But what difference at this point does it make?
Too big to prosecute.
Hello.
Hi, Rufus.
It's really an abomination that she's going to get away with everything, possibly including the Presidency.
We really need some meddling kids and their dog to put at stop to this.
Ruh roh!
When they pull off her mask, though, madness and despair will consume the world, and R'hyleh will rise from the ocean floor.
I'm not sure if I care for that plan.
The only thing that would make Hillary earn some cool points is if she pulled off a mask to reveal that she is some sort of eldritch abomination.
You really don't need to remove the mask for that...
Leave no nut unpunched, eh, Pearly?
I saw a comment somewhere about how Rod Blagojevich is in jail for trying to sell a Senate seat, while HRC skates while selling influence to foreigners.
Same part and public corruption, both of them.
One is too big to jail.
From the linked story:
State Department lawyers said Tuesday it will need until the end of September to review and redact any classified information from the new emails.
An entire month to read 30 emails!
Redact, huh? I bet we get thirty pages of solid black.
If the Russians have the emails and the FBI releases redacted crap, the Russians can edit the emails to their liking, dump them somewhere and tell Julian Assange.
On second thought, they can dick around even if they don't have the originals.
Just type in whatever you want and hand it over to Assange.
Or they could give him the actual originals....
For yoga classes and weddings?
They are unionized government employees. You don't actually expect them to process more than 1 a day do you?
Why would you redact anything, she already insisted that no classified info was sent on the email?
But none of Hillary's emails had classified information!!!!???
President Obama has nothing better to do, so he's guest-editing Wired's November issue.
Hopefully he doesn't accidentally copy and paste the disposition matrix in there.
Somehow I can't imagine them having asked GWB to edit an issue.
Well, Obama has time now that the JV squad is contained.
GWB wasn't the gifted fabulist that Obama is.
It's unfortunate. Wired is one of the few publications that is consistently good and typically not (overly) politically biased. Why does Obama have to ruin everything?
What you and I call ruining, some call improving.
It's urine to us, holy water to them. Let them drink.
"This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me. "This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you."
NOW DRINK IT!
Did you mean to post this under the gatorade discussion?
It works in both places, Obama's urine is chemically equivalent to 'organic' Gatorade.
So, he's diabetic?
Yes, SugarFree may secretly be Obama.
If you think this is bad, wait until Obama is out of office. He's not going to be quiet outside of the White House, and will probably spend the next ten to twenty years tut-tutting everyone else in America, probably even moreso than he does now.
Seriously. We'll never be rid of the sonofabitch until he goes tits-up. He's going to continue to infest media and pop culture for decades. And since he won't have to even pretend to do his job anymore, it will probably get even worse than it currently is.
FINALLY, our generation will have its own Lincoln!
But does the guy even go to the theater?
I mentioned this in the AM links. A sudden realization this guy ain't going anywhere. The 'revolution' will continue. Ugh.
I used to think that, but Bill Clinton changed my mind. I think it much more likely that he will go on lucrative speaking tours and cost even more in SS protection than he does now. He wouldn't want to end up poorer than Bill and Hillary would he?
Clinton has enough shit floating around him that being in the spotlight too much might damage him in the long run. Obama, on the other hand, will remain the mainstream press' golden boy until the day he dies.
For example, I can't imagine any other president regularly going onto say, MSNBC or CNN to voice their opinion on whatever new social protests or political scandal is going on. With Obama I can, because he can't help himself. His entire narcissistic personality disorder is entirely built around this idea of him being a moral paragon providing wisdom to the masses and challenging his moral inferiors. Clinton, on the other hand, is just a sociopath who wants money and sex.
Who do you think you are? Newhart?
But do we have room for two president Carters?
http://money.cnn.com/2016/08/1.....y-clinton/
That was his plan all along. And he's done one hell of a job at that.
>It's unfortunate. Wired is one of the few publications that is consistently good and typically not (overly) politically biased.
Umm...it is extremely far-left and has been for many years.
It's been a couple of years since I was a regular reader but they were favorable to Snowden and generally anti-NSA.
I think they did buy into the net-neutrality derp as did a lot of the tech blogs I read, which sucks. That might have been why I stopped reading.
I distinctly remember when net neutrality was a big thing they (ad 99% of their commenters) bought into it so hard that questioning the rightness of net neutrality was greeted the way one might greet someone who just proposed making open-mouthed kissing punishable by death.
Or publish the secret kill list by accident. Remy hardest hit.

More yoga schedules?
Wedding schedules. C'mon now, no reasonable prosecutor....
Wait, did she testify to congress that she never deleted any work related...yeah, I know. What difference does it make.
What do we do when we have a president that no one thinks is legit?
So we have 2 candidates who are deeply unpopular.
Johnson can really win this outright if he makes it on to the stage.
But he isn't polling high enough with barely any time left before the CPD decides who to get on stage. It's freaking pathetic.
Johnson needs magical electoral Viagra.
No he cant. People don't vote for policies or select the most competent executive, they strive to vanquish the enemy tribe and reign supreme.
^This
A third-party, open borders candidate cannot beat Trump this year. No way.
Open borders candidate? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R) hinted that me might resign
Me might resign, too.
Anthony is up to something. From his Venezuela story:
Is this some weird version of Napoleon Delusion where you pick tier-2 and -3 loudmouth politicians?
We apparently are amused.
Pan! Pan-pipes! Pan with the plan!
The Hobbit review you shared in the A.M. Links is fan-fucking-tastic, and having read it, I can't believe I missed it.
