Bernie Sanders-Backed John Fetterman Prevails in Pennsylvania
Voters told exit pollsters they had little confidence in the ability of either Fetterman or Oz to represent Pennsylvania.

Well, somebody had to win.
Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman, a Democrat, held on despite a late surge from television doctor Mehmet Oz, Republican, in the hotly contested Pennsylvania Senate race. Fetterman, a firebrand progressive who had been endorsed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I–Vt.), overcame concerns about his health after suffering a stroke in May, and a shaky debate performance, to prevail after an intensely negative campaign.
As of 1 a.m. on Wednesday, when NBC News and Fox News called the race, Fetterman had about 49.4 percent of the vote and Oz had 48.2 percent. The gap between the two candidates was slightly more than 60,000 votes—while Libertarian candidate Erik Gerhardt collected just over 66,000 votes.
The race wasn't focused heavily on policy issues, but Fetterman's win does shift the makeup of the next Senate in key ways. Keep in mind, this is the seat currently occupied by Sen. Pat Toomey (R–Pa.), a consistent conservative who never fell under the thrall of Trumpism. Not only will it become a Democratic seat, but Fetterman is unlikely to be a centrist in the mold of his neighbor to the southwest, Sen. Joe Manchin (D–W.Va.).
Fetterman's narrow win was an apt microcosm of the biggest races in the midterms, in which a supposed "red wave" failed to materialize. Oz's chances may have been dragged down by the poor performance of Republican gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano (a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump) who lost by double-digits on Tuesday night.
Even as they voted Tuesday, many Pennsylvanians seemed unsure whether either candidate was capable of doing the job. An exit poll from NBC News showed that 56 percent of voters believed Oz had not lived in the state long enough to accurately represent Pennsylvania. Meanwhile, the same exit poll reported that 49 percent of voters believed Fetterman was not healthy enough to be an effective senator.
Compared to Oz, Fetterman looks like a career politician. But his record as a one-term lieutenant governor and the longtime mayor of Braddock, a small town in western Pennsylvania's coal country, offer few clues about how he will vote as a senator.
One noteworthy thing for libertarians: As Gov. Tom Wolf's second-in-command between since 2019, Fetterman worked to streamline the state's clemency system and Board of Pardons to give a second chance to some individuals serving life sentences. Oz tried to turn that against him amid a modest rise in crime, but the attacks—including calling Fetterman "the most pro-murderer candidate in America"—were apparently insufficient.
But Fetterman's views on other issues are harder to suss out. He flip-flopped in a cringe-worthy manner during the Senate debate on a question about fracking and energy policy. Since suffering a stroke in May, Fetterman has held few campaign events and given only limited interviews.
In the end, that was good enough—even though exit polls suggest plenty of voters have major concerns about Fetterman's health going forward.
This was never a race about ideas or the future of the country, but someone had to win. Fetterman did, barely.

Oops.
Since Fetterman's a drooling, brain-damaged retard, who's actually going to be in charge?
Fetterman's wife.
Nice to see that Pennsylvanians prefer a drooling retard to a doctor.
To reference Aesop's Fables, Fetterman is King Log, Oz is King Stork.
Trumpism is such a blight on the country that a drooling moron is objectively preferable to anyone Trump endorses. At least a drooling idiot just sits around doing nothing.
Quit sockpuppeting, Shrike.
Libertarians sure as hell do.
It is sad to see Socialists having dramatically more sense than Libertarians. Socialists do not love the Dems, but they recognize they can have more influence with them if they work with them.
Republicans are seeing less and less reason to even humor libertarians. Good job, LP. Way to be outsmarted and have far less influence than fucking Socialists.
I make more then $12,000 a month online. It’s enough to comfortably replace my old jobs income, especially considering I only work about 11 to 12 hours a week from home. I was amazed how easy it was after I tried it…

Trust the science!
As Fetterman is distinctly incapacitated, the Senate should refuse to seat him.
Nonsense. I'm sure he can manage the famous Trump Mental Acuity Test: "person, woman, man, camera, tv"...
Fetterman and Biden both cannot.
"Fetterman and Biden both cannot."
Nonsense. Biden isn't a genius and his age undoubtedly effects his acuity. However, he's far above Fetterman. Fetterman is clearly mentally incompetent for the job.
Disagree. Fetterman is light years ahead of Biden, and has a chance to recover cognitive ability over time. When you watch Biden, you're watching him at the best he'll ever be.

