Democrat Rep. Al Green Moves To Impeach Trump for his Attacks on 'The Squad'
Plus: Planned Parenthood's CEO is terminated, the Trump administration drains the swap, and Chelsea Manning is hit with more fines.

President Donald Trump's feud with "the squad" of Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D–N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (D–Minn.), Ayanna Pressley (D–Mass.), and Rashida Tlaib (D–Mich.) has now sparked a fresh attempt to impeach the president. On Tuesday night, Rep. Al Green (D–Texas) filed articles of impeachment against Trump for his remarks aimed at the four hard-left representatives.
Moments before Green introduced his impeachment resolution, the House had voted to condemn the president's verbal attacks on the congresswomen, in which he called them "anti-Israel, anti-USA, pro-terrorist" and urging them to "go back" to their home countries. (All but Omar were born in America.)
That resolution did not go far enough for Green, who said that Trump's remarks amounted to a high misdemeanor worthy of impeachment. Trump "by causing such harm to the society of the United States is unfit to be president, and warrants impeachment, trial, and removal from office," said Green in a floor speech.
This is the Texas representative's third time trying to impeach Trump, having forced unsuccessful impeachment votes in 2017 and 2018. However, this is Green's first try at impeaching the president with a majority-Democrat House.
This puts Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D–Calif.), an impeachment critic, in the tough position of having to decide whether or not to squash Green's resolution.
Under House rules, Pelosi has two days to decide whether to table Green's impeachment resolution (effectively killing it), send it to the House Judiciary Committee where it could linger indefinitely, or bring it up for a vote on the House floor. So far, she isn't indicating which option she'll pick.
"That will be up to our leadership team to decide," Pelosi told CNN Tuesday. "We haven't really discussed how to dispose of it," said Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D–Md.) to reporters. "I'm not gonna try to discourage [Green], you know, he has to do what he thinks is right."
Any actual vote would likely fail, as only 86 House members have said they'd support impeaching Trump. What a vote on Green's resolution would do is force a lot of Democrats to go on the record about their support or opposition to impeachment—something many have been reluctant to do.
Even if an impeachment vote were to succeed in the House, it would be dead on arrival in the Republican-controlled Senate.
There are some good reasons one might have for impeaching Trump. That he's made nasty remarks about a few congresswomen doesn't seem to be one of them.

Dr. Leana Wen, Planned Parenthood's president and CEO, announced that she would be resigning her position with the organization, citing philosophical differences with the group's board of directors. "I believe that the best way to protect abortion care is to be clear that it is not a political issue but a health care one," said Wen in a Tuesday evening statement. "We can expand support for reproductive rights by finding common ground with the vast majority of Americans who understand reproductive health care as the fundamental health care that it is."

— Leana Wen, M.D. (@DrLeanaWen) July 16, 2019
The New York Times reports that there had been a lot of staff turnover at the upper levels of Planned Parenthood during Wen's eight-month tenure, suggesting organizational disarray as a reason for her ouster.
I obviously have no particular insight into the case of Dr. Wen, but my general observation of covering other organizations is that firing a chief executive after 9 months is often a symptom of much deeper organizational dysfunction.

According to Buzzfeed, Wen's refusal to move the group in a more political direction, and to use "trans-inclusive" language, earned her enemies.
UPDATE: Two sources told us that Wen also refused to use "trans-inclusive" language, for example saying "people" instead of "women," telling staff that she believed talking about transgender issues would "isolate people in the Midwest." https://t.co/Db2ooboz4o

The Trump administration is planning on draining the swamp just a little bit by relocating federal employees from Washington to real America. On Tuesday, the White House informed Congress that it would be relocating 84 percent of the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) headquarters staff—260 people—out of D.C.
The BLM is responsible for managing federally owned lands, most of which are located out west. The bulk of BLM bureaucrats would be sent to Grand Junction, Colorado. The rest would be spread across other western states, including Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, and Utah.
Nearly half of the BLM's leadership is located in D.C. "despite the fact that their functions and operations are overwhelmingly carried out in the West," said Interior Department official Joseph Balash in a letter to Congress explaining the decision.
The planned move, which is slated to be completed by 2020, would allow BLM to provide better customer service while saving money on travel and leasing office space, Balash wrote. The White House estimates the move will save $50 million over 20 years.
Last year, Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced plans to move 550 Department of Agriculture employees to Kansas City.
Instead of moving them west, a more libertarian solution would probably be to fire more BLM workers. But if we can't get a smaller federal government, a cheaper, more spread out one is still preferable.