There's so much scathing weapons-grade, fully justified disdain in this review it's gonna take me awhile to process.
Wright could literally choke a litter of puppies, and I'd still say "Yeah, but have you read his Desolation of Smaug review...?"
I dunno. He based his review on the non-extended version, and then talking about Thufir reciting the mentat chant when it was DeVries who did that in the movie. Eh.
I shudder to ask, but, there's an EXTENDED version of that monstrosity?!
What the fuck is in it? More dwarf capering? More Orlando Bloom? How do you add more bloat?!
Or is it shit from novel they skipped, like all the hungry wandering around dark forest and Gandalf introducing dwarves 2-3 at a time?
the latter.
Make shitty movie, put good stuff from book into extended version, sell it later?
I'd admire the evil business acumen, but that's literally DLC model games have been pushing for decade+...
And he lost me.
That was the worst part of the review in my opinion.
+1 stick of butter
R&B singer and convicted domestic abuser Chris Brown was engaged in a standoff with the LAPD and a SWAT team at his Los Angeles house today after a woman called 911 to report that Brown had pulled a gun on her.
His generation's George Zimmerman.
I think I found a chance to root for LAPD SWAT. Wait. Nope.
Nobody to root for here, except maybe the girlfriend. And at the risk of being labelled a victim-blamer, it's not like his history of domestic abuse is a secret or anything.
You don't understand, she could fix him*.
*Not meaning to imply that she signed on to be abused, either. Making a poor relationship decision isn't consent to be battered or assaulted.
Meh. If I were his neighbor, I'd definitely be rooting for SWAT.
Why can't they both die?
Rooting for SMOD.
The PM Links don't exist! It's all chemtrails! Wake up, sheeple!
[crinkles tinfoil and looks around suspiciously]

I don't understand that reference.
Fuck Chris Brown. I hope they light his bitch ass up.
"No, we are a tech company, not a media company," said Zuckerberg, after a young Italian asked him whether Facebook intended to become a news editor.
While acknowledging the role Facebook has in supplying users with news through their connections and stressing the advantages of obtaining information from different parts of the world, Zuckerberg said Facebook was "a technology company, we build the tools, we do not produce any content".
Rather, we just mysteriously remove content we don't like.
http://www.rawstory.com/2016/0.....a-company/
I thought they were a data collector, not a tech company.
Technically, data miners are a subset of tech companies, i guess.
Rather Technically, we just mysteriously remove content we don't like.
See? Tech company.
I'm not sure my acquaintances' vacation pictures count as "news".
Brett sees: "We substituted the GMO corn syrup for organic corn syrup. And maybe used some different dyes"
The question is if the GMO corn was subsidized to the same extent as organic corn.
Real athletes use Cytomax or some other similar drink.
Gatorade is retarded if they think I'm gonna pay for that crap.
"Real athletes use Cytomax or some other similar drink."
Nothing hydrates faster than lukewarm water. Is it refreshing? Of course not, but that's not really the point.
Hi Rufus.
If it hydrates it is refreshing.
However you can hurt yourself if you sweat, don't eat, and drink only water.
Mountain climbers and sailors will tell you so.
I use Electrolyte Fuel Systems. That shit is a life saver.
Real athletes drink their own urine.
And BLOOD.
So long as it still has the electrolytes that plants crave I see no problem.
Technically, no NaCl is organic. Not sure how they get the K in there. Probably KCl2 Also, not organic.
Were that true then no cellular based life would be organic.
On the plus side gasoline would be organic, and gluten free too!
Gasoline *is* organic.
I'd be happy with a version that only contained cane or beet-derived sugar. Fuck organic.
drank?
past tense?
Oh my god you guys are sooo white.
^This.
As in "Purple".
Copy and paste, yo. Maybe KM-W needs to crack the whip?
I can never tell if the KMW references are meant to be jokes, or if people didn't understand her promotion.
KMW references are here because we all have a fetish for purple hair hi-lights.
Our Purple-haired Goddess!
I know the difference between editor and editor in chief!
Gah, it's so confusing!
(she's editor of the magazine, the Jacket still rules this domain)
Gatorade has introduced an organic version of its popular sports drank.
Wait, which organ is producing it and whose?
It's SIV's bilious gall.
More likely it's SIV's bezoar.
/ziiip. What's that?
An undetermined number of those 30 emails were not included in the cache of 30,000 the former secretary of State voluntarily turned over to the State Department in 2014, government lawyers told U.S. District Court Judge Amit P. Mehta, according to multiple reports.
I trust Trump will just quote that in response to every question in the first debate.
Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R) hinted that me might resign following his recent unhinged voicemail rant, then later tweeted "The reports of my political demise are greatly exaggerated."
He won't resign without providing vaseline first.
"President Obama has nothing better to do, so he's guest-editing Wired's November issue."
This is not good.
It's not good.
No good.
Calm down, Rufus. I understand it's a special issue on the Constitution.
EVEN WORSE!
You mean a "wins suit" edition?

Off Huma's family computer, the one called 'Weinertron' on the (unsecured) family LAN perhaps?
How did Hillary put an end to Bill's cigar shenanigans?
With a Huma Door.
I wonder if it's against Sharia law to thrust one's tongue deep up Huma's asshole cuz I WOULD.
if it's against Sharia law to thrust one's tongue deep up Huma's asshole...
A Jew-tongue (one named 'Weiner' no less) has already been there many, many times.
Think that makes it unclean according to halal or whatever.
