Jeff Sessions Was a Terrible Attorney General. His Successor Will Do More of the Same.
Maybe Trump should nominate Kim Kardashian West.
!['Na, na, na, na … Na, na, na, na … hey, hey hey …' [flips bird] Jeff Sessions](https://d2eehagpk5cl65.cloudfront.net/img/q60/uploads/assets/mc/2018_11/sessionsbye_856x642.jpg)
If you care about criminal justice issues, Attorney General Jeff Sessions' resignation is cause for celebration regardless of how you feel about President Donald Trump. But let's be real about what's going to come next.
Sessions resigned on Trump's orders, and it most certainly was due to the president's desire to reduce the scope of, or even shut down, Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller's investigation into Russia's role in the 2016 presidential election. Sessions cut ties with that investigation, citing a conflict of interest, and Trump openly hated him for it. He publicly declared he would not have appointed Sessions had he known the man would recuse himself.
But if it weren't for Mueller's investigation, the two men probably would have been best buddies. The president is most certainly going to appoint somebody very similar to take his place, albeit a person more loyal to Trump than to the appearance of an impartial Justice Department.
Matthew Whitaker, Sessions' chief of staff, will currently fill his former boss's shoes. Whitaker is a Trump loyalist with strong Republican and conservative ties. Before joining Trump's DOJ, he wrote an op-ed in CNN arguing that Mueller would be abusing his powers if he delved too far into Trump's family finances, particularly those unrelated to the election.
Whitaker was also seen in September as a potential replacement for Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, when rumors abounded that Rosenstein was about to resign. The New York Times looked into Whitaker's record and found that he holds similar criminal justice positions as Sessions, but without all that Russian baggage and seemingly much more loyalty and a better rapport with Trump. Here's how the Times describes Whitaker's take on criminal justice reform issues:
In meetings in the Oval Office, West Wing officials said, Mr. Whitaker has spoken bluntly and authoritatively about prison overhaul, an issue embraced by Mr. Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner. Mr. Whitaker has told the president that federal prosecutors would oppose some of the measures under discussion, according to a person familiar with the discussions.
Mr. Whitaker also took cues from Mr. Sessions, who has long understood where the department's mission could align with Mr. Trump's priorities, like on immigration and violent crime, according to a current Justice Department official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss internal deliberations.
"He has the trust and confidence of any number of people within the Justice Department and within the law enforcement community, but also the White House," Mr. Leo said of Mr. Whitaker.
It's not clear from the Times' reporting whether Whitaker supports Kushner's efforts, but worries about rank-and-file pushback; he could be messenger or representative. Odds are he's the latter, and it's clear he's on board with at least some of the same law-and-order policies Sessions resurrected when he undid the Obama DOJ's Smart on Crime initiative.
We'll have to wait to see who Trump submits as Sessions' permanent replacement. Maybe we should send Kim Kardashian West back up to the White House with a list of names for Trump to consider.

Maybe Trump should nominate Kim Kardashian West.
Her butt has helped more prisoners through hard times than any AG.
Make AG sexy again
Uh, when has there ever been a sexy U.S. Attorney General?
I hear Bobby Kennedy was dreamy, but that was before my time and I don't really get it. Before that, we have to go back to Pierpont Edwards and his bitchin' sideburns
Ack, Edwards Pierrepont. DOJ's own website has his name backwards.
Bobby Kennedy! *swoons*
Also how can you deny the magnificence that was Francis Beverly Biddle?
Pun intended?
Always.
"Sessions resigned on Trump's orders, and it most certainly was due to the president's desire to reduce the scope of, or even shut down, Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller's investigation into Russia's role in the 2016 presidential election."
Wow. You're still pushing fever dreams?
It's not a dream, Mueller is still investigating it and has been this whole time.
And zero evidence has been provided to support the initial investigation, not to mention that literally zero people related to any type of collusion have been indicted. You and writers at Reason pushed a bogus gang-rape accusation that was farcical from the get go too. I guess I'm just wondering at what point do partisan narratives without any factual basis begin getting questioned?
""I guess I'm just wondering at what point do partisan narratives without any factual basis begin getting questioned?"'
By their own team? Never.
When the people who started the narrative recant and are themselves investigated criminally?
Yet another commenter who just cannot grasp why he hasn't been fully briefed on the factual underpinnings of a high-stakes investigation into Russian efforts to subvert the American political process. Gosh, I wonder why?
