Roy Moore Should Get a Female Muslim Uber to Drive Him to Saudi Arabia
His version of Christianity is the spiritual twin of Sharia
If there is a God, s/he certainly has a great sense of irony. In the same week that Saudi Arabia, an Islamic theocracy, eased up on its ban on allowing women to drive, America handed a victory in the Alabama Republican primary to Roy Moore, a man committed to imposing a Christian theocracy on this country.
Moore likes to rail against Islam and Sharia law. But the fact of the matter is that his Christianity has more in common with Sharia than American liberal democracy. He may rave and rant against Islam as a "fake religion" all he wants I note in my column at The Week this morning, but he would curtail the personal freedoms of Americans in much the same way that regressive forms of Sharia would.
Think of his religion as the Christian version of Taliban rule with slightly more checks and balances and fewer beards. But why is it suddenly gaining currency in America?

Make Dalmia Cry Again
I didn't realize this was the same Alabama justice who got shot down for both the Ten commandments monument and for refusing to issue marriage licenses for same sex unions. This guy would be an absolute terror if he were made King of Alabama. Hopefully Alabama has some good checks on power in place (other than the US Supreme Court and Federal Law).
Oops. Just saw he's running for Senator, not Governor. So he'll be nearly powerless either way.
Lets be honest, this is the seat Sessions was in. Did we expect to get something that wasn't like Sessions?
To top it off, did we really want the guy McConnell picked to win that seat?
Moore might be a fundie, I honestly don't know but I imagine he probably is, but what is the Christian version of Sharia law and where is it written down? Surely Dalmia can point us to it.
I also assume that Dalmia believes that religious tests for office are a good and right thing. How else can we keep the Muslim's, Jews, and Christian's from serving?
Let's assume for a moment that Moore if he could, would criminalize homosexuality and abortion. Abortion was a crime until 1973. Homosexuality was a crime in some states until the early 2000s. So, by Dalmia's logic America in 1965 was morally closer to Afghanistan under the Taliban than what she considers to be a liberal democracy.
The worst thing about this piece of drivel, beyond that fact that it doesn't provide any information or make any attempt to persuade the reader to the author's point of view or do anything but hurl invective and hyperbole, is that Dalmia isn't being metaphorical here. She actually believes that a country that criminalizes abortion and homosexuality in any way is morally the same as the Taliban. Dalmia remains the most offensively stupid writer outside of the far left fever swamps today. How does someone like her get hired?
If you're a woman in need of an abortion or a homosexual, it's certainly bad enough.
I do adore the recent Republican mantra, "At least we're not as bad as ISIS!" Make America just barely good enough again!
If you are a woman or a gay, you would crawl on your hands and knees over broken glass to escape the Taliban and live in 1965 America. Your ignorance and hatred are going to get you killed one of these days Tony. Every day when you wake up you should thank God you were born in a place where you can be as stupid and hateful as you are without consequence.
So is your point that we should have stopped progressing in 1965? That as long as we're better than the Taliban, we're OK! ? What is your point exactly?
No. My point is Dalmia is a hateful idiot for thinking the US is in any way close to or like the Taliban.
I believe she's saying that people like Roy Moore would like us to be a lot more like the Taliban than we are now.
And that is moronic and only a delusional idiot like you couldn't see that.
Because he's not Muslim, right?
a woman in need of ...a homosexual
it takes all colors to make a rainbow
I do adore the recent Republican mantra, "At least we're not as bad as ISIS!" Make America just barely good enough again!
As opposed to the Democrat mantra of "You're all racists and sexists!"? That's better.
Tony, what country, in history, has lived up to your lofty beliefs on how a country should be run?
Let's make it an UberX so we can load your sorry ass in the car and drop you off along on the way in the exact same place your friend got killed.
Why is Reason publishing anti-Christian bigotry?
Suck it Jesus, this award is my God now.
Imagine being held in such contempt and seen as so ineffectual that his kind of unhinged trolling doesn't even generate objections.
What better way to start the weekend than yet another hysterical Shikha article full of logical non-sequiturs and populated with an army of strawmen.
What makes it even more entertaining is that she is so earnest in her delusions: She truly does believe that Moore would turn America into a Christian version of Afghanistan.
She must have been binge-watching The Handmaid's Tale this week.
is Dalmia filling in for Chapman now?
Before you go criticizing anybody who criticizes Moore, you really ought to acquaint yourself with the guy and his beliefs. The fucker's a speaking-in-tongues snake-handling no-shit religious nutjob from the backest of backwoods Alabama. He damn near might as well be from Mississippi.