They can. It takes a 2/3 vote.
His wife, even more radical than him. Just shows PA voters are low IQ.
Having their energy industry ravaged seems like a deserved sentence for them now. Congrats fellows. I will miss ever seeing gas below $3 nationally ever again.
I think Fetterman is only a place holder, who will be declared medically unfit for office and then replaced by the governor at some point.
I’ve made $1250 so far this week working online and I’m a full time student. I’m using an online business opportunity I heard about and I’AM made such great money. It’s really user friendly and I’m just so happy that I found out about it. Here’s what I do for more information simply.

Yep. That seat is a favor waiting for some big-money donor who wants some prestige.

Once again, libertarians wasting their vote resulted in the least libertarian candidate actually winning the election.
I guess compared to Pres. Biden, Fetterman seemed articulate and coherent?
They're both vegetables, but Fetterman wasn't anywhere near as scummy as Biden before becoming incapacitated.

I've heard of yellow dog democrats , but, wow. A yellow lab would have been a better choice then this moron. At least they can understand English.
offer few clues about how he will vote as a senator.
He'll vote democrat party line, 100% of the time. Of course. Why would you expect otherwise?
It is the magic of the Republican party that they put up a candidate so utterly awful that he can't beat a dude with brain damage. They have the miraculous ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
I still thought Oz would pull it out against a guy who's brain is gone, but ya GOP shot themselves in the foot.
I dont know how to spin this any way other than a pretty nasty L though. The guy is a deadbeat socialist who cant speak or comprehend. That PA would take him over what the R's offered up should be a message that needs to be remembered.
I said it last night, but when you look at how the Trump Brand did last night (underperforming), vs the DeSantis Brand (way overperforming), we may very well finally see Trump heading off to the sunset. Trump didn't even run and his candidates by and large fell flat, or lost, in a year where Republicans lead on the top issue (economy) by 10 points. Meanwhile, DeSantis not only won, but around his state we see that his coat tails were an escalator.
This isn't about who "should" have won. This is straight political machinery. If you are a candidate in 2024, whose endorsement do you want, based on these results? That goes to funding. That goes to networking, and building your presidential machine. The opportunists who have been grudgingly showing him respect for the past 6 years now have every reason to begin showing him the door.
He was a good President, but Trump ruined this election. Kathy Barnette would have wiped the floor with Fetterman but Trump and Hannity had a hard-on for Oz. JD Vance, it has been noticed, specifically did not thank Trump in his victory speech.
But Oz wasn't Trump's first choice for the nomination. He was friendly to Trump, acceptable to Trump, but Trump preferred another candidate who had a shot in the primary.
Trump is 1-1 personally in runs. He won in an upset in 2016, then lost an even match in 2020. No matter how well DeSantis did, it's hard not to nominate Trump again on that record vs. someone who's never been prez and is young enough to have several runs in the future.
DeSantis did great with Hispanics, but it was Trump who broke that ice.
At least the Rs won't try blaming the loss on Islamophobia.

I don't understand the PA GOP. The primary was a close contest between a guy from Connecticut and a guy from New Jersey. Oz didn't even own a house in PA when he started running, he used his in-laws' address to register his candidacy. I tbink he still doesn't have a PA residence, and it's not like he doesn't have a bunch of houses.
There are plenty of homegrown Republicans who wouldn't be so easily painted as carpetbaggers. Why wasn't one of them recruited early? I'm certain the difference in the race came down to the fact that Oz had no connection to PA.
It is a bit shocking that the dude whose brain is mush AND who chased a black guy down with a shotgun for literally no reason was the winner in that election.
Although the fact that Oz is a snake oil salesman probably didn't help, either. He has a long history of peddling miracle cures and weight loss drugs. It definitely undermines his "trust me, I'm a doctor" message.

