U.S. Vaccine Mandate for Incoming Immigrants Takes Effect October 1
Plus: OnlyFans reverses course on sexually explicit content, why Apple's new image scanning program is "dangerous," and more...

U.S. will require COVID-19 vaccines for immigrants and refugees. As of October 1, immigrant applicants for permanent resident status in the U.S. must be vaccinated against COVID-19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced.
"COVID-19 vaccination now meets the vaccination criteria for applicants for refugee or immigrant status," the CDC says. "All applicants who receive their medical examination from a Civil Surgeon or Panel Physician on or after October 1, 2021 will be subject to this requirement and are encouraged to complete a COVID-19 vaccine series as soon as possible."
"If the COVID-19 vaccine is a two-dose series, both doses must be documented," the agency adds.
Exceptions to this rule are included for children for whom COVID-19 vaccines are not recommended because of their age, people with health reasons for not being able to get the vaccine, and green card applicants from countries where COVID-19 vaccines are "not routinely available."
"If no COVID-19 vaccine is routinely available in the state where the Civil Surgeon practices, the 'Not routinely available' reason should be documented," the CDC website explains. "If vaccine is available to the applicant but due to limited supply, it would cause significant delay for the applicant to receive their vaccination, then this situation would also be considered 'Not routinely available.'"
Waivers will also be considered for people with religious or moral objections to receiving the vaccine. Decisions about such applicants will be made on an individual basis by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). But immigration applicants who simply refuse the vaccine without reason will be deemed inadmissible.
"In addition, all air passengers coming to the United States, including applicants for refugee or immigrant status, are required to show a negative result of viral test obtained within 3 days of departure, or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 in the past 3 months, before boarding a flight to the United States," the CDC announced.
In other immigration news, the Biden administration must reinstate former President Donald Trump's "remain in Mexico" policy:
The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to block a ruling from a federal judge in Texas requiring the Biden administration to reinstate a Trump-era immigration program that forces asylum seekers arriving at the southwestern border to await approval in Mexico.
The court's brief unsigned order said that the administration had appeared to act arbitrarily and capriciously in rescinding the program, citing a decision last year refusing to let the Trump administration rescind the Obama-era program protecting the young immigrants known as dreamers.

Computer science researchers concerned about new Apple image scanning program. Apple has scoffed at criticism of its new encrypted messages scanning policy, portraying it as something only those who don't understand it could fear. But computer science experts say there's plenty of potential for danger in the new policy.
"We wrote the only peer-reviewed publication on how to build a system like Apple's — and we concluded the technology was dangerous," write Princeton University's Jonathan Mayer (a former chief technologist at the Federal Communications Commission's Enforcement Bureau) and Anunay Kulshrestha in The Washington Post. "We're not concerned because we misunderstand how Apple's system works. The problem is, we understand exactly how it works."

U.S. will require COVID-19 vaccines for immigrants and refugees.
One way or another, a big, beautiful wall gets promised.
I'm actually shocked by this. I expect hypocrisy as such a matter of course I was certain that there was no way the Dems would accept the optics of forced vaccination lines of people fleeing Afghanistan. Unless of course, this turns out to be a pinky promise you'll do it later situation.
So the CDC and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services both report to the Biden/Harris White House.
In other words, the Democrats know that beggars can’t be choosers.
"As of October 1, immigrant applicants for permanent resident status in the U.S. must be vaccinated against COVID-19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced."
Guaranteed to speed up the influx of migrants during the next 5 weeks or so and accelerate the printing of fake vaccination records.
Will the punishment for an undocumented with a fake vaccine passport be the same for a US citizen with a fake vaccine passport?

I've noticed these 'deadlines' are always a month or two in the future, which is long enough to cancel or move them when they get to close. This way they can say there was never REALLY a mandate, only a promise of one in the future.
Immigrants must be vaccinated, but not tested.
Returning citizens must be tested, even if vaccinated.
Look: They are doing *something*. What else do you want?
In general I'd prefer it if they'd stop doing things.
The Regime dislikes its citizens and wans them replaced by a population accustomed to living in shitholes under corrupt kleptocracies.
There aren't enough people still trying to leave US cities or NY state and California for this to occur.
And they'll have to get the shots in Mexico.
Tequila with a Corona chaser.
Calderero coming your way!
Nothing like Biden/Harris allowing more than a million immigrants to cross the Mexican border without being tested for covid, secretly transporting them to undisclosed locations, and then expecting all of them to get a vaccine.
Since less than 10% of the immigrants actually show up for their subsequent immigration hearing, don't expect the million plus immigrants to be concerned about missing their vaccine deadline.

OnlyFans is dropping a ban on sexually explicit content announced last week...
Ha, their content creators are more organized.
Or someone said, "Hey, remember that thing called Tumblr."
OnlyFans is built on sexually explicit content, right? That's a lot of revenue to lose, if they dropped that content.
Interesting to compare this situation to tumblr. OnlyFans appears to be backing down because, unlike tumblr, the porn people in OnlyFans are actually making the website money. Tumblr had a huge problem that their userbase believed server space was paid for by a magic fairy and resisted any and all attempts for the website to monetize. When Apple put its thumb on the scale and told Tumblr to dump the porn, they had no monetary reason to resist because the place was already losing cash.
“Hey, remember that thing called Tumblr.”
At least tumblr was known for things outside of cartoon porn, like extremist feminism and transgender politicking.
OnlyFans is only known for its camwhores.
If they're paying the bills, who cares?
Note the thread on "Jeopardy". Supposedly intelligent people are expressing concern over its LEGACY!!!!
It's a goddam TV game show, FFS, the names of which, at best, are punchlines for stand-up comics.
OnlyFans realized that all they were doing was creating a market opportunity for someone else. A whole bunch of profitable enterprises, with verifiable revenue streams in search of a new host. The financing proposal practically writes itself.
Yep. Just like the nurses who are going to get fired for not getting jabbed. They won't be out of work long.
"U.S. will require COVID-19 vaccines for immigrants and refugees."

