Tracie Van Auken/EPA/Newscom In a rally with his delegates in Philadelphia, Bernie Sanders encouraged them to vote for Hillary Clinton. They booed him.
- The FBI will be investigating who hacked the Democratic National Committee and provided thousands of internal emails to Wikileaks.
- Donald Trump has received a decent post-convention poll bounce, now leading Clinton in a poll released today.
- The Turkish government, having survived the coup attempt, is now cracking down on journalists.
- Verizon is buying most of Yahoo for $4.8 billion. Verizon purchased AOL last year for $4.4 billion.
- A college football player says he was stopped by police in Iowa while playing Pokemon Go and had guns pointed at him because he matched the description of a man suspected of robbing a nearby bank.
- The political circus of the Republican National Convention and now the Democratic National Convention has distracted us all from some much more important news: namely, what sort of cool movie trailers were shown for the first time at the San Diego Comic Convention. See them aggregated here.

In a rally with his delegates in Philadelphia, Bernie Sanders encouraged them to vote for Hillary Clinton. They booed him.
Finally, all that home team booing Philadelphians do can be put to good use.
Damn. Timely, snarky, relevant and clever. Fisty, I hate you.
My dislike of Filthadelphia is the engine of my creativity.
Or maybe it's the fuel. What am I, a rocket scientist? I don't know. You figure it out.
What am I, your biographer mechanic?
Either way, you're not getting paid.
Written just like a Filthadelphian!
Dems boo runner up who endorses the candidate, Reps boo runner up who doesn't endorse the candidate.
Reps in disarray, Dens united, according to MSM.
Logic fail.
Hello.
Bah.
Hello
Lucky there's no snow.
The Turkish government, having survived the coup attempt, is now cracking down on journalists.
Totally not engineered.
Yeah, this 'coup attempt' reeks of 'political ploy by Erdogan'.
But the 61 tactical nukes at Incirlik are very troubling. Very troubling indeed.
Starting with, WTF are we doing with tactical nukes on the ground in Turkey?
If we just hafta deliver a tactical nuke in that neighborhood, don't we have options that don't involve "loading it onto a plane in Turkey"?
They don't have the launch codes. Come January, Trump will. That's frightening.
(I'll let you figure out how much of this is sarcasm.)
Hildog will keep those codes secure on her bathroom server.
Or at the DNC.
"We're gonna destroy ISIS, and we're gonna do it *quick*."
"The mushroom cloud's gonna be yuuuuuuuugggge!"
Don't think camels fly? Wait 'till Trump drops the bestest 'shroom EVAH!
Serious question if anyone knows the answer: does the President need to input authorization codes to drop simple nuclear bombs? I thought that was just the ICBMs. Am curious.
As I understand it, he needs authorization codes because the dude or dudette who is actually arming the device (or the vehicle for the device) will need to input them.
Why I Decided To Quit Medicine In Today's Healthcare Climate
Single-payer legal care. Because every regulation we put on doctors, we ought to put on lawyers too.
I actually think that there's an excellent case to be made for socializing the legal "profession."
I've always thought that would be poetic justice.
Unfortunately though, considering their job description basically boils down to "profit by manipulating the system", it would probably end up as a horrible example of regulatory capture and enrich them greatly.
Yeah, good thing we dodged that bullet.
If you are fascinated by the intricacies of the human body, go into medical research, not into clinical practice. Clinical practice is routine diabetes management that a trained monkey could do.
But somehow treating patients is somehow vastly more prestigious and admired than research. Oh I know why, practicing doctors make vastly more money.
I thought it was having cool hair and banging hot interns as shown in ER, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, and that crappy sex comedy about doctors without borders.
Turns out it's treating the umpteenth case of chicken pox this year, arguing with a mom about vaccinations because of something noted physician Jenny McCarthy said on Oprah, trying to treat patients for STD's when they insist they are monogamous, and talking down your overly excited patients because of something Dr. Oz said.
Boo hoo.
My rash is now worse because I did not listen to your advice. I blame you for that. Now, look at it. LOOK AT IT. And fix it.
Let's all start getting treated by veterinarians.
This would-be doc is talking about Dr James Herriot style nostalgia.
Which was possible without insurance or govt permission to build a new clinic or hospital
In a rally with his delegates in Philadelphia, Bernie Sanders encouraged them to vote for Hillary Clinton. They booed him.
No, no, no! They were saying "Boo-ernie!"
"I was saying Boo-urns..."
