Joe Rogan and the Weird New Definition of 'Right-Winger'
Plus: Against ideological surveillance, the truth about "free" COVID-19 tests, and more...

Beyond the left/right binary. In a widely shared Sunday tweet, journalist Matthew Sheffield asserted that controversial podcaster Joe Rogan "overwhelmingly" favors "right-wingers" as guests. Rogan has been at the center of multiple outrage cycles recently (even the White House has been weighing in), with many progressives—including musicians like Neil Young—attempting to get the audio platform Spotify to cancel his contract. Proving that he's some sort of right-wing nutjob has been a major thread in all this.
Rogan and his supporters insist that he's simply open-minded and likes to talk to people from across the political spectrum—and a quick glance at some of his repeat guests would certainly suggest this.
Liberal actress Amy Schumer has been on Rogan's show four times, while Trump-loving actress Roseanne Barr has been on three times. Liberal director Kevin Smith has been a guest (four times), as has conservative rocker Ted Nugent (three times). Sex advice columnist and podcaster Dan Savage, Cenk Uygur of the left political show The Young Turks, whistleblower and civil liberties advocate Edward Snowden, and former U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D–Hawaii) have all been on Rogan's show. As have conservative commentators and entertainers like Ben Shapiro, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones.
Many of Rogan's guests don't fit into neat political categories. For instance, politically independent YouTuber Bridget Phetasy has been on four times. Rogan also likes guests from the atheist and skeptic communities. Neuroscientist, podcaster, and author Sam Harris—best known for his writings on atheism and debates with religious believers—has been on eight times. Psychologist and author Steven Pinker (famous for books like How The Mind Works and The Blank Slate) has been on twice. Skeptic magazine founder Michael Shermer has been on six times.
In the chart made by Sheffield—who describes himself as "post-conservative" in his Twitter bio—all of the people listed in the above paragraph are coded as "right-wing." So is English actor Russell Brand, who has campaigned against austerity measures and made a documentary against the war on drugs. So is Gabbard, who was literally a Democratic presidential candidate. So is Elon Musk, who describes himself as a "registered independent & politically moderate." And so are all the Rogan guests associated with what was briefly termed the Intellectual Dark Web—folks like journalist Bari Weiss (on twice), biology professor Bret Weinstein (on seven times), Canadian author and professor Jordan Peterson (on seven times), and evolutionary biologist Heather Heying (on twice)—regardless of whether they personally consider themselves liberal or libertarian-leaning.
I don't mean to single out Sheffield especially, but his tweet made the rounds, and it's illustrative of the ways in which Rogan has been awkwardly folded into a conventional left/right political argument that doesn't quite fit the podcaster, his listeners, or a lot of other discussions these days.
As writer Kat Rosenfield points out, "many of the 'right-wing' guests explicitly favor left/liberal policies and voted dem in at least the last 4 presidential elections." Others on the right-wing list tend to lean libertarian, or to support a mix of policies and cultural attitudes associated with the left and with the right.
The whole thing makes no sense—except as an exercise in labeling anyone out of step with progressive orthodoxy in any way at all as a right-winger. That's the thing all of the centrist or left-leaning folks that Sheffield labels as right-wing have in common: a quibble with some aspect of mainstream Democratic or progressive politics. In many cases, these quibbles are related to free speech, which much of the mainstream modern left has been turning against.
In the past, there seems to have been more acceptance of ideological diversity and policy differences within parties and political movements. But—alas—these days, many Democrats/progressives or Republicans/conservatives who refuse to march in lockstep with these groups' thought leaders get cast as traitors. It's nuts.
But the Rogan guest list highlights more than just the intensifying gatekeeping of political labels. It also showcases—as Rosenfield puts it—"the total breakdown of left/right as a meaningful political binary."
These days, we've got Republicans calling for economic and regulatory policies that would've been considered too left for the left just a few decades ago. We've got liberals who reject all sorts of liberal values, like freedom of religion and freedom of speech.
We've also got a whole lot of independents who can't stand either mainstream political party. More people now identify as independent than as either a member of the Democratic Party or of the GOP.
The list of Rogan guests does highlight something telling, just not what Sheffield thinks it does. It shows how inadequate the language of left versus right is for discussing politics and cultural leanings in 2022.
FREE MINDS
Free speech principles must go both ways. Two newsletters, from opposing political vantages, tackle censorship and "ideological surveillance," including book bans and measures limiting school instruction (like this terrible proposal out of Florida).
"I have never in my adult life seen anything like the censorship fever that is breaking out across America," writes David French in "Our Nation Cannot Censor Its Way Back to Cultural Health":
As American animosity rises, we simply cannot censor our way to social peace or unity. We can, however, violate the social compact, disrupt the founding logic of our republic, and deprive American students and American citizens of the exchange of ideas and of the liberty that has indeed caused, as [Frederick] Douglass prophesied, 'thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers, founded in injustice and wrong' to tremble in the face of righteous challenge."
Meanwhile, in "Snitch Nation," Jill Filipovic laments that "we have adjusted startlingly rapidly not only to pervasive surveillance and the end of personal privacy, but to the justification for punishment arising from that surveillance."
"We can differentiate between the need to check those in positions of significant power and the baser urge to punish those who have bad or even harmful ideas, or those who do things we dislike that don't actually cause tangible damage," writes Filipovic:
Police who complain about body and dash cam rules, for instance, can suck an egg — when the state hands you a gun and gives you the authority to use it, you take on a higher level of responsibility and there is a significant public interest in making sure that you are not breaking the laws that you and your friends and colleagues are charged with enforcing. But punishing people whose ideas are wrong but not immediately physically dangerous — even if the people disseminating those ideas have some cultural influence or educational authority — leads us down a dangerous path. After all, it's those in power who get to decide which ideas merit penalty. When that's progressives at a liberal arts college, I tend to agree with their assessment. When it's conservatives on a Texas school board, I don't. Which is why we need to maintain a set of consistent principles when it comes to speech and surveillance that transcends (most) of that speech's content.

On "free" COVID-19 tests, from The Wall Street Journal:
My 4-year-old daughter's preschool requires weekly Covid testing. We were told not to worry about the cost—the tests are free. On a recent Sunday my family got tested at a pop-up tent outside a gasoline station. The sign on the tent advertised "free Covid testing."
I didn't pay for these tests, but they aren't free. The cost is billed to my health insurance. A few days ago, I received a routine letter from my insurance company summarizing what it paid: $1,140 a month for my daughter's weekly PCR test. That comes to about $285 per test, 20 times the cost of an at-home rapid test."
FOLLOW-UP
The IRS is backtracking on a plan to use facial recognition software. In January, Reason reported that the IRS was requiring users of many of its online services to register with facial recognition company ID.me. "The IRS takes taxpayer privacy and security seriously, and we understand the concerns that have been raised," said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig in a statement. Now, the agency has announced that it will "transition away from using a third-party service for facial recognition to help authenticate people creating new online accounts" and "quickly develop and bring online an additional authentication process that does not involve facial recognition."
Canadian authorities are getting more aggressive against protesters in Ottawa. "Police in the Canadian capital are trying to prevent protesters who have parked an estimated 500 heavy-duty trucks in the downtown core from obtaining fuel, food and other supplies in a stepped-up effort to end the 11-day demonstration against Covid-19 vaccine mandates," reports The Wall Street Journal. "Among the new measures is the arrest of protesters and their supporters who attempt to ferry fuel and food into the main demonstration zone." Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted on Monday:
So far, hundreds of RCMP officers have been mobilized to support the Ottawa Police Services. We're also working with municipal partners to further strengthen our response, and we'll continue to be there with whatever resources are needed to get the situation under control.
— Justin Trudeau (@JustinTrudeau) February 8, 2022
Meanwhile, on Monday, a judge ruled that protesters must stop honking their horns for the next 10 days. "Tooting a horn is not an expression of any great thought I'm aware of," declared Judge Hugh McLean. Here's how truckers responded:
After a judge ruled that honking is now illegal in Ottawa, the truckers responded by honking.

