Texas Medical Board Clears Houston Doctor Accused of 'Stealing' COVID Vaccine Doses He Wouldn't Let Go to Waste
Hasan Gokal tracked down people to receive doses that were about to expire. For that, he was fired and threatened with prosecution.

The Houston-area doctor who was unfairly fired—and threatened with prosecution—for refusing to let a vial of COVID-19 vaccine go to waste has finally been vindicated.
In January, Dr. Hasan Gokal briefly became national news when he was fired from his medical work with Harris County, Texas, and Kim Ogg, the county's district attorney, publicly announced plans to charge him with theft. Ogg initially characterized Gokal as having stolen a vial of the Moderna vaccine in order to give injections to his wife and others.
But Ogg's initial charges were thrown out by a judge after the facts became more clear: Gokal had in reality done the best he could to find people to inject before the doses expired after the conclusion of a vaccination event. His wife was the last person he injected, minutes before the final dose was set to expire. And Gokal says he had informed county health officials of what he was doing all along.
On Monday, the Houston Chronicle reported that the Texas Medical Board finally cleared the doctor of any wrongdoing:
The board said there was insufficient evidence to prove that Dr. Hasan Gokal had violated the Medical Practice Act. The board stated there was neither a patient waiting list nor established protocols for how to handle unused doses on Dec. 29, the day the former Harris County Public Health employee supervised a vaccination site in Humble.
"The investigation determined that Dr. Gokal appeared to have administered doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to patients that were properly consented, in the eligible category, and they were given doses that would have otherwise been wasted," the board said.
Remarkably, Ogg's office still hasn't given up on the possibility of sending the case to a grand jury to try to get Gokal indicted, according to the Chronicle.
But Gokal is one of many who has run afoul of government bureaucrats who have decided that their own authority—and people following the rules they've set—is more important than competent management of a crisis. Gokal made the right choice when he prioritized getting shots in arms instead of allowing precious vaccine doses to be wasted.
So where does Gokal go to get his reputation back? A search of his name quickly brings up those headlines from January when he was accused of theft. That's all on Ogg's office for rushing to make an example out of him and on the Harris County health officials who abruptly fired him.

Why does Ogg's name sound so familiar? Maybe I'm wrong but I think I remember her as a standout as far as prosecutors go and not in a good way.
A music encoding format?
She's pushing the murder charges against the Houston cops that did the drug raid that killed Rogena Nichols and Dennis Tuttle on 1/28/19. Big plus in my book.
Yes, that might be it. Although I'll have to do some digging because my memory has her as accepting for too long what HPD was doing before being forced to address it.
it *is* Houston ....

Democrat ran in an otherwise well ran state.
She was one of the new wave of more progressive / reform-minded prosecutors that were voted in in 2016 - 2018 in many cities. On the Tuttle / Nicholas case, she's doing a pretty good job of trying to suss out the core of the corruption, vacating convictions that are decades old, etc.

According to my average type neighbors, "that guy" (Gokal) was a selfish thief who stole the precious vaccine to use for himself and his family. Any chance they will ever encounter this retraction?
Why would they? Somebody told me, just yesterday, that the Capitol Hill cop had been beaten to death with a fire extinguisher. Truth seldom ever catch up to the lies.
The Washington Post’s comments on the original story were full of people saying the same thing. They were, like most Post commenters, Liberals. It’s amazing how little it takes to generate hate from Liberals.
It wouldn’t be a proper government run program if there isn’t any waste.
Number one rule of government spending. Always buy 2 when 1 will do.
Dear DA Ogg,
Please die in a grease fire.

dude's reputation for trying to help the sick will overshadow the curse of ogg.
"Hasan Gokal tracked down people to receive doses that were about to expire. For that, he was fired and threatened with prosecution."
Want something screwed up? Turn it over to the government.
I don't know what is scarier. A government bureaucrat making arbitrary and capricious decisions; or that this matter had to go to the top of the Medical Board. This doctor made the correct call, medically, morally and ethically.
That he was persecuted like this is amazing. Here, in America?
In Democrat Kim Ogg, the county's district attorney's office they will not put up with morally and ethical actions from anyone. The good doctor is no exception.
I'm not sure I'd want a shot from a vial minutes away from expiring. LOL.

