Tucker Carlson Is Lying to You
But hey—you might just like it!

On Tuesday night, the man who was until last month the most popular cable news host in the country told a Twitter audience of 122 million viewers and counting that, "at the most basic level, the news you consume is a lie—a lie of the stealthiest and most insidious kind."
Then Tucker Carlson told a revealing lie of his own: "The best you can hope for in the news business at this point is the freedom to tell the fullest truth that you can. But there are always limits. And you know that if you bump up against those limits often enough, you will be fired for it. That's not a guess—it's guaranteed. Every person who works in English language media understands that. The rule of what you can't say defines everything. It's filthy, really. And it's utterly corrupting."
Italics mine, to hone in on the most utterly disprovable section of the untruth. I have worked in English language media even longer than Carlson has, and I "understand" nothing like the totalizing constraints he describes, nor would a significant percentage of the people I have worked with. The editorial direction (not quite a set of "limits") at an opinion magazine such as Reason, for example, tends to be tethered to a political/ideological/philosophical point of view, with content mutually understood by employer and employee alike to fit within a publicly stated organizational mission, and yet, I have for two decades felt perfectly free to explore out loud some of my least libertarian notions (including one, ironically enough, that was influenced directly by Tucker Carlson).
Reason may be on the tolerant extreme of the open-debate spectrum, but I was similarly untroubled by the specter of editorial no-fly zones at the Los Angeles Times, a newspaper that hired me after I had written a series of "Outside the Tent" columns criticizing…the Los Angeles Times. (That institutional courage to solicit internal criticism was not shared by Carlson at his own The Daily Caller: Blogger Mickey Kaus resigned from the conservative publication in 2015 after a post of his critical of Fox News was deleted on the grounds that, in Carlson's words, as quoted by Kaus: "We can't trash Fox on the site. I work there.")
As the Caller example indicates, the "rule of what you can't say" is often self-imposed, for reasons that can have more to do with narrow careerism than some broader globalist plot. As such, breaking free from presumed shackles is often as easy as just blurting out the allegedly verboten thing—not unlike Tucker Carlson's often interesting, often exasperating television program these past seven years.
But the populist trick and conceit, one that Carlson is already ratcheting up in his new Twitter phase, is to not merely say the forbidden truth but to do so while, improbably enough, claiming that you cannot do so.
"This is another third rail in American politics: You're not allowed to note that our buildings are grotesque and dehumanizing," Carlson stated while praising Hungary's nationalist architecture in 2021. "This is a nationwide epidemic and everyone is too embarrassed to mention it. You're not allowed to say so," Carlson said in 2020 about giving trans kids puberty blockers. The notion that "death is inevitable," he claimed in 2020, "may be the one thing you're not allowed to say in this country, but it's still true."
These examples may border on the absurd, but the you-can't-say-that framing resonates precisely because it's true, or at least feels ominously plausible to viewers who aren't multi-millionaire television broadcasters and worry about suffering life-altering consequences for expressing transgressive political or cultural opinions. Carlson, much like Donald Trump, consoles people by recognizing their discomfort at holding values contrary to those of cultural elites, flatters them by calling them "normal," and then stokes their paranoia with absolutist statements about the monolithic malevolents controlling their world.
"You are being manipulated," Carlson warned in his Twitter video this week. The news media is "misleading you…in every story that matters, every day of the week, every week of the year."
Thirty years ago, the main conservative critique of the mainstream media was that it was biased. Twenty or so years ago, bias had escalated into pursuing an active agenda. Now, that agenda has managed to become an all-encompassing yet secretive transpartisan snow job.
"The undeniably big topics, the ones that will define our future, get virtually no discussion at all," Carlson postulated in his first Twitter video after being fired. "War, civil liberties, emerging science, demographic change, corporate power, natural resources. When was the last time you heard a legitimate debate about any of those issues? It's been a long time. Debates like that are not permitted in American media. Both political parties, and their donors, have reached consensus about what benefits them, and they actively collude to shut down any conversation about it. Suddenly the United States looks very much like a one-party state."
This seems like a good place to point out that the May issue of Reason includes debates about war, civil liberties, emerging science, demographic change, and so forth. And I'm guessing that anyone who truly believes there are no meaningful differences between the two main political parties in the U.S. did not have children attending public school during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Carlson's fans, including some (masochistic?) libertarians, surely do not care that his hyperbole crosses so frequently into fantasia; what matters is that he (again, like Trump) has the right enemies—the media, the wokes, the Pentagon, Big Pharma. If the journalism profession is going to go on a "moral clarity" bender of ever-escalating pejoratives for conservatives, aggressive "deplatforming" even of elected Republicans, and enthusiastic collusion with the censorious state, what's wrong with a little overstatement from a commentator who rightly pushes back?
Well, once you start taking seriously the idea that some puppet master or single-minded Borg is inflicting intentional wickedness on Everyman for personal profit, then all intellectual bets are off. Conservative New York Times columnist Ross Douthat offered this ideological shorthand soon after Carlson was fired: "For any idea with an establishment imprimatur, absolute suspicion; for any outsider or skeptic, sympathy and trust. It didn't have to be political or contemporary, either. The U.F.O. mystery? He was there for it. The Kennedy assassination and the C.I.A.? He had questions."
Carlson these days is frequently going there, whether in sympathetic interviews with the similarly conspiratorial Robert Kennedy Jr., or just musing aloud about Building 7, all while striking the classic populist pose of betraying his class interest by spilling the insidery beans.
"I've spent my whole life in the media. My dad was in the media," he told the Full Send podcast in March. "A big part of the revelation that has changed my life is the media are part of the control apparatus….And for too long, I participated in the culture where anyone who thinks outside these pre-prescribed lanes is crazy, is a 'conspiracy theorist.'"
Controlling the population is the media's "only purpose," Carlson continued. "They're not here to inform you….Even on the big things that really matter, like the economy and the war and COVID, things that really matter and will affect you—no, their job is not to inform you. They're working for the small group of people who actually run the world. They're their servants, they're the Praetorian Guard. And we should treat them with maximum contempt, because they have earned it."
Carlson may not want to control the population, but what he offers as a replacement sounds a lot like passive consumption of a commiserative message…from Tucker Carlson. "Where can you still find Americans saying true things?" he asked in his first post-show Twitter video. "There aren't many places left, but there are some, and that's enough. As long as you can hear the words, there is hope."
And now, having earned scores of millions of dollars from corporate media, Carlson is ready to burn it all down from the outside.
"The gatekeepers are still in charge," he lamented in his video Tuesday. "We think that's a bad system. We know exactly how it works, and we're sick of it….There aren't many platforms left that allow free speech. The last big one remaining in the world, the only one, is Twitter."

Thirty years ago, the main conservative critique of the mainstream media was that it was biased. Twenty or so years ago, bias had escalated into pursuing an active agenda. Now, that agenda has managed to become an all-encompassing yet secretive transpartisan snow job.
All true. The news media are biased, have an agenda, and are engaging in a snow job against the American People. This goes for the right-wing, as well as the left-wing, media. There is no objective journalism. Every journalist/reporter has an agenda to advance particular political and social views. This has always been the case, but in the 20th Century the news media started dishonestly claiming they were objective. They weren't objective then and they aren't now.
Bullshit. Right-wing media is nothing but a flow of conspiratorial garbage.
Even when Fox News briefly interrupted that flow to accurately call Arizona and Georgia for Biden (thus the election) they were pilloried by the gutter-trash conservative masses.
Right-wing media is nothing but a flow of conspiratorial garbage.
But Left-wing media is pure as the driven snow. [/sarc]
Many-many right-wing gutter-snipes PISS AND MOAN oh so loudly about how social media "censors" them... And then proceed to practice THEIR version of censorshit via Faux News etc.! If the TRUTH reduces ratings at Faux News... Fucker Carlshit etc. may NOT speak the truth! If the LIES increase ratings at Faux News... Fucker Carlshit etc. MUST speak the lies, especially about how that them thar Lizard People STOLE Donald's erections!!! Even when Fucker Carlshit Himself does NOT believe said lies! YE conservatards with YOUR taste for lies (cravenly caved into, by Faux News) are at the ROOT of the blame! "Tell me the lies that I want to hear", ye evil lie-seeking fuckers!

The coprolalia that sets squirrels free is seldom the one editors want to hear.
Donald Trump is God's chosen one.
He is Christ Reborn and he will be once again Elected our President.
He will be the first 3 term president in American history.
We are returning America to it's God centric place as God's chosen homeland for the Superior White Race.
Possibly the most pathetic cry for help i've ever read.
Bah. Most "right-wingers" I know see "Faux" News as biased towards the left, but at least tolerates stuff from the right. They see the rest of the Media outright liars and stooges for the "elites" -- in short, useful idiots speaking for idiots with delusions of grandeur.
Left wing media lied about russiagate, the pee tape, bountygate, trumps making money from being president, white supremacists are good people. find the false and a lot of other things about Trump, plus Hunters laptop was Russian disinformation. All proven fault, all retracted.
I have not seen right wing media lying like that about Biden, but for any broadcast media I only watch Newsmax, and then for only an hour a day. Yes they may paint Biden as having a lot of cognitive problems, but if you watch Biden, I would have to say that is true.
On a comparison basis the right is way less partisan than the left, which is mostly outright lying. I include Reason in that as they seldom criticize the left, while salivating at any chance to go after the right.
Cable channels are not broadcast.
According to my browser AI, cable and broadcast media are licensed by pretty much the same governmental agencies.
…… and George Soros is a freedom loving philanthropist.
"Bullshit. Right-wing media is nothing but a flow of conspiratorial garbage."
OH NO! How awful.
Maybe give us a concrete example that was definitively proven false? Just an example, I won't make you hunt for a citation.
That them thar Lizard People STOLE Donald’s erections!!! (Just for starters).