I'm sure Huma's mother (flash to stock photo of laundry pile) is very proud.
Secret agents often have to do unpleasant things, plus in this case: taqiyya.
This is why Postrel hates us.
It's also why I hang out here.
?Gatorade has introduced an organic version of its popular sports drank.
The current version is inorganic? Is it silica based?
I assume the only electrolytes that will be left to brag about are hydrogen carbonate, because those sodium and potassium ones sure aren't organic.
Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R) hinted that me might resign following his recent unhinged voicemail rant...
Maine's still a thing, huh? Trump should have picked LePage for his running mate. For the comparison advantage.
Double the clowns, double the fun!
Followup to the story about the sheriff in Louisiana who obtained the identity of an online critic and then got a search warrant for the critic's house.
An appeals court has found the search warrant was illegal, because the criminal libel law on which the warrant was based is unconstitutional, at least as applied to public officials as was the case here.
Gary Johnson hardest hit - California child-vaccination law goes into effect, with a court refusing to block it. The law requires students at public and private schools to be vaccinated against certain diseases unless a doctor provides a medical excuse. There are no religious exemptions.
oops, let me repost that below.
No more plastic bags either, the bastards
That quiet pathetic fart noise you hear is the sound of nothing else happening to the sherrif
+1 cloaca quiff
So, the person issuing that warrant will be charged, right? Thanks, folks. Here all week. Tip your waitress.
President Obama has nothing better to do, so he's guest-editing Wired's November issue.
"Oooh, the new issue of 'Weird'"
Wired's another one that's joined the Rolling Stone pantheon of once decent magazines that went full idiot.
Yep. All their recent pro-Hillary, anti-Trump, and making the case that trolls are increasing in number as racists join Trump, all published in the last week alone, changes Wired from great technology magazine into just another MSN outlet whose scientific and technology news will be warped match political ideology.
What a shame, but obvious.
Did they remember to talk about misogyny being at peak levels.
Rockit, by Herbie Hancock
Herbie's 1973 re-recording of Watermelon Man.
Some youngster used the joke from Tommy Boy (or another bad SNL movie), "hey, this document needs your Herbie Hancock."
Dude didn't even know who he was, let alone heard Headhunters before.
I personally think the way Paul Jackson & Mike Clark (aka "the headhunters") get their swing on is one of the baddest-ass things that has ever happened in music.
*Technically, Harvey Mason played on Watermelon Man. but, just saying.
It's Low Information Voter Tuesday.
Name the stupidest thing someone you personally know has ever said to you in a political conversation. Not something you saw some random retard put on Facebook, it has to be somebody you consider a friend or acquaintance in meatspace.
I'll go first.
I had a teacher tell me that paying taxes constitutes my active consent for every new law and regulation. And he wasn't being sarcastic. He meant it.
"Stephen Harper is creating a soft dictatorship."
-Several years ago, from someone who thinks it's fine that Trudeau Senior declared martial law over a kidnapping.
Someone didn't read Simpson's 'The Friendly Dictatorship' during Chretien's reign.
Remember '66% of Canadians didn't vote for Harper!' Ergo he MUST compromise with the NDP and Liberals!
Now let's watch the Liberals return the favor...right? RIGHT?
These boneheads don't realize the PM by way of the PMO has more power than the U.S. President.
I suppose the new one is "the Liberals trying to change the voting system without a referendum is completely fine, despite the fact that it's designed to benefit them and flies in the face of the entirety of Canada's political history."
I thought passive aggressive the mini-Dictator mannequin backed off from that?
They've backed down for now, but I think only for now. They'll wait until some other issue is distracting the electorate and try again. Fortunately it's a good issue for the NDP and Tories to die on a hill for, so I don't think anything will come of it. But the fact that they tried is telling.
You mean Cr?tin.
(After all, the CBC tried to rename the opposition leader Doris.)
Hey, he wanted Unwashed Masses to have some direct input on how the country is run, which is The Most Horrible Unjust And Monstrous Way To Do Things.
If he went through, we'd wind up like Americans, with all those horrible ballot initiatives which bankrupted California!
Ah, the Canadian Way. Pin democracy on your chest and declare the highest, most important virtue ever and then act with disgust anytime someone suggests actually using it for decision making.
"I'm talking about Citizens United and how it unleashed the floodgates of corporate campaign corruption - I don't know what you're talking about with that book-banning anecdote."
(paraphrase)
It's Low Information Voter Tuesday.
Isn't that usually just called "Election Day?"
And don't we still have a couple months to brace ourselves?
"Lubed up for Hillary!"
There is not enough lube or bracing in existence for me to prepare.
Back in the Clinton-Monica days, I had a friend remark to me he thought Gore was lowest-key President he'd ever seen after Clinton got impeached.
I looked my friend in the face for the dead-pan giveaway, but nothing...just stick-in-the-mud derp.
I don't talk politics in meatspace.
"I support Queer Nation because about 50% of the US population is homosexual; most of them are closet cases."
Big fuckin closet, Bro!
Queer Nation? Is that what they call Rhode Island these days?
"The Democrats are the only ones that run candidates with any morals."
My dad, referring to BO defeating Romney the night of the 2012 election.
I countered with "Moral people don't maintain secret drone assassination lists".
He countered with something about tin-foil hats.
This is why we don't talk about politics.
You should send him a link to the article in the right wing ny times that talked about Obamas kill list.
Easy.
"Libertarians want to bring back indentured servitude."
Since I'm as closeted as fuck, having to live in Vancouver, this was shared so I would chuckle at dumb Libertarians on the internet.
