Anonymous sources connected to the FBI say other anonymous sources connected to the FBI are leaking information about Hillary Clinton because they dislike her intensely and that the agency is "Trumpland." Other anonymous sources connected to the FBI disagree.

  • Election coverage is almost all horse race all the time now.
  • The State Department has released a new batch of Clinton emails, 1,280 pages of them.
  • Police don't know the motives of the Iowa man who ambushed and killed two police officers in Des Moines. His background is kind of a sad-sack story of low-level police confrontations and strange incidents, including a confrontation over waving a confederate flag at a school football game and possibly bouts of depression.
  • An online fundraising campaign to rebuild a Mississippi church that was set on fire and vandalized with a "Vote Trump" message has been very successful, bringing in $170,000.
  • Twitter has started to remove fake campaign ads that were telling people that they could vote for Clinton via texts.
  • Donald Trump and Clinton have been largely silent during the campaign about what they will do about our military presence in Afghanistan.
  • Vladimir Putin has granted actor Steven Seagal Russian citizenship.

    4. Ranjit Singh, Author   9 years ago

      She's Dear Leader.

Once she's in office, there'll be hell to pay, starting with Comey's resignation.

      1. TheZeitgeist   9 years ago

I would assume Comey will be canned day after election - if Hillary wins. There will be cleaning-house borne of revenge by current management for such flagrant attempt at sabotaging the succession.

This also keeps all the illegalities of such a spectacle silo'ed in the current administration for pardoning later.

        1. Bob K   9 years ago

I think it all depends on whether the Repubs keep control of the Senate. Comey is a hack that she can manipulate and corrupt and who is a already been tainted by her. If she can't just hand pick her successor then she may calculate it is better to have him in then out.

          1. TheZeitgeist   9 years ago

I don't know. Axing Comey would be part of a broader 'fix' for FBI, and anyone can just be 'interim' FBI director.

Sounds like senior staff there have stood and been counted lately, so Hill has good line on whoever the apparatchik needs to be.

            1. Entropy Drehmaschine Void   9 years ago

Donna Brazile for 'interim' FBI director.

              John Podesta?

        2. R C Dean   9 years ago

I don't think Comey can be fired. I thought FBI directors got ten year appointments.

          1. kbolino   9 years ago

Clinton fired Sessions in 1993. The upper limit is 10 years (but Comey's predecessor got an extension from Congress), but they can be removed like any other appointee before then.

        3. C. S. P. Schofield   9 years ago

Ya think maybe the FBI has noticed that the people who are fired right after the ones who try to expose a Clinton cover-up are usually the ones who participated?

    5. Juvenile Bluster   9 years ago

      Good afternoon cheater.

Is it a crazy conspiracy theory to believe that the reported polls are getting closer because the Clinton campaign saw people saying "She's going to win anyways, so I don't have to hold my nose and vote for her" and wanted to give them a reason to vote?

      1. PurityDiluting   9 years ago

So run up a big lead to discourage the faithful of the opponent, then show the polls getting tighter to prevent your own faithful from being too lazy? That would require the media to focus on things like horse race polls instead of state-by-state polls, or to report polls that use faulty methodologies but otherwise fit your spin.

      2. SIV   9 years ago

The race is getting closer as Libertarian Party supporters emerge from their cannabis fog and realizing how wretchedly awful GayJay/Weld is they abandon their failed candidate in droves, clamoring aboard the MAGA train as it rolls out of the station.

Yeah, because lots of people thought that Johnson was actually going to win.

What are you going to do after the election when you don't have this particular hobby horse to flog anymore?

            1. Azathoth!!   9 years ago

Nah, he'll have a permanent Secret Service detail after the election--they always do that with the president-elect.

So Johnson voters won't be able to rob him........though I'm not sure why you'd think they would..............?

      3. Hank Phillips   9 years ago

Just turn of the teevee. That fixes it.

      4. Hank Phillips   9 years ago

If you READ the anti-libertarian changes to the tax code Nixon signed within a day of the LP becoming a thing, in black and white it pays the media to ignore and dismiss small, law-changing parties. There is even a "graduated" scale, like the Communist Manifesto income tax, to make sure that even with a 15% slice of the vote a non-Kleptocracy party gets tossed just a few corrupting crumbs.
Nothing could be more karmic than for the LP to hit 9%, elect 4 to Congress and the looters wrestle over votes like in Y2k with The Antichoice getting the worst of it!

