Chicago Police Deny Claim That Jussie Smollett Identified Attackers as White, Can't Get Their Story Straight About Whether He Heard Them Say 'MAGA'

Empire star Jussie Smollett is in the hospital after two people allegedly assaulted him on the streets of Chicago around 2:00 a.m. last night.

The police are investigating the attack as a hate crime, since the perpetrators reportedly made racist and homophobic slurs. Smollett is a gay black man.

Several media outlets referenced claims that appeared in TMZ's coverage of this matter, most notably that the perpetrators were white and yelled "this is MAGA country," as they attacked Smollett. But a spokesperson for the Chicago police denied having any information about the race and political views of the attackers.*

"According to the victim, the offenders' faces were concealed," a police spokesperson told Reason. "We have no record indicating that [they shouted 'MAGA'], we only have record of them shouting racial and homophobic slurs at him."

Chicago police have also released a statement contradicting claims that Smollett identified his attackers' race and heard them shout "MAGA."

"We have no record of The MAGA Country comment," said the police in a statement. "We have racial and homophobic comments documented."

Until we know more, it would be wise to avoid making any sweeping generalizations about who to blame for this. The best course of action right now is to wish Smollett a speedy recovery and wait for better information.

Updated at 7:30 p.m.: Chicago PD now tell me via email that "in the initial reports there was no mention of MAGA," but "when detectives follow[ed] up with him later in the day, he recalled the offender[s] making those comments and detectives completed a supplemental report." It would appear that earlier statements by the police were erroneous. I have changed the headline of this article to reflect new information, and await a statement from Smollett himself.

  1. Smirk.

    1. Sweet shades of Tawana Brawley and great Crystal Gail Mangum’s ghost, what an awful thing to happen!

Where’s Sharpton and Jackson? We need them on it stat.

      1. This is Orange Hitler’s Amerikkka for sure.

        1. Not for much longer. The Goober King is polling at roughly 30, Senate Republicans are beginning to exhibit a glimpse of a spine, and better Americans seem positioned to regain control of American government soon enough.

          1. I hope you don’t drive or operate heavy machinery.

          2. Exactly. The walls are closing in on the Drumpf regime. Mueller will kick him out of office by the end of the year.

            1. Serious question: How long have you been saying this? How long have you been assuring yourself that the walls are closing in on Donald Trump, and his expulsion from office is imminent? Be honest.

              1. I doubt President Trump will leave office early unless he quits.

I also strongly doubt there are enough poorly educated, bigoted clingers in America to position Pres. Trump to pull off another multi-cushion bank shot at the Electoral College.

“I doubt President Trump will leave office early unless he quits.”
Regardless of your normal brain-dead posts, at least you got this right. WIH would a sitting POTUS leave office? That lying POS Obo should have and didn’t, so why would Trump?

“I also strongly doubt there are enough poorly educated, bigoted clingers in America to position Pres. Trump to pull off another multi-cushion bank shot at the Electoral College.”
Given that you’re a lying lefty asshole loser, I’m sure you’re still wondering why that hag lost. So any predictions from a fucking ignoramus like you can be properly ignored.
                  Fuck off, asshole.

                  1. Thank you Sevo.

                2. You should buy a gun and shoot yourself in the face.

                3. I wouldn’t bet on that. I did not vote for Trump however I would now.

I was worried he would work with the Democrats that are actually true Socialist on things like Medicare for all, I am not saying all but most Democrat have gone fully leftist. The TDS from Democrats ensures nothing like that would ever pass. Personally I like a divided federal government were nothing can pass.

I especially would like to see Trump get rid of more regulations and put in more judges who use the Constitution to limit government.

You are on a Libertarian site so I presume you agree with their philosophy, every president does garbage things however when look at through that lens what Trump has done is better than every president in my lifetime and that includes Reagan. Pull you Trump Derangement Syndrome out of you hole and see what he does rather than says.

                4. Have you looked at his opposition? I wouldn’t count him out just yet.

              2. OBL is a parody account–suckered me a few times too before I caught on.

              3. Start working at home with Google! It’s by-far the best job I’ve had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this – 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go to tech tab for work detail.
                +_+_+_+_+_+_+_+_+……………… http://www.just4work.com

              4. You are asking serious questions to a once-brilliant parody troll account

            2. Is it really that much fun to be a troll? I though of trying it on liberal websites, but of course they won’t let people post.

          3. Are these the same polls that showed Hillary winning by a landslide?

        2. Trump has nothing to do with this attack. Ironic that his son in law is Jewish yet he is somehow the head of the KKK?
Tell me did you hear about the two Jewish men in Brooklyn NY assaulted by three black men. Doubt it since the MSM can’t report on hate crimes by POC since it doesn’t fit the narrative of MAGA = racism.
Ironic this story in Chicago has gone no where aside that a week later Smollett is appearing to have embellished his assault since police have found no actual security tape of when he was practically lynched!
The Jews in Brooklyn attacked by black guys was indeed real and no coverage whatsoever once blacks were arrested for these hate crimes. Yes these are hate crimes since both Jews were wearing their traditional garb when they were pummeled in the street yet neither victim had their wallets stolen.

      2. You mean Shaun King and Quanell X.

  2. That Autostraddle piece has one of the creepiest comment sections I’ve ever seen. And people still deny that this is a cult?

    1. I just saw that too.

Thank you for writing this Robbie

      1. Oh the squirrels have hidden all the text between my cutesy hearts because “greater than” symbol.

Oh well. It’s so awful. Reason writers are a litte closer to my heart today I hope the police catch anyone who dare question The Narrative *hugs*

      2. +1 Robbie

  3. Anyone who is familiar with Chicago’s downtown realizes that this is a very bizarre story that just doesn’t seem plausible. Ignoring the implausibility of some people in ski masks randomly assaulting a minor celebrity and knowing who he is, there is also the curious case of where this is alleged to have occurred (in the Loop or South Shore area). The only visitors who tend to stay in that area are business people because of its proximity to the financial district and City Hall. And then there is the curious question of why he would go to Northwestern for medical treatment rather than U of Chicago (which is much closer). Such a bizarre tale.

    1. Recklessly speculate please.

      1. Recklessly speculate? Sure: “… the perpetrators were white and yelled “this is MAGA country,” as they attacked Smollett. “

        1. White people go around saying MAGA all the
time. It’s like a secret handshake. It’s how they get all their free stuff.

          1. ….and carry ropes and “unknown chemical substances” at 2am, because you never know when you may run into a minor celebreity

            1. And we also know that Chicago is the center of all things MAGA. Hasn’t had a single Democrat vote — let alone run for office — for 1000 years or so, if my memory serves correctly!