On Tuesday night, Rep. Al Green (D–Texas) filed articles of impeachment against Trump for his remarks aimed at the four hard-left representatives.
Like puppets on the president's strings.
Hello.
"...is that firing a chief executive after 9 months is often a symptom of much deeper organizational dysfunction."
There's gotta be a joke in there somewhere.
Read the tweet replies
*chef's kiss*
I really do try to see both sides, but the left is full of such hateful losers I can't help but support Trump. Cry racism, cry about "fairness", cry about mean tweets.... Meanwhile Trump keeps seating judges, keeps the economy rolling, and forces shithole countries to step up and take asylum seekers.
If only he would cut spending, I'd vote for him indefinitely
keeps the economy rolling
Presidents don't run the economy. Fuck giving him or any president any credit in that arena other then he hasn't stuck his nose in too much that it has fucked up the economy. Although I don't give him credit for that since you know he's tariffs have had a negative effect in my field all in order to protect Union Steel and Communist Silicon Valley.
But yes to the rest of the sentiment especially cut spending.
Fair. I don't love the way he is playing games with tariffs. Maybe a better take would be "has yet to fuck the booming economy up with over-regulation"
get out of the way of the economy and the deregulating scheme he has set up is enough to vote for re-election.
and since when did being a bully become a high crime or misdemeanor?
You should try harder.
I really do try. I come here every day to hear what supposed libertarians think. And every day Suderman or some other pussy writes an article crying about how it's racist to support my own country over other countries, or why it's okay for the world to come into the US and demand access to my services but I have no right to stop them.
Why, of course. Upsetting the crybullies is totes impeachable, man!
This puts Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D–Calif.), an impeachment critic, in the tough position of having to decide whether or not to squash Green's resolution.
You say squash, I say quash. Let's call the whole presidency off.
Here is my question: is this latest round of presidential tweets just Trump being his usual narcissistic I have to be the center of attention self, or is it possible that he is being calculating and trying to make the most of the Democrats infighting? Seems to me they were doing a pretty good job of tearing each other apart when he had to insert himself into the brouhaha.
Let's not open up the can of worms that is intent. Let's just enjoy politicians tearing each other apart.
Unless maybe he was trying to push Pelosi and the "Squad" together, so the Democrat Party can't separate itself from its more radical elements? I don't know, I don't 3D chess.
This is my take as well. Include Biden in that, he can't claim to be moderate while supporting these clowns.
He also cut off asylum and there wasn't much news about it. Further proving that these women of color give zero fucks about anything but their personal messaging. If they actually cared they'd go on TV and talk about that instead of talking about themselves.
"that these women of color give zero fucks about anything but Saikat Chakrabarti's personal messaging"
FTFY
His approval rating is up 4 points and topped 50% this week. there is your answer
Trump's recent overt bigotry has increased his support among Republicans by five points or so but reduced it among independents (in the 30s) and Democrats.
Five Thirty-Eight has Trump at 42.4. RealClearPolitics' right-leaning take is 44.6. NashTiger may be relying on the Sovereign Militia Citizen Patriot Real American Foxtastic Slack-Jaw Jesus poll (which adjusts to emulate conditions of the 1950s).
You mad!!!
Always
I don't know whether it was calculating or not; I cannot read minds.
But I do know that for the foreseeable future, any Democrat who tries to "Sister Souljah" a member of the Squad will be painted as taking the side of that-racist-Trump.
It's also made his change in asylum policy be basically ignored by the press WHILE making the Dems embrace their least likeable and most radical members.
This is the Texas representative's third time trying to impeach Trump
So, basically it’s a Wednesday for Al Green. And no, the Squad still won’t sleep with you.
Good look'n he ain't, but his namesake could sing some pretty cool tunes.
I must have missed Harambe getting elected in Texas ...
That chu Donald?
He still so tired of being alone.
And yet, Trump does not demand that he go back to jhis country.
come to think of it, he never demanded such a thing from Sheila Jackson-Lee, John Lewis, or Maxine Waters.
Nobody will pay for the 23andMe kits to figure our where they're from.
Oh baby
Let's impeach together
Impeach him for whatever, whether
times are good or bad, happy or sad
Trump "by causing such harm to the society of the United States is unfit to be president, and warrants impeachment, trial, and removal from office," said Green in a floor speech.
"Moreover, most of this legislative body is similarly guilty of spewing harmful bullshit and should also be removed," he continued, and promptly resigned.
Wouldn't that be nice...
Beach Boys refrain
The Trump administration is planning on draining the swamp just a little bit by relocating federal employees from Washington to real America.
"Flyover country" turns out to be just a pejorative and not a mandate. Welcome to the sticks.
The case for impeaching Putin's Puppet is even stronger this week than it was last week. And it was pretty darn strong already, since Robert Mueller's exhaustive investigation conclusively proved what Rachel Maddow has been saying for years.

