For the First Time, a Majority of Republicans Support Same-Sex Marriage

For the first time, a majority of Republicans support marriage equality for gay and lesbian couples, according to a new poll from the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI). The PRRI poll—conducted throughout 2020—finds U.S. support for same-sex marriage now stands at 67 percent, up from 61 percent in 2017 and 36 percent in 2007. Much of the recent rise can be attributed to growing support by conservatives and independents.
In 2020, 51 percent of the Republicans polled by PRRI said they support granting legal marriage rights to same-sex couples. This is up from 47 percent in 2019 and 31 percent in 2011.
Support has also increased among people identifying as politically independent: 72 percent in 2020, up several percentage points from 2019 and up from 47 percent in 2011.
At 76 percent, support for same-sex marriage among Democrats is about where it was in 2018 (following a slight dip in 2019) and up from 58 percent in 2011.

The latest poll results are based on telephone interviews with more than 10,000 Americans conducted throughout 2020; the margin of error is plus or minus 1.1 percentage point.
These days, "majorities of most religious groups support same-sex marriage," notes PRRI. Support was highest (76 percent) among Americans who described themselves as religious and non-Christian, followed by white Catholics (75 percent), white mainline Protestants (72 percent), and Hispanic Catholics (71 percent).
"Majorities of Black Protestants (57%), other Protestants of color (56%), and Hispanic Protestants (51%) support same-sex marriage," notes PRRI. Support was lowest among white evangelical Protestants: 43 percent.

A federal appeals court is considering the constitutionality of surveillance cameras installed outside people's homes. From Courthouse News:
Can police install a secret video camera outside someone's home and record everything that happens there for eight months? The First Circuit seemed dubious during oral argument Tuesday, but the judges also struggled to figure out where to draw the line as to when police need a warrant for their high-tech surveillance.
"Wouldn't many of us feel insecure if we suddenly found out a camera was recording everything that happened in the curtilage of our house?" asked U.S. Circuit Judge William Kayatta.
"That would make me feel insecure," the Obama appointee said. "Why wouldn't most people feel that way?"
U.S. Circuit Judge O. Rogeriee Thompson, a fellow Obama appointee, complained that the government was arguing that its right to spy on people "should be limitless."
"Are we just going to put these cameras in front of everybody's house and monitor them and see if anybody's up to anything?" she asked.
But in a contentious argument that was scheduled for 40 minutes and lasted two hours, U.S. Circuit Judge Sandra Lynch insisted over and over again that the fact that a police officer could walk by a house and see what was happening outside meant that the government had a right to use a hidden camera to see what was happening outside all day long for months on end.

Utah governor vetoes unconstitutional rules for social media but signs porn filter bill. On Tuesday, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox, a Republican, said no to a bill that would have fined social media companies for making content moderation decisions that state regulators didn't like. The bill—passed by the state legislature in early March—would likely not have stood up to scrutiny in the courts.
But Cox went ahead and signed another piece of unconstitutional legislation, this one requiring all phones sold in Utah to come with porn-blocking filters pre-installed. "Cox has said the measure would send an 'important message' about preventing children from accessing explicit online content," the Associated Press reports:
The measure won't go into effect unless five other states enact similar laws, a provision that was added to address concerns that it would be difficult to implement.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Utah said the constitutionality of the bill was not adequately considered and that it will likely be argued in court.
"This is another example of the Legislature dodging the constitutional impacts of the legislation they pass," ACLU attorney Jason Groth said.

For the first time, a majority of Republicans support marriage equality for gay and lesbian couples...
Look what Trump waving that rainbow flag has done to the GOP.
"If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them."
Not just the Jews, good Rabbi, every religion has highly problematic texts that are homophobic and should be banned.
Abu Dawud 38:444
"If a man who is not married is seized committing sodomy, he will be stoned to death."
Longchenpa, Great Chariot:
"The ten kinds of wholesome actions lead to the higher realms.
Their wholesome intention avoids the ten unwholesome ones.
Cutting off life is avoided, and taking what is not given.
Wrongful sex (is avoided, and also lies and slander.
Speech is not harsh or frivolous. Thoughts are not covetous.
We keep far away from malice and wrong views.
Sexual transgressors are born in crowded places,
Miry swamps that are full of urine and excrement,
Nasty places of stinking filth and sticky defilement.
They are cramped and depressed in places without joy."
Śūraṅgama Sūtra:
in order to clear the path to enlightenment, one has to remove sexual desires. Those desires include both sexual desires to other men and sexual desires to women. They also include sexual desires to other beings, to objects.
Romans 1:
"For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged natural relations for that which is contrary to nature, and likewise the men, too, abandoned natural relations with women and burned in their desire toward one another, males with males committing shameful acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error."
Srimad Bhagavatam:
"Text 23: Lord Brahmā then gave birth to the (masculine) demons from his buttocks, and they were very fond of sex. Because they were too lustful, they approached him for copulation.
Text 24: The worshipful Brahmā first laughed at their stupidity, but finding the shameless asuras close upon him, he grew indignant and ran in great haste out of fear.
Text 25: He approached the Personality of Godhead, who bestows all boons and who dispels the agony of His devotees and of those who take shelter of His lotus feet. He manifests His innumerable transcendental forms for the satisfaction of His devotees.
Text 26: Lord Brahmā, approaching the Lord, addressed Him thus: My Lord, please protect me from these sinful demons, who were created by me under Your order. They are infuriated by an appetite for sex and have come to attack me."
God COMMANDS us to kill EVERYONE!
Our that them thar VALUES of society outta come from that them thar HOLY BIBLE, and if ya read it right, it actually says that God wants us to KILL EVERYBODY!!! Follow me through now: No one is righteous, NONE (Romans 3:10). Therefore, ALL must have done at least one thing bad, since they’d be righteous, had they never done anything bad. Well, maybe they haven’t actually DONE evil, maybe they THOUGHT something bad (Matt. 5:28, thoughts can be sins). In any case, they must’ve broken SOME commandment, in thinking or acting, or else they'd be righteous. James 2:10 tells us that if we've broken ANY commandment, we broke them ALL. Now we can’t weasel out of this by saying that the New Testament has replaced the Old Testament, because Christ said that he’s come to fulfill the old law, not to destroy it (Matt. 5:17). So we MUST conclude that all are guilty of everything. And the Old Testament lists many capital offenses! There’s working on Sunday. There’s also making sacrifices to, or worshipping, the wrong God (Exodus 22:20, Deut. 17:2-5), or even showing contempt for the Lord’s priests or judges (Deut. 17:12). All are guilty of everything, including the capital offenses. OK, so now we’re finally there... God’s Word COMMANDS us such that we’ve got to kill EVERYBODY!!!
(I am still looking for that special exception clause for me & my friends & family… I am sure I will find it very soon!)
It amazes me how Americans living in a purportedly Christian culture don't even understand the basic tenets of its theology.
Pretty much the whole point of Christianity is that everyone has sinned and is worthy of damnation so God became a human and took our punishment for us. And the libertarian angle is, that you still have a choice to accept or reject the gift already given.
Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV: For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Romans 6:23 ESV: For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 3:16-17 ESV: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Apparently, Mothers, you have not been completely exposed to the Church of SQRSLY. The Squirrel will provide the appropriate link but the basic tenets are:
1. Thou shalt not consume any and all poo before me. (The scholarly interpretation meaning prior to, as opposed to in front of.)
2. Thou shalt espouse the use of bad poetry, interpretive dance and random capitalization of word cheese to promote the church to others.
3. Thou shalt cut and then paste nonsensical dialogue in response to cogent thoughts.
4. Formatificationalism of words and phrases is approved.
5. The Squirrelchristo, given after prayer, is poo.
6. The Lizard people are not welcome.
Praise in the form of a bastardized nickname is the common Lament of the Church of SQRLSY.
Lol, indeed.