Joe Rogan and the Weird New Definition of 'Right-Winger'
Anything to the right of the Official Narrative.
If Tony and White Mike are libertarian, then Rogan probably is right-wing.
Needless to say their claims are hollow given their predilection for supporting policies and politicians that/who are clearly authoritarian, when not totalitarian.
Anything
to the rightoutside of the Official Narrative.Fixed.
What a weird new definition of "weird". George Orwell was quite familiar with the constant re-defining of terms.
They hate independence more than anything. Detest it, despise it, fear it. Any sign of independent thinking or action is the devil's work.
Yup, that's true. Now do Trump's attitude toward anyone who dissents from his views within the Republican Party's ranks.
Why? You are the only one who regularly brings up Trump.
It's a playground romance. White Mike is mean to Trump because he secretly has a crush on him.
It’s touching really.
No touching!
https://youtu.be/_LEJ6tZI7_k
I’ve long said that most of the lefty assholes here probably masturbate bitterly to Trump’s speeches and tweets.
SPB has a tangerine colored buttplug that he calls his “Orange Man Oh So Good.” He feels so humiliated during one of his sessions. But he also ends up so satisfied.
So much so that the occasional body part falls off.
TDS is real, and so far no one has recovered from it.
He does have a reputation for prizing loyalty above almost everything else, sometimes to his detriment.
So it's a bit of a mystery to me that Democrats--who are the smartest people in the room, just ask them--would imitate Trump.
I don’t think they are emulating Trump. They are engaging in their own dysfunction, but their own dysfunction has a lot of similarities.
Now discuss your dysfunction.
Plus if a popular show host talks to people with ideas from all across the political spectrum, it skewers the logic behind the push to deplatform anyone who ever says anything they don't like.
More like anything that, on a given day, a self-appointed champion of righteous progressivism does not like.
As with "Racist!" the term has lost any specific reference or criticism. It is just an emotional and rhetorical put-down. Sheffield and others might as well call Rogan a doodoo-head.
They are defining anyone who doesn't agree with a hyper woke, and technocratic government as Right Wing.
This isn't just some curiosity. This is an attempt to claim the Left for crazy wokesters. I am reading that twitter thread and it is absolutely crazy. People are like, "Wait, Tulsi is a Democrat!" And tons of blue-checks are sitting there going, "Well, she is influencing people to the right!"
Frankly, this is exactly why many of the usual suspects, including ENB, have (until recently) tended to avoid criticizing the left. Because of exactly this phenomenon of swift and brutal excommunication.
Case In Point:
https://twitter.com/mattsheffield/status/1490570863443202052
"Matthew Sheffield @mattsheffield Replying to @EyedHexe
He's doing Daily Wire interviews now. You don't do that if you're on the left."
This is the evidence that Russell Brand (!!!) is right wing. Because he is on the Very Bad(TM) shows. This is a deliberate attempt to shut down conversation. You can't give interviews to bad people. You can't disagree with the right people.
This is utterly authoritarian, and people on the Left really ought to figure out what is happening to their side before they, too, are kicked out.
Here's a line from the article I wanted to highlight:
But the Rogan guest list highlights more than just the intensifying gatekeeping of political labels. It also showcases—as Rosenfield puts it—"the total breakdown of left/right as a meaningful political binary."
I've been saying this for fucking five years now, but I guess I should repeat it again--this is what happens when a major political realignment takes place. When Tucker Carlson and Glenn Greenwald have civil discussions on Fox, Matt Taibbi trashes the mainstream media for being intellectually lazy partisans, Bill Maher excoriates today's liberals for being puritanical tards, and neocons openly state that their goal is to destroy the Republicans and get Democrats elected, that's because the traditional left-right paradigm that's existed since the Great Depression simply doesn't apply anymore.
California is actually a great fucking example of this in action. Contrary to what some might believe, and its "innovative" popular image, California has in fact always been reflective of the political and cultural establishment. That the state is largely controlled by a bunch of neomarxist whackjobs and white-hating ethno-liberationists is simply mirroring the fact that these same types of people are the ones who control the nation's universities, mass media, and most government bureaucracies.
Rogan's politics and shows have always leaned more towards a social libertarian/pop culture focus. He tends to bring on people that he thinks are going to provide provocative conversations, irrespective of their politics. If he's getting pigeonholed as a "rightist" now, it's solely due to the fact that he didn't bend the knee to the current left-liberal orthodoxy on the pandemic, and had the temerity to use alternative treatments and not die when he caught COVID.
The crowing that Spotify lost $100 million in stock value over this is pretty fucking hilarious in and of itself, because once the media cycle on this turns, and more countries start going the way of Denmark and Great Britain on COVID policies, it's not going to matter anymore. How many Boomers, who are the only ones who would listen to these old hippie singers anyway, even have a Spotify account to cancel to begin with?
We have liverspotify accounts, of course.
If you want to 'hurt' Spotify and make money, think about shorting their stock. 😉
The CEO says the right things, yet they are removing dozens of podcasts.
Individual investors shorting a stock can't make it go down.
Institutions who large numbers of people follow shorting a stock can make a difference sometimes, but generally there has to be some flaw in the fundamentals involved.
Yeah, I have GameStop and AMC in mind, also Tesla. But you're right, it takes a lot of people acting in concert to move that needle.
GameStop has a business model (physical retail of video game equipment and software) that's pretty much circling the drain, and they don't have the size to go toe to toe with Microsoft and Amazon, or the placement to take on Steam. Shorting their stock was probably the smart move, but when there got to be multiple shorts on each share, the unwinding was going to be insane (although I'm not sure if it's necessary to return "borrowed" shares if the stock goes to 0 or gets de-listed).
The shorts on AMC might have been out over their skis since the squeeze on that company is probably temporary.
In both cases, the short-sellers didn't make the stocks go down, but they did create an opportunity for those who figured out how to manipulate share prices up to create the short squeezes that shot their prices to the moon.
Greenwald and Maher have to be called right-wingers, because actual liberals are too embarrassing to progressives. If you defend free thought and free expression, you take away one of their weapons.
Can’t have people getting ideas.
Further, this is not new. It has been ongoing for many years. How does ENB think it got to the point where looting and burning for an entire summer is protected- even favored- free speech, and honking trucks is extremism? How does she think it got to the point where RUSSEL BRAND is considered right wing? That doesn't happen over night.
I remember in late 2014 when the BLM protests / riots started happening in my neighborhood, and people were blocking freeways and shutting down shopping malls and doing all sorts of vandalism and generally creating havoc.
We were told then that protests were supposed to be inconvenient, uncomfortable, annoying, etc. That's how they are effective. Well, these same people sure don't seem to like it when they are on the other side, do they?
Or where a sit-in is an insurrection?
This is the evidence that Russell Brand (!!!) is right wing. Because he is on the Very Bad(TM) shows. This is a deliberate attempt to shut down conversation. You can't give interviews to bad people. You can't disagree with the right people.
Overt, bear in mind that, for most of the 21st century, the mainstream left has been promoting this pernicious idea that strong political disagreement is something to be avoided at all cost. Jon Stewart's appearance on Crossfire with Tucker Carlson and his stupid "Rally to Restore Sanity" that he did with Colbert 12 years ago embodies this pretense, and the main reason they push this line is because they absolutely DO NOT want the right pushing back against their agenda with any sort of real energy.
When it happens, they start whinging that the right is being "divisive," when in fact, they mainly want to ensure that no resistance exists to them steamrolling their agenda down everyone's throat. "The government can't get anything done with all this gridlock!" is another one of their tells in this regard, as is "the things that unite us are far greater than the things that divide us"; they don't actually care whether or not gridlock exists, because if right-wingers take charge, they start claiming that any action taken by Republicans is a threat to "ARE DEMOCRASEE!"
Stewart basically brainwashed two entire generations--Gen-Xers and Millennials--with this bullshit, conning millions of bourgeoisie midwits into believing that promoting a consensus for the left-liberal agenda automatically made them more knowledgeable than the average news viewer.
Disagreement with their own Dogma is "divisive", or "treason/sedition" when their chosen wing of their party is seen as holding power.
When someone other than their anointed believers are in charge, they return to crowing about how "dissent is the highest form of patriotism".
In more recent years, the level of true orwellian doublethink has grown to be astonishing. Look no further than the combined denial that there was any kind of "deep state" cohort slowing the implementation of trump's agenda from within the government (therefore, trump was "paranoid" for referring to it) from people who were at the same time celebrating the heroes of the "#resistance" who were bravely fighting the evil overlord from their positions within the bureaucracy.
it's not simply authoritarian, it's stalinist.
Well, there is the pesky fact that she IS one of them.
Shit, the Left Twitterati is saying that the Canadian truckers are "Nazis" because they and their supporters are using the hashtag #honkhonk. The first initials of that slogan are of course "HH" which is obviously a "dog whistle" for "Heil Hitler".
They must be going crazy at this point because of all the dog whistles they're "hearing". The cacophony must be maddening.
that's BlueAnon level insanity
"The Left Twitterati" or this one person on Twitter?
https://twitter.com/davereaboi/status/1490730002941362177?s=20&t=3-7Fb6WoZ5WmJjdzrObKhA
Because when I google for it, the one person on Twitter is all I'm finding.
So you admit to knowing how to 'google.' Yet you always need a cite.
Why did you "google"? Did you try looking on Twitter, or is that too damn obvious?
As part of the twatterati, he’s an idiot.
Google indexes Twitter, and when I googled it, Google gave me a link to someone’s tweet, so I was searching Twitter in a way. Not sure what your point is.
My main point still stands. Is it just this one guy? Can anyone cite more people making this crazy claim than this one guy?
Well his tweet alone has been RE-tweeted 200 times.
They've been trained, like Pavlov's dogs, in school for many years to spot the racists.
When IMDB first started they had a post and comment section. Almost every film had someone post a "This movie is racist because........." Even movies depicting space aliens and cartoons with animals.
The Ironic thing about CRT is they're no longer teaching white kids to pin the tail on the racist but that the white kids themselves are innate and incorrigible racists.
Joe Rogan being a centrist who actually listens to both sides is more dangerous to them than Hannity on Fox. Most Independent centrist voters are not going to really listen to the likes of Hannity but Rogan gives all comers a chance to make their case in a polite manner and that more than anything frightens the national socialist….eh I mean Democratic party. Allowing people to not just state opinions contrary to what they spout but to do it in this way that has a chance of wooing people over to another side.
think about how the latest war on Rogan started.
he was interviewing people who don't fully buy into the main Wuhan coronavirus narrative.
this sparked outrage and it bled out from there.
There is a reason and it's not that he's offensive.
"People not agreeing with me completely is offensive, therefore they must be censored!" - modern day progressives.
BINGO! A rational conversation about the issues raises doubts among those who have been getting their propaganda from CNN et al. Leftists are so unconvinced by their own positions, the only way they can defend themselves is to use ad hominems (racist, homophobe, etc) and de-platforming (cyber bullying).
Oddly one of the biggest audiences of Dems on 25-54 age group is for Tucker Carlson.
Tony jacks it to Tucker every day.
The sad thing is that there is no 'weird new definition of right wing'.
There are, instead, three generations, X, Millennial and Z who have been brought up with an endless drumbeat of 'right bad, left good' realizing that they have opinions that are, to them, common sense that are right wing craziness according to the mainstream.
Not wanting to be 'bad', they decide they're different somehow from the right an either cling to the 'left' label, like Tim, Sargon, and Rogan, or declare that 'anarchist' is a 'third way'.
All because the left has defined 'the right' as a disgusting racist boogeyman to them from all their lives.
This is what comes from letting your enemy march through the institutions to the point where they can appear to be an unbiased group defining what THEIR enemies are.
Are YOU left or right?
It's very simple to find out.
Do you favor the idea of social justice, social responsibility? Do you think society would be better if we all worked and sacrificed to create a better society?
Then you're a leftist.
Do you think the pursuit of individual freedom, personal responsibility and free markets will generate a civilization wherein every person can enjoy a high level of individual liberty? Do you think that creating conditions where everyone can excel, where everyone gets a shot, where everyone is limited only by their own potential is a laudable gaol?
You're on the right.
See?
There's no new definition. It's the same one it always has been-- we're just getting the leftists out of the way of people seeing that.
And Joe, no matter how much he might think otherwise, might want otherwise, is firmly right wing. As are Tim Pool and Sargon
This a million times over.
Rogan has been at the center of multiple outrage cycles recently...
Almost as though directed.
I don't mean to single out Sheffield especially...
The list was idiotic. It didn't deserve the attention it got.
^Absolutely.
Fuck it, we're all right wing extremists now.
More bizarre and harmful than the weird labeling is the tacit assumption that "right-wing" is something nefarious and bad. That a whole side of American politics must be shunned.
Seems Right wingers want to talk while Left-wingers wish to silence.
Except when the right wingers want to silence as well. Josh Hawley anyone?
Who, exactly, does he want to silence?
You're aware the "anti-Big Tech" right wants to INCREASE speech, not restrict, correct?
No, he’s not. And he wouldn’t admit that even if he did know.
Lol. Wow what a joke you've become.
There are those in any group who will try to censor/cancel, but they are dominant among the Leftists and numerous Lefty politicians are "I see nothing"s.
Right: We know for a fact that polls show a majority of Right wingers and a majority of Independents reject the notion that Authorities (in government or big tech) aught to police content, even if it means restricting freedom of speech. Only a majority of Democrats disagree.
So yeah, let's criticize anyone on the right who is doing this. But the existential problem is the Left right now. Because they are in power, and pushing this nonsense.
Both sides, good one.
Russell Brand, Glen Greenwald, Joe Rogan, Bret Weinstein, Matt Taibbi, Jordan Peterson, Bari Weiss, etc are all labeled right-wingers now, even though they were, and still are, obviously holding traditional leftist views.
In the last five years the "left" has become all about global multinationals, billionaires, trust-fund babies, the Washington bureaucracy, censorship, racism (CRT), the FBI and CIA, spying, mandates, neocon warmongers and speech supression, while the "right" has become the voice of the worker, free speech, bodily autonomy, colour blindness and anti-war.
Weird as hell.
Yep! And Main Street is just now realizing what their party is up to.
It only makes sense if you flip it around and hold it up from the other side.
Look at "authoritarian" vs "anti-authoritarian"
Look at "establishment" vs outsider.
Then you will see that we are witnessing the "establishment" (traditional big government Democrats and Republicans), multinational corporations and billionaires, and the bureaucracy writ large (the military and civil service) all pushing to increase government power, control and wealth redistribution (that they can all share in).
The new wrinkle is the power of the socialist/communist crowd. It seems that everyone has suddenly realized that the communists share the same goals of growing government power and control over the wealth of the nation. So the establishment thinks they can use and co-opt the socialists and communists.
Of course, the communists think they are doing the same thing.
Either way, we are the enemy.
Now everything they are saying and doing fits neatly.
Yup. It is the Elite vs the Populace. I personally don't want Trump as the representative of the Populace, but I also don't want the Elites calling the shots any more. It is a dilemma, to be sure, but the first step in getting a better representative is for the nation to collectively understand what battle is being fought. Until that time, the Elites will continue to benefit from their actions that pit the populace against one another.
I personally don't want Trump as the representative of the Populace, but I also don't want the Elites calling the shots any more.
The only reason Trump even ended up as the face of the Populares is because no other mainstream politician had the balls AND the "fuck you" money to leverage himself in to that position. It's not that Trump has any real principles--although his actual politics are more reflective of late-80s Democrats than anything else--it was because, like Fox News and Rush Limbaugh, he saw a vacuum that needed to be filled, that possessed a built-in constituency who would largely remain loyal specifically because they pissed off the right people.
That populism is becoming more prominent on both the left AND the right (AOC is nothing more than a younger, mirror version of Trump) is reflective of how badly the right/left establishment (the Optimates) have screwed things up since Y2K rolled through. It's just that the right's version causes more angst amongst the mainstream because they've swallowed the binary neomarxist pretense that if you're not moving towards socialism/marxism, you're moving towards fascism.
I will take Elites over the Mob any day of the week. The mob is ruled by passions and emotion. They are driven by the loudest words of the biggest demagogue. We will not get evidence-based, fact-based policy from the mob. Instead we will get policy that is "common sense" or "goes with yer gut" or that panders to the worst fears and instincts of people. The ideal is to have minimal government, but in the absence of that, I will take government run by professionals rather than government run by paranoid emotional morons.
I will take Elites over the Mob any day of the week.
This is fucking hilarious coming from Mr. You're A Slave to Binary Thinking.
It doesn't matter to chemtard that the Elites are largely a bunch of corrupt, back-scratching fuck-ups and that's why the mob is getting pissed off to begin with. He needs his Top Men to ensure that there isn't a break in his Doritos and Mountain Dew supply.
With any luck, he'll end up in the same place that Cato the Younger did--running a knife through his fat guts and pulling his intestines out in shame after getting crushed by the Populares.
He’s just a silly girl with no real convictions or original thoughts.
Oh, he has convictions, all right--it's just that they revolve around "how can I suck up to my leftist neighbors so they don't cancel me?"
We know jeff. Youre a fucking statist. You've been on 4 days now of pro censorship under the guise of corporatism. You refuse to acknowledge how wrong the "self proclaimed elites" have been.
The Elites and Mob are together - antifa and BLM are their brown shirts.
We certainly are not getting "evidence-based, fact-based policy" from the current crowd of clowns. Trump for all his faults was more rational.
We certainly are not getting "evidence-based, fact-based policy" from the current crowd of clowns.
There is ZERO chance of getting it by putting the mob in charge.
Trump for all his faults was more rational.
lol
Maybe people should make up their own minds about what facts and evidence suggest you should do and government should provide a basic legal framework in which people can operate?
What kind of individualist wants government to tell us what to think?
On some level policy still has to be grounded in reality. Even in Libertopia there will still be policies. Who do you want making these policies? The guy who says "just go with yer gut"? The guy who panders to people's worst fears? Or the guy who uses facts and evidence and reason?
I'd rather the guy who uses moral principles about the proper scope of government.
The policies that have constantly been refuted and shown to be wrong jeff?
“The guy who panders to people’s worst fears?”
You’re talking about Brandon, right? The guy who said, “they gonna put y’all back in chains!” and , “if you don’t vote for me, you ain’t black!”
That’s some hardcore pandering to fear right there, Jeff. So, yeah, ya gotta be talking about sleepy joe.
And that doesn’t even get in to the covid fear pimping. And climate fear pimping. All your accusations are projection.
I’d say every tyrant is an individualist. They just can’t allow anyone else to be one.
Don't confuse individualist with narcissist. Individualists understand that in order for their individualism to respected, they must recognize other's individuality. Narcissists care only about getting their way. It's not a philosophy, it's an unanalyzed pathological compulsion.
So jeff is ignorant to crowd sourcing. Good to know.
"I will take Elites over the Mob any day of the week."
That is why it is so bizarre to me that you call yourself an individualist. An individualist *is* the mob. It is the recognition that individuals are best to make the majority of decisions. The desire for a small number of Top Men to make decisions for the whole is collectivist- as a small group cannot define what is best for each individual.
"We will not get evidence-based, fact-based policy from the mob. "
Nor will you get it from the Elites. Were you paying attention this last 2 years? The Elites are the ones who demanded lockdowns based on falsified models. The Elites are the ones who discouraged and then demanded cloth masks- who pushed shaky science that has since been shown to be inconclusive or flat out contraindicated. The Elites promised a vaccine that would stop the virus cold, and prevent transmission. The Elites then mandated those vaccines when it was positively clear that their promises were wrong.
If you can look at the spectacular failure of the Elites and conclude that their governance is based on facts, you are delusional. They are not Elites because they have some superior grasp of the facts. They have *their* facts and they silence the dissent of people who disagree with them.
The Elites are just as emotional as any other person. The difference is that they have a sheepskin and the unearned conviction that their intelligence gives them the right to run our lives. And if they get a little rich out of the deal, well that's ok with them too.
"The ideal is to have minimal government, but in the absence of that, I will take government run by professionals rather than government run by paranoid emotional morons."
No this is absolutely wrong. An Elite will *never* give you a minimal government, because being an Elite means exercising your control over others decisions, and you cannot do that unless you are an Authoritarian regime. As long as you prefer the Elites, you are stuck with a growing government.
Jeff is essentially desiring intelligent design over evolution.
The mob can make many choices and filter put for the best outcomes.
Centralized planning almost never does.
Wow.
The elite government is a bunch of authoritarians propped up by their emotional moron constituency. How the fuck is that better?
Professionalism in government is pretty much always going to mean authoritarianism. Government shouldn't be a career. That's a huge part of the whole fucking problem if you care at all about individual rights.
I appreciate that Jeffy’s been exposing who he really is the last few days.
Never amazes me how some people can be so willing to show in public how idiotic and out of reality their thinking is.
We’re living Casdyshack. It’s the slobs versus the snobs. WithTrump as Al Czervik, and Biden as Judge Smails.
I would cast McConnell or any of the Bushes or a Neocon as Smails. Biden as Carl Spackler. I was going to say the gopher but it was too smart.
Just look at this fucking Nazi bullshit:
https://www.spiked-online.com/2022/02/06/big-tech-vs-the-working-class/
It would be awsome if truckers stopped delivering food to silicone valley
Funny, that is the exact tactic that the Canadian government is using to try and stop the trucker protest. They are blocking access to food, lodging, fuel and restroom facilities.
They’ll be fine, everyone knows food comes from the grocery store!
An Uber Eats convoy would cripple woke urban areas.
There is a new convoy in New Zealand that is being as disruptive as Canada. Silence from most of media.
Note that this is the same treatment that the yellow-vest protests in France got. That shit went on for MONTHS, but it was mostly crickets from the international press about it because the protests were specifically about pushing back against Macron's stupid Paris Accord climate change policies.
GoFundMe is wrong about the truckers, but they are a private business who have a right to withhold their services from whomever they choose.
The ability to easily raise money on a website is something that didn’t exist until GoFundMe (and others) invented it. They don’t owe anyone the use of this new invention, especially since they are not even the only ones offering such a service.
People have found ways to fundraise before GoFundMe, before the World Wide Web, before the Internet. It is baloney to talk about GoFundMe as if it is their only possible way to raise money for their cause.
Your oversimplification misses the point entirely. That you don't recognize this for what it is makes you a useful idiot.