It’s so racist.
Can you believe the afghan refugees won't be paid for their time on the flight over here???
Well that's racist and Islamophobic.
I think OBL's first law applies here. Like cries to tax the rich, there won't be any actual enforcement as long as team D is in charge.
A massive surge of infections in ultra-vaxxed Israel is pointing to a complicated path ahead.
Lockdowns and restrictions aren't enough. Removing body autonomy isn't enough. The people refuse to be anything more than disease vectors, despite central planning's best efforts. We have to authoritarian, but harder this time.

Echospinner, collectivistjeff, Tony, white Mike, de expresso, sullum, brandybuck, etc probably think it's time for camps.
Everyone likes camping, right?
Sure, look at the long lines to get into the
concentration cagescamping grounds on the Southern Border.I like how this has not been a top story anywhere, and isn't a top story now lol. Reason cheers on the full FDA approval (6 months into an unblinded 2 year study, with no public discussion of the data, and which serves no purpose other than to pave the way for mandates) but reports on the failures in Israel as a footer.
A quick googling shows it is being reported in by the New York Times, Reuters, NPR, etc.
I’ll bet some commenter will be along in a few minutes to complain it is over-reported by the liberal media.
Shut your whore mouth Dee.
" not been a top story anywhere, and isn’t a top story now"
Dee's reading comprehension is poor. Her mendacity is legendary.
Above-the-fold headline, to be sure.
A single paragraph at the bottom of page 12 counts when Mike's got a narrative to push.
Twelve pro Biden stories and one “both aides” story is bipartisan!
The media commissars have been suppressing it for a while, but it's getting too obvious now to just ignore anymore.
Reality has a nasty way of crashing the political party.
Most Israelis have taken the Pfizer vaccine, whose recipients have the highest rate of covid infections (among vaccine recipients).
Although the covid infection rate among J&J's vaccine recipients appears to be very low, J&J now wants recipients to take a booster shot (so that J&J execs can get bonuses, and stockholders can earn higher dividends).
People have been sold on the idea that vaccines stop viral infections, rather than reducing an infection's effects and duration.
They helped stop Polio and Smallpox, but these are less virulent viruses with few animal reservoirs. Covid infects dozens.
A better comparison would be the flu for which millions are jabbed annually and have been for 100 years.
Johnson & Johnson reports promising results for booster shots of its COVID-19 vaccine.
No more one pump chump on the J&J. You're getting a double dose of those Johnsons, just like all the others.
I got the J&J specifically because getting two shots is an inconvenient pain in the ass.
I should have known they wouldn't leave me alone after.
Just wait for the continuous-infusion devices!
Automatic masking machines strapped to your head.

Hate it when my face panty get moist.
It's worse when you moisten other people's face panties.
no mask? your car won't start.
Is the J&J one an mRNA or traditional vaccine?
It's a viral vector vaccine. It uses another, common virus to deliver genetic material from COVID and stimulate an immune response.
It's a technology that's been used before with some success, as opposed to the mRNA vaccines, and it's seems to be better at stimulating a long-term T Cell response.
Ahhh. Thanks!
Neither. It's a viral vector (like the Astra Zeneca and Russian ones)
What about the Trump vaccine?
It’s the biggest! The best!
And JFree hates it!
Trust me, if the vaccination was administered in the buttock, like gamma globulin, there would be a fuck-ton more hesitancy from the mewling virtue signalers.
I thought you were supposed to take it in the arm, not the ass.
Tony disagrees.
Jab! Jab! Jab! Body blow! Breakaway move! Jab!

Such a fun game.
The only time Mike Tyson was taller than an opponent
He did usually end up taller than than them by the end of the fight...
Damn, but he was fun to watch. That march through HBO's heavyweight bracket was amazing to see.
His greatest line ever: "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face..."
So double stuck with a Johnson or you get the D. Not seeing much incentive here.
It's incredibly stupid. Everyone is going to get the D. It's a more transmissible, less deadly, variant, which should be expected.
Just based on my own reading- and I'm not a doctor- it seems to me like J&J is a better vaccine, with a better mechanism, that does a better job at stimulating long-term immune response, doesn't require fussy storage and delivery, and has more research and testing behind it than mRNA.
I wonder how much one shot of J&J costs the government, as opposed to two Pfizer shots, now plus a booster.
I got the J&J vaccine in April after I read lots of studies on the different vaccines, and after realizing FDA threw J&J's vaccine under the bus for no valid reason (by citing a study finding 1 in a million recipients got a blood clot, which was a lower blood clot rate than among those who didn't get any vaccine).
It might still have better numbers but I know a Georgia school system that gave all the teachers J&J and now have Covid rampaging through the schools. I have the AZ shot so I hope it is true that the viral vector style is better.
Thus is like VHS versus beta.
Vaccination still greatly reduces your odds of infection or serious illness if you do get infected.
Thanks for the explanation of how vaccines work, captain obvious. Since you learned this recently, maybe you can move on to critical thinking now.
I spoke directly to what the incentive is for getting vaccinated, and getting boosters.
Which isn't a big incentive if you're already in a low-risk category.
If they created a vaccination for hangnails, would we mandate that and call anyone who opts out an "anti-vaxxer"?
No, but there is no such thing as a hangnail pandemic, so it’s not a good analogy.
The analogy holds well, because what we're talking about is risk and relative danger. Since this disease has proved to be low to almost zero risk in certain populations, then someone opting to not get the vaccine is a perfectly legitimate option.
Constantly harping that we have to have 100% vaccine adoption is unscientific, anti-freedom, and completely at odds with the relative risk of this disease across the the population.
“Since this disease has proved to be low to almost zero risk in certain populations…”
Are the low-risk and high-risk people, like, living on separate islands where they never come in contact with each other?
Yes the island is called their house. If they want 100% protection they can stay inside.
The burden cant be that a society has to have 100% of people receive an experimental treatment so a certain person can enjoy 0 risk whatsoever. Of a virus with a <1% death rate
Ever heard of black-and-white thinking? 0%-and-100% thinking would be the same thinking.
The COVID-19 virus can do more things to you than kill you, and 1% is pretty bad odds when you can just get a vaccination that reduces your risk way below 1%.
Ever heard of "thinking", steaming pile of lefty shit?
Holy smokes, you really are Captain Obvious.