Don't forget the religion's main deity, the Golgothan from "Dogma."
"It amazes me how Americans living in a purportedly Christian culture don’t even understand the basic tenets of its theology."
Pretty much the whole point of Christianity is that everyone has sinned and is worthy of damnation so God became a human and took our punishment for us."
I think that most people know and understand these basic tenets, they just don't buy into it in that fashion. I mean, it is a pretty ridiculous concept, to me.
"And the libertarian angle is, that you still have a choice to accept or reject the gift already given."
Right, a "choice" of believing in Jesus or burning in Hell for all of eternity.
Indeed, you are correct.
According to Christianity, we are all sinful for the acts of Adam and Eve, whose only "sin" was as to eat of the Tree of Knowledge and acquire knowledge of good and evil. In other words, their "sin" was to become rational, intelligent, moral beings. They became aware of their nakedness and thus became sexual beings. They were condemned to work, so they became productive beings. In other words, Christianity condemns everything that's ssentially human and great about us.
Then, to punish this "sin," God came down to Earth as his own Son, conceived non-consensually with Mary and cuckolding Joseph, and knew that he was going to be tortured and die, thus making his death effectively a suicide, for all tbe "sins" of mankind which he himself created and knew would "sin."
Then, after 3 days of death, he came back to life, which of course, negated the very self-sacrifice he came to perform. And to have eternal life like him, all you have to do is confess your "sins" and believe all this nonsense or be condemned to a cosmic concentration camp called Hell for all eternity.
Yeah, right. Right?
In my church, Orthodox, they will perform no homosexual marriages. Sex outside marriage is common as well, seen as a sin, yet no one is calling for us to kill adulterers. Same with homosexuals.
If the question were asked 'do you support the same legal rights for gays as for straights' the result would be even higher. Any objections are about the equality in religion as in law. Not the same.
No, the verses don't need to be banned, just displayed in museums next to racks, thumbscrews, guillotines, Iron Maidens, drawing-and-quartering cords, church chandaliers and mosque minerets made of skulls, and other relics of barbarism.
Kind of like 20th century Atheism then? Those boys killed far more people than any religion ever did.
"Kind of like 20th century Atheism then?"
What is 20th century Atheism? I don't recall any such movement ever existing.
Collectivism in the form of Nazism, Fascism, and Communism killed the Twentieth Century's hundreds of millions, not Atheism.
Nazism and Fascism had symbiotic relationships with Christianity and Islam, and Communiism was Christian and other religions for centuries before Marxism. Atheism is only a position on the existence or non-existence of a God or gods, with no other necessary philosophical social, political, or moral implications.
And just where was any God in the midst of the Nazi Holocast, Ukraine's Holodolmar, Stalin's Great Purges, China's Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution, Cambodia's Killing Fields, Argentina's los Desparacitos mass kidnappings, Chinese genocide in Indonesia, The Islamic Revolution in Iran, ethnic cleansing in the Balkans, 9/11, and every other horror of the past 120 years?
If a God was Omniscient, Omnipotent, and Omnibenevolent, he would know of, could end, and would want to end the evils of our time. That evil exists and persists, so one or all of those traits is missing, and if they are missing, than what is and whither is God?
No one has answered this question of Theodicy to the satisfaction of reason, and I won't expect that answer here.
Encogitationer, excellent! Collectivism, authoritarianism, totalitarianism... THOSE are the killers here, NOT atheism! Well done!
Well, thanks...I guess. T'wern't nothing but simple history and political theory.
Now, mind you, I play no favorites on religion and my ire goes against any of them when they run against reason, science, individual rights, and limited government.
If the Church of SQRLS gets an exceptionally wild hair and wants to sell baked goods made according to Ezekiel 4 to the public, or, worse, if they want to make Ezekiel 4 into the law of the land, the Church of SQRLS will have a serious problem on its hands.
Just mind your 'p's and 'q's and your e colis and we're good.
"It is harder for a camel to pass through a needle than a rich man to enter heaven."
Great thing about the Bible is you can find anything you want if you look hard enough.
Well, sure, because like you, rich men tend to focus on gaining the approval of worldly, carnal institutions.
And wrong and hateful people resent the HELL out of correct , honest, and benevolent people! Which is why assholes like YOU, Red-Rocks-for-"Brains", constantly join in on derogation of real libertarians, in defense of authoritarians!
You resent the hell out of the fact that many other people are flat-out, better, more honest people than you are, right? More “live and let live”, and WAAAY less authoritarian?
https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/in-love-and-war/201706/why-some-people-resent-do-gooders
From the conclusion to the above…
These findings suggest that we don’t need to downplay personal triumphs to avoid negative social consequences, as long as we make it clear that we don’t look down on others as a result.
SQRLSY back here now… So, I do NOT want you to feel BAD about YOU being an asshole, and me NOT being one! PLEASE feel GOOD about you being an asshole! You do NOT need to push me (or other REAL lovers of personal liberty) down, so that you can feel better about being an asshole! EVERYONE ADORES you for being that asshole that you are, because, well, because you are YOU! FEEL that self-esteem, now!
Cry more, shit-muncher.
Sounds like you are finding lots of specks in their eyes, never paying attention to the beams in your own
Read this and cry some more!

READ IT, cowardly one, and THEN tell my about the beams in my eyes! (What is wrong with what is written here, above?)
Ezekiel 4 is interestingreading, but not at mealtime. There is actually an Ezekiel 4:9 bread in grocer's freezers. I wonder if buyers read the full verse and yak up?
That Bible quote is just about spooning, Rabbi.
Spooning leads to forking....
As long as it's not sporking. I hate that utensil. Spoon. Fork. Pick one and stick with it.
Ah, but sporks are the lucky ones. They are twice as likely to be in somebody's mouth on a date at the Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC.)
And since KFC has suspended the slogan "Finger Lickin' Good!" due to COVID-19, the spork is even more likely to get some oral play!
(Pop-Up Video Factoid: IIRC, "spork" entered our lexicon from Rich Hall's feature "Snigglets" on the HBO show Not Necessarily The News, where Rich Hall created words for phenomenon that didn't have a formal name.)
So spooning, forking, sporking...it's all good! Just do it consensually, hygienically, safely, and respect your partner after the Little Buckets Dessert is finished. 🙂
You G.O.Y.N., Girl!

I concur with your interpretation of God's law, but many things violate the Judeo/Christian standards of sin while they don't violate man's law. For example, adultery is one such sin. While it's morally indefensible, I firmly believe that it doesn't belong on the law books. The government should have no say in such matters. I view homosexuality the same way. While God clearly defines it as a sin, the government has no business involving itself in this conduct. Taking the Lord's name in vain...where do we end it, if we're going to make all sin illegal?
"While God clearly defines it as a sin..."
If you believe that the Christian Bible really is the "Word of God", then yeah. But if you don't take that on faith, then it is the men that wrote the Bible that define it as a sin.
This is why I agree with you when you say, "the government has no business involving itself in this conduct." That is because the government has no business restricting the freedoms of individuals based only on the moral rules of religions. If the main argument that something is wrong is that "God said so", then there isn't a good enough reason for government to restrict it.
It should be noted several people who study ancient Hebrew have argued that male as it is written can be translated as young male meaning a male child, we can't be 100 percent sure of the translation. There is a good video about it I could link you too
Trump's track record on marriages should send a chill down the backs of any gay person considering marriage.
Well 50% of them anyway, the other 50% are all like "Cha-Ching!"
Johnny Carson makes Trump look like a Piker
Made is the operative (or inoperative) term. Johnny Carson is dead.
The 'Original Sin' was DOMA. That never should have been passed. Leave marriage for the states to decide. To me, this was never, ever a federal issue pre-DOMA. But DOMA opened the door, and here we are.
YHGTBKM
Doma just tried to Protect state law
Why would state laws need "protection"? "States' Rights" has long been a cry by those that want to have the "right" to limit the freedom or power of minorities within their states.

At 76 percent, support for same-sex marriage among Democrats is about where it was in 2018...
Why oh why has that 24 percent not been canceled yet?
They know who the pedophiles are?
Palin, people jeff wants to come over the border, etc.
Still waiting for the number who supports government not being involved in marriage. Like an actual libertarian position.
Dee will be along shortly to explain why presenting the libertarian perspective isn’t ENB’s job. Then she’ll call us right wingers later.
I started rewatching that show again. So hilarious.
Caw caw!
You still don’t get it?
Don’t get that you try to gaslight me all the time by claiming there is something I’m not getting. No, I’m aware that you do that.
No you really don’t get it. Sorry, that’s not my problem.
That was an interesting statistic. Democrats usually move in lockstep on social issues, as the central planners tell them to do.

