Drug War, Pandemic Likely Reasons for Spike in U.S. Overdose Deaths
Plus: Missouri and New Hampshire extend school choice, Facebook seeks recusal of FTC chair Lina Khan, and more...

Drug overdose deaths were up significantly in 2020, according to preliminary data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). More than 92,000 people in the U.S. died of drug overdoses last year ("the largest single-year increase recorded," according to The New York Times).
The data suggest that some of the increase in overdoses was tied to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns. The biggest month-to-month increases occurring in March, April, and June 2020, when coronavirus fear and uncertainty were at their highest and authorities across the U.S. instituted the strictest shutdown orders.
That the highest overdose numbers corresponded to periods when people were most socially isolated, stressed, out of work, cut off from services, and economically precarious is unsurprising. But last year's increase in drug overdose deaths can't be entirely attributed to the pandemic and government responses to it.
"Public health experts said there had been a pre-pandemic pattern of escalating deaths, as fentanyls became more entrenched in the nation's drug supply, replacing heroin in many cities and finding their way into other drugs like meth," the Times points out. "After decades of increases, overdose deaths dipped slightly in 2018. But they resumed their upward course in 2019, and drug deaths were rising in the early months of 2020, even before Covid arrived."
Which is to say: We can also blame the war on drugs, which helped incentivize the flooding of U.S. drug markets with cheaper and deadlier substances like fentanyl and makes safer drug use more difficult.
Things like easy ways to test drugs, supervised consumption sites, widely available overdose remedies, and an end to prohibition and black markets more generally could go a long way in reducing the rising tide of U.S. overdose deaths. But while some cities have made strides at the margins, most politicians have remained resistant to even moderate solutions that could help people know what they're taking and cut drug deaths.

Missouri and New Hampshire move to extend school choice. Here's the American Federation for Children on what Missouri's change means:
Creates a $25 million Education Savings Account program that provides eligible students $6,350 for educational expenses to attend the public, charter, virtual, private or home school of their choice
Eligible students include any student who attended public school in the previous year or is entering school for the first time
Students with an IEP or a family income below Free and Reduced Price Lunch would be given first preference; children in a family making less than 200% of Free and Reduced Price Lunch would be given second preference and all other eligible students would come after them
The $25 million program is funded by a 100% tax credit
And here's Reason editorial intern Ella Lubell reporting on New Hampshire's new measure:
The Granite State just got a bit more free for religious parents. New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu signed a bill into law last week that will expand a state school choice program to include religious schools.
New Hampshire—like Vermont and Maine—allows school districts without the funds to run their own schools to pay for students to attend other public or private schools in the area. But until last week, school districts could not pay for students to attend "sectarian" religious schools.
This new measure amends the state's tuitioning program by striking out the requirement that participating schools be nonsectarian.

Facebook seeks recusal of FTC chair. Following Amazon's lead, Facebook is seeking the recusal of Federal Trade Commission (FTC) chair Lina Khan from decision making about whether to refile an antitrust complaint against Amazon. Earlier this month, a federal court dismissed an FTC complaint against Facebook—saying the agency had failed to prove Facebook has a monopoly in social networking services—but left room for the FTC to refile a new complaint.
"For the entirety of her professional career, Chair Khan has consistently and very publicly concluded that Facebook is guilty of violating the antitrust laws," Facebook said in a formal recusal petition filed Wednesday. "When a new commissioner has already drawn factual and legal conclusions and deemed the target a lawbreaker, due process requires that individual to recuse herself."