Late term career termination.
Postpartum abortion.
They accidentally posted the Reason Podcast too early.. the content of which prompted a pro-free speech screed on my part. Then they unposted it... so I'm dropping my screed here for safekeeping.
The topic:
Of course, that ship has sailed. The world has moved on and the debate is no longer over whether they should censor their users, but over what they should be censoring. Even Reason has come down on the side of "Huzzah for the private censors" because Team Trump took up the other side.
The love of censorship has spread so quickly and so widely that it is springing up in the most unexpected places. In last weeks "The Skeptic's Guide to the Universe" podcast they had discussion about the effect of social media on spreading disinformation and pseudoscience - topics like anti-vaxxers, anti-GMO, climate change deniers, and more particularly - fake medical treatments. The case that sparked the discussion was one of an activist/blogger who got cancer and after surgery she eschewed the recommended chemotherapy and pursued a "natural" cure. Of course, it didn't work. She eventually ran back to her doctors for a course of chemotherapy, but it was too late and she died.
But her online presence soldiers on. Her testimonials still up and the folks who worked with her still espousing the same views on social media.
So the SGU team was unanimous that these sorts of dangerous views should not be allowed on social media like Facebook and Twitter. They were adamant that these "huge corporations" need to be responsible citizens and block this sort of misinformation.
So there ya go. A bunch of self-described rational thinking skeptics who are of a left-liberal political bent, proudly - nay, indignantly demanding that the public square (in the form of social media) be closed to those who espouse "pseudoscientific views".
And at least when they make the argument "this speech is dangerous", the are actually talking about a real physical danger to people who believe the questionable speech and put it in action.
And in some cases, a real physical danger to others around them (anti-vaxxers have not only convinced a bunch of rich, liberal soccer moms to put their kids in danger, but they've killed quite a few people who did not follow the anti-vax ideology but were simply a statistical casualty to the outbreaks that the anti-vaxxers created.)
So for those of you who are sanguine about political censorship in social media, online hosting, internet services and banking because of your dislike of Trump and the sometimes nutty right-wing voices that have thusfar been the primary targets of this corporate censorship - don't delude yourself into thinking that this is where it stops. It won't just be Alex Jones or even Steven Crowder who are silenced.
No, that "basket of deplorables" is never full. They will always find another group to target. As Obama demonstrated with "Operation Choke Point", they intend to get rid of everything they find offensive, unjust or even just distasteful. Choke Point went after legal businesses and even individuals plying legal trades. Don't think they'll be next on the progressive censor's target list? Check cashing, gun stores, strip clubs, strippers, cam girls.... they are coming for all of you.
If they'll use the federal government via the banking system to target strippers, what makes you think they won't use all of their tools to target gun enthusiasts. And libertarian magazines. And libertarian think tanks. And ..... what is it that you are passionate about? Are you sure it isn't going to pop up on their list at some point? This movement is in its infancy and they already are able to get coordination and cooperation from all of the major internet social media platforms, all of the major ISPs, all of the major hosting services, all of the largest payment processors and patron sites and several of the large banks.
Are you still confident that you can just go elsewhere when their system of "social shunning" is fully implemented? When you 'roll your own', which ISP are you going to post your website on? Which ISP is going to host you, when their totally voluntary, private and non-government movement can cut it off from the internet, deny it banking services, cut it off from Google, Facebook, Twitter and even Netflix traffic? Which bank is going to process your payments when all of the major banks refuse to do business with them if they don't get with the program?
Ken White might be the biggest coward writing today. I don't think there ever has been or ever will be a mob that White won't excuse and eventually kiss up to. They say White has depression issues. Hate to see anyone suffer but when you look at how big of a coward he is and how desperate he is to fit in and promote himself, it is not hard to see why he has those issues. Who wouldn't?
Most people with TDS have anxiety and depression. It's called projection.
+1 Chelsea Handler.
Pee Tapes!
Go fuck yourself. Trump is a partisan shit taking lying pos. If people don't like him it's because he's trash. It ain't TDS. It's just called having a fucking brain and seeing Trump for what he is. He's scum. You're insane if you cant see it. There's no use arguing with you.
Projection
Thank you for proving my point
Why don't you stop fucking small children before you start telling other people to go fuck themselves shreek.
Go get a more creative sock puppet you pervert.
" Trump is a partisan shit taking lying pos."
But that can't be why you hate him because every politician is that.
TDS is when someone says you can't call the facilities on the border anything but "concentration camps" and claiming anyone who does use a different is playing semantics. It's is them playing the semantics game because they want to use only a term that makes people think of Nazi Germany. They want to gaslight America into thinking Trump is the next Hitler. They can't even be honest about the major differences and understand why they are wrong. They can't even bring themselves to admit the truth that the border situation was a problem in 2014 and Obama was putting kids in cages too. It's been happening since at least 2014 yet, they didn't complain about it with this vigor until the Mueller report didn't give them the outcome they wanted.
They also tried gaslighting American into believing Trump was going to have a communist style military parade on the 4th of July. There wasn't one.
TDS isn't about hating Trump, it's about making outlandish claims every time Trump makes a tweet.
"There’s no use arguing with you."
Then shut the fuck up already Shreek.
When did the tactic of someone stating the opinion band then telling everyone else they don't want to argue or hear counterarguments become acceptable? I've seen several proggies using it over the past couple of years.
Ken White might be the biggest coward writing today.
Because he called you a lunatic?
Look Crusty, I am not giving you my phone number. I don't care how many cri de coeurs about your love for me you have.
Creative as usual, Moral Authority.
It is so nice to be loved even if it is from a deranged internet stalker.
No matter how much you pretend, you aren't that important, ISIS sympathizer.
Important enough to get your attention. Like I said, it is nice to be loved even if it is by a deranged internet stalker. How long before people start telling us we need to get a room?
The case that sparked the discussion was one of an activist/blogger who got cancer and after surgery she eschewed the recommended chemotherapy and pursued a “natural” cure. Of course, it didn’t work. She eventually ran back to her doctors for a course of chemotherapy, but it was too late and she died.
It would be magnificently appropriate if this person used any kind of Apple products, considering that Steve Jobs died for that very same reason.
Thanks for reading my screed. John only made it to the first sentence before he was triggered. Which is appropriate, because I did the same thing with the podcast, posting a response to a months-old debate rather than the current content.
And yeah, Jobs falling for a quack cure when he has essentially infinite resources is pretty sobering.
Of couse, my screed makes no sense out of context here - but my point still stands.
Censoring views you disagree with is bad, m'kay? If you have an (L) next to your name, you really don't compromise on this point, even if some distasteful politician happens to jump on your side (temporarily).
I read the entire thing and Jobs was my first thought. By these idiots' standards, everything new age down to horoscopes should be banned from the public square. Implicit in the whole thing is that they are these enlightened beings who can tell what real science is better than the poor ignorant public and they would never get out of hand or use this as an excuse to ban opinions they don't like. Nope. They are as pure as the driven snow. Regular Vulcans.
Exactly.... even worse, they think that Google, Facebook, et. al. have the knowledge and ability to make those determinations.... for millions upon millions of posts. Every day.
Yeah... no chance that goes wrong....
How long did their "completely non partisan and objective truth commission" take to show their true colors? Actually, hiring Amanda Marcotte or Anita Sarkeesian to be a non-partisan arbiter of Truth is a dead giveaway that you never had any other designs....
I love when someone uses their Google degree to argue with my Master's degree in Animal Science in regards to agriculture, especially animal agriculture. I know the appeal to authority, but that doesn't make my arguments any less true and grounded in research and science.
Of course they love to point out spelling errors, misuse of grammar and typing errors as evidence of my lack of knowledge. Fuck I am an animal scientist not an English major. That's why I have others edit my professional work.
"firing a chief executive after 9 months is often a symptom of much deeper organizational dysfunction."
"It's also a symbol of infanticide."
Fist gets it!
Someone had to.
Even if an impeachment vote were to succeed in the House, it would be dead on arrival in the Republican-controlled Senate.
Maybe the next over-the-line tweet will do it. Surely he'll praise Hitler at some point!
"Some of the Gestapo were, I'm sure, incredibly decent people."
more spread out one is still preferable.
Not sure ore spread out is a good thing. Its what the DoD does with its programs. I could be wrong because a multi billion weapon sys may make it more lucrative making it harder kill.
Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, author of the infamous Kelo v. City of New London decision on eminent domain, has died.
Let history now seize his legacy for the public good.
Nice. And replace it with a safe injection site?
Will it produce more government revenue than his grave?
They can take his last residence, tear it down and make it a refuge for feral cats.
What on earth is a 'high misdemeanor'?
I don’t think Trump has gotten high on anything, at any time, ever.
High Misdemeanor is an archaic term in English Law for a number of positive misprisions, neglects and contempts. A good example of this is treason. The most important example may be that of maladministration in high office.
A misdemeanor committed by or against someone in a position of governmental authority that requires taking an oath, such as a president. Its derived from English common law, and the phrase "high crimes and misdemeanors" is in the constitution as a reason a president can be removed from office
As for what "high crimes and misdemeanors" Trump has actually committed, I can't say
None. All of Green’s charges are not crimes. Being a jerk or even saying idiotic things is not a crime. The President’s only “crime” is beating Hillary and pissing off the establishment by refusing to play by their rules. All of Green’s bluster is nothing more than his attempt to get some media attention. Before Trump he was unknown and irrelevant. He was just one member of the CBC who was viewed as radical like his fellow Houstonian Shelia Jackson-Lee.
Well, just because those idiots haven't figured it out, doesn't mean he hasn't committed multiple offenses...
Heck, they all swore an oath to uphold and defend the constitution. There's no chance that an honest reading of the constitution comports with the current conduct of the US government. So by that standard alone they should all be out on their ears.
Before Trump he was unknown and irrelevant.
This. I have a sneaking suspicion that some people in the Left-o-sphere--particularly in politics and the media--are secretly hoping that Trump wins again in 2020. Their sense of self-importance (heh and their bank account) is dependent upon being able to paint the picture that we're on the brink of the Nazi Handmaid's Tale.
But impeachment isn't a criminal case. It is the process where an official is removed from office. You don't need to have committed a crime like John Pickering who was removed from the bench for drunkenness.
"There are some good reasons one might have for impeaching Trump. That he's made nasty remarks about a few congresswomen doesn't seem to be one of them."
I can think of a slew of reasons not to vote for Trump but not one for impeachment ...
As for what “high crimes and misdemeanors” Trump has actually committed, I can’t say.
Anything the House says and the Senate confirms by vote. Its political in nature not judicial. Hence why the proceeding are in the legislative branch and not the judicial. They could vote him out for excessive flatulence just wouldn't be politically very smart since people don't like their guy getting thrown out of office.
While I think that's true in a practical sense, the founders clearly wanted to limit the conditions in which impeachment was an option. Else why include the phrase.
Anything the House says and the Senate confirms by vote.
This isn't actually true.
This is what was made up to justify what they're doing to Trump.
daily commute to work?
"According to Buzzfeed, Wen's refusal to move the group in a more political direction, and use 'trans-inclusive' language earned her enemies."
This was probably the right move for Planned Parenthood. Only a hateful science-denying bigot would assert that abortion care is an inherently "female" need. When in fact, transmen and non-binary individuals often access abortion care as well.
#StandWithPP
#ILoveScience
I admire your dedication to your craft. 7/10 on this one. I got a good chuckle.