Citizen X just had a vision of the future, with ghost BernieBros haunting the landscape of a post-apocalyptic post-Hillary dying Earth.
That's a town in Texas.
A college football player says he was stopped by police in Iowa while playing Pokemon Go and had guns pointed at him because he matched the description of a man suspected of robbing a nearby bank.
Well, they shouldn't be hiding Pokemons in banks.
This.
It's like hunting for them in Auschwitz. You don't want to; but *there they are*.
Would be kinda tasteless going in the oven to get that blue one.
Fuck it, I want the blue one.
I'm more disturbed by the idea of a football player named "Faith".
You'd prefer "Hope" or "Charity"?
Faith sounds like a Mississippi Girl.
Ok, hint taken.

'All these teachers do is whine' ? and other myths
Ha, ha...
Subject matter is the most important asset a teacher can possess.
I'd like to learn a foreign language from somebody who can actually speak that language.
Honestly, from talking to teachers I get the subtext of "abilities of child are set by birth, and there's nothing to be done about it".
Are they wrong?
No.
There is nothing fundamentally different between myself and Archimedes. But I have the benefit of his result without the difficulty of the work. So, I would say a "teacher" can have an enormous impact. A large number of very smart people get poor educations and are less able to leverage their intelligence. While a number of privileged morons get excellent educations and can at least not screw up daddy's fortune. It doesn't take brains to be successful, it takes knowledge.
It takes perseverance and forbearance most of all.
Are they wrong?
Only insofar as the existence of their profession as a government institution is a giant fraud.
Perhaps not. However if they are not wrong then teacher's being the most important influence in a child's education is wrong.
We've had to have intervention specialists work with our daughter in reading. She's improved greatly and is almost up to speed on the grade level. I've seen what good, dedicated teachers can do.
I've seen what good, dedicated teachers can do.
They should form a professional guild of some sort.
Great educators with a natural humanist outlook who do it as a labor of love are indispensable asset to a community in my view.
For sure. But the unions protect the worst teachers, not just the best. Like cops, most are good folks doing their best. But the bad ones can't be removed easily and are protected by their colleagues and union.
Agree. Public unions should go. Private ones are fine.
Talk about strawmen. I don't hold any of those beliefs*, but I still think they're full of shit on a lot of things.
*Possibly excepting "teachers are well paid". In many areas, they certainly are.
I also like how someone in teaching nine whole years already believes she knows what is fact and what is myth for all the teachers in the USA, not just in her particular school.
I don't think that going to work for 8.5 hours a day and having some followup at home is the brutal death march that teachers claim. Especially elementary school teachers. High school, where coaching and extracurricular sponsorship might genuinely keep you away from your family a couple nights a week and maybe some weekends is different. That's the entry level of a professional job, which teachers claim they have.
I dare teachers to complain to the aspiring CPA or attorney who is working a gazillion hours a week, with a whopping 10 PTO and 6 standard holidays off a year, and who spends nights studying for their certification exams, to complain about how hard they work. Go ahead, trade places for a year.
Based on how much my wife made, I'd say teachers are well paid.
A few years back, I calculated that my wife would work a little over half as many hours as I did in a typical year. In exchange for that, she got paid about sixty percent of what I made, for a much easier job and now, at 54, she's retired with an excellent pension. My pension is zero no matter when I retire.
Your wife must by mythical, according to the authors.
Yeah, that mythical summer vacation. I guess I dreamed that when I was a kid.
Teachers are incredibly well paid compared to most entry-level jobs.
When I was in Arkansas, first year teachers made, at a minimum, $42,000 starting out. Lots of 22 year olds would love a job like that.
Then you have the close-to $1,000 mandatory step increase in salary each year. Less than 10 years in, you're making $50,000+ base salary. Not too shabby for being "underpaid".
And that's not even counting benefits, raises, time off, etc.
Being a teacher is definitely super stressful, but so are about a billion other jobs that take more time and pay you less.
The FBI will be investigating who hacked the Democratic National Committee and provided thousands of internal emails to Wikileaks.
Why bother? No reasonable prosecutor would bring charges.
Just a security review.
No mens rea?
You keep the female cycle out of this.
If Hillary wins can we set up a system where for every year of her term that the US is not involved in a war, directly or via proxies, she gets a cool one billion dollars?
Dammit, stop giving her ideas!
An excellent idea. How about we give 25% of whatever the prez cuts out of the federal budget from the previous year to them in gold/cash? Only good on actual year over year spending reductions, calculated at the end of his/her term.
