A Second Whistleblower Complaint Is Targeting Trump's Tax Returns
The House Ways and Means Committee is investigating evidence that Trump may have attempted to influence the mandatory IRS audit conducted on sitting presidents.

An anonymous federal employee is alleging that President Donald Trump has abused his executive authority in order to hide possible misconduct. Congress is now investigating.
Yes, it sounds like a story you've heard before—pretty much non-stop for the past week or so, actually—but this is a different whistleblower complaint alleging completely different presidential misconduct and being investigated by a different congressional committee. This one hasn't gotten as much attention as the allegations involving Trump asking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to investigate Joe Biden's son because it lacks the foreign intrigue, Mafioso-style "favors," and doesn't seem to have anything to do with the 2020 presidential election.
And this whistleblower's allegations may suggest a more straightforward example of the president attempting to circumvent federal law.
On July 29, members of the House Ways and Means Committee "received an unsolicited communication from a Federal employee setting forth credible allegations of 'evidence of possible misconduct,'" wrote Rep. Richard Neal (D–Mass.), the committee chairman, in a letter to Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin on August 8. The letter's existence was reported by The Washington Post on Tuesday. In the letter, Neal wrote that the committee was informed of "inappropriate efforts to influence" a mandatory Internal Revenue Service (IRS) audit of the president and Vice President Mike Pence.
"This is a grave charge that appreciably heightens the Committee's concerns about the absence of appropriate safeguards as part of the mandatory audit program and whether statutory codification of such program or other remedial, legislative measures are wan-anted," Neal wrote.
The important background here provided another in a growing number of parallels between the Trump administration and the Watergate era. Following Nixon's resignation, the IRS added a rule requiring that presidents and vice presidents have their tax returns audited every year. Having automatic audits of the commander in chief is mostly for the IRS's benefit so the agency doesn't appear to play political favorites by choosing which years to audit and which to ignore.
Of course, the audits haven't really mattered before—because, unlike Trump, every other post-Nixon president has released his tax returns publicly. If there was any misconduct to be found in the tax return, it would not escape notice. Trump has kept all his tax returns private, however, which means the mandatory IRS audits may be the only means of exposing key details like how much Trump is personally benefiting from the office he holds.
In the letter, Neal acknowledges that Charles Rettig, the IRS commissioner, has dismissed the allegations of "undue influence" being applied to Trump's audit as being "unfounded." But Neal says the allegations made to the committee by the IRS whistleblower "cast doubt" on that claim.
To be fair, IRS employees have engaged in nakedly partisan activities before, and any federal employee could have all manner of incentives to make allegations against Trump. From the scant details provided in Neal's letter, it's impossible to tell the extent of the whistleblower's complaint or the alleged misconduct.
However, because the whistleblower is concerned about the status of the IRS audit of the president, it seems likely that these "credible allegations" are directed towards Trump's tax returns since taking office. In other words, the issue doesn't seem to be some long-buried secret in Trump's old returns—which Congress is still trying to obtain—but rather an attempt to circumvent the mandatory IRS audit of Trump while he is a sitting president.
Regardless, Trump could put an end to the question of whether this is a legitimate allegation of wrongdoing or another "deep state" plot against his presidency by simply following the example of his predecessors and releasing his tax returns.

I think Maddow has them. Ask her.
"Regardless, Trump could put an end to the question of whether this is a legitimate allegation of wrongdoing or another “deep state” plot against his presidency by simply following the example of his predecessors and releasing his tax returns."
Libertarians now deciding that protections from searches aren't needed because you should have nothing to hide.
So, Reason, what is your plan POST-Trump? You've demonstrated that nothing you've ever claimed to believe are things you ACTUALLY believe. You're just a less well-written version of Salon.
…version of Salon.
Oh, snap!
They were aiming for buzzfeed level.
Are you pretending that the president is the same as any other citizen and should not be scrutinized. There is an easy way to avoid this audit -- don't become president.
Stop representing SF; if you want to post political trash; do it under your own persona. Watching you be a partisan idiot trying to pass yourself off as a green beret is disgusting. Be the quiet professional.
Why is Reason even reporting this nonsense? This is why I don't get the print anymore.
You probably can't read it anyhow.
And your love of illegal actions -- ONLY for YOUR corrupt tribe, as appalling. But typical.
But Trump's tax returns wouldn't address the actual issue of whether or not Trump sought to avoid being audited by the IRS, which is why it's a flawed statement. The allegation isn't that there's something wrong with Trump's tax return, which would be entirely an IRS matter, so an examination of Trump's tax return is not going to prove or disprove the whistleblower's allegation.
Not that the "investigation" of this matter isn't going to result in a demand that Exhibit A be Trump's tax return. But that should at least raise the question as to what's actually going on - if you file a police report that somebody attempted to steal your wallet and the police demand you turn over your wallet to them, you have every right to question why the hell the cops need your wallet in order to investigate whether or not somebody tried to steal it.
Reason is literally advocating the abuse of the whistleblower act to force people to release confidential documents. Are health records next?
What the fuck is wrong w reason.
Reason works for Cato, and Cato works for Charles Koch, and when Trump is bad for Koch Industries' bottom line, then Trump is bad for Reason as well.
Thus none of the rules apply when it comes to Trump, because the billionaire running this blog says so.
Remember when reason ran daily and weekly articles about the Obama Administration using the IRS as a weapon against non-profits that the Lefties didn't like? I would bet plenty of those bureaucrats are still working at the IRS.
Yeah me either.
All you have to do is enter "Obama IRS" into the search bar at the top of the page and get a bunch of results.
Daily and weekly!
D-a-i-l-y indeed!
Orange Man BAD
Only the wacky right (and/or whiney pussies) would claim knowledge of what they have never seen.
You fascists have ALWAYS hated whistleblower protections against hour statist mentality,
If Trump is evading taxes , I say good for him. Taxation is theft and if it were not for the possibility of evasion , the government would loot us even more. Tax evaders are actually doing us taxpayers a favor. It is *not* like if trump paid more in taxes , then my own taxes would go down. Quite the contrary.
Taxation is not theft, silly one, which is too extreme for even Ayn Rand! . Will of the people. Consent of thje governed
Also wrong on your own taxes -- technically for your children. His tax evasion increases the debt. But far worse was the near 50% tax cust he campaigned on for himself, and very few others. He'd be a billionaire paying a maximum 20% rate, less than many of his supporters He did get a 20% cut, then lied that his taxes went up!
But you'd defend him of murder, he says. 🙂
Criminal
Just like The Intercept, this website was worth a shit for a very brief time. Then Trump got elected and every fucking article is a blowjob for the Left and a donkey punch for Trump.
You guys are fucking pathetic. You’re not libertarian at all. You’re progressive. Your articles are myopic at best and sophistic above all. How about acknowledging the obvious point that it’s... uhhh... kinda weird (as in unprecedented) for a president to have so many deep state douches after him ALL TIME. But wait, I forgot, the deep state is a conspiracy theory, right?
You know what? Get the fuck out of Brooklyn. You can’t have a real libertarian site based in Brooklyn. Because writers are inherently needy people, and everyone in Brooklyn would melt if their neighbors didn’t think they were cool and trendy. So obviously a real Libertarian writer can’t live in Brooklyn. Libertarians don’t give a fuck. The writers in this website would spend every night servicing glory holes in Brooklyn bars if they thought it would make their progressive neighbors invite them to more parties.
Carry that water, boy, carry it! Operation Mockingbird is alive and well, I see.
(lol). Libertarians have been fiscally conservative and socially liberal for over 50 years ... HATED by your Authoritarian Right and the Authoritarian Left ... who have gotten worse.
Democrats want government out of your bedroom and into your wallet. Republicans want government out of your wallet and into your bedroom.
Your own contempt for individual liberty is confirmed by your snarling call for censorship. Your ilk has been burning witches and books for centuries.