Sidney Powell Says She’s Not Guilty of Defamation Because ‘No Reasonable Person’ Would Have Believed Her ‘Outlandish’ Election Conspiracy Theory
Which particular lies are you wanting to hear and believe today, hyper-partisan Wonder Child?
Concrete example, not innuendo, Shillsy.
I know that they're the same thing to you, but...
Also, Sidney Powell isn't the media.
Sidney Powell told lies and the media reported her lies to us. So what's the big difference here? What percentage of what the media tells us is EDITORIALS BY THE MEDIA V/S the media telling us WHAT OTHER PEOPLE SAID AND DID? Editorials = = rather small, if Ye are data-driven and honest... Which, of course, Ye are SNOT!
Sidney Powell is a lawyer, not the media.
Here's what Tucker Carlson said about her:
“Sidney Powell is lying,” Carlson told a Fox News producer in a Nov. 16, 2020, exchange before using expletives to describe Powell, an attorney representing Trump.
“You keep telling our viewers that millions of votes were changed by the software. I hope you will prove that very soon,” Carlson wrote to Powell a day later. “You’ve convinced them that Trump will win. If you don’t have conclusive evidence of fraud at that scale, it’s a cruel and reckless thing to keep saying.” There was no indication that Powell replied.
Fox attorneys noted that Carlson repeatedly questioned Powell’s claims in his broadcasts: “When we kept pressing, she got angry and told us to stop contacting her,” Carlson told viewers on Nov. 19, 2020.
Carlson told his audience that he had taken Powell seriously, but that she had never provided any evidence or demonstrated that the software Dominion used siphoned votes from Trump to Biden.
Carlson continued to trash Powell and Trump's legal team in a Nov. 23, 2020, text exchange with fellow Fox host Laura Ingraham and also bemoaned what he considered the president’s passivity in the face of the two Georgia runoffs."

The opposite of what you just claimed, Shillsy.
And just exactly WHY did Faux News NOT tell us that Sidney was lying... AT THE TIME THAT SHE WAS TELLING HER LIES?!?!? If the TRUTH reduces ratings at Faux News… Fucker Carlshit would tell us the LIES needed to get the ratings up! Just like I wrote!
"Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies", say the lies-lusting power-pig conservaturd listeners... And Faux News humored them, for fear the Alex Jones would steal their debased fan base!
Everything you just typed is a lie contradicted by the ABC News article in the comment you're replying to.
If you had read it instead of spazzing out, you may have saved yourself some embarrassment and looked less like a shill.
Your citations fell off! Also, when You DO make Your Perfect Citations, They are almost always ‘A) To the likes of Alex Jones ass a source, or ‘B) Some scientific-sounding source whose contents do NOT even back up Your Perfect Bullshit, or ‘C) Some long-winded vast and nebulous source, and You expect Your humble readers to wade through ALL of that shit, just to find out that You were lying anyway!
Here, Omniscient Wonder Child, read through all of these papers… https://www.researchgate.net/ … And see where it says that “Marxist Mammary-Necrophilia-Fuhrer is a Perfectly Evil Liar!”
Straight from YOUR cited source, hyper-partisan Perfect Liar!
"Fox viewers were outraged when the network called Arizona for Joe Biden on election night, a race call that was accurate. Fox executives and hosts began to worry about ratings as many of those viewers fled to other conservative outlets."
Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies, or I will take my eyes and ears, and YOUR advertising revenue elsewhere, said the spoiled lies-lusting brats, and Faux News listened and obeyed!
I love how the 'most secure election ever' crowd still has absolutely no proven record (or even cares to look for it) on why mail-in voting contradicted in-person sometimes as bad as 90%.
Instead of explaining the situation at hand; seems the only thing they want to do is point fingers of blame/deflection in order to lock in a consensus of BS.
Sidney Powell is beloved of God, and as a Christian in support of Donald Trump - who is Christ Reborn - she is doing God's good work.
America's destiny is as a homeland for the Superior White Race.
All those who oppose God are destined to spend eternity burning in eternal hellfire.
This is Holy war.

The Lord Trump didn’t return to us as scheduled, but the Second Coming is now re-scheduled. You can TRUST us THIS time, for sure!
The Lord Trump DID return to us faithful ones, but He did it in an invisible way! Hold strong in your Faith in Him!
The Lord Trump didn’t return to us yet, this is true! It only did NOT happen because YOU were not faithful enough, and didn’t send Him enough donations!
The Lord Trump didn’t return to us yet, but He DID miraculously protect us all from the VERY worst forces of Evil, which is Der BidenFuhrer! Hold fast in your Faith… Lord Trump will come back VERY soon now! Especially if you send Him more money!
The Lord Trump moves in Mysterious Ways! All will be revealed SOON! Especially if you have Enough Faith to DONATE till it HURTS!
What’s funny is the majority of conservatives don’t think this way.
It’s the majority of the “Climate Religion” nutjobs PROJECTING their love of politicized religion onto anyone but themselves.
If their is but one personal trait most prominent amongst leftards it is their ability to PROJECT everything they are (and are doing) onto everyone around them.
I love that this article is about Tucker Carlson and the sole example you can give is a person that Carlson has specifically called a liar and untrustworthy
Oh! OH! I know!
"COVID came from a lab in WUHAN?! It came from this place that supposedly "studies and manipulates SARS Coronaviruses" or some stupid crank conspiracy shit. In the town that COVID first surfaced...
I know, crazy schizo tin foil hat stuff right?! Can you imagine anyone thinks that is true and doesn't believe the settled science, cited by our leader Dr. Fauci, that GOF research had nothing to do with it and it just popped up naturally from a bunch of backwards slack jawed chinks eating bat soup in the wet market?! What a bunch of fools, I am glad I have the NYT, Wapo, and CNN to tell me daily what settled science the right-thinkers know is true...
So anyways, let me tell you how the earth is going to cease to exist in a decade because cows fart too much..."
Hi Mike, If you're Mike the pilot you know me too. Yes, most of the media is in the bag and they no longer care that we know it. The Left is having their run for a while - lots of misery and destruction will follow as history tells us. There are so many childish comments here I was getting exhausted hitting mute and about to close it up - then recognized your name.

turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.
If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit.
Lying in defense of Libertarianism, Conservatism, or Christianity is no crime and it is no offense in the eye's of God.
Death to Commie Liberalism.
Trump Russia collusion of the 2016 election? Were they conspiratorial on that? That lie was propagated by left of center media (CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, etc.) for 4 years or more. But, you're right SPBP, not a snow job. The rebuttal of that narrative was right-wing conspiratorial garbage, right...
The hope that one source of media would provide balanced objective information about any issue is gone. It never really existed.
Information has always been too valuable to share with everyone.
While we can and should criminalize lying, there is no way to force corrupt people to provide complete balanced information.
Technology provides what we need as long as we let it.
The future of communication of news information resides in websites like this one who place a subject on a podium, take a shot at explaining it, then give everyone else an opportunity to add clarity from their perspective. Through the process of intelligent debate the lies are exposed and discredited while only the truth remains untouchable.
Websites with large readership censor or don’t allow any comments because selling propaganda to bigots is too lucrative to allow debate to discredit it.
I didn’t think I’d see Roe vs Wade overturned in my lifetime either so at least I have renewed hope.
Who knows? Maybe you’ll live long enough to realize your dream of seeing Hitler’s brain pit in the body of a great white shark.
Matt Welch: congrats you sell out fag. You’re worse than Tucker. How could you have pulled that off with all your nothing to say?
Tucker may be lying to us, but I’ll take a right wing Christian (ugh) over some no name shill trying to persuade people that what they’ve been watching for the last 30 years isn’t really happening.
Matt Welch dumb af. And a cheap whore too. Find some oncoming traffic to play in.
I really don't disagree-there's a lot of people out there who are grifting to greater or lesser extents. If you want to put it charitably, they're just playing to their audience, saying things their audience wants to hear. Tucker is extremely popular, and while I don't watch him, I certainly believe he engages in this. I can't tell you the degree, though.
I do find it weird that you don't see these same kind of hit pieces against serial liars on the other side, though. Nothing like this about Anderson Cooper, and very rarely does Reason bother looking into the insane things Joy Reid sometimes says. They certainly don't write pieces entirely about how Joy Reid is a liar when they do call her out. They've tiptoed around other insidious liars like Nikole Hannah-Jones, calling her "controversial" or suggesting that her claims are "problematic."
I'm not opposed to hard-hitting attacks like this on demonstrable lies from liars. I actually want more of them. I don't care about the sides-feel free to go after Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham. If you've got Glenn Greenwald being blatantly dishonest, go after him too, and don't soft-pedal it. Just, ya know, try to balance it out a little bit.
Yeah, it’s not like Tucker Carlson has been in the news lately in a big way. Total mystery why Welch would be talking about him at this time.
If they report on a Republican who is in the news, and they don't dig into the past to find an instance of some Democrat doing something somewhat similar at some point in time, then they're maliciously targeting Republicans.
Feel free to dig into the archives and find me the equivalent of this for the left. I'll wait.
Show me where Anderson Cooper or the like made international news for knowingly promoting a fake story to stoke political hatred resulting in their employer being successfully sued for hundreds of millions of dollars.
I'm sure you can find hundreds of examples of things like that in the news that were deliberately ignored by Reason.
I’ll wait.
Nick Sandmann.
Then there was Russiagate, Covidgate,etc,etc
What did Tucker Carlson do to get successfully sued, you blithering idiot? He debunked the Dominion story.
Hi remember when CNN got caught using a green screen during the gulf war?
Not only do all mainstream media outlets promote disinformation and a (pretty obvious) political agenda, they’ve been doing it for at least 35 years.
Also, operation mockingbird. Just saying.
https://www.businessinsider.com/tucker-carlson-told-sidney-powell-her-election-claims-cruel-reckless-2023-3
Pretty much every host on MSNBC pushed the Steele Dossier as fact, even long after it’s been known that it was bought and paid for by the Hillary Campaign. One of their hosts was recently in the news at the same time Carlson was. Don something or other.
Nick Sandman got paid how much again? By CNN and NBC wasn't it? Gee, should be plenty of stories about their hosts from that rather recent event.
Trump russia for 3+ years retard.
Name a lefty commentator who did anything interesting enough to be a major topic of discussion, and then I’ll go look for Reason commentary on that person.
And the big, interesting thing about Tucker is that he got fired. But it's not like anyone at CNN or MSNBC ever got fired, heavens no. That would be way too interesting.
Do your arms ever get tired from all the water you're trying to carry?
It's a religious obligation for Mike. His faith makes the burden light.
That’s a long-winded way of saying you’ve come up with nuthin’.
No, Tucker is in the news because Fox lost a huge sum of money.
I’ll repeat my ask: “ Name a lefty commentator who did anything interesting enough to be a major topic of discussion”
Is it because there isn't or because it doesn't get covered? Can you even allow for the possibility of the latter? Once again you show your bias.
Tucker was the only one on Fox to call out Powell on her Kraken theory on air.
But now we are supposed to believe he is the one who cost them?
It’s trendy!
Right. And Don Lemon has never been in the news, at all, which is Reason has never written such a targeted piece on him.
Did you bother to do a search before making that comment. They have actually talked about Don Lemon quite a few times over the years.
So, your real compliant is Matt Welch said negative things about Tucker Carlson.
No the real complaint is that Matt Welch is so sour grapes about Tucker Carlson that he has to pretend the media don't lie every stinking day.
Cite?
You can google it yourself. I would but I’m headed for bed in a few minutes.
Best joke of the day!
Good morning. Here’s just one example of Reason criticizing Don Lemon:
https://reason.com/2020/04/22/coronavirus-restrictions-that-go-too-far/
Had to back a ways there, didn’t you?
Reason won't even admit to their own lies, literally declaring facts have changed. As an example, government censorship by Silicon Valley. Or Robbie's interview of Fauci where he let Fauci lie without pushback.
Reason is more dishonest than Tucker Carlson.
By a lot
A hell of a lot.
ENB just deliberately told four giant whoppers this morning in the Roundup. It's become as natural as breathing for these posturing phonys.
Sullum is trying to catch up with both sarc and Mike openly lying with leftist narratives.
"there’s a lot of people out there who are grifting to greater or lesser extents"
Like Matt Welch, and everyone else at Reason.
Spot on, Thinking. This is why the joy we used to feel when Reason appeared in our mailbox has of late become a furtive search for something, anything, even a smallpassage, that reminds us why we keep subscribing.
Rare gems. Instead, we are hit in the face with drivel such as this piece.
I don't even think this is bad, per se. I agree with the overall view-Tucker is playing something up for his audience, the idea that he's been constrained. He needs to give them a reason to seek him out, now, and not just accept that he's been replaced on Fox and that the next guy is just as good. He's lying or, at best, greatly exaggerating.
It's just unsurprising. It's a lot of sniping at targets that Welch has already expressed his deep disdain for. There's not really much insight here.
Who's lying?
I dropped my torchbearer status last year. It was the first time in at least a decade that I didn't support the magazine. I gave them two years post Trump to bring it around, but after the performance of 2022, I was done.
" Just, ya know, try to balance it out a little bit."
In the world of TV punditry, there's no way to balance Carlson. Whoever the fuck Joy Reid is, she's in no way a balance for Carlson. He's at the top of the game, very talented and with an audience big enough to make him truly wealthy. America's makers of boner pills and adult diapers will have to find someone else. He just got fired a week or so ago and is now pimping for Twitter. Give him his due, he's earned his moment in the spotlight.
" They’ve tiptoed around other insidious liars like Nikole Hannah-Jones, calling her “controversial” or suggesting that her claims are “problematic.”
They've been tiptoeing around far more important and consequential liars than Hannah-Jones. For a start, how about every president of the country from Biden to Washington.
Fuck off and die, asshole. Pimp your blog where idiots like you congregate,
Matt Welch would never lie to you though.
Pinky swear!
Just a little... only the tip... he swears you won't even notice. Not like with that awful Tucker.
Perhaps Carlson is lying to me but I have never been a regular viewer of his, but from what I have been able to discern most of the media is lying either by commission or omission to shape the narrative around an issue. Writers ar Reason do it all the time, leaving important facts out of the story that may contradict the case being made. Also, this trend seems to be getting worse. Carlson may be wrong sometimes, he may have some bizarre interests, but he seems to have something of a point on this issue.
And then there is the increasing calls by major media reporters that some opinions and some people just should not be allowed to speak because what they say is too dangerous, even if it is true.
Almost every time they bring up a criminal justice issue, they leave out a ton of relevant facts and frame the issue dishonestly. It's so off-putting that I generally distrust them any time I see, "This man spent 8 years in prison on false charges," or similar headlines. It's actually harmful to their case, since if they just presented the whole story in many cases, warts and all, I'd probably be more sympathetic. I respond very poorly to dishonest framing.
Yes, that was exactly the kind of story I was thinking of, along with the other pet issues like immigration.
A large contingent of the journalism profession have become startlingly illiberal in last decade or so. Essentially only defending freedom of speech and press for people they agree with and are in their guild.
Censorship comes from a perfectly well-established variant of liberalism, from Robespierre, to Wilson and onward.
" Writers ar Reason do it all the time, leaving important facts out of the story that may contradict the case being made. "
That's inevitable, and that's why anyone will tell you it's important to check other sources.
The oath undertaken in court is about telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. The first and third are relatively easy and straight forward. But nobody can tell the 'whole truth' without leaving out 'important facts,' even in court when threatened with perjury, let alone a TV news studio, with crap to sell and corporate masters to please.

"Spouting nonsense is an end in itself."
Eat shit and die, asshole.
I don't have any problem believing Tucker Carlson is lying to me. But is he lying to me any more than anyone else in the media?
Nah, I don't think so.
He's lying to you considerably less so.
I miss the Stossel type writers at Reason who argue lies are part of free speech and that free people are smart enough to discern for themselves. The totalizing constraints demanded by Reason's editors have seem to run off all those with a libertarian take on speech.
I think he’s either one of the most delightfully honest talking heads in media, or one of the most delightfully good liars. Either way, I like Tucker. He’s been batting a 1000 since 2020.
Whoever taught you that Witchcraft is a real Supernatural craft and that those who profess or are alleged to be Witches deserve to be burned, stoned, crushed, or hung was certainly lying more than any of them.
Fuck Off, Witch-Burning Nazi!
"The last big one remaining in the world, the only one, is Twitter."
He should take that act to The Laugh Factory or Comedy Cellar.
I know. I believe that Gab is one the platform truly allowing free political speech. It attracts quite a number of, shall we say, interesting characters, but that's because it's the only true free speech platform. Otherwise they'd be spread out among more platforms.
Name the other major platforms that allow free political speech.
I will note, *everyone* in the media was apoplectic that Twitter was going to allow free speech. They said that this is what Nazis do. They freaked out. They called for boycotts. They called for everyone to leave.
Does this sound like a bunch of people who believe that free speech is common on big tech platforms?
I have worked in English language media even longer than Carlson has, and I "understand" nothing like the totalizing constraints he describes, nor would a significant percentage of the people I have worked with.
That is because you share the same progressive idealology of those who would enforce the totalizing constraints. Try giving us one article on Reason discussing the pitfalls of open borders and unrestrained immigration. Let us see how that goes.
Imagine if a writer here wanted to advocate for repeal of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The closest I can find in the archives is Cathy Young tepidly saying, 13 years ago,
Yes, post-1964 civil rights law has generated real problems.
Before she concluded with this:
Curbing these excesses is a worthy goal. But calling for a repeal of the ban on discrimination in the private sector is both utopian and reckless, and Paul’s unequivocal rejection of such a position was a laudable move. Opponents of intrusive government, including journalists of Stossel’s stature, should know how to pick their battles.
Imagine actually arguing for freedom of association while writing for this publication.
Fish: Water? What water?
pitfalls of open borders and unrestrained immigration. Let us see how that goes.
Reason is trying to get OFF Hamilton68's list, not stay on it!
Exactly. Welsh is entirely lying to us here, and he knows it. But he wants to protect his liberal friends
but I was similarly untroubled by the specter of editorial no-fly zones at the Los Angeles Times, a newspaper that hired me after I had written a series of "Outside the Tent" columns criticizing…the Los Angeles Times
*Looks at linked article dates: 2005*
Thirty years ago, the main conservative critique of the mainstream media was that it was biased. Twenty or so years ago, bias had escalated into pursuing an active agenda. Now, that agenda has managed to become an all-encompassing yet secretive transpartisan snow job.
We'll just whistle past the graveyard of the NYT "building its entire newsroom around Russiagate".
No exaggeration there.
Mike Laursen: Show me where they actually built a newsroom! Show me one construction permit!
LOL.
And let's note that Mike will never admit that he was owned trying to be snarky. He will be back next comment acting the reasonable observer like the guy from Memento, except more grating.
No, you got me dead to rights. I didn’t know you were quoting a former NYT editor.
Of course, he was clearly engaging in hyperbole. But that’s fair if you are just repeating his hyperbole. You got me.
Cite on him admitting to clear hyperbole?
Dude. He was not remotely being hyperbolic.
His newsroom was in revolt because they pulled the plug on Russiagate.
This was him promising to find another coordinated angle to attack Trump.
The result of that search was the 1619 project and to attack Trump by covering America as a racist society, to bring back the political divides of the 70s that were eroding.
And yes, we mentioned it at the time. We noticed that suddenly everything became about race and that the press seemed to be trying to make people hate each other based on race... right here in this comment section.
I personally asked people to opine as to how this command and control could possibly be operating. Was it journo-list 2.0? Was it the DNC?
It was obvious and blatant.
Years later we would learn that the CIA and the FBI are behind at least some of this coordination across media.
Astonishing that a libertarian magazine doesn't find that interesting. Libertarians freak out about "the man" over parking tickets. But not FBI lead censorship?
"Russiagate" def. - The categorical right-wing denial that the Trump campaign really did not meet with Kremlin officials on June 9, 2016 to plot the defeat of Hillary Clinton for mutual benefit.
Did they share Hunter's dick pics?
Is that the one where Trump Jr. was lied to about dirt on HiLIARy, but all that was discussed, with ordinary Russians, was Russian orphans not being allowed to be adopted by U.S. parents?
If no dirt was proffered, how did that help Trump steal the election from the purveyor of the phony Steele Dossier?
Don't forget that turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.
If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit.
Well, once you start taking seriously the idea that some puppet master or single-minded Borg is inflicting intentional wickedness on Everyman for personal profit, then all intellectual bets are off.
Soros, to be shorter.
"WEF NWO Globalist Jews" would also have been an acceptable reply. Extra credit for the conspiratorial acronyms.
Someone like you who advocates for corporatism, warmongering and similar policies to Aktion T4 and Kirchenkampf has an awful lot of balls invoking the Nazis and antisemitism.
Particularly in the defence of the machinations of one of the world's last living Nazi Party members.