You live in Stanley Park?
Idiot:"The president should ban all GMO's across the world."
Me: "Uh, the president doesn't have that power, nor should he."
Idiot: "Well he should! This is too important! GMO's are killing the human race!"
Me: "Uh, everything we eat is genetically modified, has been that way for centuries. And genetically modified wheat and rice have saved hundreds of millions of people from starvation over the last several decades. Why do you want poor people to die?"
Idiot: "Well all I really know is how I feel and I feel that GMO's are bad."
Me: (recoils in horror to the last comment and slowly backs away).
I was told that, by continuing to eat at Chick-Fil-A, I had the blood of dead gay teens on my hands. That was courtesy of someone who was then just about my oldest and dearest friend. Needless to say, that was the last I ever heard from her despite several attempts to maintain contact.
Their Spicy Dead Gay Teen Sandwich is delicious. I always order mine with the crosscut fries.
That's terrible! The cholesterol in those fries is sky-high.
So....is that what makes the chicken taste so good?
#CFABloodLibel
It's hard to compete with all of the examples of stupid comments so far, but here is mine:
"The government needs to get rid of all greenhouse gases!"
"Even water?"
"What? No! Greenhouse gases! They're bad and they have to go"
"You do realize that water vapor is a greenhouse gas, right?"
/facial expression of someone whose brain is breaking
oh that was a former coworker, I seem to have worked with a lot of dumb people over the years
How about this one:
One year of Mandatory government service will cure 18-24 year olds of being entitled snowflakes.
So, you want to bring back slavery?
Quit being a drama queen! Other countries have mandatory service; we should too!
So, you're okay with mandates then? Like ObamaCare mandates?
Quit being a drama queen! I'm a Republican!
I don't see how limited government Republicans can advocate mandatory government service . . . .
Quit it! Mandatory government service won't grow the size of government.
Friend: "The three branches of government are the legislative, the executive, and I forget what the other one is."
Me: "Judicial."
Friend: "No it's can't be judicial because they don't make any laws."
I mentioned it on here at the time.
Guy tells me that we fought the civil war over the minimum wage. And without the min wage we'd be slaves. It would be a race to the bottom.
"The Republicans get votes by invoking fear in the voters".
During a debate about Climate Change nee Global Warming.
"I'm a Hillary supporter."
My sister: "don't you just get teary eyed when you vote for the first woman president?"
I won't vote for her, but I'll get teary eyed all the same.
"I think everyone would be better off if we just went back to an agrarian society."
Overheard hipster at house party: "capitalism only helps rich people, socialism helps all people."
Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) has vetoed a bill to raise the Garden State's minimum wage to $15.
You're no longer running for president, Chris. You don't have to keep pretending to be Republican.
Not surprising. You can imagine just what increased Big Mac prices would have done to the Christie family budget.
The cattle futures market trembled today.
Stopped clocks.
The FBI confirmed in court today that it had found 30 deleted emails from Hillary Clinton's private server that dealt with the 2012 attacks on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya. But what difference at this point does it make?
"It's gonna take, like...infinity time for us to go through them."
"Using broad search terms, we have identified approximately 30 documents potentially responsive to a Benghazi-related request,"
Search terms included "four dead people, kinky video, embassy, and easy coverup."
Won't the FBI feel foolish when they find out the emails are related to Hillary's night at Embassy Suites in D.C. with Huma, the XXX pay per view movies they watched, and the cover up of the assassinations of whistle blowers.
Maybe even until the end of November.
I just imagine the poor FBI rookie going through that computer.
How many Weiner dick pics did he have to look at before he stumbled across something useful?
Ah yes, Barack Obama, an ideal pick for Wired, being an expert on such revolutionary technologies as...hmmm. Well, I mean, Wired's also met to be about how technology influences culture, which Obama is an expert on because of that one time in university he heard about that Marshall McLuhan guy. I mean, I can't think of a more qualified person to talk about technology and its influences.
Especially after such massive successes, like the Obamacare website and the Secretary of States' email server, and the exposure of mass surveillance by the NSA both during and before his administration.
Has Wired ever investigated the technological aspect of the disastrous roll-out from a tech perspective?
Lest we forget, Wired was started by a libertarian named Lou Rossetto.
Didn't know that.
Just looked him up on Wiki. 'Radical libertarian'. Has he ever been asked about the direction of Wired? I can't imagine him being pleased with Obama being a guest-editor.
I'm pretty certain he'd be thrilled that a sitting president is going to have a column in his magazine. Sitting president = copies sold.
Interesting.
I mean, I can't think of a more qualified person to talk about technology and its influences.
Look, he uses a Blackberry. What more qualification do you want?
Oh, well that's different then. I'm sure he could also apply that genius to economic concerns and make RIM profitable again.
Media Orgs Donate to Clinton Foundation Then Downplay Clinton Foundation Scandal
Was not familiar with observer.com... seems like a pretty reasonable site.
The Observer's owner and publisher is Donald Trump's son-in-law.

Are they going to shuffle their feet until January or are we going to be able to read them before that?
Can a President pardon himself?
The GOP won't have a majority to impeach, so pardoning herself may just be an option.
That's a really good question, Hiawatha. Probably so, but it would be tacky. Nixon, for example, didn't pardon himself as his last act in office; he had his successor Ford do that one month later.
I wouldn't expect to HRC to resign if things went to hell. She's too shameless to quit.
And the Congressional Democrats will side with her.