The data suggest that some of the increase in overdoses was tied to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns.
That was the tradeoff we were all forced to agree to.
"Which is to say: We can also blame the war on drugs"
We can blame the war on drugs for a lot of things, but the 2020 spike was pure lockdown.
According to idiots like ENB the lockdowns were the first encounter people has with any of the issues generated by COVID. No months of pandemic porn by the media telling us millions would die domestically and the hospitals were already overflowing with bodies.
Wait, I thought the idiots were grateful for the lockdowns, since they needed to be saved from the panic porn.
ENB's video about anti-trust is pretty good.
Never blame the results of the lockdowns on the pandemic.
Wait, I thought we should always blame the results of the lockdowns on the pandemic.
Eligible students include any student who attended public school in the previous year or is entering school for the first time
You suckers who already had school choice out of your own wallet can fuck all the way off.
Good and hard.
Clearly they can already afford to pay twice.
"Democrats are cramming approximately all of their preferred policy overhauls and initiatives into a new budget proposal."
Good!
#LibertariansForBiden
Where's Buttplug to explain how this is Trump's fault?
I'm surprised it's only 3.5 trillion. But I guess they already have 12 trillion planned.
Ultimate goal: federal budget >= GDP
They wanted 6 trillion initially.
The squad (and their honorary member from Vermont) still do.
Considering we’re only 6 months into this regime, they’ll probably get it.
New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu signed a bill into law last week that will expand a state school choice program to include religious schools.
Teachers unions will no doubt recognize they vastly overplayed their pandemic hand.
Allah Akhbar! Let's go!
Tough choice: have the mullahs teach my kids to submit to Islam and worship Allah, or have the comrades teach my kids to submit to CRT and worship the Party.
I'd prefer a mullah to the prog to be quite honest. Less doctrinal and has basic morals they generally adhere to.
Say what you will about the tenets of national socialism, at least it's an ethos.
Islam isn’t as dumb as Marxism.
Islam: No interest, meaning no banking or capitalism. No legal booze, which creates a black market. Women are treated like property. They recognize monarchies.
Marxism: Not quite sure other than Reagan said it was really bad.
"Marxism: Not quite sure other than Reagan said it was really bad."
REALLY stupid.
“Not quite sure”?
I’ve heard bad things.
The bill only effects students who don't have a public school they can be forced into locally. The change isn't as great as the time Reason has given to it. It is a very small change.
Are you suggesting that Reason isn’t giving the whole story?!? Balderdash!
I think that was pretty clear in the piece from yesterday. Not such a big thing, but at least more or less the right direction.
It is in both stories. But isnt worth 2 stories.
Clearly I didn’t rtfa.
For the entirety of her professional career, Chair Khan has consistently and very publicly concluded that Facebook is guilty of violating the antitrust laws," Facebook said in a formal recusal petition filed Wednesday.
Facebook has found a democrat they don't support.
Maybe FB can employ some asymmetrical and very juvenile tactics: hire Shatner or a look-alike to follow her around and scream "Khaaaaaaaaaaaaan!" everywhere she goes until recusal. Make her feel the wrath.
Or meme her into submission on FB.
She's not a Democrat in her capacity as FTC chair. She's a straight up Marxist. There's no amount of consumer value that a "monopoly" provides that would dissuade her from attacking large businesses.
But riddle me this, if Amazon is a monopoly, how is my wife able to find a new place to shop online seemingly every day?
Wow, what kind of allowance do you give your wife?
"She’s not a Democrat in her capacity as FTC chair. She’s a straight up Marxist."
Like there's a difference anymore.
Be fair. Marxists are far from woke enough about gender and race.
Particularly Groucho!
Amazon is the engine behind most of those boutiques wives over to find online. They just have a different facade, but it is all Amazon in the background.
Yes my wife is the same. I've pointed this put to her by showing her the Chinese companies on Amazon selling the same damn dress for 30% less. She refuses to believe though.
Yeah, it is hard to avoid Amazon in many cases. I have noticed a few businesses lately that appear to have stopped using Amazon, though.
Walmart is a good alternative. Not quite as many products, but similar delivery options. And usually a bit less expensive.
I usually search on Amazon for the best product and then check if Walmart has it, and if it's cheaper. At least half the time it is.
I don't like Walmart. Pay less for junk that doesn't last. You get what you pay for.
Walmart did go bankrupt this year, right?
Facebook and Amazon got exactly what they wanted. Fvck 'em both, and Reason, too.
...Facebook is seeking the recusal of Federal Trade Commission (FTC) chair Lina Khan from decision making about whether to refile an antitrust complaint against Amazon.
Stellar choice on chair, Biden handlers.
Democrats are cramming approximately all of their preferred policy overhauls and initiatives into a new budget proposal.
I'm sure it will be a good read... after the vote.
That's "vote".
Democrats are cramming approximately all of their preferred policy overhauls and initiatives into a new budget proposal.
Manchin and Sinema will hopefully remain a problem here.
Lol
CNN has an headline that Manchin is "very, very disturbed". Made me happy to read it but CNN being CNN, I didn't click into the article.
Article summary: Progs proposed 600 billion in Green New Deal spending, West Virginia hardest hit.
Leaked Manchin internal discussions all say he is on board. He just has to be appear publicly to be against due to the voter make up of WV.
If a nut bag leftist takes a shot at them, will the media pay a price?
Ben Dreyfuss delves into "how the media makes nice people believe insane things."
Oof.
Does that include stories about fire extinguishers?
Those aren’t nice people.
The article makes no mention of squawking birds.
Ben Dreyfuss is the editorial director at Mother Jones. He's a crazy lefty. If you read the article, you can tell where he gets it. His mom's a crazy lefty too.
He tries to make a few good points, but they are inherently flawed because they are based on a number of assertions about republicans and right wingers that, as far as I can tell, he's only heard rumor of on MSNBC and CNN.
He is a crazy lefty, but I do give him props for engaging with Kmele Foster on the 5th Column. He isn't one of those that if he disagrees with you, resorts to calling you a racist. That is at least a start.
Indeed, he's been on the 5th a few times.
I vomit each time. And Kmele et al don't take him to task very well. They are pretty squishy...maybe that's why fools like Dreyfuss will come on.
I like how they let their guest talk more and rely on their audience to come to their own conclusions. That said they do get a little star crush with him talking about his dad.
Dreyfuss's commenters think he's the crazy one because Trump's SA is just about to go full Kristallnacht. He's in denial just like the Weimar Jews.
Consider me amazed that Reason cites a far leftie on a cultural issue. So unlike them
You get a good idea how far the Overton Window has shifted when the editor of Mother Jones is considered a sane, reasonable, middle-of-the-roader.
^This. His commentary is actually pretty sane. The whole point of the piece is to describe how the media has mind-warped people into believing all this insane shit.
The comments on his piece are half composed of crazy CNNBC fanatics who think trump supporters are brownshirts. Proving his point.
White Mike and sarcasmic were never nice.
Just as many of us predicted during the past 16 months, the increase in overdose deaths was due to the carefully coordinated totalitarian lockdowns (that destroyed tens of thousands of small businesses and millions of jobs) and fearmongering lies about Covid by left wing Democrat Governors whose sole goal was to defeat Trump.
Notice how all the left wing media outlets are falsely blaming the pandemic for all of the disastrous policies imposed by left wing Democrats.
And notice how all the party true believers lap up and then regurgitate the latest propaganda.
Sheep bleating?? Tell me it ain't so!
And notice how the health costs of the lockdowns are never factored in when talking about all the lives they supposedly saved.
That would have been an excellent way to oppose the lockdowns as a policy re the disease.
Of course, lying about the disease itself and then lying about everything else doesn't create much of a well of credibility for the lie-teller.
Rather, into the vacuum steps someone else who just doesn't give a shit about the costs of lockdown.
Stuff your PANIC flag up your ass, stick first, you cowardly piece of lefty shit.
“…… lying about…….. doesn’t create much of a well of credibility….. “
Dems gonna dem.
Cathy Reisenwitz explores how the nonprofit group Exodus Cry reinvented the "white slavery" panic for the modern age.
I'm going to go broke paying out all these reparations.
That's why I am getting trans-racial surgery. Suckers!
I think just wearing a bra and some corn-rows now establishes legal status.
I am going Martian; they have not no one documented case of ever oppressing anyone here on Earth.
Others will be green with envy.
I’m more native than Pocahontas, so all these progressives can get off my land and pay me reparations while ignoring my income.
If the 4th generation descendants of slaves are asking for reparations, why don't the descendants of Union soldiers ask for reparations? Particularly those who died. Getting killed is slightly worse than being enslaved.
"Colleges around the country, and especially graduate schools, are destroying the lives of young people.
From the article - Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported graduates of Columbia’s film program had the highest median debt, at $181,000 dollars, compared with earnings, at less than $30,000 dollars, of any master’s program in the country.
I know how that goes. I went to grad school for engineering, and I can barely make ends meet. Something must be done.
*checks yearly salary*
Forget what I just wrote.
Amazing that someone goes to Columbia film school so they can be an usher at a movie theatre.
IIRC, it was Dennis Leary that said "If you want to learn how to make movies, take the money you would have spent on film school and make a movie".
It's that sort of thinking that gave us the likes of Robert Rodriguez, quintin terntino, Kevin Smith... So yep that sounds about right
Knew a dude who had the exact same desire (wanted to go to a no-name school in TX for film) and got pissy when I said "buy a camera and shoot one yourself".
He also went to jail on kiddy porn charges, so there's that.
And with CRT and other progressive propaganda coming to K-12, they can destroy the lives of very young people.
Apparently, a lot has to do with having to self finance their own student filmsc5o graduate, and 5he completion to make something flashy is fierce.
Anti-racist discourse and politics in this country are not ultimately about people of color at all, but function primarily as a site of competition between different classes of white people...
As long as people of color have some utility for the pajama class, I guess.
"Anti-racist discourse and politics in this country are not ultimately about people of color at all, but function primarily as a site of competition between different classes of white people…"
Ya the majority pushing for it are white-liberal bigots who think POC's need to be infantilized, and use any pushback as a cudgel to beat anyone who dares question their child level reasoning and racism. Capital B- Black activists have jumped on board but they are very much the minority of who is pushing it. It's mostly a power grab by white wokesters.
Just Democrats returning to their roots, as the party of superior white people who know what's best for struggling black people.
The old European racist belief of the white man's burden is still strong in liberals.
Perhaps we can send them to the Belgian Congo.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is already playing politics with a new state law against protesters blocking highways.
It's always about roads with you people.
Putin personally authorised a secret spy agency operation to support a “mentally unstable” Donald Trump in the 2016 US presidential election during a closed session of Russia’s national security council, according to what are assessed to be leaked Kremlin documents.
The key meeting took place on 22 January 2016, the papers suggest, with the Russian president, his spy chiefs and senior ministers all present.
They agreed a Trump White House would help secure Moscow’s strategic objectives, among them “social turmoil” in the US and a weakening of the American president’s negotiating position.
Russia’s three spy agencies were ordered to find practical ways to support Trump, in a decree appearing to bear Putin’s signature.
By this point Trump was the frontrunner in the Republican party’s nomination race. A report prepared by Putin’s expert department recommended Moscow use “all possible force” to ensure a Trump victory.
Western intelligence agencies are understood to have been aware of the documents for some months and to have carefully examined them. The papers, seen by the Guardian, seem to represent a serious and highly unusual leak from within the Kremlin.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jul/15/kremlin-papers-appear-to-show-putins-plot-to-put-trump-in-white-house
Um, isn't this old news? MSNBC established long ago that Drumpf has been a Russian intelligence asset since 1987. And Mueller confirmed it.

