Sorry, Biden, Gas Stations Can't Just 'Bring Down the Price'
The average gas station owner makes pennies per gallon of gas sold.

Over the holiday weekend, President Joe Biden discovered a new scapegoat for persistently high gas prices: Americans who own and operate gas stations.
"My message to the companies running gas stations and setting prices at the pump is simple: this is a time of war and global peril," Biden tweeted on Saturday. "Bring down the price you are charging at the pump to reflect the cost you're paying for the product. And do it now."
It arguably lacks the pomposity of former President Donald Trump's memorable tweet that "hereby ordered" American companies to stop doing business in China, but the content is equally unhinged. Biden has been aggressive about using vague executive powers to shape the economy in recent months, but that doesn't change the fact that an American president has no business whatsoever telling gas stations how much to charge at the pump.
If the tweet merely overstepped the limits of executive authority, though, it wouldn't be as noteworthy—that sort of thing is almost an everyday occurrence. It's also a telling example of just how little the Biden administration seems to know about what it believes it can design.
It would take no more than a few minutes of a White House adviser's time to learn that the "companies running gas stations and setting prices at the pump" in most cases aren't companies at all. More than half the gas stations in the country are single-store operations run by an individual or a family, according to the Association for Convenience and Fuel Retailing (NACS), a trade association representing the stores that sell more than 80 percent of the gasoline American consumers use.
A "Shell" or "Exxon" logo on the canopy above a filling station doesn't mean those oil companies own the gas station. All it means is that the station's owners have contracted with that company for the right to advertise the well-known brand. It's the same as having a neon "Coors Light" sign hanging in a bar—which doesn't mean MillerCoors owns the establishment.
And those gas station owners aren't raking in massive profits, either. Over the past five years, retailer gross margins have averaged 10.7 percent of the overall price of gas, according to NACS data. But most of those profits come from selling food, drinks, cigarettes, and the like.
The Hustle, a business and tech newsletter, put together a useful breakdown of the economics of gas stations last year. "Selling gas generally isn't very profitable" due largely to intense price competition among retailers and the ease with which consumers can shop around (because they are literally in their cars). On fuel alone, gas stations have an average margin of 1.4 percent.
If gas stations sold fuel at cost, consumers might hardly notice the difference—but the small-time entrepreneurs running those stations would have a harder time making ends meet.
Biden's ignorance about gas stations sounds like a replay of Sen. Elizabeth Warren's (D–Mass.) attempt at blaming higher food prices on greedy grocery store owners—despite the fact that they often operate on similarly tiny margins. It's also a worrying sign when coupled with the fact that the White House has ordered the Department of Justice and FBI to investigate companies for earning "illicit profits" due to inflation. How can the Biden administration be trusted to police companies' profits when it is demonstrating such economic illiteracy?
Biden's gas station tweet is "either straight ahead misdirection or a deep misunderstanding of basic market dynamics," tweeted Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, a man who knows a bit about what it takes to run a successful business. Meanwhile, the U.S. Oil and Gas Association, an industry group, recommended that the "WH intern who posted this tweet" sign up for a basic economics class.
Maybe Biden should take the class too.

Doesn't making demands over Twitter make Joe Biden an awful, authoritarian dictator?
Literally Hitler.
Well……. senile, retarded Hitler. But still Hitler!
Considering Hitler was born in the 19th century, he'd be like 125 years old now while Biden is...
oh. It checks out. Carry on.
Hey all of ye Reasonoid readers! Do NOT bother to read this article about Joe Biden (or his policies)! Do NOT bother to read (or read about) ANY links, facts, or logic contained in this article and-or video! Do NOT bother to trouble your pretty little heads about silly factual details gathered by useless Reason-writer eggheads!

C’mon, Brandon. We all know you really mean pre teen girls.
You are so fucking funny. You should quit your day job and start making a living doing stand-up.
No need. Democrats have been playing Gov-Gods with GUNS for many years. No Libertarian gives a flying F what National Socialist the Gov-Gods have planned. They have ZERO justifiable authority to be making "plans" to Gov-Gun dictate the economy.
We were promised no more mean tweets!
Democrats lie.
Deal with it.
We were promised no more mean tweets!
But not no more stupid ones.
Hello there.
You are not clever.
It is not meant to seem clever. It is meant to point out the utter hypocrisy, empty headedness, and weak attempts at gaslighting of his own complicity in bringing this loathsome, corrupt, entrenched bureaucrat into the oval office.
But you knew that, didn't you?
You're right, I missed that it was Boehm who was the author. He deserves this sort of mockery.
I wonder how Boehm feels, knowing that he voted for what may be the worst president since LBJ.
Yeah, but Boehm the birdbrain reluctantly voted for Brandon.
(Boehm should be reminded of this incessantly)
To be fair, Biden only had a 40-year record in public office, it was difficult to foresee what kind of idiotic, authoritarian, destructive policies he would be in favor of. It's not Boehm's fault he didn't see this coming.
When you think about it the degree of inculcation required to create adults as empty headed as Boehm and his ilk is impressive.
Who says public schools are failing?
Lessee. Who was running against Biden in 2020, again? The Republicans probably put up a really good candidate.
