Brickbat: Getting Their Attention

Heather Lindsay and Lexene Charles say the racial slur scrawled on their garage door in Stamford, Connecticut, isn't the first time their home has been vandalized. They say police haven't taken that vandalism seriously, so they have vowed not to remove the graffiti until cops properly investigate the matter. City officials have responded by slapping them with a blight citation, which carries a $100 a day fine until the couple removes the slur.

"By using the vandalized door as a backstop during LEO target practice, the offending graffiti could be obliterated in a matter of weeks, providing the officers stood close enough."
what slur was used? "STUPID"?
It might as well have been "HOAXERS".
RTFA! Picture clearly shows "NI66P."
yeah, NIGGP = STUPID...qed
Why not get rid of the graffiti, then put up a little GoPro camera in the bushes so when it happens again, you can see who did it? (the story said this has happened on multiple occasions)
On top of that, it's WORDS. It says more about the people who did it than the homeowners (always assuming the two groups aren't the same people)
Jeez people, grow up. What kind of inbred moron spray paints a slur on someone's house? On the other hand, what kind of person attempts to make a nationwide cause du jour when an idiot spray paints something stupid on their house.
...as an aside, isn't it strange that these things always seem to happen in deep blue areas (Connecticut, in this instance).
I guess Democrats are still just as racist as they were in the 1950's. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Perhaps it was a false flag to further a narrative. It wouldn't be surprising anymore.
Or it could just be someone who is bored (read:teenager) doing something stupid to get a rise out of people or impress his friends.
I think the article's point was less about faux outrage and more about the authoritarian response of the police to fine someone because they were trying to force the police to investigate something.

Dear Reason, here's a suggestion for your next brickbat:
"The charity Alcohol Focus Scotland has today called on the Scottish government to ban alcohol advertising in all outdoor places and on television before 11pm. It wants a ban on alcohol adverts in all newspapers and magazines ? except for 'publications aimed at adults' ? and a ban on alcohol companies sponsoring all sporting, musical and cultural events.
"The charade works like this. The government finds (or creates) a charity, lavishes it with taxpayers' money and encourages it to lobby for taxes and regulation. After a few years of astro-turf campaigning by state-funded activists, the government passes laws which punish, stigmatise and exploit its citizens while claiming to be capitulating to the demands of civil society."

So much for the first amendment.
Suppose the graffiti was "liberal" instead. What then?
I smell another one of those hoaxes.
This seems like political speech. Not blight.
speaking truth to power?