Fortunately, left and right are obsolete. Both, together, a shrinking minority. Your time has expired. Dying off, screeching in desperation.
Yes, the whistle blowers are coming out of the woodwork.
With a whistleblower here and a whistle blower there.
Here a whistle
There a whistle
Everywhere a whistle whistle.
Allegations made by unnamed sources in the federal government are fascinating--where's the evidence?
Keep this shit up, and anonymous voters will show up at the polls in 2020 to blow the whistle on our news media and their bullshit.
Where's the evidence?
Evidence is the point of investigations, you half-educated, disaffected bigot.
It is called probable cause. You don't just believe something without evidence. And you don't launch investigations based on nothing.
You need to know your limitations Rev and come to terms with the fact that you are dumb as a fucking post and really shouldn't be saying anything about any issue more complex than how to spell cat.
The whistleblower's submission constituted probable cause.
No it didn't. There is no first hand evidence and no reason to believe it is credible.
Stop talking about things you lack the intelligence to understand.
The national Enquirer is probable cause that bat boy is trying to overtake america.
Impeach!!!!!!
To clear up some confusion:
National Enquirer - celebrities
Weekly World News - batpeople, vampires, ghosts
I believe Rev Kirkland is a child molester. This is probable cause for his computer to be seized. Because I anonymously say so.
you don’t launch investigations based on nothing."
Tell that to the democrats
(laughing) John SCREAMS against accepting things without evidence ... as the crazy wacko pisses and moans about ... a report he's never seen! He's a satire of ... himself!
There is good reason for him to foam at the mouth in desperation ... just as Trump now does.
The authoritarian right is self-destructing. How so we accelerate the same for their precise equivalents on the left?
Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence!
"Evidence is the point of investigations, you half-educated, disaffected bigot."
It's called a 'fishing expedition', you pathetic piece of shit.
"Evidence is the point of investigations, you half-educated, disaffected bigot."
And yet even when the phone transcript shows no evidence of a quid pro quo, the witch hunt continues!
I don't believe evidence is the point of this investigation. I think the investigation is the point to Democrats and the media, and the evidence doesn't really matter at all.
They're going manic now because the Mueller report fell apart like wet tissue, and it turns out Barr's investigation into 2016 election interference was actually going to implicate a bunch of Democrats and intel spooks instead of Russians.
+1000
I think the dems are taking a page from W Bush, and his desire to restart the Iraq war. Keep throwing excuses that fail until the intel agencies give you a hand at finding a reason.
The evidence supporting the Ukraine whistleblower's account is right there in the call notes that the White House released. If there is evidence to support this tax return stuff, it should be brought to light too.
That's the whole point of this process - to investigate the claims made by the whistleblower and determine whether or not they are supported by the facts. Anybody confident that Trump did nothing wrong and only has perfect phone calls and whatnot shouldn't be concerned.
"The evidence supporting the Ukraine whistleblower’s account is right there in the call notes that the White House released."
You mean the evidence that completely contradicts that there was a quid pro quo is right there in the phone transcript the White House released?
Here's the transcript:
https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/25/politics/donald-trump-ukraine-transcript-call/index.html
Copy the part that confirms that there was a quid pro quo and paste it right under my comment.
If you can't find it, then the transcript contradicts rather than supports the whistleblower's allegations.
Well that’s easy.
“We’ve been very good to your country. Very good. No other country has done as much as we have. But you know what? I don’t see much reciprocity here. I hear what you want. I have a favor I want from you, though, and I’m gonna say this only seven times, so you better listen good. I want you to make up dirt on my political opponent, understand, lots of it.”
At least the Mueller Report was long, so it took a while to find his clear condemnation of Trumps treasonous conspiracy with Russia.
/Poe’s Law
WTF!
Here is the only use of the word favor:
The President: I would like you to do us a favor though because our country has been through a lot and Ukraine knows a lot about it. I would like you to find out what happened with this whole situation with Ukraine, they say Crowdstrike... I guess you have one of your wealthy people... The server, they say Ukraine has it.
Was that from Schiff's reading of it?
@Robert Beckman...that was from Schiff's fabricated remarks, you lying piece of shit. That was not in the transcript.
He said Poes Law...
Are you seriously quoting Schiffs stupid narration which has absolutely nothing to do with the actual transcript. You completely failed to even look at the actual transcript, let alone quote it.
Prove it, Psycho
Handed over to congress back in July. Are you now complaining that a whistle-blower followed the proper course of action rather then running to the media?
You're talking about evidence we haven't seen yet?
You think we should overturn the 2016 election results on the basis of evidence that we haven't seen yet?
You're as crazy as Trump, saying the Founders were wrong to include impeachment in the Constitution,
NOT treason, just shamefully anti-American.
Or are you just ignorant of what happens if an impeachment conviction?
Handed over to Congress. You're a nobody, with ZERO say in the matter.
Lotsa screwups for so short a comment!
.
Yep.
What a strange and baseless accusation.
We have whistleblower laws for a reason. Why is suddenly partisan?
You should ask Adam Schiff that
Apparently you never read the highly redacted Ukraines transcript. And believe the crazy-ass bullshit about the Mueller Report, which means you obviously never read that either.
You just kinda sit thee, waiting for instructions on what to "think" each day. Prosecutors and juries don't work that way. It's called persona
... It's called personal accountability.
There is no deep state - chem jeff.
Question, is this one actually a whistleblower, or are they also just going off of second-hand sources and gossip like the first Democrat?
And was the complaint drafted for them by the DNC legal counsel, the way the CIA 'whistle blower's apparently was?
And they're all coming out of the woodwork at the same time, because they were all coordinated behind the scenes.
"All these people saying the president is doing illegal things is evidence of how large and and wide and unbelievable the conspiracy against the dear leader has become!"
--you right now.
chemjeff's sock puppet standing up for his lefty boos.
No comment on all the instances of criminality by a criminal president?
If there was evidence of criminality, sure.
The problem is that people are so rabid against Trump that "obstructing the IRS" could be as simple as "I'm busy, can we do this next week".
I'm sorry, but I've lost all confidence in these confidential leakers.
Ben of Houston: Latest Trumptard Bullshit
1) Are you stupid or a liar?
2) The obstruction was trying to block the REQUIRED AUDIT of Presidential returns.
3) When you get old enough, have your first job, and start paying taxes, you'll learn (if you try VERY hard), that the actual audit requires no time at all by the taxpayer.
4) THE IRS ALREADY HAS HIS RETURNS!!!
Anything else?
So the commissioner of the IRS is going to commit a felony to protect Trump. Yeah, that sounds legit.
That did happen under his predecessor, so not really unprecedented...
I voted for Trump in 2016, not because I like the man. Not because I agree with everything he said. In fact, I disagree with a fair amount. But because Clinton was measurably worse in just about every way. (Granted I live in a strongly Red state so my vote doesn't matter).
I was thinking about voting Libertarian in 2020 because Trump is going to be seriously safe in my state. But, I have fucking had it. I am a full blown Trumpista now. I don't care that I disagree on tariffs. I don't care that I am very bleh about "the wall".
FFS, the majority of the national media, the House of Representatives and most of the Federal bureaucracy are engaged in what appears to be almost an attempted coup.
While I am exaggerating for effect, how many more anonymous "whistle blowers" who don't have any facts are going to be taken seriously? This has nothing to do with standard partisan politics. This is taking it to a whole new level.
Fuck em. Trump 2020!!!!
Same boat. If we are going to have a functioning representative republic, everyone needs to come to the table in good faith. I find very little good faith coming from Democrat pols these days.
Trump 2020
Lol. I am so convinced you guys only became huge Trump supporters recently. Fuck outta here.
Chipper putting people into tribes yet again.