Who was running for the D’s in 2016?
They never take any responsibility for that. Russia!
Haha.
What was the big problem with Trump, again?
Let's see. Spreading a big lie that the election was stolen, leading to a violent mob trying to disrupt the session of Congress where they were accepting the results of the election.
Boehm the birdbrain, and millions like him probably thought to themselves in November 2020: Yeah, but this time it is different.
Of course, it wasn't different. POTUS Biden's old boss, POTUS Obama, had this assessment of POTUS Biden, "Never underestimate Joe's capacity to fuck things up"
Truer words, never spoken.
Yeah, but if Joe was competent then things would only be worse for the rest of us.
Truth
And he still throws in Trump to justify his vote for Biden.
Boehm’s exact words: “Who do you plan to vote for this year? I am currently not registered to vote in Virginia, where I live. If I change that before the election, I will vote for Jo Jorgensen—unless I believe there is a chance that Joe Biden will somehow fail to win Virginia, in which case I will vote strategically and reluctantly for Biden.”
Virginia went 54% Biden to 44% Trump. If you follow Boehm’s own words above that means Boehm either didn’t vote or voted for Jorgensen.
He probably shouldn’t have mentioned Brandon at all then, eh mike?
Biden just showed us his economic ignorance, and his authoritarian desire to order "the Department of Justice and FBI to investigate companies for earning 'illicit profits' due to inflation" as Boehm writes (an error, as the DOJ press release specifically says they're looking for "Companies that Would Exploit Supply Chain Disruptions to Engage in Anticompetitive Conduct"). But it fits with the Democrats desire to blame workers for inflation.
Regarding tweets, Trump's tweet regarded foreign policy for which he has authority. Biden's tweet regarded the price of gasoline, which is supposed to be regulated by the free market, not by Biden who assumes he can tell companies what to do. He makes that assumption, because since he's been in politics, the government has gained more control over commerce, and that's how Hunter makes the big bucks while the big guy gets 10% that we know of. We also know Hunter pays many of his dad's bills.
Biden merely wants to FORCE gas stations to lower their prices, and LOSE their money, I suppose, although Biden won't say it exactly that way! At the end of the day, Biden wants to be compassionate to gasoline buyers... With OTHER people's money!
Kinda makes me think about how SOME people just LOVE to be compassionate... With OTHER people's wombs!
You know what makes babies, right?
If we were not concerned about morals and ethical behavior, we would revel in progressives conceiving few children and aborting many of those they do conceive.
Eventually they might make progressivism extinct the hard way.
Y'all will thwart the "demographic transition" of the poor, this way... And get more poor people to vote socialist, as your paypack! For YOU being "compassionate" with THEIR wombs, they'll pay you BACK by being compassionate with YOUR money! Karma is a BITCH, for those too stupid to finger it out!
In more detail...
Many conservatives will endlessly piss and moan about how the illegal sub-human immigrants will be dirt-poor and come here and vote socialist. It is well-documented that indeed, many poor folks vote socialist (certainly compared to the rich), INCLUDING THE NATIVE-BORN!!!
Yet VERY often, these EXACT same conservatives will endlessly piss and moan about how poor American native-born folks will use abortion to "back up" failed birth control, fend off "Lying Lothario's" lies, and otherwise use abortion to "climb the demographic transition ladder", reducing family size, to slowly transition OUT of poverty? And therefor REDUCE voting for socialists!!! WTF, conservatives?!?! WHY do you object to the poor socialists voting, when they are voting by being illegal sub-humans, but NOT when they are voting by being poor natives here against the will of their parents?
Can I have ONE guess? "Climb the demographic transition ladder" has "trans" as part of "transition", so therefor it MUST be the same as EVIL "grooming"? Is THAT it?
Abort leftists before they conceive
"You know what makes babies, right?"
You know what makes tooth decay, right? For those SINNERS who eat SUGAR, and do NOT brush their teeth quite right... And since God told me that tooth-decay bacteria have souls... We must PUNISH you AND your dentist, you irresponsible slut ye, who get tooth decay!!! ('Cause I have a YUUUUGE punishment boner, is the REAL root cause here.)
You know what makes babies, right?
You think Shitsy has ever known the touch of a woman that didn't require his own lung power to produce? Why do you think he goes off about lung flutes?
Relax! Just Because I am Right and You are Wrong, Doesn’t Mean that I Want to Steal ‘Your’ Woman
(Or your inflated sex doll, as the case may be.)
Details HERE... http://www.churchofsqrls.com/Do_Gooders_Bad/#_Toc75869271
How I know you're a Democrat... You throw the subject of the hypocrisy about 'abortion' in others faces over gasoline prices??
I guess my question would be; If the LIMITED government party wasn't hypocrites about 'abortion' would you stop voting for National Socialists (i.e. Nazism) and admit that Biden is a Nazi?
OK then... Let's be compassionate... With OTHER people's wombs!
Now does THAT confirm that I am a GOOD (non-RINO) Republican, and NOT a Demon-Crap?
Nope; You've more than demonstrated your approval of Demon-Crap over the years.. My question was would you disapprove and central planning of healthcare, epa, fda, usda, etc, etc, etc if forced reproduction wasn't a right-side dictation goal?
