Rep. Peter Meijer, on Impeachment Vote: 'There's an Assumption That People Will Try To Kill Us'
As Mitch McConnell and Liz Cheney break for impeachment, the freshman GOP congressman who succeeded Justin Amash says that Republicans who are "going to vote our conscience tomorrow" expect to be assaulted.

Citing "people familiar with his thinking," The New York Times reported Tuesday afternoon that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R–Ky.) "has told associates that he believes President Donald Trump committed impeachable offenses and that he is pleased that Democrats are moving to impeach him, believing that it will make it easier to purge him from the party."
This startling development on the eve of Wednesday's planned House impeachment vote was soon followed by two others: Rep. Liz Cheney (R–Wy.), the third-ranked Republican in the House, announced in a blunt statement that she will vote to impeach. "None of this would have happened without the President….There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution." Vice President Mike Pence, meanwhile, dismissed the House's attempt to have him invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office.
At least two other Republicans, Reps. Adam Kinzinger (Ill.) and John Katko (N.Y.) have joined Cheney and the House Democrats in favor of impeachment. A third who has said he's "strongly considering" it is Rep. Peter Meijer (R–Mich.), the freshman successor to Justin Amash.
Meijer, who attracted attention with his statements in a Reason interview published Friday (and reiterated in a Detroit News op-ed Saturday) that some of his GOP colleagues "knew in their heart of hearts that they should've voted to certify [the presidential election], but some had legitimate concerns about the safety of their families," made additional troubling statements on Fox Business Network's Kennedy this evening.
The Afghanistan and Iraq veteran, who favors a censure of the president but is officially undecided on impeachment, said he wished he could bring a gun to work, and then explained why.
"Our assumption," Meijer said, "especially those of us who went in knowing we were going to vote to certify the election, knowing that was going to draw their ire, and especially those who are, you know, going to vote our conscience tomorrow on impeachment…there's an assumption that people will try to kill us."
Washington remains on the kind of high violence alert not seen since September 2001. President Trump today warned that impeachment would bring "tremendous danger" to the country, causing "tremendous anger." Meanwhile, the Justice Department and FBI said Tuesday that the new information forthcoming in investigations into the Capitol riots will shock the conscience.

I have to admit, I am enjoying these entitled congress critters shaking in their boots. Both sides have lost any respect or sympathy from me. I'm done with them.
They *might* have shown a bit more empathy as private businesses were being attacked, security guards killed, etc.
Yet many of them dabbled in riot-sympathizing rhetoric. If they insist on talking about insurrection against the constitution (14th Amendment, Sec. 3), let's look at their advocacy.
Those of us who think riots are wrong whether you're wearing a MAGA hat or not, whether you are afflicted with "Whiteness" or carrying a "Black Lives Matter" banner - we probably represent majority opinion. I hope so. I'd like to think riots are the preference of a proportionately small group of wackos (small proportionately but menacing nonetheless).
The majority opinion you represent is finding excuses to justify police violence. Don’t try to cry, or backpedal now. More socks on here than usual.
What the heck are you yammering about this time?
Ignore the dbag. He has zero credibility anyway. Just a lowlife prog.

“Trying to justify police violence” says the guy (incorrectly) that’s justifying mob violence. Plank in your own eye, man.
He'll also justify police violence as long as it's directed at whatever group has caught his ire.
He should be afraid. For his career. Anyone who collaborates with the democrats should be hounded out of congress. Time to relentlessly primary these assholes out when they go woke.
No mercy for them.
Sexless Stranger is a Tuff Gai, but for once is actually advocating the use of BALLOTS instead of BULLETS? That's actually a pleasant surprise!
I do have to issue a general warning, though, that trumpanzees in general are dangerous beasts! They may look cute when you dress them is human clothes, but WATCH OUT!

Yup. The commies hiding as RINOs and LINOs are trying to put the genie back in the bottle. Freedom doesnt need Trump to challenge the commies who are in our government.
Americans will never give up or give in to Communism.
Lefties hate Trump so bad because he was doing something right.
They got pants-shitting scared when they saw that black and Hispanic unemployment figures had plummeted to historic lows by the end of 2019. Then Wuhan SARS came along and the Ds, as they are wont to do, didn't let a tragedy go to waste.

"They censored us and wouldn't let us fight for Trump online. That's how I know he really won the election."