Al Green? The singer?
Take me to the river!
The Articles of Impeachment are a hoot.
Green read aloud his articles of impeachment on the House floor, saying Trump is "unfit to defend the ideals that have made America great" and "unfit to ensure domestic tranquillity" and "promote the general welfare."
As he did in his previous articles of impeachment, Green accused Trump of having "sown seeds of discord among the people of the United States" by inflaming racial tensions and "brought the high office of president of the United States in contempt, ridicule, disgrace and disrepute."
If you didn't know any better, you would think this guy is on Trump's payroll. This totally screws the Democrats in the House. Vote for it and you look like a lunatic to anyone but the converted. Vote against it and the woke mob comes to primary you.
Green accused Trump of having “sown seeds of discord among the people of the United States” by inflaming racial tensions
By that logic, every college campus should be shut down immediately.
That is how I see it, and while the Democrats were doing an excellent job of tearing each other down before Trump got himself back into the middle of it, this may be a longer game of upping the ante with even bigger internecine divides.
Green is a moron.
He's a perfect representative of his district, then.
I haven't stopped giggling uncontrollably at this since I heard about it last night.
MAJOR RUSSIA UPDATE!!!!
NEW: Sen. Kamala Harris claims her campaign is being targeted by Russia bots
In 2016 Russia hacked our election — an attack on the very foundation of our democracy, which must be understood in the context of other atrocities like Pearl Harbor and 9 / 11. Patriotic Americans must demand nothing like that ever happens again.
#LibertariansForGettingToughWithRussia
Russia did not “hack” our election. They attempted to use a disinformation campaign to influence the outcome as they have in every Presidential election since the 1950s. The difference is this time they used Facebook. The media and Democrats never believed the President could win so when he did they manufactured an excuse for voters rejecting their flawed candidate and insane policies because they live in denial. No rational person actually believes this BS.
Looks like the Russians also exposed shady practices within the Democratic Party leadership.
Such an expose used to be considered an act of excellent journalism, possibly resulting in an invitation to an awards dinner. But I guess that’s old school.
Unless she wins, of course. Then it will have been a perfectly legitimate election and the people have spoken, etc.
Well, Gabbard did indirectly criticize her. What more evidence do you need?
'Trans-inclusive' language.
I am sooooo happy I'm not in the traditional work spaces these days.
Holy shit it must be frighteningly retarded out there.
Well I live in flyover country with fellow deplorables so really can't say. I suppose if one lived in SF or NYC it would be more of a thing.