Yes, after two years, two congressional investigations, the entire resources of every media outlet in the US, and a special counsel investigation, with no evidence still provided to justify any of the wild conspiracies pushed by irresponsible partisans it's insane to believe that there is nothing there there. Donald Trump is equal parts undisciplined and boorish, yet also a criminal mastermind that has hidden such a vast conspiracy from Congress, the DOJ, and the media.
You're smart. Did you ever get to the bottom of the boofing conspiracy?
"two congressional investigations"
Both run by the President's own party, and one of those by Devin Nunes.
The one that starts in January will be the first Congressional investigation that actually wants to find anything.
"Donald Trump is equal parts undisciplined and boorish, yet also a criminal mastermind that has hidden such a vast conspiracy from Congress, the DOJ, and the media."
Donald Trump couldn't mastermind pouring water out of a boot. Just like everything else, if there was something actually done, it was done by somebody else. Hmm. Who could it be. Is there anyone in the cast of characters that would be capable of running a long-term, and yet still secret, effort to subvert American democracy? Anyone at all?
Tin foil hat time. Long term, secret conspriacies are nearly an oxymoron.
"Tin foil hat time. Long term, secret conspriacies are nearly an oxymoron."
Ah, did you give up before you figured out who I was talking about? I'll give you a hint... he used to be in a national intelligence agency.
The trump admin and Mueller haven't been able to keep a lid on most leaks and you think something that big would be able to stay hidden?
You're even dumber than Tony.
"The trump admin and Mueller haven't been able to keep a lid on most leaks and you think something that big would be able to stay hidden?"
You might have a point, if there WEREN'T a player in the field who tends to have people who spill his secrets suffering from nerve gas poisoning. I notice you left him off your list of people who haven't been able to keep a lid on leaks...
You wouldn't know a fact if it fucked your sister-girlfriend in front of you. How long are you going to hang onto this ridiculous, desperate "no evidence!" crap? Until all the evidence is presented to the public, or sometime after? And how long are you going to ignore the actual multiple indictments and cooperation agreements? All a hoax? Are all those people just being caught up in a Democrat plot? Whom are you trying to convince besides yourself?
You're the guy who still believes gang rape allegations in which the accuser herself has already backed away from her original accusation. Excuse me for not having "faith alone" in a Team, Trust Fund
""And how long are you going to ignore the actual multiple indictments"'
None, not a single one, is about Trump colluding with the Russians. You better check if your sister-girlfriend is ok.
This is going to be an incredibly obnoxious exercise in goalpost-moving, isn't it? Or at least, word-fucking. I don't know if Trump is guilty of engaging in a criminal conspiracy with foreigners. That's what we're trying to find out. I am pretty sure he's guilty of multiple counts of obstruction of justice since he did it live on TV.
You just literally shifted the goal post. Do you even read what you type?
I'm not sitting here demanding that the rhetoric be limited to only certain specific crimes that aren't even crimes so you can prove yourself right about.. whatever. I'm all for waiting this out and seeing just how many sundry crimes the Trumps are guilty of. God knows enough of the people he's surrounded himself have already plead guilty to many crimes.
I'm also not beclowning myself by proactively defending this ridiculous creature for no good reason other than, I suppose, you enjoy being a spooge receptacle for the Republican party.
Just think how much you'd shit yourself if even one Obama associate were implicated in something like this. Sell your pathetic horseshit to someone who can't smell it from a mile away.
Obstruction would be deleting emails you know are about to be subpoenaed.
But your response would be "but her emails" proving you don't really care about actual obstruction.
She's already been investigated over that.
What kind of sick fuck would even consider that noncrime in the same universe of what Trump's probably culpable of?
Why do almost all of you do nothing but suck Republican cock? I mean Jesus fucking Christ, do you not realize that's literally all you're doing? You have no reason to believe the crap you spew except sheer Team politics.
Well considering others have been prosecuted for far less. Google Kristian Sauciers.
Shifting them again after telling me that I "wouldn't know a fact if it fucked your sister-girlfriend in front of you. How long are you going to hang onto this ridiculous, desperate "no evidence!" crap?"
There's nothing there there and you know it. And again, you've been done in by a stupid and obviously thinly sourced conspiracy theory. Well done
And when Don Jr. gets indicted, you'll apologize? It could be an attempt at a diversion, but I'm not sure what to.
