Biden Says His Immigration Policy Will Be Better Than Obama's
President Barack Obama's government deported more people than any other administration in history.

"We made a mistake," Joe Biden said of his former boss's immigration policies during the final presidential debate in October 2020. "It took too long to get it right. I'll be president of the United States, not vice president of the United States."
While Donald Trump may have implemented the most cruel and aggressively anti-immigration policy of any modern president, his predecessor's record was nothing to brag about either. President Barack Obama's government deported more people than any other administration in history, enlisted local police departments to assist the feds in carrying out immigration raids, and built the chain-link holding pens that became the defining image of Trump's inhumane "zero tolerance" family separation policy. Restoring some semblance of mercy to U.S. immigration policy won't be easy.
Obama used an executive order, rather than working with a divided Congress, to create the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which shielded residents who came to the U.S. as children from deportation. Trump rescinded that order while using the same unilateral approach to implement more than 400 other immigration policy changes, according to a November report from the Migration Policy Institute. He slashed refugee pathways, forced asylum seekers to "remain in Mexico" while their cases were processed, and allowed the Justice Department to prosecute good Samaritans as criminals for providing food, water, and shelter to immigrants crossing the most dangerous section of the U.S.-Mexico border.
What can President Joe Biden do to improve this mess? He has said he will reinstate DACA, deprioritize deportations of immigrants without criminal records, and allow asylum applicants to enter the U.S. while they await hearings. He says much of that will happen in his first six months. But immigration policy experts are skeptical that Biden can quickly or easily undo Trump's handiwork, let alone fix the larger system.
"The majority of the Trump administration immigration reforms will be difficult to address immediately," Leon Fresco, an immigration attorney who worked in the Obama administration, told Politico in December, "either because of legal rule-making barriers, practical realities on the ground, or a lack of bandwidth given how many priorities the Biden administration has in contrast to the singular focus on immigration" that the Trump administration had.
Another obstacle is the COVID-19 pandemic, which the Trump administration cited to justify further restricting immigration. While the ongoing crisis has bought Biden a bit of time to calculate how he will handle a post-pandemic influx of immigrants, it's unclear whether he will continue to prosecute border crossings as criminal offenses, as both Obama and Trump did.

Let us hope Joe Biden is a kind and benevolent ruler and doesn't issue too many retributive decrees. Perhaps he will increase the chocolate ration after he abolishes Congress since they are merely anachronistic relics of a bygone era.
"Immigration Policy Will Be Better"
Where "better" means "more billionaire-friendly." That's crucial for us Koch / Reason libertarians, since our philosophy's primary objective is to make our benefactor Charles Koch even richer. And Mr. Koch needs highly-skilled imported labor (especially from Mexico) in order to regain his status as one of the planet's top 10 richest people.

The new administration nixes a change that would have allowed more physicians to prescribe buprenorphine. The Trump Administration didn't attempt either approach to justify it's guidelines, but argued HHS has the authority to "eliminate the requirement QCez that physicians with a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration number apply for a separate waiver to prescribe buprenorphine for opioid use disorder treatment," which would effectively cover almost all practicing physicians in the U.S..……..MORE READ

This does not compute.
Trump wanted to make legal immigration illegal. Hence "anti-immigration policy".
Trump's goal was to force the Congress to act on immigration and come up with a better policy than show up at the center, ask for asylum and be released. Also to define the DACA program and come up with a solution for that mess too. Neither happened and now we return to the way things were.
The Democrat Party is assembling its next voting block as it sees the black vote, which they have used and abused for generations, finally gaining some steam to leave. Notice no real policy for the black community in the wave of EOs Uncle Joe rolled through.
Presidents are administrators, thus overstep by trying to legislate from the WH. Congress can’t get out of its own way and create a legal immigration policy. WTF !!!
Immigration is beneficial to the US, but open borders does not not feel safe.
Yes but I believe Trump's goal was to overstep to such a degree as to force Congress to do it's job and legislate a policy on immigration. People were uncomfortable with images of children in lockup. Mexico got a taste of what NM, TX, AZ and CA have been dealing with for years. With an opportunity to affect change Congress did nothing because they are useless these days for anything other than creating a crisis to exploit said crisis until the next election cycle. Now we are back to the same crappy open border policy that existed before.
“Our main finding was that available empirical evidence did not support a causal or correlative link between Super Bowls and sex trafficking,” said study co-author Lauren Martin, an associate professor at Minnesota, in a 2019 news release >>>>>>> USA ONLINE JOBS <<<<<<<<<
Trump wanted what polls say most Americans want; fewer legal immigrants and a halt to illegal immigration.
He never advocated making legal immigration illegal.
That's just another lefty lie.