Actually, 1% would probably still be a yuuuuge financial incentive.
I'd take that action!
At least 30 arrested at Guns N' Roses concert in New Jersey
Ok, we know about the band, but what happened at the concert?
Moker's here all week!
Glad to see that G'n'R fans are still trashy.
Welcome to the jungle.
I'm imagining a coked-up stripper becoming indignant and then violent when they ask her not to perform her routine.
Aren't they getting too old for this shit? Who is watching the grandkids???
Obligatory
The arrests occurred at Saturday night's show at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. Investigators say 30-year-old Kimberly Goodman was charged with aggravated assault against two state troopers, who received minor injuries.
That's the po-po's side of the story. What really happened?
How is this national news? This describes like, every rock concert ever.
The headline selection algorithm saw the word "guns" and immediately promoted it.
+1 Get in the Ring
Kenny Chesney is unimpressed.
Hopefully Verizon isn't bringing Yahoo's lame-ass CEO along for the ride.
Pretty sure ditching her and restructuring the board was more or less the entire point of the sale.
I read that she said she's staying.
Yeah, but in what capacity?
link
On her knees
I said "capacity", not "position".
A quart, give or take?
Meh, Mayer made some good moves there but Yahoo was already doomed.
She was shitty with some of the optics. Ditching telework, but building herself a nursery at the office...
Shelling out a mint for Tumblr was pure genius.
I did not work at Yahoo!, but know a few peeps who did before they bailed out of Yahoo! Colorado Center couple years ago in Santa Monica.
Mayer was brittle and manic; a particular affectation of hers was judging people by the school they went to (
Word to the wise commenter, certain string combos in parentheses are interpreted by local squirrels as code food and promptly eaten.
Mayer was brittle and manic; a particular affectation of hers was judging people by the school they went to.
Good God. I think I've worked with this woman before.
I'm kind of surprised Yahoo still even exists. Raise your hand if you've visited in the last ten years.
I get my most irrelevant links there.
They're a pretty major player in the fantasy sports market. Beyond that I'd guess most of their traffic is old people who maintain it as their home page out of habit.
Beyond that I'd guess most of their traffic is old people who maintain it as their home page out of habit because they can't figure out how to set a different home page.
FIFY.
Yahoo is the flashing 12:00 of websites.
LOL
Heh.
Yahoo is the flashing 12:00 of websites.
Totally stealing and (when appropriate) re-purposing this!
FANTASY SPORTZ!!!!
Go there and read the headlines (as well as the names of the "news" sources. It's kind of like the Onion meets news for 5 year olds.
I'll shamefully admit to still having my professional email account over there. Just too lazy to create a knew one... The links there keeps my ''hearing about stuff no one cares about but retired people'' skills well trained when I have to call my mom.
How can we be in the libertarian moment while we still don't have an edit button?
Yahoo has become unusable in her tenure. It used to be a good news and sports site.
British Columbia to charge furrinerz 15% extra tax on real estate
Something something, move to Canada if Trump?
I think in twenty years all of the near-future science fiction from this era about the Chinese ruling over everyone is going to look as goofy as the 1980s' obsession with Japanese economic dominance.
Twenty years from now our obsession over everything's going to look pretty goofy.
"We must limit the market for real estate to protect land prices!"
"If we destroy foreign demand, prices will drop!"
I highly recommend comments to a discerning reader, too.
I didn't know Trump was running in Canada
The person who wrote that? $50 says he despises Trump and Trumpettes and can't believe how stupid Americans are.
I will not take that bet as he or she or it are the rule and not the exception I'm afraid.
"We must limit the market for real estate to protect land prices!"
Actually, here in The Lower Rainland?, the natural geography's doing a damn fine job of that already...
Ooh I think I know how this story goes... provincial government gets addicted to the revenue.. extends tax to all real estate purchases... is surprised when 99 year leases suddenly become fashionable.
...extends tax to all real estate purchases...
The B.C. government already has the property-transfer tax, which netted them over 2 billion last year alone. The last thing those jackholes want is to slow the churn in properties here.
Canadian shell companies for the win!
So... rich foreigners gobble up real estate and fill the local treasury - and many of them don't even live there. I hear this "complaint" all the time in NYC too, but...
I fail to see the problem with this.
We've done the opposite - we offer the EB-5 visa to investors who are willing to put up $1MM. For NYC real estate developers, it's easy to meet the requirements.
The problem is that it drives up the cost of housing for the people who actually do live there by inflating the market.
