The Media Failed by Giving People What They Want
Whatever lies the press is telling us, they are ones that at least some of us want to hear.

Concerned about deep political divisions ripping apart the United States? Relax—there's at least one issue on which there's an emerging consensus across the political spectrum.
That is that the press has failed.
President Trump, in his remarks on January 6 before a mob of his supporters disrupted Congress, said, "We don't have a free and fair press. Our media is not free. It's not fair. It suppresses thought. It suppresses speech, and it's become the enemy of the people. It's become the enemy of the people. It's the biggest problem we have in this country."
It was not just Trump and the Republicans expressing this view. President Obama's statement on "today's violence at the Capitol" said, "for two months now, a political party and its accompanying media ecosystem has too often been unwilling to tell their followers the truth—that this was not a particularly close election and that President-Elect Biden will be inaugurated on January 20." The Senate Democratic leader, Chuck Schumer, returning to the Senate floor after the disruption, denounced what he called "a demagogic president, the people who enable him, the captive media that parrots his lies."
Nikole Hannah-Jones, the Pulitzer-Prize-winning reporter for the New York Times Magazine, tweeted, "Trump placed open white nationalists all throughout his admin from the beginning and we—mainstream media, polite society—normalized that and we should all be absolutely appalled." She named one "mainstream media" outlet in particular: "MSNBC was running Trump's speeches in full and giving platform to disinformation trolls from Trump Administration almost his entire presidency."
The president of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Sherrilyn Ifill, tweeted, "The obsession of white journalists w/understanding white Trump voters blinded them to pursuing the more informed perspective of Black people, whose vantage point provides a clear look at precisely what is broken in American democracy."
James and Kathryn Murdoch, in a statement, said, "Spreading disinformation—whether about the election, public health or climate change—has real-world consequences. Many media property owners have as much responsibility for this as the elected officials who know the truth but choose instead to propagate lies. We hope the awful scenes we have all been seeing will finally convince those enablers to repudiate the toxic politics they have promoted once and forever." James is a son of Rupert Murdoch, who controls the Wall Street Journal, New York Post, Fox News Channel, and other outlets.
Ok, maybe the political divisions on this issue aren't quite so nonexistent. While Trump and his critics both say the press is a problem, they disagree on how. Trump thinks the problem is the press has been too hostile. Trump's critics think the problem is the press has been too pro-Trump—"captive," in Schumer's words.
Already, some news and opinion outlets, such as CNN, have aired calls for utilities to deny carriage to competing outlets.
A healthier approach than having phone companies or cable companies or internet service providers police the content would be for the free market to help by providing consumers information to make intelligent choices. At least two startups, Newsguard and Credder, are aiming to make a profit by guiding readers to more trustworthy news outlets.
The editor Alana Newhouse sees in the brokenness of the current moment an opportunity for new beginnings: "Establish a newspaper, one people can see themselves in and hold in their hands.…Give up on our current institutions; they already gave up on us," she advises in a recent piece.
Seeing the failures of the press as a business opportunity is tempting, and doubtless some visionary and hardworking entrepreneurs will find a way to make money by improving on what now exists. But even a startup will come up against the hard reality that in free, democratic capitalism, just like politicians tell voters what they want to hear, the press tells readers what they want to hear. That's not a way of making excuses for either politicians or television producers or newspaper editors; I have been a harsh critic of all three.
But a country, on some level, gets the politicians it deserves, just as it gets the press it deserves. So the across-the-political-spectrum tendency to blame the media may itself be a sign of a kind of denial, a way of avoiding confronting one of the hardest truths of all. Whatever lies the press is telling us, they are ones that at least some of us want to hear.

Progressives have a term for it: unconscious bias.
Apply it to the media and it makes perfect sense.
As opposed to obvious, conscious rightwing propaganda you swallow whole.
I'm glad you knew this article was about you!
I get paid 95 $ each hour for work at home on my PC. I never thought I’d have the option to do it however my old buddy abc is gaining 65k$/month to month by carrying out this responsibility and she gave me how.

See Tony for a perfect example of unconscious bias. Plus a whole lotta anger cast into "progressive" views.

One side criticizes one outlet for letting their users see entire speeches (a.k.a. Information on what really happened). One side criticizes the other outlets for deceptively editing and hiding speeches from their users (a.k.a. hiding and editing the information so their users will draw the conclusions they want them to have).....Hmmmmm, which side would someone who wants to promote a free and open society agree with?
I think the conservative press (like Fox News) will become more libertarian as people realize that they will never wrest back control of government from the socialists and thus the only option is to slowly but comprehensively eliminate it. No one's happy about it, and it won't get high ratings, but it's the least bad option.
That's fine, we can take care of ourselves now. We just need to abolish social security and medicare. Then we won't be dependent on big government and can be free. (Thus the enemy isn't dems or RINOs but those of a man's own household.)
No, Fox News is going to go the way of CNN and MSNBC. Murdoch's kids are both progressives. They'll run their News outlet into the ground.
+10000000000
We are more clear than ever that its not American socialists who want some social programs. The commies are back as a minority force and are desperate. The boomers that supported them are dying like flies. Millennials and young commies are moronic tools of the few remaining wealthy oligarchs who want their mark on the destruction of America.
The lefties had to use election fraud AND kungflu hysteria to steal an election just to win a meager divided america. Hahahaha.
I hope you are right, but I am skeptical.
The Fox News crowd, along with OANN and infowars, are not into principled conservatism or classical liberalism. They are into bumper sticker slogans, scapegoats, and the feeling of justified outrage.
Which is the same as msnbc watchers, just even less factual on the fox/oann side of the house.
You literally post wapo, the atlantic, and other biased lefty sites dummy.
And I also post the wall street journal, forbes, etc.. So what?
Today, in Basic facts for Jesse to learn:
Having an editorial bias is not equal to misinformation.
You constantly post misinformation halfwit. You still push the trump tower pinging foreign Russian banks conspiracy. Lol.
BTW the irony of your statement in regards to your view of "conservative sources" is hilarious.
I don't know your history with this guy, but perhaps you can be less truculent. Now's a great time to attract people who might be interested in libertarianism. Obviously they won't be ideologically perfect. It's our job to gently persuade them.
Furthermore we will need allies against socialism, and this guy's criticism of MSNBC suggests he could be one.
You're assuming Jesse is a libertarian. He isn't. He's a Team Red lackey who comes here to amuse himself by pissing on libertarians.
You literally admitted to being a globalist fatwit. You have never pushed a libertarian principle outside of open borders and refuse to acknowledge the welfare state implications of such. You even threatened government action on those who don't wear masks because you refuse to put cookies down.
Dol and Jeff aren't libertarians. They are left leaning globalists who support libertarianism. Th
Who don't support libertarianism *
I don’t know your history with this guy, but perhaps you can be less truculent.
It's always funny when someone begins a bit of advice by acknowledging that they don't have any information on what it is that they're about to dispense advice on.
Both Jeff and DOL are leftists who enjoy calling themselves libertarian. They both routinely follow the line of thinking of Dems, such as shooting an unarmed protestor is a good shoot or Biden is better than Trump on a libertarian scale or constantly saying any and all conservative news sources are pure lies, while they link to things like the Atlantic when asked for citations....
They're also both idiots.
Jesse is not a libertarian either, he's a conservative, but he doesn't try to hide that, unlike Jeff and DOL hiding their true selves.
I could go on, but hopefully that's enough.
Forbes, which wrote an article calling for Trump supporters to be purged from employment and banking.

THIS is what sells! But there's actually nothing new under the sun, really! This bullshit has been going on a LOOOOOONG time!
The only difference this time is that a few tech companies control the ability to distribute regular yellow journalism.
One only needs to back to the 19th century to see some absolutely awful journalism. We just got jaded by living in the golden age of semi-competent journalism. Holy Fuck, we used to have newspapers actively shilling the Protocols of Zion! Big city newspapers were literal arms of the political parties (why do you think so many of them had "Democrat" or "Republican" in the name?
Yeah, 20th century journalism was largely pablum thanks to government mandated monopolies. But at least "objectivity" wasn't a filthy word, even if it was never achieved.
"We just got jaded by living in the golden age of semi-competent journalism. "
No, you lived in an age where the media had created a mass delusion of semi-competent journalism.
Probably far more accureate.
Doesn't it just give you a warm and fuzzy feeling all over that there's only two sides to everything? Makes it all so simple!
Yes, this! ALL of the world's troubles can be solved with simple 5, maybe 8, word slogans!
Reading your pathetic "poems", you really seem to believe that.
AnyoneStillCareAboutFreedomInHere thinks that we need TWO, 4-word slogans, actually, exactly, to solve ALL the troubles of the Universe!
'1) Make America Great Again,

THIS^^ Keeping the pot boiling with outrage is what garners eyeballs and ears.
As usual Mencken said it best, although it applies to 'news' organizations as much as politicians:
“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”
― H.L. Mencken, In Defense Of Women
I've taken to changing the radio station when the news comes or listening to audio books when I am driving. It has improved my state of being considerably.
reasonable facsimile of my current situation
"MSNBC was running Trump's speeches in full and giving platform to disinformation trolls from Trump Administration almost his entire presidency."
Sorry Nikole, I see it a different way!
How dare the run his speeches unedited. We can only do that for the benighted one, Obama.
I can not but think that part of the problem is that we have too much news. Growing up we had the national news at 0530 and then local at 0600. Now we get news 24/7. Is there really that much to report? Much of the news is just repeated from hour to hour.
What's happening now is probably partially the result of the 24/7 cycle, but also in response to the gatekeepers losing control. People tend to be more fair and generous when they are secure in their power. When their power is threatened they tend to lash out and try and destroy what's threatening that power (in this case the audiences ability to access information without going through them first).
Yup. The commies in the propaganda biz are trying to put the genie back in bottle where they are the gatekeepers and can control the world through that propaganda. Media opinion as fact is famous for that.
The internet allowed every american the ability to find news and determine for themselves how unbiased that news is.
Also allowed the opportunity for anyone to post news.
noone needs more than one brand of news huh?
sure, lets make the choices easier for the poor public
So once again it's a story of the Republicans complaining about the progressives in media being dishonest censourous dicks, and the progressives complain that their allies in the media not being dishonest censourous dicks enough
How can you say such horrible things?!
No, really. Why are you still being allowed to utter such wrongthink? COMMISSAR!
^THIS
Yeah, anyone surprised CNN is trying to throttle their competition, while criticizing their competition?
Someone's not being conspiratorial enough. There's a reason 90% of the news media skew leftist, when the country is more 50-50. Democrats calling the media "captive" reveals half of the truth.
The writers, editors and people that run these things pretty much all come out of our brain wash factories....errr, I mean colleges and universities.
That's part of it, but I think that most of these twits have their political leanings 'hard-wired' by having to defend the writings they produced as young naifs when they were more socialistic. As Churchill is supposed to have said:
‘If you’re not a liberal when you’re 25, you have no heart. If you’re not a conservative by the time you’re 35, you have no brain.’
Yes but I doubt Churchill would recognize the self styled liberals of today. Actually, I think he would but he would use a different term for them.
And to have gatekeepers we'll need a gate, and to have a gate we'll need a wall or fence to protect the country - or at least the important parts of it.

Nikole? Was there anyone in the Trump admin who called for the Bill of Rights to be taken from any group? You can't say shi% like that and not be called into question your basic ability to discern facts or not put your ideology above reality..

I must have missed anyone in the Trump admin who was asking for the Bill of Rights to be taken from specific "tribes" or groups in the US...must have missed that one...NYT
A healthier approach than having phone companies or cable companies or internet service providers police the content would be for the free market to help by providing consumers information to make intelligent choices"
I think people are making intelligent choices, and it's reflected in both their hatred of the news media generally and in the unemployment line. Check these statistics--from before the pandemic:
“Employment in newspaper newsrooms decreased by 45 percent from 2008 to 2017—and by 60 percent from 1990 to 2016. (Even so, newspapers, because they are declining from a high base, still have almost three times as many newsroom employees as digital-only news sites: 38,000 versus 13,000.) Newspapers’ paid circulation has declined from 62.5 million in 1968 to 34.7 million in 2016, while the country’s population was increasing by 50 percent. Just between 2007 and 2016, newspapers’ advertising revenue, their major source of income, declined from $45.4 billion to $18.3 billion . . . . Almost 1,800 newspapers, most of them local weeklies, have closed since 2004
. . . .
The Wall Street Journal recently published a depressing chart showing that such outstanding regional daily papers as The Seattle Times and The Dallas Morning News have been able to convert fewer than 1 percent of their formerly nonpaying digital readers into paid subscribers. The figure at The Washington Post, which has the enormous advantage of access to Amazon’s super-efficient payment system, was under 2 percent, and at the Times under 4 percent. The uncomfortable truth is that, in the Internet age, most newspaper readers have found that they can get most of what they want to know from other sources.”