Honestly, shit like this makes me think maybe ISIS has a point. As much fun as it is to call people like that barbarians, when I see things like this it gets harder and harder to say we are any better.
Well, the conservatism of Islam and Asian cultures - as well as the Mediterranean where PC culture is mooted for the most part- probably do think this is insane madness.
I don't blame them.
We're enabling the mentally ill in some cases and this lacks compassion if you ask me.
It is cruel even to the people it is supposed to help.
And it attempts to resolve a scientific debate by brute force.

Don't you dare disparage Python!
They have some real gems amid the silliness. In addition to the People's Front of Judea bit above, which is brilliant and amazingly prescient, for me they actually managed to transform history from a bunch of "wisdom received from on high" into real people dealing with real events.
The "Sermon on the Mount" from "Life of Brian" took an unreal scene from a time that never existed and transformed it into a historical context. The two guys discussing Jesus' speech on the way out was a revelation: "What Jesus clearly fails to understand...."
They are a bit like the Simpsons, very good in small doses. Other than The Holy Grail, I don't think I have ever been able to watch one of their movies clear through in one sitting. They start to grate after a while as brilliant as the can be.
How can you possibly list their great scenes without mentioning "strange women lying in ponds handing out swords is not a proper basis for a form of government". That is one of my favorite movie lines ever.
That line when I first heard it made me howl.
The movies can be funny, the sketches are most certainly not funny.
Life really has become a Monty Python sketch.
Overrated garbage?
Them's fighting words, sah!
My second shall be in touch with you shortly to make the proper arrangements.

The sketches aren't funny, Zeb.
that's not even funny in the way it would be if it was funny.
It's not funny, it's true.

Ooh, look at Mr. Provocateur over there!
I suppose you're more of a Benny Hill guy?
OH!
Can we make some BlackAdder references now?
Only if you have a cunning plan.

Benny Hill is far more amusing than the Python sketches.
I have to disagree with you John, Trump has stripped PP's budget to the bone and now they are forced to do whatever they can to get more funding....including performing abortions on the mentally ill to get rid of their imaginary fetuses. Have some compassion! Do you want the trans women to mutilate themselves rather than have a medical professional do it!? And the fake abortion would be pretty rough too!
I read somewhere that the British NHS is now giving limited GYN appointments to men who claim to be women and denying them to women who claim to be men. The whole thing is insane.
I need to see that for myself to believe it. But I wouldn't be that surprised.
Let's say for the sake of argument that gender is all psychological/social and isn't the same as biological sex. People still have the bodies they have. It's like they think that since the law says trans-women should be treated as women that that somehow changes the physical reality.
Almost a bit cargo-cultish too. If you just go through the motions of being a woman then that will make you actually a woman.
She committed the sin of refusing to publicly profess that a subjective characteristic is more defining than an objective characteristic. That is, the potential capability to be pregnant is a defining characteristic of human females. Instead of, if one thinks they are a male, having female biology is unimporttant.
Their belief in this is becoming pseudo-religious, making heretics and infidels second class citizens.
We're going to need to give up on the whole sex/gender thing if this goes much further and just start classifying based on whether a person has a penis or a vagina. Fine, you are whatever you say you are. That doesn't change what's in your pants (unless you have it surgically altered).

Most surprising thing in the links?
Chris Pratt is known for his role in "Parks and Rec", rather than his starring turn in the Marvel Universe "Guardians of the Galaxy" pictures. I mean, sure, at the peak 6 million people watched an episode of Parks and Rec. So it is a pretty big deal. I mean, yeah, it was more like 3 million over the course of the series.... but still.
But since the "Guardians" movies have pulled in a couple of billion dollars worldwide, and then you have the Avengers crossovers.... I figured those roles might have garnered some notoriety. Then there's the Jurasic Park sequels... and the Lego Movie...
I guess the old adage is true... Once a TV actor, always a TV actor.
It is more that journalists live in a bubble and think that because something is a big deal to them and people like them it is a big deal to everyone else. Parks and Rec had a very narrow audience of mostly urban under 40 white people, which describes most journalists. So, it got hyped a lot more than its ratings really justified. A show like Tim Allen's Last Man Standing averaged seven million viewers and episode, significantly more than Parks and Rec ever did. But it was watched by unfashionable people and thus didn't matter.
Yeah, you figured out why I was tweaking their nose.
Guardians of the Galaxy is a very big deal whatever you think of the movie. Parks and Rec, I don't even see it in reruns. Not that it was a bad show, but you can tell how much of an impact a show or movie makes by how often it gets run on cable. If you never see it in reruns, few people really cared about it.
Think about it, I am not sure there is a weekend that goes by that either Harry Potter, LOTR or the Hobbit isn't on one channel or another. There is a reason why those are on and most of the movies hyped by critics are forgotten the week after they are released.
The problem Chris Pratt has with recognition as Star-Lord is that Star-Lord is basically the same character as Iron Man and Deadpool.
They're all playing the wise-cracking hipster who's persistently making pop culture references. The situations, backstories, and settings may differ, but the three characters area all the same.
I give you people gold.
I think it's a bit tough to argue that Chris Pratt struggles with recognition when he's had parts in billion-dollar box office films, and the paps are constantly taking pictures of him and his new wife.
The question I was responding to was the one about why he's more known as the guy from Parks and Rec rather than as the guy from Guardians of the Galaxy.
People can easily differentiate his character on Parks and Rec from other people in the same series. He isn't playing the same guy as other guys in the series.
The first Guardians of the Galaxy flick was probably the second best Marvel flick I've seen--with its only competition for the number one spot being the original Avengers.
That being said, Star-Lord's character is is the same as other prominent characters in the Marvel universe--so he has problems standing out against that backdrop. When people think of Guardians, they probably think of Groot and Rocket Raccoon before they think of Star-Lord. '
Star-Lord is Iron Man. Star-Lord is Deadpool. And making it even worse, Star-Lord is more like Han Solo than the other two. To distinguish himself against that backdrop, his character would need to be distinguishable from the others. It isn't. He's the wise-cracking hipster making references to pop-culture. There's only so much you can do to distinguish yourself in people's minds with that character when there are two other guys doing the same thing in the same franchise.
i agree with this. also Deadpool was stupid. totally smacked of effort.
You just described the entirety of the history of Deadpool, the character, from creation til now.
Or it could be because a good portion of journalist want to virtue signal by implying they watched Parks and Recreations while wanting to avoid they watched something as bourgeoise as Guardians of the Galaxy or Jurassic World.
*avoid admitting.
I see Cyto and John already covered this territory. I apologise for not adding anything new to the conversation. I would disagree with the idea that Guardians of the Galaxy was second best. It was, in my opinion, the best because it didn't take itself seriously.
Deadpool was an attempt at how much crassness they could get away with. I realize this is consistent with the original character but I feel like Kick Ass already covered that territory.