  2. rts   9 years ago

I was sure I woke up today in Bizarro land or shifted in quantum realities when I read this on the CBC site from Neil Macdonald, no less:

Free and timely health care for all is fiction

Usually, Canada's elected leaders at least publicly play along with the fiction that every Canadian receives proper treatment, free of charge, in a timely manner.

This has been the social compact in Canada for more than half a century: our governments tax everything that moves, and even tax each other's taxes, but in return, our medical needs are seen to free of charge, never mind some budget imposed on the hospital.

In reality, that's nonsense, in almost every respect. Not the tax-everything bit, but all the rest.

The comments, as you might expect, are a vein of derp extending right to the heart of Mount Derp, where the Arkenderp is sure to be found.

    1. Pan Zagloba   9 years ago

Curse you, I was gonna post that!

He does repeat the Credo at the end:

And anyway, says DiMatteo, so what if people have to get used to paying more out of pocket? The boomers are also the richest generation in human history, and as he points out, people who scream about paying for their own health care accept big veterinarian bills for their pets without a peep.

True, perhaps, but pity the unfortunates who actually can't afford any private care, and trustingly believed they'd never need to.

Still, it's amazing that CBC would publish something like that. Even more that he is capable of noticing something obvious and not making a conclusion that's 180 degrees opposite from where the data points.

      1. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

For two weeks we and our family doctor couldn't reach the specialist dealing with my father's file related to possible colon cancer. Such and impressive and responsive system we have up here and your asshole progressives want this shit?

        1. But Enough About Me   9 years ago

          Two weeks?

          Pshaw! Amateur hour!

I just recently received the go-ahead for an "urgent" MRI for a problem I'm having with my foot. The date for this diagnostic, which becomes the key to receiving care (because without it, no-one will do anything for me)?

June 19th, 2018, Peace Arch Hospital. That's right, almost 20 months from now.

Oh, and they've helpfully put me on a "waiting list" in case there's a cancellation. That's right, I'm on a waiting list that is itself part of another waiting list.

          Kafka would be proud.

Fortunately, I have the option of getting a private MRI (something that's not possible throughout most of Canada). The cost? $795.00 all-in. They take Visa, Mastercard, AMEX and debit. The wait time?

Usually they can see you the same day if you walk in or phone prior to noon.

Guess which option I'll be using?

          1. Rufus The Monocled   9 years ago

Oh I know it's much worse than that and the only reason why we got a response is because my mother is ruthless and our doctor was persistent.

I know someone who was got in a bureaucratic nightmare for her MS. The provincial government wanted certain documents in by a certain date in order to qualify to get her pills but she needed a signed document from her doctor who she could not reach for weeks. She had to drive all the way to the hospital to get it. And it's not like they give a shit or apologize. They just act like 'fuck you too bad'.

The system is anti-human and has no incentive to act civil or professional.

          2. R C Dean   9 years ago

That's a pretty good price for an MRI. Does that include the radiologist read?

            1. But Enough About Me   9 years ago

Yep. Plus they give both you and the specialist the same report including the fancy-schmancy scans on a DVD.

              1. But Enough About Me   9 years ago

Oh, shoulda added: that also includes the cost of contrast-enhancing injections. If you don't need 'em, it's $150.00 less.

                1. R C Dean   9 years ago

Make damn sure you need contrast. Those injections are no joke, and have their risks.

                  1. But Enough About Me   9 years ago

Yeah, a gadolinium cocktail isn't what I normally have in mind when someone offers me a cocktail.

        2. gaoxiaen   9 years ago

They have this new thing called the computer here in Taiwan. I see my own X-ray result in minutes and watch the doctor as he types in my medical record. They even talk to you like you're a person, while seeing many more patients per day. Doctors here actually work. Imagine that.

          1. gaoxiaen   9 years ago

              /me too

    2. gaoxiaen   9 years ago

Cheap and timely is possible, like it's done here in Taiwan. It's also a subsidy to business, employers do no paperwork, and it helps with labor mobility. In America, the doctors' labor union, the AMA, makes sure that the medical cartel members rake in the bucks. US medical care should be a free market or regulated as a public utility. At a minimum, pharmacists should be permitted to prescribe.