----NYRB, February 27, 2020
“Can Journalism be Saved?”
https://www.nybooks.com/articles/2020/02/27/can-journalism-be-saved/
A lot of that loss was driven by technology, with people getting their news online instead of delivered in a physical newspaper, but then not even the New York Times or the Washington Post could get more than 2% or 4% of their readers to subscribe? That isn't a failure of the market. That's management failing to deliver a product that consumers are willing to buy.
It's gotten worse for the news media during the pandemic. As much as people's attention has been driven to the news by the pandemic and the election, retailers, restaurants, and movie theaters aren't interested in buying advertising when their customers are hunkered down or locked in. And now cord cutting is coming after cable news.
Every time someone cuts the cord and goes to a streaming service without CNN or MSNBC, those channels lose money--they collected from cable subscribers who paid for having those channels on their dial whether they wanted them or not. Meanwhile, even Fox News is feeling the pressure, as however so many of their viewers leave them in anger and have started watching streaming services like Newsmax.
The point is that there are market forces at work on the news media alright, and the news media itself is collapsing under the weight of the public's indifference and disgust.
Yes, that is a market solution!
As a great philosopher one said, "It is now my duty to completely drain you".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIFUHzCUHrg
I think the market forces working on the newspaper business are instant gratification and short-attention-span theater - why would I buy a whole newspaper when all I'm interested in is the sports scores and I want to know the score of the game that just ended two minutes ago? Or the stock price on GM and I want to know what it is right now? Or what twelve different economists think of the latest on what the Fed said this morning when my local paper only has Paul Krugman's weekly column as their token economic analysis? I'm only going to be looking at one thing in the paper for two minutes - I'm not willing to pay for the 99% of the paper I'm not interested in.
Paul Krugman’s economic analysis? The vast majority of what he writes is political hackery.
Paying for news is like paying for porn.
Too many people are giving it away for free.
To be fair, much of what is said to be news is actually propaganda.
Propaganda needs to be distributed for the masses for it to work, so free works. The problem is that the propagandists need to pay bills, so free doesnt work.
The commies want you to pay for them to be able to destroy america from the inside out.
Indeed, the market is working. Research “Trumpadelphia” and see the overwhelming Republican vote of the working Black and Latino poor. Then enjoy the stats of the wealthy blue blood, main line white Democrats (enjoying a 10 year property tax break) all while supporting teacher unions through raising property taxes on the same minority working poor.
Identity Politics is shovel fed bullshit, and the working ethic class gets it.
Trump thinks the problem is the press has been too hostile. Trump's critics think the problem is the press has been too pro-Trump—"captive," in Schumer's words.
One of these complaints is self-evidently true, and the other is from Bizarro world. How hard would it be to show some examples of the media's outrageous dishonesty here? I can think of several off the top of my head.
And if you're suggesting that the media's TDS is predictable because half the population of the country has TDS and demands it in their news, I'll have to ask, chicken or egg? The media started lying about Trump to sink his candidacy in 2016, before which he was a relatively admired celebrity. They managed to turn him into a monster in the minds of half the country practically overnight.
"One of these complaints is self-evidently true
We can see it in the statistics, too!
On September 30, 2020, three days before the election, Gallup reported that 89% of Republicans and 64% of Independents had little or no trust in the media to report the news fairly and accurately.
https://news.gallup.com/poll/321116/americans-remain-distrustful-mass-media.aspx
Has anything happened in the interim to improve that perception--particularly in regards to the media's treatment of President Trump.
I don't think so.
Chicken
The media started lying about Trump to sink his candidacy in 2016, before which he was a relatively admired celebrity. They managed to turn him into a monster in the minds of half the country practically overnight.
^^^This right here. Trump was a reality TV mogul most of his life, a manufactured media creature played up as the stereotypical larger-than-life billionaire living the good life (or at least as imagined by an Alabama trailer park denizen hanging onto her MegaMillions lottery ticket). The media created Trump, they could uncreate him just the same, so it really wasn't that hard to convince half the nation that their image of Trump was all wrong, that he was literally the second coming of Hitler. They just hadn't counted on Trump being better at playing their own game than they were.
As an example, I used to watch CNN because they did a better round-up of the news of the day but I had to quit watching them during the 2016 primaries because they were so obviously in the bag for Trump. They regularly had Trump surrogates and spokesmen on their shows, they regularly allowed Trump to phone in and talk about whatever he wanted - a courtesy they never afforded any other candidates. It was a Trump love-fest all day every day. And I knew why they were in the bag for Trump - Trump was a joke, a clown, a ridiculous choice of a candidate, the perfect foil for Hillary, they wanted Trump to be the candidate rather than one of the experienced "serious" candidates. The same way they talked up the bipartisanship of "Maverick" McCain and Mitt Romney right up until they won the nomination then turned on them, CNN was simply plumping for the worst candidate for the GOP. It was hilarious to see that bite them in the ass - nobody believes you pack of liars any more.
Y'know, Trump really just can't do anything right.
Let his daughter marry a Jew and convert to Judaism, and dotes on his Jewish grandkids. Worst Hitler Reincarnation Ever.
"Authoritarian", too!
Why, he threatened to fine me for not wearing a face diaper, and threatened to pull the liquor license of my fave tavern if they didn't keep the tables 72" apart!
So what explains the fact that all the Nazis want him to be their leader?
Could it be that they see past token sons-in-law and straight through to the policy of mass killing undesirables? Are you dumber than Nazis or what?
You are dumber than communists.
It's like you don't actually know what's going on: https://www.newsweek.com/richard-spencer-reiterates-support-biden-disavows-useless-traitorous-gop-1527555.
Tony only thinks in caricatures. He denies any evidence that runs contrary to his world view.
The media has shifted during Trump, not because of anything he was doing but because the intel agencies (both foreign and domestic), bureaucracy, Big Tech, and R leadership encouraged and conspired with them to go full fiction while insulating them from any consequences.
They'd spent all of Obama's term running interference for the white house, but still had to deal with pushback/dissent from corporate Rs like WSJ and FoxNews.
That scripted opposition was greatly scaled back when Trump actually won, and in 2020 was discarded entirely.
Now we have a mass media that is purely Party, now State, organ and psychotically emboldened to spread complete fiction, with the aim of brainwashing the masses into psychosis.
And its working.
They made you accept the eradication of inherent human rights because of a moderate respiratory virus played up as the scariest thing ever, they made you accept a completely illegitimate election likely stolen in front of your face, and they're making you accept the threat of "white supremacist domestic terror" due to two hours of mild rioting despite telling you months of real terrorism and deadly riots from the left were just ideas and peaceful protests.
No totalitarians have ever had as much power and reach as the Global Socialist Party that has its boot firmly planted on your face right now.
It wouldn’t be a fascist takeover without anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.
Wow
He didn't mentioned Jews, so it is telling you automatically thought jews. You know what they say about dog whistles, since only dogs can hear dog whistles, what does that make you when you hear a dog whistle?
I'm convinced Tony sees the world as cartoon caricatures of his beliefs, complete with halos above those he agrees with and horns & pitchfork associated with those he disagrees with.
Donald Trump is self-evidently the biggest fat fucking lunatic retard ever to soil the White House with his insane ranting, horrible family, and diseased sycophants.
If you think he’s the victim of something, you have been freebasing rightwing horseshit for years, and you haven’t even once considered the possibility that all the people with journalism degrees and PhDs and mainstream social acceptance might be smarter than you.
You’re not smarter than them. Compete where you can compete. The advanced world is going to have to do something about you people, if only in self-defense. You understand.
Fuck off, Tony.
"Donald Trump is self-evidently the biggest fat fucking lunatic retard ever to soil the White House with his insane ranting, horrible family, and diseased sycophants."
"“…We often think Tony, Shrike, and ChemJeff are being dishonest–especially when they don’t seem to learn anything from having their arguments shredded and smeared in their faces everyday for years. But the fact that they don’t seem to learn anything–knowledge wise or in terms of critical thinking–may be consistent with the hypothesis that they’re just not that bright. And we shouldn’t necessarily assume that Binion, Boehm, or Britschgi are fundamentally different from them.
Maybe the reason they try to make us feel is because they’re incapable of making us think. It is beyond their capabilities…”
Simply, Tony is entirely too stupid to recognize that he constantly shovels his lefty shit.
Tony is a religious zealot, but rather than some born again Christian mega church his religion is leftism.
Ah, the broken record that is Tony....Trump blah blah evil blah....Tony's side blah blah moral perfection blah...Anger, hate, anger, nap time.
"The advanced world is going to have to do something about you people..."
That seems to be recurring theme for the commies, and I think I've figured out why it is so prevalent.
They know that they had to cheat and steal the election, on such a massive scale, that it is clear to them just how popular Trump's policies are.
The only way that will be able to hold on to the slim majorities they have in government will be to eliminate as much of the opposition they can.
The next election is going to be such a landslide for conservatism that the fraud machine won't be able to come close. So, the only alternative is to do what dictators have practiced for decades - political "re-education", on a massive scale. Failing that, imprisonment, to minimize the number able to vote them out.
They see they've produced a revolution by the minority. Now the goal is to prevent what they did, being done to them by the majority.
Fascism 101.
"...One of these complaints is self-evidently true, and the other is from Bizarro world. How hard would it be to show some examples of the media’s outrageous dishonesty here? I can think of several off the top of my head...."
Wife had a 'news team' on her machine; the male and female were feeding each other stories about how nothing happens without a charismatic 'spark', seemingly oblivious to the riots of last summer and autumn.
They then interviewed a recent FBI retiree, and he's on about how he doesn't like the phrase 'I understand your anger...'.
According to him we live in a paradise where no views are marginalized and the press has only to censor Trump for it to become truly panglossian.
I wonder if he is the FBI scum who provided the lies to get that warrant; there was nothing in the interview to suggest he was unbiased or anywhere close to it.
At just ONE of these news conferences I would love someone to ask...
"So, senator schumer... are you just intentionally trying to gaslight everyone or are you truly full of $h1T?"
The solution to bad speech is better speech. Alex Jones gets to have his crappy ass website, but I get to also have my crappy ass website that mocks his crappy ass website. Plus, my crappy ass website isn't constantly hawking bitcoin and money launderers.
"The solution to bad speech is better speech."
As shown by the news media's inability to attracting paying subscribers, per my link above, I'm not sure anyone is pursuing that strategy--yet.
The newspaper business in the past appears to have been driven primarily by barriers to entry in their local markets, like distribution efficiencies, and once the internet beat that, it was all over for them.
The reason cable news can run opinion shows that draw fewer viewers than an average coed doing bikini try-on videos from her dorm room on YouTube is because cable subscribers were forced to pay subscription fees for CNN and MSNBC whether they watched them or not. Ditto for government mandated carrier fees that regulators require cable companies to pay to local broadcast stations. Now the streaming revolution is pulling the rug out from under that.
We haven't really started to see news outlets trying to compete on quality yet. So far, they're still mostly targeting oversaturated lefty markets or trying to defend their protected rackets. Watch the networks case against Locast--even as Locast keeps expanding. As analogies go, the news markets are being disrupted, but we're still in the stage of the 1970s, and the only thing to listen to is shitty soft rock on AM radio.
I'm not talkin' 'bout movin' in
And I don't want to change your life
But there's a warm wind blowin' the stars around
And I'd really love to see you tonight
OMG, that was shit.
when I was a kid I thought it was "I'm not talkin' 'bout the linens"
I thought it was “talkin’ ‘bout millennium”
You talking shit about England Dan?
I guess you're allowed to be wrong about one thing.
I tend to get my news from sites like RCP, because they will run stories from both the left and the right. I figure if I read both, as long as they ain't behind a pay wall (used ain't intentionally), somewhere in the middle is the truth.
So what is your "crappy ass" website hawking?
Survival food and other prepper supplies?
3M combat earplug lawsuits?
And his makes tons while you're still a poor.
This article hits upon the basis for the problem, supply and demand. There are so many news sites and so many places to get the news, that news consumers pick the news services that confirm their biases the best.
Back in the day, news services like ABC, NBC, and CBS had to appeal to 40 million viewers. This required a toned down take on the day's news.
Today, with so many news services, you see entities like Fox and CNN fighting over 3 million viewers. And these viewers demand a the news confirm their biases as much as possible.
Therefore, since their audiences are so small, any loss of viewership is huge. Just ask Fox. They stopped being Trump sycophants and OANN and Newsmax sucked up their viewers.
They weren't Trump sycophants.
If you watched them, you'd see how ridiculous a statement that is.
What they were is an alternative to the lockstep of the rest of mainstream media. Not antithesis, but more even in approach.
They lost viewers because throughout 2020 they were less and less an alternative, and they lost viewers because they signaled full allegiance to the rest of corporate media when they called AZ for Biden an hour after the polls closed (while still holding out on FL and OH, despite the larger % reported and margins of victory).