Conservatives like to play the victim all of the time, but they are about 40% of the American population. They are not powerless. They are perfectly capable of having their own websites, ISPs, service providers, media, and on and on.
Playing the victim is wonderful, though, when you want to justify things like the January 6th riots, or a 17-year-old walking around with a rifle and shooting a bunch of people. "We're just fighting back..."

Attempting to exclude people from lawful commerce due to their political beliefs is wrong. Monopolists erecting barriers to entry while acting in an increasingly activist manner is wrong, and dangerous. This is basic minority protection stuff, here (as a member of an ill-regarded political minority this should be of some concern to you). It needs to be countered before it becomes an insurmountable problem.
We need more moderating and freedom-guaranteeing institutions if we're not to splinter off into warring tribes, and the upper echelon of the private sectors is simply not pulling its weight here.

I didn't support 1/6 or defend the rioters, though I'm uncomfortable with the heavy-handed reaction in response to it.
Rittenhouse, though? Aren't you sick of getting your nose rubbed into something you were so very wrong about? That's kind of terrible mischaracterization makes it clear that you're exactly the troll you're often accused of being.
This might make sense if they hadn’t already accepted all the money, and were starting to fraudulently send it to other causes.
But missing the part of the story that makes your side look bad is what you do, bird.
They tried to steal 9 million in donations to keep their 7% commission dumbass. They also uses specious reasoning as they actively supported CHOP.

The right has always been for the worker. Any group that favors an income tax is against the worker
Shoe on Head said it best:

Remember... Immediately after Trump got elected, libertarians were suddenly being labeled alt-right all over the mainstream press. Within hours, every publication was in agreement on this. Reason became alt-right. Even leftists like Greenwald became alt right.
This is not even a little bit new.
Well, there is a difference between intellectual conservatism, and what passes for the right-wing vanguard nowadays. I have a ton of respect for thinkers and intellectuals who can make the scholarly case for reducing the size of government and for market-based solutions to social problems. But that is not what is in the foreground today. Today, this is the type of stuff in the foreground in right-wing America:
https://archive.fo/8hE3x
"As part of the “stop-woke” agenda of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), Florida lawmakers are now considering bills that would allow almost anyone to object to any instruction in public school classrooms. DeSantis wants to give people the right to sue schools and teachers over what they teach based on student “discomfort.” The proposed legislation is far-reaching and could affect even corporate human resources diversity training."
Read the whole article. They are going crazy. This is not intellectual conservatism. This is using the raw might of the state to wage culture war battles. And yes that is repellant and ought to be rejected.
Because that is where the danger lies... Always in the reaction. Never in the effort to indoctrinate children with racist ideology.
Here is an easier solution. Stop trying to indoctrinate kids in order to create a generation of racists who are nearly divided so you can take political advantage. Doesn't that make a lot more sense than worrying about people taking the wrong approach to stopping them?
"Here is an easier solution. Stop trying to indoctrinate kids in order to create a generation of racists who are nearly divided so you can take political advantage."
But that's his raison d'etre.
Even if there was this epidemic of racism being taught in public schools - Team Red already banned CRT in Florida. So why is this new bill needed?
See!
You can't even hold the concept in your head, can you. It is only about who the enemy is, not about what is happening, where the danger is coming from, or what the net result of any of this will be.
I cannot imagine living life as a herd animal. I know that most humans live this way. But I am simply not capable of even understanding how that works.
Look, Cyto. I don't know how to explain it any clearer. Even accepting your premise that there was this epidemic of "racist indoctrination" in Florida schools in the form of CRT, Team Red in Florida ALREADY BANNED IT. They did that last year.
So, again, why is this NEW bill needed?
And teachers are openly defying the state law you ignorant moron.
They are still teaching CRT based racism as part of their curriculum. Teachers are openly defying both the state and parents.
What do you not understand? You've supported this behavior from teachers openly.
Yeah!!!
Stop talking about the main point!!!! Come over here and look at some detail of the reaction!!!!!
It is dumb.
Stop trying to recreate a racist society and all of the reactions to these efforts go away.
If folks like you on the left would actually spend time reining in the nutjobs pushing this stuff, rather than running cover for them, you wouldn't need to be criticizing DeSantis.
This really isn't different than the vaccines. You spend hours and hours criticizing Abbot and DeSantis for mandate-bans, but can't muster more than a "meh" for the mandates in the first place. Well, get ready for much, much, much more disappointment.
A majority of the Right, and a majority of Center disagree with this BS, Jeff. So one of two things is going to happen. Either the minority on the Left who doesn't support these policies talks their party off the ledge, or the Right is going to define the reaction. I was trying to get you to realize this back in october of last year, and you called me emotional. Well, I get the feeling you are going to be emotional soon, because 60% of the country is pushing back against your side, and you have squandered the opportunity to be part of defining what that looks like.
Or in more long form.
"Either the minority on the Left who doesn't support these policies talks their party off the ledge, or the Right is going to define the reaction."
And the right will define the reaction as public sentiment has shifted heavily in that direction. When the castrated Canucks (sorry canadians here, but if your country were a person it would be a beta male in an apron getting yelled at by his non-binary wife/husband) are starting to revolt with much of the world in support of them, the left has completely lost the narrative war. People are fed up. Glad the SCOTUS will at least stay 6-3 and the libs wont get a crack at touching the court until 2028.
LOL I'm not "on the left". And once again you are proving my argumentation rule among many commenters:
It's Always Team Blue's Fault
Team Red goes way overboard in trying to ban CRT, and it's still Team Blue's fault.
Team Red banned CRT in Florida last year. And Team Red is still trying to ban things. But it's still Team Blue's fault.
At what point is Team Red's overreaction Team Red's fault?
"I'm not on the left, I'm just an anti-rightist who acts as their apologist at every turn."
But it's everyone else who is caught in binary thinking, according to this fat piece of shit.
"I'm not on the left, I'm just an anti-rightist who calls out bullshit right-wing arguments"
there, fixed it for you
You’re just a leftist liar Jeffy. Fixed enough for you?
Right, that's why you're a simp for lefties and Democrats who whines every time they get criticized, fat boy.
Yes, the current problem of racist indoctrination in schools is team blue's fault. If they would stop it, as the legislatures of many states have instructed them to do, Team Red would stop reacting to it.
I can't rule out that they will go too far in some sense. But it is a reaction to something that is really happening.
"LOL I'm not "on the left"."
Sure, Chemjeff.
"It's Always Team Blue's Fault"
No. It is your fault. I don't know how much more clearly I can explain this to you. You have the power to change things, and you don't.
This is such a simple calculation. You say you don't support authoritarian policies of the Left. And you say you don't support the reactions from the right. So, stop the Left from implementing the authoritarian policies of the Left, and we no longer have a problem. Right? You get two birds with one stone.
But instead, all you can ever do is scream "Stop Resisting. No, truly, I don't support the raping, but really defending yourself with a kick to the balls is too much. Stop it. Stop resisting so hard!"
Don't call me a leftist jeff screams as he calls everyone else alt right.
Even if? You have been given a plethora of primary sources of what is being taught and ignored each and every instance.
He and Tony were conspicuously absent from the recent CRT articles, especially the one saying "yes CRT is directly being pushed, yes they are making us do it, yes it is absolutely CRT" from a teacher, being forced to teach students this trash.
Aside from never responding to the piles of evidence that its happening, that is
I tried calling out Jeffy for days after that article because he ignored it, but I think he’s actually muted me.
Maybe the nearby McDonalds has the two Big Macs for two bucks deal and he’s been busy with that.
"As part of the “stop-woke” agenda of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), Florida lawmakers are now considering bills that would allow almost anyone to object to any instruction in public school classrooms."
WHAT? PEOPLE might be ALLOWED to OBJECT to PUBLICLY FUNDED classroom exercises? That certainly cannot be!
Why, exactly, is this a problem, Jeff?
"DeSantis wants to give people the right to sue schools and teachers over what they teach based on student “discomfort.” The proposed legislation is far-reaching and could affect even corporate human resources diversity training.""
...And?
How dare people be allowed to schools for their actions? Is that how it should work? And if my work forces me to take an "equity" training that is nothing than an attack on me...why would it be bad for me to sue them for creating a hostile work environment? We allow it for several other things...why not this?
You're whole "Read this piece from the Washington Post to REALLY understand rightist thinking" schtick is a bit tiresome.
If students have the right to object to every element of a curriculum, then what you end up with is not education, but pandering to the lowest common denominator. What is the point then?
Teacher: Write a five-page essay on Romeo and Juliet.
Student: That makes me upset, they were cisnormative straight white European dudes! I'm gonna sue!
Teacher: Write a five-page essay on the topic of gun violence in America.
Student: That makes me upset, you are denigrating my Real Murican Right to own a gun! I'm gonna sue!
How is anyone supposed to truly learn anything if the curriculum is supposed to pander to everyone's most delicate feelings?
And by the way, the two sides have completely flip-flopped over the past 6 years or so, when it was the snowflake Yale students who objected to being 'triggered' and demanding 'safe spaces' when there was some curricular element that they didn't like. Now your team is on the side of protecting the delicate snowflakes from hearing strange words that upset them.
Real education is supposed to challenge the student. Do you want students to have a real education? Or do you want students to just know a bunch of memorized facts that don't make them feel upset? This world needs more critical thinkers, and fewer drones with credentials who don't really know how to think.
Students already have that right. That should have been your argument. Parents already have that right.
Of course, your team is trying to criminalize exercising that right. At the national level. But, for purposes of this discussion, you never heard of Merrick Garland. So that thought never even crosses your mind. Not even when it's pointed out.
Watching shills for team-based governance twist themselves in knots is a surreal experience. I swear, these guys would be standing at the gates of Auschwitz with bull horns telling people to stop complaining about the food.
Students already have that right. That should have been your argument. Parents already have that right.
Not currently they do. A parent cannot sue a school for causing his/her student some vague level of "discomfort" based on the curriculum, without having it tossed out in a howl of laughter.
And no, Merrick Garland isn't trying to criminalize parents suing schools. Yet another fake news story that twisted actual events into some dystopian nightmare.
"Merrick Garland wants to hold meetings to discuss the issue of possible intimidation and violence at certain school board meetings" ---> "THEY WANT TO THROW PARENTS IN JAIL FOR SPEAKING OUT"
Please, join us back in the reality-based community
So why is the FBI knocking on doors of 'unruly' (identified by school officials and teachers union members) parents and having a 'talk' (sounds like a warning/threat to me), chemjeff?
Those are the tactics of the East German Stasi, or the Soviet KGB.
By all means, please join us back in the reality based community. Your head seems very firmly jammed up your anus. We can help you with that problem.
Provide a citation of precisely what you are referring to and then maybe we can have a discussion about whether these "chats" are justified, or are "East German Stasi" level.
Fuck off you sea lion piece of shit. You ignore all evidence.
Maybe he’ll learn how to google someday.
No. YOU provide a cite supporting your argument. The burden is on you tubby,
Collectivistjeff has never lived in the reality based community
I Saw him do it live on national TV. No amount of protesting that the sky is not blue is going to make me unsee what I saw.
The White House even admitted that they planted the entire thing. We have the letter. We have them requesting that the letter be written.
What kind of moron keeps insisting that water is not wet, the sky is not blue, And bears don't s*** in the woods?
"What kind of moron keeps insisting that water is not wet, the sky is not blue, And bears don't s*** in the woods?"
When the playbook is almost entirely out of 1984, what do you expect them to do?
I Saw him do it live on national TV.
Really? You saw Merrick Garland live on national TV say "I'm gonna throw parents in jail for protesting at school board meetings?" Really? That *would* be something!
Or, maybe what you actually saw Merrick Garland do on TV, is discuss this memo?
https://www.justice.gov/ag/page/file/1438986/download
"To this end, I am
directing the Federal Bureau of Investigation, working with each United States Attorney, to
convene meetings with federal, state, local, Tribal, and territorial leaders in each federal judicial
district within 30 days of the issuance ofthis memorandum. These meetings will facilitate the
discussion of strategies for addressing threats against school administrators, board members,
teachers, and staff, and will open dedicated lines of communication for threat reporting,
assessment, and response. "
Sounds decidedly less "Stasi-like" than what you claim.
Cyto, you are a king of paranoid thinking around here. Please, put down the bong for a moment.
Ah, we're back to the "they jus' havin' meetins', gaiz" line of bullshit, despite the DoJ and the NSBA getting caught red-handed in collaborating on the letter that the latter produced as the pretext for treating parents like domestic terrorists.
Of course he is. It’s Pedo Jeffy. It’s what he does.
He literally said he was using the elite anti-terroriam unit to target parents. You know... The guys they use to ferret out Al-quaeda.
And the memo was a sham asked for by the white house to justify the actions he was taking.
Your talking points are lies.
Not alternate interpretations.
Straight up lies.
I see. So the actual evidence in front of us is all lies, and the "truth" is composed of Cyto's paranoid interpretation of reality.
This is one of the better examples in recent years. Garland came out and announced that he was tasking the FBI and DOJ's "elite counterterrorism unit" with evaluating and investigating the threats posed by right wing activists at school board meetings. They were very proud of the fact.
They did not equivocate, diminish or seek to qualify it in any way. They clearly felt like this was a solid win.
Then the backlash began. How dare you investigat parents for participating in their local school board meetings!!
Oops.
Suddenly they changed their tune. "We are just tagging threats and assisting in investigating incidents of violence!".
Uh-huh.
And magically, every fact check org in the country put out an article the same day saying that "FBI investigates parents" has been debunked.
Because the AG now qualifies it saying that invoking the "elite counter terrorism unit" to investigate threats to school board meetings in the context of complaints about CRT and transgender bathrooms was simply the same thing they always do. They always assist local authorized in investigating incidents of violence, he says!
Which is also a lie. The FBI does not in fact always assist local authorities in investigating incidents of violence. They have very little authority to do so, in fact. And the "debunkers" claim that nobody called parents terrorists. Which is a straight lie. The only thing the counter terrorism unit is for is investigating terrorists.
The admi istration spent a year telling us that white nationalists are the greatest threat of terrorism in America... Then invoked the counter terrorism unit to investigate opposition to racist ideologies being thought in school....
But "fact check" false... Because no parents have actually been arrested and prosecuted by the DOJ.
It is among the dumbest lies I have ever heard. And you party shills are replete with dumb lies.
Parents being investigated by the FBI. Even if nothing legal comes of it, that is some serious intimidation.
Note that Garland was completely talking about the ed establishment, and not a work about students or their parents. He is a shit.
Show me a specific instance of what you are describing when it comes to "parents investigated by the FBI".
Wtf do you think the counter-terrorism unit does Lying Jeffy?
Whatever else it may be, it's certainly outside of federal jurisdiction.
Can you at least object to it on those grounds, jeff?
He can’t do that because his entire premise is that nothing is happening except some “conversations”.
Lying Jeffy is a disingenuous shit, and always has been.
if the FBI is actually exercising police powers to attempt to enforce state laws, then yes, that is out of their jurisdiction.
I see nothing wrong per se with just holding meetings. Let them meet all they want about anything they want.
Now, can you at least admit that Team Red has distorted and twisted this incident to make it seem way more sinister than it actually is?
Conversations with the FBI are threatening and carry significant danger. How many people have been sent to prison simply for making untrue statements to the FBI?
Interactions with law enforcement agents are not nice, innocent things. They are intimidation and can easily lead to criminal penalties for people who have done nothing wrong (ask Martha Stewart if you don't believe it).
Lying Jeffy knows this Zeb, but he’s pretending he doesn’t for this situation because he’s inherently dishonest.
Conversations with the FBI are threatening and carry significant danger. How many people have been sent to prison simply for making untrue statements to the FBI?
Zeb, please read the above citation. The conversations were not between the FBI and accused parents. The conversations were between the FBI and state & local law enforcement organizations. If the cops want to have conversations with other cops about what to do, I don't find that particularly terror-inducing or worthy of hyperbolic screeching about OMG STASI.
Imagine being a parent in Lying Jeffy’s world. You just had an argument with the school board the night before at the meeting, and you hear the FBI is at your kids school the next day.
Hey, just having meetings. Just having chats.
It takes a certain kind of sociopath to express this position on a libertarian comment board, while pretending you’re one of the few actual libertarians there.
And, we had Ken treating it as if it were a fact that the FBI was being sic’d on parents, when no sic’ing actually happened before Garland publicly walked the plan back after negative public reaction.
And, like you chemjeff, I’ll be accused of being a “lefty” just became I want to stick to debating about events that actually have been proven to have occurred, not events that happened only in people’s feelz.
Yeah, so good thing people took it seriously so there would be negative public reaction and it didn't get to the point of actually siccing the FBI on parents.
Notice the slight of hand Mike tries to pull here at the last minute on a cold thread.
He asserts that the FBI wasn't being sent after parents because Garland WALKED BACK THE PLAN after the backlash.
Mike is being disingenuous saying, "you were in no danger, because we stopped when you saw us putting you in danger". It is the worst kind of trolling. But that is Mike for you.
Just the other day he was trying to lie about what I said:
https://reason.com/2022/02/07/gofundme-rejects-fundraising-for-canadian-freedom-convoy/?comments=true#comment-9343516
Isn’t it kinda fucked up that such a “plan” had to be “walked back”? Isn’t that the whole point?
But hey, they walked it back, so…
Mike Liarson is defending the FBI. Like all good “libertarians” do.
Fuck off you statist ignorant shit. Parents were indeed put into databases. This is known and evidence exists of it
"If students have the right to object to every element of a curriculum, then what you end up with is not education, but pandering to the lowest common denominator. What is the point then?"
They've DONE that. For years. Student groups (championed by admins, natch) routinely demand changes to curriculum.
"And by the way, the two sides have completely flip-flopped over the past 6 years or so, when it was the snowflake Yale students who objected to being 'triggered' and demanding 'safe spaces' when there was some curricular element that they didn't like. Now your team is on the side of protecting the delicate snowflakes from hearing strange words that upset them."
Amazing that "hey, do not teach open and blatant racism" is now "protecting snowflakes". Not sure how you define "snowflakes". I mean, outside of incorrectly.
So you didn't even read the article, not even the bits that you yourself highlighted?
This new bill would create a right to sue the school by parents who are "distressed" by the curriculum. Whether it has to do with racism or not. You don't see it as problematic that curriculum would then devolve to that of the lowest common denominator?
"This new bill would create a right to sue the school by parents who are "distressed" by the curriculum."
Again, how DARE parents have input in the curriculum they are forced to pay for on behalf of their children? Got it.
"Whether it has to do with racism or not."
Yet again...and?
"You don't see it as problematic that curriculum would then devolve to that of the lowest common denominator?"
No. Allowing teachers who have a degree in education already insures that the curriculum cannot go beyond lowest common denominator.
Then you don't actually want genuine education, you want drones spouting facts. That is a pity. We need more critical thinkers, not credentialed drones.
Providing facts is education you ninny. "Teaching" kids how and what to think is indoctrination. That you continue to avoid that point is obvious to everyone here.
Teaching kids HOW to think is "indoctrination"? LOL it is the complete opposite.
You have lost your mind. You must oppose me at every turn that you wind up looking foolish with comments like that, solely driven by an emotional reaction to me.
Teaching someone the correct way to think is the definition of indoctrination, regardless of whether you believe that indoctrination to be positive or negative. You are a moron and if you ever leave your parents' basement you might even be a little dangerous.
CRT teaches kids how and what to think of race and race relations. Forgoing the fact that race is a completely fabricated social construct and has no basis in science, education in this category would be teaching the kids the unadulterated history of this country, including slavery, and letting them come to their own conclusions based on those facts.
CRT teaches kids how and what to think of race and race relations.
Oh no! You mean, a particular theory is accompanied by a particular way to view the world?
Guess what, that is true of all theories. Each one is accompanied by a particular way to view the world.
So, a proper education ought to explore as many of these as possible. Explore the CRT way of looking at things. Then, explore other ways of looking at things. The aggregate of all of these experiences is a genuine education.
What is unacceptable, to me, is to tell students, "there are many ways to view this particular problem, but we will only study the 'approved' ones, because the rest are banned". That does not create critical thinkers, that creates drones that can regurgitate facts off of a state-approved list.
CRT is not a theory and nothing you just posted is even remotely rational, not to mention that I just proved you completely wrong and your response was to move the goal posts. Keep on pumping out that propaganda and we'll keep telling you to get bent.
CRT is not a theory
Umm, what do you think the T stands for?
Someone made an important point the other day, that the schools aren't teaching CRT, they are applying it to education. They aren't saying "here's this theory, let's discuss it and talk about whether it seems like a good idea". They are taking it as given and applying those assumptions to how students are instructed. This is not teaching critical thought. It is teaching one way of interpreting the world as truth. And that way of interpreting the world is vile and racist and destructive. There is nothing wrong with objecting to that garbage being taught in public schools.
CRT does not promote critical thinking. Gender theory does not promote critical thinking.
Hell, most teachers are, themselves, incapable of critical thinking.
He doesn't want indoctrination moron. Teachers are not some saintly group of intellectual thinkers. You have been given source material on what is taught. You intentionally ignore it.
Chemjeff, let's be clear about what is actually being said. Washington Post says:
"Under the Senate bill, Florida businesses could not mandate that employees attend diversity trainings that cause any individual to “feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any form of psychological distress."
But here is what the actual bill says that it is unlawful to give training that suggests "An individual should feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress on account of his or her race, color, sex, or national origin."
https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2022/7/BillText/Filed/PDF
Note the part that the WaPo omitted. It isn't "Hey if you feel distressed, you can sue." It is, "If training INSISTS you should feel white guilt because of your color".
The law is banning telling people to feel "discomfort", not giving people the right to sue if they feel discomfort.
So your fear is misplaced. Go scream at WaPo.
Perhaps someone should make a training about how African heritage makes you permanently guilty and inferior as a counterexample....
Except nobody would be smart enough to get it. They didn't get the Jewish bakery being asked to make a Nazi cake, they wouldn't get this.
Doublethink is a real thing.
Well, a lot of Africans were heavily involved in the slave trade. And the most brutal parts of it too, like fighting wars to take captives to sell as slaves. In fact they started it. And there are a lot more Africans than Americans participating in the slave trade today. So if being white makes one complicit in slavery and racism, then being black certainly does as well.
Well, a lot of Africans were heavily involved in the slave trade. And the most brutal parts of it too, like fighting wars to take captives to sell as slaves. In fact they started it.
Hell, they were trading slaves with the Berbers and Arabs centuries before the Portuguese kicked off the Atlantic slave trade in full force.
If students have the right to object to every element of a curriculum, then what you end up with is not education, but pandering to the lowest common denominator. What is the point then?
First of all, it's not students it's parents.
Second of all, who cares? Get rid of public school entirely is the only solution anyway.
Nobody is buying your bullshit. Go pretend to be libertarian somewhere else.
"Did I ever tell you about the importance of central planning in libertarianism? My version of libertarianism anyway. Tee, he." - t. chemjeff
No kidding right? He's like an apologist for a cult.
Collectivistjeff, postmodern nazi
Someone has to be the heavy.
Redirecting to, "BUT THE RIGHT WING REALLY IS BAD!!!" as if we didn't already know that is your default position, totally misses the point. The term "right-wing" has been rendered meaningless as a descriptor, mainly functioning now as a signal in our absurd status games.
Oh no, so the term "right-winger" among left-wing people, now means "bad person"?
Just like, the term "progressive" among right-wing people, now means "bad person"?
I find that totally shocking.
It's the redefinition on the fly that's important; it's a shitty tactic that's used commonly to muddy arguments. Plus, to Zeb's point, if it's the case that "Right Wing" is taken as simple shorthand for "bad" in the common parlance of elite society then it's indicative of a worrisome imbalance there (a reality which has been beaten to death at this point).
I don't know why you're being so dense about this.
He’s a weasel. This is his operation mode
I don't think chemjeff is being dense. He's just not saying the same things you are used to people in your echo chamber saying.
I don't think chemjeff is being dense.
Quelle surprise.
He's just not saying the same things you are used to people in your echo chamber saying.
He literally missed the point, twice. Three if you count ENB's article.
Do you have a cite to support this premise?
Jeff cries when you call him a leftist but is literally an example of someone ENB is talking about who claims everyone who disagrees with him as right wing.
He is a $0.50 troll. Nothing more.
You have been advocating for corporate censorship for 4 days now. You have no respect for any thoughts or ideas outside of your bubble. You've openly advocated against Rogan, dismissed well credentialed scientists for appearing on his show.
You are nothing but a leftist establishment troll.
He literally criticized Rogan for giving scary people a platform to speak.
I'm curious what you would say to laws like that if schools were, for example, teaching that blacks are inherently intellectually inferior and the Jews run all of world finance at everyone else's expense. Would you think it was inappropriate for states to pass laws banning that in public schools?
Instead of trying to ban ideas, schools should instead fire unprofessional bigoted teachers who teach nonsense.
And if that's not happening and the bad ideas are still being taught? The state government should just say "oh well" and let it continue?
Then fire the principal.
The point is, the issue is not the idea itself, but the unprofessional teacher teaching these ideas in an inappropriate and unprofessional manner. I would say the same thing if a math teacher was teaching their students that 3 times 4 equals 97. The issue is not the mathematics, the issue is the teacher doing a bad job teaching math.
That isn’t the issue here. They’re just teaching bullshit. Just like there is no way to teach other discredited things. Like phrenology and astrology. CRT is like that. Just utter crap, only useful to stoke racial divisions and advance social Marxism.
So no, it isn’t anything like teaching 3 times 4 equals 97.
Here Lying Jeffy pretends he’s not aware of teachers unions and how hard it is to fire teachers.
As usual, he’s too frightened of me to respond.
Are you going to back off this silly talking point now that I have shown (see above) that in fact the WaPo is mischaracterizing the legislation?
Haha no.
Skimmed both the article and the bill. Looks like more of the shitty reporting that Jessie Singal called out. Get back to me when there's an honest reporting of the bills.
What a shock, Jeffy uses this as a platform to attack republicans. Even though he is t a leftist at all.
More and more former liberals (well still liberal for the most part, but former "progressives") are coming to the conclusion that the left has completely lost their way and is ruled by authoritarian big tech, corporate-woke diversity culture, and about <1% of the population that is overly vocal on left wing twitter.
The days of caring about "the little guy", the working class, and classically liberal values are all gone. And if you dont fall into line with The Party on every issue, you are an alt-right racist misogynist bigot. That is the playbook now.