“Big Tech critic Tim Wu joins Biden administration to work on competition policy,” boomed CNBC, while Marketwatch added, “Anti-Big Tech crusader reportedly poised to join Biden White House.” Chicago law professor Eric Posner’s piece for Project Syndicate was titled “Antitrust is Back in America.” Posner noted Wu’s appointment comes as Senator Amy Klobuchar has introduced regulatory legislation that ostensibly targets companies like Facebook and Google, which a House committee last year concluded have accrued “monopoly power.”
Wu’s appointment may presage tougher enforcement of tech firms. However, he has other passions that got less ink. Specifically, Wu — who introduced the concept of “net neutrality” and once explained it to Stephen Colbert on a roller coaster — is among the intellectual leaders of a growing movement in Democratic circles to scale back the First Amendment. He wrote an influential September, 2017 article called “Is the First Amendment Obsolete?” that argues traditional speech freedoms need to be rethought in the Internet/Trump era.
As a result, those who place faith in the First Amendment to solve speech dilemmas should “admit defeat” and imagine new solutions for repelling foreign propaganda, fake news, and other problems. “In some cases,” Wu writes, “this could mean that the First Amendment must broaden its own reach to encompass new techniques of speech control.” What might that look like? He writes, without irony: “I think the elected branches should be allowed, within reasonable limits, to try returning the country to the kind of media environment that prevailed in the 1950s.”
— More ominously, Wu suggests that in modern times, the government may be more of a bystander to a problem in which private platforms play the largest roles. Therefore, a potential solution (emphasis mine) “boils down to asking whether these platforms should adopt (or be forced to adopt) norms and policies traditionally associated with twentieth-century journalism.”
, ...to try returning the country to the kind of media environment that prevailed in the 1950s.”
Black and white crt televisions?
McCarthy going after commies, I hope.
Haha. Progs love living in the 1950s, where it’s Jim Crow every day, and the rich are almost kinda taxed appropriately.
It’s their favorite decade. They really never left.
Does this mean that Tim Wu thinms that Internet platforms should be forced to adopt the standards of NBC News, who rigged a gas tank explosion in a report about alleged unsafe vehicles? Or CNN, who claimed the U.S. used gas warfare in Southeast Asia? Or The New York Times, who published Walter Duranty's lies whitewashing Stalin?
Yeah, fuck this guy.
Another chink in the Constitutional armor of protected speech....SAD!
Now, now Harv. Don't diss your source of Christmas Day Dim Sum and Spare Ribs. 🙂
“I think the elected branches should be allowed, within reasonable limits, to try returning the country to the kind of media environment that prevailed in the 1950s.”
Can we return society as a whole to that time, then? I'm willing to put with 1950s tax rates in exchange for 1950s budgets and aggressive commie blacklisting.
Not to mention a distinct lack of women politicians nannying us to death.
That alone would be worth it.
"And on the 175th day, God sent a plague to wipe all scolds from the face of the earth which he had previously allowed to flourish"
The dumbest part of Wu's argument is that he clearly has no fucking clue what the media environment was like in the 1950s. Most news orgs were dedicated to promoting milquetoast business boosterism and anti-communist civic nationalism that celebrated the very people Wu and his ideological fellows have been subverting for 50-plus years.
For all of the ass-kissing that Edward R. Murrow got after McCarthy's fall, the truth is that McCarthy didn't lose his support until he went after the Army, whose reputation with the public after WW2 was sky-high. It wasn't journalists that took him down, it was McCarthy's own hubris.
Yes but now you are supposing that he has any ability to view the 1950s as anything more than a series of vignettes, which he doesn't.
And you are spot on with the McCarthy defenestration.
Support was lowest among white evangelical Protestants: 43 percent.
No other religious group was lower. Interesting.
First, it's a big group, so they pull down the average overall.
Second, evangelicals believe strongly in textual analysis of Biblical law, and unlike almost other controversial laws, the Leviticus ban on homosexuality was not contravened anywhere else in the Bible. Unlike, say, Catholics, who have the doctrine of decrees from the priesthood, Evangelical Christianity was founded on the principle that no one had authority to modify biblical law.
I've known more than one person to leave the church based on this contradiction.
Evangelical Christians, and indeed literalist Christians in general, have no business using electricity or electronics, since the atom and subatomic paricles like electrons aren't mentioned in any version of The Holy Bible.
Thats not how religion works..
As River Tam so rightly observed: "It's broken."
>t. r/atheism
I got my Atheism from George H. Smith's Atheism: The Case Against God, way before there was a Reddit and before The Four Horsemen Dawkins, Dennett, Harris, and Hitchens became popular. I must say, though, the Atheist memes and out-takes of today can be quite profound and entertaining..
The Second Amendment only covers muskets!
The Second Amendment (and indeed the whole U.S. Constitution) doesn't prohibit adding to or taking out of the text. The Holy Bible in the last verses of Revelation does prohibit adding to and tsking out of the text. Adding to means a fate worse than a million COVID-19 parties and taking out gets you kicked off of OG's guest list. So the analogy doesn't hold.
Lol, someone found an "UnBaptism" tract.
1. It beyond obvious that the stanza refers to the prophecy and its meaning, and not the arrangements of letters and words, or all the different translators from the original Greek would be sweating.
2. It's referring solely to the prophecy in the book of Revelations as the Bible as an anthology of scriptures wasn't collected at that point.
"“For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this Book. If anyone shall add to these things, God shall add to him the plagues that are written in this Book.
19 And if anyone shall take away from the words of the Book of this prophecy, God shall take out his part of the Book of Life, and of the holy City, and from those things which are written in this Book.”
You need to bone up on your Amazing Atheist YouTube videos.
I’m not even familiar with much of scripture, but the idea that if it is the word of god, he would have tried to explain current science back then is ludicrous. You gave a better answer though. Thanks for the info.
You may want to take it up with every jack-legged Sunday School teacher who terrorized little kids with those verses. I didn't need to find an "UnBaptism" text (whatever that is.) I lived the terror of those words in Revelation.
You also may want to take it up with The Family founded by Abraham Vereide, who pared down their scripture to just The Gospels and Acts and who have tried to ply Theocratic influence on both the U.S. and nations abroad and who pal around with some of the most reprehensible gangster-leaders on the Planet.
You may also want to take it up with every false predictor of The Second Coming, which obviously involved a whole Hell of a lot of adding to and taking out from the text, of Revelation and other Books of The Holy Bible.
In other words, all you True Believers can mud-wrestle all you want about Scripture. I and everyone else have a life to live outside of it.
Can they still stone gays to death?
"literalist Christians in general, have no business using electricity or electronics, since the atom and subatomic paricles like electrons aren’t mentioned in any version of The Holy Bible."

"I'm just going to strawman an amazingly retarded assumption and leave it here, hoping that the rest of you will be dumb enough to nod along" - t. Encogitationer
Also, the concept of Sola Scriptura goes back to the reformation, the birth of Protestantism and Martin Luther, numpty. Long before what you call "Evangelicals".
It's not "retarded" to the Amish.
And Martin Luther also called the faculty of reason--the namesake of this Web Site--"a beautiful whore" and called empirical science "a sin of the eyes" and Luther wrote Der jüden Und Ehren Lügen (On the Jews and Their Lies, )which the Nazis read and quoted and practiced with great relish. Yeah! Luther's words are a real keeper! /sarc
You misrepresented (lied) about the first two things, but nice distraction attempt because Luther wasn't even the point.
The point is that you were making idiot inferences that weren't historically (or doctrinally) accurate.
All right, please show me what is not doctrinely and historically inaccurate, as well as where I have intentionally misrepresented something. You obviously claim to know more of me than I do of myself and know how to hurl names. so please enlighten me.
No other religious group you'd be brave enough to mention at any rate. Because of their peacefulness.
Oh, you mean Islam, The Religion of Pieces?
As Neal Boortz so bitingly sang:
Allah loves the little children!
All the little children of the world!
Red and Yellow, Black and White,
Loaded up with dynamite!
Allah loves the little children of the world!
I miss Boortz.
"The Religion of Pieces"
Maybe I am slow and old... I can't recall having heard that one before!

They allow marriages, just your wedding gift is being thrown off a roof.
Good one.
It is worth noting that this is a poll of Americans and American Moslems may hold different beliefs or interpretations of their faith. Three prominent Moslems in Congress Rep. Andre Carson, Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib all support LGTB rights.
“Three prominent Moslems in Congress Rep. Andre Carson, Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib all support LGTB rights.”
What does this mean exactly, separate from plain individual rights?
It means that Moslems in America are far more likely to be sympathetic or at least neutral to the idea of gay marriage. It means that you can't assume that the beliefs of hard line Moslem sects, like the middle east Wahabi, are the same as American Moslems.
This could be what's known in Islam as Taqquia or the strategic deception of unbelievers, one's spouse, or even other Muslims, for the sake of carrying out Jihad.
Between these three targets for taqquia, the term "Islamic civilization" is either purely accidental or a contradiction in terms.
Those of whom you speak aren't even on the list. The poll data breaks protestants into five separate groups, but nothing on the second largest religion in the world. I have no idea why they might have done this.
It's possible that they number too few in America to be significant in the poll results, I suppose.
The Methodist White Terror controlled 117 seats in the House and Senate in 1925. Every foreigner, non-white or poor person murdered on suspicion of beer became ipso facto another example of how courageous First Responders™ were protecting America from the Demon Rum and Assassins of Youth. Just like today, almost all of them were faith-based Republicans.
Almost all of who, Hank? It’s kinda hard to follow.
Don’t you guys remember how the V chip stopped all the violence on tv?
And in highschool my V card was maintained by being in the d&d club

President Joe Biden's
new gun control plans "make little sense .https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/victoria-taft/2021/03/23/who-are-these-outsiders-big-tech-zuck-bucks-paid-government-election-offices-to-become-turn-out-machines-for-biden-in-2020-election-n1433764
Beginning last year, Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook joined with Google and other high-tech companies and NGOs to grant hundreds of millions of dollars to fund already taxpayer-funded elections across the country, with the express purpose of defeating Donald Trump. A public-interest law group says those dollars were used to take over election offices and use local government apparatus to turn out Democrat voters to get rid of Trump. As previously reported in December by PJ Media colleague J. Christian Adams, this was done to great effect on behalf of Joe Biden in multiple cities and counties throughout the swing and other states.
...Flush with hundreds of millions in new cash, government election offices turned those donations into manpower, new equipment, and street muscle to turn often sluggish and incompetent urban election offices into massive Biden turnout machines across the country – in Madison, Milwaukee, Detroit, Lansing, Philadelphia, and Atlanta among dozens of others.
Those millions were used to hire local activists as city employees to drive around and collect ballots. The millions bought new printers and scanners to accommodate mail ballots. Philadelphia established brand new satellite election offices across the most Biden-friendly neighborhoods in the entire Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The millions bought scores of convenient drop boxes across the same neighborhoods where mail ballots could be conveniently dropped. Even though laws limited third parties from collecting and dropping off multiple ballots, people were photographed dropping off bundles of ballots at the boxes.
Those millions were used to hire local activists as city employees to drive around and collect ballots.
In some cases, it wasn't even locals. That douchebag who was put in charge of Milwaukee's office was from Brooklyn and fucked off back to New York after the election was over.
Cleanest election ever... also last presidential election ever (lols sadly and softly).
The girls you get someone else to bully will crush your dreams of a Positive Christian National Socialist Gott Mitt Uns kleptocracy. But there is always the Jim Jones and Brother Adolf solution...
Where does Comstock and the Corn Laws fit in again?
President Joe Biden's new gun control plans "make little sense as a response to the mass shooting in Boulder,"
It makes compleate sense. Biden has said he will try everything and anything to bann guns. What idiot doesn't think that includes using an event unrelated to any of bidens proposals.
"Reason's Jacob Sullum writes."
Ahhh that's the idiot. That is why my name is Rev kuck and I have not clicked a sullum article in 16 days {excluding my slip up 16 days ago it has been just over a month). And it feels good
Not getting my clicks either.
Yesterday evening White Knight was wondering why the fifty-centers had free reign under the Sullum article.
Chemleft in particular was trying to drive up clicks.
Im on board, but misclick too often. Id like to swear of ENB too, but the roundup has the best comment section.

