Coronavirus Testing Finally Ramps Up, No Thanks to the Federal Government
Plus: margaritas and toilet paper, Playboy ends its print publication, and more...

Death by regulation. A Utah molecular diagnostics company is all set to produce 50,000 coronavirus tests per day, though its having trouble obtaining "reagent chemicals" that are necessary for a latter stage of the procedure, according to Deseret News.
Co-Diagnostics' COVID-19 test, which costs just $10 per patient and produces results in only 90 minutes, is already in use in Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Greece, the Philippines, Thailand, Australia, Paraguay, Ecuador, Israel, South Africa and Canada. But in the U.S. it had only been available for certain entities and research institutions, per guidance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
It was not until Tuesday night that the FDA gave Co-Diagnostics emergency approval to distribute the test more generally to U.S. hospitals. Deseret News reports:
The company said U.S. shipments to date have been in accordance with the FDA's policy change on Feb. 29 that allows certified U.S. laboratories to use the Co-Diagnostics' test under certain conditions. As a result of the change announced Tuesday night by the FDA, the company's test kit will soon be available for use by a wide array of U.S. laboratories, without first requiring emergency use authorization.
Co-Diagnostics CEO Dwight Egan said the rule change puts his company in a position to have positive impacts on the critical need for COVID-19 testing capacity in Utah, the U.S. and around the world.
"The ramifications of this new FDA policy are significant for our company," Egan said in a statement. "This change will quickly afford Co-Diagnostics even more opportunities to serve the needs of laboratories nationwide, as we play an even larger role in responding to this pandemic.
"We applaud the FDA's decision to recognize the dire need for increased access to high-quality COVID-19 tests, and to adapt as the situation demands in light of a public health emergency."
It's smart for the biomedical company CEO to publicly thank the powerful agency that holds the keys to its fate. But no one else should be thanking the FDA. The botched rollout of COVID-19 tests is largely the fault of America's medical regulatory bureaucracy—specifically, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the FDA.
BuzzFeed has a terrific interactive article detailing everything the CDC and FDA did wrong, from refusing to test people with coronavirus symptoms unless they returned from China or had been in proximity to someone who had, to insisting on a "slow and labor intensive" process. But as recently as February 26, the CDC told state and local officials that its own testing capabilities were "more than adequate," The Wall Street Journal reports.
People are quite literally going to die because the regulatory state was insufficiently adaptive to a crisis.

The coronavirus economy is wreaking havoc on local journalism, with Seattle's The Stranger and the D.C. area's Washingtonian already forced to lay off staff. Now COVID-19 has claimed another victim: Playboy will stop producing its print magazine for the rest of 2020, and probably forever.
"Last week, as the disruption of the coronavirus pandemic to content production and the supply chain became clearer and clearer, we were forced to accelerate a conversation we've been having internally: the question of how to transform our U.S. print product to better suit what consumers want today, and how to utilize our industry-leading content production capabilities to engage in a cultural conversation each and every day, rather than just every three months," Playboy CEO Ben Kohn explained in a statement.
Playboy's brand is still going strong in the world of online entertainment, and will continue to do so. But the demise of its print publication closes a consequential chapter in journalism. While the magazine has been criticized in the #MeToo era for caring only about men's sexual appetites, it was positively liberatory when it first appeared in 1953, New York magazine argues:
Hard to imagine it now, but Playboy once felt forward-thinking and modern. Founded in 1953, it was a significant force in the loosening of anti-obscenity laws regarding the press. By the early 1960s, it was a huge success, soon expanding to open its namesake clubs all over the world. It also moved into TV with Playboy's Penthouse (later Playboy After Dark), a late-night talk show of sorts starring [Playboy founder Hugh] Hefner and an array of celebrity guests. The magazine peaked in the early 1970s at a circulation, breathtaking to see now, of 5.6 million copies a month. The magazine's licensing operation since then has put the signature rabbit logo on cocktail glasses, clothes, car accessories, and far more. Plus, of course, online porn.
Men (and some women) joked that they bought the magazine for the articles, even though the centerfold and its associated pictorials were, of course, the main draw. The articles were, indeed, pretty good, even if Playboy tended to pay extremely well for the second-tier writing of first-tier talents. (The Simpsons once showed a parody of the magazine, called "Playdude," bearing the cover line UPDIKE ON THE MARTINI.) But that's also a little unfair: Playboy published good work by Ursula K. Le Guin, Joyce Carol Oates, and James Baldwin. At that part of the craft of magazine-making, Playboy was often great. Its lifestyle coverage, all that cocktails-and-great-stereo-equipment stuff, could be delicious as well.

QUICK HITS
- Two members of Congress have now tested positive for coronavirus.
- Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has closed all bars and nightclubs for 30 days, putting an early and definitive end to spring break. (James Franco hardest hit.)
- More rules suspended due to coronavirus that never should have existed in the first place:

- Are you there, God? It's me, even more rules that should be suspended forever:
Restaurants in Texas can now deliver alcoholic beverages with food purchases to customers.
In response to #coronavirus I waived some regulations that hindered that.
These next few weeks it's important to support our restaurants. They're a great source of food for Texans. pic.twitter.com/j9LFsDFceE

The government declared in an emergency situation such as this that for the duration firsts do not count.
So your saying without that incentive your just going to slack off? I thought your commenting served a higher purpose.
The quality of my work plateaued long ago.
I am with Tiger Woods on this; quantity over quality.
Poor Mrs. Fist.

Hello.
Late!
A bar in my neighborhood is delivering entire liters of their premixed margaritas for $25 and you get a complimentary roll of toilet paper with your purchase...
WHAT ARE THEY PUTTING IN THOSE MARGARITAS?
I thought free TP was a Chipotle thing.
I think Chipotle is owned by Big TP.
Two members of Congress have now tested positive for coronavirus.
Two guaranteed votes for any stimulus that gives free money to the infected.
$180,000 shot directly into the bloodstream. It worked for AIDS on South Park. Nobody has said that it wouldn't work here.
Coronavirus Testing Finally Ramps Up, No Thanks to the Federal Government
Who cares. If I get sick. I'm sick and will stay home to get better. I would say that only admitted to hospitals need a test to see what they are sick of.
Since air travel from overseas is canceled, tests are not needed for those flyers.
Because it's a chance to demystify the bureaucrats who do their best to throttle American efforts to better themselves? Perhaps out of this, a little healthy libertarianism will spring forth, teaching our fellow citizens what we already know; the government is not here to help.
Yes, yes I know, but I will forever be an optimistic cynic.
Daniel Koch (no joke), head of Switzerland's Office of Health's communicable diseases division, defended Switzerland's evolving policy to focus testing on people most at risk and those who might need hospitalisation, rather than trying to test every person with mild symptoms. The government is urging those individuals - mostly younger, healthy people - to isolate themselves at home and halt contact with older or immune-compromised people.
"Initially you test as broadly as possible," Koch said. "This phase is over in Europe."
He also expects the Swiss hospital system to collapse on March 27.
I'm setting my Swatch and adding this to my list of panic predictions to watch
No one who isn't being admitted to a hospital should get tested. There is no reason to do so. People who work in health care and such should be tested probably every day. Leave the resources for them. What good does it do for you to be tested once? None really.
Bragging rights. Can’t you see the tee shirts?
“I had the Coronavirus and all I got was this lousy tee shirt”.
By April 1, that will have changed, I suspect. Everyone will be able to get tested, and will probably be encouraged to do so.
On the contrary, a huge one-time random sampling of America would let us know how far this thing has actually gone unnoticed.
"What good does it do for you to be tested once? None really."
Worse than no-good. The average dipstick who is given a bill of clean health now figures he's got a free pass to party and can't infect anyone else. Meanwhile, he stopped to get gas on his way home from being tested and then wiped his nose.
At the same time, who cares?
We cannot get a straight answer on who is exactly dying from Coronavirus. It appears young and middle aged adults without complications fair no worse than the Flu.
Destroying our economy for decades to prevent elderly people from having to endure the unendurable is too far.
MOAR contempt for Equal, Unalienable and/or God-Given Rights.
Let the elderly die. They have no value.
Is THAT father of yours still alive??
PLUS typical Trumpian ignorance.
1) Young and middle-age have the HIGHEST infection rates.
2) INFECTED Young and middle-age adults are INFECTING and KILLING the elderly and afflicted. .... DUH
The insufferable arrogance of the authoritarian alt-right.
And so self-righteous in their anti-liberty jihads.
We libertarians don't want the elderly to die. We want to isolate and study them so that it can be determined what nutrients they have that might be extracted for our personal use.
That's even crazier than LC1789!
But NOT as crazy as you are here:

WHERE'S YOUR PROOF?
You hear that LC? I'm on an inside track to Hihn's enemies list! You should be jealous.
P.S. Tell us how far greater restrictions and debt "destroyed our economy for decades" .... during and after WWII
WWII vets. The ones YOU would let die needlessly
Because if you wake up with a cough and a mild fever do you need to shut it down entirely? or just take the day?
Are you an asymptomatic carrier?
We had to send someone home with a fever, now thanks to a negative test they're not quarantined for 2 weeks but only until they feel better.
Umm, that's WHY the FAILURE on making tests available has been so tragic.
As of Wednesday, there have been ONLY 32,000 tests, by CDC and all public health labs combined. The one-day high = 8,500 tests.
PEOPLE OVER PARTISAN POLITICS.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has closed all bars and nightclubs for 30 days, putting an early and definitive end to spring break.
Someone has little faith in the resourcefulness of college students.
They will move the party to the Everglades. How long before someone gets something bitten off by a gator?

Restaurants in Texas can now deliver alcoholic beverages with food purchases to customers.
Cats and dogs getting drunk together.
If restaurants are going to survive as delivery-only, that has to include the high markup items, right? How about a delivery-boy home corkage fee?
That's a good point. People are not going to order a glass of wine for takeout. How would that get delivered? In one of those plastic takeout containers?
All of the finest wines already come in box form.
This has actually been available since Sept. He was reminding people and I think changed the regulations to allow third-party delivery. This is Texas, wine ain't the issue. It's getting a Margarita with your Mexican food that we all really care about.
That could revolutionize Tex-Mex dining. Gather with your friends (up to whatever the legal limit is today), order a bunch of burritos and flautas, and a few gallons of margs. Get hammered and don't worry about driving home.
"Gather with your friends (up to whatever the legal limit is today)"
No....gather with your friends by way of Skype for a fun virtual party.
Think of the rowdy joy....gazing at each other through the screen of your device...!!!!
It's being isolated....together....for the greater good......