Sure buddy!
I just found it odd that you posted something I've been saying for years like it was breaking news.
Did they ever find a copy of the PEE TAPE? Now that would be an exciting new development!
LOL
Lol, poor Sullum.
This IS breaking news, because it's new evidence. I know you guys don't care about that kind of stuff, but most reasonable people do.
It osnt new evidence. It is rehashed Steele Dossier. See below.

Libertarians have more in common with Marxism than with modern conservatism. It’s sad that it’s come to that, but here we are.
Like most sane and healthy people, I’m obsessed with the red menace.
And mere weeks into Orange Hitler's Presidency, Rachel Maddow figured out that Russians were controlling our government.
Probably why Trump did little when Russia (re)took Crimea. Oh wait, he was in the private sector then.
YES! Just like when the Russians controlled the Original Hitler.
Why are they pretending we need evidence when, for so long, we’ve had “evidence”?
Ahhh I get it Noone is reading sullum articles so now your posting in the comments
Fuck of Sullum.
So when Cummins donates to the DNC... Biden becomes a candidate? When Obama sends his campaign team to over throw the Israeli PM, that is collusion? When the Guardian newspaper endorses Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden that is foreign collusion? When Hillary hires a British firm to pay Russian agents for lies, is that foreign collusion?
I mean honestly. 50 million and 3 years and you still hold on to this bullshit? Youre better than this Sullum.
Not sure why China got changed to Cummins.
I usually agree with you, but this time you are flat out wrong. There is no evidence that sullum is better than this
I laughed.
Wow, lots of GNATs biting at your ankles after posting that story.
Did you read the article white Mike? Or did you stop at the first mention of fire extinguishers.
It is the same shit as the Steele Dossier.
God damn.
It's not Laursen, it's actually White Mike Wallace, and these are his Memogate papers.
All I see is seas of grey.
Here's your attention, sarcasmic. Feel better now?
I’m looking forward to his next post about sandwiches.
And he cried about being muted by Ken below lol.
The 1980s called and they want their foreign policy back.
All I see is a fuckton of hidden comments 🙂

🙂
????lol
So you've muted the entire board but somehow you're not the problem? If that's the case then it's obvious that the issue lies with you.
All I see is a comment from a lefty pile of shit who muted everyone who calls him on his bullshit.
From your article...
The paper refers to “certain events” that happened during Trump’s trips to Moscow. Security council members are invited to find details in appendix five, at paragraph five, the document states. It is unclear what the appendix contains.
So... the same bullshit that was in the Steele Dossier.
God damn sullum, you sure do fall for shit without care.
There is also apparent confirmation that the Kremlin possesses kompromat, or potentially compromising material, on the future president, collected – the document says – from Trump’s earlier “non-official visits to Russian Federation territory”.
In fact it is exactly the Steele Dossier.
Believe Russians this time right?
Johns Hopkins Professor:
Thomas Rid
@RidT
This Guardian story is likely to make big waves. I would remain somewhat cautious for now, however. For a "leak" of this magnitude, we need at least some details on the chain of custody. Also note the Guardian's own hedging ("papers appear to show")
This paragraph makes me particularly skeptical.
1—"are understood to have been" sounds like UK intelligence might not be the source;
2—"seem to represent" makes me wonder how much the Guardian even knows about the source;
3—"leak from within the Kremlin" means risk of forgery.
Other reasons to be very cautious:
—timing: seems too early for such of top-level meeting
—participants: very sensitive meeting not locked down
—UK gov: no quote, not even anonymous
—Guardian doesn't even mention risk of op or forgery
—and: that strange reference to "kompromat"
in other words, their source is Twitter
About the author.
Glenn Greenwald
@ggreenwald
The part of the media that feigns anger at misinformation is uncritically promoting a story today by Luke Harding that Russia was blackmailing Trump -- the same Harding who has published many false stories, championed the Steele Dossier and claimed Trump was long a Russian agent.
It was Harding who published was one of the most sensationalized stories of the Trump era: that Manafort repeatedly met Assange in the Ecuadorian Embassy. It was utterly fabricated. Everyone knows it's bullshit, never happened. Yet the Guardian has never corrected or retracted it
Now suddenly, Harding claims he obtained leaked, highly sensitive Kremlin documents that just so happen to prove all the lies he's been peddling for years, that not even Mueller's huge team found. Because it advances liberals' interests, journalists are uncritically spreading it.
These people dont want actual journalism, sources, or objective reporting. They want an opinion piece that confirms their worldview, and are happy to consider that as "real journalism" while discounting anything or anyone that disagrees as "misinformation"
This is also why they have to try and make Greenwald (and other like him) disappear. He has the audacity to read, investigate a claim, consider the context, the author, their motives. Its very off-putting to someone who wants to dunk on the other side after reading blatant propaganda and taking it as fact.
All "news" is like that now. It's nothing more than selling advertising.
Just consider it payback for what happened 20 years earlier.
The papers, seen by the Guardian, seem to represent a serious and highly unusual leak from within the Kremlin."
Sounds totally legit, and from the Graunaid no less. This will probably be as big a scoop as the Killian documents.
Greenwald tore into this story. Which means it is valid enough to fill the preconceptions of the resident leftists here. Lol.
Wait, so the Russia fever dreamers were right all along? Lol.
Nope. If you didnt choose ignorance you would see the other posts. The article is a known Russian truther who has pushed openly debunked theories.

The Guardian is SURE hedging their bets pretty heavily with that laughable piece.
My, BlueAnon in full effect. Didn't that writer of that piece you're citing have several pieces come up utterly false about Trump?
Why, yes, he did.
Maine abolishes civil asset forfeiture.
I'm moving my whole drug operation to Maine (if that "state" even really exists). It won't be long before the cop uniforms there will be a barrel on suspenders.

Quote from the former governor:
"The traffickers—these aren't people who take drugs. These are guys by the name D-Money, Smoothie, Shifty. These type of guys that come from Connecticut and New York. They come up here, they sell their heroin, then they go back home. Incidentally, half the time they impregnate a young, white girl before they leave. Which is the real sad thing, because then we have another issue that we have to deal with down the road."
So which one are you? D-Money? Smoothie Fist? Shift of Etiquette?

Murderers and rapists, right?
Some, I’m sure, are good people.
At the time of the comment it was about half, based on the Bangor Daily News’ arrest section. Around that same time there were drug dealers shooting at each other in the Augusta Walmart parking lot. Two CCW permitees intervened. The folks arrested mostly hailed from New York.
"Two CCW permitees intervened."
Nifty. Get up there and you see so many people carrying openly that who knows how many are hiding. Have to be a seriously numb numbskull to initiate violence in that environment.
I rarely see open carry. But a lot of us conceal carry.