      2. Ignoring the implausibility of some people in ski masks randomly assaulting a minor celebrity and knowing who he is…

If you don’t ignore the implausibility of racist, gay-bashing Trump supporters knowing who the hell the guy even is, and aside from the implausibility of said cartoon-character villains wandering the streets of Chicago at 2 in the morning carrying a rope and a bottle of bleach, I’m gonna guess surveillance video is going to turn up showing the guy exiting the restaurant and walking off down the street and nothing else happened. But don’t let the fact that this one incident is a hoax dissuade you of the greater truth that, in Trump’s Amerikkka, shit exactly like this happens literally every single day, all day long.

        1. >>>said cartoon-character villains wandering the streets of Chicago at 2 in the morning carrying a rope and a bottle of bleach

          “Adventures in Babysitting” was real.

        2. “in Trump’s Amerikkka, shit exactly like this happens literally every single day, all day long.”

Best satirical comment I’ve seen yet today.

      3. You win: dumbest internet comment of the year so far. And that’s saying something.

    2. in the Loop or South Shore area

Where do you think the South Shore area is?

      1. ^ Not familiar with Chicago

        1. I seriously can’t wait for you to not apologize for being a complete lying idiot asshole.

          1. Look at a map. You sound ridiculous

            1. You think South Shore is in the Loop (I don’t even know what that means) and now your angry with me for telling you you’re wrong? This is what I get for being nice

              1. So now you’re just going to lie about who said what. I made fun of you for thinking they were in the same place, and now you’re claiming that was me. When did you become an even bigger shithead than Tulpa?

                1. How am I lying? How can I even lie- it’s right there written in front of us.

                2. I’m never going to fuck you Cathy.

                  1. “I’m never going to fuck you Cathy.”

Poor Cathy, always a bridesmaid, never a bride.

              2. Just Say’n:1.29.19 @ 3:11PM “… there is also the curious case of where this is alleged to have occurred (in the Loop or South Shore area).”

Cathy L:1.29.19 @ 3:50PM ” in the Loop or South Shore area Where do you think the South Shore area is?”

      2. Now I know more about Chicago than I’ll ever need to use.

Chicago Loop community is nearest Near North Side and Near South Side communities.
Chicago Loop is on East Jackson Drive; go due east on Jackson you intersect South Lake Shore Drive.
Take South Lake Shore Drive south about 9 miles to South Shore community.
Then there’s South Loop 0.72 miles about a 6 minute drive southwest of Chicago Loop.
But the reports say approx. 2 a.m. Tue 29 Jan 2019, 300 block, E. North Water Street.
That’s about a mile north of Chicago Loop on the North Bank of the Chicago River.

    3. the curious question of why he would go to Northwestern for medical treatment rather than U of Chicago (which is much closer)

Oh my god dude please stop embarrassing yourself

This allegedly happened downtown and Northwestern is right up the street

      1. ^ Not at all familiar with Chicago

        1. Cathy contends that South Shore is the Loop in one comment and then says Northwestern is right up the street. You should get out of San Francisco some time Reiseniwitz

          1. You are the one who said “in the Loop or South Shore” area as if they were remotely similar or connected. This didn’t happen in South Shore; it happened in the Loop, near the Chicago River, and just north of the river is Northwestern.

Which part of this isn’t true?

            1. Cathy L|1.29.19 @ 3:50PM|#

in the Loop or South Shore area

Where do you think the South Shore area is?

              1. At least you checked Google maps before replying this time

                1. Are you not able to recognize me quoting you? Are you pretending to be that dumb?

                  1. I said “in the Loop or South Shore”. You’re the moron who said “where do you think the South Shore area is?”.

I get it. You have some friends who live in Wicker Park and they took you to Lincoln Park before and now you think you know everything, but at least check Google maps before saying such ridiculous things

            2. “it happened in the Loop, near the Chicago River, and just north of the river is Northwestern.”

First, not all of the Loop is all that close to the Chicago River (could be a ten minute walk or it could be a twenty minute walk). Second, Northwestern is pretty far north of the river. It’s not “just north of the river”. It’s about a twenty minute walk from the river. U of Chicago would be closer to where the assault occurred. And would have been faster to get to by car (not walking, though).

Either way, I guess it doesn’t matter what hospital he went to, it just makes the story sound stranger.

              1. First, not all of the Loop is all that close to the Chicago River (could be a ten minute walk or it could be a twenty minute walk). Second, Northwestern is pretty far north of the river.

Dude. The address where this allegedly happened is available. It’s the 300 block of East Lower Water. That is in MUCH closer to Northwestern than to U of C. Like, not even comparable. Because, as I said, it’s in the Loop, which is near Streeterville. It’s not in South Shore, which is nowhere near the Loop. In other words, the fundamental claim in your post was completely wrong and easily checked before you made it.

                1. I didn’t even know the address. I was assuming that it was in the Loop or South Shore just because those are the only places I could think of with a 24 hour Subway.

Yeah, that would be closer to Northwestern, I guess. But, it’s a toss-up. By car, it might still be closer to go to U of Chicago. But, yeah, the Northwestern hospital part makes more sense now

                  1. Does it say the address in this article and I’m just missing it?

                  2. I didn’t even know the address. I was assuming that it was in the Loop or South Shore just because those are the only places I could think of with a 24 hour Subway.

Uhhhhhh there are 24-hour Subways all over the city.

By car, it might still be closer to go to U of Chicago.

I promise you that it’s not.

Does it say the address in this article and I’m just missing it?

No, but it’s been widely reported and you started off this conversation by acting like you had reason to suspect this part of the story because you knew where this happened.

                    1. I assure you that there are not 24 hour Subways all over the downtown area of the City, particularly not so much north of the River.

I’m sorry if I haven’t been following the story as closely as you have. Here’s hoping another narrative doesn’t collapse to your disappointment.

                    2. Dude.

                      There are 24-hour Subways at:
                      750 N Wells
                      1958 W Chicago
                      1762 N Clybourn
                      2357 W Fullerton

need I go on? Let me add some more North Side neighborhoods
                      3700 W Addison
                      4771 N Lincoln
                      3601 N Western

                      And some more downtown
                      1212 S Michigan
                      1252 S Halsted
                      630 S Clark

I mean…yeah, another narrative is collapsing. And I am disappointed.

                    3. I don’t know if you realize this, because you’ve made it pretty clear that you’re not at all familiar with Chicago, but those addresses you provided just bolstered my point that “there are not 24 hour Subways all over the downtown area of the City, particularly not so much north of the River.”