Living is white privilege.

"Harry and Meghan's new strategist has revealed that she realised she was racist after marrying her black husband.
Genevieve Roth believes that all white people are 'rife with internalised racism and unconscious bias'.
'Race is an issue in our marriage because as a white woman of privilege, I have racist tendencies written in at a cellular level,' the former Hilary Clinton aide wrote."
It really would be nice if these self-loathing white people would simply open their own wrists instead of demanding that all other white people hate themselves at the same visceral level.
I wonder if the "internalised racism" was the assumption that her husband had a giant cock because he was black.
White progressives do still buy into that myth and don't seem to know how racist it is.
Bingo
"What is that? It looks like a 'Vyenner' sausage it does! Are you taking the piss?"
So I've noticed in TV commercials a few years ago they started including a lot more interracial couples.
But within the last year or so, those interracial couples in commercials have shifted to be almost entirely black male + white female.
Methinks some fetishism is going on among ad execs and casting directors...
The radical left has fetishized black people for a long time now. The Black Panthers and Weather Underground had a falling out in large part because the former realized this.
What was the falling out??
"This is an outrage!! These bitches only want to fuck us."
They fell out over the ideology of violent revolution--the Panthers and groups like the Black Liberation Army were dead serious about it, but Weather Underground, particularly Bernardine Dohrn and Bill Ayers, lost all taste for that strategy after their mates blew themselves up in Greenwich Village. The black revolutionaries came to believe that WU didn't see them as anything other than meat shields, which wasn't entirely an inaccurate assessment, and told them to fuck off.
Therein lies the difference between being an actual radical and those who LARP it.
"I'm tired of having sex with black guys and now we have to go make a bomb for them? Let's go back to Buffalo."
"These muthafuckin' crackers is just LARPing this shit."
Black men should avoid women who only date black men like the plague. These women are without a doubt some of the most racist members of our society. They believe all of the hypersexual myths that used to spread about black people during the reefer madness era. Yes, they also initially think they have bigger cocks, but these women are usually complete whores, so they've seen enough black dick to know better. Black only white women think of black men like some kind of partially intelligent sex toys.
Please tell me you have a newsletter
Are you kidding? The excretory "Mount Vesuvius" commercial for Alexa is a white guy with jungle fever
But what I guarantee you won't see is BiPOCs being portrayed as idiots like you do crackers
Who the fuck doesn't know that Vesuvius destroyed Pompeii???
West Africans, like the woman shown, were known to the ancient Romans but they were rarer than rare and were considered quite strange.
They were pretty familiar with Ethiopians and Numidians, but that's a completely different phenotype.
West Africans weren't particularly present because; a) Rome got its slaves from the North, and b) it's immigrants from the Eastern Mediterranean, and c) the Sahara was practically uncrossable at the time.
This guy knows his shit.
Obama isnt even the same clade as slave descended black americans, he may as well have been egyptian or berber.
I don't know about that. I have yet to see a Sphinx with elephant-sized ears
I have noticed the opposite coupling; most commercials I seem to see is white guy + black chick. This makes sense if as an advertiser you're trying to both court the race-conscious liberal consumer and ignore ruffling the feathers of traditionalists, but it's way out of proportion to that pairing's numbers in society.
Also the gay couples only seem to have an effeminate member if the commercial is of the customer testimonial variety or pitched directly to the gay market. That couldn't at all reflect the shifted power dynamics in this country or anything.
The best part of that will be how advertisers have to find a way to represent *every* sort of partnership in commercials. Hetero, homo, poly,
"If two black guys have the white wife, which of them do we have act as if they have no idea how to use a browser to buy shoes without it being considered racist??"
Like two black guys would have a white wife. The whole point of the third wheel is to check more boxes: androgynous Hispanic/Asian transsexual is the only option for a national campaign.
Very good point. I had forgotten the flourishes required to kill any sex appeal

...U.S. Circuit Judge Sandra Lynch insisted over and over again that the fact that a police officer could walk by a house and see what was happening outside meant that the government had a right to use a hidden camera to see what was happening outside all day long for months on end.
Then let a cop park his fat ass outside all day long for months on end. But they don't walk a beat anymore.
Or just get a blasted warrant. I cannot believe how much time and energy the government spends just trying to avoid having to gather probable cause and spend 10 minutes of paperwork for a judge to rubber stamp their investigation.

And Judge Lynch also insisted that the fact that a private citizen could walk by her house and see what was happening outside means that anyone has a right to use a hidden camera to see what was happening outside all day long for months on end, right? RIGHT?!

Leaked Docs Show Obama FTC Gave Google Its Monopoly After Google Execs Helped Obama Get Re-Elected
https://thefederalist.com/2021/03/22/leaked-docs-show-obama-ftc-gave-google-its-monopoly-after-google-execs-helped-obama-get-re-elected/
Eight years ago, the Federal Trade Commission had the chance to face down Google — the giant of Silicon Valley whose power now alters the free flow of information at a global scale, distorts market access for businesses large and small, and changes the nature of independent thought in ways the world has never experienced.
Instead, the FTC blinked — and blinked hard, choosing to close the investigation in early 2013. A remarkable leak to Politico of agency documents about the 2012 Google investigation reveals that, despite ample evidence of market distortions and threats to competition presented by the agency’s lawyers, the five commissioners of the FTC deferred instead to speculative claims by their economists.
Records and reporting about the 2012 investigation suggest the FTC did so while bending to political pressure from the Obama White House — which was, in turn, bending to political pressure from Google. William Kovacic, a former FTC chair under President George W. Bush, reviewed the more than 300 pages of documents leaked to Politico and concluded the agency overlooked “what many experts and regulators would consider clear antitrust violations,” calling the specificity of issues outlined “breathtaking.”
In short, where we find ourselves today — with Google as the primary filter of the world’s information, engaging in a network of exclusionary contracts and anti-competitive conduct, and subject to an antitrust lawsuit led by the Department of Justice and joined by 48 state attorneys general — could have, and should have, been avoided.
That was a good article. Remember, Obama campaign bragged about working with Google to get extra social network data not available to other campaigns. It is political/corporate collusion. There is a reason the left is diluting what fascism is.
A good article that our resident lefties will completely ignore so they can continue to squawk about muh private property.
“Among other claims, two economists also alleged that Google’s grip on the market for mobile devices would fall in the face of competition from Amazon and Mozilla — and that the mobile distribution channel for search was too small a market to be relevant.”
I didn’t know Paul Krugman was an economist for the FTC.
It's really Stalinism more than classical fascism. At least the fascists actually loved their home country instead of constantly trashing it and trying to subvert it.
The (post)modern left has taken the worst aspects of nazism, stalinism, and maoism to combine into their current ideology
This.
Yup, when people call what's going on Marxist and Fascist, they aren't being contradictory. The new beast is a hybrid.
With some Maoist struggle sessions initiated by our own red guard thrown in for fun.