Hmm, your ad with multiple spelling mistakes and awkward grammar does not inspire confidence in your product. But I suppose the typical C- college student can't tell the difference.
Still could get elected to high office in the USA. Maybe other countries too.
I was not aware that affirmative action included the neural deficient in managerial positions. How progressive.
Judging by some of the managers I have met some companies seem to require it.
Fette4man being backed by Bernie Sanders suggests that he was brain damaged before the stroke.
Nobody needs functioning frontal lobes. 😉
At least not that many.
This is what Reason campaigned for.
But his record as a one-term lieutenant governor and the longtime mayor of Braddock, a small town in western Pennsylvania’s coal country, offer few clues about how he will vote as a senator.
He’s a Democrat endorsed by Bernie Sanders. You don’t exactly have to be Sherlock Holmes. He’s going to press whatever button his party tells him to, just like every other senator. Let’s not pretend this is just a group of honest people sitting around and rationally voting on the best policy.
Yeah, he is an unabashed progressive. It's not a secret. He will bolster the left wing of the Democratic party in the Senate.
Now, now, it's unfair to expect Reason to be able to see this.
Yeah. That's what PA's senior senator does. He just does whatever the Democrat establishment wants him to do. We never hear anything from him or see him anywhere. Then people vote to re-elect him because they recognize his name on the ballot.
Fetterwoman you sexist misogynist Nazi!
If that is your kink, but it needs to be consensual.
It would do well to remember that both parties had better candidates for the Pennsylvania Senate seat and that the primary system knocked them out. Rather than selecting better candidates the primary system seems to be selecting worse ones.
Yes, Fetterman is an acolyte of Senator Sanders, but Oz was merely a token for Trump. What I see as good in the election is that there are limits to far a carpetbagger can get in an election. For whatever faults and limitations he has Fetterman will likely represent Pennsylvania better than his opponent.
I’m pretty sure he’s just going to represent The Party nationally. Even If that meant turning Pennsyltucky into a nuclear test zone.
Fetterman is not going to represent PA. Fetterman is going to represent the people who bankrolled him, who are rabid progressives whose policy preferences will do NOTHING to help Pennsylvanians, and eveything to hurt them.
Years ago, Missouri Democrats elected a dead person to Congress. Pennsylvania Dems put this incapacitated puppet in office, and nationwide Dems selected Biden to convalesce in the white house. I'm beginning to think they don't really care WHO represents them, as long as there is a D by their name.
Why elect a person at all?
Basically. If there is a D, they will vote for them. If actual Nazis ran as Democrats, they'd get tons of votes.
Could you not say the same for Republicans and point to Walker in GA and Oz in PA?
I can speak as to Walker in GA and say actually no. I have multiple co-workers today who specifically voted L because they couldn't bring themselves to vote for Walker. They are generally pretty consistent R voters, and voted for Kemp
That's good to know there's some light in voters yet. Maybe there will be hope for the next Election. First, though, voters must ask themselves what brought them to their awful choice of poisons this Election.
Sorry to the first replier to Jimbojr. I accidentally hit the "Flag" button.
Rest assured, I want everything laid out there and I would never flag anyone deliberately, not even Misek, BioBehavioral, or any of our other low-lifes.
Did either win?
Because "Racist preacher who evicts people over small amounts of late rent" and "Racist brain-addled trust fund baby" are who the Dems did vote for.
Run candidates that are actually from your state, run on the foibles of Democrats. Beating a Dollar General Bernie Sanders should have been a slam dunk.
Carpetbagging only works if you are a Clinton. Oz won a crowded primary by 951 votes. At least Fetterman's health can improve, while Biden's on a one way slide down. While Fetterman promised to "make Washington listen;" he will vote 100% as he is told. Oz may have won if the GOP candidate for governor hadn't been so toxic to the Phila. collar counties. Couldn't SCOTUS have found some way to delay the Roe v. Wade decision until after Nov. 8th; don't energize your enemies when they are running out of power.
Maybe the difference between Clinton and Oz is that Clinton had the smarts to know the state she was running in. Clinton works for her votes and Oz was lazy.
Ill give you that they ran Hillary in a better state (for her chances) than Oz, but in terms of "work" for votes...she was elected because its NY and she was a big D name.
If Michelle Obama ran in NY for senator, she wouldn't win for her "work" she would because she is a popular first lady among the party.
Hillary was such a bad candidate the only thing she has been able to achieve by the vote is a safe NY election, and a bunch of roles she got with no work (gov wife, first lady, secy of state all appointments with no work...won primary in 2016 due to DNC actively sabotaging sanders and super delegates). The DNC tried to make her happen similar to Abrams, and her constant failures made her unable to actually win anything on her own
Hillary used her own and the DNC political machines.
NY voters would elect Michelle because she would be a skin suit they can put on and strut around.
Agree here, both parties had better choices.
Fetterman?
LOL.
They voted in a literal far-left vegetable who lives off his parents.
That's the youth vote right there.
What happened to the week or two we were told they were going to need to finish counting all the votes in PA?
The Dems got the manufactured ballots in early.
Funny that, eh?
When things were tight and the R candidate is a couple points ahead, its "wait a week, we need time to count" and when things are tight with the D candidate up, its "OK we are good, definitely no need to hedge here".
Oz was a bad choice, but why isnt he getting the benefit of the doubt Biden got when he was trailing massively after election day counts?
Fewer people voted by mail this election, ballots cast at a polling place are significantly faster to count.
Pennsylvania decided the ideal representation of the citizens of the state was a brain damaged trust fund brat. Seems like they have some degree of self-awareness.
Fetterman, "Health care is a fundamental human right."
....And everyone in the healthcare business is MY personal SLAVE!!!
Democrats cheer......
Still the party of slavery.
If the PA candidates, race, and election outcome are not signs of the apocalypse, then WTF are?
Democracy, good and hard.
Without lube!
So, Pennsylvanians chose the woozy-headed over the Woo-peddler.
For letting themselves get into such a rotten predicament, Philadelphia should give up all rights to claim Philly Cheesesteaks and Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese and Independence Hall as their own! Such treats are only worthy of a freedom-loving people!
Freedom is racist!
Democrats faring better than they deserve in this midterm is all fine and dandy, but if I hear another democrat at the grocery store complain about the price of groceries or gas I might throw an apple at them