Tony, you really are special
Indicted doesn't equal conviction. Want an example of Mueller's track record on overzealous politically driven prosecutions, look up what he and the FBI did to Ted Stevens.
"Indicted doesn't equal conviction."
No, but it does spoil "no evidence" claims.
Considering most grand juries vote to indict, even if the evidence is non-existent, no it doesn't take evidence to indict. Next.
"most grand juries vote to indict, even if the evidence is non-existent"
Mind citing such a case? Just one?
You can charge obstruction unless you can prove an underlying criminal activity, and just FYI collusion isn't part of the federal criminal code. You have to show collusion to commit a crime. Collusion by itself means nothing.
"You can charge obstruction unless you can prove an underlying criminal activity, and just FYI collusion isn't part of the federal criminal code."
When did they repeal 18 USC 371?
Goddamn you're so fucking obtuse. You should really commit suicide ignite away.
The quality of right-wing death threats has declined substantially.
Trump is so innocent. Like that time he personally showed up at the meeting to move the FBI headquarters and told them the FBI needs to stay in DC. That had nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that the developer that was gonna buy the lot was gonna a build a luxury hotel across the street from the Trump Tower to directly compete with it. No abuse of power there.
Yeah because saying the headquarters of the main federal law enforcement agency needs to be in the capital is totally suspicious. There is no reason anyone would want to say that unless they were on the take.
And beyond that, isn't it a bit more suspicious that they wanted to move the FBI out of a perfectly good building and go to the trouble of building a new one and some developer was going to get rich off of tearing down the old one? I mean clearly it was Trump being so afraid of the competition. My god, the hotal at the old post office is the only one in town.
how do you people convince yourselves of this shit?
The building is old and in shambles, John. Furthermore, federal policy is to get critical agencies as spread out as possible to lessen the effects of a possible attack. So no, your arguments are incorrect.
Bullshit. Lots of federal agencies have lousy buildings. There is nothing to say the FBI deserves a new one. And there is no federal policy to spread the agencies out. They are all right in the middle of DC and would never dream of being further away from power. If the FBI really did want to move out of Washington, it was because someone stood to make a fortune from that developer to do so. No way does any agency voluntarily move itself away from the center of power. That is just not how government works, anywhere, ever.
Do you literally see a halo around Trump's head, John? Or did you totally miss the point?
Do you really so fucking stupid that you beleive that a federal agency wants to move out of Washignton DC?
Does Trump live in your head so much that it prevents you from seeing what a moronic claim that is? Stop projecting your obsession with Trump on me.
"No way does any agency voluntarily move itself away from the center of power."
Depends on how hostile the center of power is to the agency, now doesn't it?
It also depends on whether or not they can make the power move to them.
Where's the headquarters for NORAD? (Hint: Not in DC. Not in DC's time zone.)
Have you ever been inside the Hoover bldg?
Slap some paint on it and suck it up bureaucrats.
Government buildings are supposed to be old and cheap. It saves taxpayers money.
Considering when we got deployed in preparation for Iraqi Freedom we got stuck in condemned WWII barracks so I have no sympathy for any federal bureaucrat who doesn't like their outdated office. You know TDS has reached critical levels when a so called libertarian is upset that the President stopped a federal agency from spending tax payer money.
Half of San Diego lives in those shacks. Do you have a point?
What does that have to do with Russia Fever Dreams? I'm surprised you support this position, considering that no anti-war publication (from the Nation to The American Conservative) has considered the whole Russia investigation as anything more than an effort to ensure that the US maintains an aggressive posture in the Middle East and with Russia.
Everyone from Glenn Greenwald to Noam Chomsky to Max Bluementhal have condemned the Russia investigation. And these are not pro-Trump people.
I don't understand your position, Chipper
When you have Glenn Greenwald and Alan Dershawitz defending Trump, you may have gone off the rails a little bit. Just saying.
Is Mueller limited to the Russia collusion investigation?
That was the whole purpose of the investigation. I know that people need to save face after breathlessly repeating CIA talking points by wanting to expand the probe.
You're showing an astounding lack of principle based on the principal
No, it's also whether Trump obstructed the inquiry into the Russian conspiracy.
Which, again, is related to the Russia conspiracy. But, if there is no there there then accusing someone of obstructing something where there is no crime is a pretty ballsy move.