Leaked Docs Show Obama FTC Gave Google Its Monopoly After Google Execs Helped Obama Get Re-Elected
It's like I keep trying to hammer into people--Google and Facebook got as big as they are BY DESIGN. Does anyone really think two companies built on venture capital and tech from spook front men and investment arms are going to get restricted in any way by the government? The feds are their fucking sponsors!
There's no difference between today's Tech Trust and the Steel Trust, Railroad Trust, etc. of the Gilded Age, except the former is tied to Democrats rather than Republicans like the latter was.
All the while they can evade the first amendment because their front companies are technically "private".
It's also why I have no sympathy if Republicans ultimately decide to take them out. The Dems don't have the balls to do it because these companies act as in-kind political contributors, the GOPe is afraid of pissing off the Chamber of Commerce and other assorted business parasites, and the spooks use their tech to illegally spy on us. They're even more guilty than Adolf Eichmann was.
But Cox went ahead and signed another piece of unconstitutional legislation, this one requiring all phones sold in Utah to come with porn-blocking filters pre-installed.
Cox blocked.
Cox blocked, people socked. No, wait...
Forget it, I got nothin'.
Cox Blocks Phone Cocks, Knocks Talk Block a Crock
What do you think will happen to phone sales in Utah? And in neighboring states?
This is what will happen:
1) People would drive to carrier stores in outlying states,
2) Someone will create a firmware image of popular phones without the filters (but who knows with what else) which can be installed
3) Someone will write a patch upgrade that either disables the filter or roots the device allowing it to be disabled
4) Some people will be too lazy and just beat off to porn with their laptop
That is such a pain in the ass from a manufacturing perspective.
So do you manufacture all devices now with a filter by default or do you do a separate MP and earmark a specific lot of devices as being 'Utah' compliant?
PITA
Probably trying to end up with the California approach where one state de facto creates national regulations. But Utah's just not that big, so it's likely to just going to end up with fewer available devices in the market.
Technically what is to stop a firmware update which disables the filter post sale?
A new enforcement agency with an ever-expanding mandate and budget.
That's check and mate.
Well played.
You could make a decent pile of scratch by developing software that disables, or preferably removes, kill-joy regulation mandated pre-loades software

Gays can get married now, and more people accept it as OK. Hooray!
The forcible cake-baking is total crap, I do agree with you on that. Cake-baking is different than the local emergency room. No one ever died for lack of quick access to a gay wedding cake! But some people LOVE to fight, and make mountains out of mole hills!

So Syrian radical Muslim Ahmad Al-Issa killed 10 people at “Your One-Stop Shop for Kosher Groceries” and we’re supposed to all make believe that this wasn’t terror and run with the depressed guy angle.
Wait... are you saying the guy was having a bad day?!? Get Aaron Rupar and ENB on the case.
Do you have any evidence that it was a terror attack? Other than, you know, bigoted assumptions resulting from his name and his birthplace.
Well if the shoe fits....
Oh right. Just checking, if you come across a white male with a Southern drawl, it would be totally fine to assume that person is a racist redneck, right? I mean, if we're going to be judging people based on superficial appearances and all.
...don't forget the social-media history showing a persecution complex and a focus on white-Southerner issues.
You mean like the Oberlin folks you were simping for did to the bake shop?
There’s some parts of speech missing from that sentence, for sure.
the media did assume that yesterday dummy. Before they learned the guys name,
Let’s say it is true that “the media” (JesseAz vaguely waves his arm around) assumes white southerners are all rednecks. Why is that chemjeff’s problem and how does it dispute chemjeff’s point.
You are a bubbling cauldron of resentment and victimhood, which makes you damned illogical much of the time.
I have been too busy to follow the story. Is there any actual evidence he is a radical Muslim?
I was reading an article yesterday where people that went to high school with him mentioned a few details that sounded like schizophrenia: claiming people not present in the room were talking about him, being tracked by the government on his cell phone. (Denver Post, I think. I’ll have to see if it can find it again)
If only you put in 1/10th the effort you did in regards to fire extinguisher deaths.
So you have no useful information to add to the conversation.
The only "evidence" that he's a radical Muslim terrorist extremist is that (1) he has an Arabic name, (2) he was born in Syria, and (3) he posted some things on Facebook in support of Islam. That's it.
I was just reading more about him. There was more about how he may be mentally ill. And that he was bullied by a few peers by being called a radical Muslim and “sand nigger”, which is, of course, not the same as his being a radical Muslim.
Wait a second. Someone on Twitter is trying to get away with characterizing nondescript supermarket chain, King Soopers, as if there is something particularly kosher about the place. That’s a pretty blatant attempt at spin, if you’ve ever set foot in a King Soopers.
I suspect the only reason he picked the one in Boulder is because he figured no one in the store would even be carrying concealed (which turned out to be a correct assumption), given what a white, far-left haven that city is. That wouldn't necessarily be the case out in the west Arvada suburbs where his family actually lives.

That's the Amendment Quaker Dick Nixon attacked when he signed the ABM treaty. Republicans will learn Allahu Akbar chants quickly enough to help further those religious causes.

Even the New York Times admits that, in the past decade, cities have gone from “engines of growth and opportunity” to places where class relations are increasing fixed, with only the upper end of the income spectrum doing well. Gotham’s one percent earns a third of the entire city’s personal income. That’s almost twice the proportion for the rest of the country. But such class disparity is becoming the norm; in the tech haven of San Francisco, which has the worst levels of inequality in California, the top 5% of households earn an average of $808,105 annually, compared with $16,184 for the lowest 20%.
...Remarkably, despite the dramatic rise in homicides, the city seems likely to continue its programme of de-funding the police. In many cities — Los Angeles, Minneapolis, San Francisco, St. Louis, New York — “progressive” district attorneys have worked assiduously to restrain law enforcement. In California, where it is no longer considered a felony to steal anything worth less than $1,000, there has been a surge in property crime, including a huge rise in car thefts. San Francisco, for example, has seen the drug store Walgreens close ten outlets since 2019, citing elevated levels of theft and weak law enforcement. Meanwhile New York’s bodegas, small markets in ethnic neighbourhoods, experienced a 222% increase in burglaries last year.
That's because the people pushing the policies don't have to worry about the consequences. Either because they are so extremely wealthy losing a thousand doesn't effect them, or because they live in cloistered neighborhoods of wealth that use other means to keep thieves out.
I'm sure every one of these wealthy assholes is a committed anti-racist with copies of White Fragility, How to Be an Anti-Racist, and Between the World and Me on their bookshelves.
"But Cox went ahead and signed another piece of unconstitutional legislation, this one requiring all phones sold in Utah to come with porn-blocking filters pre-installed."
Why is this unconstitutional exactly?
Mandating parental controls may not be 100% libertarian, but they're a far cry better than censorship to protect children. If parents are too damn lazy to set up the parental controls on their TVs, computers, game consoles, and kids' smart phones, then what justification do they have for censorship? Mandating parental controls may not be appropriate, but they're also the 100% libertarian solution when installed by parents of their own free will.
A better idea would have been to force all carriers to explain to parents that they have centralized parental controls in place already, if they would like to use that service. Or if they wanted to be dicks, make it opt out instead of opt in.
But not unconstitutional. ENB is still a fucking dingbat.
So, what's the libertarian position on children having rights of their own to access information, independently of their parents' wishes?
There are age restriction laws for certain types of information.
But is that consistent with libertarianism?

"EVANSTON, Ill. -- Using tax money from the sale of recreational marijuana, the Chicago suburb of Evanston has become the first U.S. city to make reparations available to its Black residents for past discrimination and the lingering effects of slavery.
The City Council on Monday voted 8-1 to begin making good on its pledge to distribute $10 million over the next 10 years with the distribution of $400,000 to eligible Black households. Each qualifying household would receive $25,000 for home repairs, down payments on property, and interest or late penalties on property in the city..."

There's a whole lot of free money floating around!
And each person to accept it has to sign a waiver that their descendents can never claim reiterating again as they've already been given right?
Ironically, their descendants will probably be worse off as this is clearly a move toward communism
Each qualifying household would receive $25,000 for home repairs, down payments on property, and interest or late penalties on property in the city…”
*** meekly raises hand ***
Could that money be used for an African trip to put "the lingering effects of slavery" into perspective?
"Please report to re-programming. Someone gave you too much clarity of thought."
lingering effects ."
so now they have moved the goalpost, as we knew they would, and anything can be construed to be lingering such that everyone even those who weren't here can now feed at the trough. When a population can tax itself more money there will be no end to the taxes. When will thy realize they are taxing themselves to pay themselves back a small portion of their stolen "taxed" monies
"for home repairs, down payments on property, and interest or late penalties on property in the city"
Just a round about way of making their friends richer.
That no one has picked up on that is amazing. Even when they give them reparations, the recipients get the freedom of using the money as they see fit.
No, it is funneled back to whitey and hymies