Alcohol kills the virus.
First they came for the alcoholics. And I didn't say anything... of course I was passed out at the time.
I wonder if the black market is practicing social distancing.
They were way ahead of this, the darknet is social distancing on steroids (which conveniently you can buy on the darknet).
Fuck the police.
Americans must relearn to sacrifice in the time of coronavirus
Look what this Commie, Joseph Stieb, wrote for WaPo:
The Republican governor of Oklahoma, Kevin Stitt, notoriously tweeted a photo of himself and his children at a restaurant on Saturday, proclaiming "Eating with my kids and all my fellow Oklahomans . . . It's packed tonight!" These divides leave Democrats especially furious that their political opponents aren't taking the crisis seriously.
[...]
Yet, another factor is at play. For the past three-quarters of a century, Americans have largely not been asked to sacrifice across the board for the good of the country.
Americans are asked to and do sacrifice for the greater good all the time. Everything there is a hurricane or a natural disaster, Americans step up and help each other. Americans step up and help the victims of such things in other countries more than any other nation in the world.
The media and the political class like to smugly pretend that Americans are all vicious racists and panicked idiots who will immediately resort to the worst in an emergency. Like everything the media says, it is the opposite of the truth and mostly just projection. The worst part of it is that their prejudices are most directed at the poor and minorities. I learned how racist the media is during Katrina. I was part of the relief effort and the truth was the people of New Orleans did a great job helping each other under horrible circumstances. But the media coverage consisted of hour after hour of "my God the Negroes are raping and murdering each other because they lack supervision from the white man".
The same thing is happening right now with this. In truth, Americans are making all kinds of sacrifices and helping each other and coping wonderfully with a lousy situation. And as always the media is lying and telling the world they are not.
To be fair, that helpfullness tends to occur in those racist flyovers more so than the blue states. Look at how that one conservative cleanup group was attacked for cleaning up various deep blue urban centers like baltimore. That is the Government's job don't they know! Dependency must be bred.
Reason had an article a few days ago confirming that people are actually a lot more likely to help each other in times of crisis like this. The main problem is the actions of a few assholes always end up affecting a much larger share of the population, like the hoarder sacks of shit that emptied the milk, eggs, and toilet paper out of the stores.
By and large, "hoarders" haven't done much. The fact is that normally, there is a basic distribution of shoppers over a multi-week period. But because of the panic, we compressed 3 weeks of shopping into 2 or 3 days. It is a supply bandwidth problem, like when everyone decides to get on netflix in your neighborhood at 6pm.
Toilet Paper ran out because it is about the bulkiest item in inventory. A shelf holds very few units before it needs to be restocked, and the warehouse only holds so many units before it needs to be resupplied. The bandwidth for asswipe is very limited. (I think there is an amazing supply chain improvement here if someone can figure out how to vaccuum pack TP in shipping)
I just went to Publix today.
The horders burned out all their funds on TP, bread, eggs, and milk.
The store is restocked with Filet mignon, milk, bread, and eggs.
Have a co-worker that has one of those lizards that eats crickets. Told me he went to go get food and found out people are hoarding feeder crickets now too.
Remember these people want a Civil War 2.0 but consider feeder crickets a staple for End of Times.
That Civil War 2.0 is going to be over in two weeks.
Mostly just projection. It's the reason they know merely "asking" for sacrifice doesn't work and that charity must be enforced at gunpoint. It's those bitter clingers that know different - ask one of those Bible-thumping, gun-toting, racist knuckle-dragging slack-jawed yokels how much he puts in the collection plate at church each week and then ask your average lefty intellectual when the last time is he's even been to church. The average redneck, if he sees you in the ditch, is going to hook the tow strap he keeps in the bed of his pick up up to your bumper and pull you out, the average lefty is going to cellphone-video your plight and post it on Facebook with a "look at this dumbass" commentary.
Yup. I had this argument with a liberal acquaintance of mine about charity. He was bitching about how we had to raise taxes for the parks. I asked him how much he donated to the National Park Service. He said nothing, because he knows nobody else would donate unless they were forced. I showed him the receipt for my donation and then donated an extra $100 right there (because I actually like national parks) and asked if he'd match it. He declined and then muttered about how that's not the norm and it doesn't prove anything.
Yeah...it's not the norm for you, because you're a cheap bastard who expects everyone else to spend their money to make you feel better, bastard.
Taxes for thee but not for me?
For the past three-quarters of a century, Americans have largely not been asked to sacrifice across the board for the good of the country.
Maybe he's acknowledging that all the tax money we sacrificed to the FedGov leviathan really didn't go to the greater good? Makes sense if you think about it.
That Commie probably wants MORE American wealth pumped into government. He certainly wants a "Ask not what your country can do for you...." Democrat in charge.
I’m sorry, I didn’t realize that all the sacrifice after Katrina, Rita, Ike, and Harvey was all an illusion.
It was not until Tuesday night that the FDA gave Co-Diagnostics emergency approval to distribute the test more generally to U.S. hospitals.
BREAKING NEWS: Private Company Takes Advantage of Pandemic to Bypass Safety Regulations
And make a profit. Evil private company is getting rich on the tragedy of others.
This is what leftists actually believe.
That and also that we don't need an "economy", at least one where people are free to work and pay for stuff. At least stuff they choose to buy with private dollars, not stuff mandated by the state and paid for with tax dollars.
All leftists are anti-regulation now, fresh off February's "deregulation is Armageddon" bandwagon. It becomes difficult to tell which way the wind blows unless you're looking at anything the Trump administration, which means they will blow the other way.
In other news, proggies threaten that if Trump cures cancer, he will put thousands of doctors and pharmaceutical employees out of work.
Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (JHU)
To counter the Lefty hysteria.
In the USA, 9415 confirmed infected, 150 deaths, and 106 recovered.
The 2017-2018 Influenza infected 45 million Americans and killed 79,000 Americans.
But the rate is increasing about 18% a day. That adds up quickly. Too quickly.
Too quickly for what? To have a cough due to cold?
Even if everyone who is infected died today. It would be 9,415 deaths. That is not a number we need to get hysterical about.
Young college people are partying on beaches. I'm running errands every few days in town. We have planting season going on.
The majority of hysterical people about this are over 60 years old.
Part of that increase is that as testing becomes more widely available, more people are getting tested, and thus there are more positives. Those aren't new cases, they're just newly detected.
+100000
I have been saying for weeks that there are plenty of Americans who have/had Coronavirus and just stayed home to get better. They never went to a hospital and therefore were never confirmed infected.
That would also lower the US death rate, since all deaths are a known factor. The "infected" rate is going up while the death rate is staying fairly constant and low.
For some perspective... Since February we've had 2000 more Flu related deaths. We are nearing 150 for Covic.
The rate of testing is increasing fast you mean.
the rate is only increasing due to increased testing. I and many people i've talked to already had illnesses this year who knows it could have been covid 19.
How long is a flue season 6 months 45 million over six months is a lot faster than what we are getting out of Covid 19. even for a year its outpacing covid 19
My favorite scaredy cat talking point from the media the last 24 hours is them highlighting 29% of hospital visits were by the 29-46 age group. The actual reports said they went to the hospital, not required emergency care. They begrudgingly admit deep in the story that the death rate for that group still remains well below 1%.
I am trying really hard not to determine that this entire hysteria is to protect people over 60 years old who are scared shitless about dying. These older folks so dont give a shit about young people that running up national debt and making them quarantine just to save the asses of retired persons. This Generation is mostly Boomers and they have a history of being that selfish.
Boomers get two weeks to hope infections peak and go down. After that, more and more young Americans will just go back to earning a living.
Man, what did your parents do to you?
They taught me not to fuck over other people just to save my bacon.
My family is helping my elderly family members, we don't need government mandates.
i am older and according to facebook i am one of the few not panicking, lots of younger people are berating me for not taking this more seriously
Yeah, but the ones berating you were still focused on why impeachment failed a couple of weeks ago. They are gadflies who demand you focus on what they are thinking this minute, and as soon as you do, they have found a new shiny object that the media has demanded is the worst thing like EVER!
I saw 2 stories (both in the UK I believe), one with a 4 year old who went to the hospital exhibiting coronavirus symptoms and the other with an infant went to the hospital with coronavirus. In the first case, it was never even confirmed that the kid had it and she got better. In the second, they only took the baby to the hospital because of a fever, it wasn't critical, and then they were surprised to find out the baby had coronavirus.
As someone with two small children, I think there should be a special place in hell for journalists who want to spread fear about little ones just to get clicks.
The media will be the first up against the wall if the Commies take over.
The Commies will hire their own Propagandists, not use these useful Idiots.
My wife would freak out whenever our toddlers hit 101. I have told her literally every time that a hospital won't see them or admit them until they hit 103 and it doesn't come down with Meds. Every time a kid gets a fever we get in a fight about this. Every time we go to the pediatrician the next day and the doctor retells her the 103 and not coming down as the warning sign. She just refuses to listen. Fear is a hell of an irrational drug.
You can ask your doctor but an emergency remedy for runaway fever is submerging in luke warm water (bathtub/sink) until the temperature drops a degree or two.
It works with epileptics. They used to use ice cold water but that can cause shivering (which increases heat to fight cold).
Fear? Sounds more like abject stupidity if she can't or won't learn from experience.
More bad economic news.
Charles Koch current net worth: $46.9 billion
It's difficult to express how disastrous this number is, but I'll try. Mr. Koch is now only the 15th richest person on the planet. He's lost over $15 billion this year. Now do you understand why Reason.com has been so critical of Drumpf's high-tariff / low-immigration policies?
#OpenBorders
#(EvenDuringAPandemic)
Yeah, this net worth thing is getting old. Develop some new material. Maybe how Koch being infected by the cronyvirus (props to Unicorn for the term) hurts even more?
So now you're crying for billionaires. Following your logic pattern is almost as pointless as your obsession about what everyone else has and thinking that somehow this affects your sorry ass. What a miserable life one must lead to live in a constant state of envy.
Whatever... every life has a purpose, and you've certainly found yours in being a parrot. Or the 7th grade mean-girl who refers to all the prettier girls as "bitch".
Raging Bernie Sanders snaps he’s ‘dealing with a f***ing global crisis’ as he’s asked about dropping out of Dem race
I must say that Bernie is a trooper. If he gets Coronavirus, it will likely kill him. Biden has been hiding in his tool shed with Secret Service protection and he is still winning states.
Sanders then added: “Well right now, right now I’m trying to do my best to make sure that we don’t have an economic meltdown and that people don’t die."
What? Bernie's entire thing is a revolutionary economic meltdown.
And the "people dying" thing is just an unavoidable side effect of Bernie's thing. Eggs, omelettes, that kind of deal.
Every shed that contains Biden is by definition a "tool" shed.
Which have no tool sharpeners in sight.
Is the tool a big stick?
I must say that Bernie is a trooper. If he gets Coronavirus, it will likely kill him.
He's in a higher-risk group, but even among those, the survival rates are very high.
Basically, to break 50/50 odds on dying from C19, you have to be 90+ with one lung, an enlarged heart, diabetes, and on a regimen of powerful immunosuppressant drugs to keep your body from rejecting your remaining lung, which was transplanted from an AIDS-riddled Somali who died of opportunistic tuberculosis, and whose AIDS you also now have.
And because Bernie Sanders is wealthy, he'd seek the best medical care that money can buy, something he wants to ensure that the rest of us never have access to again.
Important insight from the NYTimes.
One way in which the coronavirus will lead to more deaths: It is leading to a rush to buy guns, which will lead to more murders, suicides and accidents