Shorter Matt Welch: Cancel Culture doesn't exist.
Do I have that right?
I mean, FFS, we've had several left-wing NYT columnists get chased out of the building because they wrote something wrong on Trans issues. These were left wing journalists that are now tarred as being "right wing" merely for touching on taboo subjects.
Pay attention.
See Bari Weiss, who Welch seems to regard as a friend.
Did you not catch the part where Welch had a friendly relationship with Tucker back when their lives intersected.
Or the whole paper going apopletic over a Tom Cotton op-ed.
I thought it was "the left did nothing wrong"
Carlson, much like Donald Trump, consoles people by recognizing their discomfort at holding values contrary to those of cultural elites, flatters them by calling them "normal," and then stokes their paranoia with absolutist statements about the monolithic malevolents controlling their world.
Wow, this Welch piece is filled with goodies. Great article, MW.
It's really weird that he would touch on challenging someone being "normal" seems strange to call out, as I'd like to get his views on the other big "normal" movement going on.
???
Did I mention that turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat, lies? It’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.

In 2005 we were still debating marginal tax rates. That’s “ancient of history” as my ex-sister-in-law, and now teacher of history in a public school used to say.
A little ctrl-f action here, compare and contrast:
the most popular cable news host in the country
with:
Carlson postulated in his first Twitter video after being fired.
And first of all he was not “fired” he was “taken off the air”. Now there’s perfectly reasonable nitpicking that can be done here, but Carlson is still being paid by Fox News. Or at least that was the status as of about a week and a half ago when I was still following this story.
So why would Fox News “fire” or more accurately, pay-to-not-be-on-the-air, the “the most popular cable news host in the country” when he hasn’t even been accused of asking a woman out for a cup of coffee on an elevator? If there were serious charges like that, one would think we’d have heard them by now.
Robert Barnes had some very interesting commentary on this situation, and one of the things that made me smile is that Barnes pointed out the board of Fox News and noted that there are a lot of people that are angry that Fox News exists… Obama himself seems to believe that there would be “no conservative opinion in the US but for Fox News.” That absent Fox News, the entire country would bask in the warm, comfortable womb of center-left politics, cakes would be baked unquestioningly, and a 12 yr old cutting their dick off or having their uterus carved out would just be private decisions made between student and school teacher. But going back to Barnes’ comments on the Fox News Board, Barnes indicated that the Board of Fox News is annoyed that Fox News is on the air.
I've had some issues with Robert Barnes, especially lately, but I do largely accept his take on Fox News mostly at face value. They're still in an old-media mindset and aren't realizing how much the modern landscape is personality driven, rather than based on the corporate power structure. The hit they're taking on Tucker's timeslot is severe, and it's leaking into the adjacent programming before and after his timeslot. And their grudge largely seems to be based on internal disagreements he had with higher-ups and his willingness to criticize them behind the scenes.
Yeah, I vacillate on whether he is a nut or not.... but he called the election shenanigans before they happened, and he also called the Trump lawyer failure before it happened. He said he told Powell that her election machine expert was a conman who was playing her ignorance on elections, but she didn't believe him.
So that all panned out.
He has been far nuttier on some other issues. So who knows.
FoxNews is faux opposition.
They frame everything the same as the rest of the msm.
They dissent, slightly, on some marginal stuff but they're lockstep on the important issues.
They had a covid death count on screen 24/7. They played up George Floyd. They swore the election was totes fair (even called AZ with 1% or something reported, a state that had an eventual margin of a few thousand votes, while holding off until real late calling Florida, which was a landslide). They spout all the same MIC/State Department propaganda/lies.
They had 2 people there with any real anti establishment opinions: Tucker, who's gone now, and Gutfeld, who doesn't take anything seriously.
I am even convinced that Fox News was part of the coordinated effort to "fortify" the election: the fact that when they called Arizona, several States stopped counting ballots, indicates to me that this was some sort of signal to the "most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization in the history of American politics".
They certainly were
"So why would Fox News “fire” or more accurately, pay-to-not-be-on-the-air, the “the most popular cable news host in the country”
Ancient Chinese secret: kill the rooster; scare the monkey.
Fox had to pay almost a billion over the election business and the owners decided to deliver a short sharp shock that would make all the talent shudder with the realization that nobody was safe and to be on their toes. What better way to do that than axe the most talented? Added bonus: nobody is talking about the loss in the voting machine trial, but a story of their own making - poor Tucker, out of a job, with a family to support and everything else.
Did the judge declaring facts allowed pre trial have any bearing on the settlement? Hint: read fox News statements.
You're not reading what I wrote. The judge, the settlement, the machines, the trial etc are the old story. The new story is Tucker on the dole. Fox owners were tired of the old story so they gave us a new story. Magicians and deep staters call this misdirection.
"You’re not reading what I wrote..."
There's a reason for that; you're full of shit.
I'm glad you asked. I'll try to make this clear. The trial put Fox in a bad light. Bad for the company image as a news broadcaster and a less attractive venue for advertisers. Plus a humiliation for the owners. The solution: make a new story. Shift focus away from the humiliation of the trial and onto a story of their own making: pulling Carlson off the air. it also scares just about everyone in the company to watch what they say and do. I wouldn't be surprised if other heads roll at Fox because of the loss. But they'll come later and won't make the same (if any) headlines.
If that's still unclear, Tucker is the rooster, a showy, strutting figure and the rest of the Fox staff are the monkeys, prone to mischief making and imitation.
Reason may be on the tolerant extreme of the open-debate spectrum, but I was similarly untroubled by the specter of editorial no-fly zones at the Los Angeles Times...
Or maybe you've simply never had a thought at odds with the prevailing narrative of the ruling establishment.
This was my thought, expressed a little better.
What, Reason.com is now the ruling establishment? Since when? The ruling establishment thinks that it's a good idea to eat food, drink water, and breathe air, and so does Reason, OK then... Got any more? Citation(s)? Or is Reason (or Joe Biden?) preventing you from doing so?
Yes. They love Biden and anti-libertarian policies. Just like the mainstream.
Your examples and citations are AWESOME! Because I said so! And because "Because I said so!" is THE most awesome libertarian, NON-authoritarian attitude EVER!!!!
May you be so kind and tell us when Reason came on the side of Republicans? Because I've been following Reason for years now, and I have seen little evidence that they ever side with the Republicans. Somehow, Democrats are always the "more libertarian" Party, even despite the fact that they have historically and consistently taken the anti-liberty Nazi/Communist Collectivist side of American politics.
Your examples and citations are AWESOME! Because I said so! And because “Because I said so!” is THE most awesome libertarian, NON-authoritarian attitude EVER!!!!
If "Because I say so" is good enough for you, it's good enough for me -- I'm still waiting for your examples and citations.
And while I'm probably more libertarian than most of the people here (Reason staff particularly included), I nonetheless have a strong dose conservative as well. Aren't leftists like you convinced that "leave me alone to do what I want, except for the armed forces and maybe roads and social security" conservatives are full-on Nazi-loving authoritarians?
Ironically, of course, you're convinced you're more libertarian than most conservatives, because you don't believe in that "authoritarian" stuff -- except, of course, banning gas stoves, banning incandescent light bulbs, demonizing nuclear energy, holding beach parties, etc, etc. That kind of thing is ok, to be sure, because it's experts appointed by politicians who were put into office by the People who obviously know what they are doing, and would never put someone in the White House who's been involved with corruption so long, he can still remember how to do it, even despite clear signs of advancing dementia.
Nope, not authoritarian at all!
This is small (SMALL) publication, a club tabloid really. So the well-combed snide club members can pretty much write and publish anything. The cuter the better.
That pretty bit of factlet takes nothing away from Tucker's sober observation about today's US (nay, much of Western) journalism.
We subscribe to Reason in part because every once in a while something almost-brave appears in its pages, and in larger part out of respect to Tibor, a founder, who would have nothing to do with 2023 Reason.
"...We subscribe to Reason in part because every once in a while something almost-brave appears in its pages,..."
Fewer and fewer times.
"and in larger part out of respect to Tibor, a founder, who would have nothing to do with 2023 Reason."
He's approaching red-line on the tach; all's the pity.
Got this and CSICOP's newsletters as stapled, mimeographed pubs in the '70s. Even some earlier issues of "The Realist" were not as far to the left as Reason is now.
Pathetic.
These examples may border on the absurd
Only if you completely ignore the context of the statements, like you did, dumbass.
Gee Matt, ever hear of hyperbole?
When Tucker wore a bow tie, he could say what he wanted and no one cared because he was wearing a freaking bow tie.
Once he took that off and pretended to be serious and instead started spouting shit, people began to take him seriously and hold him accountable like an adult.
Now he is free to start wearing clipons and putting his underwear on his head and doing kids stuff. And he will not be taken seriously anymore but someone sometime will tell him something and he will go into a tantrum to get attention.
Most any human who can fog a mirror is taken more seriously than you, you lying chicken little.
Tucker has been a whole hell of a lot more accurate than this double digit IQ commenter who calls itself jfree
Yeah, and they don't take Joe Rogan seriously. Or Crowder. Or Shapiro. Or Prager.
Wait, don't all of these people individually Dwarf CNN in their numbers?
Maybe the world is changing. And maybe that us why there has been such a panic over Musk buying Twitter for free speech.
And to Welch's thesis.... where did Reason come down on the "free speech on Twitter" subject?
Oh yeah.... it is bad. And everyone should run to Mastadon. Or this other thing that we were just told to push.
Free to cover whatever you want my ass.
> But the populist trick and conceit, one that Carlson is already ratcheting up in his new Twitter phase, is to not merely say the forbidden truth but to do so while, improbably enough, claiming that you cannot do so.
Reminds me of Prager posting YouTube videos complaining that he couldn't post YouTube videos.
And if Tucker had aired his complaint on Fox News itself, you might have a point.
Except he didn't, so what's your point again?
Easy: Bandyshit is a TDS-addled steaming pile of shit.
Now we see the violence inherent in the system, ass the Thought-Controlling Lizard People try to swamp me with remotely induced pain-waves ass I type this out!!!! HELP!!!!!
Was Prager complaining about posting all videos, or merely that Youtube was preventing him from posting certain videos?
I have seen plenty of videos where people on Youtube complained that they couldn't talk about certain subjects without risking losing their entire Youtube accounts. Does that mean they have the freedom to say whatever they want on Youtube?
All of conservative YouTube learned to speak in code words.
Even non-political commentary like the movie reviewer "The Drinker" learned that you could not speak directly about Covid-19 lest you be demonitized and taken down. So he calls it "the unspecified virus of unknown origin".
A joke like that doesn't resonate unless it is based in truth.
With all due respect to Mr. Welch, but most of what the media puts out is bull s***. The Russian Collusion Hoax, Bush’s letter to his draft board, two weeks to stop the spread, Hunter’s laptop Russian disinformation, the dirty 51 backing it up, the border under control, Biden being honest, vaccine efficacy, vaccine stopping infection and transmission, natural immunity worse than vaccine derived immunity, Hillary’s Benghazi response, the Benghazi attack was due to an obscure video, Hillary’s server not illegal, and many more. All of these were absolutely wrong and pushed by the media. If they had committed even misdemeanor journalism, they would had discovered this in five minutes.
"With all due respect to Mr. Welch"
Since when is a biased, gas-lighting main stream media shill 'due' ANY 'respect' whatsoever?
There once was a dullard named Matt
whose morals are those of a rat
which is why he's been sent
to crush any dissent
in return for a paycheck that's fat.