The Warriors were a basketball team.
Warriors against guns.
Real Warriors use spears! Wait, was that racist?
"Chuck you!"
BTW, his father being shot is the source of his expertise on the matter.
He was shot by the PLO. Kerr chose to go the liberal route and blame guns.
Says a lot about his 'thought' processes.
Yall crackers think only black athletes are braindead?
No. Hey wait a minute!
Last election was so secure and trustworthy, Dems want to nationalize them
"S.1 and its House companion are massive, sweeping pieces of legislation that ban states from requiring photo ID to vote; raise barriers for states to clear voter rolls; require states to offer drop boxes for 45 days before an election; reshape the FEC and much more. It represents a vast expansion of the federal government's role in elections administered by states."
How about a new check box on your tax return? "Check here to vote a straight Democrat ticket next election."
Actually, make it “Check here to opt out of voting a straight Democrat ticket next election.” (Props to Cass Sunstein.)
1/3 of Dems and 2/3 of Republicans think 2020 was rigged. A majority of Dems think the Russians changed votes in 2016. Yea, lets eliminate ballot protections so nobody ever thinks the other side won fairly ever again. Lets make the government illegitimate in the eyes of anyone who loses an election. Lets make obeying the law a suckers game. Lets just have a politically acceptable military enforce the rules at gunpoint in the name of protecting democracy. Progs are fucking toddlers who never think past wanting to put the shiny thing in their mouths right now.
'Anarchy' is lack of govt; this is just plain govt failure. And it will fail.
I don't know why people don't mention the percentage of Democrats who think the election was rigged more. That's a really high number from members of the party that won the White House.
We're totally going to show them in 2022 if they go too far though...
At least, that's what I keep reading here.
"In 2020, 51 percent of the Republicans polled by PRRI said they support granting legal marriage rights to same-sex couples. This is up from 47 percent in 2019 and 31 percent in 2011"
Don't crack the champagne yet, ENB.
People lie to pollsters. Especially in the current socio-political climate where publicly opposing gay marriage will cost you your livelihood.
This is like asking people "Do you support the latest five year plan" in Stalin's Soviet Union.
The more remarkable stat here is that 49% were still publicly willing to go on record opposing it despite the potential costs.
I supported the latest five-year plan.
For the first time, a majority of Republicans support marriage equality for gay and lesbian couples
Phew. We can finally lean back and relax knowing that equality has been fully achieved and that oppression has been crushed forev.....
wait, anyone else hearing a loud wooshing sound like something being quickly and aggressively moved?
"...anyone else hearing a loud wooshing sound like something being quickly and aggressively moved?"
You are hearing the sound of the disappearance of a majority of "Conservative" support for "conserving" democracy (to be replaced by mobocracy) and peaceful transfers of power (to be replaced by trumpanzees gone apeshit, rioting). "He who gets the most votes" is being replaced by "He who whines, cries, and lies the most", about almost-100%-imaginary voter fraud.
Tolerant conservatives now tolerate gays. Yay! Now how about tolerating the right to have NON-conservative votes be accepted willingly? How about tolerating MULTI-PARTY DEMOCRACY, fer Christ's sake?!?!

Now how about tolerating the right to have fecal tasting parties be accepted willingly? How about tolerating COPRAPHILIA and INCEST with my hot daughter, fer Gaia’s sake?!?!

Hey Tulpa…
Is your latest voice that of you as Evil 0O0One Junior, or Evil O0O0ne Junior? Some of us are smart enough to smell the lies of you AND your boss, the Father of Lies, you know, liar! ID thief! Cesspool of lies and hate!
What, exactly, do you think that you’re earning for yourself, serving the Father of Lies? Do you think your Big Dadda is gonna share its imaginary hate-POWER with you, or what?
If THAT is your illusion, please go study THIS! So many of us fantasize that our support of those who we think is (or will be) the “winner” will earn us the support of the “winners” and their spoils.
See “the night of the long knives” at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_of_the_Long_Knives… Ernst Röhm (head brownshirt, street brawler, for Hitler) thought his support of Hitler would leave him sitting pretty. So sorry, Ernst Röhm, Hitler had another thing coming for you…
Right here on Reason.com comments, we see the same thing. The “brownshirts” of the commentary (Nards, etc.) try to brownshirt their enemies off of the comments board, tell their enemies to commit suicide, and other “street fighting”. And Tulpa and ID theft. They, I suspect, expect payback (war spoils) from “winning” Orange Hitler, just as Ernst Röhm did from “winning” Hitler. And yes, the Father of Lies as well!
Bimsday, 39 Bemberbember 2020 at 6:66 PM
Like Ernst Röhm, Tulpa I have a big thing coming for you… It's five hard inches full of blood and fury.
Right here on Reason.com comments, I see my rhetorical "brownshirts" (you guys) versus the actually fascist “brownshirts” of the commentary (sarcasmic, chemjeff, me etc.) try to antifa me off of the comments board, tell me to stop hiding my medication under my tongue FUCK YOU DOCTOR JENNIFER, and calling us “red-diaper-doper-baby”. And Tulpa and ID theft. I expect payback (war spoils) from “fiddling” the vote against Orange Hitler, just as Hitler did from “winning” Geli Raubal. And yes, the Father of Lies as well!
I love to LIE my ass off, and suck Satan’s dick! Because I hate humanity! The Evil One is the Father of Lies, just as Der TrumpfenFuhrer is the Stable Genius! So, as the apple falls not far from the tree, I INSIST on telling obvious lies, all day, every day! Butt… Surprise, surprise! Other Evil Ones Junior will fall for my lies… Because they want to!
Hey Tulpa you would-be Jesus-killer, Mahatma Gandhi-killer, Martin Luther King Jr.-killer, etc., I know that you are too stupid AND too EVIL to read and understand the link below, which explains WHY it is that YOU would want to kill Jesus if you met him tomorrow. But OTHER readers, more intelligent, and (more importantly) more BENEVOLENT than you, Evil One Junior... MIGHT read and understand it! So here it is!

Jeeper's Sqrls, you've really lost it haven't you?
You're too stupid to recognize an ID thief when you see one? Or do you belong to "libertarians for ID theft"?
Why yes, that's exactly who I belong to.
You're so perceptive, is it the medication?
Now on to Poly families. Yep they are talking about that already and i think California is already allowing that.
The Biden administration has preliminarily set the "social cost of carbon" (SCC) at $51 per ton. We should expect that number to rise in the future as setting the costs of carbon and its impact on climate is highly subjective to say the least, but we should also get ready to hear a lot about the social cost of carbon as Biden's environmental proposals take shape. (Biden's $3 trillion infrastructure bill spends $1 trillion on climate change.) They're invoking the support of libertarian capitalism for this!
"It is the SCC that girds the arguments for carbon-mitigation policies that tend to attract right-of-center economists and policy analysts. The concept ostensibly facilitates our evaluation of climate damages and enables us to assess policies in a cost-benefit framework. Putting on hold analytical disagreements over utility comparisons and normative disagreements over discounting, the work of Nordhaus and others such as Richard Tol on the SCC has even convinced some libertarians of the importance of internalizing the costs our actions might impose on others.
In the right-of-center case for carbon-mitigation policies, the SCC is the tool that lets us see into the future, approximate the damage emissions will cause, and factor the cost of that damage into our decision-making today. The most attractive approach to those right of center is typically to invoke the work of A.C. Pigou and apply a “Pigovian” carbon tax that bakes climate costs into our everyday economic choices."

https://news.yahoo.com/biden-administration-climate-cost-problem-103055202.html
They're using market rhetoric to justify the Biden administration and the government arbitrarily imposing its own qualitative cost estimates to society on the market, which is not libertarian market capitalism at all.
I've long argued that I would absolutely support and defend a carbon tax IF IF IF and only IF the government were to reduce other more harmful forms of taxation to the same extent at the same time--like reducing taxes on income, capital gains, and corporate profits.
The only real justification for the level at which progressives steal our money and redistribute it is that they want more of our money so Congress should take more. So long as that's their justification, we need to offset the progressives' theft of more of our seed corn for climate change by getting them to stop stealing other seed corn because we earned it as income, capital gains, or as profits.
In fact, it would be better if they taxed us based on actual social costs rather than because they simply hate entrepreneurs, high wage earners, businesses, corporations, and profits--but that isn't what the Biden administration is proposing to do. They want to justify putting a huge carbon tax on the economy--in addition to--what the government already steals. And the rate they're charging isn't based on any market driven consideration at its heart, really.
A direct analogy to this would be the progressive embrace of UBI. The understanding of UBI as a libertarian tool is that it's a transition to a more libertarian and capitalist world if the government dumps all of those social welfare programs and turns welfare queens into market participants making tough decisions about trade offs for themselves. The underlying assumption for libertarian capitalist UBI, however, is that the government shuts down all the welfare programs when it institutes UBI. Without cutting and shutting down the welfare programs, introducing UBI isn't libertarian or capitalist. It's disgusting socialist wealth redistribution. Meanwhile, the socialists are claiming that UBI was the libertarians' idea?! Don't believe the hype.
They're stealing our marketing terms and doing a bait and switch--not implementing our policies. Socialist wealth redistribution is socialist wealth redistribution regardless of whether you call it UBI, and the Biden administration and the progressives are doing the same thing with the social cost of carbon (SCC). In short, what they're doing is not really market based, not libertarian or capitalist, and should be opposed by all libertarian capitalists, especially those of us who agree that climate change is a real problem--that needs to be address by market capitalism.
"The Biden administration has preliminarily set the “social cost of carbon” (SCC) at $51 per ton. We should expect that number to rise in the future as setting the costs of carbon and its impact on climate is highly subjective to say the least..."
Great! When are we sending the bill to China? The country that generates more electricity through burning coal, than the United States generates through all sources.
What's that got to do will establishing feudalism in the US?
China and India have more coal plants under construction than we could possibly decommission. This map is jaw dropping:
https://www.carbonbrief.org/mapped-worlds-coal-power-plants
Slide it out to the right to see those under construction.
One thing we should all agree on--there are only four possible outcomes.
1) The government doesn't force us to do anything, and the costs of climate change to our standard of living are negligible.
2) The government doesn't force us to do anything, and the costs of climate change to our standard of living are substantial.
3) The government forces us to sacrifice our standard of living, and the costs of climate change to our standard of living is negligible.
4) The government forces us to sacrifice our standard of living, and the costs of climate change to our standard of living is substantial.
We may argue about which outcome is most likely, and we may even argue about the desirability of some outcomes relative to the others, but the one thing we should all agree on is this: The worst possible outcome is the one where the government forces us to sacrifice our standard of living, but the costs of climate change are just as bad anyway! The worst outcome of the cost/benefit analysis is the one where we have the most costs and the least benefits.
And when we look at what China and India are doing--with more coal plants under construction around the world than we could possibly decommission--it becomes clear that the progressives are leading us to the worst possible outcome. Biden's plan to eliminate all carbon emissions from power generation in 14 years is absurd--if China and India are building more carbon emitting power plants over that period than we can possibly decommission.
And if anybody thinks China is about to play ball with us and make genuine sacrifices in their economy so that American consumers don't need to crimp our discretionary spending--because of the magnificence of Biden's non-Trump like personality--they're delusional.
“has even convinced some libertarians of the importance of internalizing the costs our actions might impose on others.”
But only the kind of libertarians that believe unarmed protesters on public property should be shot in the face, right?
Again, I can buy the argument for, say, taxing based on how much in the way of chemicals a company dumps in a river. It really is far better to tax something that has a cost for society than it is to tax (and discourage things) that are good for society.
The idea that we owe the government some of our income because we earned it is ludicrous, destructive, and unjust. If we can use a better tax to get rid of an awful one, that's a good thing. Taxing things that have a cost on society instead of stealing wealth and redistributing it like a socialist is a good libertarian capitalist idea.
It's just that the progressives and the Biden administration have no intention of cutting other far more harmful taxes. If the Biden administration and the progressives wanted to get rid of the corporate tax and the income tax entirely, I'd be on board for that.
They aren't anywhere near that; in fact, they want to raise socialist taxes like taxes on income and profits.
"...but we should also get ready to hear a lot about the social cost of carbon as Biden’s environmental proposals take shape..."
And it will be stated as a 'fact', much as '25% of the children are hungry'.
I'm against all Carbon taxes because its all BS and not linkable to Climate change without a 10 fold increase in carbon output in a short time span and i'm talking a couple of years not decades.
Just gonna leave this here