That's when their viewers who hadn't noticed it before, or tolerated the discomfort, finally felt the knife in their back.
Well, now you're just making Ira Stoll's point for him.
What ought to be the purpose of Fox News? To make Republicans happy?
“What they were is an alternative to the lockstep of the rest of mainstream media.”
“What ought to be the purpose of Fox News? To make Republicans happy?”
Murdoch was quite clear he founded foxnews as an alternative to all the left wing cable news already in existence. Do you read the comments you respond to?
No. No he does not. He might learn something if he did.
Actually, yes, they were Trump sycophants. I have watched them, and they specifically grabbed Trump supporters by continuing the stolen election garbage while Fox started to call it like it was; Trump being a sore loser.
Fox got tired of defending the ridiculousness that was Trump and got tired of peddling his crap. OANN and Newsmax jumped right in to keep the propaganda going. Sorry, but that's just reality.
It's really not, but slurp all the prescribed groupthink you'd like.
Just another bot.
Are you really this ignorant? I explained exactly what happened.
Oh wait, are you one that believes Trump is infallible and if you aren't properly sycophantic to him you are a group-thinking bot?
If so, that means you think like 2/3rds of this country are bots. And that would be a lot of bots.
Ah yes, everyone who watched fox news or disagrees with you is a Trump sycophant who believes Trump is infallible.
Or...you're an idiot.
I'll take door number two.
P.S. FoxNews never went with the election steal story. Only morons think that. Even their prime-time opinion shows dropped reporting on the truth of the steal within days of the other media's, and the crooked election official's, denials that they had done what was obvious to so many.
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/m/marketfailure.asp
"Market failure is the economic situation defined by an inefficient distribution of goods and services in the free market. In market failure, the individual incentives for rational behavior do not lead to rational outcomes for the group."
There's no problem with distribution though putz.
My god are you a stupid Goy
There’s no problem with distribution though putz.
Yes there is moron, there is a problem in that the market is currently over saturated with products consumers don't want. That's inefficient.
The distribution inefficiency is that they are working on a model that cord cutting and the internet has crea, has rendered useless.
>>Whatever lies the press is telling us, they are ones that at least some of us want to hear.
why do you want to hear lies what the fuck? the left is retarded.
Hi Dillinger! Glad to see you're back.
Live through a grease fire you worthless bag of shit.
Well, that was uncalled for.
Just make sure you're the only one in the building.
Lol. No, it was completely called for.
Nikole Hannah-Jones, the Pulitzer-Prize-winning reporter for the New York Times Magazine, tweeted "Trump placed open white nationalists all throughout his admin from the beginning...
Good to see Twitter is no longer censoring tweets that contain “disputed or misleading information”
Fascist propaganda can never be disputed or misleading.
Nikole Hannah-Jones, the Pulitzer-Prize-winning reporter for the New York Times Magazine
'Nough said.
NYT, aka 25% of the morning roundup.
Propaganda and brainwashing over generations results in people wanting exactly what they’re supposed to want.
Social media threw a monkey wrench into that machine for a few years which they’re getting around to fixing with censorship, persecution and violation of our inalienable rights.
If we don’t stand up for our rights, we may not notice until they’re gone. Hell, velvet chains aren’t so bad, are they?
What rights would you be referring to?
Bigot-fight!
Jews always take it in the shorts.
Are you unable to read?
...censorship... and violation of our inalienable rights.
Illiterate idiot.
Nice to know that the NCAACP officer, Sherrilyn Ifill is a racist black nationalist.
You should see bidens pick to lead up the civil rights division. Division being key word.
https://www.independentsentinel.com/bidens-new-assistant-ag-for-civil-rights-seems-to-be-racist-and-anti-semitic/
Black people, always so divisive! Obama was the most divisive president!
Didn't bother to read huh?
Of course he didn't. Not that it would matter, he cannot comprehend what he reads anyway, esepically if it's bad news for his side.
I too *winkwink*don't hate black people!
Poor Tony - must suck having to defend racists just because they're from the chosen party.
Speaking of giving people what they want, where are all the MLK articles about how he was for equality of all races, and how the current pack of fascists disrespect him by using race only as an offensive weapon?
I think he’d be more offended by rightwingers trotting out his corpse for their own evil racist ends.
MLK was a socialist and advocated everything about race you hate. The only thing you know about him is literally half of a sentence.
I too never really understood MLK!
Yes. Judging people on the content of their character and not the cor of the skin is totally a left wing thing... just ignore the whole CRT, the open racism of the left against conservative minorities, the belief on race traitors of said group, etc.
Conservative minorities? People with bad opinions don’t get special protection. They get sent to the dustbin of history, if we’re lucky. I’m not even saying that as your new and improved non-principled Tony. It’s just a retarded thing for you to believe. Leave the advanced rights to people with advanced brains. The only idea conservatives have is that having 99% of the power and wealth instead of 100% of it is great oppression.
MLK never said “A thought experiment, if you will. What if a white person is denied the right to enter a grocery store simply because she has no personal hygiene habits? Isn’t that just like what we’re marching and dying for?”
Not sure if you knew that.
Your new and improved, non-principled Tony? Lmao nobody even considers your personality or whatever the self-important fuck. You're really not that important. 😀
He’s just a hateful left wing bigot. Best to just ignore him.
Tony's been around for years... but I'm not sure he's always the same person. Style changes, as does hostility and open-mindedness. My theory is a legacy account at a dorm or fraternity.
Interesting thought. He’s definitely been a lot more angry and delusional lately. I figured senility is creeping up on him, and he takes his frustration that he can’t remember where he left his teeth out on us.
teh media failed period and will not learn that obvious sabatoge of a president is not good. they didn't learn when Dan Blather lied about Bush and they will never learn now because they smell blood. the lies will continue and obviously grow as we have seen in teh last few weeks.
Every other industry has to be regulated. Naive stupidity of libertarians notwithstanding, there would be nothing but shelled-out craters where national parks used to be without the people setting rules for powerful private interests. So-called media companies are no different. At least we now have a crystal clear example of what happens when the technology of the internet is used to create terrorist cells and spread terrorist propaganda. In fairness, we were already quite aware of it when it came to brown people.
I don’t have any interest in other people’s freedom to believe lies. Lies are regulated a hundred different ways in our system of laws. You don’t have a right to poison people’s minds, and I don’t care what you think is true. The very danger of poisoned minds is what people do when they are most fervently motivated.
Just assume it was Putin and call yourselves victims of foreign boogie men. Whatever you need to tell yourself.
Systems of government and thought, all institutions and ideas, and every religion or code of ethics, are all stories we tell ourselves. I support the stories that result in my being left the fuck alone as much as possible.
I want to continue having humans around to tell themselves stories, so, for example, lies about climate change have to be eliminated one way or another. It’s simply not an idea that has any utility. At least, it has objectively less utility even than the idea that we should kill all the deniers. There’s no point in rights if we’re all dead. It’s a big fat trolley problem you caused for yourselves. So do the big dick thing and step in front of the train so no one has to shove you.
Pop quiz:
The US government has the legal authority to abridge the freedom of speech or of the press to “prevent the dangerous spread of misinformation”?
[ ]True
[ ]False
That question begs itself.
It has the authority to regulate lies in many different ways, none of which are a violation of the freedom of speech.
Besides, I’m on a big-picture kick lately since a man wearing horns and talking about Jesus sat his shitty asshole in the chair of the president of the Senate and declared himself my king, before being shoved in a cage on my behalf by my actual government.
Freedom of speech is another story we tell ourselves. You want to show me all the ways it gets people killed, then I’ll apply another story we tell ourselves: that getting people killed is not preferable, and it’s the first thing any government asserts the power to regulate.
Jerk off to founding documents all you want as you support the sentiment of Moose man and his orange demigod. You’re on the only team around who would actually go the actual National Archives and literally shit on the pieces of paper. So go fuck yourselves. There are no principles anymore, there is only power. Your team made sure if it. It made it absolutely perfectly clear when it threw elections into a garbage fire and declared the right to tell me to submit to their regime of insanity. Good luck with that.
Tony (after *emotional* blabber) --
[X] TRUE!
*emotional blabber* being; But, but; Only if Democratic National Socialists (Nazism) are the 'legal authority' abridging the freedom of speech of the Republicans who answers [X] False.
Naw, this incarnation of Tony is dumb as rocks, which of course also means that he's pretty sure that he's a genius. Sad.
I too preach to Libertarians about my fear of an unregulated anything!
"That question begs itself"
You used that incorrectly.
"It has the authority to regulate lies "
Which wasn't the question you spent 2 paragraphs being afraid to answer.
The US government can’t abridge the freedom of speech. It says so in its own constitution. Who’s talking about abridging any constitutional freedoms? Not me. I’m trying to protect the constitution from the people who just tried to use it as toilet paper.
I always find it funny how leftists hate the Constitution and continually want to do away with it while always claiming that they are defending the Constitution.
It's an intellectual dishonest that has always amazed me.
Then you'd certainly be against AOC, Pelosi and every other Democrat lobbying for the repeal of Section 230; in pursuit of government censorship. You'd also be in favor of the repeal of the Patriot Act. (Perhaps something both sides should be in agreement over).
Most libertarians, if not all, would agree with a full repeal of the Patriot Act. Repealing Section 230 is much more complicated and due to that, is still very much up for debate, but no libertarian would be for AOC and her ilk or any government agent/agency censoring the internet.
Yes, of course in Tony's world protect and burn to the ground must mean the same thing, otherwise everything he's talking about in this thread is beyond stupid.
Wrong. And authoritarian.
Authoritarian is trying to cancel an election you couldn’t win.
Yeah Hillary was a shithead, and you covered for her terrorism for 4 years, terrorist.
Hillary conceded to Trump the night of the election. But you know that.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/news.yahoo.com/amphtml/hillary-clinton-maintains-2016-election-160716779.html
"Hillary Clinton Maintains 2016 Election ‘Was Not On the Level’: ‘We Still Don’t Know What Really Happened’
Mairead McArdle
October 9, 2020, 12:07 pm"
I love making you look stoopid!!!
"Hillary Clinton is sticking with her conviction that the 2016 presidential election was not conducted legitimately, saying the details surrounding her loss are still unclear.
“There was a widespread understanding that this election [in 2016] was not on the level,” Clinton said during an interview for the latest episode of The Atlantic’s politics podcast, The Ticket. “We still don’t know what really happened.”"
HA!
TONY LOOK DUM!
TONY LOOK DUM!
TONY TONY TONY TONY LOOK DUM!
But she still conceded the night of the election. Putin may have cheated it, but if he did, he won. Much in the same way Biden won by getting more votes the normal way. I don’t understand what point you’re trying to make. That Hillary and Donald are both sore losers? Yeah, and they also both have hair styles.
"But she still conceded the night of the election."
Which means absolutely nothing!!!
ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU THEN GO ON TO CALL IT FRAUDULENT!!!
"“There’s just a lot that I think will be revealed. History will discover,” the Democratic Party’s 2016 presidential nominee continued. “But you don’t win by 3 million votes and have all this other shenanigans and stuff going on and not come away with an idea like, ‘Whoa, something’s not right here.’ That was a deep sense of unease."
HA!
TONY LOOK DUM!
TONY LOOK DUM!
TONY LOOK VERY VERY VERY VERY DUM!
So it was okay when Trump did it on zero evidence, but bad when Hillary did it based on extensive evidence provided by the US justice department?
Okay well then I’m sorry you feel that way.
Lolol fuck you terrorist! Mad harder!!!
HA!
TONY LOOK DUM!
TONY LOOK DUM!
TONY LOOK VERY VERY VERY VERY DUM!
Extensive evidence as literally bought and paid for by Hillary's campaign. You talking about that evidence?
Yeah that was cute when you assholes tried to ratfuck the very concept of paying for oppo research.
You tell me, why would she pay for information that wasn't at least possibly true? Couldn't she make shit up for free?
That question has been answered retard.
I DO love that you gave up on denying the irrefutable evidence that she definitely did it and have stupidly settled on "but why would she try to destroy her opponent" which is just a fucking retarded question
Why wouldn’t she try to destroy her opponent?
My question is why would she pay for a lie when lies are free. Ask Trump. He talks a lot and has never paid for anything in his life.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nationalreview.com/the-morning-jolt/hillary-clintons-bad-habit-of-questioning-election-results-has-spread-to-all-democrats/amp/
"‘You can run the best campaign, you can even become the nominee, and you can have the election stolen from you.’– Hillary Clinton, speaking at an “Evening with the Clintons” event in Los Angeles Saturday."
HA!
TONY LOOK DUM!
TONY LOOK DUM!
TONY LOOK VERY VERY VERY VERY DUM!
Why bother pretending that you have actual beliefs about things?
He's right, you look dum
bThis thread cracked me up. Tony is dumb.
So based on your logic, since Trump used the word "peacefully" in his riot inciting speech, he's all good then, right?
When did you stop beating your husband?