'I'm justifying my pedantry!'
Dee can not, in fact, move on to critical thinking.
But gay sex increases my odds of getting the AIDs.
Admittedly, cherry-picking, but the concert in Oregon that had 66 cases in 12,000 people relative to Bear Week that had 884 cases in Provincetown. I'm dubious that 160,000 people or 24,000 people a day showed up for Bear Week.
"24,000 people a day showed up for Bear Week"
That's a lot of jizz-encrusted body hair.
It was a grizzly sight.
CA governor candidate John Cox showed up in PTown with his bear. Wrong bear but his name got him a round or two at the local watering hole. Then he flew back to Cali and became a superspreader.
Jizzly bear.
Can you explain a bit how you see your comment as relevant to my comment?
Stfu Dee.
Easy, pile of lefty shit:
Not one of your comments makes sense so any response it appropriate.
"Greatly reduces your odds" is true in a relative sense, but not in an absolute one. If I have a 1:1,000,000 chance of being struck by a meteorite but staying indoors decreases the odds to 1:5,000,000, it's a 5-fold reduction but the original risk was so low that nobody would otherwise consider it to be a great increase/reduction in odds.
Moreover, and more key to the larger issue, it's not like an relatively massive increase in the odds of winning the lottery makes the lottery a good investment.
Buy two tickets! It doubles your chances!
Right?
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sophistry
Thank God. You know what sophistry is finally. Stop doing it. And tell Jeff.
Why are you talking about lotteries and lightning, instead of the odds of contracting COVID-19, the actual topic being discussed?
Why are you squawking all over this thread bird?
I know it's hard to follow, but when I quoted you saying "greatly reduces your odds" I was talking about odds and statistics and what the discussion has to do with COVID is what you brought up.
So, you start discussing the odds and statistics of completely unrelated phenomena: lotteries and lightning?
No, you started discussing odds and statistics. I pointed out that your use was between misleading and fallacious.
In Dee’s defense, she’s very dumb and understands little.
By talking about odds related to lotteries and lightning, both much more rare events than getting ill from COVID-19.
See?
Statistics don't change merely n
Because of subject dumbasd.
"See?"
Clearly.
And no one's counting the lost productivity from so many people missing a day of work to recover from their second shot, vs. very few people missing several days of work to recover from COVID.
I’d no one is counting it (which I’m not sure is so), then how do you know what the numbers on that trade off are?
Common sense?
I have the understanding that viral vector vaccines have a lower and lower effectiveness the more you use them, because you develop antibodies to the viral vector itself. People with healthy immune systems might not get much benefit at all.
This was the driving reason behind the single dose protocol.
That is a possibility in young healthy people, but I don't know that it's that big of an issue. I think it depends on the vector used. One of the bigger benefits is supposed to be that over time, immune response increases. You'll have more antibodies and greater t cell response 4 months after vaccination than you will a week after.
The biggest benefit any of these shots have is that they're good at making sure you don't die if you get COVID.
That means if you get sick you'll live long enough for your natural immune response will happen. That's way more effective at getting long term immunity than any series of poorly tested shots will be, especially since the boosters are just more of the same thing that isn't effective at stopping the spread of Delta or other variants.
In that regard, there's no need to get more than 1 shot. 1 shot is effective at making you not die which is all the shots are good for anyways, 1 or 100 additional boosters won't make them much better at that job.
The problem is that the people who got the shots were specifically told that they were "fully vaccinated." Now the idiots in government are moving the goal posts because evolution is kicking their ass, and they're still operating under the delusion that we can live in a COVID-free world.
Oh, I see your vaccine card is from 9 months ago. No soup for you!
People with healthy immune systems might not get much benefit at all.
If true, this would be an important consideration for people who had COVID and recovered before getting vaccinated. All I was told was to get vaccinated 2 weeks after recovery. With the risk of reinfection so small, getting the J&J vaccine would be counterproductive if it could reduce the effectiveness of future vaccines.
I haven't heard that gain of function research has been banned, so I figure its just a matter of time before the 'I Love Fucking Science' crowd fucks the science again.