Your “Northside neighborhoods” are not downtown. I specifically said north of the river (River North).

                      You are real pissy today.

                    4. Yeah, nice try with the backtracking, but what you actually said was that this alleged incident probably happened in either the Loop or in South Shore, because those are the only places in Chicago with 24-hour Subways. And that’s obviously wrong.

So, thanks for not apologizing for being a raging liar again.

                    5. What I wrote is right above. Why do you think you can lie?

                    6. I feel like I have to vindicate Cathy L. Everything this commenter said is correct. Just Say’n, you are the one who knows nothing about Chicago. First of all, you’re confusing South Loop with South Shore. South Shore starts around 6700 south, which is NOWHERE near downtown where this occurred. Had this occurred in South Shore, then yes UChicago ER is closer. But in no alternate universe would it have been faster to go to UChicago ER than Northwestern’s ER taking into account where this allegedly occurred. UChicago’s ER is SUBSTANTIALLY south of downtown. It is nowhere near downtown. The fact that you think that it is gives you no right to tell someone else they aren’t from Chicago. If anything you seem like you’re from the suburbs.

                    7. Cathy, just stop lying, admit you’re full of shit, and apologize to everyone here.

                    8. Cathy, quit shitposting. You’re just trying to muddy the waters.

                  3. All parts of the Loops are closer to Northwestern’s hospital, which is just off of the Mag Mile. FFS, who doesn’t know chicago? It’s you

            3. > This didn’t happen in South Shore; it happened in the Loop, near the Chicago River, and just north of the river is Northwestern. Which part of this isn’t true?

Given the left’s penchant for perpetrating hate crime hoaxes that seem inclined to involve such farces as “three guys in Trump shirts removed my hijab,” or “two guys shouting “MAGA country” blah…blah…blah,” I’m not about to give them the benefit of the doubt. Whenever the hoax is exposed, they go down the path of, “Sure this one instance didn’t happen, but IT SPEAKS TO A LARGER ISSUE.” Yes, it does speak to the larger issue of the left’s dishonesty, totalitarian impulses, and white hot hatred of anyone who doesn’t think like they do.

Jesus, I hope the left never regains power in this country again.

          2. You should get out of San Francisco some time Reiseniwitz

            Lol!

            Ask her ’bout Alabamy

      2. Cathy, we get it. You’ve never been to Chicago.

      3. Northwestern is in Evanston, you fucking idiot.

        1. Most of the university is in Evanston. The hospital is not.

          You fucking idiot.

          1. Cathy is right about that. Northwestern Memorial is about a 10-minute drive from the location. U. of Chicago Medicine Emergency Room is more than twice that.

            1. Cathy knew the address. It wasn’t noted in the article

            2. As much as I hate to admit it but Cathy is 100% correct

          2. > Most of the university is in Evanston. The hospital is not. You fucking idiot.

We get it. You can out-Google Maps each other. Who gives a putrefied fuck about where this took place? The problem I have is twofold:

            1) The video proves all of nothing. The shadowy figures are about as descript as the fedora-wearing toon in the Neighborhood Watch logo.
            2) As I said before, the left always jumps to conclusions to “prove” their narrative that all Trump supporters are knuckle-dragging racists. When they’re presented with hard evidence to the contrary, they say they were just trying to “raise awareness.” No, they were trying to indict people they hate using “evidence” invented out of whole cloth.

The video of the Catholic school kids is a perfect example of #2 above. The left media couldn’t wait to trash them, so it didn’t bother to watch the whole video. When that hard evidence was thrown in their face, they tried the rotting tactic of, “Yes, this particular case wasn’t true, but Trump supporters somewhere are engaging in racist activity.” I actually saw Tony paraphrase that pile of manure multiple times.

And they wonder why the entire world is turning against them.

        2. Northwestern has two campuses. The hospital and med school are in downtown Chicago.

Get your facts straight before going on an internet rager. You’ll seem less stupid.

        3. You’re not helping, man. This story stinks to high heaven, but you don’t know Chicago.

    4. OK, let me correct the location confusion. Allegedly this incident occurred around McClurg Ct. and North Water street in the Streeterville area of Chicago. If you are confused Google it. Allegedly the victim was going to or coming from a Subway shop which is open24 hours and is located about 500 North McClurg Court. Northwestern memorial hospital is only a few blocks north of this location. therefore , it is logical the victim would seek medical attention there since it is the closest ER.

The Daily Beast notes the CPD denies the mention of “MAGA” references or mention of the race of perpetrators. However, there are still of questions one could ask about this story.

      1. You’re all wrong. It happened in Smollett’s imagination.

        1. Smollett’s Trump’s AmeriKKKA imagination

          1. It’s all my fault. There is no Smollett. Except in MY imagination.

It’s true. I ate a heavy meal way too close to bedtime, amd well, Smollett is the product of an unpleasant dream. And now the fucker is making up stories.

Apologies to all. Especially to Cathy, who felt it necessary to shitposting about the whole imaginary thing.

Next time, I’ll try and imagine more hot chicks with huge boobs instead.

  4. “We have no record indicating that [they shouted ‘MAGA’], we only have record of them shouting racial and homophobic slurs at him.”

    Maybe they shouted ‘FAGGOT’?

    1. When they say racist and homophobic statements I’m guess the Black Hebrew Israelites

      1. The Narrative just ignores them

      2. You guys can’t blame the Black Hebrew Israelites for EVERYTHING.

    2. At least they didn’t shout something truly hurtful and violent like “Learn to Code”

      1. Now that was funny

  5. Even if “MAGA” was not technically said during this attack, the fact remains Drumpf’s election has emboldened extremist hate groups and made this already racist country even more unsafe for black and brown bodies.

    1. OBL, please tell me who is the GOAT?

      Tom Brady or Otto Graham?

      1. Why is it GOAT and not GAT? The “of” isn’t normally represented in an acronym.

        1. Why, indeed. It’s NAACP, not NAFTAOCP.

Why is it WOD and not WD?

          1. Why is it POTUS and not PUS?

      2. I can’t care about football considering how the NFL has treated Colin Kapernick. Plus one of its team names is a racial slur.

Maybe one day the NFL will be replaced by a more intersectional football league that values racial justice. Until then I’m boycotting it.

        1. What about the Legend’s Football League?

        2. Yeah! How could they have a team named “Giants”! Talk about body-shaming!

          1. What about the “Crimson Tide”? Talk about eco-insensitivity!

            1. and misogyny.

        3. Need queer disabled black lesbian dwarfs with body image issues or it’s not intersectional enough!!!

        4. You forgot to mention that one team’s name is homophobic!

          Another team’s name glorifies marauders.