Well I voted for Gary Johnson in 2016. The only thing I new about Trump at the time was that he was a blowhard billionaire who was in some reality show I'd never seen. Dude was barely on my radar screen but It was a huge relief that at least it wasn't gonna be Hilary. I'm a free trader and I believe in freedom of movement so I was not impressed with his positions on these issues. But very early on he did some things that looked kinda libertarian to me: Cut the corporate tax rate, roll back the regulatory state, get rid of the Obamacare individual mandate, made it clear he wouldn't fuck with the states on MJ, seemed genuinely reluctant to drag us into more war, Gorsuch, and much more. Some of these things affected me personally in very positive ways. It also became clear early on that the establishment opposition to Trump had nothing to do with policy, he is simply too big a threat to the status quo. The collusion story was obviously nonsense from the start but it went on for over 2 years and has spawned a seemingly endless stream of absurd allegations. I've also been stunned that Reason, a magazine I've been reading for decades, has given Trump zero credit for his positive accomplishments and has gone full blown TDS instead. When Robby tells me that a woman who cannot name a place or date and has no corroborating witnesses has a "credible" case that a supreme court nominee assaulted her 30 years ago it becomes clear that Reason is now a part of the establishment desperate to preserve the status quo. So yeah I'll vote Trump 2020 even though I live in a blue state and it won't make any difference. At this point I don't care who the Libertarians run. After Bill Weld I'm done with these clowns. And I sure as shit don't care who the Reason writers endorse.
Even if you think Trump is a horrible President, allowing the CIA and federal Bureaucracy the power to choose the President over the will of the voters does more damage to the country than any President could. This shit needs to stop.
Knowing that they are to be replaced by better Americans appears to have made the clingers cranky.
No one is replacing anyone. That doesn't even make any sense. You need to calm down, take the meds they give you, and shut the fuck up. Even I get embarrassed for you on here.
John, the Rev is an antisemite. He is riffing on “The Jews will not replace us” that the white supremacist nazis were chanting.
It's also possible that he watches really bad late night tv.
Rev. you really love your eliminationist rhetoric, don't you? Even when it's a complete non sequitur.
If Trump is removed...I HOPE for violent revolt. Let the streets in DC be bathed in blood.
You are sick in the head. Seek therapy.
You should have a line in the sand you will not cross. Coup d'etat are there for me.
Eunuch doesn't do lines in the sand, because eunuch can't back them up.
The rest of us have to take a stand.
Same for me.
I refuse to let Lefties use a bureaucrat coup to remove a duly elected President that won fair and square.
Are you calling the constitutional remedy of impeachment a coup? Not a fan of the constitution, I take it.
"When someone investigates foreign election interference to get Trump, it's legitimate. When Trump investigates foreign election interference, it's an impeachable offense."
That's not what happened. But I won't argue with you. You want to be ignorant, so have at it.
Oh, the irony!
"Are you calling the constitutional remedy of impeachment a coup?"
This is a coup. No doubt whatsoever.
Like no doubt Obama is from Kenya?
(smirk)
damikesc, in general, you stage a coup, you end up in power. So Democrats stage a coup . . . and Pence ends up in power?
^THIS!
The only thing that has kept us away from revolution in our darkest hours has been the 22nd amendment and consistent elections. If you despise the president, you can take comfort that he will be there only four or eight years. Four years isn't worth dying over.
However, if elections will be overturned if we don't select the "right" candidate, then that breaks down. We lose our strongest weapon for peaceful turnover of power.
Before Trump was elected, I heard several liberals howling at the moon that Trump was going to cancel elections and declare himself dictator. An impeachment proceeding on fabricated charges is essentially the same thing. At this point, after all the nonsense, I have to assume that this is fabricated or exaggerated past the point of sanity.
No politician is worth fighting or dying for. Or even arguing about.
This is not about A POLITICIAN.
This is about Lefties and their federal workers attempting to change the rules and try to seize power. Trump is believe or not, in the right as the duly elected President doing fairly well in the job.
Fuck that!
No politician is worth fighting or dying for. Or even arguing about.
That’s how we get the Hitlers and Stalins of the world. Or are you ok with anyone that might arise?
Are we still doing no civility until democrats are elected?
Exactly John If the CIA pulls this off then whats to stop them from doing to the next president whoever it may be. The Democrats may want to be wary of the wolf they've release in hen house..
Of course some people already believe the cIA did this in the past to another president only this time they are smart enough to not use a gun
Even if the CIA never did it again, people would always believe that they could or did whenever another President is forced from office. That belief alone would totally destroy people's faith in elections and the legitimacy of the government with it.
I wonder what Obama thinks regarding the idea that CIA can listen in on all calls to foreign leaders?
I am guessing they did and that was one of the reasons he allowed the IC to run wild during his presidency.
That belief alone would totally destroy people’s faith in elections and the legitimacy of the government with it.
Isn't that a good thing? Isn't that a way to reign in the power that has been given to government? The reason the federal government gets away with so much is because people trust it to operate in good faith. If that trust dries up then people will be less willing to give the government more power and may try to take back some power that has already been delegated. Maybe we can finally be done with politicians ramming through sweeping legislation on narrow margins.
No. It would have the opposite effect. When people don't trust the government, they stop abiding by laws. And when they stop doing that, the government becomes even more corrupt and oppressive. Loss of faith in the institutions of government is the first step towards tyranny.
+10000
This is sometimes why some people default to supporting cops and government agents. The alternate, that government is already too far gone as corrupt, is too scary for people.
Our system is not quite there yet but its close. We have about half of the House trying to use impeachment of a President to hide their Democrat members illegal acts in Ukraine and elsewhere.
I got a friend that believes that, says it was because Kennedy was planning to try to audit or exert some sort of control over the Federal Reserve
I can totally see its more incompetence by the CIA.
The CIA tried to control Oswald against the USSR. Oswald evidently had some mental instability. To him it was a good idea to shoot JFK.
The idea that the Pope was trying to control the USA via a Catholic president or a host of other theories would have leaked real evidence by now. Conspirators have a tough time keeping secrets.
"""the Pope was trying to control the USA via a Catholic president ""
And he would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those pedophile meddling priests.
+1
For me, it's about the Green New Deal and Medicare for All.
As the Democrats become increasingly authoritarian and socialist, it is reasonable and appropriate for libertarian capitalists to become increasingly Republican.
From a policy perspective, this is exactly it. I despise the hard-core social conservatives and drug warriors on the right. But increasingly the prudes on the left are just as bad. So from a personal freedom standpoint I will tell them all to leave me and mine the hell alone.
But from the standpoint of the economic health of our country, there is no question. Yes, Republicans in the House and Senate spend money. But, at least there are a few good ones. I can't think of ANY Dems in the House or Senate that even talk a good game about freedom.
""I can’t think of ANY Dems in the House or Senate that even talk a good game about freedom."'
You might find a few that will talk about why freedom is bad.
Jared Polis aint that bad
gov tho
lol... I followed him on a suggestion by someone here... and two articles above this one the colorado governors office is pushing orwellian bureaucracy and then trying to silence critics...
That's what I get for trying to have an open my mind leftists
barf
2 wrongs make a right!
Suppressing commies is always the right thing to do.
Is that a pinochet quote? You know this is a libertarian rag, right?
They had it coming.
FFS, the majority of the national media, the House of Representatives and most of the Federal bureaucracy are engaged in what appears to be almost an attempted coup.
While I am exaggerating for effect, how many more anonymous “whistle blowers” who don’t have any facts are going to be taken seriously? This has nothing to do with standard partisan politics. This is taking it to a whole new level.
The funny thing is, Shikha unwittingly put her finger on this in her previous article. Despite (or maybe because of) her 'no sincere criticism' short-sightedness, she was chastising Trump saying that no 3rd world dictator would get away with tossing around claims of treason without drawing ire from the rest of the world. She seems blissfully unaware that a big part of the reason 3rd world dictators toss around accusations of treason is because their cabinets and associated branches of government are rife with corruption and bona fide traitors who are constantly dangling the sword of Damocles over their head. The very sort of position that, while drawing ire, usually causes libertarians to think "Probably best they sort that shit out themselves."