https://www.zerohedge.com/political/state-dept-issued-warning-americans-left-afghanistan-will-be-without-assistance-then
Just when it seemed the Biden Administration’s Afghanistan debacle couldn’t get any worse, The State Department texted a “final message” for Americans stranded in the country Tuesday, alerting them that they would be “without assistance”, but then deleted the warning just minutes later.
The message read, “THIS IS THE FINAL MESSAGE FOR AMERICAN CITIZENS WHO WISH TO DEPART KABUL. American citizens who choose to remain in Afghanistan should be prepared to arrange their departure without assistance from the U.S. government.”
Someone forgot to run there announcements by the PR department first.
Jslave thinks they deserve to be left behind for dead.
The State Department texted a “final message” for Americans stranded in the country Tuesday, alerting them that they would be “without assistance”, but then deleted the warning just minutes later.
So, now those poor unfortunates don't even know they're on their own?
My first guess is that somebody told their intern to put the message out and see if anyone important complained. When someone important complained, they blamed it on the intern. That "somebody" may have been Biden himself.
Even worse, Facebook, Twitter, Tik Tok, You Tube and other left wing social media platforms will once again provide cover for Biden's outrageous actions by blocking any/all messages sent by Americans who are stranded/abandoned/hiding in Afghanistan after the end of the month.
That way, nobody will know that any Americans are still there as the Taliban search/capture/torture/murder them after Biden proclaims that all Americans (and Afghan allies) who wanted to leave Afghanistan have left.
I don't think we are that far gone yet. Mainly because I can't think of any way yet for how this can be spun as actually for the benefit of the victims. Until someone proposes a fig leaf excuse, they won't block those reports.
Sure they will. They just won't tell anyone and the American media will ignore it.
Apple will filter your Kabul Pics.
They are choosing to remain, they have not been stranded in Afghanistan. It is offensive to suggest otherwise.
They were told to leave months ago. It's their own fault.
That, this does set the ground work to claim that they got everyone out that wanted out. Just ignore how getting to the airport is a good way to get shot.
If only the military has left in May then the Afghan govt collapse wouldn't have stranded anyone!
Stupid ass.
You’re really working hard to replace shriek.
Not a cogent argument since neither the man nor the plan were in place to implement the strategy for the May withdrawal. What followed is on the big guy. Walkaway Joe is what they are calling him on the BBC now.
Sullum doesn’t care if it’s a cogent argument, he’s just getting his Orange Man Bad on.
Part of Biden’s No Nap Left Behind initiative that excludes the safety of American citizens.
"You fucked up. You trusted us."
If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.
And we used to have TV shows about fugitives and rednecks helping people by outmaneuvering the corrupt and incompetent police forces who should have handled the job. But now we have CSI-LA/NY/Chi/LV/NO/etc. and 911-LA/NY/Chi/LV/NO/etc.
Hannibal would have gotten everyone out already, and fired up a lot of ammo but no one would be killed. Their plan would probably involve knocking out BA so they could fly in, modifying BA's van in a musical montage, using explosives to flip over Taliban Humvees, without causing any injuries to the Taliban.
In all seriousness, there are several veteran groups working on getting people out, and some of the former special operators have talked about doing it on their own if the US government fails.
The now-grown baby on the cover of Nirvana's Nevermind is suing the band, alleging that the image is child pornography.
Still swimming after that dollar.
Don’t you remember everyone getting turned on by that image?
Just SPB
Lmao
And what is the point? It seems well understood culturally that the cover is not pornography. Also, if the man's parents signed off on it all are they not culpable as well?
Yeah, if you think that a picture of a naked baby in a pool is pornographic, I think you are the one with problems.
Old story:
Guy is in a psychiatrist's office for evaluation. Every inkblot the shrink shows him he describes as some form of sexual act. The shrink tells him he is obsessed with sex. The patient says "Me? You're the guy with a drawer full of dirty pictures!"
One of "compromises" to the cover suggested by Kurt Cobain was to put a sticker over the penis that said "If you're offended by this you must be a closet pedophile"
Typical Cobain rebel-posing. Why the fuck would anyone think that providing modesty to an infant would be offensive?
God, I'm glad that phony asshole drug addict had crippling stomach pain and finally killed himself.
I think his complaint is more along the lines of how the entertainment industry exploits kids by sexualizing them (and he isn't wrong there, at all), and the band and Cobain's estate has basically been making money off of his naked image for 30 years.
You think that's a selling point for the album? Seems a stretch to say they are making money off the image. And if that's the problem, why doesn't he ask for money (maybe he did)?
It may be that kids are overly sexualized by the entertainment industry. But this isn't a case of that. Nudity does not equal sex.
You think that’s a selling point for the album? Seems a stretch to say they are making money off the image.
It's one of the most iconic album covers in music history, so yeah, I think he's got a point here.
It may be that kids are overly sexualized by the entertainment industry. But this isn’t a case of that. Nudity does not equal sex.
That angle may be harder to prove, but it's not like it would be an unreachable stretch. Cobain and Geffen clearly wanted to show a naked baby's willie on the album cover because, like a lot of crustpunk dipshits, they thought it would scandalize WASP Middle America by doing so. And they weren't totally wrong, as WalMart ended up blacking it out on the sanitized versions sold in stores.
It's an iconic cover because it's an iconic album. I can't imagine it would sell any less if the baby's dingdong was photoshopped out.
The white album is an iconic cover. Not nirvana crap.
Well, sure, it's an iconic album. But the cover is part of its pop culture mystique as well.
The guy has been interviewed about it from time to time as he's gotten older, so I don't think he'd have as much of a case if he wasn't getting the attention over it.
Weird Al even parodied the cover for "Off the Deep End." Thank goodness he didn't show his own willie for that, though.
**after some research, no written release was signed by the parents. HOWEVER, they are well documented as having given verbal consent and having accepted $200. Coupled with the length of time that has passed, I would not be surprised if the circumstances satisfy the definition of parental consent for the purposes of the court.