Moore's likely more "libertarian-leaning" than Jeff Flake (RINO-Swamp)
Lol
It's cool John visited Alabama once.
At least that is something. Shikha didn't offer even that as a rationale for why he is as terrible as she said. I still want to see the proof. Shikha and a lot of journalists have this lazy and stupid habit of slapping labels on people they disagree with and pretending that they have defeated the strawmen they are creating
I was going to engage in juvenile snark, then I read this:
fta:
So all of America is regressing because one fuckhead won a primary. In Alabama.
O. Kay.
It never occurs to Dalmia that people voted for Moore because of the positions he has on things that he actually could effect as a Senator. Nope, they voted for him because they think he is going to make America a Christian theocracy. She is just awful and seems to get worse every time she opens her mouth.
She blithely condemns the entire country and everyone in it, because a few primary voters in one state nominated a person she doesn't like. He isn't even elected Senator (maybe he will win the election, I have no idea) yet.
The logic of this escapes me.
The logic is that Dalmia is a really nasty person who loathes this country and nearly all of the people in it and twists every event into a justification for that view. Dalmia is almost pathological in her hatred of all but a small portion of American society.
That's every prog ever.
She didn't condemn the entire country just the scumbags who empower Roy Moore types.
She blithely condemns the entire country and everyone in it, because a few primary voters in one state nominated a person she doesn't like. He isn't even elected Senator (maybe he will win the election, I have no idea) yet.
His opponent has said he's pro-abortion until the head comes out of the birth canal.
But, yeah, Moore is the extreme one.
Roy Moore is an absolute joke and I can't believe even you are defending him.
Tony, I know you are slow-witted but there is nothing in that paragraph that says anything about Moore. It is talking about the people who voted for him and why. So move along and troll some other thread.
You don't think people in the Alabama Republican primary voted for him for who he is and the things he's advocated? Are you calling them morons or something?
Yes. Tony. That is because I am a thoughtful person who has actually been to Alabama and knows something about the people there and not some hateful idiot whose entire identity depends on the cartoons that live inside his head like you are.
I understand you are stupid. But that doesn't excuse how nasty and awful you are.
At least I didn't call for criminalizing homosexuality and burning the Bill of Rights.
We're not defending Moore, we're defending the Christian Theocracy whose grubby, child-molesting hands are just within reach of taking complete hold of America, from sea to shining sea.
+1
Of fuck you. Roy Moore's entire career is irrelevant, but where Obama was alleged to have been born had you bothered for the better part of a decade. This is why people think you're an asshole. Which other politician do you apply this blind monkey standard to? Is it only the ridiculous theocrats?
It's true that some people don't consider Hawaii to be part of the US.
Yeah Tony, I am a big birther. Jesus fucking Christ you are a lying idiot. Where do you get the idea I think Obama was born in Kenya? You just make it up because your entire personal identity depends on the grotesque cartoons that run around in your head that you use to justify your hatred and ignorance. You are just a sad person.
Motherfucker I don't where you sleep but where I live these cock suckers were still targeting and jailing gay people 5 years after the Supreme Court issued that razor thin opinion. These Republicans to this day refuse to amend the criminal code to remove these constitutionally and morally offensive sodomy laws. Fuck you for pretending like it couldn't happen in America because it did happen and is probably a coinflip away from happening again.
I live these cock suckers were still targeting and jailing gay people 5 years after the Supreme Court issued that razor thin opinion.
Sure you do. That is why you have so thoughtfully provided links giving examples of this.
Cool story bro. But sadly no one cares about the voices in your head.
John, jesus fucking christ, what do you dispute? That the Republicans in the Louisiana legislature refuse to amend the criminal code to extricate the sodomy laws? Google it. The same Republicans fiercely dispute the validatity of Lawrence v. Texas? Do you question whether the Baton Rouge police department was running stings to ensare gay men years after Lawrence v. Texas?
You don't know shit about the conservatives down here if you don't know they pine for the day when they can overturn the courts on gay sex legalization.
John understands perfectly well. He is one of those people.
I don't do links because I comment from a phone and frustrating enough as it is.
Fuck you for pretending like it couldn't happen in America because it did happen and is probably a coinflip away from happening again.
Who's pretending like it couldn't happen? The Christian Taliban practically have control of America's institutions as we speak!
So all of America is regressing because one fuckhead won a primary. In Alabama.
O. Kay.
If that was said about Ellison's election, she'd decry it as racist.
Wow, this sounds pretty awful:
"Most chilling, however, is that he is the author of the misnamed 2005 Constitution Restoration Act that would give Congress the power to remove any judge who refuses to recognize God as the source of America's law. The bill also seeks to limit the power of the Supreme Court to overrule or punish any state official or judge acting in the name of God's law and, instead, would impeach the judges who take on such cases. Think of it as the Christian version of Taliban rule with slightly more checks and balances and fewer beards."
