Coney Island Cop Caught on Video Assaulting Man Over Dropped Drink
"I'm just lucky to be alive. So many people died because of cases like this."

An officer with the New York Police Department (NYPD) found himself in court this week after losing his shit on someone who failed to follow orders by picking up a plastic cup.
The victim told reporters at the Brooklyn Supreme Court yesterday that he's just happy he wasn't killed: "I'm just lucky to be alive. So many people died because of cases like this."
Acting Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said in a statement that the cop, O'Keefe Thompson, "crossed the line by allegedly assaulting a man and later threatening him" over the incident. (Ya think?)
The target of Thompson's ire, 23-year-old Raymond Crespo, was at Coney Island in July when a friend knocked a plastic cup out of his hand. Thompson allegedly told Crespo to pick up the cup, and the young man refused.
A verbal argument ensued—leading to Officer Thompson slamming Crespo against a nearby bodega doorway, "knocking him to the ground [and] dragging him out onto the sidewalk," according to the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office. After Crespo "was motionless for a few seconds," Thompson "grabbed him again, dragged him several more feet and dropped him to the ground again." Crespo would later be treated at the Coney Island Hospital for head pain, facial swelling and bruising, and a possible concussion.
The whole incident was caught on nearby surveillance video.
But Thompson's abuse and harassment didn't end there. The next day—after Crespo had filed an official complaint against the officer—Thompson went to Crespo's neighborhood looking for him, according to the district attorney's office. Upon finding Crespo, Thompson confronted him, pointing out the gun in his waistband and asking, "Why are you shitting on my name? Do you know what I'm going to do to you?"
This incident was also caught on camera, by members of a crowd that had to physically restrain Officer Thompson to keep him away from Crespo.
After turning himself in yesterday, Thompson was indicted on two counts of third-degree assault, two counts of official misconduct, and one count of intimidating a witness. He plead not guilty and is due back in court in November 29.
Thompson has also been suspended without pay from the NYPD. According to the New York Daily News, other NYPD officers are under investigation for possibly helping Thompson in his intimidation tactics.

3rd degree assault? I guess that's a lower form of assault, like shaking your fist in someone's face, or sending them to the hospital. I hate to see what 1st degree assault is.
It's disgusting.
At least witness intimidation is a felony
This is pretty impressive. I can guarantee that no prosecutor in the country is going to let Juice off with a 3rd degree assault charge if he cold cocks some guy in an unprovoked attack, all while carrying a handgun.
And he damn sure isn't just going to get "intimidating a witness" if he shows up at his victim's home the day after a complaint is filed with the police and brandishes a gun and threatens him. He'd be lucky he didn't get felony aggravated assault and making terroristic threats tagged on there. Like, so lucky that I don't believe it would happen.
But at least they are holding him criminally liable. That's a major improvement over other cases.
Wooo-Hooo! A rogue, out-of-control cop having his feet held to the fire? Or maybe at least to the hair dryer?
The Age of Miracles is upon us!
One of the links is a Newspeak video of the kid reportedly holding a (toy? imaginary?) knife. "He ADVANCED on the officer" (at 1,5 miles per hour). Then, after the brave first responder fired a warning shot through the kid's heart, "He DIED in the hospital." (Serves him right!) The Newspeak coverage of this article's event doubtless alleges the skinny litterbug "used the officer's arm to self-inflict" and bemoans the resulting miscarriage of justice.

Really, the fault lies with whomever called the officers to the scene. In any event, apparently/predictably the memorial ritual appears to be vandalize property, assault some people, and set fire to cars.
The guy who got shot made the call. It was suicide by cop
See? Bodegas are real.
Let me guess...he's gonna waive his right to a jury trial...
Suspended sentence, early retirement, re-hired as a correction officer upstate.
Not re-hired - Crusty made a mistake. It happens to Crusty.
Don't go down this hole, Crusty. I truly fear your soul is at stake.
That's what your mom said.
And then she put the glass eye back in.
His soul is a steak.
Your soul is a steak!
And now it wants a baked potato too!
Well done, sir. You're in rare form today.
The exact same sentence that a non-cop would get for the same crimes. What's the problem?
I hate littering more than pretty much any other petty crime. If police officers spent all their time fighting littering, I would probably support them a lot more.
Littering and?
... creating a public nuisance.
*slides down the bench*
The Group W bench.
I'm freakin' out, man!
Hopefully you are not implying that this police officer was "fighting littering" with his actions?
Haha god no. It just triggered me into a rant about how much I detest littering.