By the way, the Suez Canal is blocked
It was. AIUI, they moved the ship to where it's parallel to the Canal now---though still aground---and not perpendicular like it was. https://i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article23784127.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_Suez-canal-blocked-by-huge-cargo-ship-as-every-tugboat-in-Egypt-scrambled-to-help.jpg
The Austin Powers gif floating around, with the Evergreen ship superimposed on the electric cart, was pretty funny.
How the hell did they get it moved at all?
Damn thing is half a billion pounds
I'm pretty sure it floats.
Really, from the pics I saw, they dug sand out near where it ran aground, then used tugboats to push it up against the edge.
Even if it had sunk there, patching steel underwater and refloating (pumping water out) is something the Navy does every day.
In 'Axis And Allies' it is easily crossed

Wokeism is infesting every aspect of our society and it has no interest in anything but totalitarian domination. I don't want my kids anywhere near it but that has become increasingly difficult to manage. Thankfully, I live in a conservative bastion but the infection is spreading
We all know that what is needed is to retake the culture and infuse the ideals of the Founding Fathers back into the veins of this country. Education, entertainment, the media, corporations, govt - they all need purged of woke ideology. But is that even possible at this point?
Bottom line is we cannot coexist with Wokeism. So we need to figure out what we're going to do about it. Complaining about it isn't going to do anything by itself. We need a nationwide action plan
Step 1: Never apologize
Step 2: Tell them to fuck off
Repeat as necessary.
Classy.

Pretty telling that you posted that one rather than this:
"'This is America!' Man calls Asian-American woman an 'ugly-a** ch*nk' after she asks him to put on his face mask on a Miami bus
When Lai tells the man that he 'does not need to be racist', he snaps back: 'F**k you!'
Later in the clip, he splutters: 'I don't care about you peoples, man. Go to hell, dog. This America, Jap!'
'I'm from America! I was born here!' Lai can then be heard responding, appearing to make the man more enraged.
He then proceeds to put his middle finger up to the camera and states: 'Smile for this ch*nk!' "
There's also the 75 year old guy in England who was physically attacked and had someone empty his shopping basket while another held him against the shelves for not wearing a mask
It’s so terrible because a black person was involved.

FBI knew Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa was a threat, he was convicted of assault, CO has every background check + red flag law Democrats want. He was still able to buy a gun. Gun control won’t work. More people carrying will. You get peace through strength, not by disarming good people.
Gun control won’t work. More people carrying will.
I agree that more gun laws won't do much if anything to stop gun violence. Primarily because the public will not stomach the more draconian things that Team Blue is proposing. But I am not certain that the public at large will stomach the idea that we all should be packing heat if we just want to go about our daily lives shopping at the grocery store or going to a movie.
As long as you let the left maintain the focus on violence, you are aiding them.
The unconstitutionality of gun control should be the only response to any gun control laws.
Do you have to get an expensive permit for ANY other right guaranteed by the constitution?
What are we supposed to do? Ignore gun violence?
What are we supposed to do? Ignore gun violence?
chemtard simping for his lefty boos again.
You're just as likely to die in a drunk driving wreck as you are to be killed by someone with a firearm. Deaths from alcohol-related causes are twice the number of total gun deaths. Should we stop "ignoring" those deaths and pass more laws restricting alcohol sales and use?
You are the one with the false dilemma. I specifically wrote:
I agree that more gun laws won’t do much if anything to stop gun violence.
Is that not enough?
Because gun laws won't be effective in stopping the problem of gun violence, doesn't mean that gun violence isn't a problem.

Nice false dilemma. We can either ignore it or use armed government agents to infringe the rights of the people. It is less than unsurprising that is what you came up with.
Please explain where the government derives either the moral or constitutional authority to prevent individuals from exercising their natural right to self defense by whatever means they choose.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/capitol-riot-suspects-ramped-donations-trump-after-his-election-defeat-n1261431
"I think, quite simply, it shows the effectiveness of Trump's messaging in the weeks leading up to the election and then how much his stolen election lie resonated with his base after the election," said Kurt Braddock, an assistant professor of public communication at American University and a fellow at its Polarization and Extremism Research and Innovation Lab. "Trump sold the idea to his followers that not only was the election stolen, but also that it was up to his constituents to help make things 'right.'"
John Horgan, who runs the Violent Extremism Research Group at Georgia State University, said he found the increase in contributions to be "unsurprising," partly because Trump had primed supporters for months.
"Trump successfully convinced many of his followers that unless they acted, and acted fast, their very way of life was about to come to an end," Horgan said. "He presented a catastrophic scenario whereby if the election was — for him — lost, his followers would suffer as a result. He made action not just imperative, but urgent, convincing his followers that they needed to do everything they could now, rather than later, to prevent the 'enemy' from claiming victory."
See, this is the real problem here. The messaging, from both sides, that if the other team wins, it is not just that we will have bad policies (from their point of view), but that OMG THE REPUBLIC WILL DIE or somesuch. It is the utter catatstrophization of the possibility of the other team winning. This is where we need more responsible leaders in charge to knock it off with the whole "if they win, the Republic is doomed" nonsense. This is also where we need more responsible *voters* who don't fall for such obvious demagoguery.

Jeff when the UK spews out garbage on the virus from the start and keeps using the same worthless folks to spread more. Whether this is news we should be concerned with (I won't try to dispute the above) doesn't matter anymore we don't care there's been too many lies.
Got my first dose of vaccine yesterday!
Nobody cares Dee.
There's a word for that:

This is simply not true, but when you’re Woke you can spread misinformation here on Twitter dot com with total impunity.
When I voted I tried to show the woman my ID she told me to put it away. Bought a gun around the same time, it took over a month.
"@davidhogg111
It should not be easier to buy an AR-15 than it is to vote."
But in some places, it is. To buy a gun, in some places, you walk into a store, you show your ID, you fill out a few forms, you pay your money, you get your gun. To vote, in some places, you must wait in line for hours and hours. Maybe Mr. Rubin had a different experience, fine. But his experiences are not universal for everyone. This reminds me of the last time voter security was brought up here. When I pointed out that if Team Red was going to make voting in ways other than in-person voting harder, then they should devote more resources to make sure that the in-person voting experience goes more smoothly. I was deluged with responses along the lines of, "well, when *I* voted in person, there were no problems, so what is the big deal anyway???" Your personal experience is not universal and does not correspond to everyone else's personal experience. It has nothing to do with "being Woke".
To buy a gun, in some places, you walk into a store, you show your ID, you fill out a few forms, you pay your money, you get your gun.
I would support voting exactly as quick as buying this gun "in some places" if, the process of that vote constituted a background check and verification of ID and eligibility, like it does during that process of "filling out a few forms".
You're confusing efficiency and ease with 'no barriers or verification'.
A vote, being one of the most potentially violent acts someone can exact upon their fellow citizens, I would totally support common sense voting reforms which included both rigorous identification verification, a background check, and in some circumstances a 7 day waiting period.
I would support voting exactly as quick as buying this gun “in some places” if, the process of that vote constituted a background check and verification of ID and eligibility, like it does during that process of “filling out a few forms”.
I agree. It should be simple and painless and rapid.
I agree on that too.
"To vote, in some places, you must wait in line for hours and hours."
That implies a failure in local logistics, it's entirely possible to show your ID in just a few seconds.
It’s worrisome that a rage-filled person like Nardz passed the background check to purchase a firearm.
My bad. This is the thing Nardz and others do where they quote from Twitter, but don’t use any quotation marks or other indication they are quoting someone else.
Well you had problems with quotation marks in the past...