That isn't why Van has high prices for housing. It's lack of supply caused by government.
That'll solve their problems.
What is it with the West coast and weird ideas? Here on the east coast it's stupid all around, but what's their excuse?
Seattle is just below us, so bad ideas keep trickling up.
This one is our own, I think. Lots of people here want cheap real estate, and hey, demand high - prices go up is too complicated. Especially with density being low. So, blame The Inscrutable Chinamen, cause we got no Jews, I guess....
They are infested with Progs. Progs emote and don't use reason or logic. It's pretty simple.
It's the rain. Makes the logical part of your brain moldy.
Pollsters now know why they were wrong about Brexit
Man, its crazy how they all bias one way.
Britain is still reeling from the shock of its Brexit referendum,
Why do I seriously doubt that?
the pollsters got six things wrong
The polls weren't that far off. Barely outside the margin of error, is my recollection. I think the polls showed a dead heat, and Brexit won by, what 4.5%?
Its mostly that nobody (who matters) wanted to believe that there was a very distinct possibility that Brexit would win.
But, now is the time where the future's recollection of what actually happened is forged.
Shades of when Trump wins in a landslide...
I was waiting for the yokel excuse.
Non-graduates are over-represented on poles?
But were they as wrong as your link?
While there seemed to have been "momentum" towards the REMAIN side in the final days, it's not unusual for polling to detect nonexistent movement.
Also, other than the crazy 55-45 (clear) outlier of a poll released on the day of the referendum (which could have, ironically, actually affected the result because voters are weird like that), the actual election result difference ended up being within the margin of error of the vast majority of polls going back weeks.
There was no "mistake". Statistically speaking, the polls got it right.
This.
Trump for the win.
Honestly, one of the few positives of a Trump victory (besides the media actually holding the President accountable again and Democrats possibly considering the dangers of an Imperial Presidency) is the possibility of Clinton absolutely losing her shit. Especially if Trump promises to have the FBI look back into her email scandal.
Talk about "cracks in the glass ceiling"! 😎
Since no reasonable prosecutor would bring charges, only Trump would appoint an unreasonable one.
Chris Christie?
Oh, the wailing and gnashing of teeth would be the best part of a Trump victory, much as I despise the man.
RE: The Turkish government, having survived the coup attempt, is now cracking down on journalists.
Hopefully Trump the Grump and Heil Hitlary is paying attention to this crackdown on journalists.
There's something to be learned here, and I'm sure both candidates are taking copious notes on what the Turkish government is doing.
There will be no film at 10:00.
Gary Johnson and his Libertarians aren't an alternative
The libertarians of 1787 opposed ratification of the Constitution ? but we ratified it.
Who is 'we,' and how goddamn old are they?
If only current politicians would ratify the Constitution...
I always love the one-two punch of, "libertarians are unpopular and never win," followed by, "libertarianism doesn't work in practice."
Oh, Chapman. Will you ever win?
Chapman's like the DA who was always up against Perry Mason.
Programs for special needs students "make us more prosperous"? And are something only the federal government can fund?
That's the thing people like this always believe. Unless there's a federal bureaucracy, no local or state programs would exist. Of course, if you were even that concerned about it, you could just have a federal law requiring certain standards, and not need a multi-billion-dollar federal agency with people sitting around on high-paid 25-hour work weeks to 'make sure it happens', but I'm sure that's beyond the writer's comprehension.
My wife's a teacher and likes to bitch about whatever cockamamie new idea Christie's dept of education is trying to implement each year and how disconnected from reality the objectives are. I'm hopeful she'll eventually make the leap and realize that reality holds true across all industries and levels of government.
My wife is a teacher as well up here and it's the exact same thing. I think teachers as a whole in North America have the same beef. I've had some pretty interesting conversations with teachers over the years. Believe you me, they're well aware A) the government is retarded and B) the unions exist for its own sake and not to really protect them of anything. They're just as frustrated as we are on issues on, for example, firing dead weight or bad teachers.
Believe it or not, much of the criticism teacher's face is usually because of government bull shit that forces it on them.
It's always a dishonest misnomer of an argument by the lefties.
"Oh, so you don't want police or roads or fire departments."
I'm pretty damn sure if all the government did were roads, police and fire departments, Libertarians would be doing cartwheels.
We need to invest more money in that which offers the least returns. That's the true path to prosperity.
Programs for special needs students "make us more prosperous"? And are something only the federal government can fund?
Don't try to understand it, d00d. It's like a Zen koan ? strictly speaking, it's mostly meant to shock your rationality.