I was a SMOD guy in 2016. The only candidate better than Trump would be the one who pledges a regimented and outright purge of all the branches of government. I'd prefer bloodless but it's not requisite. Jefferson says the tree gets watered, if you (get to) elect which tyrants and patriots blood you water it with, it defeats the purpose. Once the candidate has achieved that, as long as the purge was successful, they could hang him/her/it while drawing and quartering him/her/it into a woodchipper for all I care.
And I kinda hope they do. A very original sin/washed in the blood, moment for the country.
You make a great point. Dictators are more afraid of their own people than they are of their foreign enemies. Dictators are all usurpers and have no legitimacy beyond force. And anyone strong enough can claim power with just as much legitimacy. "Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown" is a line for Henry IV part I and it is talking about Henry IV who usurped the crown from Richard II who was the rightful king. Dictators are in the same position.
And to be honest, I am starting to think that a mob showing up and burning FBI, CIA and DNI headquarters to the ground might be what this country needs. I don't mean kill everyone in those place. Just burn the buildings to the ground as a warning that this sort of thing is not going to be tolerated.
You guys need to be careful what you say. Remember the aftermath of Silk Road, the alphabet boys watch this shit and track you if they think you're a threat. Hell, the guys who took over that bird watching post in Oregon a few years back were part of a group that had a few informants.
Also, remember all the "terrorists" the FBI caught after 9/11? The FBI likes to urge folks to do shit so they can then catch them and look good for the news. Just be careful what you say, online and on the phone
Thanks but any Libertarian knows that we are already on a few lists.
I worked for the government, so I have no problem telling to fuck off and get a warrant based upon probable cause. I don't allow voluntary searches and all my family knows this, so the old "he gave us permission" bullshit wont work.
If you're gonna come, you better pack some lunches and come in force. I am taking 5+ tyrants with me for every one of me.
Dictators are more afraid of their own people than they are of their foreign enemies. Dictators are all usurpers and have no legitimacy beyond force.
See China, N Korea, Cuba, Russia, etc
This is just the lamest possible reason to vote for someone. Waaaahhhh the national media! Third-grade playground shit.
If you support Trump just have the balls to say so. If not, don't vote for him; pick someone you actually agree with or just abstain.
That is a good point. But, sometimes issues arise that are bigger than the individuals involved. Kavanaugh was a good example of this. I think Kavanaugh was a lousy choice for the court. I don't trust him and think he will turn out to be another Roberts. I would have been fine if the Senate had voted him down for legitimate political or legal reasons. Once, however, the Democrats tried to frame him for being a rapist, then Kavanaugh had to be confirmed because whatever objections I have to him being on the Court fall away when compared to the objections I have to allowing the Democrats to get away with slandering anyone they like as a rapist based on the most absurd level of evidence.
The same thing could be true of Trump. Even if you don't like Trump, you still could choose to vote for him on the basis that not voting for him is allowing the deep state and the media the power to choose our leaders.
Voting for someone you don't like, and would never usually vote for, but hate the other option is fair game for voting for the one you don't like.
THIS!!! It is childish to keep dreaming that we can run someone who is the perfect libertarian and will have any hope in hell of even getting any traction at all. (Of course it goes without saying that there is no such thing as a perfect libertarian since we can't agree on anything.) We have to work with what we have got. Of course, if it is a choice between Stalin and Hitler, then fuck em. But, our elections are not that. It may be between shitty and shittier, but shittier is worse.
... you're mad that someone, thinking their boss was doing something fishy, went to their boss's boss rather then the media?
Same. If Trump gets thrown out over this shit, or the Dems pull some shady shit out of Cali to win the election, I'm not seeing any reason to abide by the results. Rule of law only applies when it's applied evenly.
I'm of mixed feelings about Trump 2020. I support him because he's deporting illegal aliens.
On the other hand, he's yet to build any Death Camps.
Did you ever consider that there is not a wide ranging and impossibly large conspiracy against Donald Trump, but that Donald Trump is merely continuing his well-documented and life long habit of being a piece of shit who breaks the law? FFS the man is legally barred from ever running a charity again. There are criminal charges waiting for him at the federal and state levels the second he leaves office, impeachment or no.
Trump is a blowhard and a jerk. However, if he was breaking the law so regularly, why are we talking about nonsense charges that only exist by reading implications into statements.
If he really was as bad as you say, this would be easy.
Open with a lie, closes with proof of having been totally brainwashed..
More bullshit from civil service partisans. That's the likely explanation here given what we've seen these past several years.
And OF FUCKING COURSE some Democrat is going to try to may something out of it. The long knives have been out for Trump since before he took office. The loyal opposition the Democrats are not.
When your Trump conspiracy theory begins to lose Bill Maher.
YES! Maher thinks Trump's conspiracy theories are total bullshit.
Then again, your link goes to Fox. which is like citing MSNBC as an authority on Trump, and the video clip is one of Fox's very worst hosts.
But Maher did ridicule Trumptards.
Language is always evolving. Future etymologists will look back on 2019 as the year when 'credible' came to mean 'unsupported' and 'whistleblower' started to mean 'guy who heard something in a bar.'
You call something credible because you have no evidence it is true but want to believe it is true. If there were any evidence supporting it, you would say it was true.
>>>‘credible’ came to mean ‘unsupported’ and ‘whistleblower’
on another page they're spelling it "Mark Sanford"
‘whistleblower’ started to mean ‘guy who heard something in a bar.’
No, Whistleblower meant someone who doesn't exist.
Diane goes TOTALLY off the rails!
Says Trump's LACKY Director of National Intelligence is full of shit. AND the Inspector General who investigated the evidence.
"THE DEEP STATE IS EVEN DEEPER THAN IMAGINED."
- Chicken Little
'The Stupid Ages'. The era of dimwittedness between the fall of the internet empire and the subsequent enlightenment.
Future historians, anthropology Nazis, and armchair journalists will insist that, much like The Dark Ages moniker, it is a misnomer. They'll point out that schools and even college education were abundant, literacy in even advanced scientific topics was widespread, and that high speed internet made more information more available to more people than ever before... to which any uneducated boob will aptly refute by pointing out that the 'misnomer' was generated by people living in and through the age.
Someone on Twitter yesterday made a very astute point. In the first 20 years of the 20th Century we have had a President start a disasterous war based on incompetent intelligence while also using the intelligence services to spy on Americans, another President who continued and expanded that spying, ordered the assassination of an American citizen without trial or conviction, made a disastrous intervention in Libya, and used the IRS to attack his political enemies. Somehow, it is going to be Trump and not the two President who did those things who gets impeached. That is going to be a great WTF for future historians of the early 20th Century.
The creation of a top secret court should be included in that list.
Well, those two other guys knew how to play the game. They knew what was within the norms of conduct for the office. Thew knew what they would be allowed to get away with.
Trump is an outsider who probably knows how to play the game, but his ego won't let him. He probably knows what is normal, but doesn't care. He thinks he can get away with anything, and he's probably right, but the opposition is still going to try to make him pay for flaunting the arbitrary rules they made up, rather than flaunting the actual law like he was supposed to.
Refusing to play by their arbitrary rules is how you beat them.
Of course, it's not guaranteed to work.
But it's what we need, now more than ever
21st Century, but yeah.
Yeah, he confused me with the 20th Century reference. I thought the “disastrous war based on faulty intelligence and spying on Americans” reference was either to Lyndon Johnson or Woodrow Wilson. Although they are further examples that prove the point.
So you have information that the rest of us don't? You seem very sure this is not a credible complaint.
Do you have information the rest of us don't? You seem very sure this is a credible complaint.
Isn’t of concentrating on one horrible crime, let’s just throw everything over the fence and see what happens.
Good idea!
>>>The important background here provided another in a growing number of parallels between the Trump administration and the Watergate era.
dude run your stuff by a friend first ...