Don’t forget the icky name of another team which canonizes those of a particular religion whose shepherds care only about their canons being polished by their pupils.

          1. Okay the mauraders is either the Buccaneers or the Raiders, and obviously the last one is the Saints, is it the Packers whose name is supposed to be homophobic (and I get that yours is sarcasm, I just couldn’t figure out what team could be considered homophobic).

            1. Maybe the Bears?

I mean there is no team called the “twinks”.

              1. Or the Packers?

              2. Or ‘the owner bottoms’, or ‘the chickenhawks’ (Tony would be a fan of that), oeven ‘the swishbucklers’.

                1. ‘Power bottoms’.

            2. Marauders could be the Patriots as they represent the subjugation of Redskins when they landed on Plymouth Rock with their small pox ships

        5. I’m okay with there the NFL is with racial equity, since POC are so well represented within the ranks. That said, their rosters are abysmally regressive with regard to women and the gender nonconforming. Until I see a genderqueer pansexual otherkin on the roster and on the first string, I’ll be boycotting as well.

        1. How is best better than greatest? The latter supercedes the former.

          1. Best is better than everything. Greatest is greater than everything. Depends on whether you want something that is good or great.

    2. The extremist hate groups like Black Hebrew Israelites, BLM, Planned Parenthood, ADL and the SPLC . You could certainly include the democratic party, right?

As usual, progressives as you call yourself, ignore their own hate and project onto others. Black and brown bodies are under assault by the poor behavior of inner city blacks shooting up black and brown bodies. How many black and brown bodies has planned parenthood made unsafe? Up to the moment of birth in some states. This is another Hollywood created moment, just like Charlottesville. Those creepy Indians stalking those white boys. Total setup. Unfortunately you only see the what you want to believe. It’s the lefts religion. Everybody else is racist except you. Hilarious. You’re so good, so righteous, you’re so proud. So much better than all those other racist whites.

The boys were innocent, the Indians guilty of inappropriate behavior and leftist of lying about it.

You should really do a self audit of how you feel about other people who maybe don’t think like you.
I’m sure you’re not a horrible person, why do you think someone like me is?

      1. It’s a joke account, dude.

    3. Yeah, even if this story is TOTAL BULLSHIT, that doesn’t change the fact that (proceeds to totally change the subject.)

      1. OpenBoardersLiberal-tarian is parody account, and a good one.
He suckered me in the past too.

    4. Oh, give it a rest and stop trying to distort this event into something it was not. Suggest you go back and reread Aesop’s Fable about the boy who cried “wolf”

  6. “it would be wise to avoid making any sweeping generalizations about who to blame for this”

…but I’ll go ahead and say it was the Illuminati, acting in concert with the Lizard People.

    1. You also, forgot about the alliance between the Trilateral Commission, PETA, The Girl Scouts, and the Vatican.

      1. Quite an unholy alliance.

    2. …but I’ll go ahead and say it was the Illuminati, acting in concert with the Lizard People.

Do they make MAGA hats to fit reptilian heads?

      1. For them it’s actually MACGA: “Make Alpha Centauri Great Again.”

  7. This sounds like another one of those situations where we’d better wait for the facts to come in.

I know, that’s not allowed on the intertubz.

  8. Why would Covington Catholic High School even schedule a trip to Chicago so soon after a disastrous trip to DC? And where were the chaperones? That school should probably be closed for good .This incident regardless of the facts or if it even occurred speaks to the core of where we are as a nation with regard to racial tolerance.

    1. Didn’t you hear? The Covington boys were actually on the south side, looking to score some brown sugar.

      1. Except for the one black dude who went to beat up some fags downtown.

    2. The only thing that’s gonna make this right is some good ol’ fashioned Elder-drummin’. Mark my words.

  9. Yeah, those conservative whites are always attacking people in Chicago. They really need to do something about it. It’s getting out of hand.

    1. If you mean the police, then yeah.

  10. I am not speculating on who actually did it. But is it completely beyond the realm of possibility that the guys who did this were in fact, black?

Blacks don’t ever use the N word right? And they NEVER call people faggots.

    1. I’d say it’s entirely within the realm of possibility that it was one particular black man who did this – his name’s Jussie Smollett.

    2. Yeah, I’d say (assuming that the account we’ve heard is accurate at all) it’s at least as likely that they were black too.

  11. I knew this was bullshit the second I heard it. Someone is walking around with a noose just in case they come across a gay black man? Chicago is “MAGA Country”?

    Fucking ridiculous.

    1. +100

Sounds like an uncreative Lefty false flag operation.

Only a gay dude would even know who Jussie Smollett is and “Empire” is not a popular show for Trump supporters.

      1. MAGA fans find the show to be off-color.

        1. Dark comedy?

          1. Black humor?

The Russians have a penchant for it.

  12. It looks like the media has another opportunity to step on their own dicks.

    I can’t wait!

    1. Well the Covington thing just played out into being mostly sort of being swept under the rug but actually The Narrative found new more ridiculous ways of quadrupling down on it’s stupidity by simply ignoring objective truth and the hardcore lunatics will still tell you that the Covington kids were all little Hitlers and chanting “sieg heil” and that is like so scary and terrifying and honestly like that is the United States today.

  13. Waiting for “all the facts to come in” is a form of white privilege. Silence in the face of oppression is violence.

If you’re sitting on the sidelines instead of speaking out against racial injustice, then you’re PART OF THE PROBLEM.

    1. “PART OF THE PROBLEM”

      Good podcast by Dave Smith

      1. Smith, much like Michael Malice, is a racist who belittles struggles faced by black Americans. He has no place calling himself a libertarian.

Folks like Radley Balko actually care about these sorts of issues and recognize that identity politics and libertarianism are perfectly compatible. Unfortunately, people at Reason are less interested in understanding these problems.

        1. Oh, you’re good.

          1. As good as OBL?

            1. OBL has had more time to hone his craft.

            2. OBL sucks ass. What the hell is wrong with you people?

          2. What? I’m not joking. Although I can see how something resembling civility and decency might seem like satire to you people.

            1. You people?
              WTF you mean, “you people”?
Someone’s bout to get a whoopin!

            2. Bra fucking Vo

          3. No, he really isn’t.

    2. “If you’re sitting on the sidelines instead of speaking out against racial injustice”

I’m not your labor force, nor am I here to work for you.

  14. But white teenagers in MAGA hats yelling “This is MAGA Country” while beating a black gay man fits the narrative. So it must be true. Damn the facts, full speed on the narrative!

    Truthyness.