I think we will end up in a serious political crisis if HRC's shenanigans are exposed after her coronation.
Don't hole your breath. They're being exposed now and no one gives a shit.
hole, hold, euphemism? I don't know. Time for a beer.
Clinton would pull a Julia Gillard and blame it all on misogyny, and the media would follow the line and basically say "all the male presidents have done just as bad or worse things, but only she is getting torn apart."
In the end, depending on the scope of whatever scandals occur (and I doubt anything serious will happen; supposing she has done or will do anything sufficiently incriminating, the media is so thoroughly in bed with her, it wouldn't likely get out), I expect that congressional Democrats may well get to the point of wanting to pull the plug on her to avoid going down with her ship. It's not like she's some charismatic leader they all adore. They just tolerate her because she's there.
Not true that Nixon had Ford pardon him. Ford did it of his volition. I saw him in an interview saying that the country needed to move forward and heal after Watergate and a Nixon trial would dominate the headlines every day for months and months.
That you actually believe that is so cute...in a sad sort of way.
"the GOP's poll numbers needed to move forward and heal after Watergate and a Nixon trial would make Republican criminality obvious every day for months and months."
Did you know Google translate now has "lying criminal politician" as a language? You can just cut and paste and it translates.
The power is plenary, so yes.
And she's just the sort who would.
Gary Johnson hardest hit - California child-vaccination law goes into effect, with a court refusing to block it. The law requires students at public and private schools to be vaccinated against certain diseases unless a doctor provides a medical excuse. There are no religious exemptions.
Isnt that what GJ favors?
From his "definitive statement":
"Each of the 50 states has varying vaccination requirements for children, consistent with their responsibilities for public education and providing a safe environment for students who are required to attend school under state law. Likewise, each of the 50 states has varying opportunities for parents to seek exemptions from vaccination requirements for legitimate reasons of personal belief. That, too, is as it should be.
"And while I personally believe some states' 'opt-out' provisions are not adequate in terms of personal freedom, those laws and requirements are appropriately beyond the scope of the federal government?including the President."
So, it is what he favors.
Check.
He's not 100% clear what he means "legitimate reasons of personal belief," but he says some (unspecified) states have *insufficient* protections for vaccine objectors.
But he also says it's no skin off his nose, and he'd be open to emergency measures in time of plague, etc.
Also -
"Government has a responsibility to help keep our children and our communities safe. At the same time, government has a responsibility to preserve individual freedom. Vaccination policies must respect both of those responsibilities. I personally believe in vaccinations, and my children were vaccinated. But it is not for me to impose that belief on others."
So, you are now campaigning for Johnson?
I'm just busting Johnson's balls.
He's for religious freedom if it means the right not to vaccinate your child, but not if it means the right not to bake a cake.
So you are busting his balls for the thing he gets right?
Weird.
Its like Clinton running commercials to try to get me to vote for Trump.
I dont understand you people.
And yes, I just found a Venn diagram that contains Eddie and Hillary in the same circle.
Hillary is replying to her own comments now?
I'm much less sympathetic to religious freedom re child vaccinations than re bakers.
Anyway, like I've said before, if I were a left-libertarian I might well consider Johnson the best candidate, so I won't tell you not to vote for him.
Anyway, like I've said before, if I were a left-libertarian I might well consider Johnson the best candidate, so I won't tell you not to vote for him.
You keep saying this but it makes no sense, as I am not a left-libertarian.
Who do you think I am?
Who do you think I am?
Eddie is a big fan of presumption. It is one of his more annoying habits, which is saying something.
Does this annoy you? Does this annoy you? I'm not touching you...
Wait, don't tell me...Franz Bonaventura Adalbert Maria von Wittelsbach, recognized by Jacobites as King of England?
If not, then who are you?
I dont know, but no one that anyone who had been on h&r as long as you would think was a left-libertarian.
I suppose I define the term "left libertarian" to mean a libertarian with certain specific cultural sensibilities...like embracing the Sexual Revolution...etc....
But I won't use *my* words to describe you, I'll use yours. Just suggest something so I won't err again.
I'm much less sympathetic to religious freedom re child vaccinations than re bakers.
I dont see much difference.
Protecting the health of minors and those around them (including other minors) versus protecting the feelz of gays who have to go to the baker across the street for their cake...I see some differences.
I guess he would find the private school part problematic, as do I.
And it's still not a mandate. Still can get around them. Hell, Bob Sears is (or at least was) selling exemption letters on demand on his website.
Who is Bob Sears and is this legal?
You ever see the multitude of parenting books authored by "Dr. Sears"? That's his dad. Bob Sears has a career as a celebrity doctor (on that awful daytime talk show "The Doctors") and as pediatrician to the stars' children, especially the anti-vaccination ones.
It's probably not legal, but I don't know CA law.
Regardless, you can easily find a doctor to sign a phony letter for you if you want. Plenty of them in California.
Interesting.
Getting the doctors note for medical marijuana was easy too.
Is, I guess, not was.
Scientists have just decided we've entered a new, terrifying epoch
There's rock formations that have existed for thousands of years thanks to Roman mining methods, but only now are we radically changing the environment.
See also the cedars of Lebanon.
I heard that same shit 40 years ago.
They are just kicking the spigot trying to get more grant money to flow.
Well, apparently we entered this era in 1945, so.. all those doomsayers were right?
Anyways, let me know when the wolf actually gets here, because I've kind of tuned the "wolf!" cries, given how often they happen.
It's right now, look there's a wolf right there!
Made you look.
