Brickbat: Finger-Licking Good

Vera Liddell, former director of food services at Harvey School District 152 in Illinois, has been charged with financial crimes and theft. The Cook County State's Attorney's office said Liddell embezzled some $1.5 million in chicken wings from the school system. Liddell placed orders for the food from July 2020 to February 2022 through the school's food vendor. And she picked it up in a school van. But the orders weren't authorized. The district doesn't even serve wings. The theft was discovered through a routine audit. Authorities said they still aren't sure what she did with the wings.

Probably sold them to feather her nest.
But her plan laid an egg.
"Authorities said they still aren't sure what she did with the wings."
The wings took wing and flew off to chicken-parts unknown! And then the authorities were left wingless-buffaloed!
(Maybe they should check with a certain wingman, a Colonel in Kentucky, and see if this wings any bells with him.)

The most common wing heist MO is to shuffle off to Buffalo.
I'm gonna just wing it and say that the school district got buffaloed, at first, butt then the chickens came home to roost!
A poultry amount of fowl play.
She thought she’d pulled quite a coop, but it was never going to fly .

They actually have film of her picking up 11,000 cases of chicken wings in the school van? I'd suspect she might be placing orders with a certain someone in the food vendor's office but not actually picking up the food. This is Cook County after all - $1.5 mil is petty theft for a contractor.
So, you're saying there may be a fox in the hen house?
The linked article says "Surveillance video showed that Liddell showed up at Gordon Food Service to pick up the food orders and would leave with them in a district cargo van".
But my question is, why wasn't this noticed the *first* year she did it? Wouldn't she have been massively over budget?
The US Department of Defense says, “Hold my beer.”
I suspect she placed these orders when she was otherwise under budget with her regular orders.
"Wouldn’t she have been massively over budget?" She just had to cut costs for the lunches actually served to students.
Liddell doesn’t have a leg to stand on. Thanks for keeping us abreast.
At 15.99 per ten pound bag at Gordon's. a 1.5 megabuck wing heist entails moving 1,171 bags a week. If she had accomplices with a fryer, she could have cleared fifty grand a week, not counting Superbowls .
I'm sure if you look into it you'll find a friend or relative who owns a chicken restaurant that she was selling these to.
Authorities said they still aren't sure what she did with the wings.
AND THEY DON'T WANNA KNOW.
Well, the "authorities" SAY they don't know what she did with the wings, but she and they are all morbidly obese.
They will all file for disability due to being fatties and their clogged arteries.
JFC, Reason! Are we just supposed to infer Vera Liddell's skin color?

It's Harvey, Illinois. There's fairly good odds it's not pale.
So dark meat then?
$1.5 million in chicken wings.
Go big or go home, huh?
So at $16 for 10#, $1.5 million = 937,500 pounds of wings. Follow that money.

picked Peltola. Ergo, Peltola received Democratic and Republican votes and prevailed with over 51 percent of the final tally. (The general election saw a largely similar result, with the same three candidates, plus a Libertarian, in November.)
Critics, such as Palin, contend that ranked choice is too complicated and that its convoluted nature amounts to voter suppression. But 85 percent of Alaskans polled said they found it "simple."
Ranked choice could do more than just scramble two-party races. Historically, a major obstacle for third-party candidates is the idea that a vote for a long shot is a vote wasted. But on a ranked choice ballot, voters can rank every candidate in a given race. Over time, that could lead more voters to consider candidates outside the two parties.
Ranked choice also eliminates the need for runoff elections. More than 10 states conduct runoffs when no candidate achieves a
