Chinese officials have blocked the release of Disney's Christopher Robin in that country. No reason was given for the move. But the movie depicts a grown up Christopher Robin getting a visit from his childhood friend Winnie the Pooh, and Chinese censors have cracked down on references to Winnie ever since critics of President Xi Jinping have mocked his resemblance to the character.

This is what I was coming in to say. Maybe this is just a massive difference between American culture and Chinese culture, (although, there are lots of places with lese majeste type laws, so it's probably not a "Chinese" thing per se) but to me, throwing a giant tantrum just because someone compared you with a fictional stuffed animal (that everyone likes!) just makes you look ridiculously weak.

Like, I don't read this and think, "My, how impressive! Virile Xi Jinping really knows how to order an army to crack down on dissent!"

I read this and think, "So, he's about on the level with a 4 year old who gets called a name and then runs shrieking to the pre-school teacher."

If someone were to compare me to Winnie the Pooh, on the other hand, that would be just ridiculous. I'm clearly way more like Eeyore.

In China the leader censors you. In America the leader ridicules you on Twitter (Trump) or sends his minions out to the media he controls to ridicule you (Obama).

I think it's the difference between a 4 year old running to the teacher and a 5 year old who is old enough to make fun of you back.

But what it REALLY is, is another shot in the trade wars, this time at American movie-makers!!!