I don’t normally trust the police, but if he did not mention this in the police report but instead reserved the politically tinged stuff for the media, I’m just naturally suspicious.

    1. Chicago cops are pretty corrupt.

They have one of the highest murder rates in the USA. I think they have more important things to do than cater to Lefties trying to false flag some race war.

      1. They know who butters their bread, and it ain’t Red County Voters. This is Chicago.

      2. But it wouldn’t shock me at all if they have a policy nowadays of erring on the side of NOT refuting any alleged hate crime until they absolutely have to, lest they be tarred as racist for doing so. I remember watching a police press conference after it became clear that the Rolling Stone rape story was a hoax–the police referred to “Jackie” throughout as a survivor and bent over backwards at every moment to virtue signal while trying to subtly admit that there was no gang rape and “Jackie” was a delusional liar.

  15. Empire star Jussie Smollett is in the hospital after two people allegedly assaulted him on the streets of Chicago around 2:00 a.m. last night.

Are you kidding me, Robby? You try to correct the story but even TMZ reported this morning that Smollett had already been discharged from Northwestern.

    1. That seems like a minor quibble. Seems like you’re upset about something else other than the fact that Robby was mistaken about Smollett’s release from the hospital. Or maybe TMZ is mistaken, since they incorrectly said that MAGA hatted people assaulted the actor, though the police are disputing that now

      1. It’s the first paragraph of the story, and Robby is trying to fact-check other people’s reporting, and you think that’s a quibble.

        It should be embarrassing.

        1. I know it’s tough for you when Leftist narratives collapse, but try not to be such a jerk about it. Whether or not he’s been released from the hospital changes nothing about the story.

          1. I don’t feel the need to accept low-quality bullshit just because someone is on “my side.”

            1. It’s not “my side”. I think Robby upsets people of all different persuasions, but I’ve come to realize he’s one of the few journalists I trust nowadays.

              1. Every single time you “argue” with Cathy it just looks like you’re fabricating an argument with yourself.

          2. Well, it does matter. There were no actual injuries after this brutal attack. If there were actual injuries, and serious ones, he might have been admitted

        2. What is point Cathy L?

  16. I doubt that white racist even watch hi show or even know who he is let alone be out at 2am on one of the coldest nights. I don’t doubt that he was attacked with both a rope and acid. the acid thing is normally an islamist thing and they do hate gays note several similar attacks across England that said I don’t even think it was islamist. Drug deal gone bad more than likely or his boyfriend beat him up

  17. Several media outlets referenced claims that appeared in TMZ’s coverage of this matter, most notably that the perpetrators were white and yelled “this is MAGA country,” as they attacked Smollett.

If I gauge this on veracity of the last 950 stories in the media and twitter, I’d say there’s near to zero percent chance this happened.

  18. Who has time to wait for facts?

  19. The most important thing to take from this incident is that there’s nothing to learn from it regardless of whether anyone yelled MAGA, racial slurs, or homophobic slurs.

There isn’t anything we should do or shouldn’t do regardless of whether this story is true or false.

    1. Agreed. Single events, particularly in a population of 330 million people, does not give good information to draw from.

    2. Yes, good point. Even if the story is totally true, the only thing it tells us is that there are a couple of violent assholes out there.

  20. OT, but reason might want to keep an eye on this latest Houston police raid and shootout that ended up with four officers hit and two homeowners dead. It is starting to have some similarities to the infamous Kathryn Johnston shooting in Atlanta.

Cliffs: HPD raids a house where allegedly several sales of black tar heroin were made to U/C officers. Door gets kicked in, the homeowner allegedly sets their pit bull on the lead officer, he shoots the pitbull. Homeowner then shoots the officer with a 357. Second homeowner reaches for lead officer’s shotgun, and gets killed by the rest of the stack. Somewhere in that, three other officers get shot, two in the neck. Both homeowners are shot and killed by police.

No black tar heroin found. Cops found guns, some weed, and an unidentified bag of white powder, that is claimed to be either fentanyl or coke. Deceased homeowners are 20 year married couple, in their late 50s, with next to no criminal record in Texas (wife had a bad check charge some time in the past). Neighbors claimed couple had few to no visitors. Oh, and allegedly, the address yelled out on scanner intercepts of the cop’s radio, doesn’t match the address on the warrant.

Anyway, you should keep an eye on this one.

    1. Houston police union and Chief upset that people shot back at police.

The more police that get shot and killed for continuing the unconstitutional War on Drugs, the less will be willing to risk their lives.

I have a large property so you can see anyone coming. Then they get channeled into a kill zone as there is no other way into my home after the shutters are remotely closed shut.

      1. Well, it’s not that people shot back at cops—that happens occasionally when you serve warrants on drug dealers—it’s that it’s looking more and more like the cops raided the wrong fucking house and killed both homeowners.

And probably, a la Waco and the ATF, ended up shooting themselves more than the people they were trying to arrest. I will bet that most of those wounds from the four cops who got shot, are going to be from 5.56, and not the .357 Magnum that the one homeowner is alleged to have used.

        1. .357 is also a fairly common caliber for a police backup gun…

          1. Not in this century. And certainly not for door kickers, who almost never carry wheel guns. Most of those have a carbine or shotgun for primary and then a full size auto for backup.

If the homeowner really did get off a shot then it could have passed through multiple members of the entry team. Especially travelling at shoulder/neck level, where it would have less material/tissue to penetrate.

But ‘friendly fire’ is certainly in the realm of possibilities…

    2. Now the president of the police officer’s union, Joe Gamaldi, is making vague threats against anyone critical of police.

“And for the ones who are out there spreading the rhetoric that police officers are the enemy, well just know we’ve all got your number now and we’re going to be keeping track of all y’all and we’re going to be making sure we’re going to be holding you accountable every time you stir the pot on our police officers,”

First Amendment is incoherent for this bozo.

      1. WOW cop threatening people for questioning, thats bold and he should be fired

      2. Well, if you are trying to mind your own business and sell some drugs, the police are your enemy.

        1. ” spreading the rhetoric”

Zeb- I think that applies to saying nasty things about the police, not selling drugs. It doesn’t matter whether you sell drugs or not. This thug wants to harass people for just talking shit.

        2. Minding your own business and selling drugs =/= stirring the pot.

Not selling drugs and telling cops to quit shooting people over a plant = stirring the pot.

Holding you accountable every time you stir the pot = abuse.

    3. They should keep an eye on everything the FBI is doing, but truth is they just really don’t give a shit unless it advances progressivism

    4. Bill Hutchinson, “Woman among 2 suspects shot dead in Houston drug raid that left 5 police officers wounded”, abc News, 29 Jan 2019.