Can confirm, I took Rothbard and Rand on a trip in my time machine once. Managed to convince Aaron Burr to duel Hamilton too. Even went back to 1917 and made sure communism would fail, can't let anyone know it's the perfect system after all.
Liar. Everyone knows what happens when you place For A New Liberty in the same bag as Atlas Shrugged.
Hey, I didn't let them off at the same stop, I'm not stupid.
What's funny is that, after pointing out that libertarians lost on the big issues (thus "proving" that we don't have a libertarian model of government), she concludes that its an idea that doesn't work in practice.
Unlike the socialists, she pretty well proves that libertarians can actually, truthfully claim "Its never been tried, so how can you say it wouldn't work".
The projects? Are they really going with this?
Dallas has affordable housing. Because they let developers build wherever they want.
And it only got ratified because Alexander Hamilton and his goons argued the 18th century equivalent of the "penaltax" argument. To paraphrase Hamilton to the state legislatures he said "If you like your unenumerated powers, you can keep your unenumerated powers."
There's no reason to regard the Constitution as a sacrosanct and infallible document. It is after all, the government giving itself permission to do all sorts of things that inevitably expanded in scope. Don't make me bust out the Lysander Spooner quotes...
bust out the Lysander Spooner quotes!
That's a euphemism if I've ever heard one.
But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain?that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case it is unfit to exist.
You beat me home
If any man's money can be taken by a so-called government, without his own personal consent, all his other rights are taken with it; for with his money the government can, and will, hire soldiers to stand over him, compel him to submit to its arbitrary will, and kill him if he resists.
A man's natural rights are his own, against the whole world; and any infringement of them is equally a crime, whether committed by one man, or by millions; whether committed by one man, calling himself a robber, (or by any other name indicating his true character,) or by millions, calling themselves a government.
To be fair, it's a collection of restrictions on the government, not the other way around, as so many in modern times want people to think.
It does grant the federal government power to do things, that's why Hamilton pushed it by promising that those powers would be only enumerated, not implicit. He lied knowingly and confessed to that fact not long after ratification.
Scientists have a fascinating theory to explain why smart people should spend less time with friends
I think it has more to do with an unwillingness / incapability of ignoring all the stupid things your friends say.
This is also proof of why libertarians are the smartest people in the room.
NOW GET OFF MY LAWN
There is a little something to that, however I find my smartest friends say some really dumb things, frequently about economics and politics.
I find it fascinating how otherwise highly intelligent people can so poorly reason their views. I guess when you add in cultural cues and social pressures, the importance of genuine "intelligence" in determining ones views is mostly negated but for a very select few sober rationalists.
Friend of mine is a minarchist of a Hayekian bent, he also has an IQ sufficient to grant him membership in MENSA. He attended a MENSA meeting and realized that he was the only person in the room of about 200 people that wasn't somewhere between a warmed over moderate or an full on Marxist.
That's one reason I never bothered to join. Besides, how interesting or fun can it be to attend a meeting of people who spend so much emotional effort trying to prove they are smarter than everyone. I know (myself included) a fair number of people who would qualify, and we all pretty much think Mensa members are giant douchebags.
Said more succinctly, your value as a human being is not solely based on an arbitrary measure of your "intelligence."
I meant that your capacity for intelligence does not necessarily translate to an ability to properly reason. It's one thing to think, but another to actually know how to think.
Your value as a human being, I believe is more about what you can offer others. Intelligent and rational people can typically offer more, as it happen but that doesn't mean people can't create value in other ways.
Once I figure out how these fucking magnets work I'll have time to hang out with you small-brained losers!
I must have a 400 IQ then.
"I'm just too intelligent."
A solid plan if you goal is to alienate your friends by being a cunt.
Do what i did, just drop off the map without telling anyone.
You ghosted everyone?
I am still trying to find the edge of the map.
See, it's not Asperger's, it's high intelligence.
Socializing is time not spent creating cool shit or building stuff.
Why do you think I post here so infrequently anymore?
Sad!
That explains most of my life.
What difference, at this point, does it make?
...namely, what sort of cool movie trailers were shown for the first time at the San Diego Comic Convention
NO SPOILERS
Insane Clown Posse: Rap Duo Announces 2017 Juggalo March on Washington, DC
Well, we'll need to put some plastic down.
I'm thinking this will make DC classier for a day.
Juggalos are planning something 14 months in advance? Are their calendars really that packed?