He did. The problem is that the "friend" is the guy who is trying to get him a job at The Atlantic.
lol "go with it!"
No offense...but the Atlantic could get COMPETENT writers. Why would they want THIS dolt? Or anybody here outside of Stossel and the occasional Harsanyi piece?
I didn't say the guy was getting him a job. Just trying.
True. Even Media Matters has SOME standards.
Remember when we thought Dave Weigel was just a weird aberration and not, you know, the first of many for this place?
Yeah. The only one who turned out okay was Tim Kavenaugh. Kavanaugh is still a very interesting and smart guy and the only one who left reason and didn't become a leftist hack.
But there are plenty of people who are seeing a growing number of parallels between the Trump administration and the Watergate era. And many of us are wondering what would have happened to Nixon had there been an internet and an alternative press to counter the MSM narrative that Nixon was the worst President of all time, that nobody liked him, that he was an evil, lying, black-hearted crook, an illegitimate usurper of the Oval Office brought down by honorable men bravely speaking truth to power and doing their civic duty in exposing the monster for what he was. What if Watergate were the same sort of coup we're seeing now with Trump?
Watergate was the same sort of coup. "Deep throat" was an FBI guy pissed off he wasn't made director. John Dean was the worst actor of them all who turned state's evidence and told a fairytale to save his ass.
"John Dean was the worst actor of them all who turned state’s evidence and told a fairytale to save his ass."
That's the dirty little secret. Dean was ALWAYS the dirtiest of all of them. In every single situation, he was neck deep in it.
NOW, he acts like everybody's moral superior.
What if Watergate were the same sort of coup we’re seeing now with Trump?
That's basically what Paul Johnson argued in "Modern Times"--the national media were so gobsmacked that Nixon obliterated their preferred progressive candidate, that they decided to go full-on exceptional and do everything they could to delegitimize his presidency, despite the fact that the shit Nixon did had already been done, and enthusiastically, by his Democrat predecessors.
The problem is they and the New Left went so batshit insane with their concern trolling that the backlash brought Reagan into office six years later.
There is a book that came out in the 1980s called Silent Coup that makes the same point.
Nixon had a bunch of thugs working for him that were actually breaking in and burglarizing his perceived enemies. There was no reason to. He should never had defended any one of those slugs. To this day no one is sure what they were after at the Watergate.
According to the book I reference above, John Dean's wife was a hooker and she knew that the Democrats were running a call girl service and were then blackmailing people with it. They were there to get proof of that and then blackmail the Democrats with that information.
Nixon? The man who ended our involvement in the illegal war the Demorrhoids started in Southeast Asia?
So, the whole Lois Lerner IRS thing never happened, but any third-party rumor about Trump is Gospel?
Seriously! We had definitive proof of wrong doing by a number of Obama administration officials, but nothing happened. In the Trump administration imaginary people who have supposedly heard rumors from other imaginary people constitutes hard evidence that should lead to impeach proceedings.
It is out of control.
rtfa ... they link to their own Lois Lerner takedown,.
The one where they called for criminal charges and possible impeachment of POTUS?
No?
Didn't think so.
What was the precedent set by Lois Lerner?
Obama said there wasn't a "smidgen of corruption" and all the underlings duly followed their marching orders.
So this will be fake like the last all times. It will end up being some bs interpretation of a word. All the democrats seem to have anymore are childish semantics arguments. The true sign of a loser.
The most depressing part of all of this is if the DNC hadn't gone all mothergoose with russian fairy tales, they could have impeached him on Stormy Daniels alone. Easily. But they flooded the TV with so much nonsense, the very real thing got lost in the circus.
Impeaching him for paying off a hooker? Yeah that would have worked out well. I guess it would have been less of a disaster than this will be, but maybe they should have tried to just not be the too stupid, crazy, and evil to vote for under any circumstances party.
To be fair, Lefties would be exposing all their payoffs to hookers if Congress impeached on that issue.
""they could have impeached him on Stormy Daniels alone.""
Is two consenting adults entering into a non-disclosure agreement an impeachable offence?
The idea that he use campaign money is debatable because the checks issued were from Trumps personal account.
Ahhh, you don’t understand.
Paying her off benefitted his campaign, so using his own funds is a campaign finance violation. But it’s not a legitimate campaign expense either, so he couldn’t have used those funds.
The only way to do it would be to ask a rich patron of his to pay off his concubine, while his wife is undergoing cancer treatment / childbirth.
with that kind of interpretation, it can be argued that journalists make campaign contributions simply by reporting
"In the letter, Neal wrote that the committee was informed of "inappropriate efforts to influence" a mandatory Internal Revenue Service (IRS) audit of the president and Vice President Mike Pence."
This is very questionable whistlerblower complaint since -
there is no such think as a "Mandatory Internal Revenue Service Audit"
Secondly - an IRS examination of a return is confidential - So how could the the Whistleblower have knowledge with learning from a Rogue IRS employee.
Third - disclosure of any tax return information is a federal crime. Leaking the WB complaint to a Congressional committee is a federal crime.
That is a very good point. I have never heard of their being a mandatory audit of anyone let alone a sitting President.
And there is no way this person could have second hand knowledge of such matters without someone committing a crime by giving him such information.
This is more pathetic than the Ukraine one.
If there was a mandatory audit, having the tax information in advance would not preempt the audit. So if mandatory audits are true, there would be a mandatory audit on every president since the rule took affect.
President or not, Trump gets audited every single year.
This^^^^^
The IRS has a very high percentage of audits for people who earn over some amount of millions.
The government does not want to miss out on millions in taxes if there was some tax filing discrepancy.
Even if there really is a wolf this time, the villagers don't believe you anymore.
And given the feelings towards the IRS of the average American, nobody is going to give a shit about this.
Pretty much that. What kind of a bubble does someone have to live in to convince themselves that screwing the IRS is going to make a politician less popular with the average voter?
Villager here, and I approve of this comment.
Just as long as you don't get angry and grab a torch, everything will be fine.
what about a pitchfork?
A Georgia Foreman grill with extension cord?
"Trump could put an end to the question of whether this is a legitimate allegation of wrongdoing or another "deep state" plot against his presidency by simply following the example of his predecessors and releasing his tax returns."
But wouldn't we miss all the fun and the entertainment the media provides us about all this? I mean, it would be like cancelling Monday Night Football or something......
I wouldn't be surprised if Trump releases his tax returns on his last day of office and not a single thing of interest is in any of them.
I am not a supporter of Trump, but I'll bet his accountants and tax-preparers are as good as can be bought, so I wouldn't be surprised, either, if they are really boring.
They are almost certainly, long, complex, and boring. There is no way the typical 20 something know nothing journalist would have any idea what they were looking it. It would be a Rorschach test for retards.
Even if Trump does have a discrepancy on his taxes, they are 100% completed by tax professionals. Any error would be the tax prepper's errors.
Nobody is going to buy that Trump personally is trying to stiff the IRS on a few bucks like every America used to do with donation deductions.
Trump might be the least corrupt, or "cleanest", president we've had in a long time...
So Trump tried to stop the review of his tax returns, on some forgotten date, at some forgotten place, with no witnesses, based on the disclosures of an anonymous source.
Seems vaguely familiar.
Band camp.
But as opposed to this message, I would actually pay to see Alyson Hannigan fapping with a flute.
IRS employees have engaged in nakedly partisan activities
I first read that as naked party activities and was interested for a few seconds. Yawn...
There is no sex like accountant sex.
Accountants do it with internal control.
But count me out of IRS sex. Expensive, sadistic beyond belief, and no safe word.
Since this is about his present tax returns it has nothing to do with his past returns so releasing those would make no difference in this case and as we have seen releasing anything makes no difference to those who hate him for they will say it says whatever they want even when it doesn't
It's time to reform the civil service. With certain exceptions, 5 year contracts for all CC government employees.
I've called for bringing back the spoils system. Then, at least SOMEBODY is ultimately responsible for a moron having the job.