_The lead investigator broke open the front door.
_An officer armed with a shotgun entered the home and was attacked by a pit bull.
_That officer shot and killed the dog.
_Dennis Tuttle charged from the back of the house firing a .357-caliber Magnum revolver hitting the officer in the shoulder.
_The officer fell on the sofa.
_Rhogena Nicholas went towards the officer, reached over him and started making a move for his shotgun.
_Officers opened fire, killed Nicholas, and engaged Tuttle in a firefight.
_As officers retreated with their wounded, Tuttle followed and continued to fire at them. He was shot and killed.

“Unfortunately, some people just don’t have respect for the sanctity of life.”
      — Art Acevedo, Houston Police Chief

“If you’re the ones that are out there spreading the rhetoric that police officers are the enemy, just know we’ve all got your number now, we’re going to be keeping track of all of y’all, and we’re going to make sure that we hold you accountable every time you stir the pot on our police officers.”
      — Joe Grimaldi, President of the Houston Police Officers Union

      1. One guy, a 59 year old disabled vet with a revolver, managed to hit 4 cops on a high-risk warrant service, two of them in the face, before getting incapacitated? When they had rifles, body armor, and surprise? Bullshit. Were they serving the warrant on Jerry Miculek?

I’ll bet you five quatloos the doctors will pull out of those wounded cops, 5.56, 12 gauge, and whatever else HPD and Harris County Sheriffs use, before they pull any 357 from them. Besides the one guy who got hit in the shoulder at the outset, that I believe. As far as claiming she reached for the downed officer’s shotgun, well the only side of the claim we’re ever going to hear is the cops’. No body cameras, you see.

        1. Most of these cops do not expect any serious resistance. That’s the whole idea of ‘overwhelming force,’ they are often more worried about having to handle people who have wet themselves.

Assuming that sequence of events is true it does demonstrate why the best response to a surprise attack or ambush is often to counterattack directly into the threat with everything you’ve got. An aggressor who is not ready to be hit will often be surprised by the turnabout, and can (not necessarily will) be routed.

Think about it for a second, you’ve just shot the dog. That ‘should’ tell people you are deadly serious, but when someone then responds by coming directly at firing a weapon, he’s just made it deadly serious for you and you got a real decision to make about staying in the fight.

Falling back with the intent of getting additional support is a reasonable option.

  21. Until I see evidence to the contrary, I’m convinced he was attacked by a gang consisting of the Nation of Islam, the Church of Scientology, and the Black Israelites. All are notoriously anti-homosexual organizations.

    -jcr

  22. Hate hoax until proven otherwise.

Hispanics are more likely to get beaten up and called spics by Antifans than a gay black man is to get beaten up by a couple of white Trump supporters screaming “MAGA!” in downtown Chicago.

It’s more likely that he hit on someone who freaked out and beat the shit out of him, and he’s claiming a hate crime to cover up his embarrassment that he wasn’t able to defend himself.

  23. There were 16 or so made up incidents like this right after the election. One right here in Central Ohio, almost identical story. All were proven to be false.

    1. Try hundreds.

      Visit fakehatecrimes.org

  24. Sound like bullshit to me, just like all the other fake attacks blamed on racism.
But on the other hand, these fake attacks did make Al Sharpton rich and famous, so they can’t be all bad.

  25. Anyone with a tongue can say MAGA, that doesn’t mean a damned thing.

And after all this time and disruption, do they REALLY expect that the white people are not going to start fighting back against this kind of crap?

    Geezalou.

    1. Which white people? What kind of crap?

  26. “MAGA Country’ is a racial comment, particularly in this context.

The Chicago police are unreliable sources — and often are petty, authoritarian pussies, too, even when not killing black people without cause.

    1. But without the police, how would your ideological kinfolk in Chicago enforce all those progressive laws they keep passing?

      1. Progressives like you enact laws and expect them to be enforced by Care Bears armed only with rainbows.

    2. “”The Chicago police are unreliable sources””

Probably. But are you saying that because they didn’t say what you wanted to hear? Now they are saying Smollett did say he hear the MAGA comment, do you consider the new information unreliable?

    3. You should kill yourself – it would be a cause everyone would get behind.

    4. Says the petty, authoritarian pussy, lol…..

  27. It is -20 out in Chicago. People aren’t just roaming the streets. Something isn’t adding up to me

    1. The people who doubt this guy’s story tend to be the same folks who figure Obama is a Kenyan Muslim, fairy tales are true, a pedophilia ring operated out of a D.C. pizzeria, and Donald Trump is a self-made man. They believe Genesis is a faithful account but this story is a step too far for them.

      Carry on, clingers.

      1. May you encounter the Covington School boys in an alley.

        1. Because you’re looking for someone to smile at him awkwardly? I suspect that already happens a lot.

          1. Ha ha ha ha!

      2. Rev. Arthur L. Kirkland|1.29.19 @ 8:17PM|#
“The people who doubt this guy’s story tend to be the same folks who figure Obama is a Kenyan Muslim,…”

Asshole, you want to try posting once without lying?

        1. Bigoted, half-educated authoritarians should refrain from presuming to correct their betters.

Shouldn’t you be helping Roger Stone prepare for prison, Sevo?

          1. Rev. Arthur L. Kirkland|1.29.19 @ 10:04PM|#
“Bigoted, half-educated authoritarians should refrain from presuming to correct their betters.”
You’re right, bigoted, half-educated piece of shit. I am your better. You should STFU.

“Shouldn’t you be helping Roger Stone prepare for prison, Sevo?
Shouldn’t you be helping the hag, loser asshole?
            Fuck off, asshole,

          2. You should consider killing yourself as soon as possible.

  28. Without sweeping generalizations, how is the rest of media going to be able function?

  29. Sounds like he got mugged!!!!! Was he wearing a Canadien Goose jacket? Look, I’m from Chicago, and I was LITERALLY laughing so hard TEARS came to my eyes when I read the initial reports about this–guys in ski masks with a noose beating up a black guy and yelling “This is MAGA country!” in STREETERVILLE? HAhahahaha!

  30. What assault isn’t a”hate” crime.

They didn’t hate him while they were pummeling his face, but when they called him names, well then things got serious.

    1. Yeah, who cares if they were singing the Barney Song, if they were committing an assault and battery that’s the relevant moral fact – if there was a crime.

  31. I think he probably wishes now he had run his scenario by some of the show writers before putting it out. He included 2 or three items that are just too ridiculous to believe. What is believable is a late night rendezvous that went wrong.