"There was a time when [pandemic safety] rules really sucked but were easy to follow," laments Allison Benedikt at Slate. "But now, well, it's a crapshoot."
The following was posted by BigT on April.19.2020. Enjoy!
The Rules:
1. Basically, you can’t leave the house for any reason, but if you have to, then you can.
2. Masks are useless, but maybe you have to wear one, it can save you, it is useless, but maybe it is mandatory as well.
3. Stores are closed, except those that are open.
4. You should not go to hospitals unless you have to go there. Same applies to doctors, you should only go there in case of emergency, provided you are not too sick.
5. This virus is deadly but still not too scary, except that sometimes it actually leads to a global disaster.
6. Gloves won’t help, but they can still help.
7. Everyone needs to stay HOME, but it’s important to GO OUT.
8. There is no shortage of groceries in the supermarket, but there are many things missing when you go there in the evening, but not in the morning. Sometimes.
9. The virus has no effect on children except those it affects.
10. Animals are not affected, but there is still a cat that tested positive in Belgium in February when no one had been tested, plus a few tigers here and there…
11. You will have many symptoms when you are sick, but you can also get sick without symptoms, have symptoms without being sick, or be contagious without having symptoms. Oh, my..
12. In order not to get sick, you have to eat well and exercise, but eat whatever you have on hand and it’s better not to go out, well, but no…
13. It’s better to get some fresh air, but you get looked at very wrong when you get some fresh air, and most importantly, you don’t go to parks or walk. But don’t sit down, except that you can do that now if you are old, but not for too long or if you are pregnant (but not too old).
14. You can’t go to retirement homes, but you have to take care of the elderly and bring food and medication.
15. If you are sick, you can’t go out, but you can go to the pharmacy.
16. You can get restaurant food delivered to the house, which may have been prepared by people who didn’t wear masks or gloves. But you have to have your groceries decontaminated outside for 3 hours. Pizza too?
17. Every disturbing article or disturbing interview starts with ” I don’t want to trigger panic, but…”
18. You can’t see your older mother or grandmother, but you can take a taxi and meet an older taxi driver.
19. You can walk around with a friend but not with your family if they don’t live under the same roof.
20. You are safe if you maintain the appropriate social distance, but you can’t go out with friends or strangers at the safe social distance.
21. The virus remains active on different surfaces for two hours, no, four, no, six, no, we didn’t say hours, maybe days? But it takes a damp environment. Oh no, not necessarily.
22. The virus stays in the air – well no, or yes, maybe, especially in a closed room, in one hour a sick person can infect ten, so if it falls, all our children were already infected at school before it was closed. But remember, if you stay at the recommended social distance, however in certain circumstances you should maintain a greater distance, which, studies show, the virus can travel further, maybe.
23. We count the number of deaths but we don’t know how many people are infected as we have only tested so far those who were “almost dead” to find out if that’s what they will die of…
24. We have no treatment, except that there may be one that apparently is not dangerous unless you take too much (which is the case with all medications).
25. We should stay locked up until the virus disappears, but it will only disappear if we achieve collective immunity, so when it circulates… but we must no longer be locked up for that?
It’s funny you don’t hear much about the cats and zoo animals testing positive anymore.
How about Israeli cats and zoo animals?
Still working on herd immunity
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/article/wild-us-deer-found-with-coronavirus-antibodies
Yeah, a third of the deer in Wisconsin tested positive. Probably due to that one rebel judge who temporarily threw out the state's lockdown orders last year.
So now I need a vaccine passport to deer hunt also. Fuck!
Game Warden: let me see your hunting license and vaccine passport. Uhm, your license is up to date but you missed your booster so I am going to have to issue you a ticket and confiscate your gun, the deer you shot and your vehicle your transporting the deer in.
Still waiting to hear about the colony of bats that was harvested and sold in the wet markets...
I saw a local story about a zoo animal testing positive. The big cat started coughing, so they decided to test.
We all got to experience what it is like to be an abused child.

But journalists are being honest on COVID coverage, right?
https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/beijing-threatens-counterattack-if-white-house-report-covid-origins-blames-wuhan-lab
On Wednesday, with the Biden Administration report set to be released in a matter of days, a senior Chinese bureaucrat warned during a press conference that Beijing would "retaliate" if the intelligence report fingers a lab leak from the WHO.
"We will continue to cooperate with international organizations like the WHO in their research and in their search for the origins," said Fu Cong, director-general of the Foreign Ministry’s Arms Control Department. "But we do not accept baseless and unfounded accusations that are politically motivated. And if they want to baselessly accuse China, so they better be prepared to accept the counterattack from China."
"And if they want to baselessly accuse China, so they better be prepared to accept the counterattack from China.”
"And that counterattack could very well take the form of another Wuhan virus release!"
Next time they will create the vaccinate their people before the release. This was the test run.
So we can’t trust whatever the report says because pressure from China?

Nearly 200 law enforcement officers currently employed in the state were fired from previous jobs in law enforcement, resigned in lieu of termination or quit before completion of an internal investigation...
I find it extremely hard to believe that they were ever investigated or fired to begin with.
Seems high considering their hero status.
But if they quit before the internal investigation, there's no record of any confirmed wrong-doing.

A government powerful enough to compel Apple to use this for government purposes is a government powerful enough to force them to implement this in the first place. You can’t guarantee freedom by trying to deny technology to the government.
Er, you can’t by trying to deny the existence of technology to the government.
Ultimately what the government wants is remote admin access to everyone's devices.

This is the messaging coming out of coronavirus czar Prof. Salman Zarka of Israel:
“I’m not trying to have zero cases, I’m trying to have cases of a level at which the country can continue living with open markets, open schools, medical services provided as needed. I’m not looking to close the country, while, on the other hand, we need to be realistic — the pandemic is here, the virus is here, and new cases will happen.
“We need to find way to live with, and to live with is to let people celebrate Rosh Hashanah. This is what it means to live with the virus. Living with it is to let our children get back to school — that’s to live with it. To close everyone in our houses is not to live with it.”
Sounds about right to me.

"U.S. will require COVID-19 vaccines for immigrants and refugees. As of October 1, immigrant applicants for permanent resident status in the U.S. must be vaccinated against COVID-19, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced."
----ENB
I understand why the government would require immigrants and asylum seekers to be vaccinated. The legitimate purpose of government is to protect our rights, and the legitimate purpose of immigration policy is to protect our rights from threats like people with communicable diseases crossing our borders. In fact, requiring people to become immunized against certain communicable diseases is part of a rational and libertarian open borders policy--and has been for a very long time.
The best argument for open borders is that if we had an open borders treaty with Mexico, everyone who could cross the border by showing an ID would do so at a checkpoint rather than sneaking through miles of desert at night, and we could check their IDs against a database of known criminals, check that they're immunized against certain diseases, etc. In other words, our border would be far more secure than it is now if Mexican citizens could show a U.S. ID that we control and didn't need a visa.
The question I have about this vaccine policy is why it's being implemented by the CDC. Do they have the statutory authority to make changes to immigration policy under these circumstances? If they don't, then this policy is being arbitrarily implemented, like DACA or Biden's canceling of Trump's "Stay in Mexico" policy. Oh, and for those of you who don't know, the Supreme Court ruled that the Biden administration needs to reimplement the "Stay in Mexico" policy immediately--they can't even suspend it until an official ruling comes in because the Biden administration is so likely to lose.
https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-supreme-court-requires-biden-revive-trump-era-remain-mexico-immigration-2021-08-24/
Neither the president nor the bureaucrats that answer to him can arbitrarily change immigration policy. Setting the rules of naturalization is an enumerated power of Congress, and the separation of powers still matters--regardless of whether progressives, the media, and their idiot fans on the internet want it to be so. Trump implemented this policy on the basis of a security and humanitarian crisis that has not been resolved by Biden. Because Congress doesn't want to go on the record on immigration law doesn't excuse letting the CDC arbitrarily dictate immigration policy.
Make the Democrats vote, Mr. Biden. Your party controls both chambers. What are you afraid of? What are they afraid of? Are you afraid the Democrats will be held accountable for how they vote on immigration in November of 2022 no matter which way they vote? Too bad! Being the head of a one party government means you're responsible for whatever polices are enacted--and whatever policies they fail to enact.