It takes a while to make all the crystal meth needed for a juggalo gathering. Plus they need to convince a few of the local stores to start carrying Faygo.
"My homie Stank Dougie gots the dopest organizin' skills an' shit, but he ain't gettin' out of the slammer till next September, so we gots to wait till then, yo."
They need to fit this in between guest spots on Springer and Maury.
I'm going to laugh my ass off if the Juggalo rally outdraws all of those DC rallies supporting very important causes.
You are a terrible human being. I admire that in a person.
They are gonna demand that Congress finally do something about gynecomastia.
'Don't use our song!' Stars band together to sing hilarious message on John Oliver after Donald Trump used more songs without permission at the Republican convention
Stars. Also, isn't this the sort of thing that John Oliver should be making fun of?
If you buy the compulsory license, then licensed performances of the song aren't really theirs any more, are their?
Damn you...
Statutory licensing is a bitch, ain't it?
John Oliver is a bit like the offspring who continuously disappoints you, despite early promise.
...Father?
He bought the license, he has all the permission he needs.
Don't want anyone playing your stuff without your individual permission? Pull it out of the big blanket license operation, watch it disappear from public view, and watch your revenue disappear.
I do wish Trump would call them on it, though. Seems the kind of thing he does, and does well.
Fucking John Cougar.
I've seen every single one of his concerts whenever he came up here except one but I'd be lying if I didn't think him participating in these sort of stupidities don't disappoint me.
All Right Now was no problem though? Stanford profs must still be stamping their feet about that one.
"The FBI will be investigating who hacked the Democratic National Committee and provided thousands of internal emails to Wikileaks."
I see Rich already did this joke, but here I go anyway:
"We conclude that there is insufficient proof that Mr. Putin had the specific intent to break the law, so we recommend against prosecution."
If Berniebots don't like being part of the Borg, I suggest they find another political party. But the political ideology they seem to prefer would mean the outcome of that would be the same.
Bernie really should "evolve" into taking Jill Stein's offer.
The FBI will be investigating who hacked the Democratic National Committee and provided thousands of internal emails to Wikileaks.
I'm genuinely curious: what federal laws may have been broken by acquiring and/or publishing these emails?
I don't see any fraud or identity theft even alleged, at this point. So what potential crimes are being investigated, FBI? I'm sure there are some, but what are they, exactly?
Isn't violating the DMCA the go-to charge when the internet is involved?
Making Hillary look bad isn't a felony....yet.
I thought it was the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.
Unauthorized access to a computer network.
OK, but what provision of the DMCA are we talking about, that would support federal charges?
The FYTW clause, of course.
1201? I think Fraud and Abuse is more appropriate as JB points out, but this
wired link
points to companies using a combination of both to go after hacking.
To the extent that DMCA 1201 is used in cases of "hacking", it is generally companies suing people who find security vulnerabilities in their products -- not really applicable to the present situation.
The mentioned Ticketmaster case is the one that I'm aware of that most resembles what people conceive of as "hacking", and even then, not really. CFAA is a lot more likely in my non-professional opinion.
Guy who said DMCA is wrong.
CFAA probably. It is the "hacking law". Even if it wasn't a "hack" and was instead an inside leaker, it still might apply ("exceeds authorized access").
IANAL, obv, but see here. And Orrin (sp?) Kerr at Volokh writes about it a lot.
Thanks, gang.
At this point, it sounds like digital trespassing, in effect. But, of course, that requires that you believe people can have some kind of property rights in digital intellectual property, which many reject outright.
"digital trespassing"
My nominee for Best Masturbation Euphemism, 2016.
Yes, obviously the important part here is the details of *who uncovered* evidence of collusion between a national political organization and an independent campaign, between the national political organization and members of the supposedly impartial media, and between the national political organization and the organizers of violent protests, and how, so that such things can be never exposed again.
The Mall of the Future Will Offer Dinner, Movies, and a Colonoscopy
So, terrorist incidents are now called "colonoscopies"?
Depends on where the terrorist hides his bomb.
I think the terrorists learned to stop hiding bombs there after that one guy in Saudi Arabia tried that.
Use this one weird trick to turn yourself inside-out.
It's not a reference to the DHS/TSA ass-raping?
"Dinner, movies and Colonscopies" for when libertarians become old farts and can't handle weed, Mexicans, and Butt Secks anymore.
It's only considered a "full-service" colonoscopy if an automatic weapon and a funnel are involved.