  32. “…Can’t Get Their Story Straight About Whether He Heard Them Say ‘MAGA'”

Let’s simply allow that they did: So what?

    1. He didn’t think to mention that when he first talked to police?

  33. Um, if the suspects were wearing ski masks, how can anyone tell if they’re white? Were they also not wearing gloves?

You cannot strangle a man’s neck with a rope unless you have been pinned down or otherwise incapacitated. The second man could have held him down, I suppose. But an violent crime like this would have caused a lot of ruckus. I would have just ran away screaming for help. Did anyone call 911? No pics of rope burn marks posts on social media yet?

Bleach isn’t an acid, is it? But some tv shows might show it used to dissolve corpses or something. I’m skeptical.

    1. It’s not the injury but the racial implications. If you wanted to look like you were attacked and give it racial overtones without actually getting hurt, you’d use bleach. Bleach is a corrosive and it burns but nothing like acid. I’ve spilled it on my hands full strength and nothing really happened as I walked to the next room where the sink was. My t-shirt that got some on it was eaten through. Putting it on the face where it can get to the more sensitive tissue in the nose, mouth and eyes would be worse but we can assume if he’s out of the hospital already that it didn’t end up there.

  34. Here’s a little more about the incident from the Tribune

“Smollett was hit and an unknown chemical substance was poured on him, according to police. A rope was wrapped around Smollett’s neck before the attackers fled the scene, police said.”

So where’s the rope ? Anyone seen the rope?

    1. One of the reports I saw says the cops have the rope as evidence.

      1. Police having a noose is one of the few ways to turn this from a hoax into an actual crime.

        1. It was given to them when they interviewed Smollett… at his residence

    2. He went to the ER with the rope around his neck

That should be the very first clue this was staged for publicity

  35. Kamala Harris
    ?
    @KamalaHarris
.@JussieSmollett is one of the kindest, most gentle human beings I know. I’m praying for his quick recovery.

This was an attempted modern day lynching. No one should have to fear for their life because of their sexuality or color of their skin. We must confront this hate.

    1. I was intending to post something about the media maybe taking it a little slow on this one, having been so recently burned. But then I decided to hit CNN just to see if I was right. And there was Kamala Harris quoted by CNN, stirring the pot.

She’s not alone, apparently. also from the CNN article:

      Cory Booker
      ?
      @CoryBooker
The vicious attack on actor Jussie Smollett was an attempted modern-day lynching. I’m glad he’s safe.

To those in Congress who don’t feel the urgency to pass our Anti-Lynching bill designating lynching as a federal hate crime? I urge you to pay attention.

      1. So…. you guys have an ax to grind, eh? Trying to capitalize on an opportunity and pass your hate crime bill, huh?

Here’s the link to their coverage:

        1. CNN original headline on “reaction” to this incident:

          9 hr 52 min ago
Hollywood rallies behind Jussie Smollett after hate-fueled attack
A growing list of actors, producers, writers and others in the entertainment industry have shared their reactions to the horrific reported attack on “Empire” star Jussie Smollet.

          1. So, i guess I have to retract my almost-statement about the media maybe learning something. MSNBC covering prominently, if briefly, and without comment.

Funny, so many people I know asked me what I thought of the story I just figured everyone heard “two white guys in MAGA hats with a noose and bleach running around in the middle of the night in Downtown Chicago looking for gay black guys to attack while shouting not only racist and homophobic taunts, but also shouting MAGA” and thought to themselves “Hmmm, could be that there’s a couple of violent idiots out there, but this story seems a little far-fetched”.

I guess for some folks skepticism just doesn’t come easy. Strange that those folks would take jobs in the media as reporters and editors though. You’d think a healthy dose of skepticism would be a prerequisite of the job.

            1. Believe it or not, HuffPo actually had the most sane and reasonable coverage. They use words like “allegedly” and “reportedly”.

They start going a little sideways when they talk about Smollett coming out as gay:

“It was a bigger deal to everyone than it was for me. But at the same time I do understand why it is something to talk about,” Smollett said at the time, adding, “I was ready to talk about it. She told me, ‘You don’t have to.’ I will be forever grateful to Ellen for the kindness she showed me. And that made me want to talk about it.”

Yeah, I don’t really think anyone in 2015 gave two craps about some actor they never heard of being gay. The number one sitcom included a married gay couple at the time. Empire was a big show that year, but did anyone really care if some guy they already assumed was gay turned out to be gay?

They don’t really go off the rails until the very end when they quote some activist

unfortunately, not an isolated incident. There is an alarming epidemic of hate violence in our country that disproportionately targets Black people, LGBTQ people, and religious minorities ? and particularly those living at the intersections of multiple identities.”

              1. In between those two they do add some important information: The FBI is taking over the investigation.

So it appears that the FBI thinks that it is plausible that this guy has a stalker who actually sent him hate mail and hunted him down. If true, that would cover the “what sort of guys walk around in downtown Chicago with MAGA hats, bleach and some rope?” question.

Still, the idea that two idiots could convince each other to make the drive in to the city…..

But 20/20 or 48 hours had a story yesterday about a guy who killed his wife and convinced some guy he knew only from playing X-box Live online to come over to his apartment and pretend to be him while he went to kill his estranged wife. So I suppose anything is possible.

              2. As someone who has been called homophobic I can tell you that speaking the truth, demonstrated by logic and science is considered by many, including the courts, to be hate speech.

Imagine that, in court where you must swear to ” tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth”, telling the truth is a crime.

From first principles, a disorder inhibits or interferes with normal behaviour or establishes systems, Mating is the pairing of opposite sexes to reproduce and is our normal behaviour to raise children in a nuclear family who shares their living genetic history. LGBTQ inhibits and interferes with that behaviour and is logically a disorder, or a choice.

Most faggots I know, weren’t always faggots but insist it isn’t a choice. Then it is a disorder that can afflict you at any time. I want no fucking part of that shit any more than MS. Call me what the fuck you want, I’m not changing my mind.

If it’s a choice, fuck you, we have every right to discriminate against bad choices. In fact it is our responsibility to.

                1. The 1st Amendment protect out American right to hate anyone that we want.

As long as you dont violate their rights by executing violence on that person, unless its self-defense.

                  1. Rob Misek -> the stupid is strong with that one. I can’t tell wtf it is? I though he was a libtard but now I’m not sure he’s not a cousin-fucker. Maybe he’s the world’s first cousin-fucking libtard. hmmmmm

                2. “As someone who has been called homophobic I can tell you that speaking the truth, demonstrated by logic and science is considered by many, including the courts, to be hate speech.”