Now, we have faceless lumpen mesomorphs who scarcely even qualify as human abusing their authority.
Interesting, I am reading a biography of Grant. The author presents evidence Grant originally opposed the spoil system and supported civil service reform. But he came to change his mind and found that there were little difference in the quality of appointees between the two systems. Of course, the author is a bit of a Grant apologist so he may have been covering for the corruption of Grant's administration.
I'd rather have "Well, look at this asshole Trump appointed who did this terrible thing" then "random yahoo who atches porn 12 hrs a day at work does this..."
They are less accountable than ever and do worse work than ever.
Agreed
New tactic, same old goal. Maybe they will give up when Trump retires from his second term in office!
Can they impeach after he leaves office? Interestingly enough Congress did impeach a member of Grant's administration after he had resigned.
So Boehm is making the argument. "What is the problem if you do not have anything to hide" that libertarians are so fond of in all other matters concerning privacy.*
*This is sarcasm.
If there was a real problem with Trump's tax return, we would already know about it, it would have already been leaked.
Pretty much that. After Trump won the election, it was a good bet they had nothing on him or you would have heard about it during the election the way you heard about the pussy graber tape. For that reason, I have never thought there would ever be some giant shoe drop on Trump.
Okay, so write a letter encouraging him to release his no-problem tax papers. You'd think he'd just do it if there were no problem.
Maddow released them already.
Let me guess: the Democrats can't release any evidence to back up these claims because it will "endanger" the "whistleblower", right?
Disheartening to see a libertarian-leaning news outlet agreeing that Trump should release his tax returns because other presidents did. That's not a reason. That's pure stupidity. I've never heard anyone say they want to see Trump's tax returns, and most of my friends are liberals. The constant vitriol you show toward the president is on display in almost every story. You've thrown out all basic tenets of fair journalism and sound more like MSNBC, WaPo, NYT, and CNN. Give it a rest, will ya?
I think all federal officials (at least elected and appointed) should be required (by law) to release all of their tax returns. If they want to have that kind of power over we the people then they need to expose themselves to extreme scrutiny by we the people.
Then propose the law. But until that law is passed and signed, NO President should release their taxes.
+100
Problem is Congress exempted themselves from audits as they have so many other things like Obamacare. A member of Congress cannot be audited while in office. Explains why Dems go and stay for decades
+100
No, because then all you'll get are the W-2 earners with simple returns, which means mostly people who have spent their whole lives in the political swamp. The more talented people likely have complex returns that, even if they are doing everything they can to follow the law, will be endlessly scrutinized.
Meanwhile, anyone really cheating won't be telling the IRS that in a tax filing. The whole thing is a waste of time.
It seems they're more interested in blowing each others' whistles than in doing anything to help the public.
Seems you're more interested in blowing trump that doing anything to help the public.
Low effort response. Sad!
Well, <iwearingit has had Hillary's cock in his mouth since Nov 2016, so its hard for him to do anything else.
So you're saying he knows what Huma tastes like?
Doesn't this person know that Trump is a king and we just have to bow to his greatness and never question him?!
Can you point to anyone saying that? Or just jousting at windmills again?
So we have an anonymous, likely second-hand, allegation of wrongdoing, and a direct statement by the IRS commissioner contradicting it.
This is just more abuse of power by Congressional Democrats in an attempt to subvert the 2020 election.
They are trying to clog people's ears with white noise before they start hearing about the abuses of power committed by the prior administration and the DNC during the last election.
Do you really find it that hard to believe that Trump might be corrupt?
No more so than any other rich person or politician. For some weird reason, the Democrats only care about this one, though. Probably because they lost.
Such high standards you have. We are talking about potus, no?
Also happens to be one of history's most successful grifters. Not in terms of money made, but he is potus.
Actually, yes, after years of investigations, subpoenas, and half the country hating his guts, I find it hard to believe that Trump is corrupt in any significant way that I care about. So far, nobody has presented any evidence, and people who have claimed to have incontrovertible evidence have all turned out to be liars.
Yet, the corruption of Biden, Obama, and the Clintons have been documented with dollar amounts, people, and actual actions. So if there is actual corruption, it seems to be possible for people to find it.
The conclusion must then be that the investigators are inept. Obviously Trump is guilty, that much everyone is sure of. They just can't prove any of their myriad claims, and every time they try all that gets unearthed is questionable conduct on the part of those they are defending from the obviously guilty Trump.
At this point, it seems the most logical answer to what is going on is that they want to keep controversy alive until 2020. It doesn't really matter what the controversy is, all that matters is that the Trump administration is always under investigation.
I think the goal was not to impeach, but just to keep investigations going. That they haven't found anything after years of open ended investigations means that either the investigators are dumber than Ken Starr or there isn't anything to find.
How believable is it that every one of the dozens, if not hundreds, of investigators are dumb as a bag of hammers?
Of course, it's always possible they'll find a smoking gun that proves their claims about Trump. It's just a question of how much fishing qualifies something as a fishing expedition.
There have been millions of dollars and thousands of hours poured into finding the slightest bit of wrongdoing in Trump's past...
And they got nothing significant
"Do you really find it that hard to believe that Trump might be corrupt?"
Given the rectal exam he's gotten, he's the cleanest we've had in a very, very long time.
lol imagine being Tony and pretending you didn't think Putin was hiding under your bed for three years.
It's over dude. They investigated. They got nothing. You're a punk and a fool.
lol
*Whistleblower claims the president murdered a hooker and stuffed her in a mattress. Has photographic evidence.*
Nonpartisan free-thinking libertarians: "Before I can form an opinion, which letter does he have after his name?"
Probably a "D," if his name is Kennedy.
Whistleblower claims the president murdered a hooker and stuffed her in a mattress. Has photographic evidence.*
Let us know when that photographic evidence comes in, rather than Taylor the GS-9 claiming that several officials in the Department of Hookers expressed concern about the President possibly snuffing out the hooker illegally.
Adam Schiff has it!
You gotta trust him THIS time
There is no government agency corrupt or overbearing enough to not be able to earn the respect of Reason as long as they fight the Orange Man.
For now at least the IRS are Heroes in the eyes of Reason.
I wonder who they'd pick if ICE came out against him
the Committee's concerns about the absence of appropriate safeguards as part of the mandatory audit program
"Oh, NO! Now the public sees that Congress fucked up *again*!"
I hear that whistle blowin', so far down the line
I've been investigatin' Trump since the dawn of time
This time he must be guilty, the walls are closing in
I'll railroad them to prison, him and all his kin
????
damn. Tried to add a musical note for your song and it gave that.
Every other President has been a career politician. The President knows regardless of whats his returns show, the media and Dems will lie. Lets not forget that in 2012, Harry Reid stood on the Senate Floor and flat out lied about Romney claiming he paid no taxes. Since Senators are immune from lawsuits or any other punitive action when they speak on the floor, they know they are safe. When asked later about his flat out lie, Reid’s only response was “it worked, didnt it?” The President has been in office for almost three years and suddenly, right now, this “whistleblower” has decided to come forward? Gee, i would assume this would be the 2nd or 3rd audit of President since he was elected. Timing is very suspect
Another whistleblower? They must have felt the tactic they used with Kavanaugh worked pretty well..... "Darn, this isn't working. Quick! Find another crazy attention seeker!"
Democrats will pay for this bullshit for a decade at minimum. Absolutely unbelievable what is happening to this country.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's a second whistleblower and the Chinese are not Dictators (according to Bloomie). Green mandates and retrofits are good for the economy. Taxpayer funded research and data anaylsis for crony hedge funds that own leftie media are *free market capitalism* (see Colorado), and when you disagree, CENSOR. We fucking get it, the cronies should stop acting like cornered rats and just say that they can run our lives and business better than we can, at least DeBlasio says it out loud.
Another investigation? These people need to find themselves a better hobby.