All movies will start with a promotional cartoon of Butters singing What What (In the Butt)
Beijing: 1 Woman Killed and 1 Injured in Tiger Attack at Safari Park
Never get out of the boat car!
People need to take responsibility for their parents, so stuff like this doesn't happen.
What the US needs is a 'good, old-fashioned economic depression'
They've been leaning on the credit expansion for so long, it's going to be seriously ugly.
Malinvestment? Don't these yahoos know that only the smartest, most goodthink go into government and invest money? Or do they mean silly 401(k)s held by private citizens who aren't TOP. MEN.
Good. America could use a New New Deal in response to said depression.
Or a Greater Society?
Well, Trump is promising to make society great again, so there's that.
Recessions find things that even the best examiners cannot. Recessions serve a purpose. Recessions stop unproductive asset bubbles and wipeout the artificial paper wealth created by them. Recessions also eliminate weak businesses and create growth opportunities for the ones strong enough and lucky enough to survive it. You come out on the other side with a better and more rational economy.
But real recessions also used to make a few rich and important people poor and unimportant. And that is why the government invented monetarism and Keysnesian stimulus, to keep that from happening.

Planned Parenthood Turns to Tumblr to Reach a Younger Audience
New season of Bojack Horseman already covered this on their abortion episode.
I wonder if their corporate headquarters is on the Autobahn?
Jack in the Box: Video Appears to Show Deputy Pulling Gun on Restaurant Employee in California
Did he order the liter of cola?
The video doesn't tell the whole story.
In the cop's defense, most drive-thru employees do seem autistic.
But he didn't shoot a random black customer.
So what's the problem?
yeah so the guy who blew himself up in Germany? = they can't spin that one as 'Depression', sadly
Glad to see Reason staying on top of the story.
More gun control and anti-rape pamphlets will fix it.
Hey! Maybe he was depressed because he hadn't killed enough people!
Supposedly, initial BBC headline on that story was
"Syrian Migrant Dies in Germany Blast"
Sometimes it's an art!
I can't wait to read Dalmia's next article about how the migrants represent an unqualified economic and social gain to Germany. Maybe with some screeching about how Donald Trump caused the bombers to go on jihad with his toxic nativist rhetoric.
It's replacing the broken windows. Priceless stimulus.
A broken windows theory that a great many libertarians are guilty of unfortunately.
Good. Some guy named 'blank' called me 'Islamaphobic' for a comment about this last night.
I am reading at least a double-layer of 1-1/2" thick snark on that.
At first I thought he was being sarcastic. Then I read up thread how serious he was. "Delusional" is the more appropriate word.
They story you link to doesn't contradict the fact that he was psychologically out of it.
I saw Flight of the Conchords live last night. They are great. They are two charming, affable men. They have some very good new songs that will hopefully be released in some format soon.
Back to your regularly scheduled Trump.
I need better odds/more broads less rods.
That was one of many highlights: they played at a folk festival last week, so they had a folk version of "Too Many Dicks." That verse was Bret in his best Bob Dylan voice.
I am peanut butter and jealous. I'm glad to hear they put on a good show.
I came to do battle/ skedaddle with the cattle prods
And they did take a moment to complain about US Customs and how hard it is for someone to visit this country. Rock on!
Saw them here in the Dallas area in '09. Fantastic show, and bought much merch.
Wifey still has the TMD t-shirt...
YaWho?
BTW, Yahoo was described this morning as the bald, aging guy with a grey ponytail.
Boom.
That also describes roughly 80% of the people who still use Yahoo.
I'm not bald!
You can be balding and still rock the ponytail. Shhh, it's okay. Just own it.
Do NOT listen to waffles on this. There is nothing sadder than a skullytail; it screams aging, desperate hippy.
I don't know. The skullet is pretty bad.
Famed Oak Tree From 'Shawshank Redemption' Is Toppled by Heavy Winds
Ban wind!
Global warming takes another victim.
I thought the wind was supposed to be on our side.
I blame fish farming.
I heard this entire comment in Morgan Freeman's voice.
"#ShawshankTree" is a thing. God damn tweeter is fucking dumb.

Remember when we all thought the Libertarian Party would have the most embarrassing convention after that dude stripped naked on stage? Ah, such innocent times were those.
Good observation catch!
Harris County prosecutor throws mentally ill rape victim into jail for a month to coerce her into testifying:
Rape victim suing county after being jailed following courtroom collapse
And then made an idiotic video defending it.
And then deleted every negative comment and banned every negative poster from her Facebook page, leaving a clean page of idiots who support her.