"Dr Oz - even worse than Fetterman!"
PA GOP has been an embarrassment for a long time and this is nothing new. Mastriano was a shit candidate. Oz wasn’t a bad candidate, but he didn’t campaign enough on the issues, he didn’t aggressively attack the carpetbagger argument, and he didn’t spend enough time in our largest population centers.
Complete misread by the party officials from start to finish. Time to replace the party leadership. Assuming he makes it through his term, Fetterman will either get primaried or lose to whoever the R is in 2028. Seriously doubt that Casey will lose on fourth term. He doesn’t receive the same notoriety as Manchin, but he is one of the few semi-sane Democrats who will put PA before the national party. He has flip flopped harder than Manchin, but there’s not enough bad stuff about Casey to flip him in 2024. We’ll have to wait until 2028 sadly.
PA definitely lost this election cycle. All up to Casey to save us at this point. Shapiro and Fetterman are clowns.
Cognitively impaired socialist won. What could possibly go wrong?
Fetterman was a cretin before the stroke. The biggest winner in this race is AOC, who will no longer be the least lucid person on Capitol Hill.

Is Fetterman related to the 19th century guy who owned so much land in West Virginia he had a town named after him?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fetterman,_West_Virginia
Not only did they elect a seven foot tall drooling turnip but Pennsylvanians also voted for and elected a dead man. Tony DeLuca who passed away in October remained on the ballot and won re-election. Joe Biden called to congratulate DeLuca on his victory.
DeLuca also cast his vote for Fetterman.
Congratulations Penn voters! You elected two brain dead people.
You get the kind of government you deserve. Don't complain and don't expect the rest of us to nail your arse out.
Unbelievable that this half baked eggplant won. Ever hear him try to speak. Makes Biden seem like a supreme orator. Should start a third party for retards.
No need... Democrats have them pretty covered 🙂
I don't think there will be much different whether a retard or a crook wins. They would have both sucked but at least PA can now legalize recreational weed I guess
I blame the state and national Republican committee for fielding such poor candidates in both PA and GA. They couldn't find better than a snake oil doctor from Jersey and an ex football player?
Great article, Mike. I appreciate your work, i’m now creating over $35000 dollars each month simply by doing a simple job online! i do know You currently making a lot of (ubs-16) greenbacks online from $28000 dollars, its simple online operating jobs.