Give Joe a break. He is just imagining that business runs like government--at least the kind of government he wishes for.
Trump did it. That makes Biden literally Trump.
"It's also a telling example of just how little the Biden administration seems to know about _____________"
You know the rest.
It would take no more than a few minutes of a White House adviser's time to learn that the "companies running gas stations and setting prices at the pump" in most cases aren't companies at all…
Does the author really think these statements are made out of ignorance, and not dishonesty?
Nothing that comes out of Brando ‘s mouth isn’t vetted by his party and their cronies, let alone the bullshit he “tweets”.
They full-well know how gas stations are owned and operated, as well as the profit margins. As usual, they’re making shit up in the hopes of turning around Brandon’s approval rating, assuming their voting base is as dumb as the day is long. And they’re not wrong.
Huh. I see no reason to believe it is anything other than ignorance. Why would a career politician have a good idea how a gas station is run?
Huh. I see no reason to believe it is anything other than ignorance. Why would a career politician have a good idea how a gas station is run?
Saved for history's sake. Let no one ever argue that ML was your average commenter interested in current events. The above is an example of Act Blue talking points at their best.
Mike is either imagining that the Smartest People in the Room are a dumb and ignorant as he is (and he apologizes for them) or he is part of the propaganda. No other options are possible.
"Why would a career politician have a good idea how a gas station is run?"
By the Magic Power of Good Intentions! Which is the exact SAME place where they get all these GREAT ideas about how to run our wombs (or wives's or girlfriends's wombs).
Damn those politicians for implanting babies in other peoples' bodies!
Damn those politicians for pandering to the self-righteous Nosenheimers and Buttinskies who INSIST on being compassionate with the wombs of OTHER people!

Biden knows how 7-Eleven and Dunkin' Donuts are run. By Indians and he's not joking.
Honest Injun, Kemo Sabe?!?!?
Lol. That’s right, he did say that. Good thing he’s got a D after his name. He gets a pass.
With so many stupendously awful takes on a daily basis, I find myself asking this question a lot; is the person truly ignorant or is there a more devious intentional nature behind it?
Liarson, Joe "4 bit" Friday; yeah, I'm seeing that "more devious intentional nature" here. They are not here out of curiosity or to engage in meaningful discussion; they are here to post approved talking points.
I generally just mute trolls, but these guys are a little more specialized than that.
Sorry for the confusion, I was replying to Kung regarding media and politicians, not commenters on this site.
To me to be ignorant, there would have to be some facts or evidence behind kungfupowderfinger’s opinion, that I’m not aware of. But kungfupowderfinger’s whole research on Biden’s knowledge of how gas stations work is his feelz.
Sorry, saw that your comment wasn’t directed at me.
"Does the author really think..."
Boehm isn't paid his measly sums to think, or really to even know anything. He is paid to pretend things.
It's a little bit scary how people so overwhelmingly ignorant can be handed the reins of such ridiculous power as the US government. If only people were actually as scared as they should be, we might start dismantling this leviathon.
It’s because we tolerate an infinite amount of absurdity. Instead of just aggressively beating leftists when they run their mouths. This is where we end up.
"reins of such ridiculous power as the US government" <-- The Problem.
>>operations run by an individual or a family
tweet simply an extension of Brandon's previous bigoted remarks about donut shops and 7-11s ... old dog old tricks.
Gas prices aren't high. And even if they were, a few extra bucks at the pump wouldn't matter to liberal capitalists like me and Warren Buffett. We're making more money than ever in this fantastic Biden economy.
#TemporarilyFillingInForButtplug
A. Mean tweets! I thought we were done with them.
B. Why bring Trump into this? TDS forever!
C.
I take the overall point, but this is about as hypocritical way of expressing it as I thought possible. Either the difference is too small to notice, or it isn't; it can't be one thing to one side and the opposite thing to the other.
I'm reminded of the kid who sold Navy Times on my ship; probably an officer's kid judging from his arrogance. Price was 20 cents. Give him a quarter and you had to demand the change. He'd say "it's just a nickle" and I'd respond "Great! Drop your price by a nickle; it's only a nickle" and he'd whine about a tip, and I'd tell him to never join the navy. Everybody in line laughed and he'd cough it up. Damned brat. I'm sure he was an officer's son.
"B. Why bring Trump into this? TDS forever!"
If they could have referenced Jan 6th, they would have.
would fit well in the middle of the first sentence of the third pp.
Are you some kind of capitalist groomer? Shame!
I take the overall point, but this is about as hypocritical way of expressing it as I thought possible. Either the difference is too small to notice, or it isn't; it can't be one thing to one side and the opposite thing to the other.
An average gas consumer buys maybe 15ish gallons of gas per week, probably less. An average filling station sells 50,000ish gallons of gas per week, maybe more. You may not notice the difference between spending $73.80 and $75.00 at the pump in a week, but you'll notice the difference between $250,000 in weekly sales versus $246,250. Because that's nearly $4000 a week not going into your pocket.