But if we can't get a smaller federal government, a cheaper, more spread out one is still preferable.
Cheaper for the bureaucrats when they find out the cost of living outside the Beltway.
The President is no different than any other citizen. It is not a crime to make a distasteful, or even racist statement. Green has been trying to impeach Trump
for months for every “crime” he can imagine. This is just another one of his fantasies. If speech is a crime then the Constitution is meaningless.
A friend posted on Facebook that it is against Federal labor regulations to tell a Federal employee to “go back to the country you came from.” I’m not sure Congresspersons count as Federal employees, but I will bet you will be hearing the argument/meme going around that Trump violated this particular regulation.
I'm sure the person cited that particular reg.
I think they may have cited it, actually, but the point was it was wishful thinking that the regulation applied to this situation.
You don't need a crime to impeach the president. Just the votes. "Misdemeanors" doesn't mean the same thing it does in statutory law.
As terrible as the Drumpf Era has been, one of the few positive things is the consistently excellent journalism on display.
Reached out this morning to Amazon, Apple, Walmart, Target, Nike, Under Armour, Patagonia and Levi for thoughts on Trump's racist comments about four minority congresswomen. Target declined to comment. No response from the others so far.
It's absolutely essential that major corporations go on the record denouncing Drumpf's vile racism.
Ah, his bio says he is a CNN business reporter, which explains a little why he did this. A little.
His bio also drops a couple of big hints that he really wants to be a sports reporter covering basketball.
Usually the sports reporters are trying desperately to become political commentators.
I guess business reporting is yet another rung down on the ladder of reporterly self-importance.
Any reporting from CNN is the bottom rung of any ladder.
I'm sure those companies are just dying to get involved in some stupid political fight.
The White House is projecting a $1 trillion budget deficit for 2019.
It sounds like the American taxpayer is getting more in services from the federal government than tax revenue we are sending to it. This imbalance can be corrected with a tariff.

“Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came?”
----Donald Trump
When Trump started invoking "America First", it was generally in the same context. Obama didn't join in the Paris Agreement because it was in the best interests of the United States--but because it was in the best interests of poor countries elsewhere. Obama didn't move to bring refugees here from Manus Island because it was in the best interests of the United States--but because it was in the best interests of refugees. On and on and on and on . . .
Obama really did believe that caring about the interests of the United States over those of people in other countries was both racist and wrong. This isn't uncommon among progressives. If the Four Horsewomen of the Nut-pocalypse care more about the problems of people in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, or Somalia than they do about the people of Chicago, Michigan, or New York, then maybe they should resign their seats and run for office in some country they really care about.
I responded the same way to Bush Jr., John McCain, and the neocons. If you want to run U.S. policy for the benefit of Iraq or Syria, go run for office in Iraq or Syria. I'm only interested in those countries insofar as dealing with them benefits the United States.
I remember when Prop 187 was being debated. The local high school emptied, and there was this huge parade of protesters walking down the middle of Hawthorne Blvd. past the hospital where I worked. They were marching under hundreds of Mexican flags--not a single American flag in sight.
There was this guy on the sidewalk who started yelling, "Go back to Mexico!" A guy I worked with asked one of adults walking past why there weren't any American flags. He got the finger. Every times I saw a protest against Prop 187 that year, it was the same. I don't remember ever seeing an American flag. The protesters seemed to think that by showing the voters that they loved Mexico and were indifferent or hostile the USA, that this would somehow make people vote against deporting them back to Mexico. It didn't work.
Prop 187 passed with flying colors.
Trump was elected the same way. Trump will be reelected the same way if progressives keep doing the same thing. I don't think politicians who care more about other countries than they do the USA should be kicked out of the country, but I think it's highly unlikely that Trump will be kicked out of office by the Democrats if they keep taking the bait. Progressives are so stupid, they'll attack Betsy Ross on the Fourth of July because they think it's popular! I have a hard time imagining Trump losing in this environment.
I was thinking along similar lines when I heard about the Mexican flag stunt at one ICE building and the one-loony attack on the other (BTW why just him? Where were his heroic Panty-fa comrades? Did they stay home because Mom was making cocoa her special way?). I wonder, can they really think these acts will sway voters who voted for Trump in 2016? Seems to me it would be more likely to piss them off.
I get that somebody attempting a revolution will engage in provocative acts, but the idea is supposed to be that it will trick the government into overreacting and stomping on everybody's rights, so that the masses will get angry with the government. Piss-ant stunts like these aren't going to cut it.
"Panty-Fa"
Heh.
White, middle class, progressives are largely about self-flagellation. They hate themselves, subconsciously or otherwise, for being racist, homophobic, xenophobic, etc., and they expect you to hate yourself, too. That's why they spent so much of 2016 spewing hate at the white, blue collar, middle class they needed to win the Midwest, and that's why they lost. They're genuinely surprised that the rest of us don't hate ourselves as much they do.
This is why people used to go on pilgrimages. This is why people used to fast. How can't join the righteous if you haven't done penance, which is why doing penance is their sign of righteousness. This is how they used to get Moonies to waste their lives at the airport begging passengers for money. This is how the progressives get people to vote for them. It's all about hating yourself so much that you want to vote for progressive priests who are much holier and therefore closer to godliness than you are.
Don't you even propaganda of the deed, bro?