Above is my reply to the author of this article.
As for conspiracy, I wish someone would fact check the following and verify it is real or false. Mainstream media has not covered it:
"You are being replaced" - Michael Yon on U.S. border invasion | Redacted with Clayton Morris
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MltYmgHoTk
"Reason, for example, tends to be tethered to a political/ideological/philosophical point of view"
...and before that, it was Libertarian.
Point
Point
Point Plus.
As I've mentioned before, I was a long term subscriber to the dead trees and ink version of Reason. Last week I cleaned out a closet and found several copies from the early 2000s. It's difficult to reconcile the anti establishment malcontents at Reason in those days with the TDS, deep state, Biden apologists who dominate the pages today. However reluctant and strategic they may be. Yeah Weed, Buttsex and Mexicans have always been libertarian priorities. And I will defend to the death the right of Mexicans to have buttsex while smoking weed. But we live in a world teetering on the edge of WW3 and economic catastrophe thanks to Reason's strategic endorsee. I anxiously await "The Libertarian Case For Senile Neocon Tyrants".
the anti establishment malcontents at Reason in those days
But that is how you construe libertarianism - "anti-establishment malcontents". That's not being principled, that is just opposing whoever has power for its own sake. That is why so many "libertarians" seem warmly receptive to RFK Jr.'s candidacy even though he has virtually zero libertarian policy ideas - because he's an "anti-establishment malcontent".
Libertarianism is a set of ideas and principles, not just some kid yelling "fuck the state".
are you implying that Reason back then were just some kid yelling at the state ? …and that only in their latest incarnation they’ve discovered their integrity?
Maybe the could be characterized as such because then (as now) the state as administered by any group was never administered according to a libertarian mindset and thus demanded principled, even visceral opposition to get their message out over the cover of a monolithically compliant press
I've seen some "Well, he's better than Biden", which is likely true, but I've not seen any "Woohoo, RFK Jr is running!". I suppose "tolerating" and "warmly receptive to" can be considered synonyms by some (pop culture has redefined "tolerating" as "full-throat support and applause for it"), but it really is not.
Reason ran a hit piece on RFK Jr.
Fair.
Match Point.
Boy left-leaning libertarians are the worst!
See? It’s as easy as that to cause social conflagration.
The irony is that this magazine/website is called reason. Yet, logic and reason are perverted by personal political biases.
You should possibly be ashamed of yourself, or at the very least, mark this article as opinion. It seems outright deceptive to present this article as fact..
Matt, your own words betray you:
Some means not all, thus you too have withheld your opinions some of the time; this self-censorship is the lies of which Tucker Carlson speaks.
And how many of his least libertarian notions coincide with the rest if the writers and his paymaster?
Yeah most of his words disprove his point.
Looks like big daddy Koch got a bee in his bonnet over Tucker saying things, so all the Reasonistas have to dutifully bang out some hit pieces.
Tucker is really pushing reason's buttons for some reason. This entire article summed up "Tucker says the media controls the narrative! Nuh uh!"
Whatever. Fucking childish article with no substance, revealing only your triggered sensitivities around Mr. Carlson
It's not Tucker Carlson himself that's pushing buttons. It's the fact that he, along with guys like Rogan, are untouchable by the cancel mob. No matter what happens with Fox, Tucker will still have a platform and wherever he goes, his millions of followers will go with him. They represent the decline of the MSMs ability to set the agenda.
This whole article is just more "cancel culture doesn't exist" nonsense. They ran Bari Weis out on a rail. Glenn Greenwald was a national hero for breaking the Snowden story, but now he's labeled a fascist. Matt Taibbi is a corporate stooge for working on the Twitter Files with Musk, which exposed the specific means by which journalists are not allowed to write the truth.
Welch- and the rest of Reason- is just a cog in the machine. They'll be allowed to continue to exist and write their edgy articles on weed and buttsex as long as they toe the line on the Narrative.
So Tucker claims he was fired for being some sort of upholder of "truth" and not because he called an executive a cunt? Hilarious
Megyn Kelly backed him up on that assessment.
Said executive was a cunt. Other talent said the same. Offered to fire her to keep Megyn Kelly.
So, another truth.
It's possible to make a statement that is not correct without it being a lie. Perhaps that is his experience of working in English language news media.
But what about Whoopi?
Only got through the first few paragraphs but the claim that Reason writers have the freedom to espouse any opinion but adhere to what sure looks like a party line is only because they all share the same philosophy, doesn't pass my smell test. Not one Reason writer has addressed the blatant constitutional violations perpetrated on J6 defendants. Not one. Not one Reason writer has entertained the possibility that the 2020 and 2022 elections may have been affected by fraud. Not one. Not one Reason writer ever gave us a full throated condemnation of the greatest assault on liberty in my rather long lifetime, the Covid scam. Not one. Not one Reason writer has addressed the libertarian issues of aborting a healthy fetus at 8 months gestation on demand. Not one Reason writer has addressed the libertarian issues of genital mutilation of children. Not one.
This list could get a whole lot longer but Welch wants us to believe this lack of diverse opinions is simply a consequence of a shared belief system. Whatever that belief system is, it doesn't appear to be libertarian and it doesn't appear that contrarian voices are welcome here.
Not one Reason writer has addressed the libertarian issues of aborting a healthy fetus at 8 months gestation on demand.
Maybe because that doesn't happen?
Written into statute in the state of Illinois and most blue states at this point. Also doctors not required to attempt to save fetuses who survive abortion. Try to keep up with current trends.
Try to keep up with reality.
Like this reality, you Moloch worshiping cunt?
It happens often. Usually from telling the mother to claim depression as a risk to her life. This isn't unknown.
What do you mean by "often". I can only imagine that such cases are a very small proportion of abortions. I mean, how many people are going to wait 8 months with all the inconveniences of pregnancy and then say "holy shit, I need to get an abortion"?
Well, 1% of abortions occur in the third trimester. There were 615,000 abortions in 2020. So about 6,150 times. Is that "often" enough you fucking faggot?
How many of those 6,150 were of a healthy fetus, and on demand?
Cite?
Will just one suffice?
Or would two be more helpful?
Sexual mutilation of confused kids is occurring and is beyond vile.
Transgender is a mental illness; evolution affirms your gender. Kids can no more "decide" to be the other biological sex than they can be a triceratops. Adults who want to dress the other sex or have imitation surgery can but it is an adult decision. To reject this fact is like rejecting the earth goes around the sun.
Where is Rason on this? Where is Reason on States taking away parents rights to stop this mutilation? JC..a society has to have morality? mutilating kids is NOT libertarian.
Hey, they are the COOL guys at reason. Don't expect them to pick a side that gets crutiy from the cool groups.
Not one Reason writer has addressed the blatant constitutional violations perpetrated on J6 defendants.
Such as?
Why don't we start with being kept in solitary confinement for over 2 years and beaten until one of them lost an eye over misdemeanor trespassing and parading charges, cytotoxic.
Hmm, sounds serious. Why don't you provide some more details on this case?
Assorted Calibers Podcast occasionally discussed this on their show. Here is one of the episodes that describes some of the travesties; it is near the end of the podcast (which discusses gun rights in general).
https://www.assortedcalibers.com/2021/07/05/assorted-calibers-podcast-ep-160-the-all-interview-episode/
Oh, and I should add: even if you don't want to listen to the podcast, there are links in the show notes that discuss some of these cases.
Does anyone believe Matt Welch is being truthful?
Got controlling interest on the north anchorage of a major bridge and you can have it for an attractive price.
No. He lies every time he shows up. We all know it. But you just might like it!
Meanwhile, the only actual libertarian affiliated with Reason, John Stossel is suing Facebook for being censored (and defamed)
Stossel loves to sue
And going back a few years, wasn't commenter favorite Lucy fired from Reason for actually being a libertarian?
You might not have been censored, but actual libertarians have.
They fing have Cathy Young...a neocon who can't wait to get young American kids killed to avenge some old world grievance to her forefathers in Russia.
Cathy Young is an utterly vile moron
The attack by the supposed libertarian Reason editors on anymore slightly to the right but more libertarian than 99% of the left is not surprising.
Given the last few years with the covid lies, big govt/big tech collusion and the corporate media pushing narratives ("white supremacy threat") which they know is fake and we get Matt defending these pos?
Their hero is a failed hedge fund gay gov of Colorado. Is he a strong defender of the Bill of Rights? Questions parts of the CRA of 64 which are obviously against any reasonable definition of liberty? But he is for the holy trinity of the Reason crowd:
1. Open borders (forget a nation state is the best defense of liberty)
2. Abortion up to birth
3. Sexual mutilation of kids who are coaxed by pedos/groomers (and there is no such thing as transgender which is a mental illness..they are called transvestites)
Not a peep about the Fed, foreign wars, foreign influence (hell takeover) of US foreign policy by neocons/neolibs with old world grievances), real fascism by the Federal Govt (Big Tech and the Security State are the same thing it seems). No push back on cultural marxism (blm/crt) and refusing to talk about the real systemic crime problem..black on white/asian (look at the stats).
To try and defend the LA Times, NYT, or Wapo as some "fair and balanced" papers is the lie of the decade. Read some of the left wing and anti "white" crap coming out of them. Lying to protect the narrative is what they do.
Reason editors are cosmo types who are offended by salt of the earth libertarians who don't live in DC/NYC and are not worried about not getting the invite to the hamptons for the weekend with the Salon crowd. And Matt, you come across as the slimy news guy who pretends to be fair but drips contempt for anyone who doesn't have your "acceptable" social progressive views. This goes back to the Ron Paul Revolution..he was so "icky" to Nick and Matt.
As Eric Cartman once said...screw you sir...
"No push back on cultural marxism (blm/crt)..."
This is how I knew Reason was fucked. BLM/CRT is one of the most UN-libertarian ideas out there. Reason never bothered to explore it and delve into how CRT is counter to every libertarian principle. They just spewed the "mostly peaceful" and "not being taught in schools" garbage, just like every other publication out there.
I know one conservative/libertarian blogger who is convinced that the Libertarian Party and some of the major organs of "libertarian" (in particular, Reason) is a Democrat/Communist front attempting to convince liberty-loving Republicans to vote libertarian or maybe even Democrat.
As much as I wish I could say she's wrong, I find it very difficult to refute the idea -- in no small part because of what I have seen in Reason over the years. (I appreciate their libertarian-ish commentary, now and then, but they clearly sacrifice the principle if the winning of a Republican is on the line!)
Holy shit, this guy is really delusional. Our press is free, free, free, no constraints, no pressure. It's frightening that this guy sees no problem with journalism today. Probably just a case garden-variety TDS - that's when I noticed a big change. I kept coming back, thinking surely the ship would right itself. Never did, never will.
BTW, I retweeted Welch's Red Wedding tweet a few months ago and he came at me repeatedly like a crazy man. I'm a total nobody on Twitter but I gather that's the kind of thing he does all day.
I wish you commenters would find somewhere else to hang - with very notable exceptions, I enjoy the knowledge and humor you provide.
Glibertarians.com for the links experience.
Hyperbole, not lying. What stupid article.