I agree the mob was utterly terrifying. But that's the essence of their ideology and the movement is crumbling under its own cowardice and hypocrisy.
Everything the extreme Right warned us about is coming to pass... because of the actions of the extreme Right. And as near as I can tell, that was the goal.
Like nutter evangelical fringe who work to hasten the tribulation (immanentize the eschaton), they are deliberately provoking the Left to crack down on them. Just so they can say, "See, we told you so".
"Why do you make me hit you?"
Well there's cliodynamic indications that we've come to a point in our civilization life cycle where principles and persuasion don't matter and it's the more ruthless side which will prevail. Maybe the new John Browns just mistimed their preemptive strike.
The next decade will be weird. The entire country seems to be aping California's long-term trajectory (as culture gets more Latin, politics get more Latin), and I can easily imagine a low-intensity civil war (a la Belfast) developing. There's much to dislike.
Fuck that. You can't predict the future.
Maybe not, but history does rhyme. We can quibble over the details, but it shouldn't be controversial to point out that having an excess of people with "elite" education, flat-to-declining living standards, and underwater governments is a recipe for disaster.
Peter Turchin's predicted this based on the very criteria that you cite here. The biggest indicator is an excess of elites, represented in our case by people with college degrees, without enough elite-paying jobs to provide for them.
This was far less of a concern prior to the democratization of college, starting with the GI Bill, followed by FAFSA-backed student loans, lowered admission standards, and flooding of the education market with functionally useless degrees in the humanities and liberal arts.
This was encouraged not just because a college education supposedly opened more doors for a better life, but because people with college degrees tended to be more white collar, less unionized, "Inner Party" types who would be less likely to rock the boat because they wouldn't want to risk their high-status livelihoods--unlike more radical blue collar workers like factory employees or miners, for example. It's why people with college educations in this country, for decades, largely voted Republican while blue collar workers largely voted Democrat. That dynamic is starting to switch; blue collar workers are still more radicalized culturally, but are now shifting to the cultural right, if not necessarily the economic right.
I'm sure that has much to do with it, but it's also pushed forward by the people themselves. I grew up in a blue-collar area with friends who all had blue-collar parents. I'm in my late 30's but only a smattering of our fathers are still alive; most didn't even reach 65. That sort of work takes its toll even if you don't put back a case of beer each day, so we were all pushed to be cubicle jockeys even though many of us would have been better off financially picking up the family trade.
In spite of this pressure there was still a conscious push on the part of the education establishment to put all of us on the prep-school track, as you describe. And we're going to have to deal with the side effects of it for a while.
Turchin won't come out and recommend anything, but the highest level analysis is telling us to radically upend secondary education: mandatory high school is just as much of a problem as subsidized college, as is the dearth and decline of trade schools. But the Education establishment's reaction to the minor funding/accountability reforms of the last two decades guarantees that such radicalism will not come to pass.
Political violence from the Left is either presented as justified or played down (the BLM riots and the attempted assassination of GOP congress members at baseball practice). Protests from the Right are treated with great fear and consternation even when they are peaceful (see the Tea Party). The bogeyman justifying suppressing speech on the internet and social media is always the far right, not the far left, even among allegedly conservative commentators.
It is apparent which side is more ruthless.
The culture here is not becoming more Latin. I've seen Latin culture, it's nothing like what California is experiencing. Latinos are traditionally pro-family and pro-decency. Illegal immigrants come here not to get on welfare, but to get jobs to send money BACK HOME. Hell, it's a major industry providing the instruments to send that money BACK HOME.
One illegal immigrant in my home town started his own business and over the decades it grew into a major business known worldwide. Technically owned by his son who is a citizen. But the dad started it in his garage. The Steve Jobs of his industry.
I grew up in the deep agricultural area of California. Illegal immigrants were the hardest working people I knew. The problem was not with them. The problem was the US Welfare Culture. Illegal immigrants were fine, but their children were taught by hang wringing Whites that they had no options and needed to be on welfare. My ex-girlfriend grew up in a welfare family. She was half-white, half-japanese. No Latino anywhere in sight.
I've got no problem with Latino culture.
And the politics is not becoming Latino, it's becoming Old School Europe. If it seems to resemble the sort of El Jefe shit you see in South America, it's because El Jefe got it form Old Europe too. It's nothing more than Big Boss Politicians wagging their dicks around to show their power. Sort of like Trump, but with a thin veneer of respectability that disappears the moment the sun hits it. The utter hypocrisy of California Progressivism doesn't come from Latin America, it comes from White Europe. Why the hell do you think the founding fathers got out of there?!?!