Trump should turn over his tax records just like Obama turned over his academic records.
Oh, wait....
No relevance. Just more whining by the wackiest of the wacky right.
How did not seeing Obama's academic records enrich Obama?
P.S. Trump also refuses his own grades. (lol)
Trump hides his returns because Trump Org is an LLC, one type of "pass through." Pass throughs report business profits on personal returns, and can have unlimited shareholders. (A shameless GOP loophole)
.
As a candidate, Trump campaigned on a nearly 50% cut in the maximum tax rate for pass through -- to 20%. The max rate applies to very few wealthy guys, including Trump. He'd have been a billionaire paying a maximum income tax rate of 20% -- less than many of his supporters who earn a lot less, the suckers.
What he asked for failed. But he LIED about his tax bill, snarling that his taxes increased. MASSIVE bullshit. He got a 20% tax cut!!! Cutting the rates would have exposed the GOP fraud, so they exempted the first 20% of income -- which is the same thing (do the math) for the mega-rich.
So ... Trump has been using the Presidency to personally enrich himself, since long before he got elected!
(A Rachel Maddow screamfest on his tax rate, pre tax cut, fucked up by dividing the tax paid by his GROSS income, not his taxable income, a common fraud by progressives. For Trump , Maddow's fraud was immense, because real estate investors have a LOT of depreciation between Gross and Taxable income).
They're ALL corrupt.

Now watch all the snarling raging hatred and screeching, from the many Trump-like thugs here. Just laugh them off, like I did here. (smirk)

FACT: England's 2nd gun control (1996) saw ONE mass shooting in 22 years
Adjust for population (5:1) and they had 5 shootings in 22 years … We had 250 in 7 months. Do the math.
Mass Shootings Per year
UK = 0.2 per year
US = 426.7 per year = 2,130,000% higher mass shootings

Trump cheated on his taxes? Good for him! I hope he gets away with it.
We already know you're total lack of moral values.
Do you hope he gets away with sexual abuse? Fraud?
Trump did NOT get away with ... FRAUD!
You feel NO SHAME that YOUR President was FORCED to pay a $25 million settlement .... FOR FUCKING FRAUD ... while in office?
When a fascist like you accuses me of "having no moral values", that's a ringing endorsement. Keep it up!
I've "settled" traffic tickets that were clearly invalid because it's cheaper to settle than to fight. When faced with the almighty state making demands, settling is often easier than fighting.
Why would I feel shame over some politician? He isn't "my president"; I didn't even vote for him and I don't particularly like him.
Anyone stupid enough t believe his last sentence?
Or that he LIED about my question, the shameless coward?
The question NOYB2 LIED about, as a cowardly evasion.,
Which now PROVES NOYB2 a fraud.

A progressives do with everything they touch, they have now devalued "whistle-blowers" so they're no on par with gossipy teenage girls. (yea, I know. How chauvinist of me)
That's not chauvinist. It's tribal.
And typically childish.
So, submitting a complaint is now a "coup" according to the Trump bootlickers around here?
Here is a clue: None of the whistleblowers, whether they are legitimate or not, are brandishing weapons and commanding battalions poised to imminently overthrow the government.
If Trump is impeached and removed, it will not be because of a whistleblower. It will be because Representatives and Senators deemed it so. These same Representatives and Senators who are also elected by the people, pursuant to the Constitution.
Whistleblowers may be exposing what they legitimately believe to be government corruption. Or, they may just be shills perpetuating rumors. Whatever their motivations are, they have no power in and of themselves. Only those who actually DO have power have the ability to do anything about those complaints, IF ANYTHING.
Up abovem Jeff, Tony asks if its really that hard to believe Trump is corrupt.
You take issue with the 'coup' talk.
But, think about it for a minute with no lenses on.
They've been talking about impeachment since before he took office. During the transition they tried to hang things on him--things that would render him unable to take office.
And they've been going since then.
A huge number of people have been combing everything the man does trying to find something--anything--to get him out of office.
And they throw all kinds of stuff up hoping that something will stick--and when it doesn't they move to the next batch.
And this has happened over and over again.
Before becoming president the man was audited regularly. And they found nothing then.
Isn't this getting old, even to you?
They changed the rules about complaints to allow hearsay complaints to try to get him.
And that isn't working.
Isn't it time to admit that maybe, just maybe, the reason they can't get him on anything is because there's nothing to get him on?
Maybe he's not corrupt?
Still an asshole--just not a corrupt one.
They’ve been talking about impeachment since before he took office.
Hey guess what. You know what some leftists were calling Bush's election, even before Inauguration day? A "right-wing coup".
Plenty of Republicans wanted to impeach Obama.
And Republicans actually did impeach Clinton.
Why do you think Trump is somehow special in this regard? It is just continuing in the same trend.
Maybe you should think about not trying to portray Trump as the perpetual victim here. Trump is a big boy. He can defend himself if he chooses to.
And they throw all kinds of stuff up hoping that something will stick–and when it doesn’t they move to the next batch.
Do you think this is unique to Trump?
Have you been asleep for the past 50 years?
Trump may or may not be corrupt. My personal theory on the matter is that Trump is more like your doddering old grandpa who watches Fox News all day and then wants to start a conversation with you about the "librulz destroying Murica". He is more inept than corrupt. But I also think it is plain that he doesn't see anything wrong with asking for "favors" from foreign leaders.
They changed the rules about complaints to allow hearsay complaints to try to get him.
This part is just factually untrue. The laws about whistleblowers have not changed since 2015.
Oh and by the way.
Democrats actually did file 35 articles of impeachment against Bush Jr.
One can argue that Bush Jr. deserved it far more than Trump does. And there is merit to that argument.
On the other hand, one can also argue that filing articles of impeachment against The Other Tribe has become more or less de rigeur. Every president since Nixon has had articles of impeachment introduced against them, except (curiously) Gerald Ford. Every single one. Why should Trump be regarded as special in this regard?
For cause.
For cause.
True: a trend of Democrats impeaching for political reasons and Republicans impeaching for cause.
I don't think you're quite getting what I'm saying.
You're trying to answer things with 'whataboutism' and tu quoque.
And that's irrelevant.
What I'm saying is that the man was thoroughly audited--regularly-- before he ran for president. And wasn't found to have committed jailable offense. He's been under investigation by the left, the media, and the establishment GOP since it became clear that his candidacy wasn't intended as a joke.
And, since Election Day 2016, the left, the media, and to some extent the establishment GOP have been trying to find something, anything they can get him out of office with.
And they have failed. Spectacularly.
With this snakes and alligators thing they have made it plain that they will utterly obliterate any shreds of credibility they might have had left just to --maybe-- get an impeachment vote out there that will fail in the Senate.
Everything they've done--all of them, left, right and center-- has failed to turn up anything real.
And here is the crux of what I was asking--what if no one can find anything because there ISN'T anything?
Disinformation is one of the primary ways of staging a coup. Just ask the CIA. Or your friends at the KGB.
THEN STOP DOING IT.
Dumbfuck Hihnsano sticking up for his CIA spying buddies.
You left out the bold face! Your arguments become ever so much more convincing in bold face!
The boldface is draws attention to RIDICULE.
Here, I ridicule your wacky notion of a coup.
Did you also swallow Trump's other craziest conspiracies, Pizzagate, Crowdstrike, Birtherism? Or any of the dozens of lesser ones?
From Trump's own twitter feed:
"As I learn more and more each day, I am coming to the conclusion that what is taking place is not an impeachment, it is a COUP, intended to take away the Power of the...."
"....People, their VOTE, their Freedoms, their Second Amendment, Religion, Military, Border Wall, and their God-given rights as a Citizen of The United States of America!"
So Trump's bootlickers here are paraphrasing Trump's own agitprop on the matter.
As long as it pisses you off, it's all good.
You’re very familiar with agitprop aren’t you, Jeff? Did they cover it in communist summer camp?