    1. Pan Zagloba   9 years ago

Yeah, but how can it be Trump said nothing stupid in days? If he keeps that up, they'll have to cover it like every other election (poll, poll, discussion on what the polls mean, breaking - new poll).

That wall of snow reminds me of the winter of '73 when I arrived in Edmonton on a December day after having driven cross-country in a Datsun 510. The sidewalks were literally ditches of snow with 8 foot high walls. Didn't actually manage to fully orient myself to the city until the spring when all the damn snow finally melted and I could see further than 50 feet or so.

"Gary's Presidential Campaign!" I cried, rushing over to where it lay. It clutched the bullet wound in its side and coughed feebly. I cradled it in my arms.

"It's alright, buddy. We're gonna make it through this. Just five more days and it's over!" I said.

Gary's Presidential Campaign shook its head with a sad smile. "No my friend, I'm afraid this is the end for me. But it's not so bad, I had a good run. Remember all the fun times we had?"

"Uh, yes?" I said, struggling to think of an example.

The campaign coughed again, peppering its suit jacket and t-shirt with blood. It clutched my arm and leaned forward to whisper: "Two parts compulsive liar, steeped in conspiracies and sex scandals. One part ex-Massachusetts governor. One part cheap Russian vodka. Shake well, then add a dash of salty tears. The perfect . . . Squandered Opportunity."

With one last shudder, Gary's Presidential Campaign closed its eyes and passed from this world. Tears blurring my vision, I reached for my cocktail-making supplies.

Protecting False Creek from rising sea levels will cost Vancouver

City staff have reported that barriers and other infrastructure could cost hundreds of millions of dollars. They found one piece of barrier infrastructure to protect low-lying False Creek could cost up to $800 million.

At yesterday's council meeting, Mayor Gregor Robertson asked city staff to look into whether legal action against major polluters could generate revenue for these infrastructure projects.

BleachBit Trolls Hillary With "Cloth or Something" Server Wipe

The data-deleting software known as BleachBit, made famous by the Clinton team's use of it to scrub emails from the former secretary of state's private email server, is now selling special "cloths" featuring the Democratic nominee herself.
The item is called the "Cloth or Something" ? a reference to an Aug. 18 2015, response Clinton gave when asked if she had wiped her private email server. "What, like with a cloth or something?" Clinton quipped, making a scrubbing motion with her hand.

How to Delete Secret Emails from Microsoft Exchange Server

Do you have private, secret, or confidential emails on your Microsoft Exchange server that you do not want someone else to see? One user of BleachBit seems to have mixed success with this task: on one hand some emails have been found, and on the other emails were deleted "so that even God could not read them."

To maximize the destruction of sensitive information you must physically destroy all storage devices that may have stored the information. Examples of physical destruction include thorough magnet degaussing followed by use of a hammer and blow torch, or just give it to a young child.

There are some scenarios where physical destruction is not possible or desirable such as: there are some emails you want to keep about yoga and wedding plans, you do not want to reinstall software, or you want to make it less obvious that you removed any information.

      1. tarran   9 years ago

Assuming physical destruction is not possible, follow this guide to improve your results:
        1. Shut the doors and curtains, and turn on loud music.
        2. Using an email client such as a Blackberry smartphone delete the confidential emails. From the trash too.
        3. PROTIP: After you think you are done deleting emails, double check. Do a search for the keywords classified, secret, and Benghazi and the top-level-domains .gov and .mil.
        ...
11 Do likewise on all remote email servers for all emails sent. For example if you sent emails to someone at state.gov, then you need to clean that email server too.

Because you probably do not have access to other people's email servers, the last step is the most difficult. It depends who you know.

Consult your Microsoft Exchange administrator for help. PROTIP: Consider what kind of witness would this person make.

Next time consider if you do not want someone to see private information, do not record it in the first place, and play by the rules.

I'd like it to be good, I really would. But WB doesn't inspire confidence, and the use of slow-motion makes me think Zach Snyder's dirty fingerprints will be all over it. Also, the WW uniform seems out of place for the WW1 setting. Reminds of me of the feel of Thor, and that's not a good compliment.