I don't carry concealed. My marksmanship is unreliable. Some days I can't miss, while others I've got a perfect group that's four inches low and left. I really need to work that out.
I've tried dry firing with a laser pointer, putting a penny on the front sight, and all kinds of stuff. But when I get in front of a target, set up the sights, slowly squeeze, am surprised when it goes off, it still lands low and left and outside my sight picture. Frustrating, especially with ammo priced the way it is.
This must have been embarrassing in front of all your friends at the half million dollar lakefront rental house vacation.
I see a grey turd from R Mac. Is it a helpful suggestion? No. Must be a petty insult. He's never offered anything other than snide slights, why should he change now?
I took a peek at it so you don’t have to. It was snide, pointless, and added no value to the commentariat. So, same ol’ same ol’ “Caw! Caw!” guy shit.

Try a different handgun. Or caliber. Head to a range that has rentals. If you are using a double stack mag try a single stack like a Glock 43x or Sig P365.
It's not the gun. It's me. Some days I can't miss and others I can't hit a thing unless I aim four inches up and right. Doesn't matter if it's single or double stack, single or double action, revolver, whatever.
Stop pulling to the left. And work on not missing your target when shooting. 😉
If you're right-handed, pulling low & left usually means you're squeezing your whole hand and not moving your trigger finger independently. If I remember correctly.

"Facebook seeks recusal of FTC chair. Following Amazon's lead, Facebook is seeking the recusal of Federal Trade Commission (FTC) chair Lina Khan from decision making about whether to refile an antitrust complaint against Amazon.
For background, Lina Khan was the primary author of the House Democrats' report, released in October of 2020, that promised to break up Facebook because of its tolerance for "misinformation" on their platform. Now that Biden has made her chair at the FTC, she has the power to issue subpoenas and establish findings of fact without seeking the permission of a judge. Companies have a right to be tried by an FTC that hasn't already pronounced them guilty (and passed sentence) like an accused criminal has a right to be tried by a judge who hasn't already pronounced him guilty and is prejudiced against him.
It's the same thing with the Amazon case. Lina Khan has repeatedly and publicly argued for breaking up Amazon and Facebook on the basis of antitrust--and she has published theories about how current antitrust law should be used in novel ways to rationalize those breakups. If she isn't prejudiced against the defendants in the cases of Amazon and Facebook, then prejudging a case means nothing. Amazon and Facebook are absolutely right to insist that Lina Khan recuse herself, but the FTC is a largely unaccountable bureaucracy, so guess who gets to decide whether Lina Khan will be recused? That decision will be made by Lina Khan and the FTC.
I Am Altering the Deal, Pray I Don’t Alter It Any Further
Since when have partisans and ideological fundamentalists believed in impartial due process?
See the case from 1966 below.
They won't rule that she must recuse herself, but they will vacate any judgments by the FTC against these companies if she doesn't recuse herself.
What's the point of going through the exercise if there's a good chance that whatever finding the FTC comes to will be vacated at a later date?
Biden appears to have fucked up by appointing her to the FTC.
Is this similar to trying to impeach an elected official who is no longer in office?
"Biden appears to have fucked"
You think he can still get it up?
Senile dysfunction
There is precedent for Amazon and Facebook to appeal the FTC's decision to break them up. In 1966, for instance, a federal appeals court vacated a judgement by the FTC after the fact on the basis that the FTC commissioner prepared a case against the subject of an FTC judgement when he was a member of the congressional staff --which is exactly the case with Lina Khan. Read about the case yourself.
All five petitioners filed motions on December 13, 1961, to disqualify Chairman Paul Rand Dixon from participating in the proceeding. These motions were . . . based upon the contention that Chairman Dixon, in his former capacity as Chief Counsel and Staff Director of the Subcommittee on Antitrust and Monopoly of the Committee on the Judiciary of the United States Senate, played an "active role" in an investigation by that Subcommittee of many of the same facts and issues and of the same parties as are involved in this proceeding, and participated in the preparation of the report of the Subcommittee on the same facts, issues and parties. These motions to disqualify Chairman Dixon were made or renewed on three separate occasions prior to the Commission's final decision. The motions were denied."
----American Cyanamid Company v. F.T.C
https://casetext.com/case/american-cyanamid-company-v-ftc
What was the court's conclusion?
"It is fundamental that both unfairness and the appearance of unfairness should be avoided. Wherever there may be reasonable suspicion of unfairness, it is best to disqualify . . . . We therefore must vacate the order and decision of the Federal Trade Commission and remand the case for a de novo consideration of the record without the participation of Chairman Dixon.

If we're trying to read the tea leaves here, there are two interesting things to notice:
1) Amazon and Facebook do not appear to be taking a conciliatory strategy with the FTC--at least not since Biden appointed Lina Khan to the FTC and made her the chair. I believe Facebook was amenable to speech codes and crushing the "misinformation" Khan objected to in the report she wrote for the House Democrats--so long as the breakup of Facebook was a threat rather than a reality. Now that it's serious, the Democrats and social justice warriors may not have the friend in Facebook they used to have anymore. Facebook is apparently not conciliatory and not cooperating.
2) If Lina Khan and the other Democrats at the FTC elect NOT to recuse Lina Khan, this would strongly suggest that their cases against Amazon and Facebook are being made for signaling and political purposes--rather than because they actually want to break these companies up. Precedent has it that any breakup of Amazon or Facebook perpetrated by the FTC will be vacated if Lina Khan participates, so if they decide to proceed with Lina Khan anyway in pursuit of a breakup, they're either profoundly stupid or not really serious about the breakup. Again, they can probably get a consent decree on speech codes without any opposition from Facebook whatsoever.
Their pushback doesn’t back up your narrative that they have been “censoring” misinformation solely because of threats from the Democrats.
Hmm, maybe they are liberal-leaning companies and were already amenable to cracking down on what they consider misinformation.
So you ignore the leaked arrangements of these companies with DNC politicians giving them direct access to censoring posts?
Sounds like you.
He's probably got you on mute too. After all, pointing out logic in what someone says is equivalent to an ad hominem where you ignore what they said and focus on the person.
Lol.
He can't stop crying about being muted now. This is his complete self unawareness. Lol.
Should I bother to read about some black-and-white Ken White tl;dr; spiel about how libertarians should vote Republican because authoritarians aren't as bad a totalitarians?
Nope.
Not gonna read.
I pointed out that not every slight is an ad hominem. In fact that has a very specific definition. Showed him up. He go so embarrassed that he muted me.
Lol. King of mute lists is crying about being muted. Fucking hilarious. You know you're muted bit you responded to him. You said that was trolling. Hmmm
Lots of trolls don't seem to realize they're trolls, but when people don't care if they're wrong or right and mostly just engage in ad hominem attack after ad hominem attack, there's no point in engaging with them. Trolls are trolls whether they realize it or not.
I just like pointing out his hypocrisy and self unawareness.
It is rare he makes a post of substance but he acts as if it is all he does.
It is grating. So I point it out to him.
He's a VICTIM of people who don't like him!
He's muted me, so this won't take, but if one of two people don't like you, it might well be them. When the world doesn't like you, it's YOU!
Ad hominem is when your buddy JesseAz says my comments should be ignored because he says I'm friends with jeff. That's textbook ad hominem. The person is wrong because of them, not what they actually said.
When I point out the logic in your rants, that's not an ad hominem.
You say Republicans are "mere authoritarians," you say Democrats are totalitarians, you say anyone who supports Democrats support totalitarianism, and then when I point out that by the same logic support for Republicans is support for authoritarianism, you scream AD HOMINEM!!!1!!!11waaahhhhh!!11!
So, for all ye yet to be muted by Mister Wall Of Text, don't dare point out how he's wrong. That's a personal attack. He'll whine and cry to his mom, JesseAz, and whoever else will listen.
Pobrecito.
You are friends with jeff. You, white Mike, and marxisg praising chipper seem to have chosen your sides and will stick to it no matter how fucking terrible Biden is. You won't ever admit your bullshit principles were all lies.
You have no principles. You have no sound logic. You do have unfounded tears though. And an estranged family.
Your comments should be ignored because you're a cheap troll, sarcasmic. You called soldiermedic76 and Ken of all people "trolls" while you were harassing them.
Also, it's amazing how you can brag about muting everyone and then bitch about being muted in the very same thread. Your self-awareness must be miniscule.
And here's something to ponder, if your "mute list" is bigger than five people, then you might be the issue.
Instead of reading ken, you should teach your daughter to respect other peoples property. You won't because like all progtard you believe you deserve to have everything handed to you.
Seek help.
No you should complain like a trolling bitch and then cry about how others are trolls and all you do is post relevant discussion points.
This one wasn’t so much one of his Republicans good / Democrats bad comments, and it is one of his type 500 words to restate obvious stuff we already know comments.
Know like you knew about fire extinguishers?
Poor sumbitch didn't get to read anything about orange man bad.
When we were building guns I mentioned something about Ken and when people said "what?" someone else said "wall of text guy" and everyone said "oh."
When I post here and mention whiny TDS-addled pieces of shit, most everyone says 'sarcasmic?'
For someone who cries about others always talking about you instead of tbe topic at hand, you sure do talk about other posters instead of the topic at hand.
"When I was building guns with all my friends"
Lol. Right.
"someone else said “wall of text guy” and everyone said “oh.
Give me shit that didn't happen for a thousand, Alex.
Unlike you and White Mike, Ken makes well thought out, high-quality posts.
Which is why they infuriate fifty-centing liars like White Mike Laursen. He's too low-info and uneducated to properly refute them.
I have to hand it to Ken that he at least uses paragraph breaks. There was a wall o’ text commenter the other day who posted something like a 1000 words with no paragraphs.
He's got good grammah, givim that.
Two TDS-addled assholes whining about someone who doesn't buy their bullshit!
"Areas of Earth that contributed less to climate change will suffer the most"