Wait until the Aperopocene!
I can't wait until future generations digitally reconstruct our society based on evidence from the Early Antrhopocene epoch and laugh.
Its these young 'reporters' man - everything they write about 'no one really knew anything about until now'.

Seri-fucking-ously? There are gladiators - that's the extent of the link between the movie she's talking about and Spartucus. Fucking *Gladiator* has more in common with this movie.
Oh, and best part - that article *was* illustrated with a still from 'Gladiator' until a commenter pointed out that she had the wrong movie.
A few days ago someone posted a story about a famous server-wide fight against a big mob in Everquest, years ago. That shit is a well-known part of MMO and computer gaming history.
The story calls it 'something that wouldn't have been known until someone dropped a message to me in my inbox'.
Mehta pressed the agency on why it would take so long to process so few documents and ordered the department to return in a week with more details about why it needs a full month.
FTS.
Return in five minutes, or be jailed for contempt.
Mehta should have said - give me the emails and a sharpie. Now.
What difference?
Well, its proof that she intentionally deleted documents under subpoena. Which somehow the FBI determined 'wasn't something a reasonable prosecutor would pursue'. Its still a felony to attempt to destroy evidence under subpoena, last i checked.
Stories covering this don't even bother mentioning the whole "destruction of evidence" thing.
Politifact insisted last year that there was "no proof" that any documents related to benghazi had been destroyed. Now there is. I'm confident they will now issue a correction.
...
...
...
...
ok maybe that's a bit much.
Wow. Just wow.
Anyone believe they'll revisit this? not me.
I'm sure these are just emails about what kind of tea she wants before speaking about the attack, what to wear to the funerals, the type of flowers to send Stevens's widow, etc.
Its possible. It would also be irrelevant, because the crime isn't dependent on the nature of the content, but on the fact that they're "related" and therefore covered by subpoena.
But what does it really matter? They're irrelevant emails. There's no there there. This is desperate.
WTF are you talking about.
1) you've not seen the content of the 30 emails described. No one outside of the State Dept& FBI has yet. The only thing that actually matters is that State Determined that they were in fact "connected to Benghazi". How they were connected isn't at issue.
2) Whether the context is Super-important re: the Benghazi inquiry, or merely incidental (showing, say, a timeline of who communicated with who at what point).... is completely irrelevant to the point that these documents are proof that prior statements that "all relevant materials had been handed over" were false.
The fact they were deleted and had to be recovered by tech-specialists off her 'wiped' hard drive is all that matters. What also matters is if they can prove exactly when they were deleted - specifically, if that occurred after State demanded all records be preserved OR if it happened after Congress subpoenaed all Benghazi related material.
There's nothing desperate at all about this. The "There" is self-evident.
***woosh***
look if you don't "Sarc-tag" shit, i'm treating it as sincere unless its crusty or agile.
This is why nobody takes me seriously.
At some point, Clinton is going to have to admit that she and Huma are lesbian lovers and 'the Clinton Foundation" is a codeword that doesn't mean what you think it means. Neither is "Benghazi". And then won't you look silly with your talk about under-the-table donations being slipped to the Clinton Foundation and Clinton tripping all over her tongue and sticking her foot in it with the Benghazi thing.
(Sorry, I forgot to add the /sarc.) /sarc
"At some point, Clinton is going to have to admit that she and Huma are lesbian lovers and 'the Clinton Foundation" is a codeword that doesn't mean what you think it means. Neither is "Benghazi.""
Oh yea, Huma is definitely bangin' her, um, hazi.
At least now you're prepped for the scores of people who will respond to you as I did.
I don't think "pretending to be stupid" is quite the public service you might imagine.
Constitution Party releases new ballot access map
"According to the nation's foremost ballot access expert, Richard Winger of Ballot Access News, Castle will likely be on the ballot in 25 or 26 states, for a total access to 211 or 222 Electoral College Votes, respectively. In 2012, Constitution Party nominee Virgil Goode was on the ballot in 26 states."
The one comment suggests the map is wrong for two states.
Let me check...
The Constitution Party is listed under "Oregon Political Parties" on the Secretary of State's Web site.
According to Ballot Access News (the go to source for this stuff), Rocky de la Fuente is going to be on more ballots than Castle.
No idea who he is. Natural Law?
From Ballot Access News comments:
Tom P, you should have included North Dakota and Rhode Island. I was not giving Castle Oregon. -- Richard Winger
If Richard Winger says he isnt on it, I am going with that. Its an appeal to authority, but I dont think anyone knows more about ballot access than Winger.
Maybe the party is recognized but Castle somehow wasn't recognized?
Maybe it is a different Constitution Party?
No idea.
Also de la Fuente is an independent. Impressive to be on about 25 states with no structure.
The Virginia elections board doesn't seem to have *any* Presidential candidate list for this year, as far as I can see.
Happy birthday Frankenstein's Mom
Beware; for I am fearless, and therefore powerful.
Would have.
You talking about Frankenstein?
No, he is talking about the monster.
That's what my wife calls it. Technically the Kraken. As in Release the Kraken.
I released the Kraken this weekend and had the hangover to prove it the next day.
Note:
Johnson ads on the radio on KTRH out of Houston.
Just heard several over the last 30 minutes.
You talking about the monster?
The monster referred to Dr. Frankenstein as a father.
So it would be plausible if the monster took his "father's" name.
Has this woman ever even read Frankenstein?

