>>I like that it made Texas join forces with California—not Florida—ostensibly to make it seem less inflammatory:
Texas --> California more valuable than Texas --> Florida in a post civil-war game. mho
Are we talking a strictly US post civil war game or more of a Risk situation where foreign involvement and control over either side of the Gulf would play a critical role?
Because, AFAICT, strategically, California itself is, by-and-large, a liability.
California itself is, by-and-large, a liability
Hell look at COVID or the Twitter files or Disney or the 2018 wildfires. California is a liability to itself in peacetime.
"The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout 'SAVE US!'...and I'll look down and whisper 'No.”
more like Risk. direct attachment to Central & South America etc.
"...as well as how laws ought to be diligently crafted to ensure physicians aren't operating in legal limbo."
Asking state legislators to write a law with clear, precise language is like asking a group of howler monkeys to write a sonnet.
"f, consistent voter backlash to abortion restrictions has"
But, is there any real voter backlash in states that have banned or strictly limited abortion?
A case going to trial every once in a while doesn't really count as a backlash - *some* people do oppose those restrictions, obviously, but are they making a reall fuss about it in ways that really matter (ie, voting)? I don't think so.
And this case and the misprofestone case are the normal stuff you would expect in this situation - edge cases testing where the limits of the new legal regime are.
Denying a medically necessary abortion when the abortion restrictionists have consistently insisted that wouldn't happen is hardly an "edge case". It reveals that a core tenet of their arguments was disingenuous, which will have real consequences for pregnant women in need of abortion.
"DocGo, a medical services company (with a CEO embroiled in scandal), received a $432 million contract to provide services for migrants at taxpayers' expense. The contract stipulates that each meal is worth roughly $11, so the total amount of money wasted comes out to about $776,000. Over the course of a full month, that's more than a million dollars.
"Look how they're throwing out the food, because nobody eats it," said one Venezuelan migrant in a video. "This food is pure trash.""
This really doesn't mean anything.
I can tell you from my own experience across the Mexican border during the Trump administration (where asylum seekers were required to stay in Mexico) that the immigrants there were bitching when the Mexicans tried to feed them - they didn't like the food either. And the Mexicans were like 'well, fuck you mate - this is what *we* eat!'
So these meals could be just fine - but a lot of these guys were told that America was a paradise and they'd get everything and they're pissed they're getting nothing.
"I generally like A24, but this looks bad. I like that it made Texas join forces with California—not Florida—ostensibly to make it seem less inflammatory:"
Here's how the real civil war goes.
1. Texas and Arizona join forces to invade New Mexico to get rid of the Blue state in between and secure their rear.
2. Then they start fighting each other over who is more Christian and/or libertarian and how many Mexicans are too many.
3. Then the cartels invade and it all turns to shit.
Sounds like you're giving A24 a real run for their money in the "Worse than either Red Dawn (2012) or The Hunt (2020)" category.
somebody should definitely be turned over to the Soviets for that 2012 Red Dawn nonsense
Which Soviets? AOC and company; the Bernie Bros; the DNC? The original Soviets are long gone.
But we're already at stage 3.
That’s when the whores come in.
