Well, its proof that she intentionally deleted documents under subpoena. Which somehow the FBI determined 'wasn't something a reasonable prosecutor would pursue'. Its still a felony to attempt to destroy evidence under subpoena, last i checked.

Politifact insisted last year that there was "no proof" that any documents related to benghazi had been destroyed. Now there is. I'm confident they will now issue a correction.

1) you've not seen the content of the 30 emails described. No one outside of the State Dept& FBI has yet. The only thing that actually matters is that State Determined that they were in fact "connected to Benghazi". How they were connected isn't at issue.

2) Whether the context is Super-important re: the Benghazi inquiry, or merely incidental (showing, say, a timeline of who communicated with who at what point).... is completely irrelevant to the point that these documents are proof that prior statements that "all relevant materials had been handed over" were false.

The fact they were deleted and had to be recovered by tech-specialists off her 'wiped' hard drive is all that matters. What also matters is if they can prove exactly when they were deleted - specifically, if that occurred after State demanded all records be preserved OR if it happened after Congress subpoenaed all Benghazi related material.

There's nothing desperate at all about this. The "There" is self-evident.

I've finally gotten my C3 back on the road. After some work on the suspension and rewiring, and with a decent paint job on the body, it's ready. The last problem of any consequence is the gearbox, which is far beyond my abilities -- three-speed automatic, but won't engage in third. Taking that in to get seen to tomorrow. Hopefully, the problem will be relatively easy to fix (stuck valve, perhaps). After that, the issues are purely cosmetic, (worn interior, but zero rot/rust, which is excellent; and mediocre paint) and routine maintenance/replacement of parts.

Well the engine I can find for about 2000, depending on condition. 500 for a rebuild kit. The transmission is harder, you really need to buy the landcruiser it came in. 3-9000. Rebuilt axles(might as well) another 500. Adapter plates for all the bits around 1000.
I know someone who put did the same to his, the total was about 5000, but he looked hard, and it was a few years ago. He also had all the tools needed, I lack a bit of them. I'll be budgeting about 8k.

China charges U.S. woman with espionage

An American businesswoman held in China since March last year has been charged with spying, China's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday, the latest development in a case that has added to U.S.-China tensions.

Sandy Phan-Gillis, from Houston, Texas, who is of Chinese ancestry and is a naturalized U.S. citizen, was arrested in March 2015 and had been held without charges since then.

"Based on our understanding, Phan-Gillis, because of her suspected crimes of espionage, has been charged according to law by the relevant Chinese department," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told reporters at a regular briefing.

SEC awards $22 million to Monsanto whistleblower

A former Monsanto Co (MON.N) executive who tipped the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to accounting improprieties involving the company's top-selling Roundup product has been awarded more than $22 million from the agency's whistleblower program, the executive's lawyer said on Tuesday.

The award of $22,437,800 was tied to an $80 million settlement between the SEC and Monsanto in February, according to the lawyer, Stuart Meissner in New York, in a statement. It is the agency's second largest under the program.

On Brexit, Ireland, and Apple's Surprise Tax-Bill

Ireland's economy is built on a low tax rate. After the European Commission deemed a deal between Dublin and U.S. tech giant Apple to be against state aid rules on Aug. 30, it still will be. The risk is that by coming on strong, with a call for Apple to repay up to 13 billion euros in illegal state aid, Europe pushes Ireland into becoming even friendlier to corporate taxpayers.* (OH NO!?)

Brussels wants to stop shadowy fiscal deals from undermining the single market. Some progress has already been made. Since 2014 Ireland has reformed its laws so that companies domiciled within its borders must also be resident for tax purposes. Apple's back-tax bill, potentially large and higher than expected, may pressure politicians to ensure that the only special deal foreign companies get in Ireland is their low 12.5 percent tax rate.

Factor in the impact of Brexit on Ireland, however, and it's possible to take a less cheery view. Dublin already faces a competitive threat from the United Kingdom, which once outside the EU may cut its own corporate tax rate

As I understand it, the dispute is over some supposed special tax break Ireland gave Apple. Ireland denies it was a special break, and says they have some weird tax review process or something not explained that explained why Apple paid almost 0% in taxes rather than the standard 12.5%; and the article I read also failed to explain how Apple "funneled" profits out of Europe into Ireland, legally.

My position is this:

1) If I were an Irelander, I would oppose my government offering special tax breaks to special companies; instead, just lower the damned tax rate for all businesses. But...

2) It is entirely Ireland's business whether it does so, so the EU is overstepping it's bounds.

and 3) If the other countries in Europe don't tax value added but instead tax 'profits realized' then that's their fault (so far none of them seem to be complaining though); Apple has no obligation to pay taxes it isn't made to pay out of love for government. More over, those countries still get to tax the incomes of Apple's employees in those countries, so the idea that Apple is ripping them off is inaccurate.

In defense of safe spaces and trigger warnings. Fun fact: The art on the story depicts accidental hilarity of a person's head exploding.

In each instance, trigger warnings can alert students to genuinely distressing content that could otherwise cripple their learning. Colleges and universities must change as the society changes. And unlike 10 to 20 years ago, schools must now acknowledge and address issues they have largely ignored in the past: sexual violence on campuses and its effects on student victims, the impact of war experiences on veterans returning to college and the mental-health challenges faced by increasing numbers of students.

And maybe we could have afforded to do without safe spaces in the distant past, when no sex-abuse survivor ever went to an institution of higher learning, but now that all the rape victims are swarming into college, we need safe spaces.