Mmmm. Lister bag water.
Used to fly on a modified 707 for the Air Force. The potable water tank was original equipment from the when the jet was built in 1968. After flying on the jet for 5 years and making lord knows how many pots of coffee, the maintenance guys had to pull one out to fix something behind it. It fell and cracked and it was green and fuzzy inside. They stopped letting us use the potable water tank after that. I'm pretty sure I'm either immune to everything, or I'm a carrier. Maybe both.
Japanese flu drug 'clearly effective' in treating coronavirus, says China
It looks like some pretty common drugs are very effective against this stuff. If that is true, then this thing will end pretty quickly. If the consequences of getting it are taking some quinine for a few days or better yet taking it lowers your chances of getting it, then there is no reason it should ever get that bad.
Time to forget the whiskey and get back to gin and tonics, then.
The vernal equinox today means spring has officially begun, so yeah.
I don't know if it's the gin or the tonic that's the nastiest part of a G+T, I prefer my gin to be rum and and my tonic water to be Coke.
Don’t you kids know anything about drinking?
Perhaps the FDA approval process will have them on the market in just a few years.
How dare you! Suggesting that current medications might substantially reduce infection risks reducing the current mob hysteria, media frenzy, and political take-over!
The media hysteria seems pretty obvious to get rid of Trump and/or knee-cap the US economy.
Even when they bring up current drugs that seems to have some effect on Coronavirus, its said with sorrow that it will work.
They don't mention it in that article, but Japan is urging caution because there was some evidence that it caused fetal defects.
That said, why should the elderly care about that? Assuming the disease doesn't hurt babies, just give it to the high risk groups.
My baby grandma is taking offense to this comment.
Benjamin Button hardest hit.
Taxpayers will have until July 15 to pay their 2019 bills instead of the usual April 15.
Refunds will be delayed until December 15... for the children.
Because forcing everyone to stay at home with nothing ELSE to do but taxes is the best reason ever to delay filing taxes?
Stupid has no bottom.
Since most morons pay too much in taxes each year, you can bet they want to do their taxes as quick as possible to get a refund. As Leo pointed out, refunds will likely be delayed.
The filing deadline delay is to help those of us that don't give the government an interest free loan each year and pay the IRS each year.
Self-employed, partners in partnerships, and S-Corp shareholders would generally benefit from this. In theory these taxpayers should already have 90% of their taxes paid in if they're paying quarterly estimates in accordance with underpayment penalty safe harbors. This removes penalty and interest for underpaying the balance by April 15th.
April 15th is also the due date for Q1 estimated taxes for taxpayers who do not rely on withholding from wages. Which, if you're in the wrong industry, will be a lot lower for 2020.
Oh there's something else to do, I'm guessing we get a lot of December babies this year.
70 years from now we'll be asking how we're going to pay for all these CoronaBoomers leeching off the system. Hopefully our robot overloads will have figured it out.
Hopefully COVID-2090 thins the heard a little.
*herd. Where's my edit button? I blame Trump.
The real disaster is the destruction of the economy. Save a million lives, it costs about a trillion to US. Is a million bucks per life worth the long term cost. Mind you many are people living on the edge anyway. Is that heartless. Or is throwing 10s of millions of Americans out of work more heartless.
Oh well the die has been cast.
The economy isn't going to be destroyed. And the economic cost of a million lives is over time much higher than a trillion dollars. And this isn't going to cost a trillion dollars. And even if it did, that isn't destroying the economy. That is a typical recession, which we were due for anyway.
And this isn’t going to cost a trillion dollars
Congress collectively just screamed, "Hold my beer!"
The stock market just called, they said they can't even afford a beer to hold.
Hmm, can you do the math for the economic value of a million lives if 80% of them are retired or disabled and not working?
The economic value is the cost of all the government programs put in place to support those retired or disabled and not working.
But if I am not mistaken, thinning out the 65 plus types is a boon to the federal budget. Think of the increased years of solvency for SS and Medicare!
Cheap real estate too.
based on the last couple of recessions it takes years to recover when you've had to spend all your money and assets to survive. If its a short two months it may be okay but more than that we are screwed. but thats the way it was planned.
Ideally, after another 10 days Americans will depart their homes and get back to their normal routines but add in a buying spree to replenish all the supplies used up.
Supplies? What supplies?
What did the janitor say when he opened the closet?

American generosity without being forced by government.
My neighbor gave me an 18 roll pack of tp yesterday after hearing I was running low. Squeaky wheel!!
Well, that was nice but Jesus how much toilet paper do you people use!?!
Are you people taking 6 shits a day, like Seth Rogan suggests?
America’s ‘survivalists’ feel vindication as they lock down for coronavirus epidemic — with ‘beans, bullets and Band-Aids’
Looks like Lefties have the biggest tin foil hats of them all!
The similar NY Times article about preppers still could not avoid poking fun. But which is more crazy: a bit of paranoia and a home survival warehouse, or the more typical human oscillation between ignorant complacency and mob panic?
American Red Cross faces 'severe blood shortage' due to coronavirus cancellations
Yeah I plan to donate blood this weekend.
They should have stocked up when blood supplies were plentiful.
True. On that note though, many potential Americans are not qualified to give blood. Certain sexual behaviors, drug use, travel, etc.
Too many pussies scared of needles is also a problem.
A person once asked me to donate blood and i said I can't. the look on his face of panic wondering what I have, so I had to explain my unusual hereditary medical condition that is not transmittable. People automatically think aids or hep or other transmittable things but thats not always the case.
An iron deficiency can keep you from donating blood.
Texas man charged with false claim of COVID-19 diagnosis says he did so as a ‘social experiment’
Tyler District Attorney Lucas Babin said Brandin intentionally posted on Facebook that he had tested positive for COVID-19, causing a panic and tying up phone lines at Woodville’s Tyler County Hospital, the news station said.
[...]
The district attorney posted earlier this week on Facebook that such claims could be a criminal offense.
The hysteria is even making the 1st Amendment sick.
Legal analysis from right-wing cranks is always entertaining.
Hi, Rev. How's that progressive dense urban public transportation crowded public spaces paradise working out?

Holy crap, you're right!!!
Just looked up his bio. Pretty impressive that the guy did all that in addition to an acting career.
Was this a "social experiment" like the one the lefty "researchers" were conducting by posting fake anti-Republican stuff on Facebook just before the election?
Two members of Congress have now tested positive for coronavirus.
The democrats might want to keep “Sleepy Joe” Biden inside a hermetically sealed bubble for a while.
Given his advanced age and rather precarious physical and mental condition, if he caught this shit there’s a decent chance he wouldn’t even live to make it to the convention.
The democrats might want to keep “Sleepy Joe” Biden inside a hermetically sealed bubble for a while.
Their Flying Monkey Media will keep Joe safe from the public eye.
I'm just waiting for him to invite the coronavirus to fight him in the parking lot.
He said the virus was “full of shit”.
MandelBiden, MandelBiden, MandelBiden!
I doubt he'll have to worry about the coronavirus. It looks like they've found a possible cure with anti-malarials and retroviral drugs that are already on the market.
His bigger problem is the fact that he's got dementia, which will likely end up being fatal on its own at the rate he's declined. And that he's going to have to debate against Donald Trump in that condition. He already got crushed in the debates by Sanders and only won the nomination because Sanders was stupid enough to blab about his admiration for dictators on live television. Trump's a master at those political debates, and he's going to tear Biden apart.
It will be fun watching Trump utterly destroy Biden in a debate so that Joe tries to run at Trump in frustration.
Biden getting beat down by Secret Service protecting the President while Biden's Secret Service detail watches, would be priceless.
he's so in w/the Chinese he already has the antidote.
Not a problem. Hillary is already warming up in the wings. A Biden collapse would just push up her timeline a bit.
The First U.S. Company Has Announced an Upcoming Home COVID-19 Test
A doctor still needs to prescribe the test, so telemedicine doctors from PWNHealth, a national network of physicians who prescribe diagnostic tests, then reviews these answers to determine if a person qualifies for testing, based on criteria established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
I hope this Coronavirus hysteria does scale back the requirement for prescriptions like this.