I too could cook up any number of arithmetical schemes. The point was about the idiocy of the comparison, not hypothetical cases.
https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/ukraine-says-750bn-needed-rebuild-wants-use-seized-russian-assets
Oil companies like Shell, Exxon, and Chevron usually get a return on investment between 12-20%. By comparison, Apple usually gets 50% return and, until recently, Meta got close to 100% return.
That's why oil stocks lag behind the market in good times - investors can get more for their money investing in the stuff people want, rather than need.
Of course, in bad times, we still have to buy what we need, like food and fuel, and put the fun stuff like Peloton and Netflix on the back burner.
With the huge investment in capital for refineries, producing and dry wells, ships, distribution terminals and gas trucks and the immense sales associated with providing what people need daily, the gross profits are huge. But not in comparison with what went into providing it.
Those profits by the way are to t pay for more exploration and the infrastructure to drill for more oil. The more the government pushes US oil companies from our waters and federal lands, the more money / profits they need to explore further away and with much more cost... which is passed back to the purchaser. Biden's policies raise cost and complain about the companies charging more because he created a huge cost for the companies to go elsewhere to drill. On top of that, every product sold in the US has to be transported by trucks and trains using petroleum products and that cost again... is transferred to the consumer causing rapid inflation. ALL RISING COST DIRECTLY CAUSED BY BIDEN.
They are not that stupid. Biden and his ilk could care less if gas station operators dropped their prices. They are just looking for someone to pass the blame to. The people he's playing to don't know or probably don't care who owns the stations. It's just another cheap shot at those "evil" Capitalists at "Big Oil".
Exactly!
https://simulationcommander.substack.com/p/politicians-are-the-referees-of-america
Take the energy industry as an example. For years Biden claimed he was going to ‘end fossil fuels’.
The obvious result of this would be a drastic increase in the price of energy. Sometimes they even admitted it. But now that the increases are hitting angry Americans right in the pocketbook, it’s time for the politicians to scramble and blame somebody else — ANYBODY else — for the predictable (and predicted) consequences of their actions.
President Biden
@POTUS
My message to the companies running gas stations and setting prices at the pump is simple: this is a time of war and global peril.
Bring down the price you are charging at the pump to reflect the cost you’re paying for the product. And do it now.
Notice how Biden (or whoever’s behind his Twitter account) speaks as if he is the King of America, ruling by decree and promising harsh repercussion if you dare defy him. Of course, long-time readers will recall numerous rants about how Biden claims to be defending democracy but is actually ignoring the rules of the Republic.
But even here Biden is undermined by his own actions. If he was actually worried about how high energy prices were affecting Americans, he would reverse the terrible course he’s set us on. Instead, he tells us that high prices will continue ‘as long as it takes’ to defeat Russia.
"""Bring down the price you are charging at the pump to reflect the cost you're paying for the product.""
No money to pay employees, no money to pay for the electricity that is used to pump the gas and keeps the lights on.
Dude doesn't know shit about running a business.
This is what you get when someone is politics all their life.
I am sure Joe know about the cut that goes to the Big Guy. Or at least he used to remember.
You forgot the "And do it now" portion of his tweet, TrickyVic. Talk about chutzpah.
What an asshole = Brandon
Inflation is a monetary phenomenon. It's caused by the devaluation of currency by creating too much of it. Money follows the law of supply and demand like anything else.
Blaming greedy businesses is intellectually absurd, especially when history is littered with the corpses of governments that inflated their currency into nothingness. It's understood that governments cause inflation by devaluing or debasing the currency. So why, when inflation is discussed in the present, is the government inflating the money supply never even considered as a cause of inflation even when it's common knowledge that that's what caused inflation through history? It doesn't make any sense.
The sad part is that interest rates aren't nearly as high as they need to be to start bringing prices down, but doing so is going to trigger an actual recession, so they're going to try kicking the can down the road AGAIN like they've been doing the last 20-odd years.
If interest rates are raised to what they should be to combat inflation, the federal government would be hardest hit.
I think that's why rates are kept artificially low. To protect debtors. Well, one debtor in particular.
We no longer have common knowledge. We have Red Team common knowledge, and we have Blue Team common knowledge. The problem is that the Red vs. Blue Team culture/political war requires that Blue Team not agree that anything that the Red Team believes is true, and vice versa.
Therefore, if Red Team believes excess money supply causes inflation, Blue Team absolutely cannot allow that belief in Blue Team common knowledge.
This comment basically encapsulates like 80% of the problems that we have in this country. Well said.
Sure, if you like the “both sides” cop out when one side is clearly much worse.
And clearly much more responsible for the gas prices that Brandon is feigning outrage over.
Maybe that is how your mind works but that is not how mine works. No one believes excess money supply causes inflation anymore than they believe that jumping off a building causes you to fall. The laws of economics are just laws of the mass behavior of people.
Regardless, your explanation is not only untrue, it is not what is happening here. What is happening here is "new monetary" policy that basically holds that you can print all the money you like and get rich doing it is being proven wrong. That makes a lot of people on both side but mostly the Democratic side and certainly this Administration look very stupid as it should make them look.
Modern Monetary Theory is what you're describing, and while I don't agree with MMT I don't think it's the cause of this current bout of inflation. That was caused by all the stupid stimulus packages that increased the money supply while stupid restrictions cause the supply of goods and services to decrease. The result is more money chasing less stuff, and that is what causes inflation.