There was a reason Joe Biden could not become President without the bizarre circumstances of the 2020 election and campaign.
Namely, running against a guy who acted like a childish asshole for four years, alienating many voters who believe in decent, civil behavior.

I guess you are referring to Joe Biden, and I’m not sure what Joe Biden has to do with me.
You love him.
Perhaps the near-constant 'but Trump' shtick you've been using in lieu of having substantial proofs or arguments each time a commenter points out a short-coming or gaping hole in one of Biden's policies? Or the same If it's a comment about the bills and policies originating in either House or Senate. You've passed simple bias into zealotry, and, unsurprisingly, you aren't sure what what not seeing the difference based on your zealotry has to do with you.
This is your perception, but not the reality. I do not run a constant “but Trump schtick” although might look that way to someone with right-wing views.
In reality, I’m a pretty mainstream libertarian who doesn’t support either of the major political parties.
When?
OK, let's take as an example the first comment I made today:
https://reason.com/2021/08/25/u-s-vaccine-mandate-for-incoming-immigrants-takes-effect-october-1/#comment-9066393
How is it about Trump or Biden, or even partisan in any sense? I was sticking to the discussing the topic being discussed.
You are a peculiar person. Sometimes you engage in civil discussion, and sometimes you throw your lot in with the Trump mean girls.
No, I respond when the same level of discourse that the poster I am responding to, uses. Ergo, maybe you may want to self reflect on why I respond to you in such a manner.
Re-read this entire thread. I said mean things about Donald Trump, not any person here. In response, Hank Ferrous personally attacked me.
He alienated so many voters, he got 10 million more votes than he did in 2016, and increased his percentages in every demographic except white males. Weird.
There is no decent, civil behavior in politics. Trump's difference was his inability to hide that fact.
OK, let’s go with your take. It’s still why he lost. If he could have reined in his boorish behavior he might well have won.
You may be right. And I wish he had done so. As much as I may disagree with many of Trump's positions, I'd much prefer him to what we've got now.
White Mike exemplifies the state of political discourse on the left. Trump is a grown ass adult. But anyone that would have preferred him to a woke drug warrior who promised mask mandates and a one party government spending like a drunken sailor must take responsibility for anything and everything that Trump ever said or did.
Hell, their standard response to any criticism of the administration is just "But, Trump!"
I have no problem with that. It’s the Trump fans / worshippers around here that I have a problem with.
Very courteous of you to confirm my previous comment.
Historically, immigrants (and visitors from abroad) were held in quarantine at the ports BEFORE they were allowed to move about freely in another country (to ensure they didn't transmit diseases to the locals).
But Biden already allowed more than a million illegal immigrants to cross the Mexican border (without quarantine, without testing for covid and without getting a vaccine) and then secretly transported them to unknown locations.
But now Biden wants all of them to get a vaccine to remain in the country, which is as likely as all of them showing up for their immigration hearing (which <10% have shown up for in recent years).
One town reports that nearly 15% of the illegal immigrants transported to the town in Texas are COVID positive. That is far higher than the percentage of Americans who are positive.
Having seen the slums in Mexico, I will assume, unless less someone wants to convince me otherwise, that those unable to pay are turned away from hospitals. Whereas, persons in custody of the US government are guaranteed treatment if things get bad. Are there any repercussions in Mexico for being deported from the US? If not, then illegal travel to the US with COVID is effectively a health care vacation.
They can call it 'coyote insurance'.
They run free clinics and emergency rooms for everybody.
They send you home with family after they treat you in the ER.
They send you home with family after they treat you in the ER.
Meanwhile the US offers free meals and free access to an ICU if needed. Health care vacation indeed.
The question I have about this vaccine policy is why it’s being implemented by the CDC. Do they have the statutory authority to make changes to immigration policy under these circumstances? If they don’t, then this policy is being arbitrarily implemented, like DACA or Biden’s canceling of Trump’s “Stay in Mexico” policy.
My interpretation is that the timing is a key clue. It isn't that the CDC is implementing it specifically but, rather, CBP does this sort of thing with all manner of infectious disease, just not ones that have no FDA-approved treatment.
I don't know about immigration policy, but CDC has traditionally (and continues to) impose its agency's policies on Americans via Congressionally enacted CDC block grants to state and local health departments (as about half of all state/local health agency funding comes from CDC).
There is a clause in the CDC block grant contracts that require recipients (i.e. state and local health agencies) to adopt and implement CDC guidances (as a condition of getting money from the feds).
That's how CDC has gained so much power over the decades, and why all state/local health agencies deceitfully portray vaping (i.e. e-cigarettes), smokeless tobacco products and cigars as just as or even more harmful than cigarette smoking (which still kills 400,000 Americans annually).
If CDC can compel all state and local health departments to downplay the enormous risks of cigarette smoking (by grossly exaggerating the risks of far less harmful tobacco/nicotine products, and by discouraging smokers to switch to the less harmful alternatives), the agency can also compel state/local health agencies to lie about covid risks, to lie about and impose lockdowns, to lie about and mandate masks, etc.
Oh, yeah, I don't think the CDC imposing vaccine mandates via the CBP, the very definition of a shadow government, is any better. Just noting that it wasn't necessarily the usurpation of power that the eviction moratorium is/was.