    So reading the tea leaves:

Michelle Obama goes out to stump for Clinton a week ago, and Barack worries out loud that blacks may not turn out for Clinton.

Google News brings me headlines from three different news organizations today analyzing how Trump gets enough Electoral College votes to take the election.

The Iowa Election Market shows Hillary's price crashing over just a few days. Trump and Clinton are on a path to trading at equal prices within a day or two.

        1. Joe M   9 years ago

She doesn't need it. It's all about North Carolina and Florida. If she wins either of those, Trump has no path.

          1. Tumulus   9 years ago

True. From combing through FiveThirtyEight and RCP, it looks like FL, NC, NH and NV are the only states really in doubt. She needs any one of them, while he needs all four. However, the projections have them tied in FL, NC and NV at the moment. She's ahead slightly in NH; he's going to campaign there on Monday.

Johnson is projected to get way more than the D/R difference in all four. (What Gillespie calls "beating the spread" although that means something else.) Stein probably will receive more than the difference in those states, too.

        2. Red Rocks Dickin Bimbos   9 years ago

Yeah, I'll be shocked if Iowa goes to Clinton at this point. It looks like a lot of the "independents" are now picking sides and trending more towards Trump than Clinton. It's going to be a lot closer than people expected, at least in the popular vote, especially because the black vote appears to have completely collapsed unless they're all waiting to go on election day.

Rasmussen Utah: 42% Trump, Clinto 31%, McMullin 21%

A new Heat Street/Rasmussen Reports telephone and online survey of Likely Utah Voters finds Trump with 42% support to Democrat Hillary Clinton's 31%. Republican-turned-Independent candidate Evan McMullin has faded to 21%. Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson earns three percent (3%) of the vote. Two percent (2%) like some other candidate in the race, and another two percent (2%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Last week, it was Trump 32%, McMullin 29%, Clinton 28%. The week before that, Trump held a negligible 30% lead over McMullin (29%) and Clinton (28%).

Man downs 4 or 5 energy drinks a day, turns yellow

For three weeks, a construction worker drank four or five energy drinks per day to help keep up with his intense workload. Then his body went haywire.

In a bizarre case Florida doctors describe in the British Medical Journal, the 50-year-old man started gulping down energy drinks on the job but suddenly began vomiting after about three weeks. Soon, his skin turned yellow, but it wasn't the caffeine or even the sugar that was the problem.

At a hospital, the man showed signs of liver damage, and a biopsy confirmed he had acute hepatitis, believed to have been brought on by high intake of vitamin B3, or niacin, found in his energy drink of choice. (It wasn't named.) Each bottle had about 200% of the daily recommended dose, reports Gizmodo.

    Speaking of hacking...

Remember the head of IPCC who was targeted for elimination by nefarious fossil fuel interests? The one whose phone and computer they hacked to send sexually charged, offensive and disgusting texts and emails that painted him as a rapey sexual harasser?

Well, it turns out that he might have been telling a porkie.

FSL's report, reviewed by ET, says "no suspected or unusual activity was observed" in Pachauri's electronic devices.

Delhi Police had asked FSL "if any spyware/malware or keylogger" (a type of surveillance software) was found in Pachauri's electronic devices. It had also asked "whether devices have been hacked or not?"

FSL concludes that Pachauri's electronic devices were not hacked or interfered with in any manner. FSL's report also says the devices were not infected with any software that could have compromised their security. A top Delhi Police investigator familiar with the case told ET the police wanted to rule out even a "speck of doubt" that Pachauri's electronic devices were hacked or compromised in any manner, and that's why FSL was asked to examine so many possibilities. He also said the police wanted to leave nothing that could invite "wishful misinterpretation".

I don't buy into the notion of rape culture. I think it requires some wide-ranging duplicity that doesn't exist in the general public. However, if there is a rape culture, she is the living, breathing embodiment of it.

If any other wife worked with their husband in any other industry and he was known to be a rapist and discovered to be a philanderer, she would either have to shed him to remain viable in the industry or find an entirely different industry to work in. She is actively working, while standing next to him, to downplay any/all of his misdeeds against women in an effort to cement *his* legacy.