"Every other industry has to be regulated"
Moronic.
But it’s a fact. All industry submits its will to governments. Those that try not to are hardly bastions of individual liberty.
You people think markets are things that exist in nature. They are not. They are inventions of the human mind, like governments, modern art, or volleyball.
Freedom is realizing that the world is what we can make of it, without submitting our brains for processing by ideologues who are perfectly happy looking after their own interests.
"But it’s a fact."
Wrong and Moronic.
The concept of facts is a story we tell ourselves too. Fascists know this better than most.
But this particular concept has some utility if you’re interested in making the world more suitable for providing creature comforts. I’ll listen to libertarian ideas about how laws should be written the moment they demonstrate that they accept the most basic tools for figuring stuff like that out. Until then it’s just assertions from a religious book.
Still Moronic.
The concept of facts is a story
Spoken like a quintessential lefturd. This is exactly the kind of idiocy behind Lysenkoism and every other lefturd fantasy that poses as sophistication.
Reality exists, whether you choose to perceive it or not. Denial of reality leads to the deaths of millions.
-jcr
It's not denial of reality that leads to those deaths, it's acceptance of one reality over another.
Very few wars are fought over resources or land. Almost all of them are one stupid ideology pitted against another stupid ideology.
How many mountains of corpses owe themselves to a disagreement over whether God is one guy or one guy with three parts?
Almost every war, whether between armies or pundits, was fought between two equally absurd notions. Memes.
I agree that there is a reality underneath it all. We're here, aren't we? Descartes doesn't get enough credit for being right about stuff.
But reality has nothing to say about the proper tax rates. Nothing whatsoever.
But reality has nothing to say about the proper tax rates. Nothing whatsoever.
Yes it does. Reality says proper tax rate should be zero, like all theft.
Taxes are a fiction we invented to suit our purposes, same as religion, government, and any ism you like, and if you want to impose your fiction on the world, you have to find your way to the levers of power, if you can. Otherwise someone else’s fiction rules. “Theft” is equally a fiction. It means whatever we say it means. The planet doesn’t come zoned for property. Most of the biosphere would be quite happy if we took our property and left, I’m sure of it.
Poor tony.
" when the technology of the internet is used to create terrorist cells and spread terrorist propaganda"
But enough about Facebook
PUTTING YOUR FEET ON NACY'S DESK IS TERRORISM!
Seriously you sound like Cytotoxic hating Muslims.
Yes, Facebook is a major culprit here. Tech nerds and their inexhaustible semi-autistic libertarian self-regard caused this problem, and frankly I’m not even sure what problems they solved in the process other than the problem of themselves not having billions of dollars.
Save it Tones. You didn't spend the last 4 years denouncing Hillary's terrorist authoritarian attempts to overturn an election you lost, nor the Russiagaters terrorist attempts to overthrow a duly elected government.
So you can sit down. No one wants to hear from your terrorist ilk.
Fascists are always at the ready with a new lie to justify their own terrible behavior. Try to convince someone who doesn’t have your number. I said I’m no longer interested in any principles. You don’t get the luxury of principles when fascists are at the gate trying to murder you for not worshipping the same orange golden calf they do. I want to restore a world where we can talk about principles like civilized adults, because that’s the world I’m used to. Anyone who’s a threat to that can eat the bottom of my boot for all I care.
What part of "save it" and "sit down" did your idiot terrorist ass not understand?
He understood fine he knows he is evil he just doesn't care.
I don’t know what evil is except that I know what fascism does, and if anything could be described as evil it’s the stuff Hitler did.
Those people who violated the capital love them some Hitler. There are more Nazis on your team than you might be aware of. Or maybe you are. Keep siding with them and see how well that turns out for you.
About you, not to you sweetie.
Given all the selfies and news organizations filming around the capital on Jan 6th, why do you think there's not a single snapshot of an actual Nazi?
Assuming of course you understand Nazi doesn't mean someone who disagrees with you.
Well we don’t shoot and cage people for being Nazis, so I don’t understand how it changes the equation when it comes to putting down the insurrection of dunces.
But you’re not reading the same news I am, because that shit was organized. I’m only offering a handy way out. Blame the Nazis, not “normal” Trumpers. You did the same favor for Democrats when you kept screeching about Antifa.
"Fascists are always at the ready with a new lie to justify their own terrible behavior"
So stop.
Any time now.
You know best, you got all your ideas from a neo-Nazi with a YouTube account and not the fanged Jewy overlords over at PBS News, am I right?
On noes Terrorist Tony is mad and called me names!
I think he finally understands how silly it is to call people terrorists when you've been howling like an idiot for 4 years that they are Nazis.
Terrorist is a demotion
It’s silly to treat white peoples differently from brown people when they commit the same crimes, which you would have appreciated if you had listened to BLM instead of continuing to advocate doing exactly that.
But you’re right, these are just labels. What would you call someone who attempts to destroy the US government? We can use your terms if you like.
Tony, realizing he has admitted that he is a terrorist, descends into his predictable trolling gibberish.
I just want to know which words you use to describe people who attempt to destroy the United States. You seem to object to mine, but it’s no skin off my nuts because they are just arbitrary mouth sounds we make.
When someone openly admits they are a terrorist with no principles as you have, the conversation has ended.
"I just want"
Thank you for giving me the satisfaction of denying you something you want then, terrorist.
So you don’t have a word for people who attempt to destroy the United States? Fine, there’s nothing wrong with specificity. “Terrorist” was Republi-fucked by the Bushies anyway. It practically only means terrorists who look a certain way. No, not worship a certain way: I’m confident you’d have no problem calling a Sikh a terrorist.
Hey assholes, if you’re making “boys will be boys” excuses for this stuff, then either apply the same to men who hijack planes for their stupid reasons, or vice versa. It’s only fair, and furthermore it’s useful to refer to identical things by the same words.
Watching you seethe about being denied is hot!
HE MAD!
Being denied rigorous applications of thought on a libertarian website, oh dear what was I thinking coming here??
Keep seething.
HE SO MAD!
Dumb and mad. Very entertaining.
Lefties are damaging themselves and dont even realize it.
I think its their insanity. As they have functioning alcoholics. Lefties are barely functioning lunatics.
Most people have a life they focus on with commie politics always hurting them in some way, so they occasionally pay attention. Lefties have their lives revolve around commie politics with life being a means to a commie end.
>> I said I’m no longer interested in any principles
so you finally stopped lying
I simply misunderstood. I thought we were here to talk about principles within a certain framework of self-governance. Apparently we are talking about which inbred cousinfucking meth heads get to murder my family for not worshiping the correct fat fuck with a combover. Do let me know when we can get back to the more specific project I referred to.
i knew you were lying the whole time
Lying about what? I adopt some principles, but they are within a framework where we all agree on some basic terms. That’s the only way any principles work. There are new terms, so my focus is shifted.
and you trying so hard to get people to like you is embarrassing you just post and post and post begging for recognition
That is certainly not an unfair assumption.
observation not assumption
It’s just that Bernie bros have even more body odor than you people. Who else am I supposed to bounce ideas off of? My own kind? Talk about groupthink. You can’t even object to an obviously ridiculous pronoun usage without enduring their fake offense and ostracism.
how are you still posting
Because you win if you get the last word.
and you are a loser no matter what
Sticks and stones.
it's always gay shit with you too
It’s gonna be gay shit for you too when my comrades are done with this place.
how are you this desperate for attention
Fascists are always at the ready with a new lie
Yeah, we saw that all summer as your presstitutes constantly claimed that your ongoing kristallnacht tantrums were "mostly peaceful protests".
-jcr
Did you, by any chance, happen to witness a single one of these things you know so much about? Have you read any first-hand account, even one?
This is the dumbest response I have seen of yours yet.
Yes, I guarantee everyone here has seen the videos and read first hand accounts.
Seriously, you can't be arguing that the BLM/antifa summer riots didn't actually exist?
You probably saw a lot of a building on fire in Somalia you were dumb enough to think was Portland.
But he did refer to them as equivalent to a mass purge of the Jews, so I wanted to make sure we all witnessed the same thing and not what some horrible cunt on FOX News told you to think.
Yeah, I’m sticking with angry senility.
I "probably saw a lot of building [sic] on fire in Somalia" that I was "dumb enough to think was Poland?"
Did you actually write that thinking, "wow, this is a great comment?"
And I take it you also don't understand figures of speech either?
I think I too will have to go with angry senility.
A lot of the bullshit people read about the summer protests was fake, even news containing photos of shit that happened in Africa. They did it again when Trump tried to pass off some other better-attended event as his DC pity party.
So the only people who kept trying to make this society into an African shithole were Trumpers. I prefer a nice civilized country, thanks.
Two of them happened right in my hometown, and at one of them, an Antifart accidentally shot his fellow protesters trying to plug drivers in a Jeep when the protestors blocked I-225.
Have you read any first-hand account, even one?
I've read most of what Andy Ngo has written about it, including his account of being beaten up by your fellow scumbags.
What's your point, lefturd?
-jcr
So you've read a one-sided account of what happened.
Lol. Videos are so one signed you retarded fat fuck.
Are you even trying anymore, Fat Jeff?
This is so intellectually dishonest I can't actually fathom that you believe this.
Tech nerds and their inexhaustible semi-autistic libertarian self-regard caused this problem
Fuckin' LOL. Tech nerds are a big part of the problem, but it's not because they're libertarian. Because they aren't.
"You don’t have a right to poison people’s minds, and I don’t care what you think is true. "
Yes! To the stake with Galileo, Darwin, Fleming and any other charlatan that questions the established scientific truth.
Interesting to bring up Darwin, since his monumental idea is what you’re neglecting right now. In the wake of successful ideas are many, many bad ideas that are dead.
More to the point, you don’t hear about the attempted revolutions that fail, only the ones that succeed. A merry band meth-addled Limbaugh addicts is not going to win a fight against the US government. I’ll put all your money on that one. There have been bigger, more organized attempts at revolution that exist only as ashes. You just never heard about them because they were stamped out and everyone who bought into it was killed. It happened in China once to the tune of 20 million corpses, and I’m not even talking about the successful revolution you think I’m talking about.
That there exists brilliant scientists in history doesn’t make you a brilliant scientist. In fact, this little application of logic suggests you very won’t be.
More to the point, you don’t hear about the attempted revolutions that fail, only the ones that succeed.
What? You hear about them all the time in history class. Maybe your teachers just sucked.
Name one you wouldn't have to google right now.
The problem is worse than some people failing to achieve their dreams and being totally slaughtered for their effort. By some perspectives, that's the optimal outcome.
The problem is that they try to take power even though their ideas are bad, and even a little great power in the hands of the stupid will inevitably cause mass suffering. Because the world isn't as easy as they need it to be.
So we're stuck knowing their ideas are bad and will eventually fail, wondering if we're going to get swept up in the stupid and find our grandmas being shoved into ovens because, hey, people die!
Is that one a little close to home?
The fucked up thing about Nazi sympathizers is they are in favor of literally the worst idea of all time. Every kindergartener knows that.
Nat Turner
The revolutions of 1848
Guy Fawkes
Yep, angry senility. Dude, you posted above at 2:45 am, then again at 5:14. Get some sleep, preferably at night.
What you get from that sort of regulation is "truth" that supports the narrative of whatever the party in power needs the public to believe in the moment. Like facial masks were not effective when the powers that be were afraid that the public would buy up all the masks needed for medical personnel and afterward demanding mandated mask wearing.
The regulators will be calling truth "lies" if it is inconvenient to the regime.
An astute observation. That’s why I want my team in charge and not yours.
Frankly I’m embarrassed to have come to this obvious conclusion so much later than the rightwing retards did. Liberals, what can you do? We live in a world where barbarian thugs are more myth than reality. Few ever show up to our cocktail parties, until now. I do hope we have the gumption to ruin them intelligently and with as little backlash as possible.
You do not want truth, you just want the right type of lie to be told. It is only about power for you.
Exactly correct.
I have lies that don’t tend to get people killed by the millions, and you have the lies that do. My lies say “believe the stuff that comes out of science” for the silly frivolous reason that those lies get technology built, and it works.
You were so nice to demonstrate just this when you saw a battle of man against virus and you chose the side of the virus.
Thanks for keeping up.
Not a single one of your lies ever got any technology built. That's as much as I can tell you.
I was referring to the scientists' lies. What can I say, they work?
Of course we are free to keep trying the alternative "No MY God is the real one. Yes, he is in fact orange."
"My lies say “believe the stuff that comes out of science” for the silly frivolous reason that those lies get technology built, and it works."
But, as you say, that is a lie.
Technology doesn't work? By work I mean it does the things we tell it to do.