Owners and managers I've spoken with are far more concerned with canceled large events where the organizer is running into opposition with providing the LEGALLY REQUIRED (caps for the benefit of the asshole sarc, claiming this is not coercion) vaxx-passport.
Looks like Mayor breed has found yet another way to cripple business in SF, and, again, the last numbers on the infection rate has 11.8 people per 100,000. Yep, that's 2 100ths of one percent.
If San Francisco's Mayor and Board of Supervisors truly desired to reduce the spread of covid, they'd require vaccines for ALL of the homeless folks (as a condition of keeping their tent and belongings), as the vaccination rate among the homeless is likely below 5%.
You know who is probably eating out the most across the country? The unvaxxed. Because they have already decided it is over.
Maybe asking people to take a medical probe up the nose before they can eat has discouraged them?

> A massive surge of infections in ultra-vaxxed Israel is pointing to a complicated path ahead.
Those are infections. Not hospitalizations or deaths.
In a study of Los Angeles County released today. the unvaccinated were 4.9 times more likely get to infected. BUT ALSO the unvaccinated were 29.1 times more likely to be HOSPITALIZED!
This means that yes, the vaccinated can still get infected, BUT are massively less likely to be hospitalized for it. Vaccines work. Vaccines protect. Vaccines reduce the transmission, and reduce the seriousness of the infection, which reduces both hospitalization and death.
Case rates are not the numbers to be concerned with, hospitalization rates are. And the hospitalizations are overwhelmingly the unvaccinated.
https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7034e5.htm?s_cid=mm7034e5_w&fbclid=IwAR3DCVLIo9K7UAjhbrxUgiQPlt6Di948bOsC_3jRaC2deaEAzRs1rnT8hwU
Cases cause variants.
I don't see any actual data from Israel re the hospitalizations of the vaccinated by age, comorbidity, anything. All I've seen is the public panic of public health advice there. But public health people panic at all times. How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your broccoli

I'm still waiting for the WHO, CDC, Fauci, and media to explain to me how COVID cases have exploded worldwide since the vaccine was introduced.
"Waivers will also be considered for people with religious or moral objections to receiving the vaccine."
But this only applies to immigrants, right? Citizens have to get vaccinated, or else (no medical care, no Federal money, no flying, no restaurants, etc.), per 90% of commenters on the Washington Post.
'OnlyFans is dropping a ban on sexually explicit content announced last week,' this still isn't the entire story. The root of the story is why OnlyFans made the decision originally, and under pressure from which groups.
They were trying to go corporate. It had little to do with money and everything to do with image and prestige. Until, that is, it dawned on them that they were going to go broke in the process.
The pressure came from outside, but yes, I agree that the decision was optics-driven. Who had control of the money, the lines of credit, they needed to 'go corporate?' Who has a history of denying credit lines to adult performers? I don't draw a direct comparison between this and the allegedly shuttered Operation Choke Point for nothing. There is very little chance that this had 'little to do with money,' no corporation like this is created to not make money.
U.S. will require COVID-19 vaccines for immigrants and refugees.
It is more efficient to let the Guatamalans walk here before we conduct syphillis testing on them rather than giving it to them there.
Really smart move for the Captain of the SS OnlyFans to not torpedo his own ship.

Will Reason virtually ignore Afghanistan for another day? There is so many libertarian principles they could be talking about. For instance Greenwood has done yeoman work on grift involved in the 20 year war. Or they could talk about how the debacle demonstrates how fucked up large government programs are, how top men are incompetent. Or the could talk about how the unilateral decisions of the Biden administration has hurt our alliances with Europeans, with a English PM saying that currently the British Parliament would not vote to assist the US in military matters under Biden/Harris. Or how the US Congress was called back for an emergency session not to discuss Afghanistan (performing there oversight duties) but rather to vote on their huge budget deal, and that Biden spent all Sunday evening calling representatives, not to discuss Afghanistan, but to pressure them to vote for his budget. Or a story on how out of 60,000 the US has evacuated (the 88,000 number evacuated includes the ones evacuated by our allies) only 4,400 have been American citizens. The lists go on. Yes, for sarc and Mike, they've done a couple pass by stories but none in 48 hrs. Maybe today they'll break their silence.
I stand corrected they did run a story on opium suppression being a failure on Afghanistan Monday night. So one story in 48 hrs.