Better than Obama’s .
Pretty low bar there.
Looking at outcomes is not going to do anything. What we need is a better sensible process to legal residency and citizenship. First priority should be people already here.
Better than Obama, but not as good as trumps
"First priority should be people already here"
Oh, so the criminally intended gets first priority?
Already here is growing every single day.
FACT - The reason there are problem's at the border is the Criminal Trespasser's Sympathizers.
As someone else pointed out 'does not compute' why Obama deported more but Trump was harder on immigration. Obama started his Administration by "flaking" immigration law and thus ended up with unbelievable amount of it; remember sanctuary cities? Trump never "flaked" immigration law; there wasn't immigration in INVASION amount of numbers.
You can only say 0blama deported more by changing the definition of deported.
What used to be called "apprehended at the border and stopped" was called deportation by the 0blama administration and echoed by the sycophantic media.

Poor Commies at unreason. Still lying and still nothing to back up their lies to even make them half-truths.
Luckily, Trump was the best and last President the United States of America had before Civil War 2.0. After the Democrats are defeated like they were in Civil war 1.0, we will have Reconstruction 2.0 to roll back thousands of Commie policies.
We need to shut down the entire country because of Covid, and open the border because of racism.
That's what I've been saying for months!

Everyone knows the purpose of a government is to control the people, who are racist, selfish, and stupid. Govt is good; they have devoted themselves to "public service". Govt is smart; they are the credentialed experts. Experts who have devoted themselves to public service. Bow down and obey the unFree minds and unFree markets.
Fuck off, Reason.
"Americans last!"
May the Lord keep you and protect you. Just be careful who exactly proclaims themselves Lord over you.
Our Constitution is not a living and breathing document which allows us to keep living and breathing. The Lords of government threaten our living and breathing.

