Brickbat: Punched Out

Former Prince George's County, Maryland, police officer Stephen Downey was sentenced to six months in jail after being convicted of assault and misconduct in office. Downey was called to a drug store, where he found a homeless man sleeping in a shipping container in the store's parking lot. He handcuffed the man and placed him in a patrol car and fastened the man's seat belt. Downey then punched the man in the face several times. Downey said he believed the man was going to headbutt him.

Man, I sure would have liked to have been there when they tested the theory that his many years experience as a police officer allows him to accurately predict when somebody's about to headbutt him.
It’s all about the training.
Could be anyone, any time. There's a 50/50 change of anyone assaulting one of our heroes in blue. If it means punching out random people to get them home safe, so be it!
Downey said he believed the man was going to headbutt him.
"Now I believe I'll have another beer."
I feel like this isn’t the first time there’s been a story about Prince George's County?
Wouldn't doubt it. Probably the most corrupt county in the state. One of my favorite is the county executive's wife a few years back trying to hide bribes in her panties during a raid. They just has a rep get indicted on bribe charges just a few months ago.
Yep. Was under federal supervision for over 20 years at one time for a number of shenanigans.
Their rep was so bad a black man led the VA police on a merry chase up I -95 and surrendered in the middle of the Teddy Roosevelt Bridge because he realized he was entering Prince George's County.
Someone wasn't well-liked by his colleagues.
"Downey said he thought Verdier was going to headbutt him. "
I guess moving back a step so he couldn't be headbutted by a restrained, handcuffed man was out of the question.
Fact is the vast majority of those who think the homeless are per se property-threatening criminals enabled an officer like this.
If he doesn't have the money to own or rent property then he's a commy or an anarchist who probably doesn't love Jesus.
I believe that as long as the cop yells “Stop resisting!” that is allowed.
Wouldn't question it. Presumably the most degenerate area in the state. One of my most loved is the district official's better half a couple of years back attempting to conceal rewards in her underwear during a strike. They simply have a rep get arraigned on reward charges only a couple of months prior. Essay Writer