Science is simply the worldview wherein ideas are rigorously tested against observations, which sets it apart from all other worldviews in that it's the most efficient known way to get shit done and made. (Efficient compared to, say, waiting around for a working airplane engine to materialize randomly from quantum fluctuations, otherwise known as praying.) You should pick the team the scientists are on. If I have to explain why, then you are not the faction that deserves to have access to nuclear weapons. And if I have to explain that, take a lollipop and sit in a corner and stop trying to have thoughts.
lol - If you knew anything about science, you'd know they have no "side". Certainly they have zero desire to be attached to the side you just described as "having the right lies".
I used to think you were stupid, now I'm wondering if you're a parody, because no one can be this dumb....
Socialism has in fact killed millions.
Fuck off, slaver.
-jcr
No they don't have to regulate every industry. The regulation craze began with the progressive movement where people believed the Gov should use force to control people's lives for the greater good as they see it. There is a reason moussilini liked the US progressives
That is incorrect. Or maybe it is. Who cares? While the governing is in the hands of the people, they can regulate whatever the fuck they want. It’s called freedom.
"While the governing is in the hands of the people, they can regulate whatever the fuck they want. It’s called freedom."
Ya gotta remember, he's stupid and uneducated. He read a review of 1984 and thought it was a 'primer'.
Conservatards pretending they have ever read a book, so cute.
Shitlibs thinking their Harry Potter collection constitutes an education.
Better than Ayn Rand. At least it has wizards to clue you in to its fantasy nature.
And all you have to know something is fantasy is that Biden pushed it as a good idea.
An argument only someone whose thinking is as demented as Rousseau's was could favor.
So who gets to decide what corporations (which we invented out of thin air) get to be regulated? Which thug in a moose costume?
"So who gets to decide what corporations (which we invented out of thin air) get to be regulated? Which thug in a moose costume?"
OK, none of Lenin's rants matched this for STUPID.
I have trouble remembering what animal he dressed up as because I can smell his hillbilly breath from here.
He should be terribly confused right now about why he’s in a cage instead of serving as Alpha Justice of the Extreme Court.
OK, none of Lenin’s rants matched this for STUPID.
Dunno.
Got R.G Suny's "Stalin" for Christmas; pre-revolution biography. In the propaganda wars between the Bolshsies and the Menshies, Lenin's writing could well have been the inspiration for "New Speak".
Tony, this utilitarian type of thinking is what has gotten us to this terrible place. "Do whatever it takes to stop the other side from winning" is the thinking that motivates the riots and the rest of the horribleness. The solution is not all-out war. The solution is that we all have to learn to live with each other in some way. No that doesn't mean they get to murder you, or that you get to murder them.
A fine thing to say when you haven’t been declared war on.
I’m not saying anything that I don’t believe to be a fact. These are all just stories we tell ourselves. Like money. You can’t do anything with a paper bill. You can’t eat it or wear it or provide shelter with it. It’s designed to be utterly useless, in fact. It works because we all believe it to work, and for no other reason.
The Trumpers quite manifestly don’t believe in the system of government the US constitution set up or any other system that every person with a decent lifestyle lives under. I’m not doing anything but laying it out and hoping Democrats recognize the problem for what it is. And it’s not that they haven’t sold their ideas well enough in the marketplace of ideas. It’s that someone wants to come along and replace the marketplace of ideas with yet another in an infinite line of failed holy books.
The right to free speech for a Nazi. I’m sure they cherish that one. Nobody ever talks about what happens when they use that speech to build a massive cult intent on seizing power from democracy. What happens is one of us ends up a stain on the pavement, and I’m trying to make sure it’s not me.
A fine thing to say when you haven’t been declared war on.
Have you read the comments from the violent sociopaths around here? They hate me about as much as they hate you.
And I do believe that the Trumpers really do have a problem with pluralism lately. They believe themselves to be the entitled true heirs of the American Republic and their opinion should carry far more weight than anyone else's. I get it. It is horrifyingly amusing to see some of these interviews from the rioters after they got caught and arrested. Almost uniformly, they don't regret what they did and moreover they don't feel like they did anything wrong. That is the entitlement mindset. Since THEY are the True Patriots, their lawlessness and violent behavior should be forgiven. All the others, though, well, "when the looting starts..."
But the way to combat that self-entitled narcissism is not with more entitlement from the other side. Trumpers don't get to define a "real Murica", but neither do the pointy headed academics in ivory towers, or the BLM activists in Portland. The way to combat that is to have a frank and honest discussion about what America *actually is*, not the mythology that too often pervades both sides.
If it really does come down to literal life and death of course all options are on the table, but we're not there, and we shouldn't pretend like we are there in order to excuse moral choices that we otherwise wouldn't make.
There is no real America. We do in fact get to define it, as long as we win. They feel the same, and they’re either too stupid or too sociopathic to bother with campfire sessions about how many rights they want to give their opponents.
There are no rights in nature either. That’s an absurd thing to believe. Rights don’t exist in DNA any more than The Cat in the Hat. They are, quite specifically, lies we put on a piece of paper and agree about. Nothing ever written down on a piece of paper was ever truly sacred. Sacredness is just a word. Whoever has the killing machines decides what it means, same with all the other words.
There are a couple reasons I’m not as inclined to continue participating in a debate over the rights of the Nazis. One, I saw this coming. I’ve been on the case of rightwing propaganda for decades. Consider it personal privilege, because this is pretty much exactly what I was warning about, even in the 90s when FOX News had its baby Nazi booties on. Did I ever think it would really happen? No, I thought we were strong enough to prevent it getting this far. Lesson learned on being a frog in a pot of boiling water.
So reason two is that everything Trump has done, I didn’t predict. He’s always been worse. So I’m just trying not to get caught on the wrong side of the assumptions this time.
I’m tired of NOT having the luxury of worrying about the rights of Nazis. I’m angry that they forced me to imagine the mighty death-causing power of the US Armed Forces to sleep at night.
Not that it’s easy to sleep with the thought that with a little shift in public sentiment, they’d have their hands on the world’s greatest death machine now, this time with 10 times the crazy and the hunt officially on especially for democratic institutions. At which point we’d all feel a little silly worrying about the cherished rights of Nazis.
Tony, if you continue down this "will to power" path, you will wind up regretting it. Because your team won't always win.
Are you suggesting that the team wins which best adheres to the ideas of John Locke? Why not the ideas of Mao, or Trump? What's the difference? Other than who has all the shooty things.
I know my team won't always win. That's the terrifying point, because "my team" now includes people who believe in democracy vs. those who believe Hitler was right and use all his tactics, only with Facebook instead of flyers.
I don't care who's right. I care about keeping my house and all my stuff.
I don’t care who’s right. I care about keeping my house and all my stuff.
Which is ultimately why you'll lose--because eventually, you're going to cross someone who won't have that, and will happily destroy you to ensure you don't have it, either.
Not if I give them enough of my paycheck to keep them from starving and getting any ideas.
Even the libertarians want the goons around to protect my property. I don't even have to work for that one.
Is there enough of your paycheck to do that?
"...Have you read the comments from the violent sociopaths around here? They hate me about as much as they hate you..."
“…We often think Tony, Shrike, and ChemJeff are being dishonest–especially when they don’t seem to learn anything from having their arguments shredded and smeared in their faces everyday for years.
And Sevo, you are ancient. Go take your meds, time for bed.
We hate you more you sophist fatwit. Tony is honest with who he is. You lie about it.
You say you want to be "left the fuck alone," but this is not reciprocal. You can't shut the fuck up about how everyone else should think and live.
This is what makes you progressive, dip shit.
'President Obama's statement on "today's violence at the Capitol" said, "for two months now, a political party and its accompanying media ecosystem has too often been unwilling to tell their followers the truth— that this was not a particularly close election and that President-Elect Biden will be inaugurated on January 20."
Curious why Mr. Obama uses that particular phrasing. It's almost as if he can't say that Biden WON the election with a straight face.
If he sits behind the Resolute Desk on January 21, that means he won.
Might makes right from Tony again.
So gross.
I thought we were talking about winning.
Do you think winners are people who whine the loudest? Congratulations, Trumpers win that contest hands down. See if it gets you control over any armies.
So
gross
Sorry, are you whining about someone talking about how power works while you jack off to fat hillbilly thugs trying to assert their power over you with force?
Think how absurd it is to have two entirely different worldviews depending on whether the criminals grew up believing in fake Allah vs. those who believe in fake Yahweh. It’s the same fucking mythology! Think how absurd it is to treat criminals committing the exact same crime differently because of the amount of melanin their DNA encodes for. That is some fucking no-principles if I ever saw it.
As gross as his John's underwear
"that this was not a particularly close election and that President-Elect Biden will be inaugurated on January 20."
It is interesting.
And I believe him here - there's no reliable evidence that Biden came close, yet he will still be inaugurated.
Welcome to the Union Soviet State of America.
You would take any excuse you could get to treat him as illegitimate. Sorry he’s not a woman or black, but at least you have to do practically no work at all to do it to Harris. They even invented a new birtherism for her, how clever.
Interesting study:
https://www.journalism.org/2020/01/24/u-s-media-polarization-and-the-2020-election-a-nation-divided/
What I found most fascinating is the discussion about news sources that are trusted by both sides.
This study looked at 30 different news sources, and it found that for Democrats, they trust more than distrust 22 of them. But for Republicans, they trust more than distrust only 7. Of course one of those 7 is Fox News. But it is even more shocking when you realize that 2 of those 7 sources are Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, which don't even really count as "news sources" at least from a journalistic perspective. Another one of the 7 is Breitbart, which is pure propaganda. So while it is true that there are ideological bubbles for both Team Blue and Team Red, the diversity of opinion even within the bubble is a lot smaller for Team Red than Team Blue. Basically, a very small handful of people - Rupert Murdoch, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and only a few others - are very much able to direct the conversation and craft the narratives that create "conventional wisdom" in Team Red land. A similar dynamic really doesn't seem to exist in Team Blue land, since there are a wider array of sources that construct the narratives and "conventional wisdom" there.
That really is quite dangerous, it seems to me.
"...So while it is true that there are ideological bubbles for both Team Blue and Team Red, the diversity of opinion even within the bubble is a lot smaller for Team Red than Team Blue..."
They have not the mental acuity to understand that they are lying...
Why are you assuming that a larger number of news organizations trusted implies diversity of opinion? I don’t think it does, unless they’re trusting Fox and CNN at the same time. I doubt it.
The simplest answer is that this study shows the media bias to the left. People trust media sources that conform their pre-existing beliefs and portray them honestly. Apparently Democrats identify ~75% favorably, and Republicans identify ~25% favorably, because the majority of the media organizations are biased to democrats.
"Why are you assuming that a larger number of news organizations trusted implies diversity of opinion? I don’t think it does, unless they’re trusting Fox and CNN at the same time. I doubt it."
Exactly the point. Jeff sees 25 sources and thereby assumes there's diversity; so long as many sources repeat "orange man bad", Jeff assumes independent thinking or sources.
Any analysis says you have at least 20, more or less, copying (or often simply repeating) earlier drivel from another.
Ken's got his number; he hasn't the ability to recognize fact from fantasy.
How the hell would you know? You don't watch or read mainstream news at all, and brag about it daily. When was the last time you willingly watched CNN or read the NYT? You make up shit about liberals and call it "fact" while accusing everyone else of living in fantasy land. What a crock.
And here jeff assumes others are the same bubble based idiots he is.
I read vox, cnn, and wapo daily you dumb fuck. It is how I know what you will post any given day since you repeat their narratives without a second thought. Their bias is obvious to anyone except you apparently.
Why are you assuming that a larger number of news organizations trusted implies diversity of opinion?
Because they are not identical? Sure, those 22 news outlets that Democrats tend to trust probably all lean to the left somewhat, but they very likely encompass a broader range of opinion that the mere 7 news outlets that lean to the right. It is still disturbing that a relatively small number of people can control vast amounts of the right-wing media landscape.
If it were reversed, would you think the opposite? Are we in danger until democrats and republicans trust the same number of news organizations equally? How much should the media be trusted?
I think the number ought to be a lot closer to equal. Don't you?
Don't you think it is at all disturbing that three people - Rupert Murdoch, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity - have such vast amounts of influence on the right-wing news landscape?
I would love for it to be more equal, but that would require either:
1. Republicans just deciding to trust democrat media
2. Democrat media becoming more Republican, so it balances out
I think media self-selects as people who want to control what people think, usually with a bias towards government intervention. For all of the 20th century, the journalistic ideal seems like someone who gets the government to pass new laws to regulate new things. That worldview heavily skews progressive, and as long as that held, we’d have a biased media, and trusted news sources would skew accordingly.
So the solution would be either an unbiased media, or an alignment of democrats and republicans on ideology. I don’t think either are very possible any time soon, and I’m not too concerned about it.