Oh, the unfairness of it all! We must DO SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually, no; check the map in the link.
According to this peer-reviewed, sciency, can't-miss--this-time paper, the areas hardest hit are the areas where no one lives.
But those uninhabited areas could be some oppressed indigenous tribe's imaginary homeland or ancestral spirit source or some other BS. Don't want to make their gods angry, do we?
Yeah, and some species we never knew existed is gonna die and we can't live without them!
no, warmer weather is beneficial for life
36 batches of ballots, in favor of joe biden, were double counted in Fulton County GA based on looking at scanned images of the ballots. This is on top of the admitted 5000 voters who voted twice and possible 30k voters who illegally voted in the wrong county.
https://townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepavlich/2021/07/15/tucker-carlson-theres-evidence-ballots-were-double-counted-in-georgia-n2592569
But we should never do audits. Ever.
Image evidence shows distinct ballots submitted twice. Video of the counting shows a Fulton employee scanning the same stack of ballots multiple times. Another picture shows mail on ballots sana creases. Fulton County ballot tally sheets do not match the count images of the scanned ballots. For example a batch of 500 biden votes and 200 trump votes gets marked as 700 biden votes and zero trump votes. This is shown through comparing the tally sheets to the batch images provided to VoteGa.
This is just from the publicly released information handed over and not from an actual forensic audit.
Still think WHITE SUPREMACY and SYSTEMIC RACISM are overstated? Brace yourself for this outrage.
The most striking aspect of Italy’s 26-man squad before it took to the pitch was that, alone among the main contenders, it did not include a single player considered as being of colour
No BLACK OR BROWN BODIES on the entire team?! I'm literally shaking right now.
#LibertariansForRacialPreferences
#DiversityAboveAll
If anyone from south ittally was on the team that counts as African. As a northern Ittallian friend of mine says "Africa starts in Rome"
Don’t even get me started on Sicily.
Yeah, but how many missed penalty kicks, and what colour were they?
Those racists aim to only kick the black spots of a soccer ball
Even worse, no Womyn (TM) on the pitch! Perhaps Italy could recruit some of the players from the non-male US team, as soon as they get over their most recent loss to some middle school boys team.
#KeepingScoreIsSexist
The excess death count last year was just over 300k from the last tally the CDC seemingly produced.
More than 92,000 people in the U.S. died of drug overdoses last year ("the largest single-year increase recorded," according to The New York Times).
Now include the increased estimate of deaths from those who could not see specialists and their primary doctors.
Do you still think Covid killed 500k? Or were they just marked as died with covid?
Old/local/fake news.
The faking of data didn't happen o wait it happened but its not a big deal, we'll it's a big deal but it's actually good
Although Biden delivered the vaccine and shut down the virus in the US like he promised, other countries aren't so lucky.
Indonesia has reported more than 54,000 new coronavirus cases for the first time, surpassing recent daily infections in India, and becoming Asia’s new virus hotspot. Officials fear that the more highly transmissible delta variant is now spreading.
A new virus hotspot? We Koch / Reason libertarians know how to handle that — we must invite the entire population of Indonesia to immigrate to the US.