Off-topic (for all of the automotive enthusiasts among the commentariat):
I've finally gotten my C3 back on the road. After some work on the suspension and rewiring, and with a decent paint job on the body, it's ready. The last problem of any consequence is the gearbox, which is far beyond my abilities -- three-speed automatic, but won't engage in third. Taking that in to get seen to tomorrow. Hopefully, the problem will be relatively easy to fix (stuck valve, perhaps). After that, the issues are purely cosmetic, (worn interior, but zero rot/rust, which is excellent; and mediocre paint) and routine maintenance/replacement of parts.

After spending years around European and Japanese cars, the matchless, hellraising roar of an American V8 plastered a painfully wide smile on my face I couldn't shake for about half an hour. There's nothing like old American muscle.
I know Tundra got himself a Spitfire, which I'll assume is roadworthy and great fun, though I'd love to hear more.
But what do the rest of you fine folks drive? If you can be bothered, photographs would be awesome (blur the license plates, if it makes you feel more comfortable with it), but full model names so I can look them up would be appreciated. I want to see what kind of steeds the libertarian horde prefers.
An elderly blue Buick Lacrosse that is named J.B. Fletcher. Chicks dig it old, white mechanics appreciate it.
I sold my black Buick Lacrosse in early 2015 and bought a Jeep Cherokee Latitude in late 2015.

I happen to like the newest grille and lamp layout for these cars. How's it go?
That color even. Was that a 2015 or 2016? Mine is the 2015, I think the design is basically the same.
Its been good so far, the car seat fits comfortably in the back. My wife's Camry was awful, we had to get rid of it because the passenger was crumpled up with the car seat behind it (we are both 6' tall).
So we ended up buying a second Cherokee. Red 2016 for the wife.
They're nearly identical from last year to 2016, and European reviewers basically gave it shit because it was American and ate more fuel than some shitty Vauxhall (GM-owned British brand) faux-SUV with a lawnmower engine in it.
We called out a veterinarian for our horse a few months ago, and his organization updated from Nissan Navarras (I think) to a new fleet of Jeeps. Best SUVs I've been in. It was comfortable, and it looked good.

Plus there is nothing cheap about repairing an automatic transmission if the problem is inside the tranny even if the one part needed is only $15. If you take the tranny apart to fix a cheap part be sure to replace everything you can before it is put back together else you may find yourself doing it again for another $40 part in a year or so.
Is that what real athletes drive?
A cheapo 2012 Nissan Versa, because I'm po', it was cheap, and I had a very short period of time in which I had to buy a car. It's a long story.
If you like it, you like it. It's about taste. Elitism is for Europeans (the number of asshat Ferrari owners at car shows who'll screech at you for breaking a four-foot safety zone around their precious Italian shitbox is astonishing in Britain).
Nice looking car, but you need someone in a bikini in those kinda pictures, also why haven't you turned those pallets into a coffee table or a wine rack or a wall garden yet?
I'm saving them for use in the construction of an orphan corral. Are you telling me YOU don't have one? *Sharpens orphan-bone dagger.*
A blue Honda Civic.
I had a blue Honda Civic for 10 years and then in December replaced it with another blue Honda Civic. The extra 35 hp from the turbo was a nice upgrade.
One of the craziest cars I've ever seen was a Civic with a K20 so powerful, so insane, it needed wheelie bars to keep it from exiting the Earth's atmosphere. Which generation/year is your one?
2016 - the Turbo comes standard on the EX models and above. It was a very smart decision on Honda's part.
I would have gone with a Fit if they would just give it a better engine.
How do wheelie bars help on a FWD car?
Indeed.
RWD conversion. Popular for dragsters.

A white 2015 KIA Soul. I bought new for the first and last time in my life. That's not to say the car isn't good; it's quite good. Surprisingly spacious and comfortable on the highway.
New would be totally out of my price range, but the C3's my dream car, so I won't be buying anything else. Why the last time? 😮

Or a 2005 Triumph Speed Triple.
1974 toyota landcruiser fj40. Once the 2f engine finally dies, I'll be putting in a Isuzu 4bd1t turbo diesel engine in, possibly replacing the 4 speed to an auto from an early 90's landcruiser.
That's some cash though, and a distant dream.
Currently stripping everything on the truck and painting it. Should be done this weekend.
Awesome. How much would the rebuild you're suggesting set you back?
Well the engine I can find for about 2000, depending on condition. 500 for a rebuild kit. The transmission is harder, you really need to buy the landcruiser it came in. 3-9000. Rebuilt axles(might as well) another 500. Adapter plates for all the bits around 1000.
I know someone who put did the same to his, the total was about 5000, but he looked hard, and it was a few years ago. He also had all the tools needed, I lack a bit of them. I'll be budgeting about 8k.

I've heard stories about people chatting online or surfing the web and a friendly window pops up to tell you that you shouldn't be visiting that site or chatting about such things. And there are constant messages that popup on your computer about loving the Party. Can you imagine that shit? Soon they'll have their own walled off internet and anything coming in from other countries will be blocked and heavily filtered and monitored. Something tells me that shit won't last long. Either that thing will go or the Communist Party will.
Is that new? I was in China in 2012 and noticed no real difference in using the internet.

On Brexit, Ireland, and Apple's Surprise Tax-Bill
read = I'm not in agreement w/ the author. But i think its an interesting perspective from "award winning business journalists" and the depths of their moronic devotion to the notion of a "Common European Good"
I have to assume that the "competitive advantage" the UK has now that it's out of the EU, is a race to the bottom, as so many of our modern pundits put it. Because if I take it at face value-- the words "competitive advantage" then I am left with no choice but to assume that the lower tax rate helps the UK's economy, not hurts it. But the author doesn't seem to be spinning it that way.