It was partially caused by that. It was that in combination with the lockdowns and screwing up the supply chain because every government in the world panicked over COVID. It is not hard to figure out what is going to happen when you increase the supply of money while decreasing the supply of goods and services. Or at least it shouldn't be hard to figure out but somehow is hard for all of the "best and brightest".
The "best and brightest" economists are not tasked with figuring out what's going on in the economy and come up with intelligent ideas.
Their job is to come up with an explanation that justifies government policy.
Likewise the job of constitutional judges is not to judge the law against the Constitution. Their job is to come up with an interpretation that justifies government policy.
This way politicians get to say they're following the advice of experts.
The left always blames private enterprise because economic liberty is an anathema to them. It creates inequality, being that the people who own the businesses get rich. That makes them feel bad.
So any excuse to come down on evil capitalists is fine by them.
You seemingly have no knowledge.
You seemingly have no knowledge. You seemingly have no knowledge.
There! I said a stupid, unsupported, arrogant thing TWICE! Do I now win? What is the prize here anyway?
A golden shower under the troll bridge.
And sarc rushes forward with ideas yet again. Still nut hugging Mike and Jeff i see. When do you guys rent an air bnb together?
You seemingly have no knowledge.
Aw snap! I was supposed to say it three times!
So more ideas? When is your group outing? Maybe catch a biden speech together?
Playing defense sucks. Stick with it though, you're doing a helluva job,
"We no longer have common knowledge."
Good job Mike!
Sad to say, it gets worse!
“My tribe GOOD, your tribe BAD”, and by simple extension, “My tribe’s violence GOOD, your tribe’s violence BAD” seem to be behavior-genetics-wise embedded into the human brain, sad to say. But genetics isn’t destiny! Awareness of this whole thing is the first step towards fixing it! We DO have free will; we aren’t just “meat puppets”!
It does get worse, however. We aren’t merely just self-righteous by genetic programming; we are also prone to making up lies about our “tribal enemies”, in order to justify attacking them! Not to make you retch, but please recall your history. And not to pick on Christians too much; this is just the history that I am most familiar with. Dark-ages Christians spread horrible lies about “witches” (pre-Christian Wiccans, pagans, etc.) in order to justify witch-burnings, witch-drownings, etc. And the same with rumors about Jews and (ugh!) drinking the blood of Christian babies, etc. (Sorry I had to go there).
This, too, may be at least somewhat genetically programmed. See https://thehill.com/changing-america/respect/equality/566982-terrifying-new-study-says-our-conspiracy-theory-epidemic and (same thing) https://www.salon.com/2021/08/08/a-terrifying-new-theory-fake-news-and-conspiracy-theories-as-an-evolutionary-strategy/
A terrifying new theory: Fake news and conspiracy theories as an evolutionary strategy.
Social scientist Michael Bang Petersen on why people believe outrageous lies — as a tool in violent group conflict.
So we instinctively hold fast to the lies that we WANT to believe, to mark our tribal allegiances! And to pre-justify “my tribe’s violence GOOD, and YOUR tribe’s violence BAD!” This is next to impossible to “educate away”, since it is so primordial. It’s not a matter of FACTS; it is FAR more so, a matter of tribal alliances and allegiances, and political (and even physical, in times of war) survival.
The true nature of reality has very-very little to do with short-term political success. That’s what the above-cited article is all about! Short-term political success has MUCH more to do with signaling that “I am part of OUR tribe! I hold ALL of the wacky beliefs that OUR tribe holds, whether they are true, or not! My tribe’s violence GOOD; THEIR tribe’s violence is BAD! So when our tribal chieftain is looking to whack the bad guys with a stick… Remember! I am one of the GOOD guys! I go with the untruths of OUR tribe, NOT those of the BAD tribe!”
Sigh.
Good post, mike. You should limit to one word more often.
operate on similarly tiny margins.
Hey, did you know that grocery stores operate on a profit margin so small, it takes a microscope and a CP-fuckin-A to find it?
a CP-fuckin-A
I'm stealing that.
It is simple, they are just parroting what their base thinks, in this case a bunch of stoned 20 somethings sitting in their mom’s basement playing video games. I know people like this, in fact most of us used to be like this but then grew out of it as soon as we left home and had to take care of ourselves. The problem is this group keeps getting larger as the number of those who never grow up and learn to fend for themselves but live off of their parents or worse my taxes grows.
Oh and as a side note, is it just me or has Warren gotten shriller and crazy? I think she is just one ruling from the court away from mowing down a crowd in a suv.
Umm, John Podesta said that socialism was the future of the Democratic party. I'm surprised that Reason is surprised.
Reason giving the Democratic party the benefit of the doubt and not taking them at their word? Are you sure you are surprised by that? I am certainly not.
That inspires a fantasy; seeing "America's mother in law" racing toward you and a number of innocent bystanders in her SUV with obvious malice aforethought, and drawing your legally and responsibly owned concealed carry with which you have conscientiously trained, to stop her with a well placed round.
Now would that make you a hero, or would the walkers come for you? Or would a progressive "Soros" DA do everything in their power to put you away?