But just in case her summary is not 100% accurate, let's check the actual bill from 2005 - and whether you agree with it or not, compare it against Dalmia's summary and see if she was accurate:
First, the federal courts are not allowed to hear any challenge to a public official's "acknowledgment of God as the sovereign source of law, liberty, or government."
Second, federal courts aren't allowed to use foreign law to interpret the U. S. Constitution, except English common law predating the Constitution.
Third, state courts aren't bound by federal precedents from before the Act which the federal courts would not have been allowed to rule on after the Act.
Fourth, federal judges who violate the terms of the Act would be subject to impeachment and will have violated "good behavior."
If enacted (which is unlikely), the bill would mean that people like Moore couldn't be sued for erecting his 10 Commandments monument, quoting the Declaration of Independence ("laws of nature of nature's God"), and school boards could open their sessions with prayer, etc., etc.
And even if you think this is awful and unconstitutional and sky-daddy bleevers should keep their opinions to themselves if they're public officials acting in an official capacity, it's a far cry from executing "infidels," gays, etc.
Which is the equivalence she's trying to draw.
Also, if the act passes, the federal courts could use only 100% American sources when interpreting the American constitution, with the exception that they could consider pre-1787 legal precedents from England.
Awful, awful. But not Taliban-awful.
Also, under the bill, *state* courts would be at liberty to stop the government from being too God-ish, if that's what the state courts want to do.
Shikha, exaggerate or misrepresent an issue in order to smear conservatives? The very idea!
It is shocking, isn't it?
Roy Moore Should Get a Female Muslim Uber to Drive Him to Saudi Arabia
Where he can be imprisoned for being christian and she can be stoned for driving?
His version of Christianity is the spiritual twin of Sharia
Because he said rights come from God (or the creator..)? (like it says in the Declaration of Independence...)
Moore likes to rail against Islam and Sharia law. But the fact of the matter is that his Christianity has more in common with Sharia than American liberal democracy.
I fail to understand why you are allowed to write here. There is so much wrong with this sentence.
but he would curtail the personal freedoms of Americans in much the same way that regressive forms of Sharia would.
Because majorities of Christians in the US tacitly (or expressly) support violence against non-believers...
She's being hyperbolic, but he's repeatedly said homosexuality should be illegal and when asked if it should be punishable by death he said he didn't have an opinion (he's also for years associated himself with a prominent pastor who explicitly calls for the death penalty for homosexuality). He's said America deserved 9/11 and other tragedies because we are morally depraved. His vision of rights and religious freedom pretty much exclusively applies to things he and his form of Christianity approve of. He isn't literally as bad as the Taliban, but that's not saying much. At some point you should be more concerned with the fucked up views of a likely future senator than a journalist's hyperbole.
All information that could have proven useful in a contextualized article. Instead we get screeching. Anyway, even if that is all true, he is just one potential senator. But let's refrain from making him dictator.
No, she is lying. There is nothing in this article that indicates she means these things in any sort of metaphorical way.
Half of that stuff is more opinion than black-and-white truth/fact. And Moore's views are extreme. Jailing gay people and not even ruling out the death penalty is fucked up, and does put him in similar company as Islamic extremists on that issue. His views on 9/11 would have gotten him crucified by the right if he were, say I don't know, Jeremiah Wright. When you spew that crap, you're going to get compared to extremists, even some that are nonetheless worse than you. Spare me the faux outrage. Lord knows conservatives never make hyperbolic comparisons about their political opponents. The fact that a Senate candidate wanting to lock up gay people is no big deal, but a journalist comparing him to Islamic extremists over it is a huge problem is indicative of the fucked up priorities of much of the conservative movement.

If you're a woman in need of an abortion or a homosexual, it's certainly bad enough.
Watch out, Tony. That cousinfucker (to use your vernacular...) might want to throw you off a roof because he's, like, the American Taliban 'n junk. It's exactly what American Christians advocate. Like forreal.
We're not as bad as murdering terrorists! Make America at least not the worst shithole on earth again!
Moore likes to rail against Islam and Sharia law. But the fact of the matter is that his Christianity has more in common with Sharia than American liberal democracy.
Except for the rampant killing and the whole murdering raped women thing. Oh, and Christianity helped bring about the Enlightenment. Provided freedom never before imagined possible.
Sure, the same fucking thing, you fucking moron.
Note that she said "his Christianity" not just Christianity. I'm fairly certain she's referring to his brand of it, not the whole religion.