It's not out of EU yet. It hasn't even started the process.
And, Educated Well-Thinking People who care about Constitutional Government over Mob Rule are now agitating for Parliament vote over leaving EU, so that the MPs can vote "No" and override the (purely advisory) referendum.
I have some experience with "advisory" votes.
Often, the results simply don't matter, and the politicians go ahead with what they wanted to do anyway.
I see no reason for it to end up working any differently than your garden-variety school referendum (or indeed, than past EU referendums): vote again, and again -- eventually, you'll get the result you're looking for.
As I understand it, the dispute is over some supposed special tax break Ireland gave Apple. Ireland denies it was a special break, and says they have some weird tax review process or something not explained that explained why Apple paid almost 0% in taxes rather than the standard 12.5%; and the article I read also failed to explain how Apple "funneled" profits out of Europe into Ireland, legally.
My position is this:
1) If I were an Irelander, I would oppose my government offering special tax breaks to special companies; instead, just lower the damned tax rate for all businesses. But...
2) It is entirely Ireland's business whether it does so, so the EU is overstepping it's bounds.
and 3) If the other countries in Europe don't tax value added but instead tax 'profits realized' then that's their fault (so far none of them seem to be complaining though); Apple has no obligation to pay taxes it isn't made to pay out of love for government. More over, those countries still get to tax the incomes of Apple's employees in those countries, so the idea that Apple is ripping them off is inaccurate.

Why did that man have his face surgically altered to look like Nixon's?
Well, at least their trend of finding guest editors to edit topics they know not a fucking thing about is still going strong.
They're trying to be like George magazine, what with all their hip, celebrity editors.
Hey! Guess what...The Boston Globe's editorial board can go fuck themselves!!
You know you're dealing with authoritarians/boot-lickers when the first the first argument* is:
*They don't argue this as "it's just a fact of our government", but rather "Surely you don't think you can have total freedom, dipshit."
Check out the full, derptastic first paragraph:
"AMERICAN JUDGES HAVE long recognized that religion alone doesn't provide a blank check to break the law. The First Amendment protects religious belief, but like all rights it has limits: You can't claim a religious justification for counterfeiting or fraud or bigamy and get out of jail free."
Wow, they just refuted all those people who thinks religion can justify violating any law, including the laws against counterfeiting and fraud!
(I'm not sure why the Boston Globe wants to prosecute bigamy, isn't that covered by the "right to marry"?)
"Would it really be practical for the government to prepare a legal brief explaining why it should be allowed to enforce the law in every individual case?"
Would it be constitutional to suppress religious practices without proof, in the particular case, that the suppression was necessary?
"an ill-advised religious freedom law passed by Congress and signed by President Bill Clinton in 1993."
I looked at the Boston Globe's archives, and found an editorial from November 7, 1993, called "The right to rites." I don't have the full text because of their paywall, but there's this excerpt:
"Congress has responded to the [Smith] decision by putting into law the long-established principle that government has to demonstrate a "compelling interest" in enforcing any law or requirement that hinders a person's free exercise of religious beliefs. "Government," in the words of the legislation, "may burden a person's exercise of religion only if it demonstrates that application of the burden to the person furthers a compelling governmental interest and is the least restrictive means of furthering that compelling governmental interest.""
It sounds like RFRA was a Good Thing back in the Clinton Administration.
What changed?
In defense of safe spaces and trigger warnings. Fun fact: The art on the story depicts accidental hilarity of a person's head exploding.
"And unlike 10 to 20 years ago, schools must now acknowledge and address issues they have largely ignored in the past: sexual violence on campuses and its effects on student victims, the impact of war experiences on veterans returning to college and the mental-health challenges faced by increasing numbers of students.
"Imagine a rape survivor entering a class in which sexual violence is the subject of academic debate or a veteran just returning from a combat assignment suffering from acute post-traumatic stress syndrome, anxiety or depression in a classroom where accounts of a war are disputed. "
Yeah, Congress was so negligent when it passed the GI Bill - it should have mandated safe spaces for all those veterans attending college. Look at all the suicides by veterans when they came into college classrooms only to be ambushed by a professor talking about the War of the Spanish Succession.
And maybe we could have afforded to do without safe spaces in the distant past, when no sex-abuse survivor ever went to an institution of higher learning, but now that all the rape victims are swarming into college, we need safe spaces.
/sarc
Yeah, the GI Bill was my first thought. How did those WWII vets ever manage to make it through college without trigger warnings?
According to the author, they didn't. Heartless administrators just didn't care. But the bow-tie makes you care.
Wait, I skimmed again and noticed this, which makes the rest of the editorial quite predictable...
"At The Evergreen State College, where I serve as president..."
It's my understanding that The Evergreen State College is for students who think Berkeley is too buttoned-up and conservative. Can anyone confirm?
Hey guys and Kaepernickers,
I just wanted to post a note saying that we have open spots in our fantasy football Hit & Run J Sub D Memorial League this year. If you're a lurker or an active commenter, we can hook you up. We need about four-six guys to either re-up or to take open slots. Please hit me up at rockaction8@gmail.com if you're interested in doing this and I will send a link. Last year, Apatheist won the tourney. We will hope to rectify that real soon. Just hit me up if you're interested. I'll post in the A.M. links tomorrow also for those that might miss this in the PM.
Peace,
RA