Eyes are the window to the soul... She has crazy eyes.
"The average gas station owner makes pennies per gallon of gas sold. "
Unfortunately we live in an age where it is no longer enough to be merely an average gas station owner.
This administration is run by children.
Yes, and the previous administration was run by a child.
Yeah, who just happened to usher in the best economy since the 80s and be the first President since Carter not to start any new wars. But he made proper white people like you feel bad. And that is what is important. That and virtue signaling your membership in the smart set. Don't worry Mike, we know you are not one of "Those People".
The president doesn't control the economy.
They can't necessarily control it, but they definitely can impact it.
If the economy is good and your team is in power, then your team gets the credit. Go team! If your team is not in power then the your team's previous administration set things up for the good economy despite what the other team is doing to screw it up. Bastards!
If the economy is bad and your team is in power, then the other team's previous administration set the stage and your team is fixing it. Go team! If your team is not in power then the other team is obviously the cause. Bastards!
Again, utter ignorance from you.
If biden came put discussing regulations to end podcasting in the next 5 years, people would stop advertising and building new studios or infrastructure for that market. That is what he is doing with energy. And he is doing it openly. Which seemingly you are either ignorant of or intentionally ignoring.
You can't ever admit biden is having a negative effect on anything. This is why you've been hailed a leftist the last 2 years. You through your lot in woth other leftists doing the same.
Yes. Biden is having a fucking effect on the economy through regulatory agencies. Just last week using the EPA to reduce and go after energy production in Texas and NM that produces over 30% of future energy of current known sources on the US.
He has given the DoJ action to team with liberal environmental groups to also go after these companies. Yes this effects the futures and investments in those industries.
Stop being ignorant or deceptive. Probably both.
Threw* fucking homonyms.
See the conversation I had with a person who isn't an antagonistic asshole if you want an answer to what you're accusing me of.
I get the standard tribal-fare that is spewed constantly for political gain.
But that doesn't eliminate the fact that presidential action and policy does impact the economy. Great example is oil production. When you campaign on and move to implement a policy intending to lead to the elimination of oil and natural gas drilling in the US, you will impact the economy.
Sure presidents can throw monkey wrenches into the economy. Oil production is a good example. Tariffs don't help the economy, and neither does severely restricted immigration. I never said otherwise. I said that the president doesn't control the economy. Positively or negatively.
And I said the president doesn't control the economy per se, but can impact it both positively and negatively. Thus, blaming and crediting the president for actions that impact the economy is very much a proper thing when done honestly.
I just think that the impact the president has on the economy, positively or negatively, is exaggerated.
As far as "honestly" goes, that all depends on if your team is in power or not. Nobody cares what anyone on the sideline thinks.
I agree that the impact generally is exaggerated. But I also think the impact is also minimized.
And whether people can have or care about honest discussions is irrelevant at the end of the day. Honesty, whether accepted or not is still honesty.
The President can influence an economy dumbfuck. In this case negatively by using government force to stop long term investments in energy production. Usually taking 7-10 years to become productive and profitable. This extends to other things like pipelines, refineries, etc.
Stop defending the left reflexively because you hate the right. This is the utter ignorance and actions you get called out for.
https://reason.com/2022/07/05/sorry-biden-gas-stations-cant-just-bring-down-the-price/?comments=true#comment-9583401
You thought your comment based on defending biden and the left by saying he no longer has control is worth reminding to? Lol. That he is being blamed solely for team politics
Okay youre going with ignorant.
You really are that dumb.
Worth linking to*
I'm not defending anything.
Trade wars don't do much to help the economy. Neither do restrictive immigration policies.
And someone might respond to your argument about energy production by saying the economy is being boosted by alternative energy policy or some such bullshit.
My point is that yes the government can influence the economy, mostly negatively, and doing something good usually comes in the from of undoing something bad.
However giving credit, positive or negative, to the president is foolish.
“Restrictive immigration policies” don’t necessarily reflect much restriction on immigration when “policies” are meaningless.
Not to mention made more progress toward peace (Abraham Accords) than any President since Eisenhower.
Opened up fossil fuel production, driving prices down (incidently, a anti-inflationary move).
Recognized the risk Germany was in relying on Russia for natural gas and was laughed at the Germans for it. (Not laughing now are they?)
Where can we get another "child" like that? The child looks REALLY good compared to the "adult" in charge now.
^+10000000000000
One thing going for Biden, he never tried to overthrow the results of a Presidential election.
But he was certainly ready to try if the ballot stuffing didn't go his way. The largest election fraud team ever assembled......
Ah, time to trot out the tired, thoroughly disingenuous “largest election fraud team ever assembled” meme.
Whatabout! Drink!
I know it can be hard to tell a bothsidez from a whadabout. I thought I was clearly indicating that I was pulling a bothesidez by prefacing my comment with a “Yes, and…”
This administration is run by children.
There is nothing "children" about them. They are Marxists. Marxism is a theory that calls explicitly for terrorism and the extermination of people. Today's Democrats parrot Marx with their calls for "revolution", anarchy, retaliation, oppressor vs oppressed lexicon, etc. Read Washington Post, NY Times, et al. All Marxist verbiage, e.g.