I think it would require Republicans to accept that trusted media sources aren't ones who will cheerlead for them and tell them what they want to hear, and I think it would also take mainstream media sources to give more balanced coverage - NOT of insane conspiracy theories, but of concerns for all people, in a non-patronizing way. I think that last one is more difficult than a lot of people think, because there really is this entitlement mentality out there among a lot of right-wingers, that they deserve to be heard just because they are the self-proclaimed True Patriots, regardless of whatever batshit insane things that they believe. But if you start telling these True Patriots that their insane QAnon fantasies and stolen election conspiracies are not true, then they take umbrage and accuse you of being elitist scum and go watch OANN which will stroke their fragile egos. So it does go both ways - media outlets willing to listen to "middle America" more, but more people willing to engage the more critical thinking parts of their brain and not pay attention to every nutjob on the Internet.
Wow. I love how you lecture Tony about appealing to people and persuading and then you write garbage like this.
Truth hurts.
Sorry not sorry but I am just tired of the sense of entitlement that the True Patriots(tm) on the right feel about themselves. They don't have a monopoly on what's best for America, but don't tell them that.
Lol. Not truth. Partisan obedience.
Your assumption above is that since democrats have dominated media, they must be right because the "trusted" media backs them.
Youre literally just saying the majority power is right. Without any analysis beyond that. Lol.
Lying Jeffy hasn’t seen/heard any of those videos/audio of left wing media members from several different sources saying the exact same words and phrases on the same day.
How would he react if someone told him about the Journolist?
Good Lord. I'm not talking about the paid teleprompter readers on the nightly news. I'm talking about media outlets broadly.
The ones who have made half their job reporting tweets or anonymous sources from other media outlet say?
That's not what the study says you ignorant fuck. Youre whole argument is based on an assumption of media neutrality. God damn youre stupid.
Media shows they donate to democrats at a 90% rate. Of course there is more left wing bias in media. Your assumption assumes a neutrality when you claim diversity of thought. Youre fucking retarded.
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/fears-insider-attack-inauguration-ap-turn-out-be-nothing-burger
Fears of mayhem at state capitol buildings and the US Capitol complex in Washington, DC, this past weekend were widely overblown by mainstream media. Now there's more fearmongering from mainstream outlets, this time it's AP, who reports fears of an insider attack that have prompted the FBI to vet the 25,000 National Guard troops stationed in DC ahead of President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration.
AP quotes Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy, who said military officers are conscious of the potential threat and warned officers to observe troops under their command for any red flags.
But, as usual, there's something missing from AP's headline. As Jack Posobiec points out, "the way read to establishment media articles is skip the headline and scroll to the middle," while referring to the AP article titled "FBI vetting Guard troops in DC amid fears of insider attack."
Despite the fearmongering of an imminent "insider attack" by Guardsmen during inauguration day, AP's clickbait journalism is more or less another classic example of how real journalism is dead, as AP themselves admit, further down the story, past the point at which 99% of America's short-sighted, closed-minded partisans will read, that:
So far, however, he and other leaders say they have seen no evidence of any threats, and officials said the vetting hadn't flagged any issues that they were aware of.
You’d think they’d simply lie and make up stories about a threat if that’s what they wanted to convey and are so nefarious. Instead they told us that it was overblown themselves? Terrible propagandists. They should take a learning annex from Laura Ingraham, who knows perfectly well the way to keep people riled up and buying MyPillows is to shout hysterical inflammatory lies at them all day.
Guess you didn't actually read the article.
Nobody thinks that when some terrorist does kill some people on January 20 that you’ll be here issuing retractions. You’ll just be making more excuses.
Tell us more about how journalism is done.
You can stop spazzing out now.
I am a moderate lefty who believes in little else but calm and table manners.
What do you think the commies under your bed want Biden to do to you?
I assume they would love for Biden to adopt their policy proposals, like everyone else.
They mostly want to install Bernie as dictator, actually.
It’ll be hard to get Biden to do that to me.
What's cute is how they rejected guns on cultural grounds while the militia people gobbled the guns up like candy every time a Democrat somewhere was elected. Good luck with the revolution in this country, commie kids. Maybe this will be the first time in history bad ideas won absolute power without any guns.
"You can stop spazzing out now."
Doubtful.
So the Associated Press is "clickbait" now. How would you describe Jack Posobiec? Brave purveyor of truth?
Here is the AP article, by the way:
https://apnews.com/article/biden-inauguration-joe-biden-capitol-siege-ap-top-news-857bacc273e16ff82dc9fefed1242ae8
I don't see anything wrong with it. What don't you like? It is straightforward reporting on an interview with the Army Secretary. They're concerned about the idea that someone in the National Guard might be planning something, and they're asking the FBI to vet them. I don't know if their concern is well-founded or not, and neither does the AP. But they are simply reporting what he said and did, not passing judgment on his decision-making abilities. Isn't that what we all want from reporters?
But I can see how it may be viewed as besmirching the honor of the National Guard. If a loyal soldier read that article I can see how he/she might be offended at the suggestion that there might be an assassin in its ranks. But what should the AP do? Put a trigger warning next to their articles?
Nothing other than assuming those who are not thrilled with droolin' Joe must be Trump terrorists.
Nope, nothing at all.
The article doesn't say that at all. Sheesh.
They are vetting soldiers without any actual evidence of threat you retarded fuck.
Well, the vetting may have flagged issues they remain unaware of. That seems to happen more often than I’d like. We will find out soon enough.
No no no. Simply reporting on what the Army Secretary said means that AP is "clickbait" and "serving an agenda".
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/it-was-non-event-msm-forced-admit-nationwide-pro-trump-protest-panic-was-overblown
Even The Guardian was forced to admit:
"At heavily fortified state capitals across USA on Sunday, law enforcement & media outnumbered protesters, with only a handful of armed men showing up to planned demonstrations."
Some local news agencies flipped the narrative, proclaiming that the lack of turnout of "domestic terrorists" was due to the outsize presence of National Guardsmen nationwide.
We suspect otherwise, as we have already seen numerous walkbacks of hyperbolic headlines and statements from various deep-state-loyal agencies:
After FBI Director Christopher Wray told Vice President Mike Pence in a briefing on Thursday that the bureau was seeing an “extensive amount of concerning online chatter” of potential threats before and during the inauguration, Ken Cuccinelli, acting deputy secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, said on CNN’s “New Day," that “there’s no specific credible threats at this point in time. There’s just this raised level of tension. And so we’re raising our security level. And we’re doing it across the country,”
After local Federal prosecutors claimed “Strong evidence, including Chansley’s own words and actions at the Capitol, supports that the intent of the Capitol rioters was to capture and assassinate elected officials in the United States government,”...the top federal prosecutor in Washington, D.C. said on Friday there is no “direct evidence” to suggest that rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol had formed “kill capture teams.”
So who could blame Americans for not trusting the media or the government?
As Jordan Schachtel concludes, the FBI seems to be grossly exaggerating the capabilities of a fringe network of activists that does not have the capacity to mobilize significant numbers of people. Certainly, they do not present a threat of “insurrection,” or anything close. In leaking these bulletins to the media, it appears that the Bureau is once again, after four years of “Trump-Russia” madness, engaged in unsavory activism and attempts to manufacture a political narrative.
The way the world works now is, you take the most neurotic position possible, define that as “conscientious”, and then dictate policy from there.
It’s considered a feature that huge, disproportionate over reactions that do more harm than good are the price we pay for the new neurotic life.
Is Portland still on fire?
Conspiracy theory.
I broke down and sent this guy 50 bucks because of analysis like this. Didn't send Reason a dime.
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/greenwald-explains-how-bidens-neoliberal-policies-fuel-rise-smarter-more-stable-donald
Banning Content in the Name of Protecting 'Biden Brand'
"If you wanted to go on Twitter and post a link to the New York Post reporting on the Hunter Biden laptop, which contain a lot of information about what Joe Biden was doing in Ukraine, what he was doing in China when he was the presidential frontrunner, you couldn't even post the link. They had banned it. Facebook algorithmically announced through a long-time Democratic Party operative networks at Facebook that they were going to suppress the spread of that story. That was stunning intervention on the part of Silicon Valley in the ability to do journalism, in the election on behalf of a candidate that Silicon Valley overwhelmingly was supporting. And since the Democrats won, every time the Democrats call on Apple, or Google, or Facebook, or Twitter to censor, those companies comply because they're in debt together. There is an alliance between Silicon Valley billionaires, and oligarchs, and monopolist on the one hand and the Democratic party on the other. And it's now all about to merge with the power of the state."
"I found it really interesting that numerous world leaders, including ones who have famously acrimonious relationship with President Trump stood up and very vehemently denounced Twitter's decision and Facebook's decision to ban President Trump from the platform, that includes Chancellor Angela Merkel, who's a center-right politician with whom Trump has argued and bickered almost his entire presidency. It includes President Lopez Obrador in Mexico, who's a leftist president, who very eloquently and vehemently warned that Silicon Valley is becoming essentially a world media leader. Something greater than nation states, because--and ministers high up in the Macron government in France, obviously who also don't love Donald Trump, denounced it in similar terms. Why? Because they're extremely concerned that these private tech monopolists who they cannot battle--the EU has been trying to break up Google and break up Facebook for years, and they simply can't because they're too powerful, are also coming for their democracies."
Give Greenwald money because he tells you what you want to hear. Got it.
Lol. Jeff thinks greenwald is invalid now because Jeff is a retarded fatwit.
Incidentally, do you think Zero Hedge is trustworthy? If so, why?
Here Lying Jeffy insults Gaear, then follows that up with a question that he expects him to answer. And if Gaear were to respond in kind with an insult, Jeff would cry about him not arguing in good faith.
"Incidentally, do you think Zero Hedge is trustworthy? If so, why?"
No I don't. Got any cite to show they're wrong?
Amazing: None.
Like you, two times a day. But they probably know when they are lying.
It’s starting to seem like GG might have bought into the cult. He knows the power of governments well enough. I’m sure he’ll make great strides convincing the Biden Administration to care about the rights of companies that didn’t exist 20 years ago deciding which slanders about Joe Biden’s family to spread to billions of people.
Jeff and Tony; just like Hitch, he'll be booted of the res since he's capable of seeing what they ain't.
To be fair, Merkel objected because she thinks the government should o=have the exclusive power to ban people from speaking. The dictator is never far below the German pol's facade.
So I briefly looked at Credder. I don't have high hopes for it. It seems like a glorified version of Reddit, in terms of its voting system. Basically "expert journalists" as well as users vote on the credibility of articles and sources. You can see the sources that are rated as "credible" at least in terms of general-purpose news, and they are ones that the usual suspects complain about: NPR, Vox, Yahoo News, The Atlantic, Wired. It's got ProPublica and ArsTechnica up there too. No Fox News or Breitbart or Daily Wire or Zero Hedge. So I guess this site is for those who are already not on the right to try to judge credible sites for everything not-on-the-right. It might help a little, maybe.
Didn't try out the other one, maybe it is better.
Remember when you trashed John Solomons site as not trustworthy because they didn't cite their sources... even though every fucking story has a tab that links every citation document?
You dont give a fuck about credibility. You care about narrative. See Glen Greenwald comment above.
One more thing. If I’m right and all ideologies, all of them, are fictions, stories we tell ourselves to organize our meaningless lives, think about the implications for you, if you can stand the horror of the thought of how thoroughly you were cucked by smarter men.
What is libertarianism? The one true ideology that accurately describes nature, unlike all the others, even the ones with science on their side? (PS, that’s not fucking you, as you’ve amply and proudly admitted.) Is that what it is?
Or is it just what it appears to be? An ideology suited for people most willing to give up their power and money to the guys who invented it. The ones who call up politicians to make tax policy. What if you’re wrong and it’s all a crock of made up horseshit to get resources in the hands of the few on the most flimsiest of excuses, that amount to “God says I shouldn’t pay taxes”?
Of course if any of it actually worked in practice, you wouldn’t need to assert any of the absurd ethical abominations you live by, such as a poor person who steals a loaf of bread is worse than a rich person who spends $250 million to secure a $4 billion tax cut.
I’d hate to be a libertarian coming to the realization that he’s the fuck toy of billionaires who probably didn’t even need you in the first place. They may know their stories are lies same as all the others. All the better if they believe the lies themselves. The lies about who deserves what food and medicine, based on a concept of ethics and rights some asshole pulled out of thin air. How very, very sad that would be for you.
The oligarchs always hated not having any unpaid labor anymore. So they went out and paid a few professors to peddle their nonsense, and they got it, and you’re their slave boys.
"One more thing. If I’m right and all ideologies, all of them, are fictions, stories we tell ourselves to organize our meaningless lives, think about the implications for you, if you can stand the horror of the thought of how thoroughly you were cucked by smarter men..."
It's hard to imagine such PoMo idiocy from someone other than Sokal trying to spoof the next air-headed editor; at least he wasn't purposely (or stupidly) mean-spirited at the time.
>100 million innocent humans were murdered by leftist ideologues in the 20th century and our fucking lefty ignoramus thinks they are 'fantasy'
The Monday swing-shift Tony reads more than the other Tonys.
You really wasted all that time typing that?
I can think of bigger wastes of time.