What does it say about your priorities as a woman and a representative of your gender that you can't leave a man who's notorious for abusing women and cheating on you because of the politics involved? She may as well have curlers in, flip flops on, smoking a cigarette and gesturing wildly with a half-full beer can about how she can't leave him because it's... well, it's complicated while assuring us that he really is a good man underneath.

But it proves that even a lecherous sleazebag like Bill Clinton can be elected to two terms as president. It shows that it doesn't seem to matter and that Trump's proclivities shouldn't be a reason to not vote for him. There are plenty of other reasons, but the whole womanizing part is no biggie.

Kim Davis tries to wiggle out of paying legal fines after losing marriage battle

A county clerk in Kentucky who refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples last year is asking a federal judge not to make her pay legal fees for the couples who sued her.

    1. The Fusionist   9 years ago

If we had Loser Pays, whereby the losing party has to pay the legal expenses of the winning party, maybe the laws would make sense. But IIRC only a victorious *plaintiff,* not a victorious *defendant,* has to pay legal fees in these "civil rights" cases. Heads I win, tails you lose.

And also: "Roger K. Gannam of Liberty Counsel, the religious advocacy organization that represented Davis, wrote that the case was resolved in the legislature and the couples aren't entitled to legal fees."

A winning plaintiff is entitled to legal fees if it *wins in court,* not if an act of the legislature makes the case moot, which is what seems to have happened here. The Kentucky legislature pre-empted the ongoing suit by taking county clerks' names off marriage licenses and making clear that they're not responsible for licenses issued by their deputies.

The plaintiffs got their piece of paper, they simply want to rub Davis' face in the dirt because she resisted having her name on the paper.

Fighting to have the name of a "homophobic" public official on your Special Marriage Document is...perverse.

Why Tesla's new solar roof tiles and home battery are such a big deal

Tesla's solar tiles claim to be able to power a standard home, and provide spare power via the new Powerwall 2 battery in case of inclement weather or other outages. But Musk's claims about the new benefits of the new solutions don't end there.

Move over Spice, Bath Salts are a wash.... Today we have the new Synthetic Drug Scare = "Pink"

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) ? Toxicology tests confirm two 13-year-old boys in the Utah ski-resort town of Park City overdosed on a new synthetic drug that is available online and was also found at the estate of entertainer Prince after he died, police said Thursday.

Ryan Ainsworth and Grant Seaver died of acute intoxication of a drug called U-47700, sometimes known as "pink," Park City Police Chief Wade Carpenter said in a statement, citing results from the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office.

It's among a new generation of opioid drugs being synthesized in labs overseas and is too new as a recreational drug to be listed as illegal.

The drug got to Park City after other local teens ordered it from China, according to search warrants.

The drug can be easily bought online for about $40, Carpenter has said. Like many synthetic opioids, the exact effects of U-47700 are little understood and a small amount could be fatal, especially if it's laced with another drug, according to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

    1. waffles   9 years ago

LAS VEGAS (AP) ? A Las Vegas man who was allowed to use makeup to cover his neo-Nazi tattoos during his robbery trial and conviction in in August will not get to hide them during his upcoming murder trial punishable by the death penalty, a judge has ruled.

Clark County District Court Judge Michelle Leavitt last week denied a defense lawyer's request to order makeup for Bayzle Dylan Morgan, saying she believes fair and impartial jurors can be found who will disregard Morgan's tattoos even if they don't like them, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported (http://bit.ly/2eqk2lq ).

"In some ways, retirement does not mean the same thing to priests as it does to lay people; nor does it mean the same to diocesan priests as it does to religious priests [i.e., members of religious orders]. Priests are ordained to a life of ministry and most continue in ministry at a reduced level during retirement, as long as their health permits. Diocesan priests do not take the vow of poverty that religious priests do and they must provide for their own support in retirement. In fact, diocesan priests are regarded as independent contractors to their diocese and must pay self-employment taxes."

The retired priest is someone this article calls Charlie Hardy.

But in this article, the National Catholic Reporter bemoans the lack of a Catholic presence.

      "They are afraid of women"

Maybe the idea of extending the draft to women and getting them into combat roles isn't too bad of an idea.

      1. The Fusionist   9 years ago

Because all women are like this self-selected group of Kurdish fighters whose mettle may or may not have been tested yet?