And you think you still live in a free country. No, this country is one of an insane dictatorship.
The worst part is it went to the medical board. That could have ended his career. It is not like a court where you can defend yourself.
It looks like this was a side gig with the health department probably just trying to help out. He is an ED doc with multiple hospitals.
Brian Sicknick died of an overdose of TOO MUCH LOVE (too many hugs, kisses, and fond wishes) from “law and order” “Blue Lives Matter” Republican Patriotic, peacefully protesting, law-abiding citizens at the Capitol, on 6 January 2021! Alex Jones told me so!
Eugene Volokh has just started a series on what happens to people who won't, or can't, correct published libel. Not strictly applicable here, but interestingly similar. What happens when the reporter works elsewhere and can't correct or retract the story and the publisher doesn't care -- that sort of thing.
>>LMAOs ... ran with a stupid ... narrative
several authors also.
I like "LMAOs". I was thinking NINNIES, however. That would be Neofeudalist Imbeciles and Nattering Nincompoops Ignorantly Espousing Socialism.
He very likely WAS killed. It is very unlikely he just happened to die by coincidence after battling MAGA rioters.
flag, refresh. So much nicer without the 'tard.
I guess you missed the other hundreds of thousands that didn't join in and were fighting with the violent ones screaming they were antifa? Never mind. The truth is probably too much once you close your mind and have filled it with propaganda.
I mean Geiger has proved over and over in these comments he really cares about police officers and law and order.
That’s why he compared Sicknick’s death to Hitler’s.
Intention is absolutely a factor. There is clear intention to greatly injure or kill someone by "bashing them with a fire extinguisher". Spraying pepper spray is assault but is not intent to kill (murder). So there is a very large difference. I can throw a snowball and annoy someone. Or I can throw a snowball and cause the person to fall an hit there temple on a rock. My actions are intentions are the same, the outcome doesn't change that. There are plenty of real crimes to charge people with, we don't need to inflate them.
Such concrete hard logic. My wife died exactly ten days before her 45th birthday. It is very unlikely that was a coincidence. Idiot.
But people who died or miscarried shortly after their vaccine dose, just coincidence...
Thought that was Blackman?
John Earle Sullivan was charged by complaint with one count of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, one count of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, and one count of interfering with law enforcement engaged in the lawful performance of their official duties incident to and during the commission of civil disorder. The Complaint alleges that during the events at the U.S. Capitol, Sullivan, wearing a ballistics vest and gas mask, entered the U.S. Capitol through a window that had been broken out, pushing past U.S. Capitol Police once inside. The Complaint also alleges that Sullivan admits to filming and being depicted in video footage that shows him present, outside of the Speaker’s Lobby within the U.S. Capitol, at the shooting of a woman by a U.S. Capitol Police officer.
The man showed up at a peaceful protest with ballistic vest and gas mask and a camera crew to "document" his activities? Who needs that stuff at a peaceful protest?
"PolitiFact reviewed Sullivan’s video of the mob into the Capitol and Babbitt’s shooting. It doesn’t show Sullivan clearly engaged in the violence or leading the run up to the Capitol, although it does show him animated as he spoke with police and rioters from the frontlines.
"At points in the video, Sullivan can be heard telling others he was only filming and discouraging violence. At other points, he appeared to encourage what was happening. As rioters scaled a wall outside, for example, he cheered them on. "We did this s---, together," he said after the barricades came down. "This is f------ history. We’re all a part of this f------ history."
"Let’s burn this s--- down," Sullivan can be heard saying on the video before heading inside.
Social media users have linked Sullivan to antifa and Black Lives Matter because of his past protest history and social media activity. His Twitter accounts have frequently used #antifa, #blm, and other anti-Trump or anti-police hashtags, PolitiFact found. The cover photo for one of his accounts advertised a Jan. 6 Insurgence USA event to "Kick These Fascists Out of DC."
Sullivan has also been filmed using incendiary language in the past. At a small August rally in Washington, D.C., he described the need to "rip" Trump out of office, according to Fox News. Photos highlighted on his personal website show him holding a firearm.
[Former CNN documentary filmlmaker Jade] Sacker [who, with Sullivan, entered the Capitol with the "rioters" said she has followed Sullivan for four months and accompanied him to many protests, including some affiliated with Black Lives Matter. He is not pro-Trump, she said, but he cares about "dismantling the system." She said she had not personally seen him be violent.