Many will grow up resenting the people who did this to them. And I won't blame them.

"Matthew Sheffield asserted that controversial podcaster Joe Rogan "overwhelmingly" favors "right-wingers" as guests. "
Chemjeff was singing from the same hymnal yesterday, although he used "whackos" instead of "right-wingers". Probably because it's more subjective for when he gets challenged on it.
From the sounds of it they both get the same talking-points bulletin.
Well that's really what "right-wing" means nowadays. There's no common ideology at play among supposed rightists in 2022 - it's pure guilt by category association with the Nazis.
All of this fake left/right paradigm, woke nonsense, and covid hysteria is one huge gaslight, meant to distract from the real issue of liberty vs. tyranny.
Just for the record, the Nazi party was left wing.
"National Socialist German Workers' Party"
Socialist. See that part? Socialist.
They too believed in government control of the economy and of the people.

July 28, 2020: Joe Biden suggests the coronavirus vaccine won't be "real" and may not be "safe."
August 6, 2020: Biden says the vaccine is "not likely to go through all the tests that needs to be and the trials that are needed to be done."
September 3, 2020: Biden asks "Who's going to take the shot? Are you going to be the first one to say sign me up?"
September 7, 2020: Biden said he would take the coronavirus vaccine "only if we knew all of what went into it."
Yes, but back then orangemanbad was a very important factor. Thanks to electoral fortification that dangerous element is no longer present, so very can all enjoy our experimental technology, mandatorily.
I think our elections are due for a booster.
Extra fortification is coming this fall.
Don't forget, Gavin Newsom promised he would not allow the Trump vaccine in California until the state independently validated its efficacy.
Ditto Cuomo in NY.
I was against the vax before I was for it
Hey, ENB! I can help you out with this whole "right winger" thing.
It becomes much easier to understand if you do a search and replace for "right wing" and substitute "counter-revolutionary".
Suddenly it becomes crystal clear what it means, and from whence the tactic derives.
Reactionary works too.
"right winger" is another word for "counter-revolutionary"

Well, I guess we do for their comments section. But I'm going to guess that that's not what he was talking about.
We've also got a whole lot of independents who can't stand either mainstream political party. More people now identify as independent than as either a member of the Democratic Party or of the GOP.
Amen!
Except you're not an independent. You're obviously a bog-standard Democratic Party advocate no matter how hard you pretend otherwise.
I said "acolyte" to my phone, but "advocate" works too.
I know alot if "independants" that are in lock step with the progressives and get pissed when you call them out on it. White Mike being one of them
Pretty much every single self-described "independent" that I've ever known has been a reliable Democratic voter promoting Democrat politicians and policies. It's not really an accident over the last 40 years that upswings in Independent classification tend to correlate almost perfectly with drops in Republican identification.
Maybe that's a product of where you live?
While leftists certainly have a practice of lying about their inclinations, in almost every opinion poll I ever see independents opinions/reactions track much more closely to Rs than Ds
Maybe that's a product of where you live?
No, it's been pretty consistent nationwide for decades. Gallup polls in particular show distinct correlations between Republican and Independent political identification, with two notable "bubbles" from 1990-2003 and 2006-2020. The last time Republican identification had been above 30% before this year was 2005, and that was on a downswing due to Iraq turning in to such a clusterfuck.
Funny thing; in the senate, all independents are democrats. Otherwise, the Republicans are the majority party, 50 - 48 - 2.
I suppose, right now at least, being an "independent" in Congress isn't necessarily the same thing at all as being an "independent" as a just an average voter.
I'm an independent libertarian. Until about ten years ago, I was a member of the Libertarian Party, but I left that party because it is so hopelessly dysfunctional.
I'm pretty down on the idea of political parties of any kind; maybe they should be outright illegal.
Imagine lying to yourself as much as this poor ole woman does. Everyday.
You can call yourself whatever you want.
Your ideas and beliefs are not libertarian nor independent.

Oregon drug decriminalization is off to a successful start
If by "successful" you mean the growth of the state. What an odd set of metrics to measure "success".
This will not end up the way intended. Decriminalization of use of drugs will increase the market demand. Markets for illegal products are met by criminals, who will compete for market share, and we can expect increased criminal activity in Oregon.
Fewer junkie arrests and more shootings.
In the year since the state decriminalized drugs, Oregon has already been able to provide peer support, harm reduction, evidence-based treatment, housing and job assistance to more than 16,000 people.
Legalization can only be tried so long as somebody makes money off of something.
Asset forfeiture of dispensary cash.
They also saw an uptic in murders and strong-arm robbery
The whole thing makes no sense—except as an exercise in labeling anyone out of step with progressive orthodoxy in any way at all as a right-winger.

I dare say you figured it out.
Only because it now threatens her personally. ENB is a lefty, but she's beginning to realize, you can never be left enough. You're always going to have to run further and further left to avoid the mob, and you'll never be able to run far enough. Eventually, they will come for you, a some stupid tweet you made when you were 20 will show up, and you'll be ruined because you'll never be able to apologize hard enough.
That's the problem with Marxist revolutions. They never end, and just because you made it through the first round of purges doesn't mean you'll make it thru the next one.

Today in mainstream media:.
A surprise! NBC news covered the Uyghur torch bearer controversy and even touched on mistreatment of the minority group in China.
The treatment was extremely light... But one cohost did even mention "we have seen them in camps being forced to learn Mandarin".
Quite stunning for the network with the Olympics. Of course, they opted not to send any on-air talent to China this time around. That might have something to do with it.
It was nice to learn of the SAT scores of that skier who renounced her US citizenship to ski for China.
Boy, did NBC go all-in on the love for Gu. They just love them some Gu.
Not a hint that renouncing your citizenship to compete for a country like China might be controversial.
They even offered cover by saying that a dozen other Americans were competing for other countries.
Not mentioned: these are mostly people with dual citizenship (by birth) who could not make the US national team and choose to compete for their other home nation rather than missing out.
Gu, on the other hand, was the favorite to win gold. Which, she in point of fact did.
NbC did helpfully point out that she has become an international superstar because of this move, and has picked up tens of millions in new endorsements in China.
The uyghur are about 1.2% of the population. So by a numbers standpoint the progtards should be okay with rounding up and enslaving any group who's numbers are lower than 1.2%. We should ask the psycho ts in LGBT if that's acceptable to them
You are asking this question the wrong way. This is not the way they think.
The question they would ask is, "would rounding up these people be useful to us?".
If the answer is yes, 40% would not be too large of a number. They have made this abundantly clear.
The percentage points of the alphabet crew are useful to them. So they would not be okay with that. But there are other groups that we have already heard calls for confining.

Soros can be on the right side of THIS issue and still be a destructive force regardless.
Stalin was on the right side in WW II. Does that make him a good guy?
I think Shrike admires Uncle Joe regardless of which side he was on, but your point is well taken.
The problem is that it's not even an accurate dichotomy.
What Soros is talking about is that an "open society" is one that promotes a left-liberal agenda, and anything that gets in the way of that is a "closed society." He's hardly concerned with promoting individual freedom, as evidenced by all the shitlib DAs whose campaigns he funded specifically to ensure that violent, thieving criminals would be free to commit crimes with a bare minimum of punishment, if any.
Soros' version of an "open society" is nothing more than anarcho-tyranny.