I'm throwing in the towel on my hopes for Democrat opposition to Biden's and the Democrats' $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill. And it's a shame, too.
"Another central concern for Mr. Manchin is covering the full cost of the $3.5 trillion bill. Democrats on the Budget Committee said Tuesday night the package would be fully paid for with tax increases and other sources of revenue.
“Look, I’m open to it,” Mr. Tester said Wednesday, noting that he thought it was appropriate for the federal government to invest in housing, child care and workforce training. “I just need to know what’s in it, how it’s paid for.”
https://www.wsj.com/articles/centrist-democrats-take-wait-and-see-stance-on-3-5-trillion-budget-plan-11626286269
The "centrist" Democrats just want to make sure this spending is covered by raising taxes, and so long as taxes are raised high enough to pay for it, they're on board.
In some ways, this bill is even worse than just the Green New Deal funding would be by itself. The social spending they're including in the bill will create new entitlements that didn't exist before, and once entitlements exist, getting rid of them isn't easy.
They're including entitlements for paid family medical leave, and they're including money for free community college.
They want to lower the age of eligibility for Medicare, which is a signpost on the road to Medicare for All (when the age of eligibility is zero).
The only thing that might stop it now is a big grass roots movement like the Tea Party or a huge demonstration against it in Washington DC. We can take some consolation in the realization that all the Republicans in Congress will probably vote against it, and the Democrats will almost certainly lose both the House and the Senate if and when they pass this bill. Unfortunately, repealing this kind of thing once it's in place is extremely unlikely--like cutting Medicaid or ending Social Security.
And the sad fact is that the only choice is between leaving the Democrats in power in 2022 and 2024 to make things worse or the Republicans taking their place. I'll be voting for the Republicans. This bill wouldn't be possible at all if Trump were still president or if the Republicans had won the Georgia runoffs and maintained control of the senate. Trump losing the 2020 election is the worst thing to happen to capitalism in this country since FDR.
Here’s an idea: what about the Republicans put up some candidates who are mature, competent, civil people. Lay off their trend toward blowhards, opportunists, Trump toadies.
Mean tweets triggered him.
Here's another idea: TDS-addled piece of shit like you need to fuck off and die.
Why do you defend leftists voting for immature candidates? You seem to rush to the DNCs defense and only criticize the right. It is a weird thing for a neutral person to do.
Dee’s not a Democrat, she just blames Republicans for Democrats policies.
And what's the point of pretending to be neutral--if one side is clearly better than the other?
"Trump losing the 2020 election is the worst thing to happen to capitalism in this country since FDR."
----Ken Shultz
Yes, I have a qualitative preference for freedom. I prefer making choices for myself even if I sometimes make terrible mistakes.
Why should anyone pretend to be neutral on these issues? If the fact is that the Democrats winning is a terrible tragedy from a libertarian capitalist perspective, then that's the way it is.
I defy anyone to give us a legit libertarian reason to prefer Joe Biden, the Democrats, or the one party control of government we have now.
I agree. But they take the anxious arguments and evidence of the right being fat less harmful to liberty and associate that with Trump cultism. The only reason to do this is if you feel the left is better, which they say they don't. But as they say. Actions speak louder.
I think they try to pretend they're "neutral" because they think that makes them persuasive to libertarians or something--if people don't know that they're progressives.
Makes total sense if we lived in a binary world where you support Trump or are a progressive.
And right here exposes Sarcasmics entire rational. It is wither for or against trump. He doesn't see comparative analysis of their policies. Everything condenses into trump or not trump. It is why he has said one negative comment about Biden the last 7 months despite a glut of anti libertarian positions.
Sarcasmic is nothing but projection.
Which we don’t.
Shhhhh! Don't screw up the narrative with facts!
Lol, Mike's paid to be here. You're sucking up to a guy who's here to gaslight us, because you burned all your bridges with everyone else by being an asshole and a troll.
You might want to reflect on how your own partisanship has led you to be allied with jerks like JesseAz. It’s a strong sign all your self-touted logic has gone off the rails at some point.
He's muted you. You're a troll. Because pointing out the flaws in someone's logic is a personal attack that ignores what they said. By focusing on what someone says you're making an ad hominem attack on them as a person. Yeah, doesn't make sense.
Sarcasmic is simultaneously bragging about muting and whining about being muted in this thread.
See kids, this is what happens when you abuse alcohol.
"You might want to reflect on how your own partisanship has led you to be allied with jerks like JesseAz. It’s a strong sign all your self-touted logic has gone off the rails at some point."
You might want to reflect on how you became such an ignoramus. Did the TDS cause it, or did you contract TDS because you were an ignoramus, asshole?
Because Trump tried to overthrow an election just because he lost. He tried to subvert the Constitution to do so, by pressuring his Vice President to toss out electoral votes for certain states, even though the Vice President is not authorized.
Engaging in banana republic shenanigans is crossing a line that disqualifies him from consideration as a future President of our country.
"Because Trump tried to overthrow an election just because he lost...:
With some toilet tissue and ny-ties, right?
You stupid pile of shit; in order to be accused of a thing, there has to be some possibility of accomplishing that thing.
He might just as well been training pigs to fly in order to have them shit on Pelosi's head.
"Because Trump tried to overthrow an election"
Oh? And how did he do that?
Are you talking about fire extinguisher battalions fantasy, or challenging irregularities in the courts?
Here's an idea: Don't obsess over supposed cliques on an internet chat board like a 13-year-old girl, you whiny little bitch.
Great point. Who wants "candidates who are mature, competent, civil people" anyway? That's certainly no any clique you belong to. Only a 13-year-old girl would point that out.
Poor sumbitch and his adolescent focus on personality. Perhaps one day this piece of shit will grow up, but I have a feeling he's 45-going-on-13.
Oh look, a turd from the opposite of "mature, competent and civil." Shal I read? Nah.
But you’ll still talk about it.
Oh, look! Another whine from a TDS-addled lefty asshole.
The two are not mutually exclusive.
That's a reach, but if that's your refuge then have fun.
Coming from someone who also loves to indulge in clique obsession like a middle-school girl, I'll take that as a compliment.
When grown men act like cliquey girls, I'm the bad guy for pointing it out. Gotcha.
A grown-ass man shouldn't be obsessing over supposed cliques on an Internet board like a 13-year-old girl. It doesn't make you a bad guy, just emotionally stunted.
People try to shut down my comments with schoolyard taunts, and I'm emotionally stunted for pointing it out?
Laughing at your hypocrisy, dishonesty, idiocy and your near fatal case of TDS is not "shutting you down", you whiny piece of shit.
You're a victim of your own making; fuck off and die.
The self unawareness of sarcasmic is mesmerizing. He literally does what he bitches about in this thread. The same shit he has done for years.
I don't blame KAR for my choice to engage with him when he says he wants to stab me in the temple, or when he fantasizes about little boys having their dicks cut off. I go back and forth with him because I feel like it.
You're not a victim, so stop acting like it. This isn't reddit.
You’re not a victim, so stop acting like it. This isn’t reddit.
You didn't have someone jack your handle and get people to literally hate you and want to see you dead. Granted I do that anyway, doesn't take much with politics being what they are, but I was indeed a victim. Boo hoo, woe is me.
"...You didn’t have someone jack your handle and get people to literally hate you and want to see you dead..."
Waaa, waaaa, waaa! Man, that's really some corked whine, there.
What in hell would this pathetic piece of shit do it he couldn't cry about being victimized by the whole world?
You didn’t have someone jack your handle and get people to literally hate you and want to see you dead.
And I've had someone literally tell me he was going to stab me if he met me, as long as I gave him my "real address." You see me whining about it? I've not only given him an address to show up to, I've told him to unmask his email from his screenname so I can save him the trouble of traveling to make good on that desire. After all these months, he begs off that he's "too busy" when the prospect of actually following through comes up.
This shit is too dumb to take seriously, and you don't exactly help matters with your desperate need to be liked on an Internet board and letting people goad you.
"You didn’t have someone jack your handle and get people to literally hate you and want to see you dead."
I knew sarcasmic was the genius behind "KillAllRednecks" and his anti-Mormon death threats.
“You didn’t have someone jack your handle”
I did. And it was Mike Liarson that did it. To teach me a moral lesson.
"And I’ve had someone literally tell me he was going to stab me if he met me, as long as I gave him my “real address.”"
There's a difference between someone saying that in response to something you actually said or did, and in response to someone impersonating.
And you really think I haven't gotten death threats? I don't see them now because I've muted many of them, but before this button a week wasn't complete without someone saying they wanted to kill me for being a pedophile or some similar nonsense. That doesn't bother me. What bothers me is people pretending to be me, and inciting violence against me.
There’s a difference between someone saying that in response to something you actually said or did, and in response to someone impersonating.
KAR's been doing it due to his BPD, not in response to anything I or anyone else here has said or done. I don't take that shit or anything any of the other glow-posters say here seriously. It's just blowing off steam.
And you really think I haven’t gotten death threats?
Did I say that? Anywhere? You have this really notable habit of putting words in people's mouths if it feeds your sense of victimization. And then you wonder why you get slagged on.
Mmmm, sure.
Careful Red, you’re gonna get put on the mute list.
"...There’s a difference between someone saying that in response to something you actually said or did, and in response to someone impersonating..."
The world is just SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO unfair! Won't someone agree with my constant victimhood and whining? PLEASE?
Mmmm, sure.
Yeah, that's about what I expected.
How about you GFY.
Biden has already been more divisive, less civil, and less honest or competent than Trump ever was.
Biden is the worst thing since the Civil War!
He promises to acknowledge how bad Biden is any day now. It has only been 7 months.
This 3.5 trillion is spent already. I'm not sure how much of the previous 12 trillion is on the books, I lost track.
But it ends in 2022. Higher taxes are never popular with voters. Inflation is never popular with voters. Dems are trying to spend it all now, because it's their only shot.