You’ve proven to be incapable of logic, and now we see you’re a homophobic shit bag on top of it.

                3. You sound like a miserable fucking asshole.

  36. Lest I get the misconception that HuffPo has journalistic standards, the discrete coverage of the Chicago incident was accompanied by this article doubling, tripling, quadrupling down on the Covington Teens are a bunch of racists who were taunting peaceful natives narrative.

    1. Braves/Chiefs/Redskins/Seminoles fans are all LITERALLY HITLER.

Not to mention those Cleveland Indians at their ironically named Progressive Field. I’m gonna miss Hief Wahoo. He was kind of zany and cool.

  37. This smells like a hoax. Time will tell.

  38. This smells like a hoax. Time will tell.

  39. So after police coached him in the hospital whether they were white and said Maga, the victim gurgled in the affirmative. But initially only claimed racist and homophobic insults. When blacks attack blacks, is it racist when they call them n ggah? Maybe blacks aren’t homophobic? Jussie Smollett may have been coached right into the Hate Hoax List.

This message is really strong !
Chicago police have also released a statement contradicting claims that Smollett identified his attackers’ race and heard them shout “MAGA.”
it seems that the police under-control the enemy.

  45. If they were yelling racial slurs they were probably white. The MAGA stuff is just press speculation.

    1. black people yell racist homophobic comments to anybody they feel like therefore not proof of white racism

      1. If they were black and calling him niggah it would have been a friendly and joyful racist greeting.

For white people, the same greeting results in persecution.

        1. You must have missed the Black Hebrew Israelites treatment of the black Covington student

          1. Whatever happened to the advice, “don’t let it bother you.”?

            1. Dunno, shitbag. What ever happened to that advice when someone mentioned they were gay and you responded?

              1. I take great pleasure in enabling you to demonstrate what a dipshit you are.

  46. So, as more information comes in, that’s called “can’t get their stories straight,” because it’s not identical to what they knew when they knew less? That seems like a bit of an ignorant take.

    1. So he tells the police one thing, then tells the media another and then goes back and makes his police story match his media story.

That is literally the dentition of not getting your story straight. There is no new information other than the fact that the can’t find the attack on surveillance video. Which is a pretty bog deal since the area is carpeted with video cameras.

      1. I don’t know what actually happened, but I’m glad to see I wasn’t the only one questioning my reading comprehsion ability after finishing Soave’s original article, and then reading the “update” and the headline.

  47. The most disturbing element in this incident is the evidence of neanderthal technological advancement. The only way illiterate/redneck/hatemongering/fake-news-lovers could have found Smollett in that spot in frigid Chicago at 2 AM is with highly developed gaydar. That’s why we must take this whole thing so seriously.

    1. Well the Chinese govt hacked DARPA and stole the blueprints to the quantum gaydar technology that was supposedly being developed for a DoD off off off book black project which an unnamed source high up in the Air Force told my source at the Pentagon is allegedly referred to in ‘eyes only’ documents ‘Project HAVE GERM’. The Chinese have apparently reverse-engineered this tech and funded a manufacturing concern in Shenzhen that ships it’s products out through Hong Kong, available to the American market via eBay at $16.95 inclusive of shipping. Supposedly this was the intended method of delivery for deployment of HAVE GERM in the first place, and the Chinese got duped into mobilizing the manufacture and distribution of this tech for American interests. It’s all part of Der ?berfuhrer’s Holy Mandate as POTUS from his superiors on the Council of Eternal Shadows, to rid the United States of the Untermenschen dark of complexion and effeminate of comportment.

      1. Nice.

  48. Even if this wildly improbable tale WAS actually true, this Smollett motherfucker openly calls for physical violence against Trump, so he’d technically deserve a good pummeling himself. He wants to live in a country where people express their political differences by brutally kicking the asses of those they disagree with.

    1. Potentially just another duplicitous coward hellbent on deposing Orange Hitler BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY, i.e. lying, aka “speaking Truth to Power”

  49. The police watched long hours of CCTV footage and never saw the alleged assault. They did find two “persons of interest” who happened to be near the area. Which is another way of saying that the cops are reduced to asking nearby pedestrians if they assaulted a man with a rope and bleach.

Maybe they’re acting on late breaking tips, who knows. But with no video evidence, Smollett has some splaing to do.

  50. I really doubt any Trump fan has ever even heard of this guy.

I think the most likely explanation was that he was cruising for gay sex, hit on the wrong person and they got pissed at him.

  51. “We realized that this story wasn’t going to get enough coverage without a Trump reference, so we called the victim and asked him to add MAGA stuff to his statement.”

  52. Jussie’s manager claims he heard the assault happen over the phone and heard “MAGA” comment over the phone.

But police can’t verify the call log because Jussie refused to turn over his phone to the police.

    LMAO!

    1. Both Jussie AND his manager refused to turn over their phones to validate claims.

  53. What does the victim say? Anything direct from him?

    1. His family spoke out today to say that no, he isn’t lying. There was also a photo posted of him in the hospital and it looked like a cut on his face from the brutal attack. His face also looks swollen a little but it could be the type of camera.

  54. I am creating an honest wage from home 2500 Dollars/week , that is wonderful, below a year agone i used to be unemployed during a atrocious economy. I convey God on a daily basis i used to be endowed these directions and currently it’s my duty to pay it forward and share it with everybody, Here is I started…..

  55. Mrs. O’Leary’s cow did it, in the study, with the rope.

  56. I saw this story and it just raised a lot of questions. This guy is in this place at 2am, two random masked men (who happen to have a rope and somehow know Smollets is gay) appear out of no where and torment him with racial and homophobic slurs, assault him (minor injuries) and put a rope around his neck reminiscent of old west lynchings. No witnesses, so far no video. I want to believe someone when they say something happened to him, but we’ve seen too many of these incidents turn out to be staged. Everyone jumps on the bandwagon about racism and white supremacy and uses this as an example of how things are supposedly getting worse.

  57. ANOTHER UPDATE: It looks like the whole incident is coming apart under closer scrutiny. Here’s an NBC story that casts further doubt on the alleged victim’s account of the “attack.”

In addition to both Smollett AND his manager refusing to turn over their cell phones to verify the racist conversation the manager claims he heard during the attack, there is now security camera footage of Smollett returning to his apartment building wearing the noose, but not acting the least perturbed. Meanwhile there is still zero evidence to substantiate the attack — let alone that it was a racist attack.

  58. my favorite part is he wore the rope like a neck tie for at least 42 minutes since that is how long it took for police to arrive and when they did he still was wearing it…

maybe he realized it matched his outfit?