Being an attractive woman with a magnetic personality is a devastating combination. I cannot believe how hard the Democrats blew it by sabotaging her campaign. If she had been the representative, I get the feeling that we might be having a spate of articles about a permanent Democrat majority .
Instead, even the Democrats chills are worrying about how terrible the coming Republican hegemony is going to be.
Being an attractive woman with a magnetic personality is a devastating combination. I cannot believe how hard the Democrats blew it by sabotaging her campaign. If she had been the representative, I get the feeling that we might be having a spate of articles about a permanent Democrat majority
That's the thing--like I've said, the Surf Mommy is actually far-left, she's just very good at hiding her powerlevel, same as Sinema.
It’s actually pretty disappointing if you watch her appearance on Rogan where she discussed how she became so disillusioned with foreign intervention militarily.
Don’t remember the details, it was years ago, but basically she was in the military, and she realized how much all the bureaucrats fucked everything up, and caused even well-intentioned interventions to have negative outcomes.
Somehow, she can’t extrapolate that lesson to bureaucrats being in charge of domestic policy.
Remember how bad it was when Gawker was punished?
They're back and bragging that they have Sinema's SSN. But cannot do much with it legally.
At this point, Gawker is a wolf that's lost its fangs. It doesn't have the capability of driving the media cycle like it did a decade ago (its most influential writers are all at mainstream news outlets now, which is a big reason why the media's taken such a far-left turn since Gawker got nuked), any any punitive measures it takes against its political targets are going to result in it getting the Hulk Hogan treatment again.
Joe Rogan endorsed and voted for Bernie Sanders. He smokes pot and wants universal basic income.
They call him “alt-right” because they want the democrats to write him off without ever listening to him, to better control their minds.
They’re lying, or they’re stupid sheep.
True; the progs want a consistent and controlled message sans discussion. Because even questioning is apparently racist.
They are hoisting themselves on their own petard. Unfortunately their biggest ally is MSM [along with much of corporate America] who are scared shitless of becoming the object of Twitter outrage.
No one trusts MSM anymore except sheep.
Diversity in everything except ideas.
They are attacking him because vaccine money is at stake.
It's that simple.
Don't think so.
Neil Young is the one who started the ball rolling. He doesn't have any ties to vaccine money.
Robby Soave (IIRC) floated the theory on the Reason Roundtable that Neil Young's base motivation may have roots in his not liking being on Spotify in the first place because of its non-audophile sound quality. And then there's Neil Young's old man grumpiness. And, then who knows, maybe Daryl Hannah influenced him, too.
"The whole thing makes no sense—except as an exercise in labeling anyone out of step with progressive orthodoxy in any way at all as a right-winger."
----ENB
Joe Rogan shouldn't be anywhere near as successful as he is, and one of the secrets to his success is surely that he's one of the few mass media outlets out there who isn't restricting his pitch to the extreme left. Meanwhile, the failed business model that is CNN continues to implode--because, while they present themselves as a mainstream outfit, they pitch themselves exclusively to the extreme left.
"CNN saw a sharp decline in viewership the first week of 2022 with a nearly 90% drop both overall and in the critical demographic coveted by advertisers"
----Daily Mail
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10394997/CNN-loses-nearly-90-advertiser-coveted-demographics-overall-total-audience.html
They lost 90% of their audience?! The extreme left is an oversaturated market. There are far too many media outlets chasing the same small submarket of viewers.
It's the same thing with Gutfeld!, where they're clobbering mainstream shows featuring the Hollywood stars and starlets of the week on the late night talk shows--only Gutfeld is using Kat Timpf and a wrestler for an independent promotion. There is no good reason why Gutfeld!should be so successful--except that all of his competition, while casting itself as if they were mainstream, is only catering to the extreme left.
It's always tempting to imagine that what we see in the media is typical because they're the images and themes we're inundated with all the time. People used to judge themselves against TV sit-coms--as if the families in those television shows were average people in the middle class. It wasn't just the supposedly middle class shows with large families set in multimillion dollar mansions either. There's no way Al Bundy could have afforded that house on a shoe salesman's salary.
There's no way The King of Queens could afford to live in a house like that, in New York City, working as a UPS driver. There was no way some of those fat, old, bald guys were getting anywhere near the women who married to them in those TV shows either. He gets a girl like that--because he likes to watch TV and drink beer? The media shows us the way we wish our lives were in a contemporary American version of Merry Olde England--a world that doesn't exist.
That's what's going on in the media right now with the extreme left. The people who create this crap are creating an imaginary world that has completely broken with reality. Hollywood stopped pitching shit like The Andy Griffith Show because life in Mayberry just didn't resonate in the real world anymore. That's where we are in the cycle now. Joe Rogan and Gutfeld! are showing the way to resonate with viewers now. Before the rest of the media catches on, the extreme left, who still want America to live in their progressive world of make-believe, aren't going down without a fight. That's why you're seeing the attitude from CNN anchors and staff. We demand to see the details of why you fired Zucker!
You lost 90% of your audience! That's why. Nobody's watching your channel anymore because of the shit you put out. It no longer sells.
Disco became extremely unpopular really fast. It seemed like just after acts as big as the Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart, and Kiss put out disco records, disco suddenly became massively unpopular. That's what's happening now. Synth pop (Gutfeld) and punk rock (Joe Rogan) are connecting with average people in the street, and the progressives are still wearing polyester leisure suits and platform shoes with gigantic bell bottoms. I'm sure the progressives thought disco would last forever--just like Leisure Suit Larry--and just like Leisure Suit Larry, they're becoming a joke.
Good points thank you. We will see if this years election resonates [though the MSM and left you describe is doing everything it possible can to keep Trump relevant, as if her were going to be on the ballot indefinitely].
Plenty of people are just not watching the news anymore. i don't i got to multiple websites and none of them are old school MSM websites either and many people don't see any news anymore

Tucker Carlson is drawing four times the viewers of CNN at 8PM, and Gutfled is drawing about four times the viewers of CNN at 11 pm.
There may be more Democrats watching Fox than there are Democrats watching CNN.
Only old geezers _watch_ news anymore.
There's no way The King of Queens could afford to live in a house like that, in New York City, working as a UPS driver.
I will say that, in the late 90s, it was possible. It's not Manhattan where you're paying $2K or more a month for a 500-square foot glorified closet. Queens was and has been a working-class borough for a long time; it's where Archie Bunker lived, after all. If they bought the house in the early 90s when NYC was still a shithole, they could have afforded the mortgage.
I took it as Ken just scratching the surface. One of my favorite running gags from The Simpsons was people routinely asking Homer, effectively, "Aren't you supposed to be at work?"
Al Bundy did get Peg and I believed it. Just sayin'
I thought the pushback would be over the claim that Kiss put out a disco record. I was ready for it and everything.

Often the things Ken says are true, but only half true. He includes the part of the truth that backs up his belief that "progressives are the most evil people", but leaves out the other half that conservatives do many of the very same things he is complaining about the progressives doing. But Ken likes conservatives.
The Andy Griffith Show may have become unpopular, but it was not "shit":

Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards was the first video game I played all the way to completion.
Brilliant and innovative.
I love seeing what a fucking suck-ass Stelter was to Zucker.
And his praise of Spotify employees condemning Rogan sure makes CNN employees LACK of anger over the spate of pedos working there seem weird.
"There is no good reason why Gutfeld!should be so successful--except that all of his competition, while casting itself as if they were mainstream, is only catering to the extreme left."
You can say the same thing about Trump. There's no way Donald Trump should have won the election, just on his merits alone. Some of the goofballs who won Republican Congressional seats never should have won them, either, just based on their merits. The only reason they won is because the left created and live in their socialist fantasy land bubble, and won't come out to see that nobody wants this. And they'll take just about anything else.
But like the election, they're doing the same thing with their media. Instead of realizing they're not selling what Americans want, they blame Americans for not wanting what their selling.
Gutfeld understands television and his audience. He also has a quick wit. Not a surprise that he’s so successful.
JFTR, I'm not saying Gutfeld is only successful because he doesn't have any unwoke competition, but not having any unwoke competition doesn't hurt any.
I’d write for him.
Weird Red Pill moment from Reuters/Pro Publica on illegal immigration.
Reuters:
At age 16, when most kids in the United States are halfway through high school, Amelia Domingo found herself working on chicken processing machines in this farm town and deep in debt to loan sharks in her native Guatemala.
After borrowing $10,000 for smugglers to get her through Mexico, Amelia crossed into Arizona last February and turned herself over to [Customs and Border Protection] immigration officials. They led her, she said, from a crowded border facility to a shelter for unaccompanied minors. After about a month, officials from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which oversees shelters for migrant children, released her to a sister here in Alabama.
…
One day, she said, she hopes to return to Guatemala. First, though, she must continue wiring most of her wages home, where her parents pay off the loan sharks and what she said is a dizzying interest rate of 10% per month. She’ll return, she said, “if I ever have the means.”
Poultry industry workers in and around Enterprise told Reuters that migrants, including minors, easily obtain fake credentials and supply those to staffing firms who help them find work in area plants. The firms, they said, sometimes dock workers’ pay for services, including transportation to and from the workplace, and deny them benefits like overtime pay, sick days, time off and medical coverage.
Pro Publica:
He was 15 and he had debts to pay, starting with the roughly $3,000 he owed for the “coyote” who guided him across Mexico from Guatemala. To finance the trip, his parents had taken out a bank loan, using their house as collateral. If he didn’t repay it, the family could lose its home.
…
Within a week of arriving, Garcia accompanied his aunt and uncle to the factory where they worked making auto parts. He got hired on a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. shift, cleaning newly made screws and bolts with an air blow gun. Workers wore safety goggles to protect their eyes from the shards of metal that blew in their faces. It was a dirty job. “I didn’t like it, working with so many oily parts,” he recalled. “And it was dangerous.”
The standard opposition to illegal immigration (before Obama) was always about protecting illegal immigrants from unscrupulous employers.
It's a union thing. The unions don't want to compete with cheap, unregulated labor, and when the Democratic party recovers from their progressive hangover, that's where they'll land again.
"The standard opposition to illegal immigration [on the left] (before Obama) . . . "
Should have added that the first time.
Which should lead any rational human being to question exactly what is happening .
Because both sides have had plenty of time to do immigration reform.
When Bush Jr tried to do a massive and comprehensive immigration reform, Democrats (and some Republicans) blocked him at every turn.
Obama talked a good game, but his only reforms were to increase illegal immigration. That's not a reform, that's making the problem worse. On purpose.
So one has to ask, if both sides are doing the same thing, despite rhetoric to the contrary, are they really an opposition? Or do they want illegal immigration, perhaps for different reasons?
This is where I get really frustrated with my flagship libertarian publication. For some reason they have gotten wrapped up in the idea of freedom of movement and have embraced illegal immigration. This fails to differentiate from either major party at all .
And it is unequivocally the worst, most destructive position to take. It is what allows worker exploitation. It is what traps first generation immigrants in low wage jobs where they can work without proper documentation, often for cash.
This should be an easy call for any libertarian or for any immigrant rights group. All of these policies that encourage illegal immigration should be violently opposed by all of the above. Yet for some reason immigrant advocacy groups jump up and down and cheer for Democrats like Obama and Biden. Even though they are the ones directly responsible for ensuring that workers are exploited and that coyotes exist.
For some reason they have gotten wrapped up in the idea of freedom of movement and have embraced illegal immigration. This fails to differentiate from either major party at all .
Except for the part of "let's stop making it illegal".
Get rid of the welfare state first dummy.
Most imigrants are paying off coyotes and cartels. this has been know for decades and for some reason the Union Bosses have been payed off and are okay with this. I 'm amazed that this rarely gets noticed and should be addressed, many come here by force from threat from cartels on their families back home. the cartels probably get just as much money from that as they do from drugs

Sounds a lot like what happened during the Gilded Age with the company towns.

Hoping there will be a happy ending to this story.
A big climax!
Hopefully, someone has the stroke to make this happen.
Or they'll have a stroke trying.
If there is stiff opposition to this, supporters may not be able to handle it.
That could be a hard one to swallow.

So believing in evolutionary biology automatically makes you a liberal? Plenty of conservatives and believers in religion also believe in evolutionary biology. I know i do
Hint to ENB: David French was, literally, zero idea what conservatives think about anything.
Yeah, that guy is even more of a token than Juan Williams. At least Williams tries to present a left perspective. French is to the left of old (young) Biden.
Not to mention that it feels very much like the old NPR tactic of "All things considered" between a moonbat leftist and a left centrist:
In 2022, this statement makes perfect sense. In virtually any year between like 1750 and 2015, a self-professed liberal saying "The people in power get to make the rules." would be inconceivable.

