Trump Voters Were Four Times Less Likely To Be 'Enthusiastic' About Federal Government
Trump voters were also drastically less likely than Clinton voters to say the government should do more.

Here's an interesting tidbit about Donald Trump voters that I just noticed in CNN exit-polling data: Trump voters make up just 20 percent of those who described themselves as "enthusiastic" about the federal government, while 78 percent of voters who said this were Hillary Clinton supporters. Trump voters also accounted for just one-fifth of those who are "satisfied" with the federal government.
But when it comes to those "dissatisfied" with the federal government, Trump voters slightly edged out Clinton voters (49 percent to 45 percent). And Trump voters made up more than three-quarters of those who said they were "angry" at the federal government, with Clinton voters accounting for just 18 percent of this group.
People who cast a ballot for Trump were also drastically less like than Clinton voters to say the federal government should do more. Among this big-gov promoting group, 74 percent were Clinton voters and 22 percent were Trump voters. Those who said the government was doing too much included 21 percent Clinton voters and 73 percent Trump voters.

Christ, that's a confusing graphic. How am I supposed to read that - "5% of the respondents were enthusiastic about the federal government and, of those, 78% were Clinton voters"? So, 3.9% of Clinton voters are enthusiastic about the federal government?
Well, in Trump's America confusing graphics should be expected.
In Hillary's America confusing graphics would have been the norm too.
The number of people enthusiastic about government is not significantly different from 0.
Just read every cell as % of respondents who meet both conditions. The left column should have a heading of "all" or "total" or "combined", and the labels of the rows broken out separately, but I'd've thought most readers would understand that. The columns don't add to 100% because the row categories were not exclusive; respondents weren't asked to pick 1, but just yes/no to each, so you'd expect those who were angry to also be dissatisfied. I get that all from my reading of the table w/o reading the source, but I guess it's not as transparent to all as it looks to me.
The leftmost columns was the answer to the multiple choice question.
The columns to the right were the breakdown of affiliations of that particular answer's population.
ie 5% answered "Enthusiastic" of which 78% voted Clinton, 20% voted Trump and 2% someone else or refused to answer.
At least 77% of H&R readers are dissatisfied with this graphic.
Could be 69.8%
I thought it was pretty easy to read, but the labels should've been in their own column at the left, and a label on the Clinton-Trump row to the left of both should say "all", "combined", or some such. Each cell is a yes/no on the % of those who satisfy both conditions (row & column). So of those enthusiastic about fedgov, 78% were Clinton voters. Columns don't add to 100% because respondents weren't given a choice of 4 to pick from, but yes/no to each, so you could expect those satisfied w fedgov to also be enthusiastic about it, and those angry w it to also be dissatisfied by it.
3.9% == 78% of 5% == Number of voters who were enthusiastic about Gov and voted for Killary
Tilt your head.
And cough?
They shouldn't have voted from Trump then.
Polls. Only good for single mothers. Or cleaning British toilets. Or losing entire expeditions to the grinding ice.
Hmm. I'm starting to like these Trump supporters.
Commenting is borked and they brought back side-swiping between articles on mobile. This result is Trump's America now.
This TRULY is
Last week I was blaming everything on "The Russians." I guess now it will be "Well, in Trump's America..."
Same difference, though.
Libertarian Moment?
*flees whilst cackling*
If jobs and healthcare improves dramatically over the next four years, I might jolly well vote for President Orange next time.
LIBERTARIAPOCALYPSE.
You mean actual differences in ideological beliefs in the proper role of government had something to do with the election?
Heresy!
Everyone knows it was all about racism and sexism and nothing but that.
Just ask any of the leftists who have been in incessant screech mode for the last two days. They'll tell ya.
The only reason that Trump voters were dissatisfied with government was that a black man was in charge of it.
It's as simple as that ... to a progressive.
Is it just me or is the concept of "X times less" flawed? Shouldn't it be 1/4 as much or something? Is 2 ten times less than 20? Is that how it works?
http://timesless.com/
"1/4th as likey" is shorter and clearer than "4 times less likely". However, "short" and "clear" are not characteristics that most professional writers give a damn about.
20 is one time less than 20.
On Topic. 46.9% of eligible voters did not vote.
Almost half of the population voted against having a Government.
Libertarian Moment !!!!!!!
=D
This guy gets it.
My non-vote was a vote against having twitter
And how can 75% of Clinton voters be satisfied while 45% of them are dissatisfied?
I believe that's 75% of 24% = 18% of Clinton voters are satisfied. That's a terrible graphic.
You're misreading the table. 45% of all voters are dissatisfied. Of those, 46% voted for Clinton.
And only 5% of voters were enthusiastic about government, which seems a little high to me.
Apparently 2% refused to answer because the first column doesn't add to 100%.
Yes to that 2%, or could be a result of rounding. And you got 45% & 46% reversed, but otherwise you're reading the table right.
Who reads the tables?
FAGGITZ.
BECAUSE CLINTON VOTERS ARE DISHONEST WITH MATH.

