Brickbat: Don't Carry On

Canada's ruling Liberal-NDP coalition has introduced a bill in Parliament that would ban firms in federally regulated industries, such as banking and telecommunications, from bringing in replacement workers during a strike. The bill would require the firm and the union to negotiate which services can continue ahead of a strike. If they can't reach an agreement, the Canadian Industrial Relations Board would make that decision. The bill does not apply to federal public service workers.

Another step towards the Great White North's workers paradise.
I’am making over $20k a month working online. I kept seeing how some people are able to earn a lot of money online, so I decided to look into it. I had luck to stumble upon something that totally changed my life. After 2 months of searching, last month I received a paycheck for $19683 for just working on the laptop for a few hours weekly. And best thing is..It’s so Easy…

Labor peace!
The bill does not apply to federal public service workers.
I did not see that coming.
Any law that exempts the lawmakers is evidence of corruption.
When several fancy lad snowflakes decide to assemble and go on strike, the Canadian government should stay out of it. If the employer wants to replace those wokers, permanently, then that’s fine. Those previously employed should learn to code.
Trade unionism only works effectively if the government props it up.
Those trade unions shut down my favorite bottled water company in Quebec. Je me souviens Eau Canada.
"The bill would require the firm and the union to negotiate which services can continue ahead of a strike."
This how to ban scabs without outright banning scabs. A strike represents a breakdown in negotiations. In terms of labor-management relations, it is going to war. The union has no incentive to allow any services to continue, and if the company and the union could negotiate such things, there would not be a strike. It is a fundamentally dishonest piece of legislation, rather par for the course for Trudeau's government.
Also, if two sides are about to get to the point of a strike, they don't need the distraction of something *else* to negotiate during that critical period.
It’s rather transparently to insert CIRB into the issue on the sly (sooner). “Either you resolve the strike before we find out about it or we will.”
Does it really surprise anyone that, among other things, trans-provincial trucking is a federally-regulated industry?
Not really. So is interstate trucking here in the US.
Trudeau is about as popular as Biden is, but without any sympathy afforded to dementia patients. He’s poised to lose the next election in a landslide.
If they can't reach an agreement, the Canadian Industrial Relations Board would make that decision.
Agree to disagree... or else.
Because the Canadian Industrial Relations Board knows more about their business than they do.
I don't know about Canadian labor relations law...can a union just call a strike whenever it wants, or are preconditions and preliminary steps required first?
Remember when Carry On was the spirit of Londoners during the Blitz, when the UK was fighting actual Nazis, and dying from actual bombs? Can you imagine any British, or American, snowflakes being able to face the same challenges today?
The can't even avoid fucking up the "Keep Calm" part.
It's like they don't even understand what striking is or what it's intended to do.
"Which services can continue?" Um. None of them. At which point the market responds. If the banks are shut down, the account holders might start getting real pissed at the bankers - and encourage them to give better terms to their staff. If Hollywood is shut for a year, and nobody misses them - then screw them and their demands.
Collective bargaining comes with its risks. The biggest one being finding out just how necessary you and all your friends really ARE to the business.
Are there any Canadian federally un-regulated industries?