I think you have it exactly. Rogan is rough around the edges, flirts with kooky ideas and is definitely not polished like Savannah Guthrie.
But he is genuinely curious and he lets guests talk at length, expressing their ideas and fleshing them out. This obviously demonstrates that he is not propaganda. Whether the ideas are right, wrong, or so goofy as to be "not even wrong", he lets them come out and get explored. People like that. It is honest.
We used to have a lot of that. Charlie Rose. Larry King. Even some 60 minutes bits with Mike Wallace.
Now everything is talking points, all sung from the same hymnal.
But not Rogan. Not other YouTube/podcast personalities like Crowder, Carolla, Shapiro... Not even the kookier ones that were cancelled first, like Beck and Jones. Right or wrong, they mostly seem to be authentic voices.
You don't get that on the mainstream. Not even MSNBC voices like Maddow. Just all message, all the time.
That is why Rogan is the king of political shows... With some 11+ million daily listeners. Crowder and Carolla are also bigger than the cable news channels.
Which I think explains the panic across the political spectrum and in the media. With Twitter, Facebook and Google locked up, along with the mainstream press both in print and television, the Democrats thought they had a monopoly on communications.
Then someone looked over and realized that their audience was sneaking away to podcasts and YouTube shows. Squeezing those outlets worked somewhat, but it is led to the rise of independent media companies and hosting platforms like daily wire, rumble, and podcast one.
They are desperate to kill this off. That is why you were seeing such bile directed at Rogan. You cannot have a dissident voice of the left that is larger than any of the national nightly news hosts telling young left leaning people facts that are not included in the DNC script.
Right or wrong, they mostly seem to be authentic voices.
That is the product that Rogan is selling. A veneer of authenticity. But it is a deception. It is a lie by omission. Sure he will have a three-hour conversation with Dr. Malone or Jordan Peterson. When will he have a three-hour conversation with, say, a pro-lockdown advocate? When will he have a three-hour conversation with the people who want to criminalize the use of 'wrong' pronouns? It's his selection of guests that is the origin of his bias.
SO what?
Rogan's pro-'punch chemjeff radical individualist in the face at every opportunity' listenership is being grossly under served.
Yes. Yes he will. And has.
Except.... Now the bat signal is lit. Those among the woke cannot platform him with their presence.
Just off the top of my head, he's had Sanjay Gupta on who obviously has differing views with a very nice 3 hour talk about it. He's also had many left wing opinions on including super liberal David Pakman, has sat down with multiple members of TYT, famously had Dave Rubin on when Rubin flipped to being anti-TYT and pro trump (and Joe pushed back and shits on him, making him look like an idiot multiple times). The Aussie doc he had on that is pro-vax literally fact checked him in real time on the show and ROGAN fucking tweeted it.
Had Andrew Yang on, and supports UBI. Had Bernie on, and supports Bernie (voted for him in primary).
Seems like another of your "CRT isnt even happening" moments where you have done no research into the claim at all and there are multiple counter examples you bury your head in the sand to hide from.
Jeff does all his research on Twitter, like ENB.
It's a rather overt false equivalence on chemjeff's part. Having an 'Are Jews harmful?' guest on, no matter what they say, is beyond the pale but the 'We need a policy for dealing with Jews' demographic is being ignored by Rogan.
The problem Lying Jeffy is having is that many of us have been listening to Rogan for years, and he admitted at the end of last year he never had heard of his podcast.
Within about a week he went from never having heard of him, to having a strong negative opinion of him. At the exact same time the left started attacking him. There’s no realistic way he could have objectively formed an opinion of someone who’s been doing 3 hour podcasts for over a decade in just a couple weeks.
So he makes up bullshit to fit the narrative he’s paid to endorse, but too many people can see the bullshit for what it is.
"Within about a week he went from never having heard of him, to having a strong negative opinion of him. At the exact same time the left started attacking him."
Most notably, at the exact time the leftist media started ramping up their attack, Jeffy and the lefty crew on here simultaneously in lock step started the same. The one day he shit up an entire thread with responses of "where'd you get that, Dr. Joe Rogan?!?!" even when it was a day Rogan wasn't particularly in the news and it had absolutely nothing to do with the comment. All of a sudden he was on a very specific mission to shit on Rogan.
Funny how the "not lefty witch-hunters" all showed up at the same coordinated time, with torches and pitchforks.
Are you sure that wasn’t mike? Seems there’s a lot of people and things he’s never heard of even though he’s commented on them before.
I know, tomato, tomahto.
When will he have a three-hour conversation with, say, a pro-lockdown advocate?
Do you want me to point you to them?
Sure, if you want. I'll take a listen to one of them this evening if I can.
Liar.
I'll ask him tomorrow if he did.
And even if he HADN'T (which he has) you're missing the point. We have the pro-lockdown argument. We have CNN, we have Brian Stelter, we have Don Lemon, we have Dr. Wen, we have Jen Psaki, we have Gavin Newsom, we have Dr. Fauci, we have Rochelle Walensky, we have The View, we have ABC, we have NBC, we have CBS, we have The New York Times, we have The Washington Post, we have hundreds of other dailies across the nation, we have the head of the NIH, we have the CDC, we have Joy Behar, we have Rachel Maddow. Rogan represents the counter balance to all of the above (and my examples are really only a tiny snowflake tip of the iceberg).
If you want to have a 3 hour conversation with Jen Psaki, then start your own podcast so we can finally get their voices heard.
But you are making my point. The product that he is selling is not a 'free-wheeling exploration of ideas'. His product is, "access to forbidden knowledge from beyond the mainstream".
And you wish to silence him.
You are no radical individualist. You are chemjeff wannabea statist.
I wonder how much of that (insofar that it's accurate) is a filling of a market niche formerly occupied by the voices deplatformed and otherwise suppressed in recent times. It's difficult to attract Alex Jones viewers when they're off listening to Alex Jones.
"His product is, "access to forbidden knowledge from beyond the mainstream"His product is, "access to forbidden knowledge from beyond the mainstream""
And this gives away exactly what the problem is with both the MSM and your thinking.
All of the "forbidden info" he discusses comes down to the rational conversation any thinking individuals should be having. The lab leak is the perfect example. Like a month into the pandemic he had Bret Weinstein on and they talked about the fact that anyone with a brain should suspect a lab leak. This was "forbidden info" and if you put it forward before, you were labeled as a racist, conspiracy theorist, crank. Laughed at by the MSM and silenced on social media and video platforms.
The left and the MSM is happy to label anything not fitting their preferred narrative as "forbidden info" and completely censor, silence, shut down rational conversation. Rogan is just having those conversations. And after years of increasing censorship while being fed the blatantly false pile of BS from the MSM, people are starved for rational conversation without censorship from the preferred-narrative-peddlers.
Ivermectin is another one. Instead of the media putting out the evidence and saying what studies have shown, they lied, said it was harmful (the human dose isnt, at worst its probably just not effective other than some minor side effects...its not even completely contraindicated in pregnant women ffs; cat C) and they tried to smear a fucking medicine by making fun of it as "horse medicine" when clearly the vast majority of people were taking human doses. In fact, no idiots would have had to even think about fucking with the horse version if the MSM didnt essentially get it banned in society. Medicine isnt supposed to be "forbidden information" it should be discussed by actual scientists (and no, not the ones working at the CDC). Oh btw, Japan is actually making the effort to study it further and having good results so far (showing good antiviral activity). Cant wait until that comes out.
This is the whole game. The authoritarians that want some things to be "forbidden" are the enemy. They are not pro freedom, not pro free speech. They want you to do ONLY what they say, and will work to make anything else forbidden, censored, shunned. This practice is what is causing millions to run to listen to an honest, openly curious guy sit down and shoot the shit with everybody.
Okay, I am starting to understand your thinking now.
You actually think the government, and Big Tech, are literally characters from 1984, right? That they are deliberately trying to control the information people get out of nothing more than a totalitarian desire to control everyone's thoughts? There is no possible good motive for what they are doing, it is an exercise in sheer power. They are controlling information *because they can* and they don't need a good reason to do it. Does that about sum it up?
"There is no possible good motive for what they are doing, it is an exercise in sheer power. ....
They are controlling information *because they can* and they don't need a good reason to do it."
...Sorry I guess I have to quote past you, from one sentence ago as to what the reason to do it is...
"it is an exercise in sheer power. ...." - chemjeff
It always was, and still is. Silencing those that question the approved narrative...is OF FUCKING COURSE an exercise in keeping power, expanding power, and ensuring dissenters are shunned. Dude I dont even know why I have to explain it to you! You had it in the paragraph!
And to put a bow on it, the campaign against Rogan is 1000% because he is taking views, clicks, and peoples precious listening time away from every MSM source, away from big daddy govt, away from the DNC narrative. You think they actually care about "misinformation?" They pushed a CDC study for months that was criticized as shoddy science from its release, and we have known for some time cloth masks have no effect; more recent psych studies showing kids are more hurt by masks. They could give a fuck about sound scientific research and good data.
So you think they really care that Joe is "pushing misinformation?" Naive child. They care that he is pulling minds and money away from them. A fucking dummy comedian, backed and produced by no one but himself, has outdone them by doing nothing but bullshitting with people in front of a mic. He is guilty of wrongthink, wrongspeak, and most importantly, having an ever increasing influence.
What a completely disingenuous paragraph.
And you try to call yourself a libertarian or an individualist?
I'm much rather Remy do a 3 minute parody of Psaki to Gwen Stefani's Hollaback Girl. Just sayin'.
Please keep blathering your uninformed attacks against Rogan. It helps anyone not convinced you’re a completely dishonest shill see you for what you are.
The "doesn't toe today's party line" definition of "rightwinger" is neither new nor surprising, though it certainly yields some weird results.
But episodes like this do serve the public in one way -- by revealing the whatever-serves-my-needs-right-now "principles" of culture warriors.

The list of Rogan guests does highlight something telling, just not what Sheffield thinks it does. It shows how inadequate the language of left versus right is for discussing politics and cultural leanings in 2022.
Really? That is the best you could come up with, Elizabeth? It shows much more than that, my dear. It isn't 'the right' that is up in arms about Joe Rogan; it is the left. The Right's attitude seems much more 'live and let live'.
Even that Anna chick from The Young Turks had to concede this. She said Ben Shapiro has a larger audience than she does and his audience is not pissed off that he was talking to her. Meanwhile, her audience was livid.
journalist Matthew Sheffield asserted that controversial podcaster Joe Rogan "overwhelmingly" favors "right-wingers" as guests.
Even if this is true, so what?
journalist Matthew Sheffield asserted that controversial podcaster Joe Rogan "overwhelmingly" favors "right-wingers" as guests.
These stalinists are entirely disingenuous. There is a huge difference between calling to silence someone so no one can hear their message vs. "stop teaching my kids this crap in the public school I'm forced to pay for at gunpoint".
Huge difference. Everyone can understand the difference.
And Rogan is thrilled with the amount of ink he'$ getting out of Young's stunt!
Reason can’t.
A proposed law in Kentucky would micromanage the teaching of history and ban teachers from discussing current events in classrooms without offering a full range of views on those events.
Again with the shit.
The public school curriculum IS POLITICAL!
And, it is not "banning" or "censorship" to control the curriculum. Huge difference between that and actual censorship and shut down of the free exchange of ideas in the media and other broadcasts.
The liberals seem completely unable to understand this difference.
If my local school district decides to teach all the kids that being gay is a sin, and the parents show up en masse protest such a move and the school district backs down, is that "censorship" lol
Fucking commies are all the same.
Given the shitty reporting in the WaPo article that was posted by ChemJeff above, I actually even doubt this is what is happening.
Sam Harris and Steven Pinker being tagged as right-wing is hilarious to me. That's basically saying rationality is for nutty right-wingers only.

You can add 'sense of urgency' and 'promptness' to the White Supremacy Characteristic list.
They are essentially there. Now having the opinion that "the grass is green" rather than "oh youre right, the grass is purple, im so sorry for my incorrect believing of my eyes" is alt-right.
Any use of reasoned thought rather than questioning the given narrative is right wing now
Sam Harris and Steven Pinker being tagged as right-wing is hilarious to me. That's basically saying rationality is for nutty right-wingers only.
You're catching on.
This subject gets into my theory I've been turning over in my head that something has happened with the left where things like "competence" are now considered right-wing traits.
Exacfly. Woke Leftism is as dangerous to Secularism and Skepticiam as the Religious Right. Can't call Racism an "Original Sin" if you also deny the OG Original Sin and vice-versa..
Oregon drug decriminalization is off to a successful start:
In the year since the state decriminalized drugs, Oregon has already been able to provide peer support, harm reduction, evidence-based treatment, housing and job assistance to more than 16,000 people.https://t.co/3sBjDZS6Y6

As with all initial reports.. the right response is (shrug) and "maybe"
And i say this as a drug legalization maximalist
Yeah, I'm not exactly sure about all the details with regard to how the decriminalization came about but I suspect the housing and job assistance was available to 16,000 people before decriminalization and the decriminalization just cut the red tape preventing them from consuming more free shit.
I'm similarly in favor of drug legalization, but I don't know that I'd call adding 16K drug addicts to the welfare dole a 'W'.