Bitcoin has fallen by about 25% over the last week as Facebook's future with Libra has dimmed.
I maintain that Libra is more of a money market fund that uses blockchain technology rather than a cryptocurrency, and regulating Libra as a money market fund shouldn't have any bearing on the regulation of cryptocurrency at all--if the politicians can be made to focus on the facts rather than their hatred of Facebook in an election year. Other than that, defending Libra as if it were a cryptocurrency is likely to be counterproductive if we want to keep cryptocrurrency free of regulation. Facebook becoming the test case for cryptocurrency regulation might be the worst case scenario from an adoption standpoint.
If we want to fight against regulation and facilitate legitimate cryptocurrency adoption, we might speak out against regulations that make it hard for American banks to offer anonymous debit cards that can be loaded with anonymous currencies like Monero. A lot of that has to do with increasingly outdated regulations meant to make life hard for marijuana traffickers to send their money back to Central America.
Governments will never allow crypto currencies to be anything more than a niche because the possibilities for tax evasion are just too great. If you want them to have a chance, get rid of the income tax and give the government less of a reason to stomp on them.
It's the same as cash that way. And people are using it. Over time, especially when inflation shows up again, people will continue to adopt it over the government's objections. Like the end of the drug war against marijuana, the government may try to stop people from using it but can't.
Meanwhile, we're getting some really big players behind certain platforms like Etherium. The cryptocurrencies that are less anonymous than cash may see wider adoption than something like Monero, but as the other platforms gain more utility, the pressure to allow them will grow stronger.
Incidentally, the Brave Rewards program I keep talking about uses Etherium to track how much I get for the ads I see and pays me in a cryptocurrency through a wallet that's integrated into the browser. This program has only been up for a couple of months now, but content providers like The New York Times and the Washington Post are already accepting the cryptocurrency. As that program continues to expand, and more people give money to content providers that way, it will create even more pressure for the government to facilitate cryptocurrency.
This shit is getting more and more legitimate all the time.
Large sums of cash are easier to trace. It is more like bartering.
"government to facilitate cryptocurrency. "
luckily the government doesn't have to "facilitate" cryptocurrency. It's decentralized, it's an algorithm, it's global. There's no stopping it.
Go mine some Monero and put it an anonymous Visa debit card and then go buy something with it. If you can't do that without paying through the nose for this exchange fee and that transfer fee, not to mention not being able to put it on an anonymous Visa debit card, it isn't because no one's ever thought of trying to offer those services. It's because the government has effectively made it impossible to move money around that way, especially in the wake of the war on drugs and the war on terror.
"if the politicians can be made to focus on the facts rather than their hatred of Facebook "
Good luck with that. Actually you could drop everything after "facts" above and it applies to everything they do.
Facebook is that rare bird this election cycle, something that voters in both parties hate even more than politicians.
If you're a centrist Democrat in a swing district, you'll enrage half your constituents if you come out in favor of Nike dissing Betsy Ross or NFL players dissing the flag. If you're a centrist Republican in a swing district, a nice slice of your voters will hate you if you come out in favor of Trump dissing "the Four Retards" or whatever he tweets next week.
Both the centrist Democrat and the centrist Republican can come out big against Zuckerpuke and Facebook--because hating Facebook isn't about alienate voters in either party.
If you're in a swing district, half the battle is getting people on the other side not to hate your guts, and if you hate Facebook, the centrist voters in your opponent's party will be thinking, "Well, he may not be perfect, but if he hates Facebook, then he can't be all bad". That's in addition to the benefit of making it seem like you're better than something else people hate by hating something they hate more than they hate you.
Since the site isn't allowing me to create a post with links, I'll just refer everyone to the event and you can pull it up on the Daily Fail:
"Disneyland visitors shocked to find the park is a 'ghost town' - despite the opening of $1BN Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge - with new crowd control measures blocking annual passes all summer and widening walkways working a little TOO well"
Those annual passes cost between $600-1400 a year. Imagine shelling out all that money with the understanding that it will provide you with access beyond what the average tourist is entitled to, only to have The Mouse tell you, "Sorry, BLOCKED."
So they sold people yearly passes only to later tell them "sorry these don't work for the summer months"? WTF?
Yeah, can't imagine why the place became a ghost town. If I'm these folks, I'd be demanding my money back.
You can't have more than one link is what I've found.
I only had the one. Must be the squirrels are extra-hungry.
Being able to go into the park when you want is the whole point of an annual pass. Maybe we have reached peak theme park, where the major companies can no longer do whatever they want to their customers and the customers will take it
the Mouse says you're closed. i say you're open.
At least someone has enough awareness of the overall political situation beyond "ORANGE MAN BAD". From Reuters:
This time, while Democrats and some independents may see clear signs of racial intolerance woven throughout Trump’s tweets, Republicans are hearing a different message, said Vincent Hutchings, a political science and African-American studies professor at the University of Michigan.
“To Republicans, Trump is simply saying: ‘Hey, if you don’t like America, you can leave,” Hutchings said. “That is not at all controversial. If you already support Trump, then it’s very easy to interpret his comments that way.”
By criticizing liberal members of the House, Trump is “doing exactly what Republicans want him to do,” Hutchings said. “He’s taking on groups that they oppose.”