"Injustice results as much from treating unequals equally as from treating equals unequally."
— Aristotle, Politics
Daniel Penny, Jordan Neely and the American System of Injustice
Since the tumult of the Civil Rights Era and the subsequent de facto replacement of the original Constitution by the nebulous and ever-expanding "Civil Rights Constitution," America has been a nation on the decline: politically, culturally, and demographically. The most recent outrage perpetrated against the people of the Historic American Nation, dominating the dizzying cycle of 24/7 news headlines, is the charging of Marine Veteran Daniel Penny for the death of Jordan Neely, a homeless schizophrenic who apparently liked to randomly threaten innocent subwaygoers and occasionally impersonate Michael Jackson. I'm not going to waste time on the details of the incident, as they are freely available online, including video footage of the incident in question, which most honest people would have to admit could be legally exculpatory. But I digress.
I am, however, going to talk briefly about the state of the American judicial system. Four simple words are engraved above the doors to the Supreme Court: "Equal Justice Under Law." That's supposed to be the basic promise of our legal system: that our laws are just, and that everyone —everyone— will be held equally accountable if they break those laws. However, as Aristotle warned some two millennia ago, American justice is no longer blind, legally impartial, or even a system all that concerned with any sort of real justice. It has devolved into a court of public spectacle whose sole purpose is to appease the ever-growing restless masses. The famed Prussian general and military theorist Carl von Clausewitz, still revered today for his seminal study of warfare, On War (Vom Kriege), famously wrote, "War is the continuation of policy [politics] with other means." Along similar lines, the American justice system is rapidly becoming an extension of the state's systematic anti-White animus, perpetuated by "other [lega] means."
The purpose of any legitimate legal system is to seek justice. In the Western civilizational sense of the term, justice is the ethical principle that guides impartial, fair, and reasonable treatment under the law. It's meant to ensure the prevention of harm and the provision of appropriate remedies, ensuring that both the accuser and the accused face morally just consequences for their actions.
However, in this case, and in many other cases (see the news), the racial backgrounds of Penny and Neely come into play. Penny is White, and Neely is Black. The new revolutionary-style justice system in America has been transformed into a court of public spectacle, meant to ameliorate the perceived grievances of the growing BIPOC demographic. In Nietzschean terms, the American justice system epitomizes the philosophical principles associated with the slave morality, emphasizing conformity, obedience, and fostering resentment towards individuals in positions of power and strength. The slave morality tends to prioritize traits associated with weakness and subservience while devaluing qualities related to strength, power, and assertiveness. The current American system is that of the Nietzschean slave, not the Master.
Moreover, the slave morality is dominated and animated by what Nietzsche referred to as ressentiment; ressentiment differs from resentment. Nietzschean ressentiment refers to the experience of harboring deep-seated hostility towards a perceived source or cause of one's frustration. It involves the act of assigning blame to the alleged cause for the resulting dissatisfaction. Over the past several decades, American politics and, by extension, its system of justice has been becoming more and more racialized. In fact, it would be apt to say, again invoking Clausewitz, that the racialization of American politics, and once more, justice, is the continuation of Marxist doctrine by other means. The proletariat of Marx and Engels has been replaced by an ad-hoc coalition of people of color, while the role of bourgeois oppressor has been foisted atop the proverbial backs of White folks. As such, American justice, and justice in the entire Western world more broadly, has become more about addressing the perceived grievances and the ressentiment of peoples who are told that they are oppressed, and that this oppression is caused by their evil White overlords, who cartoonishly seek nothing more than the perpetuation of White Supremacy.
Guy Debord, the famed French philosopher, and himself a Marxist, in his fantastic book The Society of the Spectacle, examines the concept of the spectacle in the modern (postmodern) capitalist world. He argues that capitalism creates a society where the representation of reality becomes more important than actual reality. The American justice system has become a grand spectacle, meant to appease the grievances of one group against another, and thus it is no longer concerned with apparently trivial and timeless Western concepts, like the rendering of actual justice.
Will Daniel Penny receive fair and equal justice in the increasingly racialized American court of the spectacle? The answer is already preordained: No, he will not. Penny will, sadly and unfortunately, be sacrificed atop the corpse-ridden altar of American injustice, in order to appease the ever-growing ressentiment of a rapidly fragmenting American body politic.
One of the first steps necessary to revitalize America and rejuvenate its people is to resurrect the time-tested principles of true justice. Until this happens, America will continue to decline. However, there is a glimmer of hope. Perhaps the injustice that Penny is undoubtedly about to receive will act as a wakeup call, enraging Americans enough to demand real change. Or perhaps not? Only time will tell, but I however am optimistic.
Nice essay, but there is no hope and no wake call will be coming. You are living through the beginning throws of a dying empire whose course at this pint cannot and will not be reversed.
Wondering why Reason, who I love and agree with, is still a 501C3. I don’t think this publication falls under the whole ‘we’re a neutral organization.”
It’s hilarious that Carlson thinks he’s Fox News audience probably all in their 50s and older are suddenly gonna start using twitter for their news … he and twitter can both fade into oblivion together, at least that’s my hope
"..at least that’s my hope"
Should we save that to prove how lefty shits are abysmally stupid? Or perhaps you just would like to admit it now?
Yeah that was basically my thought - I'm willing to bet Tucker's main audience on Fox was a bunch of geezers who just habitually watched Fox every night because that was their routine. They didn't watch Fox specifically for Tucker, they watched Fox out of habit and they aren't going to change habits now.
That explains why his audience was 3 times larger than the time slots before and after his, cytotoxic.
His numbers in the "key demo" dwarfed anybody else on cable news and FNC has lost over 2/3 of them since he left.
Hate to break it to you shreek, but the Millennials are in their fucking 40s now. Twitter isn't a hip young people hangout, anymore than Facebook. Anybody under 30 using Twitter would be considered, as the kids say, cringe.
So Gaear Grimsrud hits the nail on the head above:
https://reason.com/2023/05/11/tucker-carlson-is-lying-to-you/?comments=true#comment-10059137
IMO what drives many modern libertarians today isn't policy or principle or ideas, it's the idea of being an "anti-establishment malcontent". That is why so many of you like Glenn Greenwald AND Tucker Carlson AND RFK Jr. - even though they are all WILDLY different in their beliefs and ideologies - because what they do have in common is that they are all "anti-establishment malcontents". They are all people who say "fuck the establishment, burn it all down, screw them all, to hell with it". And it coincides with an observation that Thomas Massie made a little while ago:
https://reason.com/2017/03/15/thomas-massies-unified-theory-of-ron-pau/
"All this time," Massie explained, "I thought they were voting for libertarian Republicans. But after some soul searching I realized when they voted for Rand and Ron and me in these primaries, they weren't voting for libertarian ideas—they were voting for the craziest son of a bitch in the race.
That is the "libertarian base" now: people who are voting for crazy, because crazy means an "anti-establishment malcontent" who is most likely to burn it all down. That is my theory anyway. And, quite frankly, that is just having a temper-tantrum. That is letting emotion and rage and anger subsume rational thought and analysis of policy.
Reason.con Is Lying to You About Everything About Joe Biden
But hey—you might just like it!
Clear Political Intent – FBI Refuses to Turn Over Unclassified Investigative Report Detailing Joe Biden Bribery Scheme
During all of my research and discoveries about the DOJ and FBI, the one constant from everyone with a specific and granular knowledge of how the silo information operations are conducted is that the FBI is comprehensively and institutionally corrupt at every level.
Let us not pretend with each other. As an outcome of President Obama and Eric Holder’s specific actions, the Federal Bureau of Investigation was weaponized (top to bottom) as an enforcement mechanism to protect the interests of the DC democrats. Top to bottom the FBI is a fully weaponized federal police agency with the primary mission to target political opposition. In the modern political era, this is the sole purpose of the FBI – nothing more, nothing less.
Congress has specific knowledge of an investigative document inside the FBI known as an FD-1023. The FD-1023 details the evidence delivered by confidential human sources to investigators. The specific FD-1023 is a multi-page document outlining the entire bribery scheme used by Joe Biden and his family. The person who helped detail the FD-1023 documents has informed congress of its existence.
Because this unclassified FD-1023 outlines the details of how Joe Biden used his office to accept bribes from foreign officials, the FBI is refusing to release it. Instead, the FBI is telling Congress they have no right to see it [LETTER to Congress Here].
The FBI is claiming that reports from Confidential Human Sources (CHSs) cannot be released, regardless of classification status. Further, what you will note in the claims of the FBI and DOJ is essentially what we have been talking about on these pages for several years. Information is intentionally put into institutional silos that keep the information hidden and protected. The silo use is everywhere in Washington DC.
Isn't this the same form used to report about General Flynn. The one that was leaked to the media to get him fired and later used to prosecute him?
Funny how that works.
And remember how the curious media dug in on a President and Vice president ordering the FBI to frame an officer of the incoming administration for a crime so he could be prosecuted?
Remember how Matt and the Reason team dug in on that to discover why it happened, and maybe just as importantly, why places like the NYT and the network news didn't deem something that shocking to be newsworthy?
Hey Matt,
The worst lies are the lies you tell yourself.
Maybe you should visit the comments more often. It is quite clear that Reason is not an independent voice. Not even a particularly libertarian voice. Not anymore.
And it certainly isn't an important voice. Not important enough to get those visits from the FBI telling them what to cover and not cover.
Or is it?
Where was Reason on that?
Where were you?
You were happy to spew on the same side as the FBI because it was against Trump. But wouldnt a real reporter have reported on the story of how every media organization and tech platform in the country lied about an important story of a presidential candidate being on the take?
You were there. Not only did you not provide a dissenting view, you sang from the choir book. On a story that no rational person could deny. From the story in the Post, we not only had emails that were corroborated by the other parties, we also had Bidens business partner corroborating the scheme to funnel money to "the big guy".
You lie... and the first person you have been lying to is yourself.
The two places where you can reliably get the unfiltered, unvarnished truth of what it is that Welch and the rest of the Reason fugazis truly think and believe is on Twitter (where they will occasionally divulge their deepest inner fantasies about mass murdering conservatives in a "Red Wedding" style party), and here in the Reason comments through their considerable panoply of leftie aockpuppet accounts. Think of Shrike. aka Palin's Buttplug, aka Sarah Palin's Buttplug 2 as essentially their de facto inner voice and official spokesman. Because what he says in the comments every day is pretty much exactly what Welch and most of them really think.
My highly unlikely but funny dream is that one day someone will hack into the Reason servers and obtain the mass collection of IP traffic and digital forensic evidence that allows us to definitively match all the Reason staff writers to all their various leftie cimnentet sockpuppet accounta accounts so we know who is who among them.
Reading Matt's Twitter, it did remind me quite a bit of one of our trolls. Not the same overall voice, but similar pedantic wordplay and parsing to be "technically correct" while intentionally avoiding the actual issue entirely.
Megyn Kelly had Democrat presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. on yesterday. They talked at length about Tucker getting fired.
Kennedy related a story. He said he was told by the head of Fox News that anyone who put on someone who criticises big pharma (I think he was being vaccine-specific) at a major corporate news outlet would be fired.
Kennedy said Tucker had him on to talk about his experience with vaccine censorship, and 5 days later he was fired.
Kennedy said it didn't take much for him to connect those dots.
This is Robert Kennedy Jr., Democrat candidate for president who is polling at about 20% in the DNC primary polls. He is of DNC royalty. And he is pretty much deplatformed in corporate media.
So... Sounds like Tucker Carlson got fired for not being woke enough.
122 million viewers compares to you bitching at the L.A. Times.
Tucker Carlson engages in hyperbole. Alert the media!
Watch 10 minutes of MSNBC or 20 minutes of CNN and tell me he's wrong...
I've recently started watching CNN again. I've watched Fox since 2017 because CNN and the rest of the media got Trump elected by giving Trump millions of $ of exposure so he would get the Republican nomination and assumed Clinton would then be elected. Stupid. Looks like they are doing the same thing this round.
I have found that, while Fox is far from unbiased, I at least get information about the existence of issues that go unreported elsewhere. Now I watch CNN some, (and the business channels) to get the same thing. I assume the whole truth is not told anywhere.
Carlson disturbs me as he is excessive in his language and is too gullible with people he likes. He doesn't challenge them.
I appreciate Reason's reportage. I, at least, think that its bias is libertarian and fact-based. I like Carlson more when he wore bow ties.
The websites of CNN and Fox are both better than NYT, the Guardian, and even the BBC. They don't make any demands of people who visit their site like subscribing etc. Al Jazeera is good for international stuff.
There once was a dumbazz who cried
"Can't you see how Tucker has lied?"
Yet the guy's such a goof
He forgot to add proof
Which is how we know his brain is fried!
Tucker ran up against it when he told the one truth you are just NOT alllowed to speak.
He told it at that Friday meeting (Heritage?), RIGHT before they fired him Monday.
He point blank called the left EVIL for its deranged trans-the-kids, favor-violent-criminals-over-civilians ideology. The one thing the cabal does not tolerate is a "good vs evil" framing - especially when they're the ones being called out for their evil. They will shut that down IMMEDIATELY, because it's a threat to their power.
Even the left criticizes "greed" and "hate" but oddly they won't let the word EVIL into the conversation. Because once it's there - the bad guys (them) become SUPER obvious.
Explain 51 "intelligence officers" signing a letter whose purpose was to dupe the electorate and provide Biden cover during a presidential debate using the bad incentives explanation in a way that is distinguished from a conspiracy theory explanation.
Who has covered that crucial story more: reason or Tucker?
Also: media bias and "conservative" critiques of it do not begin with Bernard Goldberg, as your hypertext links suggest, but with one time Ayn Rand pal Edith Efron, and her book "The News Twisters."
I'm done with Reason, this was the last straw. You're not libertarians any more you're just globalist controlled opposition. Carlson is critical of the political establishment, you could find common ground with someone like this to combat the establishment corruption that's destroying America instead you're attacking a journalist fired for dissent and pretending the system isn't broken. Absolutely shameful. Reason used to be a magazine I trusted, now you're just the same corporate/political establishment horseshit with a thin pseudo libertarian veneer.
Eye roll
Matt clarified his views on Twitter.
He means that because Reason published something on an issue at some point, Tucker is lying when he says that there are certain things that you cannot cover.
Now, it is obvious that Tucker is talking about corporate mass media, not niche advocacy media funded by a billionaire to air his views.
And Matt knows this. He was challenged on this on Twitter and his response was "but he didn't *say* just corporate media."
So, therefore, he lies.
I was very confused about this article before I saw that exchange, but now it makes more sense. Matt has an advanced case of TDS. In his world, anyone who disagrees with him has the worst motives possible... and Matt can see right through them.
And Matt has the purest motives possible. So when Matt intentionally conflates niche media that is funded explicitly for advocacy with the mainstream corporatr media, he is just following the strict meaning of the words used. It is the purest intent and not dishonest at all, even if the meaning was obviously something different.
The entirety of the last decade of growing censorship in America doesn't exist, because Reason published something contrary to the narrative, however tepid. This is his view.
I think there may be a large dollop of "I can write about stuff that I belive" (because it agrees with the narrative) behind his views. And for some reason, the large ecosystem of Podcasters that has been forced go "roll their own" and has an entire ethos of coded and couched speech to avoid the ban hammer doesn't seem to inform his views on the topic.
Tucker is right.
The author of this opinion piece is wrong.
Reason magazine is read by a handful, Tucker was watched by millions.
THINK - it does a body good.
Your claim the statement is a lie is actually evidence of his claim, which you call a lie.
You are correct and Tucker is indeed wrong: not everybody who works in English language media "understands" the constraints they operate under. To people like you, those constraints are so natural and ingrained that you don't even perceive them as constraints, you just follow them automatically and unconsciously. You are too narrow minded and too insulated in your bubble to ever recognize what you are doing.
Your assigned role in the media landscape is to give the appearance of alternative viewpoints, while never straying enough from the government narrative to pose a serious threat to established interests. That is, when you aren't simply acting as useful idiots for left wing causes, which you also do frequently.
It's unsurprising that his "least libertarian position" was a strong praise of nationalized healthcare in France from over a decade ago.
Talking about going outside the grain of the mainstream media!
Welch’s point was he was going outside the grain of libertarian media. But you knew that.
Yes, he stood up to very left-leaning libertarians by writing in favor of leftist positions and he wasn't slapped down.
I’m starting to come to the conclusion that the people in these comments who throw around the word “leftist” have no fucking clue as to what it means other than not-Republican.
I figure the people who do that share the same amount of brain-power as the Obamabots who said anyone who didn't like his policies was racist, or that anyone who disagrees with Democrats is a fascist.
It is the same dumbasses who call Warren Buffett and George Soros "socialists".
Sure I know what leftist means! It's English for backpfeifengesicht.
How many years in a row did you call people trump cultists? Simply for not joining lies and leftist narratives? The same lies and leftist narratives you continue to push?
For those too lazy to click:
Matt Welch @MattWelch
Now would be a good time to throw a big cocktail party in New York or Washington, and invite every single conservative writer you know. #RedWedding2
Kind of tells you exactly where Welch's coming from.
“Now would be a good time to throw a big cocktail party in New York or Washington, and invite every single conservative writer you know. #RedWedding2”
That’s the full quote. Did Welch call for “…all conservative writers be invited to a red-wedding style mass-slaughter…”? If in your fevered dreams, he WAS calling for that, was it for the party-going writers to be the dishers-out of the violence, as the victims, or as mere spectators? If as spectators, for their amusement, or to demonstrate the real horrors of real violence to them? Or, to see MOVIES about red weddings? … Y’all LOVE to rush to judgments, without any data, don’t you? Whenever doing so, fits YOUR story line!
Are YOU criticizing Welch for this questionable-meaning(s) allusion? I, for one, would urge adults who want to understand the ugliness of violence and revenge, to see “Clockwork Orange”. That has ZERO to do with me threatening ANYONE!!! Hello?!?!
If YOU are criticizing Welch for this, then this is VERY rich, coming from YOU, you literal and explicit peddler of suicide!
Mammary-Necrophilia-Fuhrer, Supreme Demonic Director of Decay, Destruction, and Death, will now SPEAK! HARKKK silently and RESPECTFULLY, all ye lowly heathens, as She Directs Death, and announces WHICH few of us MIGHT deserve to live, and WHO all deserves to DIE-DIE-DIE!!!
https://reason.com/2022/01/25/did-these-three-officers-willfully-deprive-george-floyd-of-his-constitutional-rights/?comments=true#comment-9323626 “You should really join ᛋᛋqrlsy, ᛋᛋhrike. You two goosestepping fascists offing yourselves would definitely be a mitzvah.”
-Quote MammaryBahnFuhrer the “Expert Christian Theologian”, AKA Mother’s Lament, with a head full of cement
So Mammary-Necrophilia-Fuhrer, Supreme Demonic Director of Decay, Destruction, and Death… WHEN are You going to STOP stealing the IDs of Your victims, and then posting kiddie porn in THEIR names, and then blaming THEM?
Inquiring minds want to KNOW, dammit!
Follow the links and see lots of references to movies and TV shows, etc.
“Party at my place. Invite your teenaged relatives and friends. #StarWars”
Did I just issue an invitation to blow up (“I sense disturbances in the Force”) entire planets full of teenagers, using Death Stars? … Well, yes, if you hate me and my kind, and honesty means NOTHING to you, I could see you using my party invitation that way, sure…
I’m sorry that you suffer under the illusion that you know exactly what Matt Welch meant by that. There are MANY possible interpretations!
Below is my interpretation:
He meant that the conservatives should be invited to a party in which “Red Wedding” is screened for all viewers, so that conservatives (ESPECIALLY Trump-cultist conservatives) could learn exactly WHAT it is like, to be invited to a party, in order for KILLINGS happen! And then maybe the Party of Trump Cultists will STOP inviting YOU to THEIR Party, in which democracy is deliberately murdered!!! (I know that it is WAAAAY too much to ask, that they should actually STOP trying to murder democracy, there in the Trump-Cult Party.)
MAN THE BARRICADES!!! The Satanic witches and Lizard People have stolen Trump’s erection; OUR erections!!! Our contaminated erections and formerly-pure essences are now being ground up into spamburger and are being force-fed to the children by Satanic groomers, who will turn the children into transsexual trannies from Transsexual Transylvania, and FORCE then to engorge in utterly demonic “Drag Queen Story Hours”!!!! Won’t someone PLEASE think of the children?!?!?
#MeInTheAss’CauseI’maGullibleLowBrowBlowHardConTard
#LibertariansDefendingTheStolenErections!!!
(I can tell ye all, Stormy Daniels for ONE, is VERY pissed OFF about those Stolen Erections, dammit all!!! It was ALL in HER hands, and FRAUD turned it all into soft, substance-all-stolen MUSH!!! Sidney Powell AGREES, and will say so IN COURT!!! GIVE US ALL OUR HONEST PRO-TRUMP ERECTIONS ***BACK***, DAMMIT!!!)
Not too lazy to click; will not click on any tweet; the stuff of idiots.
Yes, I include Trump and don't care; if an idiot delivers wonderful results, I'll take the idiot.
Defense to. See the article about Trump and Ukraine where Boehm says Trump obviously lied that we are running out of ammunition because we're sending it to Ukraine, when a simple google search (or go to RealClearDefense) would have resulted in multiple sources from experts in defense like the Army Times, Janes etc stating that this is exactly the case. Trump is correct Boehm is wrong. I doubt Boehm will issue a correction though. It's not all ammunition but some really fucking important shit like artillery shells, anti-tank man portable systems, man portable SAMs etc.
Do you recall the awesome enchanter named “Tim”, in “Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail”? The one who could “summon fire without flint or tinder”? Well, you remind me of Tim… You are an enchanter who can summon persuasion without facts or logic!
So I discussed your awesome talents with some dear personal friends on the Reason staff… Accordingly…
Reason staff has asked me to convey the following message to you:
Hi Fantastically Talented Author:
Obviously, you are a silver-tongued orator, and you also know how to translate your spectacular talents to the written word! We at Reason have need for writers like you, who have near-magical persuasive powers, without having to write at great, tedious length, or resorting to boring facts and citations.