You even have a Democratic House now, so even if the argument is that the Republican majority was somehow hiding nefarious evidence that totally proved the whole thing to be true that argument is gone now.
So in what world is a two year special counsel investigation that has produced zero indictments related to the original fever dreams that inspired its establishment still justified?
I am still amazed that you consider yourself a libertarian and yet you spend all this time defending the man who wields the most political power in the world.
I'm surprised you consider yourself anti-war. You're defending the CIA. Do you honestly think that it's just some kind of coincidence that Glenn Greenwald, Noam Chomskey, and Max Bluementhal have found common ground with Jeff Deist and Justin Raimondo in agreeing that this whole Russia conspiracy is utter bullshit?
The only results of Russia Fever Dreams have been increased sanctions against Russia (which the woke brand of libertarianism somehow thinks are OK, while simultaneously denouncing Iran sanctions), further involvement in Syria, and arming the Ukrainians.
Your principles can't be this paper thin to the point where they are ignored because you don't like the principal involved.
You think NPC baculum has principles?
Ha!
Those would interfere with pathetic quest for approval through desperate virtue signaling and witless "jokes"
Because it's totes libertarian to support endless, evidence free investigations because the person being investigated is a poopy head?
Chipper Morning Baculum|11.7.18 @ 5:25PM|#
"I am still amazed that you consider yourself a libertarian and yet you spend all this time defending the man who wields the most political power in the world."
I'm not amazed that a fucking lefty ignoramus would offer that as an argument for anything other than proving the fucking lefty ignoramus was a lefty ignoramus, lefty ignoramus.
Is that clear, lefty ignoramus?
"Which, again, is related to the Russia conspiracy. But, if there is no there there then accusing someone of obstructing something where there is no crime is a pretty ballsy move."
A theory:
Trump doesn't know if there's any there there, but he's afraid there is.
He definitely DOES NOT want to find out that the Russians meddled to get him elected, because they knew how useless he'd be as US Commander-in-Chief. The fact that roughly a third of Americans already know this and another third strongly suspect it, he only appears in front of crowds drawn from the OTHER third.
We do know that he babbled confidential information directly to the Russians, so their investment paid off.
Actually you are using theory wrong.what you have is, at best, an hypothesis. A theory has undergone rigorous testing, and has provided strong evidence. If you want to sound smart, use the correct word.
And your lack of any evidence and wild accusations makes it less of an hyothesis, even, and more of what we in science like to call a wild ass guess.
" If you want to sound smart, use the correct word."
If you want to be condescending, be smarter than the person you're condescending to.
Better luck next time.
No evidence against Trump, and all the evidence that has been found supports prosecuting the Clintons and various other prominent democrats.
... is what a committed partisan would claim. Repeatedly.
No it isn't. It's the truth. You're just a lying progtard, so you won't admit it.
... is what a committed idiot would claim. Repeatedly.
Tomy, now we can expand the investigation to include all those guilty democrats. Since all the evidence shows Trump to be innocent and the democrats to be the ins conspiring with the Russians.
Tony|11.7.18 @ 4:19PM|#
"It's not a dream, Mueller is still investigating it and has been this whole time."
And found that some folks who know who Trump is were caught J-walking at one time or another.
Loser loses.
It's not a dream, Mueller is still investigating it and has been this whole time.
And he will continue to do so for as long as Trump is president, and then he will fade away into the sunset.
Chris Christie!
Thank you for squelching the joy right out of Granny getting canned.
Is that a euphemism for a girthy penis?
*sigh*
smdh
Go away, NPC baculum.
And I mean this in an existential sense.
Jared Kushner approves!
We'll have to wait to see who Trump submits as Sessions' permanent replacement.
My guess is:
John Yoo. Things went downhill since we got squeamish about torture. Bring it back. MAGA.
After what he did with Mission: Impossible II, he should be persona non grata.
That's Woo. You ask who's Yoo. Whoohoo.
""John Yoo. Things went downhill since we got squeamish about torture. Bring it back. MAGA."'
This would be appropriate considering who is now in charge of the CIA.
I suppose there is some sucker out there who thinks it's a good idea to apply for the job of chief of security on the Titanic after it already hit the iceberg.
The blue wave will keep the ship from sinking.
Maybe not the best mix of metaphors here.
Now you got me hoping that Billy Zane gets the nomination.
Hey, it's not like he has anything better to do with his time these days, so why not?