Fucking word on the immigrants. Ive been preaching the same thing since hard working money wiring mexicans put me out of the commercial kitchens 20 years ago.
Immigrants are some of the best people Ive ever known. Because of american culture, their kids turn out to be ungrateful, overweight, troublemaking turds.
The Dems could have just let Trump fade away, instead of pushing for a pointless impeachment proceeding in the last week of his term. So much for building back better, it's more of the same.
Trump and his America first agenda will never fade away.
Democrats are acting desperate because they are.
I told y'all war was coming and it is. Democrats started Civil war 2.0 and they know who will finish it. Its why the Lefties are attacking non-Democrats.
More Brandybuck bullshit.

That day the "extreme Right" became any American who didn't want to sell their Individual rights downstream to the National Socialists.
"provoking the Left to crack down on them"
Not terribly hard.
Hey Nardz! You're always advocating for violence. You gonna kill the local politician who doesn't support Dear Leader?
Know what? I'm sorry. As delusional as you are I don't want you to get SWATed. That would suck. So I withdraw all my comments responding to your calls for violence. I'm sure you didn't mean it.
Just STFU skreech.
Sure you do. You’re such a disingenuous shitweasel.
...And you have the same [WE] mob POWER mentality as every other lefty sh*t-for-brains. It's not a supports dear Gov-God Savior narrative you "mob" heads cannot escape. It's a USA defense of Individual Liberty being threatened by Power-Mad [WE] mobs (i.e. Democratic National Socialists)....
Try using your brain for a change instead of your emotions.
Poor unreason staffers. They helped start Civil war 2.0 and they will be treated just like all the commie traitors.
They need two-thirds to impeach, and that isn't happening.
"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R–Ky.) "has told associates that he believes President Donald Trump committed impeachable offenses and that he is pleased that Democrats are moving to impeach him, believing that it will make it easier to purge him from the party."
This is a terrible miscalculation.
If they actually succeeded in removing President Trump from office, it would make him the biggest populist martyr in American history. He'll become a gigantic hero.
Your racist, violent tears are delicious. Ken, you should try taking responsibility for your racism and rhetoric.
Being concerned for the economic future of the country is racist?
*Yawn*........
Look fag, blindly screaming ‘racism’ the way you do is pathetic and cliche. It’s so watered down at this point that it’s meaningless.
Further that you accuse Ken of this is even more desperate and pathetic. Considering he is one of the calmest and thoughtful posters here. Not like me.
I’m perfectly happy to tell you to fuck off. Which is still a more considerate response than you deserve.

Whats racist about what Ken said? I think Marketthug is just scared because the country is beginning to show that leftists like him will soon be history. The majority is seeing right through your inflationary use of guilt-dealing buzzwords. You lost.
If the House votes to impeach (it only takes a majority) without allowing Trump due process to defend himself, the Democrats will look like they are attempting yet another unconstitutional coup d etat (just as they did before/after Trump was elected in 2016).
The Senate cannot even hold a trial (as required by the Constitution) until after Trump's term expires, and the Constitution prohibits the Senate from holding a trial after the president has left office).
McConnell's statement welcoming the impeachment has no bearing on the process.
Never Trumpers, RINOs and several selfish GOP political opportunists are now attacking Trump (and endorsing impeachment) in an attempt to enhance their own political careers, which could backfire for many in their next primary election (as Trump supporters won't forget).
They're overplaying their hand.
It's much better for the Republicans to let the Democrats do this by themselves.
It's sort of like the long term political fallout of TARP vs. the long term political fallout of ObamaCare.
Because the Republicans were complicit in TARP, the Tea Party rose up outside of the Republican Party and could only be wooed into the Republican Party by defeating sitting Republicans who voted for TARP in the primaries. The Tea Party's biggest victims were the Republicans who voted for TARP.
Because ObamaCare was 100% owned by the Democrats, opposition to it became a rallying cry to elect Republicans.
The "storming" of the Capitol will not be a big deal outside the bubble in Washington for long, and long after the memory of that has faded, people will remember that the Democrats tried to remove Trump from office days before he was scheduled to leave anyway. Maybe the best thing that can come from this is the Democrat swamp striking back at Trump. If the swamp hates him so much, then he must be doing something right--that's what swing voters will be thinking two years from now.