Understand, Okun's research isn't Critical Race Theory... and Critical Race Theory isn't Marxist, it just spends all its fucking time whinging about Pedagogy, Praxis, Social Justice, Equity and the destruction of capitalism.
And please ignore that Paulo Freire is heavily taught in every American school of education. It's all a big fat coinkidink!
True. And Critical Theory just happened to focus on race and gender (and fatties) when modern college students could no longer understand concepts of class and economics.
Quite a few kids would find that insulting; they know there's no Jackson orchard out n the back 40.
(unlike the muted lefty shit pile just above)
Not you, BC or Y - above you both.
(unlike the muted lefty shit pile just above)
Who seems to be positing that people who will go out of their way to save $0.10 to $0.15 on 12 gallons of gas are easily lured inside to buy overpriced candybars and beer.
Typical of proggy shits everywhere and always; 'Incenttives don't matter, unless they should promote my lame choices'.
Hey. lefty shit pile! Fuck off and die.
Similarly, the downscale dumbasses outraged by the prospect of paying market price for a commodity should stop their mostly partisan whining and focus on becoming less economically inadequate. Maybe improve their education, too, and become less gullible and superstitious?
Maybe they need to learn that men can not get pregnant.
That sounds nearly as bad as believing -- as an adult -- that childish fucking fairy tales are true.
Carry on, clingers . . . so far as your betters permit.
More feeble every day. Perhaps you should try a new schtick.
Hmmmmm. Need clarification on this one, Art.
Would you classify Islam as a "childish fucking fairy tale"? And if so does that mean our Muslim #Resistance allies like Linda Sarsour, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib are intellectually deficient in some way?
#LibertariansAgainstIslamophobia
Open wide, hicklib--you're about to get even more progress shoved down your throat, this time by a mumblecore rapper in a dress.
"That sounds nearly as bad as believing -- as an adult -- that childish fucking fairy tales are true."
Not nearly as bad as the tired rantings of the asshole bigot, asshole bigot.
Wait, you think mocking someone for stating the biological fact that men can't get pregnant is somehow a win?
Lol. Those wins are really piling up for you and the betters, eh rev?
The days of being permitted to carry on are surely numbered now, no?
Haha. Impotent old man.
Hey take a look at the "biologist" over here!
This is the problem with *no one* actually understanding how anything works.
The low profit margins on gas should be obvious from anyone who has noticed people will drive across town to save 3 cents a gallon.
At some point you gain enough experience in a field to recognize that pretty much everything a newspaper or a politician says about your field is wrong. And then you start becoming skeptical about all the other things they claim to know as well.
And then you think, "if this guy doesn't even know how the price of gas works, how can he make good decisions about anything?"
But there will ever be a new generation of people who were not taught these things by their parents. And so they have to relearn them all from scratch.
Did the article mention that the different brands of gas all pretty much come from the same place, they just have different additives?
Oh, you can be certain the Biden administration knows how this works. The fact that they are driving small businesses into bankruptcy is not a mistake, it's the objective of such policies.
Did the article mention that the different brands of gas all pretty much come from the same place, they just have different additives?
Of course they do... And WHY is that so???
Gov-Gun Regulation.
Why not? They could do this to landlords with the eviction moratorium, they can do it to gas station owners with fuel price controls.
The fact that these small businesses end up losing money, going out of business, and then are forced to sell to a few gigantic corporations and Democrat donors is not a problem, it is the objective of such policies.
Don't give them ideas. The primary advantage that combustion engines still have over electric is the ubiquitous distribution of fuel. If they put enough stations out of business, you might as well buy electric because you are effectively tethered anyway.
Seeing as how almost all the gas stations here in SE Michigan are owned by Middle Eastern/Pakistani "brown people" types, does this make Joe racist?
Nope. On the flexible CRT oppression scale, all people lose points when they are successful at white things like business. And recall that some groups, like Asians, can be classified as white when they defy the progressive narrative.
You mean the guy who recently said “Well I’m telling you, if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”
Or that "poor kids can be as smart as white kids?"
Or “You cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. And I’m not joking,” he added with a grin. Or who called Obama "articulate, bright, and clean?"
How about “Clap for that, you stupid bastards,” the vice-president barked, minutes into his speech to the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing stationed in Abu Dhabi.
“No, you haven’t,” he told the dumbfounded young woman.
“You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier.”
“You’re full of shit,” Biden shot back.
"Biden's ignorance about gas stations sounds like a replay of Sen. Elizabeth Warren's (D–Mass.) attempt at blaming higher food prices on greedy grocery store owners—despite the fact that they often operate on similarly tiny margins."
Lol. This is not ignorance. They know exactly how the economics of both industries work. They just want to nationalize them.
^Well said, "They just want to nationalize them."
I think Biden just forgot for a minute that the goal is to raise gas prices to $7 a gallon.
$7 is only Phase one.
"Dude, think about it, dude. If you just don't raise your price when everybody else does, you will sell even more gas."
I should write a book, Economics for Stoners, price it $0.99 and sell it online. I am sure if I sell 10 million copies that it will more than make up for the $1.25 per book that the publisher charges to make it available for e-readers.