It helps when you know you're only a wetsuit, scuba tank and short evening's swim from the Akula-class sub waiting to extract you to Murmansk.
So does Whitaker now take over Rosenstein's role as supervisor of the Mueller investigation? I mean, Whitaker's presumably not recused, and the special counsel is supposed to report to the AG, not the deputy AG.
Of coursex it's the only reason Sessions was ever fired.
I. WANT. TO. BELIEVE.
Lets spend 2 years on Hillary and Obama and see what we find out.
Oh thats right, comey got all the coconspirators immunity for no information. Great deal for taxpayers.
I would find ways to undo those deals, or prosecute them for other crimes.
Or get Mueller to admit they were only given immunity to cover Hillary's tracks, since that would attach fraud, the immunity deals would be voided.
"Lets spend 2 years on Hillary and Obama and see what we find out."
You want to pretend the last 6 years didn't happen?
I want to an AG who will vicious,y prosecute democrats for all their crime and villainy. A full time job and them some.
I hope so, Rosenstein was a fact witness to the process used to fire Comey, he should have recused himself too. Unless of course they were never seriously looking at the obstruction charge in the first place.
"If Jeff Sessions is fired there will be holy hell to pay. It will be the beginning of the end of the Trump administration."
Who said it?
*munches popcorn*
I mean, there's a reason Trump waited until now to get rid of Sessions. The political calculations were different a week ago. Now, Trump's got a redder Senate and - he believes - a layer of impunity.
No vulnerable R Senator was going to confirm a new AG in October.
Why would Trump wait until the Republicans had a larger majority in the Senate and he had more freedom to choose who he wanted to replace him? Why?
Simon, did your parents have any children who lived?
Why wouldn't he? Are you being sarcastic? Or could you explain what's so weird about that reasoning?
I was being sarcastic. That is exactly what he was doing. Sorry that wasn't clear.
Got you.
Maybe I'm reading SimonP's post wrong.
"Maybe I'm reading SimonP's post wrong."
Yes.
Reading simoNPC posts is almost always wrong
It's not just the redder Senate - 2 years is a long time in politics - the smart play now would be to do pretty much every (relatively) unpopular thing that he wants done. As long as people don't view any of it as too extreme it will be old news by the time 2020 rolls around.
Beltway folks think all this shit matter to the average voter. The fact is that govt. shutdowns, amd shit like this only matter to the people who have already made up their mind. So as long as he doesn't get too nuts, Trumo can hire and fire whoever the fuck he wants and it makes no difference at the ballot box.
CNN exit polling shows the majority of voters believe the Russia investigation is politically driven and the plurality believe it has gone to far.
"2 years is a long time in politics"
Thus far, the trend has been that no matter how wacky a thing Donnie does, he can find something else wackier in no more than 48 hours, and it's all good.
He's found his recipe for "success".
His fans like it when A) he lies to them about what he's accomplishing, and B) whatever he's doing is driving people who care about government nuts. He's great at both.
"Thus far, the trend has been that no matter how wacky a thing Donnie does, he can find something else wackier in no more than 48 hours, and it's all good."
Well, the other trend has been that no matter how wacky a thing Trump does, the hard-core "resistance" types completely lose their shit and do something at least as wacky (if not more so) in response, so the net political effect ends up somewhere near a wash.
Exactly ryan frank.
Some of America rewarded Demicrats for their behavior woth kavanaugh etc.

C'mon, you know he dances around his office to this song.
Has there ever been an AG who wasn't a total dick? I thought Mueller said he was presenting findings as soon as mid-terms were over? Maybe Trump is anticipating the Dem committees keeping Mueller investigating until end of 2020. Which is probably a good assumption.
No. Trump is just going to appoint a new AG who is going to fire Mueller and shut down the investigation. And there will not be a damn thing the Democrats can do about it. And the country is tired of hearing about the issue and won't care either, or to the extent it does it will be retards like Tony and Simon who are programed to vote Dem under all circumstances anyway.
I think Edmund Randolph was okay, but not great. Likewise, Roger Taney, though he kinda killed his legacy with Dred Scott.
Felix Grundy and Philander Knox had funny names, so that counts.
Saying Roger Taney killed his legacy with Dred Scott is like saying Charlie Manson hurt his reputation with that whole Tate murder thing.