        1. waffles   9 years ago

How can we have elite female death squads if we won't give them a chance, sheesh!

My first exposure to SJWs was...oh, musta been 12 years ago, on rpg.net forums. WHYCOME THERE R NO FEMALE SPESS MAREENZ!?!?

            1. John Titor   9 years ago

              Emperor covered this already.

      2. Pan Zagloba   9 years ago

There is some precedent from various wars but never from draft.

Though Red Army did field a large number of women, but mostly as AA gunners, telephone operators and traffic controllers. And, obviously, as "field wives" for various officers, because Stalinist version of feminism.

        1. John Titor   9 years ago

The best argument for having women also being part of the draft is that realistically you want at least every single able bodied man to be able to fight. If those able bodied men's positions are non-combat, you can fill them with women.

    2. Aloysious   9 years ago

Knowing the atrocities Islamic State has carried out against women, Nasrallahpour said the female fighters had made a pact never to allow themselves to be taken captive.

"We always have a bullet ready to use on ourselves in case we are about to be taken prisoner," she said, rolling a Kalashnikov round between her thumb and forefinger.

      Hard core.

Why Is Hillary Clinton So Widely Loved?

    Skipping to the middle:

The people who love Hillary Clinton know that the IT system at the State Department is old and stodgy, nothing like a Blackberry's smooth whirl. Hillary Clinton was used to her Blackberry, and wanted to keep using it when she became secretary of state. Hackers could have broken into her system, which was not as secure as the State Department's. But an exhaustive investigation has found no hacking and no nefarious intent?and intent is what matters above all else. Hillary Clinton has apologized. She made an understandable mistake. She did not commit a crime, and did not intend to commit a crime.

    1. waffles   9 years ago

So she's really just a sweet woman who want what is best for this country. All that hate I sense from her is just my imagination. I really must have been crazy to think that Hillary would ever do anything wrong.

    2. __Warren__   9 years ago

If you're the type of person that "loves" Hillary are you really the type of person that can judge the merits of various communication security protocols?

      1. Pan Zagloba   9 years ago

In that case, you are in fact the only type of person who can judge the merits of various communication security protocols.

    3. Playa Manhattan.   9 years ago

Actually, the FBI has determined that no less than 5 foreign intelligence services gained access to her server.

I guess it wasn't really hacking, though. They just logged right in.

      1. The Fusionist   9 years ago

That server sounds like a real slut.

Intent does not matter as far as the particular statutes are concerned -- sorry, you lose.

    5. R C Dean   9 years ago

Hillary Clinton was used to her Blackberry, and wanted to keep using it when she became secretary of state.

Tough shit. Many employers who traffic in confidential info now require you to use the phone they issue you, which has got all kinds of security crap on it. Telling them "whaa, I wanna use my old phone" will either get you slapped around or fired.

intent is what matters above all else

Not for the espionage act or innumerable regs and policies, all of which she violated.

  66. R C Dean   9 years ago

Trump missed an opportunity on that church fire. Don't know if he could have gone down there in person, but that would have been ideal.

Either way, say that he deplores any form of racial or political violence, regardless of the source, etc., and told them that he would sic his companies on building them a new one, free of charge.

I went through two. When I was an undergrad, I picked up a mid 80s Town Car for $1600. It wasn't bad. One owner, consistent about maintenance, mostly highway miles. It served me well. I replaced it with another mid 80s Town Car. That was bad. I don't know how many owners, not well maintained. I was happy to be rid of it. Its last hurrah was a friend of mine drove it back from the dealer when I bought my first new car (a 2003 Crown Vic). The Town Car stalled as my friend pulled it into a parking spot at my apartment.

Speaking of above the law, it makes sense the cops are totally dumbfounded as to why anyone would dream of harming them. Just recently Charles Kinsey was shot by "police" laying on his back with his hands up and empty was himself surprised by the unexplainable. No cops are personally identified with responsibility in 99/100 of the "coverage."
Maybe the unstable loner guy (or gang member, it's one or the other) in Utah believed the media--cops is cops, killing for looters. I hope and pray one of them was the brave offissa that shot unarmed Dillon Taylor in the back in Salt Lake City, then handcuffed the boy's dead body to prevent further violence.