"Obama used an executive order, rather than working with a divided Congress, to create the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program
This was is an unconstitutional breach of the separation of powers and something every libertarian should oppose for that reason--like an unconstitutional war.
Not only that, but at the height of the asylum seeker crisis, 80% of the asylum seekers were either children or families traveling with children--strongly suggesting that, in addition to Obama's actions here being unconstitutional, they were also the ultimate cause of the asylum crisis.
At the time of DACA circa 2012, we only had a few hundred asylum claims from northern triangle countries every year and few of them were children. Those asylum claims exploded post DACA until at the height of the crisis, there were hundreds of thousands a month--and 80% children or families traveling with children?
Only progressives are stupid enough to believe that promising not to deport people who come here as children encourages them to come here as children.
"Only progressives are stupid enough to believe that promising not to deport people who come here as children [doesn't] encourage them to come here as children."
----Ken Shultz
Fixed!
So children make the choice to come here and should be held accountable to the same standards as adults?
The adults who set policy should consider the obvious consequences of their polices--both before those consequences have materialized and certainly afterwards.
If the consequences of giving a blanket exemption to children wasn't obvious before, isn't it obvious now? And yet what did Biden just do with DACA?
Illegal aliens should be deported at once (PERIOD)... No flappy jabber jaw about it... If you're not on the parties invite list the door is THAT WAY!
Children can't make the choice to break our laws while they are children.
But once they reach their majority, the continued law-breaking is on their heads.
If the DACAsses had any honor, they'd leave as soon as they got old enough...and take their criminal parents with them.
Crossing the border, illegally is not the only illegal act. It is an ongoing crime.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea that the government can just deport immigrants. They immigrated here, didn't they? How can the government just unilaterally revoke their immigration status like that? It's not like they illegally immigrated here - if they were illegal immigrants I'm sure Binion would have been sure to delineate the difference between legal and illegal immigration, wouldn't he? It's not like any reputable journalist would be trying to pull a fast one by failing to make the distinction.
Reputable journalists are as rare as hen's teeth.
Most Progressives live in their heads, looking at the world as they want it to be.
World poverty is in the decline - people whose view of the world around them was limited to walking distance are becoming rare. While peasants in Guatemala had to walk ten miles to a post office with telephone connection in the 1970s, almost every family now has a cell phone, which they use to keep in touch with relatives in the US and which makes them aware of relative wages, routes to the border, how to get in touch with a coyote, and how much it will cost. They know how to apply for asylum and what to say when doing so. Catch and release is well understood.
With this spread of useful knowledge comes the increase in capital to fund travel.
There are 9 billion people in the word. Probably no more than ten per cent would ever plan on coming to the US and have the knowledge and means to get there, so Joe will only have to deal with 900 million.
It is the 21st century American Dream.
Everything Biden does will be better than Obama. Biden got more votes than any presidential candidate in the history of elections. He's more beloved by the Democratic party than any other DNC candidate in the history of time. So... logically...
" . . . Biden got more votes than any presidential candidate in the history of elections."
But more people vote for him, or not?
The people that count the votes say he did...no matter how improbable those counts are.
This article is revisionist bullshit. Reason never said anything about Trump continuing Obama's immigration policies. They put it all on Trump. The only mention of this was in the comments by wise Trump supporters who now rightfully point out that Reason hated Trump and wanted Biden in the White House because they're not true libertarians like Trump supporters who hate immigrants and free trade. Jeez.
In fact, if you look through the archives, Reason said ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AT ALL about immigration until Jan. 20, 2017, and even after that, it was only Shikha articles comparing Trump to Hitler. That's it. It is known.
The real problem here it seems is that the concept of immigration and the concept of citizenship are too closely linked together in too many people's minds. They are separate things and should be treated separately. Immigration is just people moving about. Citizenship is the act of "joining the club" of citizens. Current "club members" should decide who gets to join the club, of course, but why should current "club members" get to decide who gets to move in next door but not formally join the club?
Ken had an idea a while ago about a process in which people who wanted to come here to work, but not to become citizens, would just show up at the border, show some ID, undergo a quick background check, perhaps a quick health screening, and they'd be allowed in to work as they wished. That seems eminently reasonable. Wonder if he still agrees with this type of scheme.
would just show up at the border, show some ID
I found a sticking point in the plan, according to some political stripes.
Yeah well they are stupid.
Wow, so I guess the whole 'Obama as deporter in chief' is one of those lies that ends up becoming true through repetition huh?
If memory serves, they changed the metrics to make him look tougher than he was.
Still deported a lot of people, obviously, but it helps when you change the reporting to include metrics that weren't included previously.
Yep, found a few stories about that.
Boden also says he is a unifier.
Immigration is not a human right. The problem we have is that under our program, asylum leads to immigration. That is why so many come to play the asylum card to obtain permanent residency. True, the Refugee Convention says that every person has the right to seek asylum. However, the Convention does not say that ever country has the obligation to grant asylum. Not does it say that every person who arrives is eligible for asylum.
Immigration is not a human right.
Last time I got held up at the Canadian border for intense questioning about why I was traveling there for business, I kept trying to tell the Canadian Customs officer it was, but he wasn't having it. Trudeau's Canada...
Does that mean China Joe and his thugs plan on taking the help offered by the Red Chinese in inundating our country with illegals, more drugs causing a loss of jobs, drops in pay, more illness and loss of medical care???......Squirrley Joe has a vendetta against this country and is a bought and paid for Manchurian candidate who is getting his bread buttered by the CCP as he cripples this country.....I do believe his ongoing acts are proving this point without doubt....
Open borders is not an immigration policy, it is lack of an immigration policy.
And a lack of a 'country'. Open border fans should move to a deserted island because that's what they pretend to want anyways.
"Biden Says His Immigration Policy Will Be Better Than Obama's"
For whom? Illegals breaking our laws? Or for unemployed US citizens? You know those that lost their jobs because their Governors shut down their states. while Biden let's illegal "Petri dish" aliens into the country?