Hard to say that Harlan Stone or Elliot Richardson were bad. But yeah - it's really amazing how many AG's see their role as just an immoral flunkie or manipulative bastard
Generally being a dick is part of the requirement to be a prosecutor at any level.
But I have a new found respect for Eric Holder, his precedent of ignoring congressional supeanas and deepsixing referrals for contempt of Congress might be a good role model for the next AG.
Ted Cruz, now the seat is safe.
I like that idea. My choice would be Guilliani. He is a former US attorney, so he understands the department and has the bonus of being a complete asshole. Few people deserve to have Rudy Guilliani inflicted on them more than the cretins at DOJ.
I saw a plug on instapundit.com last week for Janice Roger's Brown. Former California Deputy AG, Cali Supreme Court Justice, DC circuit court judge. It would be hard to say she's not qualified and she leans Liberatarian.
I REALLY dislike Guilliani for sooooo many reasons... He's a total dirt bag. BUT I do think he seems to hate the fuck out of the Dems enough to just go berserk on them. That I would be okay with!
Even assholes have their proper use!
What's Chris Christie doing these days?
eating.
The only person I've seen more perfectly spherical than that guy is the blueberry girl from Willy Wonka.
Violet! You're turning violet, Violet.
Christie failed Wonka 101
You won the internet for the day!
Pulling in nearby meteors.
"Ted Cruz, now the seat is safe."
How many days would Ted last working for Trump in a job Donnie could terminate at will? The over/under line would be a single-digit number.
Good thing there's two Session's threads. Because there's now way to contain the excitement to just one.
Also what does this mean for the marijuana stuff?
That all ends with Sessions leaving right? I assume it was his particular bugaboo, and that there's not going to be anyone willing to pick it up and keep it going.
It means nothing. This has nothing to do with normal politics and everything to do with Trump's criminal exposure. How fucking stupid are you people? No offense but god damn you fuckers are blind.

Sarc or true fucking stupidity. I'm a gonna go stupid.
Also what does this mean for the marijuana stuff?
Little to nothing. Congress needs to act on Marijuana. Trying to get the AG to fix marijuana policy is doing it exactly backwards.
newest senator should be appointed to throw shit at Schumer every time he tries to speak.
Who'll give me odds he nominates Jared and/or Ivanka?
They're all gonna have fled to Trump Tower, No Extradition Treaty, before long. Wouldn't the story just be so nice and tidy if they had managed to make their getaway to the now-defunct TT Moscow that probably got all this shit started?
There's 0% chance the D-man holes up in Trump Tower.
He can't cheat at golf in there.
Poor lefty loser Tony; what a piece of shit.
He's just dumb as shit. Sometimes in an amusing way sometimes not.
Winning is awesome!
Maybe Trump should nominate Kim Kardashian West
Now that's a choice I can get behind.
Re-Legalizing the weed is in the future for The Donald
Oh what will Ben & Jerry's Do?
Kim Kardashian West has roughly the same level of education as, and a substantially better record of achievement than, Secretary DeVos.
Oh! E.L. Fudge!
"albeit a person more loyal to Trump than to the appearance of an impartial Justice Department."
Considering that that's all it ever was, the mere appearance of impartiality, (And a pretty threadbare appearance, at that!) what's the problem?
What I want is a DOJ that will actually enforce the anti-Klan acts, and go after the Antifa. Maybe break the corrupt bargain where each administration refrains from prosecuting the former, in return for not being prosecuted by the next.
I know it's just a dream, but wouldn't it be sweet to see Hillary in that orange jumpsuit?
How refreshing that you now OPENLY wish for political prisoners.
I bet you still wonder why most Americans aren't buying in.
I openly wish for all you progtard traitors to have your lives destroyed for al, the evil things you have done based on your villainous Marxist beliefs. You deserve to experience misery and confinement, and so much worse.
The bigots lose in America, except perhaps when they grab a gun and start shooting at a playground or school or nightclub. Right-wingers dislike this, so they rant and mutter a lot. But they still lose in America.
The culture war is over. Republicans and conservatives have lost and are becoming electorally weaker just about daily. They should figure out how to work with the liberal-libertarian mainstream or get ready for a lifetime of whimpering and bitching.
You a troll at home, too? Or just at work?
So if it wasn't for the permanent witch hunt investigating a person searching for a crime within his department they would be best buddies?
If it wasn't that he completely ignores actual collusion uncovered between the FBI/DNC and Russia they would be out fishing today?