Many Americans embrace falsehoods about critical race theory
Propaganda on full display. This is why you have to familiarize yourself with the material, not only what it is, but what is being taught (how a shitty academic methodology is being distorted even further). Some examples from today's propaganda:
"Thirty-three percent believe it “says that white people are inherently bad or evil” or that “discriminating against white people is the only way to achieve equality.” It does not."
- while the CRT texts dont come out and say "down with whitey", the end result of implementing CRT in classrooms (and Kendi's antiracism agenda) have absolutely been discriminating against whites, and calling them inherent oppressors / white supremacists / racists. There are numerous end examples of CRT inspired curriculums doing exactly this. Kendi actually openly calls for discrimination, as an aside (its in his book).
"The poll showed that a bipartisan majority of Americans say that high school students should learn about slavery and racism in America. Yet respondents were more opposed to teaching critical race theory, which maintains that the legacy of slavery and Jim Crow racial segregation laws continues to create an uneven playing field for nonwhite Americans."
- CRT =/= teaching about Jim Crow and slavery, even if its teachings agree that those things were bad. People against CRT also believe that about Jim Crow and slavery, while at the same time not wanting divisive marxist race baiting drivel in their classrooms.
"But Paula Ioanide, a professor of race and ethnicity studies at Ithaca College in New York, said the public is being fed bad information about the CRT theory from conservative activists"
- color me fucking surprised that a professor of race and ethnicity in NY is pro CRT and wants criticism dismissed as "conservative activism" so they dont have to debate its merits.
– while the CRT texts dont come out and say “down with whitey”, the end result of implementing CRT in classrooms (and Kendi’s antiracism agenda) have absolutely been discriminating against whites, and calling them inherent oppressors / white supremacists / racists. There are numerous end examples of CRT inspired curriculums doing exactly this. Kendi actually openly calls for discrimination, as an aside (its in his book).
But from their point of view, they do not use the word 'racist' to mean 'a bigot that hates people based on race'.
Here is what DiAngelo says about it:
"...Racism - like sexism and other forms of oppression - occurs when a racial group's prejudice is backed by legal authority and institutional control. This authority and control transforms individual prejudices into a far-reaching system that no longer depends on the good intentions of individual actors; it becomes the default of the society and is reproduced automatically. Racism is a system." -- White Fragility, p. 31
So the idea, is that one racial group - Whites - created a system in which their prejudices became the normative standard. That system is enforced by formal means (laws) and by informal means (social pressure). That is what they are referring to as racism. So a racist in this view is a person who accepts this system as normative, even if that person is not a bigot and does not hate anyone based on race.
So I do not doubt at all that Kendi's book declares that most white people are racists. But it is based on this definition of racism, not that he actually believes that most white people are bigots who hate other races.
Personally I don't think it is helpful to call this concept 'racism', it is more 'majoritarianism' and 'forced conformity'. The idea that the dominant group creates systems in which its own beliefs and ideas become the normative standard that everyone else is expected to adhere to. Would you be as upset if these authors were describing conformity in these terms, instead of with loaded terms like 'racism'?
I don't at all agree with government-backed racial discrimination, of course.
So I do not doubt at all that Kendi’s book declares that most white people are racists. But it is based on this definition of racism, not that he actually believes that most white people are bigots who hate other races.
Kendi specifically said that racism is both terminal and curable.
"to love capitalism, is to end up loving racism, to love racism is to end up loving capitalism".
"Capitalism and racism are conjoined twins".
Ibram X Kendi.
Oh, he charges $20,000 for a speaking fee.
"Capitalism is essentially racist... racism is essentially capitalist."
Ibram X Kendi.
"I don't know how someone can be truly anti-racist, and support capitalism" -- Ibram X Kendi.
Kendi: Any disparity between races can only have one (1) cause: Racism.
Because SCIENCEISMTISMISMTISM.
And here is an example. You and others will refer to single parenthood as a primary reason for disparate racial outcomes. Well, even if true, why should single parenthood be considered such a socially pathological idea such that those who participate in it are doomed to terrible outcomes? Our society and our laws very much revolve around the traditional idea of a nuclear family. There's tax credits for marriage, issues of property transfer are greatly simplified among married individuals, having two working parents in good-paying careers is the ticket to middle-class success, etc., etc. The nuclear family is the normative standard. Why should it be? Why should those who choose another path be penalized so severely for it? I do not believe that the choice to make the nuclear family the normative standard is race-based per se, but it is a built-in assumption in pretty much all of Western civilization.
In an earlier discussion you compared the choice to be a single parent to that of an alcoholic, in terms of the negative outcomes on the resulting family. But an alcoholic is that way due to a measurable disease, and alcohol has known biological effects on the body that has a great role in producing the social effects that we see. Being a single parent is not a disease, and the consequences of that choice is not the result of any biological effect on the body, but is purely constructed socially.
"In an earlier discussion you compared the choice to be a single parent to that of an alcoholic, in terms of the negative outcomes on the resulting family."
I purposely threw it out as an unrelated hypothetical to prove a point about personal responsibility. It wasn't used as a comparison in the way you took it.
The point still stands. We know that 2 parents is better than 1. It has been this way throughout humanity. We need to stop saying "how can we reshape the natural formula that we know works to make this group who is doing it the hard way more comfortable".
If one tribe decided the best way to get their food home was to trudge through a nasty swamp or over a mountain, and the rest of society found a pleasant flat field to bring their gatherings back, the answer isnt "how can the rest of society make it easier for them to get over that mountain" its, hey why dont you show that tribe that happy pleasant path that seems to be letting the rest of the world thrive.
We know that 2 parents is better than 1. It has been this way throughout humanity.
It actually hasn't, it has only been that way in Western societies. There are plenty of human societies out there that are communal in nature, that don't rely on the nuclear family as the foundational building block of society.
We need to stop saying “how can we reshape the natural formula that we know works to make this group who is doing it the hard way more comfortable”.
You keep referring to this 'natural formula' as if it were equivalent to some law of physics. That the normative standard of a nuclear family is as self-evidently true as, say, Newton's Law of Gravity. It isn't. It is purely socially constructed.
Why should one way be the 'easy way' and another way be the 'hard way', in terms of social outcomes?
Humanity has evolved. We dont live in a cluster of huts, we dont live in villages. Even if tiny cubicle apartments seem that way, it doesnt change the fact that the people that brought you into this world have the highest stake in your livelihood. Sure there might be a nice lady next door, or a grandparent nearby, but its not a substitute for a parent. When the rubber meets the road the parent is the one that is usually there, taking care of you, ensuring you thrive.
And lets please stop talking about this as if "its just some different way they are trying it, why cant they both work?" That cool, unique, new way they are trying it is absolutely due to lack of taking personal responsibility. Its not something they are trying out to "find a better way". Its because, statistically, the father is more likely knocking others up, in jail for some crime that is unjust (weed) or just (violent crime), or is just flat out absent. And the govt is willing to put up just enough money per kid that the moms dont go "man this sure sucks seeing my kid starve to death, I should stop having kids that I cant take care of".
This is not OK, this is not a behavior that the rest of society should be trying to promote or adapt to. It is not a virtue. We shouldn't be making it easier for people to shoot themselves in the foot when we know it is crippling their kids futures.
I think I agree with most of your post.
I think.
Need to define humanity, evolved, and society.
I'd argue that as human animals we're two steps out the cave. We're fearful, violent, cruel animals, with the addition of lots of shiny toys.
If all libraries, books and such were destroyed, if we lost all accumulated knowledge, we'd be throwing spears.
Personally, I would say that it could probably be proven objectively that extended family (parents, plus grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, etc.) is best for kids; typical American 4.2 kids nuclear family is good, but not as good as extended; single parent is worse; orphanage worse; orphaned street urchin last.
And water is wet. What's your point?
If advocates of CRT are arguing that being a single parent is unjustly marginalized by white culture, and opponents of CRT are sticking up for the traditional American nuclear family, neither one of those two family types is even the ideal family type.
They're all full of shit and fighting over who gets to forcefully impose their fucked up and wrong view upon others?
Next you're going to tell me elections matter.
That cool, unique, new way they are trying it is absolutely due to lack of taking personal responsibility.
It is a lack of "personal responsibility" to fail to live up to the standards that the dominant society has imposed upon them.
Think of it this way. Suppose we had a society in which everyone was expected to wear at hat in public and at social events. Everyone - men, women, children. It was just the expected thing to do. Then Bob comes along and he doesn't want to wear a hat, for whatever reason. Unfortunately Bob has a hard time finding gainful employment or getting a date, because no one wants to hire or date a guy like Bob who so flagrantly flouts his 'personal responsibility' to wear a hat. Why can't he just wear a hat like he's expected to do? What is so hard about that?
Society knows that the bald spot is a solar panel for a sex machine. So when Bob goes around without a hat he turns into Bob on those commercials. Who wants to associate with that guy?
[insert closing anchor tag after "Bob"]
"Think of it this way. Suppose we had a society in which everyone was expected to wear at hat in public and at social events. Everyone – men, women, children. It was just the expected thing to do. Then Bob comes along and he doesn’t want to wear a hat, for whatever reason. Unfortunately Bob has a hard time finding gainful employment or getting a date, because no one wants to hire or date a guy like Bob who so flagrantly flouts his ‘personal responsibility’ to wear a hat."
Ya that argument is fine for things that are blatantly arbitrary. I would fit this in with middle eastern women wearing burkas. It is almost completely a cultural norm based on doing the "right thing" that the others in that culture have declared must be done. But what is the objective moral good to it? Especially if the woman doesnt want to wear it? Furthermore, what is the practical good? In this scenario, this is very similar to Bob's hat.
Now you brought a child into the world. And you can ensure that child does significantly better by doing a few things. Dont knock anyone else up. Dont do anything that lands you in jail. Be present and help the child thrive. If you do those things, the child has X% increased chance at making it to the upper middle class, being financially sound, with lower rates of mental health issues and likely a higher intellect. X is a significant number.
Now you, having brought the child into this world, know that by doing those things, you can substantially improve your offsprings quality of life. There is a clear moral good in this that is obvious. There is a clear practical benefit to child and parent in this, after all, many cultures are reliant on their children/grandchildren in their elder years. There is an evolutionary benefit in ensuring your DNA/progeny thrives.
Your hat analogy assumes the thing is an arbitrary, unimportant thing. It turns out, its quite the opposite as it is one of the most significant things a person can do, and for the more unimpressive humans, its the ONLY significant thing (relative to humanity) thing they will do.
Well, this goes just a wee bit too far.