The real epidemic: undiagnosed lactose intolerance.
That's a great way to clog your pipes.
I doubt many educated, informed, decent Americans are in the market for pointers from right-wing cranks who do their best to shackle government, then whine about government performance in an emergency.
But if continuing to lather up the disaffected Republican clingers and anti-social malcontents is the aim, this is great work.
To repeat myself:
Hi, Rev. How’s that progressive dense urban public transportation crowded public spaces paradise working out?
Talking about asswipes and YOU show up.
That's meant for The Rev Arthur Spooner.
So it was right wing cranks who made the FDC/CDC shutdown any private testing from being created? Man and here I thought they lost the Culture War and as a result their mind control powers.
I will never let the CDC/FDA live down that they have been focusing on banning vaping and cigarettes since Coronavirus hit China in late October 2019. The bureaucrats that work for those agencies were also neck deep in TDS. Imagine if they were following the disease of the year and we were a bit more prepared.
"Imagine if they were following the disease of the year and we were a bit more prepared."
To be fair, Trump disbanded the nsc pandemic team. And then lied about it. That group's mission statement was to identify and prepare for pandemics and bio warfare.
https://apnews.com/ce014d94b64e98b7203b873e56f80e9a
Hey idiot, try reading the articles you post.
A senior administration official said Friday that the NSC’s global health security directorate was absorbed into another division where similar responsibilities still exist, but under different titles. The work of coordinating policy and making sure that decisions made by Trump’s coronavirus task force are implemented is still the job of the NSC.
Neutral Jeff never reads his links. He barely has time for headlines.
Hey idiot, try being slightly incredulous when processing statements from this lying admin. They folded some of the unit into a WMD directorate, some into homeland security, and others to other places. What was once a single unit with a narrow focus has been replaced with a hodgepodge. The former priority of finding and prepping for pandemic was abolished. No one can figure out why the Trump admin did this. It unquestionably reduced our ability to foresee and prepare for pandemics like this one.
Back in Feb, senators from both parties wrote a letter to Trump, urging him to reestablish pandemic leadership at NSC. He declined to do so.
https://www.justsecurity.org/69197/lessons-ignored-john-boltons-bogus-defense-of-streamlining-away-our-bio-readiness/
Hey idiot, try being slightly incredulous when processing statements from this lying admin.
Hey idiot, don't claim he "disbanded" the team when their billets were simply reallocated to other offices and maintained the same responsibilities.
It unquestionably reduced our ability to foresee and prepare for pandemics like this one.
Uh, it's a bit hard to "foresee" a pandemic when its country of origin deliberately suppressed information on the virus until it became impossible to do so.
He did disband the team. When a band breaks up, but each member goes to a new band, the old band still "disbanded". Words have meaning, and "disbanded" is absolutely appropriate.
Disband
verb
past tense: disbanded; past participle: disbanded
(of an organized group) break up or cause to break up and stop functioning.
And the same responsibilities were not maintained. The current head of this situation at NSC is a nuclear weapons expert, not a scientist or epidemiologist. Every expert outside of the admin has pointed this decision as a big time fuck up. Balance statements from those who have nothing to gain vs those who have a clear agenda.
It wasn't a fucking band, it's group of bureaucrats that kept the same fucking jobs they did when they were in the same office together.
Every expert
If it's one thing libertarians love doing, it's "trusting the experts."
I don't have to trust much when everyone is in agreement. Well, everyone except for current Trump appointees, which tells me about all I need to know.
And if it doesn't matter, then why did Trump lie about it?
"In May 2018, Trump ordered the NSC’s entire global health security unit shut down, calling for reassignment of Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer and dissolution of his team inside the agency. The month before, then-White House National Security Advisor John Bolton pressured Ziemer’s DHS counterpart, Tom Bossert, to resign along with his team. Neither the NSC nor DHS epidemic teams have been replaced. The global health section of the CDC was so drastically cut in 2018 that much of its staff was laid off and the number of countries it was working in was reduced from 49 to merely 10. Meanwhile, throughout 2018, the U.S. Agency for International Development and its director, Mark Green, came repeatedly under fire from both the White House and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. And though Congress has so far managed to block Trump administration plans to cut the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps by 40 percent, the disease-fighting cadres have steadily eroded as retiring officers go unreplaced."
https://foreignpolicy.com/2020/01/31/coronavirus-china-trump-united-states-public-health-emergency-response/
Trump: "I don't take responsibility at all. ... When you say me, I didn't do it. ... I don't know anything about it."
You're citing an article from January when it was already explained that none of the people involved actually lost their jobs? Try harder.
The best part of your sperging is the implication that if Trump had kept this team in place, then the virus would hardly be an issue here. Even countries with "universal healthcare systems" and aggressive quarantine measures saw huge spikes in infection rates. You're really going to make the argument that things would have been different here if that one team had never been reassigned?
Well that was on topic.

The Walking Dead (until Negan showed up, anyway)
The Stand
The Stand was good.
As to the "Last Man on Earth"... He wasn't the last man. It was funny that there was a "Last Woman on Earth" but more swinging dicks ruined it.