Yea sure good point. If it wasn't for that
"Criminal justice reform" would be fine and well... But it's really not a MAJOR issue in the country today. Sure they drug war should be ended, and doing it at least on weed seems possible... But it's not an existential problem we face.
Other than the drug war, there REALLY isn't a lot that needs to be done anyway. Murderers, rapists, etc should all be taken out back and shot IMO... Provided they received a fair trial and were proven guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt. Sentencing reform for real crimes with victims is pretty much a non issues for MOST crimes, although I'm sure some are overly punished. But again, just not a big deal.
If anything, I'd want an AG who will be a ruthless attack dog going after all the shady shit Democrats constantly are doing, and actually prosecuting them for it. They could aggressively fight unconstitutional crap they're trying to do around the country through the various ways and means they have at their disposal. And other such similar things.
"I'd want an AG who will be a ruthless attack dog going after all the shady shit Democrats constantly are doing, and actually prosecuting them for it."
How about an AG who's a ruthless attack dog going after all the shady shit Democrats be doing, and the shady shit Republicans be doing, and the shady shit non-partisans be doing, and prosecuting them all? Would that work for you?
It would actually!
Thing is, the Rs are mostly unimportant "Boss Hog" kind of corruption IMO. The Democrats are more like a cartel that's actually doing major shit.
Republican getting a million bucks on the DL for some shady land deal... Not cool, but not of much importance in the grand scheme of things...
Democrats working with almost every major internet company to stifle free speech of their political opponents... YEAH, that's a really big fucking problem.
I'm fine with going after both, but since resources are not unlimited, I opt to go after the big shit first.
"Democrats working with almost every major internet company to stifle free speech of their political opponents... YEAH, that's a really big fucking problem."
Not even illegal.
Legal or illegal doesn't have anything to do with something being right or wrong, a problem or not. See the drug war, slavery, etc.
BTW, is the fix in for Hillary in 2022 at the DNC yet?
In 2022?
Will she be running for Congress, then?
vek up there makes an interesting assertion 'Other than the drug war, there REALLY isn't a lot that needs to be done anyway'. That got me thinking and I'd like to see if other people have opinions about what 'needs to be done'.
How about everyone chime in on what they feel their top 3 things the federal government should do ASAP.
I'll start.
1) Seriously reduce or eliminate both legal and illegal drug regulation
2) Make it so the FDA can be bypassed by using private sector for-profit certification agencies
3) Eliminate federal recognition of civil marriage by eliminating all mention of relationships on federal forms
"How about everyone chime in on what they feel their top 3 things the federal government should do ASAP."
1) provide for the common defense
2) promote the general welfare
3) secure, for ourselves and our posterity, the blessings of liberty.
Justice and domestic tranquility seem to be lost causes.
Destroying progressives accomplishes all three goals.
Well, I was just talking about as far as "criminal justice reform" goes, as that was kind of a theme going here. As I said, drugs should be legal... But it's not an existential problem, just a middlin' one. Mandatory minimums are whack too. Other than that, on that front, not a lot that should be changed IMO.
As for the government in general:
1. Immigration reform. As much as all the open borders libertarians like to deny it, this is the single most important issue in the country. The people that think it's not only think so because they will not admit the obvious: Immigrants ARE NOT all the same. They DO bring cultural baggage. And in the western world, they all vote left. Therefore who we allow in, and in what numbers, will be the SINGLE most important issue that determines the fate of western civilization. I opt to slow it down, and only allow in skilled workers. We might actually keep our civilization going if we do that.
2. Balance the budget. Solid cuts to the military, entitlement reform, and gutting most other departments that shouldn't exist anyway.
3. Maybe end our aggressive foreign policy? I dunno.
Shack, why do you care about the Russia stuff, when you know there's nothing there?
Trump should nominate Elmer Fudd, providing of course, if Elmer can stop hunting those wascally wabbits.
Until the Congress repeals the laws on controlled substances, I expect an AG to enforce those laws, and all the other laws on the books.
Has Robby read the charges? I'd wager hate speech, cultural appropriation, assaulting an officer (trying to pull away), assaulting airport security (putting knees together to prevent groping), assaulting a jailer (being slow to obey), defiant aggression with Bill of Rights... I'd be surprised if a single one was approached in the first place for anything other than victimless or imaginary "crimes." Every violent crime I ever witnessed was committed by minions of the political state.