JUST IN: Democrats Senators Tammy Duckworth (IL) and Mazie Hirono (HI) say they will vote against all Biden nominees who are not "racial minorities"
They say they will only vote for a white nominee if the nominee is LGBTQ
So democrats are racist? Not news to anyone.
There's a word for that but I can't put my finger on it :/
In case anyone hasn’t been paying attention, Democrats are allowed to be racist.
"Support was lowest among white evangelical Protestants: 43 percent."
This might be the most amazing static, because while not a majority that number is very high for a group that has been so hard line in opposition. What is more I will guess that a majority of the 43% is young. That means this number will only go up in time.
Big social changes come with the death of the older generations.
As much as I’m an old dude personally uncomfortable with concepts like gender fluidity, and certainly oppose attempts to push the concepts via government, I have to admit that maybe there’s an element of being an old fart in my opposition.
"that has been so hard line in opposition"
Actually they haven't when compared to Blacks, Hispanics, Muslims, Bahais and most groups of Buddhists, but attacking those classes didn't help the narrative, and movements need a big-bad enemy....
None of those classes exercise the political power that white evangelicals do in this country. Tell me this when was the last time Buddhist's political concerns got attention?

<blockquoteThe hibernation of democracy
A year of lockdown has had dire consequences for liberty and public life.
For a year we have been living through one of the most extraordinary events of modern times: the hibernation of democracy. The suspension of public life. The adjournment of politics itself. This has been the most dire consequence of lockdown. We have witnessed the outsourcing of decision-making to non-political actors, the withering away of political opposition and political debate, and the decommissioning of the public itself. Stay at home, watch the news for Covid updates, and don’t breathe on, far less talk to, another human soul. That has been the instruction to the demos for the past year. The impact of all of this on the spirit and practice of democracy is likely to be long-lasting.
Well, this should be interesting to see how this turns out.
https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-union-alabama-workers-describe-anti-union-tactics-bessemer-2021-3
What I've read about working conditions at Amazon warehouses are that they are not great. The pay is above average, but workers are fined or disciplined for things like being a mite too slow in putting stuff into boxes, or going to the bathroom once too often. If Amazon loses the union vote, it will be because of piddling rules enforcement like this.
See, it's stuff like this.
Highsmith told Insider that she liked her job, but, like Richardson, she sees problems inside the warehouse. For example, while she's patrolling, waiting for robots to be fixed, she's not allowed to sit down or lean against the wall, she said.
She said workers get unfairly punished for taking "time off task." Time off task is the term Amazon uses for the time workers spend away from their workstations. Workers are allowed only a certain amount of time off task, but they are not told how much they have accrued, or how close they are to getting a write-up, Highsmith said.
"You have no way of knowing — only the process assistants and managers are the people with access to those metrics and can see your time off task," she said, adding that managers can edit an employee's time off task at their discretion.
If Amazon loses, it will be because of enforcement of silly rules, like "you can't sit down even if you have nothing to do", or "you can't be 'off task' by too much, but we won't tell you what precisely is 'too much'", like this.
So they are treated like twitter customers?
You can't post bad things; but we won't tell you what things are bad until after you post them.
Yeah, except it’s not the same at all, because in one case we are talking about someone trying to earn a living and in the other we are talking about someone engaging in the slightly silly pastime of pairing little 280-character messages to a website so other people can read them while sitting on the toilet.
pairing -> posting
Kind of works either way - - - - - -

I'm going to laugh when they vote to unionize and Amazon closes that facility
And moves it to somewhere that gives them a bunch of tax breaks and cash, right?

I don't see how there is anything particularly 'woke' about that. They are basically describing using anecdotes over data for decision-making. That is not a 'woke' thing, that is a human thing. We see that over and over again on all sides. Try telling someone on Team Blue that cops don't actually murder Black people disproportionately more than whites, and you will get 5 anecdotes in return about how some cop hassled some Black guy. Try telling someone on Team Red that statistically immigrants are not horrible people and contribute to society, and you will get 5 anecdotes in return about some MS-13 gangbanger doing something horrible.
All experience is lived experience. I mean, sheesh. Right off the bat I have an issue with that phrase. Everyone has their own lived experiences. You had a hard life, I had a hard life, that guy over there didn't have a hard life. So what? Your lived experiences don't give you the right to run the lives of other people.
And the wokes don't even mean it. The last ting wokes want is to let people go off and life their own experiences. To them the phrase is just there to shut down conversations. Because woke is a religion full of meaningless platitudes.
Why is Mike Masnick being used for the discussion on the anthem isn't there someone better then a techwriter to reference a twitter quote? Literally 1000's of blue checks if that's what you want to use?
They support government allowing gay marriage, great. Now how many of them favor making marriage none of governments business in the first place?
It seems this is really only an issue because the government bestows special tax status and other legal benefits upon married couples. Remove this and allow the states to work out where these liens should be.
Do they support Same-Sex Marriage? Are they in favor of it? Or do they just not give a crap what people do, like most of us?
>>judges also struggled to figure out where to draw the line as to when police need a warrant for their high-tech surveillance
start the bidding at always, and never budge.
I was assured in 2012 that this would spell the doom of civilization. Oh well, Bush got re-elected, that's what matters.
It must feel pretty shitty to be a victim of their hateful culture war politics. Who do we scapegoat once trans people are considered fully human? We gonna stick with Asians for a while?
What's the weather like on your planet?
Stupid headline of the day:
(yahoo news, via drudge report).
Florida isn't seeing any uptick in COVID cases, even with South Florida running amok with Spring Breakers. Not on Florida's own reporting, not on CDC website, not on the Google. So, why the stupid headline? It's like they aren't even pretending they aren't making shit up.
Two weeks of rising cases among young people in Florida.
I don't understand what argument you're trying to advance. Do you have some new information about how this virus spreads?
Cite?

As long as they're not fatasses, they won't have much to worry about other than the sniffles.
Support gay marriage or be canceled.
Polls show support for gay marriage is increasing.
Remember that law that arrested people for poking butt-holes and licking twat?
Ya; Me neither. It's all about the Power to be Entitled over others. Next year it'll be a 'subsidizing' the butt-pokers. Or; oh wait - wasn't that included in the $1.9T bill?
Makes a lot of sense for gays to embrace the GOP, especially now that the democrats want to take their money to subsidize child care for the breeders, and take away their guns so they can’t protect themselves from violent homophobes, who coincidentally tend to be Democrats. Oh and all those pretty boy Brooks Brother clad country club Republicans are so yummy.
I supported same sex marriage for a long time because it was not fair that they did not have to go through divorce.
Douglas Hyde, a prominent British communist in the middle of the last century, and his wife, also a committed communist, converted to Christianity partly because, as parents of a little girl, they found the Christian image of a family so attractive.
And that highlights a major problem in the world today: the breakdown of the traditional nuclear family.
The Utah law is kind of a weird one, and also extremely poorly thought out (Or, would have been if the gov was actually serious about it rather than just trying to look "tough on sin").
(1). So, this law only applies to phones? Laptops and tablets are fine then? What about those hybrid devices halfway between a laptop and tablet, like in that commercial with that guy in airport security arguing if his device was a laptop.
(2). Ok, so what's a "filter" anyway. I am assuming they're talking about one for the app store (however you define that). But, if you get a 3rd party browsing app, ie chrome or opera this law won't apply to them.
(3). So, this law will take effect if 5 other states pass "similar" laws. Who defines that's. Oh boy, lawyers on both sides are going to make bank. I am guessing Utah will define it as narrowly as possible so to keep the law from actually going into effect, while simontainlously saying how sinful the other states are for not going far enough.
(4). I am sure there's a crony capitalism angle here somewhere. A filter company that donated money to the governor's campaign will be on the approved list to meet your minimum criteria.
Gay marriage is ridiculous since gay couples cannot procreate. But marriage as an institution is a sham so why not?
It's a shady scam and deceitful way to change years of law that were written for entirely different purposes by changing word definitions instead of re-addressing the laws themselves.
Especially in today's [WE] mob *entitlement* clans. It's as stupid and ridiculous as it would be for families to start busting up singles clubs out of some pathetic *entitle-me excuse* of being a minority. The new era of "feelings-over-reason" laws.
Rand Paul addressed this perfectly, "I don't want my marriage or my guns registered in Washington."
But wuldn't that logic invalidate the marriages of heterosexual couples who are voluntarily childfree or involuntarily childless by medical conditions such as testicular cancer, ovular cancer, menopause, etc., or even heterosexual marriages where the children have grown up? Will the Jackbooted Marriage Thugs raid the Geritol Commercial set when the old duffer says: " My wife...I think I'll keep her?"
So when are you going to come out of the closet as a lipstick lesbian?