Like say spending all your brain energy supporting an ideology wherein you give your money to the already rich and powerful and then thank them for the freedom.
It’s all fiction. Everything you believe is a fiction, same as me. Only one of us is interested in using it to help people have a remotely decent life before they turn back into dust.
Ethics are whatever we can get people to agree on. You got them to agree on the ethic that a tax is a worse problem than mass starvation. You bought into that.
It’s not that you bought into something, it’s that you bought into something so precisely designed to treat you like a little bitch.
Tony believes that your billionaires are megalomaniacal lying evildoers and *his* billionaires are public-spirited citizens who simply happen to have an interest in interest in left-wing causes.
"Our billionaires are better than your billionaires," unfortunately, doesn't have the same ring to it, does it?
Nor does it carry the same level of STUPID as assuming the cause of the deaths of millions and millions is a 'fiction'.
Not what I said.
I said there is no correct way to do human society, there are only ends and means.
However, billionaires, mine or yours, must find it quite convenient to have people believing that their tax rates are a more important moral question than whether a poor person gets cancer treatment. And in fact, they have an answer for you!
That wasn't written on any stone, any more than Scientology. That's why it's especially silly to treat it like the truth.
"Not what I said."
Yes, you didn't mention *your* billionaires - perhaps because it would have taken the sails out of your indignation.
And *your* billionaires aren't simply benevolent philanthropists who happen to agree with you (nor do they differ from libertarian billionaires about the desirability of helping poor cancer patients. Your billionaires simply have different - and frequently worse - ideas about how to help the poor).
No, your billionaires are setting the agenda for your side almost as much as in your fantasies of libertarianism.
Unless you consider it a coincidence that progressive policies happen to favor rich tech and media companies at the expense of their competitors, allow rich megacorporations to recruit cheap labor from abroad, gives them tools to kill off inconvenient poor people in abortion, etc.
On the contrary, "my" billionaires are probably more directly responsible for Trump than the Republicans' billionaires. Call it even. They can go fuck a duck too.

"Not what I said.
I said there is no correct way to do human society, there are only ends and means."
"Maybe the reason they (as shitstain here) try to make us feel is because they’re incapable of making us think. It is beyond their capabilities…”
I simply want people to coexist and cooperative voluntarily with each other. I understand that doesn’t appeal to everyone, especially people who have little to offer anyone else.
However, I’m definitely not in the “here’s your free stuff!” Group. I’m well inside the “you need to pay your fair share” group. I’m targeted for every tax increase and excluded from most deductions and credits.
So, even if what you say is true, then I’d really be a sucker for agreeing with you. Is that your point?
Rich people have every incentive to believe whatever they need to keep every cent in their own accounts. People in general will adopt any and all beliefs that help justify their continued accumulation of wealth.
It's why a starving person is equally right to believe that it's OK to steal from a rich person. The poor person is even more right, if you believe in any basic morality.
But right now I'm more interested in keeping those of us in power who believe they have to submit their ideas to popular will before they get their way.
Or, more optimistically, I'm interested in crushing yet another in an endless chain of failed revolutions asserting some idiot as God. That goes for revolutionaries of the left and right, but right now only one of those is a problem for your bank account.
“If you believe in any basic morality.”
But you don’t.
Only because morality is a story we made up out of thin air.
But as humans, one of the things that makes us truly different from all the other sacks of goo on this planet is that we have narratives. We fight over ideas more than stuff. And this biological innovation of abstract thought, unique as far as we're aware, has served us well. We dominated the planet with the cooperation it enabled.
If there's something I believe in, it's not wasting the powerful tools nature has given us on stupid shit. Stupid shit like "Thou shalt not tax billionaires."
Once you realize it's simply a lie someone made up, you'll see how audacious it was for them to even try it on you.
What you’re embracing is the definition of amoral.
"What you’re embracing is the definition of amoral."
"At least the carpet tied the room together"
"At least he made the trains run on time"
We are not dealing with an educated or intelligent agent here.
Oh, I figured out when I was a child that morality was made up. I got a clue when the people shouting the most about correct morality worshipped the corpse of a torture victim and told me I was burning alive for all eternity because of where I stuck my dick.
The interesting part is realizing that everything's made up, even government, even markets, even basic simpleton morality like don't eat babies. Who's gonna stop us? Only each other.
"Oh, I figured out when I was a child that morality was made up."
Ken has shit stain's number:
"...But the fact that they don’t seem to learn anything–knowledge wise or in terms of critical thinking–may be consistent with the hypothesis that they’re just not that bright. And we shouldn’t necessarily assume that Binion, Boehm, or Britschgi are fundamentally different from them.
Maybe the reason they try to make us feel is because they’re incapable of making us think. It is beyond their capabilities…”
Tony's infantile 'revelation' explains a LOT.
You sound absolutely revolting.
Not as revolting as a preacher who tells a child he's going to burn in hell unless he wastes his life fucking a vagina he hates.
Who's more revolting than that? Donald Trump isn't even that revolting.
People who get that morality is a story are not the ones you have to worry about. It's the ones who insist that their morality is the only one they will tolerate. And yes, you should be wary of the left doing it too.
But the guy who wins the contest of biggest shithead is the one who tells you that you can't think for yourself or do what you want with your life because otherwise he couldn't afford his fleet of Cadillacs.
It makes sense now why you don’t understand libertarianism. You don’t believe in morals, or property.
I believe they are concepts that do in fact exist. Like Santa Claus.
“…We often think Tony, Shrike, and ChemJeff are being dishonest–especially when they don’t seem to learn anything from having their arguments shredded and smeared in their faces everyday for years.
We have no better example.
The funny thing about the internet is how easy it is to scroll past things you're never going to read.
You’re asserting that all belief systems are fictions that people adopt in a self-serving way, even poor people. And then you say that they’re really more right in some objective way based on morality.
You’re either being completely inconsistent, or you’re arguing based on counter-factually that aren’t real, ie, basic morality. You can’t claim a moral high ground after you define morality as a self-serving fiction choice.
I am not claiming any ground. I am being specific that my only real life goal is to be rich and play with toys and hopefully never die.
The best way for that to happen is for people to listen to scientists and academics rather than raving lunatics. There's a reason the lunatics always get around to killing the scientists and academics.
And that's the reason they fail too, because rejecting science is bad policy if your goal is achieving anything.
There are uncountable dead philosophies that exist only as molecules in space. They all died because they failed to ensure the survival and reproductive fitness of the people who followed them. I really only care about other people to the extent that their mass deaths affect my wallet or my conscience. I hate feeling bad. Make the bad stop. Vote Democrat. It's all I got, because this is where I live.
"I am not claiming any ground. I am being specific that my only real life goal is to be rich and play with toys and hopefully never die."
“…We often think Tony, Shrike, and ChemJeff are being dishonest–especially when they don’t seem to learn anything from having their arguments shredded and smeared in their faces everyday for years. Science is great, but policies around about scientific facts. They’re about values. And values are totally in the realm of ethics.
Most of the reason people reject Nazis and racists is ethical grounds, not scientific grounds. If your have to kill ethics to save the world, you’ve already ceded the ethical high ground, and all that’s left is violence. I don’t think the benefit of justifying any of your own behavior is worth the price of moral equivalence of horrible human beings.
To put it shortly: you’re way closer to Nazis and racists than I am philosophically, and I don’t feel like getting closer.
Absolutely. Science has nothing to say about ethical values. It can only give us the best available approximation of facts, should they be relevant.
So I’m the opposite of a Nazi, not because science says so, but because my ethics do. My ethics are heavily informed by questions of practicality, however. I don’t expect people to be anything but self-interested, and any group of people can be turned into fascists if they perceive that route as better for them than the alternative. Unfortunately it seems our species has to try ever bad idea before we get to the good ones.
But regardless of what you want to do, science isn’t optional, especially if you want all its handy tools for doing and understanding stuff. And how could we possibly know it’s an ethical abomination to continue burning fossil fuels without science telling us the facts about what happens when we do?
So you’re not saying the Nazis are wrong in some objective sense. You just subjectively disagree with them.
Ok.
I’ll go out on a limb and claim there’s objective morality, holocausts are evil, and anyone who disagrees is wrong. Call me old-fashioned.
Tony, libertarianism properly understood isn't about billionaires, or even money. It really isn't.
At its core, it is humility. It is the understanding that no one knows you better than you. Other people can offer advice to you as to how you live your life, but ultimately no one but you has the moral authority to make that decision.
That's what it is about.
And I'm sure they'll get around to finding a few crumbs of freedom for you and me once they're done insisting very adamantly on the immediate necessity and moral righteousness of any and all tax cut, even if no spending is cut to compensate. It's their money, after all. They said so.
Did you even read what I wrote?
Yeah, it's a set of policy preferences you stamp with the word "freedom." I have a stamp too. And a kazoo.
See, I'm not sure what being left alone means. Sitting here in my comfy house with my comfy stuff, I can't really imagine a lifestyle so different that it requires others or myself to make significant changes to how we act. Of course, someone is welcome to give me more money. I'll make up any excuse you like for why that's an OK change to make.
But should the people in my neighborhood be allowed to do more things that are now considered crimes? Sure. Mostly drugs, though we'd just usher in a new era of reactionary drug policy once they start dying in numbers.
Otherwise my freedom is only restricted by how few zeroes there are on Christmas bonus.
We have more freedom than anyone who ever lived, and it's not thanks to the natural outcomes of Darwinian selection in a state of nature, it's because of policies designed for specifically that purpose. And a tax isn't a damn violation. It's how we pay for it all.
The difficulty is that the progressive movement today, while it talks a lot about Teh Poor, seems to get most excited about abortion, harassing nuns, and compulsory cake-baking than about, say, protecting the jobs, educational opportunities and so forth of poor people. "Teh Poor" sometimes seems like rube-bait flag-waving rhetoric.
In fact, the progressives are doing what they used to love accusing the "Right" of doing - whipping up their base over cultural issues rather than focusing urgently on economic issues.
Of course I do them an injustice - they don't pretend that economic and social issues are separated - and strictly speaking they aren't.
But watch what happens if some Democrat decides to run on a progressive economic platform while showing flexibility on cultural issues. Such a person would be well advised not to stay long in the Democratic party if (s)he is ambitious.
Your critique of white progressives is not without merit, and it's certainly not lacking for attention. White progressives can get ahead of themselves.
But it's a problem for college campuses and Vermont, not humanity. There's always gonna be annoying leftists. The important thing is that you recognize when the annoying leftists are being fixated upon by the right and made into caricatures of every single political idea to the left of you.
There's a nut of truth in every fascist shit sundae. All you have to be able to do is tell the difference between a pronoun and a pogrom.
It's remarkable how eloquent you can be in spouting stuff that's basically silly and misleading.
I'm really not sure where you've been, but this stuff about it only happening on college campuses is highly dated.
And I'm not sure how you limit the culture-war stuff to *white* progressives.
Every war is a culture war. Just pick the winning side, that's my advice. My other advice is pick the side with the scientists on its side. It's not a sure bet. Sometimes the fascists kill the scientists.
Scientists vs. fascists, eh?
Well, first the fascists.
By this time you presumably have accepted that rioting and political violence are wrong, which side seems to have *more* violent brownshirted fascists?
Now the scientists:
Did scientists use the famous scientific method to prove one party or faction to be superior to the other? Or are you thinking of scientists pronouncing on political issues outside their field of expertise?
Republicans have more fascists. That was easy.
I'm not the one defining all political protest as fascism. I'm calling Nazis fascists. Actual Nazis. The ones who violated the capitol building?
And not just because they wanted to seize power for themselves either, though that they clearly wanted to do. These supporters of the Republicans. It's because they were card-carrying members of the Nazis. Think they aren't here? They are. Well, many of them are in cages now, which is a good start.
Scientists cannot prove anything about anything's inferiority or superiority except scientific theories and methods.
I'm not saying that conservative and liberals have had scientists among them. I'm saying right now the Republicans actively reject the concept of science. You should be surprised if they have any support from the scientific community at all, except a handful of experts desperately trying to hang onto their job so it's not given to Jared Kushner.
“…We often think Tony, Shrike, and ChemJeff are being dishonest–especially when they don’t seem to learn anything from having their arguments shredded and smeared in their faces everyday for years. If you engage any of those fucking lefty ignoramuses, accept your dealing with fucking lefty ignoramuses incapable of he mental efforts to imagine there is fact and fantasy
They are not capable.
Actually, Tony, it's a belief that only you know what's best for you. Do you doubt that?
If you believe that, then why grant others coercive authority over you to tell you what to do? They don't know better than you how to live your life. So why let them?
That belief is wrong. I don't know what's best for me. I am so ignorant on that point that I would never in a million years drive over any bridge I designed.
Why on earth would I trust a system of laws I designed for myself? And why would anyone else go along with it?
Just say you want more freedom for employers and less for employees and customers because you think that gives you a better society than the alternatives. We don't need the feel-good but inapplicable truisms.
