Brickbat: Mistakes Happen

The Grand Rapids, Mich., City Council has agreed to pay $190,000 to Jilmar Ramos-Gomez, a Michigan-born former Marine, to settle a civil rights complaint. Ramos-Gomez had pleaded guilty to misdemeanor trespass following an incident at a hospital and was ordered released from jail by a judge. Instead, he was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He was held by ICE for three days. ICE said that Ramos-Gomez, who reportedly suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, made statements indicating to jailers he was a Mexican national in the United States illegally.

Let me guess: "My name is Jilmar Ramos-Gomez" ?
"My name... José Jiménez."
He certainly is a mental case - that "incident in a hospital" was trying to build a campfire in the hallway. My guess about him saying he was an illegal alien is that someone asked him where he came from, and he gave a sarcastic answer - but he probably had his VA card on him, which would both suggest that he was in the country legally and give the cops a quite simple way to check on his citizenship. If they'd bothered...
No one asked him to come to this country from this country and fight for it.
He came to this nation through his momma's Michigander-vagina, and, other than his momma wanting him the hell OUTTA that there vagina there ASAP... Being pregnant SUCKS... The citizenry of this Proud Nation did NOT invite him here... Certainly not like 99.99999% of us. So the same is true of legal humans and illegal sub-humans alike. In neither case, did some 99.99999% of us invite them! So you are about 99.99999% correct!
Ah, so quick ^^^^^certain ^^^^^^ reason posters forget about this story.
reason already covered it.
It was evidently a confession of Mexican nationality to the government that got him detained by ICE pending an investigation into his actual nationality.
He should get $0 from taxpayers. He is also lucky ICE didnt send him to Mexico City with $1 in his pocket.
I am sure reason would defend a person who confesses to a murder, is then detained while police investigate, and is then released after 3 days when its determined the confession was in fact a lie.
Oh right, the article with the ACLU statement that the dude had his passport with him. 3 day investigation to look in his pocket. Got it.
No link I see because the above article or its link to another article never mention a "passport in his pocket". I will just assume you're a lying troll.

The attorneys say judicial oversight could have ended this because there was clear proof Ramos-Gomez was a U.S. citizen.
“I did go down to the police department today to collect Jilmar’s belongings for him and right there in his belongings was his United States citizen passport,” Scholten said.
There are no such things as fake documents in the US. It is known.
NEVER TALK TO POLICE WHEN ARRESTED.

Also, thanks Reason, for improving the quality of the comments section so much by removing the ability to preview.
Their writers don't preview before they submit, why should you be allowed to?
And for damn sure, no one reviews AFTER they submit - - - - - - - -
The ability to preview before posting would be a good return.
The ability to edit a post after comments (rather than reply to comments) could lead to mischief.