So this woman was fired for correctly advising doctors about how to handle minors wanting vaccination without parental consent, according to Tennessee law, and some jerk decided to retaliate against her in a humiliating manner.
CNN!
YOU'RE QUOTING CNN!
THAT MAKES YOU AN ANTI-AMERICAN COMMUNIST WHO HATES TRUMP AND VOTE FOR BIDEN!
CNN!
IGNORE WHATEVER WAS SAID BECAUSE CNN!
AAAUUUGGHHH!
MAGA 2024!!!!
Hey Sevo, Nards, Ken, et al, did I get that right?
Nope you're just batshit insane, screetch.
I suppose you're right. Trying to imitate you is indeed insane.
What you do isn't imitation. It is hyperbolic strawman, also known as trolling.
B-b-b-b-but poor little sarcasmic is always the victim. He can't be a troll.
Qh!!!!!!!!!
Whiny TDS-addled asshole drags out strawman!
I KNOW I got that right.
BTW, CNN is worthless.
This is the non trolling stuff sarcasmic says he doesn't do all the time lol.
Seriously dude, you have issues that should be addressed with a psychiatrist.
CNN had that lovely story about a fire extinguisher.
The story would be far more believable if she presented the package the muzzle came in.
I mean, I can link you to the database of hoax crimes if you are so gullible.
Muzzles are the dog whistles of nooses.
But, it was on CNN!
Kinda seems on the nose. Like a little too on the nose?
I mean I dont want to lump this in with the noose at the Nascar drivers bay, or the convenient MAGA-hat wearing "Trumpers" who were roaming the streets of Chicago that were super aware of the show Empire...but its almost too convenient. Like the kind of thing someone would fabricate to perfectly fit their situation. But hey, now she is on TV, a fired martyr for the vaccine cause, a hero who was just trying to do the work.
Until amazon verifies it was actually sent to her and she didn't drop it in a spare prime box she had sitting in her closet, I am going to say...suspicious.
Ill give her the benefit of the doubt and say that is a shitty thing to do to a person. But my bullshit detector is flashing an orange-red.
Considering the spate of hate hoaxes that have taken place over the last decade or so since the philosophies of cultural Marxism went increasingly mainstream after Occupy, and the recent example of grifters like Rebekah Jones, I'd take anything these people say with a grain of salt.
It's not like Amazon can't dox the sender based on the account that it was ordered from.
"Ill give her the benefit of the doubt..."
You entire comment was not giving her the benefit of the doubt.
I don't get it. Is the muzzle supposed to be somehow threatening?

Are there any Democrats in the American government that are openly against communism?
John F Kennedy.
Drug War, Pandemic Likely Reasons for Spike in U.S. Overdose Deaths
Turning several major US cities into open-air "safe" injection sites probably hasn't helped much either.
Nice to see Nardz got his Two Minutes of Twitter Hate on. The world is now safe.
Sarc only talks about topics, not people.
Yep, the topic being how he is constantly being victimized!
Lol
LOL
Are you being a "mean girl", sarcasmic?
Democratic city council and mayor in Tucson say it's clear:
Ok then. Noted.
Except of course, where the states can.
here everything u wanna know about
At the risk of sounding cold hearted, the increase in overdose deaths is because more stupid people continue to abuse dangerous drugs; legal and illegal. We need to stop making excuses for people’s bad behavior. If I get drunk, fall down some stairs and break my leg, the fault is mine - not the distiller, not the liquor store that sold it, not the guy who built the stairs, and not the baseball team whose loss drove me to drink in the first place. It’s called personal responsibility. All the libertarians out there who want to legalize drugs (and I agree with their arguments), you must also be prepared to let the cards fall where they may and let people who chose to consume these drugs overdose. If the government shouldn’t control drugs, it should not have to clean up after those who abuse them, either. How is this different from, “You can’t tell me what to eat but you have tp pay for my gastric bypass when I become morbidly obese.”Stupid is as stupid does.