To be fair, I'd take Grand Junction over the hyper-exceptional progressive insane asylum the Boulder-Denver-Aurora Axis of Retards has become.
It's a win for Trump either way.
But I'm sure that Amash's "principled libertarianism" will lead him to conclude that anyone saying unkind things to young, pretty socialist women deserves to be punished in the harshest possible way!
urging them to "go back" to their home countries.
Wow, ENB, bad form! You and the rest of the Reason editors must really love Trump to make so many people who wouldn't otherwise pay a bit of attention defend these tweets. What he tweeted was:
"go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done."
The statement speaks for itself, unless the reader is completely prejudiced against Trump. He didn't tell them to "go back", unless you take those two words completely out of context. He told them to "go back and help fix... then come back", which is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. It is the difference between "get out" and "get some perspective".
It is no different than telling Bernie if he likes socialism so much he should have stayed in the USSR after his honeymoon. Is that racist? No, it is not.
I normally don't pay a bit of attention to what Trump tweets, but when the media lies about what he tweets, I have to analyze it to understand what they are trying to obfuscate. The more I analyze what he says, the more I find I have to agree with the guy.
Anyone who pisses off socialists as much as he does is doing something right. He is going to be re-elected.
> go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came
Cluestick: Three of the four were born in ... wait for it ... The United States of America!
Cluestick:
Omar: "I'm a Somali-American, I'm proud of my ancestral home of Somalia, and I think America is racist, sexist, and fascist."
Trump: "Why don't you go back to Somalia for a while, actually experience life there, and then come back."
And one of them is from Chicago, the brokenest most crime infested large city in the US, what is your fucking point?
I really can't tell whether the Reason writers are simply so gullible that the eat up the Democratic propaganda, or whether they are actively participating in it.
YES.

Because trans-women without uteruses have the right to an abortion too!!! For great justice!
Or trans-men with uteruses, more likely.
If you are pregnant, then you are doing being-a-man wrong.
Regarding impeachment....enough already. Hold the vote.
Personally, I don't see why the bluff is called. What we are doing now is cutting the puppy's tail off an inch at a time. Were I an 'R' (I am not), I would simply vote to bring the articles of impeachment to the floor and force a vote. Get it over with.
Voters assume, foolish as that may be, that if you vote for articles of impeachment, you actually want to see the president convicted. So that would be a bad political strategy.
JW....Two different thing.
One, a procedural vote to force bringing the articles of impeachment to the floor. I favor this, because it is time to call the bluff.
Two, the vote on each article of impeachment. I favor this, because it is time to call the bluff.
The POTUS will not be removed from office.
I look forward to President Pence.
Diane....won't happen, because the Senate will not remove POTUS Trump. Frankly, we should just call the Squad's Bluff and get it over with. Just do it.
If the House impeaches, the 2020 election is over. POTUS Trump will easily win, and I suspect a lot of the House will turn over.
Now that we're over halfway through the term, Pence legally wouldn't lose any eligibility for terms of his own by finishing out Trump's.
You're not getting it. You may think that's a clever strategy, but voters will punish any representative who adopts it, no matter what their intent may have been.
"anti-Israel, anti-USA, pro-terrorist" and urging them to "go back" to their home countries. (All but Omar were born in America.)
I thought calling people things in beltway politics was the hours of 5am to 11pm.
UPDATE: Two sources told us that Wen also refused to use “trans-inclusive” language, for example saying “people” instead of “women,” telling staff that she believed talking about transgender issues would “isolate people in the Midwest.”
Huh?!! It isolates people everywhere, sunshine.
She literally didn't think it would play in Peoria.
To be fair, when your planned parenthood exec starts worrying about flyover country, you know she's not going to last long.
I don't understand why Trump criticizing four women-of-color is 100% racist and 0% sexist (as far as I can tell). It's almost as if a cynical narrative is being pushed for purely political purposes rather than that these caring and compassionate noble warriors actually give a shit about the people they so loudly proclaim to be defending.
"the squad" does not require perpetuation.
From what I've read, Dr. Wen was the first actual physician to hear PP in half a century.
She's a former public-health boss in Baltimore who sued Trump for not spending enough on health or whatever.
So she goes to PP thinking it's a health-care organization and needs to be cleaned up to be more professional and less political.
She got her comeuppance for her naivete.
D.A. Files 64 Charges in Bel-Air Weapons Stockpile Case
Don't ever let Lefties get away with saying that "nobody is coming for your guns".
This is how anti-Americans pieces of shit want to come for your guns. When they stumble accidently upon a large amount of weapons and ammo, they want to seize the Arms and charge you with violating no constitutional law.
All gun control is unconstitutional.
Its especially funny how shocked the Lefties were how big the stockpile of Arms was. There are many more like him in the USA. Some Americans have enough weapons to arm a small town.
Al Green should read the US Constitution and learn what the First Amendment means.
Oh, wait.
That would take too much time and trouble.
Politicians like Green are usually the most ignorant people on earth, except for their constituencies.
I'm not sure that the First amendment protects the president from impeachment for things he says. It seems pretty clear that the Constitution allows a president to be removed from office for being a lousy president even if he hasn't done anything specifically illegal. And I'm not sure how you do that without scrutinizing public statements.
If congress decides that hurling weird insults at congress-people is unbecoming of the office, then they can impeach.
The Constitution set restrictions on when impeachment is allowed.
"shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors."
Of course I expect the definition of treason, bribery, high crimes, misdemeanors, will be taken as serious as the word infringed in the 2nd amendment.
What's the point of having a constitution if you can't insist it means what you want it to mean?
