Biden Rolls Out Industrial Policy Plan To Overcome Government-Created COVID-19 Testing Shortages
One government failure cascades into another.

President Joe Biden announced his six-pronged COVID-19 Action Plan this evening. One prong of the plan aims to dramatically ramp up testing for the coronavirus throughout the country—something that should have been done a long time ago.
In that prong, Biden will invoke the Defense Production Act to spend nearly $2 billion on procuring 280 million rapid point-of-care and over-the-counter at-home COVID tests from multiple COVID-19 test manufacturers. That's just over $7 per test.
As Cato Institute senior fellow Scott Lincicome tweeted:

As I pointed out earlier today, the reason that Americans don't have access to cheap, fast COVID-19 self-tests right now is because the hypercautious regulators at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have been ridiculously slow to approve such tests. In fact, many of the self-tests widely and cheaply available now in Europe were developed here in the U.S. As the pandemic has worn on, FDA incompetence stymied the competitive processes that in private markets would have provided cheap, fast COVID-19 self-tests.
The president also appears to have cut a deal with major retailers including Walmart, Kroger, and Amazon to sell at-home, rapid COVID-19 tests at cost for the next three months. "This means that Americans will be able to buy these tests at their local retailers or online for up to 35 percent less starting by the end of this week," asserts the administration. One other tine in Biden's COVID-19 testing prong is to expand the number of retail pharmacy sites around the country where anyone can get tested for free through the Department of Health and Human Services' free testing program, in which 10,000 pharmacies currently participate.
One huge immediate problem: COVID-19 self-tests are already increasingly hard to find in stores at current prices. Lowering the prices of already scarce tests will not make more magically appear. The Biden administration's industrial policy response to government-created COVID-19 testing shortages is a prime example of how one government failure has cascaded into yet another.

This retardation is worthy of an Ayn Rand villain.

Biden is an utter complete failure as a president, vice president, senator, father, and husband. He is a seriously damaged human being who should be no where near government power.

I don't need a test... I'm vaccinated. And yes, I voluntarily got vaccinated even though I had been known to occasionally chuckle at one of Trump's mean tweets.
Reason voted for Biden which means they wanted this. Prove me wrong.
You need help sarx.
Dude. This is all a fucking catastrophe of epic proportions from a liberty perspective. Put away the bitching for like 5 minutes.
Another total waste of money.
Not exactly; he will get many donations from this one.
Not to mention under the table stock options.
One reason I didn't do any voluntary, asymptomatic testing last year (pre-vaccines) was that at the time (and still currently), my county, and therefore my company, was mandating that anyone awaiting the results of a covid-19 test should quarantine themselves until the results came back negative. Based on CDC guidance that I don't believe has been updated ever.
One guy in my company had a positive case in one of his kids - his live-at-home 20-something son - and he spent longer in quarantine waiting for the results of his test (2 weeks!) than his son did staying at home for Covid.
It's the only way your test is meaningful in any way. If I get tested on Tuesday, then mix with people, rub elbows on Wednesday and Thursday, and on Friday my test comes back negative, I may already have contracted COVID on Wednesday and Thursday. Which is why the testing was generally stupid.
"I'm negative"... sure as of 3-4 days ago. What about right now, this minute?
Every couple of days is good enough. There's an incubation period where you grow enough viral load to present enough to shed and be infectious. It takes several days.
I mean, that didn't mean shit when it took a week or two to get results back from the lab last year. But, you know, in theory.
and, to be clear, an at home that tells you right now is way the fuck better than waiting two days.
Except for the lack of accuracy.
Right now, this minute, it depends on your politics.
Nothing a democrat does can cause him to get the Communist Chinese Virus.
Anything a republican does can cause him to get the Communist Chinese Virus.
Let's have a big round of applause for your very own Federal Government! They'll be here all week! Try the veal!
Some days I feel like I ought to move to Russia to experience a more accountable government and a more free market.
"six-pronged COVID-19 Action Plan" Technocratic Elitists everywhere are creaming themselves.