Thank You! -Reason Staff
Remember, turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.
If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit.
I don't call them socialists because they're both obviously corporatists, just like the Nazis, and very effective ones at that.
He didnt admit he was wrong. He proclaimed it clear hyperbole. He just changed his argument but the same conclusion.
Just a question, 'running out' doesn't necessarily mean shortages, does it? Armaments have a shelf life and anti-tank ammo has to be near its sell by date, given that it was 20 years ago that the US military faced enemy tank action. The Russian navy's submarine Kursk disaster shows what happens when old ammo, torpedoes in this case, isn't replaced. ie stock piles may be low, but 'running out' of obsolete ammo might be a good thing. Especially if it can kill some Russians.
Tim copypasta is Shillsy's white flag. It's his giving up shitpost.
You have to be some serious kind of retard to try to convince people that by "Red Wedding" Welch wasn't meaning THAT Red Wedding.
Next he's going to try to tell us that saying "Use the Force, Luke" isn't invoking Star Wars. We don't call him "Shillsy" for nothing.
Somebody's lying to Angelina Jolie about the author of these articles. For shame! She might spread that lie to her passel o' younguns! )
Fuck off and die, asshole. Go pimp your blog where idiots like you congregate.
The problem isn't running out of obsolete ammo -- the problem is the fact that we're going through it faster than we can replace it.
And that's going to leave us vulnerable in the next war.
To be fair, though, America has a long history of going into conflict unprepared. Indeed, when Democrats decided to separate from the rest of the country, both sides were unprepared for the conflict!
Maybe later. Right now I'm preparing for my next war on Christmas. Last year it didn't go so well. Christmas won. 🙁

