The British government has proposed a bill that would make it illegal for men to whistle or make a pass at women on the street. The Protection from Sex-Based Harassment in Public Bill will make it illegal to cause "intentional harassment, alarm or distress" to a person in public based on their sex. Those found guilty of violating the law face up to two years in prison.

"Two plus two no longer equals four, according to members of the Ontario Mathematics Coordinators Association (OMCA), who consider the equation to be a white-supremacist dog whistle instead of a basic mathematical truth.

According to a webinar created by OMCA president Jason To, proponents of math’s political neutrality who use the phrasing “2 + 2 = 4” are engaged in an act of “Covert White Supremacy.”

In one tweet, Theijsmeijer pointed her followers to commentary by Laurie Rubel, an associate professor of mathematics education, explaining that proponents of “2 + 2 = 4” are grounded “in white, Western mathematics that marginalizes other possible values.”

Rubel argued that supporters of math’s political neutrality were oblivious to a deeper point: “It’s about truth: who holds the truth, who decides what is true, and how open we are as a society to multiple truths.” Although Rubel acknowledged the equation “literally” equals four, the statement is “used as a kind of basic truth & way to ridicule many critiques of mathematics as white and as western and as exclusionary.”

Rubel’s beliefs are becoming widespread among Ontario’s leading mathematics bodies, senior administrators, and a compliant academic establishment, according to several teachers whose accounts were substantiated by educational materials reviewed by National Review.

Also evil, because they're actively damaging the chances of any "disadvantaged" students to *escape* that position by understanding numbers and being able to use them to lift themselves. That's the funny part. We use an Arabic numeral system.

And it's not just symbolic either. Or, rather, it's integral to the historic adoption of mathematics as symbolic operations. That is, the representation of "4" as "2+2" may be a superficial trifle, but the representation of "1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1" as "10" and "10+1" as "11" is essentially non-Western and critical to higher and "lower" mathematics.

Indian, actually. Arab traders borrowed them from India, then the (mostly Greek) Byzantines borrowed them from the Arabs. Modern Arabic actual uses significantly different symbols. But, then or now, Indian, Arab and Greek mathematicians would all agree that 2+2=4. (Stipulating that you’re calculating in base 10.) Kinda blows the “white supremacy” silliness out of the water, since the Greeks were the only one of those groups that would count as even vaguely white. (Not that "whiteness" was even really a thing back then.)

The definition of truth is being distorted based on the saying that everyone has their own truth which isn't really true. You do have your own set of experiences and situations but that is not truth although some people say they have their own truth. Now they are using a new definition of truth to lie.

2=2= anything other than four is a lie.