The Republicans shouldn't want any part of that.
Imagine what they will do with their uncontrollable rage once Trump is gone. It won’t die.
Get ready for their treasonous ragaholic onslaught.
They're already directing it at average people.
"70 percent of Republicans now say they don’t believe the 2020 election was free and fair, a stark rise from the 35 percent of GOP voters who held similar beliefs before the election."
----Politico
https://www.politico.com/news/2020/11/09/republicans-free-fair-elections-435488
The Democrats are already more or less treating average Republicans like they're terrorists for questioning the election results. When Trump is no longer there as their whipping boy, the Democrats will go back to treating average Americans like we're the enemy.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whipping_boy
Unfortunately most people here saw that coming so its kind of in vain saying this. But maybe some lurkers here will see whats going on. However thanks for the link. At this point im looking forward to the radical left whipping all Republicans as a whole. It will be glorious when all Republicans rediscover their spines. Not sure why the left doesn't seem to be scared of that.
AOC wanted a list of anyone who was a part of the Trump admin or campaign:
https://nypost.com/2020/11/11/aoc-co-s-loathsome-plan-to-keep-lists-of-pro-trumpies/
She got a response from the Trump Accountability Project, which at the time sought to case a wider net, include anyone who donated at least $1K to Trump's campaign. Lists like that tend to lead to very bad outcomes.
Those signaling they welcome impeachment and may vote for it are making the bet that, if they denounce Trump, the left will stop treating them as evil. I understand it, but it won't work. As long as there is a single white supremacist, basement dweller with mental health issues that supports Trump, every Republican will be accused of being exactly like that guy.
Politics is downstream from culture and the culture is still out for blood.
https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN29H2WF?utm_source=reddit.com
Nah.
So?
Fuck off with your feeble leftist bullshit.
If it isn't 'feeble' DOL would have no idea how to deal with it.
I hate to break this news to Meijer, but whatever he does about impeachment will piss off some nuts on one side or the other.
Historically, in the 20th century, when you look at attacks on Congresspeople, we're talking about attacks by leftists. The Puerto Rican nationalists who shot up the Capitol in 1954 were leftists. Jim Jones, who arranged the killing of (inter alia) Congressman Leo Ryan, was a raving Marxist. The guy who shot Scalise was a socialist. I could add the killer of Robert Kennedy, who was a Senator when he was running for President and was murdered - Sirhan Sirhan was a Palestinian left-radical.
I forgot Huey Long - murdered in 1935 - I don't know if that could be classified as a leftist murder.
I also forgot Larry McDonald (plane shot down by Soviets), Giffords (nonpolitical madman), and Rand Paul (not shot but seriously assaulted by left-wing neighbor).
Also that time when Communists detonated a bomb in the Capitol as a warning to Congress against fighting the Revolution.
And of course Lee Harvey Oswald.
I was focusing on attacks on Congress members, since I'm not sure Congress members are worried about attacks on Presidents or normies.
But from consulting Wikipedia, it seems that Congress members who die in office tend to die from old age or the results of loose living, or unfortunate illnesses, rather than through martyrdom.
Leo Ryan getting thumped by members of the People's Temple in Guyana. Whole lot of Frisco politicians (Feinstein, Pelosi among the number) owe some of their success to Jim Jones's people's legwork, contributions, and muscle.
It is still a fable among Democrats that Kennedy was assassinated because of the racist climate of Dallas in the sixties.
Cal,
Timothy McVeigh?
Eric William Rudolph?
James Earl Ray?
Sorry bud, the ADL tabulated terrorism since 9/11, right wing terrorism is 17 times more common that left. Who shot Gabbie Giffords, exactly?
I think you may need to read a bit more and cherry-pick a little less.
I said "when you look at attacks on Congresspeople" etc.
"the ADL"
Solid, unbiased source.
"terrorism since 9/11"
Why leave out 9/11? Those guys weren't leftists - or maybe you're thinking of their presumed support for liberal divorce.
"Who shot Gabbie Giffords, exactly?"
A madman?
With no ties to the right. Gee, who woulda thought it would be so easy to catch the ADL in a lie?
Yep. That guy was some kind of nutcase with no ‘right wing’ ideology. A look at his writings prove it.
But democrats have to lie about that, because that’s what democrats do.
Yeah, I'd need to see the ADL's methodology and what they're counting.