The most interesting facts about the corornavirus and the government's reactions to it so far?
----The Federal Reserve cuts interest rates to zero and offers up a quantitative easing program of $700 billion--and the market continues to fall.
----The Trump administration proposes a $1 trillion stimulus package, with approximately $500 billion of that going straight into the consumers' pockets--and the market continues to fall.
One of these actions is better than the other, but neither of them address, precisely, the reason why the market is falling. A falling market doesn't require a jump in the number of sellers. A lack of buyers with the same number of sellers will do the trick. And there isn't much reason for buyers to try to catch this falling knife until they know that the number of infections has peaked and is starting to fall--and they won't know when the number of infections has peaked and started to fall for weeks.
A $700 billion quantitative easing program may be more than enough to shore up the banks and add more than enough liquidity. On the other hand, maybe it's not enough. There's no way for the market to know until they know how long consumers will be cloistering themselves--and there's no way to know that until the number of new infections has peaked and starts receding.
I've been in favor of giving working Americans their tax money back (and cutting spending to offset it) since forever, and stuffing $500 billion into the pockets of consumers (and borrowers) may be more than sufficient to counteract the negative impact of so many people being furloughed for however long because of the coronavirus-- but there's no way for the market to know whether it's enough until the number of new infections has peaked and starts receding.
None of these policies are likely to bring the market back to where it was until the market gets that information. Of course, it's politically unacceptable to do nothing in the face of this, especially in an election year, so they're doing the only things they can--things that don't really answer the market's questions anyway.
It's always the same.
In 2008/2009, it didn't matter what the Fed or the government did, the price for underwater homes had to be paid by the borrowers, the lenders, or the taxpayers anyway. The Fed and the government had little control over that. They were able to slow the train wreck down, to some extent, but that also slowed the recovery down--and the only foreclosures that didn't happen, didn't happen at the taxpayers' expense. Same thing is happening today.
The markets are information conduits that tell us what to do. They aren't subject to the controls of government over the long run. The markets do whatever they do over the long run in spite of government interference--not because of it. Markets didn't tear the USSR and Venezuela apart because the governments that controlled their markets didn't control them properly. Markets tore those countries apart because governments tried to control those markets instead of listening to what the market was telling them to do and doing it.
We won't see the end of this volatility until we see new infections peak and start receding, and there isn't a damn thing the Fed or the government can do about it. Once again, the enemy is the delusion of control. Because we want to believe that someone can make better decisions for us than we can for ourselves, so we don't have to worry about our own lack of action or knowledge, we make ourselves subject to the policies of people who project an image of confidence--despite having no more information than the markets themselves.
"The Trump administration proposes a $1 trillion stimulus package, with approximately $500 billion of that going straight into the consumers’ pockets–and the market continues to fall."
Technically, they proposed a payroll tax cut...which would have been better.
That was the original proposal, a payroll tax holiday through December 31st of 2020, and, yeah, that was a great idea. It was such a great idea that the Democrats made clear they'd never vote for it--because they were afraid it would get Trump reelected and was only designed to go through the end of the year for that purpose. Of course, a proposal that can't make it through the House . . . um . . . doesn't really matter.
This is the latest proposal I saw:
"The proposal, obtained Wednesday by ABC News, would authorize two $250 billion rounds of direct payments to individual taxpayers, with the first payment issued beginning on April 6. Another wave of payments would be distributed to taxpayers beginning on May 18."
----ABC, March 18
https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/treasury-details-1t-trump-stimulus-proposal-outlines-timing/story?id=69669107
WRONG. The cash payment was proposed by the White House.
Here are the search results, Pick your own source.
https://www.bing.com/search?q=White+House+proposes+%24500+billion&PC=U316&FORM=CHROMN
For the workers most damaged -- laid off by the pandemic -- their payroll taxes will ... zero! And they likely hate your "proposal."
Actually, if it were a cut in the payroll tax, the unemployed would get to keep all the money they earn through December 31st, too. Meanwhile, cutting payroll taxes would make the unemployed more desirable from an employer perspective.
Yeah, people covet, but they have no justifiable basis to covet what other people earn in their paychecks. In the case of a cut in the payroll tax, we're not talking about handouts. That money is money that working people earn.
False date!
Hiring = crisis over.
Too small to matter.
In times like this market wages (new hires) decline anyhow.
Hihn uses Bing...
If I'd realized who it was, I wouldn't have responded.
For absolute proof.
The coronavirus is just the straw that popped the bubble on Wall Street - they've always got to have some reason for why the market does what it does and coronavirus makes a handy enough explanation.
But like most social interactions, a lot of the foundation of it all is trust and faith and it's a shock to the system when people are forced to confront a fact that mostly stays unconscious and unacknowledged and unappreciated. We assume that we know more or less how the world works and that tomorrow will be much the same as today and much the same as yesterday, and then you get mugged or injured in a car crash or called into the bosses office and told to pack up your things or a call from the hospital wanting to speak to somebody's next-of-kin and you realize the truth that you're not as in control of things as you thought and maybe you aren't really in control of anything at all.
But don't worry, the fear wears off and soon enough you'll forget what you've learned and you'll be right back to your old happy crappy sappy self and everything's gonna be alright. Trust me, have faith, it's all gonna be okay.
"The coronavirus is just the straw that popped the bubble on Wall Street"
Actually, it's driven by earnings, over the long term, and the fact that everybody's customers and employees are hunkered down at home instead of buying airline tickets, going to restaurants, and doing more productive things at work has a lot to do with it. When stocks get whacked because they can't generate cash and finance their debt, that isn't about a bubble at all. That's the opposite of a bubble.
When pets.com is valued at billions of dollars because they have catchy advertising and a great URL but no customers, that's a bubble.
When Nordstrom's has to close its stores because all its customers are staying home rather than shopping, that isn't about a bubble popping at all.
Death by regulation.
Every 4 years or so I see something about "thanking a liberal" for all sorts of shit like roads, and libraries, and regulations. Is Rico suggesting that the progressive fuckstains are to cause for the deaths?
TRUMP OWNS THE DEATHS -- but only the needless ones that he caused.

A Utah molecular diagnostics company is all set to produce 50,000 coronavirus tests per day, though its having trouble obtaining "reagent chemicals" that are necessary for a latter stage of the procedure, according to Deseret News.
Hmmm. So who is sitting on the distribution of "reagent chemicals"?
Mexican drug cartels?
Co-Diagnostics' COVID-19 test, which costs just $10 per patient and produces results in only 90 minutes, is already in use in Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Greece, the Philippines, Thailand, Australia, Paraguay, Ecuador, Israel, South Africa and Canada.

^This ... and the only REAL way to slash our insane prescription prices.
Interesting. Now you fuckwads are for cutting regulation?
Isn't that what Trump has been doing since being duly elected?
Interesting how you fucksticks cherry-pick among .... failures everywhere else. Like promising to pay off the entire debt in 8 years ... but has already added as much 8-year debt as Obama added after 8 years. BEFORE covid-19
Inherits the longest recovery ever for an incoming President (from Obama)... fucks it all away!
1) SLOWER economic growth than Obama. (lat 3 vs first 3)
2) FEWER jobs than Obama
2) STILL low labor force participation.
3) DO THE MATH. The longer a recovery lasts; the lower the unemployment goes. DUH. Trump did NOTHING ... but continue Obama ... at a slower pace.

The coming rage against China for this is well founded. It isn't just that tolerating their traditional medicine markets brings people into close contact with bush meat and subjects us to viruses we wouldn't be subjected to otherwise. It's also that they bullshitted about the existence of the virus for so long, and if they hadn't, we might have been able to kill this virus in its infancy before it left Wuhan.
That being said, it isn't possible to be so justifiably enraged that we should do things that aren't in the best interests of the United States and its economy. The fact is that trade we would have been subjected to this virus with or without our trade with China, and our trade relationship with China is an extremely important part of our economic growth and our standard of living.
if the coming rage turns the American people against trade with China--to our own detriment--it'll be even dumber than that time we invaded and occupied Iraq because we were mad at people in Afghanistan.
Just for the record:
"WASHINGTON (AP) — Nearly seven in 10 Americans believe it is likely that ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was personally involved in the Sept. 11 attacks, says a poll out almost two years after the terrorists' strike against this country.
Sixty-nine percent in a Washington Post poll published Saturday said they believe it is likely the Iraqi leader was personally involved in the attacks carried out by al-Qaeda. A majority of Democrats, Republicans and independents believe it's likely Saddam was involved."
https://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/washington/2003-09-06-poll-iraq_x.htm
People forget what they thought, when they thought it, and why, when the fact is that they rationalize what they believe and why every day--even as new information becomes available.
Meanwhile, "because coronavirus" is a stupid reason to shoot ourselves in the foot--just like the question was never whether Assad crossed Obama's red-line or whether Saddam Hussein had WMD. The question that should always matter the most is whether what you want to do is in the best interests of the United States, and cutting off trade with China is not in the best interests of the United States.
China faces a time of reckoning from the US. They will not like it.
The Chinese are already playing the Best Defense is a Good Offense gambit.
But looking back at the major viral epidemics of the past 100 years (1918-20, 1957-58, 1968-69, 2002-04, 2009-10) the Chinese likely started most of these, plus many minor outbreaks. I think the world has a justifiable beef with China.
Of course, this could just be 21st century karma paying back the Europeans who wiped out American natives and others with their own set of diseases (since the Euros of the 16th century still played and slept with their food).
Syphilis apparently existed in the Americas prior to contact with Columbus, and my understanding is that it was one of the Columbus' crewmen who brought it back to Europe.