It's called loss leading, bro. Do you even MBA?
Biden understands perfectly (On his good days).
He also understands how politics works, and being a lying weasel is a plan that has worked for him over half a century.
Why would he change?
Oh shit, did you guys see the latest headline?
"Guman wore women's clothing to conceal his identity!"
Ooooooooooh sheeeeeeITTTTTT are we gonna have fun with this one.
HAHAHA
On the other hand, in the unlikely event he is imprisoned, he will have no fun at all.
When you put a political party into power that thinks and acts like children, dont be surprised when you get childlike "magical thinking" as policy decisions.
Adults in charge
Came here to make this point. Boehm voted for this and it should have been perfectly clear this would be the outcome. 40+ year record of incompetence. Biden's campaign website was very clear and precise about going full retard on climate change.
Adults back in charge! - Eric Boehm
And this is why Boehm supports doing business and even subsidizing doing business with "centrally planned economics and petty authoritarianism"!
Has Reason done an article on the insanity in Denmark shutting down farms to prevent global warming. Of all the things people may try to prevent "global warming" the last thing you do is quit farming especially during a fake man made world wide food crisis.
Personally i'm sure they are not shutting down the corporate farms which tells you something there. this is insanity and proves its not about the planet its about control
A lot of people are going to suffer due to the consequences of climate hysterics and green policies. Its really unfortunate, but unfortunately a return to countries facing massive food shortages and later on, freezing conditions will need to happen for people to wake up.
Yep... As it has been from the very start...
This Nation MUST be conquered because "the weather changes"...
It's actually hilarious to find out it started as Global Cooling....
When they figured out it was rising (for a few years) it had to be re-named Global Warming....
Then once it started falling again (for a few years) they just decided to go with Climate Changing...
I wonder how Virginia Senate majority leader Dick Saslaw (who made his fortune owning and operating gas stations in Northern Virginia) reacted to Biden's message.
Most gas stations in NoVa are now owned by immigrants, especially from the Middle East and Ethiopia. What Biden said might not be a big deal, but won’t help Team Blue here either.
Hey lefties, remember how Biden was bringing dignity back to government?
Explain this thing:

"Spent Fuel and Waste"
This seems apt for this individual.
But thank god for their bravery and heroism (read: mental pathology and narcissism)
Ill add, the comments xeir makes below the announcement are a new very transparent tactic from the left.
"Due to the concern of negative and threatening responses"
Preemptively declaring that a racism/bigotry/attack was going to happen so they had to heroically bear some burden. They do this all the time. "We knew everyone was going to be reactionary, so we had to do XYZ for our safety". Its already worn out its welcome, and very easily telegraphed.
Did Biden even attempt a "C'mon man!" with the oil companies? I feel like maybe he is keeping that up his sleeve.
"It arguably lacks the pomposity of former President Donald Trump's memorable tweet that "hereby ordered" American companies to stop doing business in China"
-------
You can't even tell the truth about this!
"Our great American companies are hereby ordered to immediately start looking for an alternative to China, including bringing.."
I have talked with gas station owners and most of them charge just pennies over their cost. The way they make money is people coming in to purchase items at the stops. Larger franchises tend to charge slightly more so they can give a member discount, which again, leaves them with a few pennies per gallon. Most station profits are the food and drinks offered inside. Absolutely, the government b FAR MORE makes a profit per gallon with taxes than the gas stations do.
"Absolutely, the government b FAR MORE makes a profit per gallon with taxes than the gas stations do."
------
They really really hate it when you point this out. In CA they are sending out 'gas rebate checks' while also increasing the gas taxes.
I make money by peddling influence and Hunters drug deals
The only people dumb enough to believe these lies are the idiots who voted for Biden in the first place. Vote against America, the Constitution and freedom - vote Democratic Party!
It's in their very party platform. Democrats (as in democracy) is their foundation [WE] mobs rule!!!!
Only problem is; It's treasonous to the USA founded on the U.S. Constitution. They are a rogue-government trying to take over the USA.
You are a fucking twit if you think any political party is for you. It is the most anti American thing anyone could think.
Well, he didn't misspell Louisiana.
You would think that Joe would understand this, given Hunter's deep experience in the fossil fuel industry.
Im a fossil!
Bring down the price you are charging at the pump to reflect the cost you're paying for the product.
It already does, you moron.
https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/EER_EPMRU_PF4_RGC_DPGD.htm
What about subsidies for the oil & gas industry. I read that eliminating these would save $10 Billion but have very little effect on the price at the pump.
It is unhinged to suggest we stop doing business with COMMUNIST China?!? Ya I stopped reading after that.
The summary was spot on. The little guy gas station owners getting screwed by oil companies.
I actually have made $18,000 within a calendar month via working easy jobs from a laptop. As I had lost my last business, I was so upset and thank God I searched this simple job achieving this I'm ready to achieve thousand of dollars just from my home. All of you can certainly join this best job and could collect extra money

So Let It Be Written, So Let It Be Done.
Sorry, Biden, Gas Stations Can't Just 'Bring Down the Price'
...but, but, but the Great Dictator Joe Biden had COMMANDED the do!