Wife Beater Magazine says that three out of four women who are beaten by their husbands, "didn't know when to quit".
Those kinds of claims deserve a critical eye at the very least.
Lots of white convicts join white supremacist gangs in prison. The ADL then considers these men members of a 'right wing' organization for life.
If a white ex-con stabs another guy in a drunken argument, that counts as a murder committed by a 'right-wing extremist'.
You may want to check your reading comprehension.
Matt Welch was on Kennedy's show last night trashing Trump and his supporters. He sounded like a Democrat with TDS, not a freedom loving libertarian.
Reason has made a hard turn to the left. Virtually none of the staff supported the libertarian candidate for president and instead supported Biden. That speaks volumes for where this rag is headed.
Civilization ends when people stop acting civilized.

First, did anyone in government think the people liked and respected you? Your polls are so low you're competing with terrorists. Second, if you're that afraid of voting your conscience you should not be in congress, period. Finally read up on some 19th century events and understand that it was far more rough and tumble for those in congress and your lives are much better than theirs so be thankful.
In any event you're finally aware of these things. Maybe being isolated from people for so long warped your ideas of how life is really lived out here. Some of you know, but most seem immune to reality. It's been obvious for a long time - but the classic is Nadler refusing to believe that blm antifa was rioting. Get a clue.
"Washington remains on the kind of high violence alert not seen since September 2001."
Maybe if that kind of high violence alert had been seen earlier this year there would have been fewer buildings burning and less looting.
At this point the objective appears to be to deny Trump a future second term. The underlying disaffection that put Trump in the Whitehouse in 2016 (despite Clinton getting endorsed throughout the media and Trump getting effectively none) is not only unaddressed, but may be increased in size and emotional depth by the actions of congress. Despite a pandemic, his own ineptness, and a hostile media, he still managed to get 47% of the 2020 vote. Democrats losing seats in the House indicates that the electorate isn’t looking to them. They appear to have gained the Senate thanks to Trump. The disaffected are still out there and those in power are ignoring them.
They gained the senate due to Georgia having weird run-off rules. If it had been a straight up 1D vs. 1R vs. a few third parties in each race, the likelihood is the Republicans would have held it.
Under the current election rules in many states, it is very easy to mine the votes you need if you control a few single large population areas with high party allegiance and low voter turnout. The results should have been predictable once a runoff was apparent.
The the real change this election cycle, aside from the media going all in on censoring any news that hurts the Democrats, is this: The Democrats used to have these urban precincts where they got 90+% of the vote, but the turnout was lousy.
Now they've found that, with enough money and rules changes, they can get 90+% of the vote, with high turnout. And by nominally "non-partisan" measures, because there are only Democrats present to turn out anyway, so the money wasn't reported as campaign spending!
The Republicans will have a real problem matching that, because Republican areas are usually around 55-60% Republican, not 90%, so anything they do to increase turnout is going to bring out about as many Democratic voters as Republican. Unless they go with explicitly partisan turnout drives, that WOULD have to be financed as campaign money, and reported.
The Democrats upped their game in a way which it will be very hard for Republicans to match, and most of the obvious ways to match it rely on social media sites that are now radically hostile to Republicans.
As a process person, I deplore that lack of controls around this election cycle, but I do think those will get fixed when things are less polarized.
When the rules of the game change, the team that figures out how to exploit them first usually wins for a while but, eventually, everyone else catches up. The real issue is that, so far, neither side has been able to pull together enough of unifying platform to win either without or in spite of such system gaming.
If so, it will require even less voter fraud than 2020 to tilt elections blue. Welcome to the Permanent Party of Blue!
Trump got over seventy million votes. It is more about preventing those people from having anyone to coalesce around.
But, if they thought Trump was bad, wait until they face whoever does manage to pull them together.
So the new cuck cucks just like the old cuck cucked. Hooray.
Meh. Woodrow Wilson is still the worst president in our history.
Right after Lincoln, Americas first tyrant.
The day 10-unarmed people started the Reichstag Fire. And Hitler showed up to denounce the greatest threat to our National Socialist Country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As with the COVID; Trump has been SPOT-ON (the wisest words ever to hit media ears), "We cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself."
Didn’t Glenn Beck once say that Democrats and Republicans were really the same party?
It's a RINO problem. The Parties stated platforms are wildly different; but too many elected Republicans act just like Democrats.
i.e. Our power over the peoples freedom will fix everything stance.