I have never been a fan of comicbooks. But, the extent to which the absolute worst sort of social justice losers have taken over that industry is shocking. Marvel's two new "heroes" are "safe space" and "Snowflake". Yesterday, that could have been an article in the Babylon Bee or the Onion. Today it is real.
Beyond the absurdity of the concept, look how horrible the art work is. There was a time in the 20th Century when comic book and cartoon graphic artists were real artists. SJWs really are the most worthless human beings on earth. All they do is destroy things. They are incapable of creating anything of value or do anything but destroy things that are.
From the Marvel website
Psychic Twins. “All twins are psychic, but we’re psychic-er.” Snowflake, a cryokinetic, can materialize snowflake-shaped shuriken projectiles for throwing. Safespace can materialize pink forcefields, but he can’t inhabit them himself, the reflex only works if he’s protecting others. They’re hyper aware of modern culture and optics, and they see their Super Heroics as “a post-ironic meditation on using violence to combat bullying.” They're probably streaming this.
"Snowflake and Safespace are the twins," the writer says, "and their names are very similar to Screentime; it's this idea that these are terms that get thrown around on the internet that they don't see as derogatory. [They] take those words and kind of wear them as badges of honor.
Even as someone who is not a fan of comic books, it saddens me to see an entire art form that many people enjoyed destroyed like this. The result of all this nonsense is that people will just stop reading comic books and avoid this garbage and the entire genre will die in a heap of SJW propaganda.
LOL--of course they gave the tranny the offensive capabilities.
My entire knowledge of comic books consists of references I have heard on the Big Bang Theory. But I seem to remember a reference to a character known as "element lab" whose super power is to transmute any element into another. How do we not now have "Gender Lab" whose super power is to transform into any one of a hundred different genders each with its own special powers?
Notice how gender neutral and Mulatto they are.
Anything to get rid of individualism in the name of Socialism.
Yes. They were created by Marxists. And there is nothing ever glamorous or beautiful about Marxism. It is always drab and inhuman.
Well at least when Covid crashes the in person economy and takes out nearly the entire comic book shop distribution network with it, no one can reasonable blame white men. Marvel and DC both went whole hog on the social justice market. The fact that weakened their market position so badly they probably won't survive this rests firmly on one group's shoulders.
What amazes me about the actions of companies like Marvel and DC is that they allowed their products to be taken over by people who don't consume them and loath those who do. Yeah, they literally decided to cater their product to the sensibilities of people who both don't purchase it and hate those who do. They type of SJW idiot posting on Twitter or writing in a magazine praising this BS has likely never read a comic book in their lives and never will. Meanwhile, the people who do buy comic books are likely to hate this kind of stuff with a passion. Those companies were taken over by people bent on destroying them.
That crappy "Steven Universe" style they're currently teaching at CalArts has infected just about every nook of the entertainment industry.
And yeah, this series is a joke. SJWs aren't fans, they're anti-fans. They demand that industries conform to their Calvinball progressive stack, but never actually buy the products they demanded.
The MCU has largely avoided this fate until now, but that's primarily because the movies were incorporating storylines from the 60s/70s/80s, before woke politics infected everything it touched.
Computer generated graphics is sterile enough to begin with. The old hand drawn cartoons from the golden age of Disney and Warner Brothers really were works of art. The people who did them were first class graphic artists. You don't have to be a fan of the work as a whole to appreciate the skill and artistry it took to create it.
This is just crap. It looks like something a junior high kid who got a graphics program for his birthday last week would create. It doesn't have a shred of artistic sensibility. But hey, these comics make up for that by being boring PC political propaganda. So, there is that.
And yeah, no one is going to buy this garbage. To understand how bad it is consider that Hollywood, as PC as it is and as willing as it is to fund sure loser movies because it appeals to some PC sensibility, won't touch this nonsense and only funds movies based on the old school characters. I can guarantee you there will never be a "Snowflake" cartoon series much less a live action movie. When something is so PC and sucks so bad even Hollywood won't touch it, it is pretty bad.
Go to the Disney Channel and watch Bambi or Snow White. Then watch the latest anime.
Then again I remember when musicians could actually play instruments.
I too miss The Monkees.
The Monkees were mostly Hal Blaine and the Wreaking Crew. The top studio players of the day. The list of songs you know recorded by them is near endless.
In those days recording was all analog. Few players could do that so session players recorded much of the music.
And the Monkees songs were written by people like Neil Diamond, Boyce and Hart, and Carol King. Those records were really pretty good. They were sort of an late 60s LA all star team of song writers and session musicians with the four Monkees as front men.
Not fair. The Monkees eventually did do their own recordings.
I don't know about CPU graphics being bad. In video games they have become beautiful works of art in some cases. So perhaps it just that the best graphic artists are being hired by gaming companies and comics are left with the substandard artists.
But I am with you that movies, like Disney's Robin Hood with its hand painted backgrounds, were excellent pieces of art.
You are right. It is not at all bad. It is very creative and takes intense effort.
Old malaria drug hydroxychloroquine may help cure coronavirus: study
A total of 36 patients — including 20 treated individuals and 16 infected controls — were enrolled in the study, led by Didier Raoult, an infectious disease expert from l’Institut Hospitalo-Universitaire in Marseille.
The treated group was given 600 mg of Plaquenil each day.
The researchers found that 50 percent of the treated group turned from positive to negative for the virus by the third day — and by day six, that figure was up to 70 percent.
Of the 20 test patients, six who were treated with both Plaquenil and the antibiotic azithromycin showed impressive results — with five testing negative at day three. All six of them tested negative at day six.
This sounds promising.
There are a lot of reports about this. If nothing else, I would recommend everyone start drinking gin or vodka tonics. I mean it can't hurt.
Rufus should be sitting pretty.
We went through a case (6x 1.75L bottles) for my St Patty's Day party. We are supporting Canada!
Yeah, people seemed to drink even more this year. Maybe WWI really did cause alcoholism to drowned their demons.
The bus driver we hired thanked my wife because he got enough in tips and payment to ride out two weeks of no work.
We werent sure if Uber/Lyft would be running to pick people up/take them home.
I could be completely off base, but I thought all of the anti malarial drugs were just refined versions of quinine. The old colonials drank their gin and tonics to keep from dying of malaria. Maybe we will took though I can't stand gin and would have to do vodka.
The alcohol component was just in there to make people forget the misery of being an colonial official in the British empire; you can safely leave it out and just have the tonic water by itself.
Yes you can but tonic water alone is nasty. The alcohol was there to make the tonic water palatable and to make life in deep darkest Africa tolerable.
Equatorial regions have oppressive heat. I always have some alcohol in my canteens.
From what I read there's not enough dosage in the tonic.
So I need to drink a lot of it, roger that good buddy.
Drugs cannot cure, if our tetsting remains a clkusterfuck
Only 32,00 tests as of yesterday. That report is not peer reviewed, and you forgot to include all the complaints on procedure,
Non-stop barbarity.
Really? How is not getting tested for COVID-19 going to kill you?
It won't. Testing is not treatment. Like I said above, testing just tells you if you have it right now. For it to matter, you have to be tested every day or close to it. And that isn't practical at all. The people who need to be tested are healthcare providers who have to be in close contact with people. And they need to be tested religiously. Those people and someone who shows the symptoms and is sick enough to require medical treatment should be tested. Everyone else just needs to be careful and act as if they are a carrier.
It would be good if we had self-testing. That Admiral from the CDC talked about that a few times. This would be a game-changer.
It would be. If you could create them by the hundreds of millions, people could just test themselves once every morning and then go on about life normally if they were negative. Then the next day repeat. If you could test even a hundred million people in a week, everyone who turned up positive could self quarantine and the virus would be gone in very short order.
We do .... but REQUIRES a lab analysis, so USELESS.
(cotton swab, 2/3 up nose, swab all sides of nose)
AND TRUMP CAN'T PROVIDE THE TESTS WE ALREADY NEED .... FOR PEOPLE WITH KEY SYMPTOMS
WALL STREET JOURNAL: AMERICA NEEDED CORONAVIRUS TESTS. THE GOVERNMENT FAILED.
It's certainly an accessory to economic murder, though. The whole reason for these insane panics is due to fear of the unknown, in a couple ways. First, there is a major fear that anyone who gets it can be COVID Mary for two weeks before they show symptoms (if they ever do)- something that I have increasingly seen information indicating isn't quite the case, but that horse is out of the barn. So we can't just use common-sense guidelines like people who have a fever and/or significant cough should stay home. Widespread testing would help assuage the fears that ANYBODY could be contaminating you and they would have no possible way of knowing. Second, there is precious little good information on fatality rates, or even rates of showing symptoms, on this. The numerator of that equation is well known- not many people are dying of respiratory illness right now and not being tested/evaluated for coronavirus. The denominator- the much more important number- is almost completely unknown. It is based on positive tests that, due to lack of supply, are almost exclusively given to people that are expressing severe symptoms. If we had a hundred million tests and could give them to random people and could find that either not many had the virus other than those expressing symptoms or a significant portion of the population had it and experienced mild or no symptoms or were completely asymptomatic, that would go a long, long way towards calming everyone down and getting back to acting reasonably.
You nailed it. The more info we get the more we will realize there was no need to panic, but by that time small biz will be smashed and the banks will have a couple more trillion bucks.