"the problem is the fact that we’re going through it faster than we can replace it."
Maybe that's a problem for Ukraine. How is it a problem for me or my countrymen?
If this shortage is preventing US from getting more deeply involved in the conflict of Sudan, for example, anti-war types should be kvelling, not kvetching.
I see! So you’re saying that the Intergalactic Sub-Smegmonic Boogoidian-Strawmen-Hybrids have deployed booger-beams (Those unspeakable BASTARDS) and have hijacked your tinfoil hat! You have my sympathies, but no more… I have no good advice for you, sorry! Other victims of the Intergalactic Sub-Smegmonic Boogoidian-Strawmen-Hybrids that I have known? They all ended up on Skid Row, and I could NOT help them!
It's also a problem if a country decides to attack us directly. Sure, it seems impossible now, but with all the different ways Pretendant Biden has been weakening us, it's only a matter of time before our enemies decide to take pot shots or worse at us.
I don't see any chance for a direct attack as long as Russia is fighting in Ukraine. All America's potential enemies from Iran to Venezuela are lining up diplomatically and economically behind Russia and China, and I don't see them initiating aggression until Donbas and Crimea are settled and the shooting stops. There's always Taiwan but time is on China's side. Wait long enough and Taiwan will return to the fold without a shot being fired.
America has been weakening as a military capable of occupying overseas colonies since Vietnam. It's very expensive to run an empire well. Perhaps it's even more expensive to do it on the cheap. As for Biden, at least he pulled out of Afghanistan, though conceivably some other president might have kept them on, so it could be worse. There's always a chance war will break out to boost the incumbent's support in an election year, but I'm pretty sure that would backfire for a lot of reasons. And Biden surely knows this, or knew it. He's been around since the 70's, and if there's one thing he knows how to do it's gauging the public's mood.
Is it true that Trump could have pulled out the troops from Afghanistan during his term in office rather than leaving it to after the elections? I suspect that Trump feared a fiasco during an Afghan pull out late in his first term would spoil his chances at the polls.

Biden's pullout of Afghanistan was so disastrous, that it would have been better had we stayed there for the remainder of his term in office. Indeed, it was a major factor that convinced Putin that he could invade Ukraine.
I do not trust Pretendant Biden in keeping us out of any major wars. We are lucky that he hasn't accidentally plunged us into nuclear war yet. (Although, to be fair, it may merely be because, despite all their bluster, Russia doesn't have the capability of launching a full-scale nuclear attack.)
"Biden’s pullout of Afghanistan was so disastrous,"
That's a given. Losing a war will do that. Luckily it wasn't as disastrous as it could have been. They don't call Afghanistan the grave yard of empires for nothing.
Do you really think Biden should have kept the troops in Afghanistan until 2024? What do you think it would accomplish? As for persuading Putin, I'm no mind reader, but I think it's safe to say that America's withdrawal went a lot more smoothly than the Soviet withdrawal decades earlier. America had the cooperation and assistance of the insurgent Taliban, while the Soviets didn't.
"That’s a given. Losing a war will do that. Luckily it wasn’t as disastrous as it could have been. They don’t call Afghanistan the grave yard of empires for nothing."
I suppose you're right about that. The US could have accidentally set off a nuke while trying to pull out.
"Do you really think Biden should have kept the troops in Afghanistan until 2024? What do you think it would accomplish?"
Not necessarily until 2024 -- but the troop should have waited until all the civilian contractors and Afghani allies had been pulled out, before being taken out themselves. If we had stayed until 2024 or beyond to do that (which is a real possibility, given the incompetency of this administration), then so be it.
"As for persuading Putin, I’m no mind reader, but I think it’s safe to say that America’s withdrawal went a lot more smoothly than the Soviet withdrawal decades earlier. America had the cooperation and assistance of the insurgent Taliban, while the Soviets didn’t."
Actually, the Soviets made sure their civilians and allies were taken out of Afghanistan before leaving, and then organized a parade that left Afghanistan behind, leaven them to themselves. The Soviet withdrawal was better organized than ours.
Look, I know you're a shill for this mal-Administration. But I'm also really tired of being peed on and told it's lemonade.
Indeed. Amd I’m a side note, you mentioned the Vegas shooter. What really was the deal with that?
CNN is a good fit for ENB. They can put her right next to that bitch kaitlyn Collins.