That's going above and beyond the call of duty. What an exemplary officer.
He'll probably get paid OT for the visit
Is Crespo a Person Of Color? I can't begin to imagine how this is newsworthy if he isn't.
A Crespo is a really old Leppo.
Ha, ha.
The cop is black.
Had it been the other way around instant national hysteria.
What an interesting thing to take from this article.
Interesting...
and accurate.
I was being sarcastic.
I don't understand. Is skin color important or not? Every time it isn't mentioned, someone says something. I guess every time it is mentioned, someone says something as well. People should just stop writing news articles I guess.
Just rolling with the narrative.
In its 2016 platform calling for deadly force against semites, herbs and plants the Republican party wrote: We dedicate this platform with admiration and gratitude To all who stand strong in the face of danger, So that the American people may be protected against it ? The men and women of our military, of our law enforcement, and the first responders of every community in our land ?And to their families. The result is as in Jefferson's 1776 declaration, murderers-by-law encouraged with impunity, much like another Waffen SS.
But don't blame me... I'm Libertarian and I VOTE!
"I'm just lucky to be alive. So many people died because of cases like this."
This was a smart thing to say.
Why not overcharge? Instead of booking him for first degree assault, charge him with attempted murder.
He was indicted on three-degree assault charges, not first - first degree assault involves a weapon, and being really, really mean.
You want to see mean?
Can you imagine a gang of angry anarchists, all on the juice, cornering some "hero"?
He had a weapon in both cases. The threat of the potential use of the weapon is always implied when a cop is assulting someone. But when Officer Thompson tracked down the victim he made an overt threat with his weapon. According to the DA, Thompson confronted him, pointing out the gun in his waistband and asking, "Why are you shitting on my name? Do you know what I'm going to do to you?"
Over harging has a tendency to result in acquittals?
Over charging has a tendency to result in a plea bargains. http://www.prisonerresource.co.....appearing/

Always trying to be edgy and appeal to the millennials leftists, aren't you, TreasonNN (get it?)? Back in my day journalists had respect for their audience, and didn't insert foul, disgusting language into their stories.
My word.
Well there is always the desire to be edgy and appealing.
But when one is describing foul, disgusting behavior, perhaps foul disgusting language is most appropriate.
But I'll attempt a description
Officer Thompson, a violent piece of pond-scum, attempted to assault the victim of his criminal behavior for having the audacity to report it. Brandishing his weapon, he asked, "Why are you shitting on my name? Do you know what I'm going to do to you?" He lacked the mental ability and/or reflection to realize he was the one defaming and defecting on his name.
Better, but still off-putting to my sensibilities.
Do you mean "defecating" on his name?
At least they avoided using the phrase "Whiny Bitch" in the headline...
RE: Coney Island Cop Caught on Video Assaulting Man Over Dropped Drink
"I'm just lucky to be alive. So many people died because of cases like this."
The NYPD cop was right for assaulting this violent and vicious miscreant. Plastic cups have been known to murder, rape, rob and sell our nuclear missile secrets to our enemies if the cups are not placed in the proper trash receptacle. This is why we have such strict littering laws in our country.
He plead not guilty and is due back in court in November 29.
Looking forward to the acquittal, reinstatement and back pay post on November 30th.
Yep. He'll request a bench trial because, as we all know, no judge ever convicts a cop.
By the way, isn't it "He Pleaded not guilty"?
And if you use the frowned-upon 'plead' not guilty, I believe it's 'Pled'' not guilty.
Now eat your vegetables and sit up straight.
Cop assaulting an annoying commoner is ordinary. Cop intimidating a witness and obstructing justice is common. Cop sent home without pay is absolutely astonishing. I'm amazed that a New York City cop wasn't awarded the traditional anti-punishment for government workers of paid administrative leave. I would expect him to be forced to accept full pay and benefits while chilling out for a year or two while his brother cops do a thorough investigation before they exonerate him.
Let's see if there is a prosecutor foolish enough to take the case. Maybe they've got an ADA who's ready to retire and doesn't mind living the rest of his life in the cross-hairs of a SWAT sniper. Cops do not take well to being held accountable. Justice and accountability are for us commoners, not for the elite defenders of the realm.
As someone else already predicted, the likely outcome is summary dismissal and reinstatement with back pay and benefits. We wouldn't want one our boys in blue to lose any seniority. It's bad enough that he'll lose some overtime.