Lol. God damn jeff is so self unaware.
I think Fox grew their news market share via their sports and sitcoms. People viewing a game would get little doses of their news and get hooked. That went on for decades and now it seems like people went to Fox initially for news. That’s not what I recall.
Fox helped Jerry Springerize politics.
I stay away from TV news. It’s not information, it’s a product. People are figuring that out.
LOL people like GG prove that there's a real hunger for actual journalism in this world. The $50 I sent him was the best money I've spent this year.
Reason can't sniff his jock.
"But a country, on some level, gets the politicians it deserves, just as it gets the press it deserves."
this is the crux of it. the media, regardless of which side the particular outlet favors, definitely holds some of the blame.... as all have cast of any sense of responsibility to break a story as early as possible in favor of their targeted demographic's confirmation bias..... but we are the reason they do this. we eat it up. we reward it. and even more importantly, we do it even when it isn't the media. if you look at the election fraud disinformation, most of it isn't from a media source at all. it is some random person trying to reach conclusions on flawed initial data, flat out lies or misunderstandings, or deliberately misleading memes.... that are spread all over social media before a single "media" outlet even looks at them. it isn't real news, it is drunk and deluded people talking shit in their mom's basement.... and it is being treated by many as if it is real... i think one of the things that made this so much bigger was that our president was one of the people falling for the BS, and so he repeated it making it something the regular media covered by default.
we, as a country and a society need to pull our heads out of our asses, and stop believing everything that some random person tells us that we want to believe. the concept of truth and facts needs to return, regardless of how convenient those facts are. we need to learn that social media is not a viable source for our picture of reality..... and we need to not subscribe to regular media that operates on an algorithm like social media click generating model.
People haven't changed. Only the drug delivery systems have changed. Maybe we could get rid of Twitter and bring back smoking, see if we don't live longer.
The interesting question to me is not who the fascists choose to scapegoat and mass murder, it's why it's so frequently the Jews. If I were a fascist, I'd make something up to target. What's the difference?
Your problems are the fault of ... uh... let me see, cops, I hate cops. No, shit, I need them to shoot people. Uh... weebles! Kill the weebles! What is that even?
I have it. The reason your life sucks is because of trans people. And. Their. Pronouns.
But then, of course, the Jews always sneak back in. You know those Jews! A small minority of white people, and they're in the back of the mind of every militia dork and jihadist alike. Just bizarre.
Their might be an explanation other than Ken's to explain that drunken rant, but it's hard to imagine.
He says after Cuomo literally targeted the Jews and said they were spreading disease....
A little tweaking and that could be a perfect nugget of fascism. The circularity. The absurdity. The randomness.
Wait the man talking about systematic targeting below doesn't like it when it doesn't fit his narrative needs?
If you think civilization doesn't exist to provide for the basic needs of everyone, you have been sold the biggest crock of shit anyone ever shat, and that is some fine competition let me tell you.
Civilization exists only to do that. It's our alternative to nasty, brutish, and short. Remember?
If there are starving people and obscenely wealthy people in the same place, someone's not keeping up their end of the bargain, period, whatever moral fairy tales you want to throw out to see if they stick.
There's always a guy whose basic need is to rule everyone else with an iron dick. So now, turning that guy into a car salesman is my basic need.
At least the old school ones sacrificed children to the cause. You guys sidle up next to the fetus-is-person people and declare that the contribution you intend to make to society in return for your power is, *checks notes*, ah, fuck all and less. To give yourself and your offspring free money for eternity. Well, how thoughtful.
"There’s always a guy whose basic need is to rule everyone else with an iron dick. So now, turning that guy into a car salesman is my basic need."
By empowering the left's favorite corporations to be larger and more powerful?
You have a curious way of addressing disparities of wealth.
That was about addressing disparities in temperament. We have capitalism so that people who otherwise would be kings are now cheesy reality TV stars. God help us if one of those ever became head of state.
If temperament were the issue, progressives would have plenty of politicians in their own camp to denounce.
I mention this to show, not that there's a progressive standard, but that there's a single standard which they try to obscure under the guise of a double standard - the single standard is to demand submission on every issue.
So elect the fascists because you hate submission? I don't get it.
You mean they demand submission on issues you think will directly affect you. Or even ones that mildly annoy you, like trans pronouns.
Not that I get into this sort of thing too much, but that's the whole privilege conversation. One group of people wants government to stop telling them what light bulb or straw to use. Another group of people wants to stop being systematically targeted and murdered by their own society.
Which should we spend our precious attention on? Oh, I know, which one do white people care about?
"I don’t get it."
Of course the fucking lefty ignoramus 'doesn't get it'. The fucking lefty ignoramus doesn't get it for a very good reason: The fucking lefty ignoramus is a fucking lefty ignoramus:
“…We often think Tony, Shrike, and ChemJeff are being dishonest–especially when they don’t seem to learn anything from having their arguments shredded and smeared in their faces everyday for years. But the fact that they don’t seem to learn anything–knowledge wise or in terms of critical thinking–may be consistent with the hypothesis that they’re just not that bright. "Another group of people wants to stop being systematically targeted and murdered by their own society."
You mean unborn human beings? Are you thinking of the disproportionate number of black people killed in abortion?
Fetuses don't have wants.
You can't know that.
I can. What did you want when you were a fetus? We’re you making your entrepreneurial moves already?
Nobody has wants until at least about age 3. They do have needs, however.
And it’s nothing whether something has wants that determines their rights anyway. You can choose to decide that a fetus deserves personhood rights. You can choose to decide your cat has them for all science cares. It’s just an assertion.
What you don’t get to do is make the assertion and then pretend that all the consequences are out of your control, such as forcing a quarter of all women to spend the rest of their lives in a cage for first-degree murder. You will understand if other people decide that in the freedom equation, it’s simply easier to treat a fetus as every society since the beginning of time has until televangelists came along: as not persons.
"Another group of people wants to stop being systematically targeted and murdered by their own society."
The problem being, that that is another lie.
So is the idea that you are harmed in any way by people you will never meet using pronouns you don’t like.
It’s all about who had the ear of politicians, I guess.
Man you really know how to exaggerate on everything. You should try with people who want to believe you.
Reply to tony
Here's a thought; Bad-News makes Good-Media and we all know ALL the Bad-News comes out of Democratic ran cities. We've been told over and over and over again that they have serious problems with racism (which clearly shows in their comments above), serious problems with being sexist, serious problems with police corruption, serious problems with wealth inequality, serious problems with the poor, etc, etc, etc, etc....
WHY would anyone vote for ALL those problems??? Entertainment?
Misery LOVES company... And the Democratic National Socialist Party must implement their tyrannical plans-of-misery on the rest of the Nation until every one of them looks like Detroit.
Why don't you Democratic Voters FIX your own problems before pretending you have any right to tell others how to FIX theirs.
The Nazis calling their target du jour "Nazis" is some moonshine fascism. The real stuff.
No label matters to a fascist except to the extent it can be weaponized. There is no principle but power. If you want people who at least try to apply other principles than that, you're not voting for any Nazi.
It's never about anything. The Jews didn't do anything to anyone. Neither did the Tutsis. It's about the raw political force of strong emotions, and there's an abundance of strong emotions ripe for the picking in our brains where the "scary other people" live.
What a whimsical fascist to turn the scary other into fascists, just for shits and giggles.
But it's not just for shits and giggles, is it? Because now some innocent onlooker can't tell the difference between the fascist and the liberal he's calling a fascist. At least until the oven door closes.
Then suddenly everyone figures out that being asked to be polite to trans people isn't the same thing as oppression.
Nazis are socialists.
National socialists...
"There is no principle but power."
But you say that moralitiy is made up, that you are completely utilitarian. Your base philosophy of governance is that there is no principle but power.
Try as I do to imagine a type of society where there isn’t a giant mace symbolizing law next to a set of scales, I can’t figure out how it would work if there’s not, at bottom, the threat of physical violence if people don’t abide by the rules. People are assholes. And every libertarian understands it just fine, since government stepping in to protect their wholly invented claim to property doesn’t have force as a last resort, but a first one, if you please.
Principles other than might makes right come into it if we manage to design a system where law makes right instead, meaning that even the biggest sociopathic tyrant simply has no physical ability to seize power.
You see how fragile even that arrangement can be. I saw it on CNN. Imagine if Trumpers could simply take power. Imagine someone worse.
"Imagine if Trumpers could simply take power" -- and give it back to the people instead of making Revolutionary Plans on how to Rule others using 'The Weather Changes', 'Sex Identity', 'Color Identity', 'Wealth Identity' and a hundred other pathetic excuses to regulate the living tar out of the people.
Or probably more to your underlying point; The power to properly authenticate the election process instead of having whoopsie-daisies all over the place.
What’s funny is the fascists know more than most that culture is just a story we tell ourselves and agree on. They also know that the only thing people ever choose to fight wars over are ridiculous cultural differences that aren’t rational and mean nothing.
I don’t want to blow your mind or anything, but you know what gender is? You guessed it, it’s just a story we tell ourselves and agree on.
Yeah it`s Possible...Anybody can earn 250$+ daily... You can earn from 6000-12000 a month or even more if you work as a full time job...It's easy, just follow instructions on this page, read it carefully from start to finish... It's a flexible job But a good

Continuing to process Washington debates of this sort primarily through the prism of “Democrat v. Republican” or even “left v. right” is a sure ticket to the destruction of core rights. There are times when powers of repression and censorship are aimed more at the left and times when they are aimed more at the right, but it is neither inherently a left-wing nor a right-wing tactic. It is a ruling class tactic, and it will be deployed against anyone perceived to be a dissident to ruling class interests and orthodoxies no matter where on the ideological spectrum they reside.
If you identify as a conservative and continue to believe that your prime enemies are ordinary leftists, or you identify as a leftist and believe your prime enemies are Republican citizens, you will fall perfectly into the trap set for you. Namely, you will ignore your real enemies, the ones who actually wield power at your expense: ruling class elites, who really do not care about “right v. left” and most definitely do not care about “Republican v. Democrat” — as evidenced by the fact that they fund both parties — but instead care only about one thing: stability, or preservation of the prevailing neoliberal order.

This is why he gets my money and you don't, reason.
Most newspapers told the truth when Trump told lies. Most newspapers said Trump lost the 2020 election. However, too many newspapers condition people to accept lies, by sticking to the big lie themselves: When a boy, who is perhaps disappointed he is not a girl, decides to pretend to be a girl, he thereby becomes a girl; and they call him a "transgendered girl," and they call him "she" and count it hate speech to speak the truth, that he is still a boy. I have seen a newspaper saying a man called the trans person by the wrong pronouns; but the man (furious that the trans person walked in on the man's wife in a gym locker room) called the trans person what he is: He.
"Facts are stubborn things, and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence." --John Adams.
"Boys are boys from the beginning. Girls are girls right from the start." --Mister Rogers.
How could it possibly matter to you?
Israel and Palestine have enough land and food between them to build an economy in which nobody lacks housing or food. The only reason they don’t, and there is not a single other reason, is two competing fictions about the same Santa Claus.
You will not probe the depths of biology and find any such thing as gender. You will find chromosomes, but any idiot knows that biological sex isn’t what anyone is talking about when they say gender. Gender is by definition the cultural associations we make, and it often but not always is related to biological sex.
It’s why we say women can wear menswear and it’s not just a version of womenswear. Nature does not tell us what men are supposed to wear. The beefiest beefcakes of American history wore wigs and heels. Are you starting to understand? Gender is not just fluid, it is 100% an invention. You’re not mad about anyone’s genitals. Very few people are taking out their genitals for you. You’re mad that people are defying cultural fictions you think you need to feel comfortable. And why you think that’s your right you can explain to a psychiatrist, because it’s no politics of freedom I am aware of.
The problem with media isn't the system, it's the people in it. They're mostly Marxists who drank the kool aid in college and seriously believe that everything is propaganda, so they may as well root for the home team. They don't acknowledge objective truth because they don't have to. Look at how many people seriously believe that Trump's speech incited a riot even though hundreds of thousands of people at DC heard that same speech and did not riot as a result. Look at how nobody will quote the speech or discuss how it made them feel. Notice how one of our elected officials was brave enough to ask if a single rioter said they were inspired by Trump's speech and he made the narcissistic talking heads in Congress have an awkward silence for half a minute before they started yapping again.
You forgot to mention that the press failed a looong time ago, saw it as a victory and kept right on going. It may have been difficult to see they were off course in the beginning but after thousands of miles the distance between "news" and fact is now much greater than that between "news" and opinion.

Trump thinks the problem is the press has been too hostile. Trump's critics think the problem is the press has been too pro-Trump—"captive," in Schumer's words.
One of these two beliefs is, on net, objectively true. And likely easily quantifiable. (In fact, I'd be surprised if some media watchdog group hasn't done so.)