Alt-right smears were going strong at least 5 years ago.
Yeah, IMO, Rogan's parsing is less egregious than Shapiro's labeling as and alt-right/White Supremacist/Neo-Nazi. I'm not a huge fan of Shapiro but I'm not entirely clear about how calling a Jew a Neo-Nazi isn't as bad or worse than calling a black person a nigger.
According to the Dogma, there are Good Jews and Bad Jews, just like there are Good Blacks and Bad Blacks.
You're allowed to call Bad Jews Nazis, because they're race traitors (even though Jew isn't a race because they're mostly white.) Just like you can call a Bad Black a House n*gger, because they're race traitors.
I know the Woke Dogma is hard to fully understand, but just understand, you don't have to actually understand or think about any of it. The doors to Woke Ijtihad are closed, and the Twitter clerics will tell you what to do.
Trudeau says "They don’t have the right to blockade our economy, or our democracy, or our fellow citizens’ daily lives. It has to stop."
That's funny. Isn't that exactly what Trudeau had done and why the truckers, et al are protesting?
Oh yeah, that's because he's and F'n lying corrupt hypocrite.
COVID has entered the chat.
It's irrelevant whether Rogan is right wing, left wing, or neither - who GAF. He's a personality of modest talent and intellect in the entertainment business. No one is calling him out for being right wing except some jerk the author cites who no one has ever heard of before. Wat is concerning is Rogan being another broadcaster of medical misinformation which is partly responsible for the fact that we have 30% of the population still refusing to get vaccinated when they are the people driving new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths in what remains of the pandemic. No, the government should not put a leash on him and there is no movement or likelihood of that happening. Large corporations like Spotify should put a leash on their own product - they pay him, so his product is their product - or hopefully get their ass sued off.
Back in the day, Walter Cronkite would not throw out a bunch of nonsense and let us figure it out for ourselves. In the case of medical and scientific information we are not able to do this. CBS took responsibility, as the institutions like the NYTs, WSJ, WaPo, BBC and the rest of respectable news sources still do as to what they publish. When you are helping kill people someone needs to take the mike away. The failure is the corporate entities like Spotify too happy to just cash their own check.
>>broadcaster of medical misinformation
lol. Fauci?
Back in the day, Walter Cronkite would not throw out a bunch of nonsense and let us figure it out for ourselves.
"Let's just overlook his clear bias when he reported on the results of the Tet Offensive."
Cronkite was a propagandist too. For example, he censored any news about Ed Clark running for president because Cronkite believed "Libertarianism was evil." Cronkite was the master of the cocked eyebrows when reporting on something or someone, like Goldwater, that he personally disapproved of but still had to cover.
Big surprise that Conkrite was not perfect and had political opinions. What we have now that is improvement over the past is more free speech - hundreds of outlets with thousands of opinions. Good! What we have now that is worst than the past is more free speech - hundreds of outlets with thousands of opinions but a public not wise enough to discern either the truth or what sources are trustworthy. If you want someone to confirm your belief in the Illuminati conspiracy - no problem, you can get it. Hopefully this is a stage we become more sophisticated about or our democracy is probably doomed. It requires an educated and informed public.
.. but a public not wise enough to discern either the truth …
Fuck you for insulting everyone. Fuck you.
My bad Don't. I should have said "many of the public not wise enough to discern the truth, like the 30% refusing to get vaccinated based on their "research"."
Natural immunity and being in a low risk group have no merit? Concerns about the misinformation government has paraded regarding the vaccine should be ignored? Tell us about masks again. Why can’t folks that experience bad side effects from the vaccine sue? Why is big pharma being protected by government? Why was the efficacy of the vaccine regularly revised downwards? What booster are on right now?
He’s ready for his fourth booster!
All important questions Chumby - to you. Here's an answer: In all states, blue and red, new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are driven by unvaccinated idiots. The rest is you just jacking off, so get your shot and tell your buddies to get theirs. Do something to help your community, family, the economy, and the country by making it much less likely you'll be catching and spreading covid.
So no answer other than just wishful thinking projection and anger. You are a bitter old has-been/never was. Good luck with those last few years you have. Maybe you can escape the Mike Hihn curse.
My doctor agrees with me that I don’t need the vax. And he’s a real doctor that works with Covid cases even!
Now fuck off.
But is he an imaginary ICU and ER doctor?
"Cronkite was a propagandist too..."
Yeah, and as only one of three possible sources of TV "information" at the time, the government granted him a major audience.
Now, given the wide variety of sources we have, Cronkite would have been blasted as "full of shit", just as asshole Joe is.
"hopefully get their ass sued off."
As an internet company, which they are, wouldn't Section 230 stop that cold?
And can you provide the EXACT cases of medical misinformation that has been presented by Rogan. I mean, he got CNN's medical advisor to admit that CNN lied thru their teeth about the medications Rogan used.
“And can you provide the EXACT cases of medical misinformation that has been presented by Rogan.”
His silence is deafening.
Dami, Spotify pays Rogan for his podcast, so they are responsible publishers, not pass through intermediaries for content they have no part in creating. From what I've read Rogan hosts guests selling crackpot ideas on vaccines and alternative "treatments" and has expressed his support for some of these ideas. To gullible fools, like most of the people who post here, that is all they need to help feed their desire to think they are super hip in the know observers of the massive conspiracy which produced the vaccine that has saved millions of lives with very little to no danger ..... wait!
So….. no, then?
^ incomprehensible gibberish
is he auditioning to be the next Sqrlsy?
Wat is concerning is Rogan being another broadcaster of medical misinformation which is partly responsible for the fact that we have 30% of the population still refusing to get vaccinated
How do you know? How many people were going to get the jab but changed their minds because of Joe Rogan, and how do you know this?
I don't know how many idiots heard his show and then decided to skip the vaccines and take horse medicine instead so it's not possible to know how many deaths he has contributed to. If his corporate owner - Spotify - had a wit of public responsibility, they'd put a leash on him.
Wat is concerning is Rogan being another broadcaster of medical misinformation
Wat?
YouTube not only puts out, but archives medical misinformation for all to see, such as this:

What are your thoughts on this fact, Mister "Just The Facts, Ma'am?" Should we "take their mike away?"
Also, Walter Kronkite was a "World Federalist." That sounds like a bunch of Globalist Globaloney. And was CBS "responsible" for Dan Rather?
Inquiring minds want to know...while they still can.
There is no such thing in Section 230 as the distinction between a "publisher" and a "platform".
Yeah. Because until the internet and printed text were invented in 1996, nobody had words to finely distinguish a speaker from, from a speech curator, from the people blindly hosting the speech. 'Title II' is just a made up buzzword and subsection E, points 1-5 of S230 that lay out:
(1) No effect on criminal law
(2) No effect on intellectual property law
(3) State law
(4) No effect on communications privacy law
(5) No effect on sex trafficking law
Are just quizzical historical artifacts left behind from our Forefathers who's meaning is lost to history because no prior criminal, IP, State, communications, or sex trafficking law existed prior to 1996.
What would the internet be without the Communication Decency Act?
The whole thing makes no sense—except as an exercise in labeling anyone out of step with progressive orthodoxy in any way at all as a right-winger.
And there's the answer. Was there some doubt about this? The left's Political Correctness program has been working toward entirely stamping out heresy for decades.
Campaigners have beaten off the porn laws
Really? Are we missing a "to"?
Are you offering a tip?
But only just.
Tony says it is ok if you just take the tip…and half the shaft. He also says it is ok if you don’t push back.
Adam Smith would have opposed both Porn Laws and Corn Laws, so everybody could get their freak on and their eat on "as if by an invisible hand."
Only is someone would lend them an ear.
There once was a man from Nantucket…
There once was a bum from Nantucket,
Who managed to gulp a full bucket,
He had drunk too much booze,
Which made him confused,
In the sea lion’s wrong hole he did fuck it.
well done!
Joe Rogan and the Weird New Definition of 'Right-Winger'
More evidence Reason is finally catching up to 2015.
Capitol Police intelligence service conducting clandestine investigations of Congressional office, photographing documents, questioning Congressional staffers...

Libertarian coverage of the Rogan affair.
Hey, Reason, THIS is how it's done.
273 days to midterms.
Hmm. Even spiked is using the Newspeak definition of "anti-vax".
That didn't go unnoticed by me. He's not 'anti-vax' he just doesn't believe that we can vax our way out of covid.
Wasn’t Israel able to vax their way back to normality?
As soon as the fifth Omicron specific booster is available, yes.
It's like calling Nikola Tesla 'anti-electricity'.
Right, because he didn't like DC.
And not even didn't like DC, just didn't like the approach of treating every electrical problem as one in need of a DC hammer.
Nobody likes DC these days - - - - - - - -
"ban teachers from discussing current events in classrooms without offering a full range of views on those events."
So,
- if there is a terrorist bombing are students required to hear the terrorist's side of the story.
- if Russia invade Ukraine are students expected to hear the Russian's side of the story.
- with the story of the ISIS leader killed last week do students have to consider the story from the ISIS viewpoint.
I am guessing that is not what the Kentucky leaders really want.
Here's an idea. Don't try to tell the kids what they should think about current events at all. Talk about what happened, not about what pundits and activists think we should think about what happened.
And another idea. Maybe quickly get through the current events, in the most objective "just the facts" way possible...
Then get back to teaching them how to actually read, do math, and improve the nation's dismal literacy/intelligence problem. The left seems to believe the only way to teach kids to critically think nowadays is to turn everything possible thing into a "OK tell me within 6 degrees of separation how this black man was disenfranchised".
They jump right to step 5...what to think...the RIGHT way to think. Instead of any of the steps leading up to them. How to read, write, do math, critically think / problem solve, then apply these to situations in the world. Activist teachers are happy to have kids that can barely read and are doing math at 4 grade levels below where they should be, but will pledge allegiance to the pride flag, learn about black villages, and sit through basically the equity/diversity HR seminars I have to endure at work...
When I was in elementary school and we did current events, each student brought in a newspaper clipping of their own choice and said something about it. That was it. Maybe write a paragraph. No attempts at educating us on how to properly interpret the news. That seems about right.
Public schools, if they must exist, should stick to the mostly non-controversial basics. If parents want their kids to be taught other stuff, they can figure out how to make that happen on their own.
I remember watching the broadcast of the fall of the Berlin Wall in class. We weren't allowed to talk (excessively) and there was no discussion around it except the prelude that it was an important event going on in the world right now and we should get to witness it. No homework about it was assigned. We were all pretty sure the teacher was PMSing or hung over or something.
Public schools, if they must exist, should stick to the mostly non-controversial basics.
No. That is bland banal dreck. That is doing kids a DISSERVICE.
Whats more of a disservice? Having kids that can actually do math, read, and compete for important societal jobs with other nations (my ideal) or what they are doing today...playing race-resegregation, privilege ranking kids, and seeing who has more intersectional victim points while not rigorously teaching kids (or grading them) on important things like math...to the point that kids we are supposed to care about (disenfranchised people of color) are graduating with significantly worse performance in the most basic skills to function in the world. But damnit, they can identify every way the white man has kept them down and how unfair it is!! That's an important life skill after all (well, it made Henry Rogers, Nicole Hannah Jones rich, maybe they can all have racial grievance careers?)
Fortunately for now, we have some school choice. My kids are going to the really boring, banal, performance focused schools where they get rigorously taught and graded. You can encourage your lefty friends to send theirs to the public schools with race grievance indoctrination. Because in the end, my kids will be at the top of their fields and need some people to boss get their coffees, run their errands, and when they want fast food they will want hot crispy french fries. Public schools can at least turn out burger flippers still.
But dont come crying in 10 years from now when the intelligence / wealth gap between the kids in your schools and the ones in mine get waaaaay bigger. Because that is what will happen. You will cripple these poor kids intellectually and they will have no job opportunities. I hope you can sleep at night knowing what you are doing to them
Did someone say “unfair”? And “grievance”? Haha.
But yeah, good points. Someday, when the racial achievement gap begins to narrow, black people will want answers from the guilty white savior crowd about the real consequences of their shameless pandering.
I think they’re starting to see through it now. If there’s a bright side to this woke bullshit it might be the realization that the anti racists are just smug fucking assholes who love to pat themselves on the back.
From the Summary of Terrorism Threat to the U.S. Homeland, dtd 7 Feb 2022:
" (1) the proliferation of false or misleading narratives, which sow discord or undermine public trust in U.S. government institutions;"

Joe Rogan is a terrorist now.
Joe Rogan is a terrorist now.
Given that definition, Walensky and even Fauci himself are terrorists. Doesn't matter if the narrative was intentionally false or misleading, just that it was misleading and caused discord/undermined trust.
"...the proliferation of false or misleading narratives, which sow discord or undermine public trust in U.S. government institutions;"
Whoever wrote that never heard of A1.
Yet they were still being saucy.
very good Communist understands that the primaryk goal of any media outlet is to advance that ideology. Asking questions of any kind that might highlight any deficiencies in said ideology is strictly verboten. Rogan made the mistake of having guests on that disagreed with their narrative.
Exactly. One wonders how this is not the absolute first thing that pops to mind of any English-speaking audience who hears these denunciations.
No surprise, the othering continues. Soon, there's going to be a line drawn, and god help us when it's crossed.
"—except as an exercise in labeling anyone out of step with progressive orthodoxy in any way at all as a right-winger."
Sums up the entire article.
Because it's ENB anything past a third grade education is beyond her understanding
chemtard's objections to Rogan's show are mostly a performance piece for his shitlib neighbors.
