  • In Seattle, 23-year-old Daniel Ramirez Medina—twice-authorized under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program but arrested by immigration agents last week—has filed a lawsuit accusing the government of falsely asserting that Medina belonged to a gang in order to place him in the gang unit of Tacoma's Northwest Detention Center.

  • "Today, we make clear, in Florida, any law that implicates the fundamental right of privacy, regardless of the activity, is subject to strict scrutiny and is presumptively unconstitutional," said the state's Supreme Court in a ruling blocking a requirement that women see a doctor twice before getting an abortion.

He's already talked to the Russkies too.

      Hello.

"Former U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair urged anti-Brexit Britons to "rise up in defense of what we believe."

And what we believe in is democracy some of the time!

      1. WTF   10 years ago

Democracy only until they get the result they want.

        1. John DeWitt   10 years ago

It reminds me of playing Civilization as a kid. If I attacked with one of my military units and it died, I kept reloading until I won.

Sounds like an opportunity for Trump to get rid of the entire National Security system, if he can't have an adviser how can it exist

Just think of the $ trillions the taxpayers will be saved and the massive reduction in fake news stories. Its a win/win

      1. John Titor   10 years ago

Yeah, I don't know how well Blair's comments are going to go over with the British left, who view him as a war criminal.

  6. WTF   10 years ago

"Today, we make clear, in Florida, any law that implicates the fundamental right of privacy, regardless of the activity, is subject to strict scrutiny and is presumptively unconstitutional," said the state's Supreme Court in a ruling blocking a requirement that women see a doctor twice before getting an abortion.

So, background checks and licenses for guns also unconstitutional?

    1. sarcasmic   10 years ago

Of course not. Privacy, like Choice, only applies to what women do with unwanted growths in their uteri.

      1. juris imprudent   10 years ago

The back pedalling on that should be spectacular. And when the court retreats from the ground it just staked out it should be burned to the ground.

*Any* law? Now, *that* is funny!

That's either really brilliant, or just completely lacking in self-awareness. Given it's Florida, I'd bet on the latter.

    2. CatoTheChipper   10 years ago

So I don't have to file a Form 1040 this April?

      1. prolefeed   10 years ago

Well, Florida officials won't throw you in prison if you don't file. The IRS, however ...

    3. Brochettaward   10 years ago

Hey now! Strict scrutiny was applied to all those other laws that violate your privacy, and it was simply found that there were really really important reasons for doing it, Mr.!

I have no idea. As I understand it, in some places where one party completely dominates, the primary is where the real action happens.

Bad news from Fannie Mae, providing more proof that government-run businesses are a great idea and the free market sucks. Without Fannie and Freddy, people who can't afford to buy homes can't afford to buy homes.

But there is more, the people who can't afford homes get stuck with a mortgage they can't afford, and a house which keeps them in an area they can't afford, they end up with bad credit rating which helps keep them poor and not able to afford anything, except what they get from the taxpayers in the form of welfare, food stamps, housing benefits, which cost the taxpayer which makes them poorer and the cycle continues.

Liberal hack goes on incoherent tirade about Trump press conference.

From what I can tell, Friedman's grievances are as follows:
-Wikileaks hacking and releasing the DNC emails was equivalent to Pearl Harbor and 9/11 (probably put together, but he didn't quite go that far)
-Trump is not belligerent enough toward other world powers, does not sufficiently rattle his sabre at Russia
-Trump hurt Jim Acosta's feelings, which is an assault on the First Amendment

The press keeps going on and on about how they are going to be a check on executive overreach in the next 4 (or from the way things are already shaping up, 8) years, but they don't seem to remember how to do their jobs. Taking an eight-year vacation will dull anyone's skills, I guess. If you want to be taken seriously, you must start behaving in a serious manner. Comparing Trump's election to Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 is not a good way to start.

    1. straffinrun   10 years ago

I guess noone gets laid in Japan.

As couples around the world prepare to celebrate their love on Valentine's Day, Japan is grappling with more evidence that its citizens have lost the spark in the bedroom.
A new survey by the Japan family planning association found that nearly half of married couples had not had sex for more than a month and did not expect that to change in the near future ? the association's definition of a "sexless" marriage.
The data on married couples were among the findings of a wider survey of 3,000 people aged between 16 and 49 conducted at the end of last year. The association received responses from more than 1,200 people, including 655 married men and women.
A record high 47.2% of married men and women said they were in sexless marriages, up 2.6 percentage points from the previous poll in 2014, the association said, and significantly higher than the 31.9% recorded when it conducted its first survey of the nation's bedroom habits in 2004.

    Black Guns Matter

A Pro-gun campaigner is claiming he can cut inner-city violence in cities like Chicago - by giving people greater access to legal firearms and knowledge.

Maj Toure is the founder of Black Guns Matter, a pro-gun organisation that aims to educate urban populations about their Second Amendment rights.
He believes that years of prejudice have convinced people living in cities to associate guns with crime rather than defending themselves, their communities and their rights.

Here's how Christine Hauser of NY Times related the Russian spy ship remarks:

"Mr. Trump himself referred to the ship at a marathon news conference on Thursday, saying that his critics probably think "the greatest thing I could do is shoot that ship that's 30 miles offshore right out of the water. Everyone in this country's going to say, 'Oh, it's so great.' That's not great. That's not great."

A bit different spin put on it by the Associated Press White House correspondent Julie Pace:
"He said the 'greatest thing' he could do was 'shoot' a Russian spy ship lingering off the East Coast of the United States."

I guess AP is committed to making Trump look like a dangerous maniac.

    2. John   10 years ago

Community college is already pretty cheap for in state students. If you are poor and can get aid, it can be virtually free. If you are middle class or rich, it is going to cost. So yeah, getting rid of tuition is going to benefit the middle class and wealthy.

The same people who are surprised by this, couldn't see the naked self interest in rich people supporting Bernie's "free college for everyone" program.

Wallace: My total earnings for first month was very low... Just little over $250, but it was then when I realized this is the real deal and not yet another scam you see all over the internet! There are no words to describe the feeling you get when your first paycheck arrives and what excitement I felt at that moment realizing that making money from home is in fact very possible. After my first month I dedicated more time and put more effort in working this and my second month was already much more better (2nd paycheck I got was for $990)... Now, 6 months later, I am earning just over $2500 a month . I am a little slow with my work and I am not that good with computers and that's why I think a younger person could be able to earn much much more than this.

He has to capitalize on whatever he has left, and he can't afford to admit ? no matter how often he's reminded of it ? that every day of his life takes him farther and farther down a blind alley... Very few toads in this world are Prince Charmings in disguise. Most are simply toads... and they are going to stay that way... Toads don't make laws or change any basic structures, but one or two rooty insights can work powerful changes in the way they get through life."

So, yeah. I had pretty high hopes for this year, but seriously, I'm just going to pre-emptively say Fuck 2017 already.

I'm not in favor of any law that forces people to go to a doctor for any reason, but what the fuck does this have to do with privacy? If this violates a fundamental right to privacy then just about any government mandate violates the right to privacy too and should be struck down just like this one.