Hey Donald! How many have you killed today?
Less than the flu, which you'll be dying of soon enough, loser.

In the age of the Chinese Virus, whores and the cuckolds are hardest hit.
Where do you find these culture war deep cuts? I don't know that she is a whore, although the other (or both?) dude(s) is definitely a cuckold.
That was an amusing read, though. Thanks.
It was linked on instapundit. And yeah, two men doesn't make her a whore but "girls and their cuckolds' isn't a pithy.
2 dudes, 1 chick and no mention of a devil's 3 way? I'm no prude, but I'm not understanding the supply/demand ratio here. Those guys must have very low libidos, or she is a man eater.

GOP Super-PAC launches attack ad – PROVES two years of Trump’s delays, denials and lies on coronavirus.
Crazy lies are nothing new from Donald Trump but, apparently, his saying he knew it was a pandemic before anyone else did was a bridge too far, for many.
The ad is from the Lincoln Project, a new Super-PAC for GOP conservatives, co-founded by George Conway. Apparently, they want to deny even Trump’s re-nomination ... as Trump's death toll rises.
Wise.
Trump is guilty of two years of delays and lies about a virus that appeared six months ago.
Hihn, you really need to get some help and get on some kind of medication.
It has to be the height of hilarity that Dumbfuck Hihnsano, trembling in terror knowing that he's in the danger zone to get fucked by an upper respiratory virus, is reduced to pimping an ad from a neocon-run organization.
ADULTS look at the PROOF ,,, which is undeniable ... not who said it.
Yet another of your ad hominems ... which is a FALLACY in logic .. used mostly by LOSERS ... when helpless against PROOF ... which is undeniable.

Yesterday, I posted the following link to show that cases had already gone to over 4,000. About an hour after I posted it, they updated the number from the previous day to show that cases had just cleared 7,000.
They just updated the link this morning, and cases in the U.S. are now at 10,442, meaning that they're presently doubling every couple of days.
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/cases-in-us.html?
Of course, it takes about five days before symptoms show up, and that means these people were infected a week ago--which means the cases have been doubling for a long time.
One of the interesting statistics is the cause lines--where they separate the travel related infections from close contact, etc. They may have abandoned updating those statistics and are just putting them all "under investigation" now. I don't think it really matters how they got it anymore.
It's here and to stop it completely, they'd need to isolate those 10,442 people as well as everyone those 10,442 people have come into contact with over the past five days--including everyone who works in their office and everyone on the subway car they rode to work with as well as . . .
They're up to 11,238 as of 1500, March 19, 2020.
Most of the increases are New York, Washington State, and California.
I am already going about my usual routine and so are most people around here in Georgia. We are holding steady at 197 confirmed cases.
And we're STILL way behind on testing. On Wednesday
1) Highest testing day EVER = 8,500. *FAIL*
2) Totai tests nationwide, all CDC and all public labs = 32,000 *FAIL*

<blockquote'No greater moral crime': Tucker Carlson calls for Richard Burr's resignation’
Tucker Carlson calls for Senator Burr to resign and await prosecution for insider trading if he cannot provide a reasonable explanation for his actions. He goes on to say it appears that Senator Burr betrayed his country in a time of crisis
One of Fox News Channel’s flagship primetime hosts called for a Republican senator to resign over claims that the lawmaker dumped stocks on the eve of the coronavirus hitting the U.S. with full force.
Tucker Carlson commented on Thursday’s show about a story earlier in the day from Pro Publica that said that Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina sold between $628,000 and $1.72 million of his holdings on Feb. 13 in 33 separate transactions.33 separate transactions … but no coverup (lol)
TRUMP’S STOCK TRADING MUST BE SUBPOENAED FOR January, February and early March. THIS is the man who campaigned on a 60% tax cut FOR HIMSELF. And a few cronies in the 1%
Try not to spend so much time on Fox News Hihn. It's not healthy, and neither are you.
Also, I don't see in your post where you mentioned Pelosi did the same. Did that part get lost in your html fuckup?

You know what, you old creep? I misspoke -- it was Feinstein, not Pelosi. My bad, keeping those two bats straight in my head's been a problem forever. It's especially understandable in this case, given Pelosi's record of insider trading.
And no way I'm clicking on a link embedded in one of your boldface ravings. It'd likely take me to something more virus-ridden than you are.
You'd rather be a freaking liar?

TRUMP'S LATEST COVID CON HAS JUST EXPLODED
Today’s press conference was a disaster. Trump was attacking and insulting reporters, as he always does when he’s been caught in falsehoods … (most notably, his DISGUSTING lie that the Charlottesville rioting and mass assaults was launched by the “alt-LEFT charging and swinging clubs” – thus trying to absolve his neo-nazi and white nationalist supporters, later PROVEN the attackers)
Just hours ago, the whole thing exploded. It was NOT safe in China. China cut back their own clinical trial, almost immediately.

Part 2
VIRUS DRUG TOUTED BY TRUMP, MUSK CAN KILL IN JUST TWO GRAMS
(Bloomberg) -- The drug touted by the U.S. President Donald Trump as a possible line of treatment against the coronavirus comes with severe warnings in China and can kill in dosages as little as two grams.
China, where the deadly pathogen first emerged in December, recommended the decades-old malaria drug chloroquine to treat infected patients in guidelines issued in February after seeing encouraging results in clinical trials. But within days, (China) cautioned doctors and health officials about the drug’s lethal side effects and rolled back its usage.
This came after local media reported that a Wuhan Institute of Virology study found that the drug can kill an adult just dosed at twice the daily amount recommended for treatment, which is one gram.
Fentanyl is even more potent. So what??
(vomit)
Did the President lie about Fentanyl, too??
Did he get caught on that by his own medical experts?
Do you share the President's priorities, politics over human life?
Did you join him in defending nazi and racist violence and death in Charlottesville?
b>The only VALID comparison between COVID-19 and swine flu is to compare HOW FAST each one spread – how fast did the death toll mount? (How many died after the same number of days? Simple graphs at the source)