This was the only real failure of Libertarians this election cycle. Its a shame that the Sanders/Warrens/Occupy are the main persistent voices against elitist cronyism/capture. Because their policy solutions obviously suck - and when they fail politically, that just leaves a vacuum for a guy like Trump.
Liberty has always been more appealing to those at the bottom. Those are precisely the folks who are most likely to be trapped by something that is outside their control and for them liberty can be seen in very practical terms. Any philosophy that tries instead to sell the idea to those who are already successful and sell the narrative that those at the bottom are just leeches and moochers is just gonna be seen as a shill.
There is a danger when Libertarianism tries to go populist. But its also the real opportunity.
Sanders et al are not against elitist crony/capture. They're only having hissy fits that they aren't at the top of the elitist food chain.
But my point is that Libertarians shouldn't be arguing about whether Sanders is REALLY against elitist capture. We should be out there riling up the crowds. Competing in the market of ideas - on that issue - in front of that audience - with the Sanders/etc who are doing that.

Damn squirrles !!!
Jesus Christ commenting has been pretty broken the last couple of days.
Gearing up for the annual donation drive, I guess.
If I had money to donate, this would guarantee that I dont.
"Donate to this magazine or the comments section gets it" kind of strategy, I guess.
I would imagine the johnson voters were even less enthusiastic about the federal government. They would have had to add another box entitled, fuck them all with a rusty chainsaw.
As bad as the infographic is, this would totally fuck it up. Fractional percentages and 'N/A' boxes... not to mention the fact that they'd have to add a whole new "I'm open to different ideas." class somewhere between 'satisfied' and 'dissatisfied'.
The Johnson/Weld ticket sounded like "We hate the idea of expanding government but we're too chicken-shit to roll anything back." Not exactly inspiring the protest vote.
Trump supporters: "Keep your government hands off my medicare!"
It's true. It should be privatized.
Squirrels may not be as harmless as they appear
That sounds analogous to something.
"4 time less likely" Really? Try 0.75 times less likely.
You mean 0.25 times less likely.
Republicans don't like the federal government. News at 11.
90% of the game is 50% mental
Same old story from the GOP: the voters claim they want less government and lower spending, except for their entitlements of course, and the party rolls out a nominee who will only live up to the "not touching entitlements" thing. But at least the left-wing media freakout is still going to be satisfying for a little while longer

A lot of conservatives ronanticize about smaller government until you start talking about ending the drug war, eliminating unemployment, shrinking the military, cutting SS payouts, etc. It sounds good to them until they are actually pressed on what to cut.
How does one explain the 18% of Hillary voters who are angry with the federal government? Are these proggies/SJWs who want it to lock up anyone who drives an SUV and execute bank and oil company CEOs, or are these the NeverTrumpers who crossed over?
They're angry at those damn obstructionist rethukkkians, of course. Not those wise Solons with the D after their name.
They're angry at those damn obstructionist RethugliKKKans, of course. Not those wise Solons with the 'D' after their names.
I've had it with these muthafuckin' squirrels, on these muthafuckin' boards!
"Other" only got 2% of the enthusiastic.
