Brickbat: Weeding Them Out

Former San Bernardino County, Calif., planning commissioner Gabriel Chavez has pleaded guilty to bribery in federal court. Chavez funneled bribe money from people seeking cannabis business permits to then-Baldwin Park city council member Ricardo Pacheco. Pacheco pleaded guilty to bribery in June 2021 and is awaiting sentencing.

I'm shocked, shocked, that arcane rules and tight controls on this type of business would result in corruption.
The irony is that it’s related to a substance, marijuana, that the state knew was federally prohibited. So they went ahead and created an entire regulatory regime to give dope some undeserved legitimacy.
In doing that, the legislature itself was part of a corrupt scheme to collect money by trafficking an illicit drug.
It, and all drugs should be legal and the drug 'war' should end.
Great article, Mike. I appreciate your work, I’m now creating over $35400 dollars each month simply by doing a simple job online! I do know You currently making a lot (ks-58) of greenbacks online from $28000 dollars, its simple online operating jobs

I am making 80 US dollars per hr. to complete some internet services from home. I did not ever think it would even be achievable , however my confidant mate got $13k only in four weeks, easily doing this best assignment and also she convinced me to avail.

"undeserved legitimacy" on a libertarian blog? Go away.
It's also a drug that everyone who has honestly looked at the issues knows is misclassified. The corruption starts with the feds that continue prohibiting a natural substance that causes fewer fatal overdoses than Tylenol, is clearly less dangerous than heavy drinking plus chain-smoking tobacco, and has had known medical uses for centuries.
This kind of corruption has been going on since the drug war started. And in case you haven't heard, the war against pot is NOT over in California.
Back when they voted to "legalize" marijuana the common saying was "legalize it so we can tax it". Progressives didn't care about legalization they only cared about the tax revenues. Latinos and Black behind bars? Progressives don't give a shit because they're white and get a free pass when they get caught toking.
Actually, progressives give many shits since they use racial disparities in drug arrests as political fodder.
They will talk about that yes, but they don't care where it actually matters. It's why Hyper-Progressive Kamala Harris was one of the biggest drug warriors out there. She was in charge of perpetuating that racial disparity.
That's one of many things that they don't want to fix and lose as an issue.
Of course it would be two guys named Chavez and Pacheco involved in shady weed business. It couldn't be Smythe-Rogers and O'Shaunausy, could it?
In all fairness, Comm'rs Smythe-Rogers and O’Shaunausy were probably busy with their own misappropriation schemes back in Boston.
O'Shaunausy and his brothers make money by 'resurfacing' people's driveways with 'extra tarmac from another job'. In between selling moody goods out of the back of a van.
At least it wasn't Cheech and Chong.
I thought the whole point of prohibition was for people in government to make money. I THOUGHT THIS WAS AMERICA.
Damned Mexicans are too open about bribery.
The law in Massachusetts practically legalized extortion of marijuana businesses. One mayor was sent to federal prison for getting too greedy. https://www.justice.gov/usao-ma/pr/former-fall-river-mayor-sentenced-six-years-federal-prison

If only a slim majority of the voting public could become enlightened, and if only we could get the right personx's in charge, it would be utopia. Right?
Both parts are wrong. A slim minority has proven itself capable of repealing protection of rights and instituting religious prohibitionism and ungodly communist income taxes. The LP has been effective, despite all infiltration, in weakening and even repealing a large number of coercive laws that kill individuals and wreck the economy. The Kleptocracy sells the lie that the only votes that count are votes for added coercion. Their dupes crowd forth to swallow it.
These are non-violent criminals, and only a racist barbarian would suggest they spend one minute in prison over these alleged white collar crimes.
Waitaminnit... The fanatics are starting to ban INFLUENCE-PEDDLING--the bulwark of democracy and justifier of all taxation?!