Like it or not Trump is the President right now. There was one illegitimate attempt at a coup to remove Trump that failed. Even Reason admitted Trump did NOT commit incitement. There will be no hearing, there will be no due process, there will be no rights, just a vote. So this is a second illegitimate attempt to remove a sitting president. This is the real sedition. While I don't ever agree with violence I understand why people are outraged. I do believe Trump played this wrong and let himself be set up for this, not realizing the depth of hatred by his enemies. I am not a Trump supporters, and will never be Biden or Democratic supporter. What I know is our entire Federal government is corrupt, so this kind of thing is not going to end with Trumps departure.
Wait, are we pretending that Republican members of Congress weren't already being attacked in public places?
Suck it up, buttercup: All you're doing at this point is choosing from which direction you'll be attacked: By the guys who support your opponent, or the guys who used to support you.
If someone on the right kills him the left will cheer twice.
While some on the right will only cheer once.

5 Democrats voted to impeach Clinton in 1998.
Curious if the Republicans beat that number.
Clinton had committed actual crimes, for which he could easily have been convicted in a court of law if he'd been tried. That kind of helped in persuading his party, though not enough.
Give me a fucking break.
Repeat:
A certain number of lefty shits here, Tony among them, should not be credited with dishonesty. That level of 'thought' is simply beyond their limited faculties.
Suffice to say, they are simply too stupid to understand the dichotomy between fact and fantasy.
"Our assumption," Meijer said, "especially those of us who went in knowing we were going to vote to certify the election, knowing that was going to draw their ire, and especially those who are, you know, going to vote our conscience tomorrow on impeachment…there's an assumption that people will try to kill us."
Hey Bullshitter, you're from Michigan. Your election has been riddled with physical intimidation and threats since the beginning. So maybe shut up about your hypothetical martyrdom and turn your attention to fixing your own third world level state corruption.
the new information forthcoming in investigations into the Capitol riots will shock the conscience.
The serfs are revolting.
"the new information forthcoming in investigations into the Capitol riots will shock the conscience."
I'm sure that the FBI is coercing 'confessions' out of scared kids right this very moment.
"There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution." You mean besides Andrew Jackson blatantly defying the SCOTUS decision in Worcester v. Georgia, right?
"There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution."
Except for Lincoln, TR, Wilson, FDR and Nixon, but hey...what's a lack of historical knowledge among Congress folk?
Drama queens. the lot of them.
Gonna be fun to watch Welch and the other Reason fanbois as this all plays out.
Now do a Whataburger being burned out in Portland.
Careful, don't overreact.
“There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution.”
I keep reading that, or stuff like that, and yet when you read what he said, there is no "betrayal".
Stinks of TDS and more than a bit of fear; seek treatment and grow some balls.
I would not worry so much about the people who might try to kill you.
Worry more about the people who wont care if/when someone tries to kill you.
That's a both sides moment.
Did I miss the part where the "mob assault" by Trump supporters hurt somebody or were even armed with weapons? Did they burn down shit? If not, this guy and Democrats just sound like a bunch of pussies.
"Oh, those domestic terrorists and their evil desires to break a few windows and take selfies!" We all know that if BLM/Antifa broke into the Capital building, it would have been burned down.
Stop being an apologist for trash politicians. These politicians SHOULD be afraid because they chose not to represent their constituents because they thought their constituents made them look bad. This is how politics are supposed to work when elected officials think they are above the people.
I was dying yesterday reading about how AOC feared for her life. Yeah, all those unarmed protesters respecting the decorum of the building and sitting in chairs in your office...fucking savages, right?
I haven't seen a single honest statement from any elected official over the past week. Everyone has politicized the protest. Some officials attacked it hard to protect their seat because they fear acknowledging the underlying issue. Others have concern trolled and gaslighted us by claiming that votes against the certification were due to fear of violence against them if they didn't. Then there are the RINOs like McConnell who put their job above the country at every available opportunity and they've decided that they don't have a political future unless they scapegoat Trump.
There's radio silence on what Trump actually said, how it wasn't inciteful, how hundreds of thousands of protesters didn't break barricades and enter the Capitol after hearing the same exact speeches, and overt censorship of anyone brave enough to challenge the narrative by revisiting allegations of election fraud and irregularities.
Meanwhile, heard about that Biden staffer who just got arrested in Texas for fraud? Yeah I didn't either.