However, in this case, Trump is merely expressing a suspicion lots of Americans are already having. The CIA has brought down numerous governments with disinformation. Why do you think it is unreasonable to think they would do it at home too?
Watchdog, experts debunk Trump claim whistleblower rules changed before complaint
Another one bites ... another one bites ... another one bites the dust
Here's the requirements:
In any case, the whistleblower information turned out to be false. Furthermore, Trump's phone call turned out to be within the bounds of Trump's authority.
Cowardly diversion
And another fucking lie ... with no link ... WHILE DENYING THE PROVEN FACTS.
Plus TOTAL psycho lies.
PRESIDENTS -- AND CANDIDATES - HAVE THE "RIGHT" TO INVITE FOREIGN INTERVENTION IN .... TWO CONSECUTiVE ELECTIONS!!!
Trump did warn us ... that he'd LIE, even to defend Trump from cold-blooded murder. So NOYB2's 7 proven lies on this page are ... trivial?
Ukrainegate. Did Trump commit suicide by releasing "transcript" PROVING he invited a foreign government to interfere in our 2020 election? (like he invited Russia in 2016)
Dumbfuck Hihnsano still assmad that Mueller Claus put coal in his stocking.
I approve of any US politician getting information corruption by any other US politician from any source they can get, using money, foreign aid, or any other legitimate power of the US government.
Americans are willing for Democrats to make their case... again. Why not?
How about you learn the difference between "whistle-blower" and "snitch". Big difference and if you trendy little bastards would just stick to the language you may someday be a real journalist, do not count on it but maybe.
I doubt anyone else is so stupid on what a whistleblower is and does.
AND YOU SAID THAT IN PUBLIC!!!
If the snowflake looters use the IRS to attack The Don, there may be a way to exploit this for repeal of the Nixon anti-Libertarian Law. Passed in the 24-hours in which the LP became a political party, TITLE VII–TAX INCENTIVES FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO CANDIDATES FOR PUBLIC OFFICE and TITLE VIII – FINANCING OF PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION CAMPAIGNS , SECTION 801. PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION CAMPAIGN FUND ACT not only funnels tax money for looters to buy media whores, it also set the example copied worldwide to stop nascent libertarian parties from forming. That is exportation of fascism plain and simple.
There is no requirement to release them so Trump is in compliance. He has been audited. If congress wants to make releasing returns a requirement it should extend to all those in the house and senate. That would discourage most from running for office, especially those that have been in office for decades.
ERIC BOEHM
"Regardless, Trump could put an end to the question of whether this is a legitimate allegation of wrongdoing or another "deep state" plot against his presidency by simply following the example of his predecessors and releasing his tax returns."
Do you honestly believe that if Trump releases his tax returns that the Democrats and the "Anti-Trump" crowd will drop it or it will end the endless inquiries? While I'm not a Trump fan, didn't vote for him and don't plan to. Enough is enough. This crown of Democrats and "Anti-Trump" fanatics are only proving Trumps claims.
I expect more from reporters, opinion columnists, the news and frankly Reason and you. There is so much bias, spin, and BS now days it's appalling.
AND OBAMA IS A MUSLIM FROM KENYA!
SPACE ALIENS .. ROSWELL
PIZZAGATE
CROWDSTRIKE
NO RUSSIAN INTERFENCE
“Regardless, Trump could put an end to the question of whether this is a legitimate allegation of wrongdoing or another “deep state” plot against his presidency by simply following the example of his predecessors and releasing his tax returns.”
Libertarians now deciding that protections from searches aren’t needed because you should have nothing to hide.
So, Reason, what is your plan POST-Trump? You’ve demonstrated that nothing you’ve ever claimed to believe are things you ACTUALLY believe. You’re just a less well-written version of Salon.
+1000
So, you can do neither, thinking nor reading (or being honest).
Libertarians have NEVER defended "wrongdoing" by government officials, elected or appointed. So you have the IQ of a Salon reader, like all of your conrades on the Authoritarian Right.
It says UNREASONABLE searches or seizures.
And the earth IS round!
Libertarians now outraged that whistleblower protection laws protect whistleblowers.
Is there any law protecting employees y'all can get behind?
Authoritarian-Right Thugs are NOT libertarian.
This is the shoddiest vaguest news reporting I have ever seen from reason you have no evidence that this whistle blower report is even real. and if it is it already has more holes in it than Swiss cheese. the biggest hole being Trump has been the duly elected President of the United States for 3 damn years! which means hes been doing these audits for 3 years don't you think that this would have come up by now? don't you think the IRS would have flagged this behavior by now. Also there is not actual allegation in your reporting. Just phrases like "circumvent the audit process." Circumvent how? also you bring up in this very article that the IRS has engaged in misconduct against political opponents before, so until you have some evidence, I see absolutely no reason to take this report at face value.
Do we believe a nobody like you ... or the Inspector General Otr is he part of your Deep State Conspiracy?
Especially when you recite Trump's absolute craziest defense, that impeachment should have never been placed in the Constitution.
How long was Nixon in office? 🙂
You fool nobody Trumpster.
"To be fair, IRS employees have engaged in nakedly partisan activities before"
That is Mighty White and Kreeeeeeshchaaan of you to conveniently pretend to forget to mention in the above link the "per capita" number of organizations whose applications where investigated.
https://www.politico.com/story/2017/10/05/audit-irs-scrutiny-liberal-non-profits-243497
A new report on the IRS’s treatment of nonprofit groups indicates the agency subjected numerous liberal-leaning groups to extra scrutiny when they sought tax-exempt status, the latest wrinkle in a saga that has mostly focused on how conservative groups were treated.
While the audit released Thursday by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration doesn't discuss the political leanings of the additional groups it identified, the criteria used by the IRS to flag groups based on their names or policy positions included left-leaning organizations and causes like “ACORN Successors,” “Green Energy,” “Medical Marijuana,” and “Progressive.” . . .
But I digress.
In what universe, or dimension, is promoting a vile evil murderous pro-pollution ideology that is murdering more Americans than all the radical Islamic organizations combined, on top of waging a 38+ year jihad on shared prosperity and the middle class, magically considered to be "social welfare"?
Oh yeah, Politico--another highly-credible and unbiased source of news...

They are more credible than the trash from Trump or his miniions
Trump is corrupt, dishonest and delusional and he's infectious. He has legions of little guys, whom he DGAF about, defending all his sleazy moves. I met a contractor who told me how he ripped him off on a contract to install new carpets in one of Trump's building and that almost tanked his company because his little outfit couldn't match cheater Trump's legal team.
ALL of Trump's actual businesses tanked, 12 as I recall, 6 for sure as formal bankruptcies.
And who can name any other President who had to pay a $25 million settlement, for fraud, while in office!
He spent years posting at Volkh where he could push people around.
Do you guys still wonder why society has rejected you and your preferences?
Preference, it isn't a preference. It is an orientation you bigot.
Do you wonder why your right hand has rejected you?
Because everyone, deep down, knows they want to be ruled by people like Stalin, Mao and Hitler?
Yeah, I know: freedom is scary. It means having to provide for yourself, even when you struggle to find a job. There are a lot of people who would rather risk going to the gulag or being sent straight to the execution chamber, than to risk spending time without a job -- and possibly even without a home -- wondering what you are going to do when money runs out.
I am currently unemployed. I have been unemployed several times -- apparently working for startups aren't exactly the best way to achieve stability -- and right now, I'm a little afraid that unemployment will run out, and I'll be left to wonder what to do next. Fortunately, I have family and Church to help me out here, even if their support is imperfect.
Overall, though, I'd still rather live on the street, than live in a society where can be sent to the gulag because I disagree with the current rulers.
Not quite to the most impervious of observers -- Rev. Arthur L. Kirkland is a counter-example, after all -- but it seems to be getting there.
^^This. We're all victims, in one way or another, of the ruling class both left and right, and their mindless cults of robotic followers.