Another story idea, how bureaucracy in the State Department has stranded people eligible for SIV, P1 and P2 visas to the mercy of the Taliban.
Nope, sorry. Let’s talk about silly CDC rules about cooking foods, Georgia (the country) maybe abandoning free market, and why the IPCC is wrong.
Hopefully at least one of those will make a libertarian argument.
I read a couple weeks ago that some of the stuff the embassy burned before they shut down was - the original passports and documentation of people applying for those visas. Are there duplicates of that digitized somewhere - or are those people now shit out of luck?
Wouldn't surprise me that they did burn documents. It further raises questions about the 6000 number.
Those documents would be about Afghans not citizens. No American would ever leave an irreplaceable original at an embassy. An Afghan might well have left original documentation of their work with some US entity - with the State Dept providing the original of that linked with identity info. Burn that and its a big problem for an Afghan seeking to leave.
Granted no citizen should leave sensitive documents at the embassy, but were the records of Americans registered as being in country also part of what was destroyed?
BBC and Reuters and AFP are all covering Afghanistan better than anything from the US. for example, a press briefing by SecState Blinken an hour or so ago had the numbers of citizens - 4500 citizens evacuated and 500-1000 citizens who still want to leave are in contact.
Still nothing re the aftermath/assessment/oversight stuff but that always comes after the fact
That briefing just ended it wasn't an hour ago. And his numbers are already being questioned, especially as the state department on the 14th estimated the number as 10,000 to 15,000 but he stated the state department estimated it at 6,000 on the 14th. This is a disconnect.
Yeah - the BBC has described how that notification list works. And I know how it works from having had to deal with it. It's voluntary - both registering on arrival and taking the name off the list on departure. That list was originally 3000 contactable names in June or so. I have no doubt it was basically out of date shit. Who the fuck even knows the origin of the 10,000 to 15,000. Maybe that was a number that originated last winter as swag.
There's a lot of value that a few investigative reporters and forensic auditors/investigators could dig deep and hold the process/numbers accountable. But that's been a massive failure since forever in Afghanistan (and with US media which no longer does that)
The State Department, also this morning, in a briefing to the Senate, estimated the number of Americans as 4100 but then minutes later said oops that number was wrong. I don't believe the 1500 number or the 6000 number. That was at the lowest end of estimates given by anyone over the past two weeks.
Real-time quantitative transparency of data/process is not a gummint skill-set. Maybe that is something that could be an object of reform but not by DeRps and not by L and we don't have a Pirate Party.
I hope for everyone's sake that Blinken was right.
With American citizens I expect we will find out. Maybe they already left much earlier this year (along with many Afghans) when they saw the assassinations and such happening. Or we'll hear of people leaving after Aug - or of Americans being killed (that news WILL leak out).
For the Afghans - I feel for them. Everything the US 'did' since 2001 was an utter disaster but even if we choose to hold ourselves accountable (questionable anyway) - it won't help them. Just gotta hope the Taliban words of moderation are real.
I expect they will end up as hostages and Biden will "negotiate" with the Taliban.
Other stuff just in the last hour. Mexico (not the US) granted visas to Afghan journalist stringers for the NYT and they have arrived in Mexico.
UN has evacuated 300 TCN's to Kazakhstan but 3000 Afghans who work for the UN are still there. There has been some reports that some of those Afghans are being attacked around Kabul but it's not known by who.
Why anyone should pay any attention to US media is beyond me. They are useless.
The British media is reporting that the Taliban is not allowing travel to the airport by Afghanis and even American and European citizens.
You can check out any time you like,
But you can never leave.
Al Jazeera and Deutsche Welle have good coverage. Russia Today too though with a sprinkle of “kick Biden in his balls.”
“ Or they could talk about how the debacle demonstrates how fucked up large government programs are, how top men are incompetent.”

“The same institution that's unable to run the Postal Service or Amtrak orchestrated our invasion and withdrawal of Afghanistan.”
OnlyFans is dropping a ban on sexually explicit content announced last week:
All is well in Silicon Valley. Sex workers remonetized.
“I don’t want to frighten you,” COVID-19 czar Dr. Salman Zarka told the Israeli parliament. “But this is the data. Unfortunately, the numbers don’t lie.”
A massive surge of infections in ultra-vaxxed Israel is pointing to a complicated path ahead.
News travels slowly, but I guess it does travel.
The now-grown baby on the cover of Nirvana's Nevermind is suing the band, alleging that the image is child pornography.
I know the story behind that picture. If he were to sue anyone who could be argued as "responsible", he should be suing his father and the photographer.
Neither of them have millions of dollars though.
Exactly.
Dave Grohl has good lawyers. They can just stretch the case out Everlong.
That’s not clever at all.
The foo fighters are bland LDS rock. Only Mormons and squares like them.
Some think a settlement would be big, me included.
I was trying to get something started, but Nevermind.
Oh, fyi, if there's any indication about why Spencer Elden decided to sue the band, here's Elden in 2016:
>>I just woke up already being a part of this huge project.
you're a photo you had no say in and have sued the incorrect parties. MSJ
Man, everybody at this baseball game has probably seen my little baby penis
I definitely would have worded that differently.
"Man, everybody at this baseball game is probably a pedophile."
"and if not, hold my beer" lol
"There's a big intra-party squabble happening between moderate and progressive Democrats in Congress right now"
Oh don't worry Pelosi knows how to buy them off. Odds of this government not passing its trillion dollars of spending is low anyway. Nobody cares about deficits and debt and it won't get reported any longer. We'll just end up hitting the wall and whoever is in charge will get the blame, although the democrats will play the "Trump did it too" card again and again.
Speaking of which, blaming the screwed up Afghanistan pullout on Trump was fucking hilarious. So they knew it was a bad plan, and failed to change. Or they didn't know it was a bad plan and ignored the warning signs. Or they thought it was a good plan but fucked it up. In any way you slice it, democrats shit the bed and their deflections aren't working. Their internal polling must be terrible and it's got them pissing their diapers.
The last USA Today/Suffolk polk to come out a couple of days ago was absolutely horrendous for Sleepy Joe. And It wasn't a poll of likely voters, it was of registered voters.

Dipshit Dave Weigel and Jacob "Lord of Strazele" Sullum are definitely the hardest hit for sure.
He has asked the government to impose stricter limitations on the size of cultural and sports events until the incidence of the coronavirus declines.
Two weeks to flatten the curve!
Take the jab. No, take another jab. No, take a third jab because this time...
What’s wrong with that? If a third booster shot does the trick, then why not get it?
Prediction? Or a Freudian slip because you know deep down that they will be calling for the jab for years to come.
A third booster would be five shots total.
Just wait and get the even better one soon. iShot 12.
A massive surge of infections
Sure but what are the outcomes of these infections? Are they testing more people?
Infections go up but if adverse outcomes remain flat then what's the concern?
They are pivoting to 'cases' fear porn now for a reason...
Infections go up but if adverse outcomes remain flat then what’s the concern?
The only thing we have to be concerned with is... concern itself.
I see what you did there.
We were not concerned. They were concerned that we were not concerned. We are concerned that they were concerned that we were not concerned. They are concerned that we are concerned that they were concerned that we were not concerned.
The perv worshipper thinks it’s clever.
The vaccine requirement will be waived if the applicant registers as a Democrat voter.
Masks are waived for Dem fundraiser events and birthday celebrations.