I want to be outraged but maybe she's an easily triggered SJW who has falsely accused someone.
No, the guy she testified against is a serial rapist who got multiple life sentences.
Ah, then count me amongst the outraged!
Even if she had been "an easily triggered SJW who has falsely accused someone", you still should be outraged. In that case, she would've been jailed to force false testimony against the defendant.
In fact, I'm surprised the defense attorney didn't use that in cross examination when she finally went on the stand. "Was your release from jail conditioned on your testimony against the defendant"?
Ah, then count me amongst the outraged!
Clinton - Trump Double Sided Silver Coin
Hmm... tempting. Show me a commercial of Sam Waterston reading that copy, and they've got my federal reserve notes.
This guy needs $55k for those?
So 38 dollars for a stupendously ugly coin. I just don't understand the allure of precious metal coins. The underlying asset is priced at half that and in a shit-hits-the-fan scenario I can't eat the coin anyway.
Up next, the winner sends armed federal agents to shut down the people minting the coin for counterfeiting.
https://wikileaks.org/dnc-emails/emailid/2946
That's one of my favorite emails from the latest DNC trove. DNC bundler whining that she hasn't been invited to state dinners or been given an appointment to a commission. It just lays bare the reality of US politics -- it's all a pay-for-play scheme. They're not even hiding it anymore.
IT is so fucked up. Here is another example of why our politics are so fucked.
http://www.detroitnews.com/sto...../87055538/
The trophy wife of the idiot son of the founder of a successful pyramid scheme is all butt hurt that the Donald isn't paying her homage and they just don't know what they are going to do about it.
Think about that for a minute, how is that some billionaire idiot son and his trophy wife have come to have this much influence on the country? Even if you hate Trump, why are these clowns getting such a say?
I understand money talks and they have a right to buy their way in. But there is something really fucked up about that.
The idle rich have time and money to work on vanity projects?!?
She had a pet cause, school "choice", and apparently is heavily involved in state party. Maybe my experience with MA politics has jaded me, but she doesn't come off too badly in the article; other than being the sort of worthless garbage who is involved in politics.
The real scandal here is that she is considered a trophy wife.
It was a trophy for third-place.
The unintended consequences of "participation prizes".
Her name is Cookie Parker?
Yolanda "Cookie" Parker
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/m.....-the-crowd
She apparently owns a Los Angeles "software company" which apparently has no website. I'm guessing they get government contracts which is why she donates to politicians. That's the only kind of company that doesn't bother with having a website.
Nevermind - her company was acquired by SAP.
Good god, I thought even wikileaks redacted phone numbers. Now I'm REALLY glad I've never emailed the DNC.
JournoList scum running the Washington Post holds an illegal fundraiser with the DNC for the Snukeapotamus.
Kind of disappointing that Jeff Bezos has hooked his wagon to the democrats like 90% of his media brethren, but not all that surprising, given that the overall tone of the paper might be even more far leftard now than it was before he bought it.
I wasn't going to link to this but I decided you're all a bunch of assholes. So here you go....
Much woke
Scholars have explored in depth how white people gain access through human subjectivity only through the creation of an "other" racial designation that lacks humanity.
I am quite good at extracting meaning from convoluted prose, but . . . what?
I'm going to take a wild guess that the correct translation from Derp to English is "Whitey, fuck you!".
Ask your slaves to translate for you.
One of the best professors I had in university was teaching a class on Asian nationalism and talking about a certain branch of dependency-theory-style Marxism that popped up in Chicomm intellectual circles. He explained that they believed that any kind of Western philosophical or cultural influences were inherently designed to benefit the West by enslaving and degrading the East. He then added, in a half whisper, "Of course, this would be really silly if Marx was a German who wrote in England."
Man, you do hate us,
I think the great mystery here...
...is how do websites like that actually continue to operate? do they make money? are they part of some network of activist-financed propaganda mills? It just boggles the mind that they generate any real lasting interest from *anyone*. Even SJW /psychoprogs get bored with their own shit in too-intense doses.
I honestly thought it was a joke site after I saw '4 Signs You're Cultural Appropriating Buddhism'. Buddhism's been 'culturally appropriated' since its first centuries of existing.
That's because people who write such nonsense are deranged and incredibly ignorant.
That's because people who write such nonsense are deranged and incredibly ignorant.
And don't understand Buddhism in the first place.
It's all just insanely stupid listicles there. It can't be real.

meh. its just anecdotal of my own experience being around lots of them in NYC. they'll honk their self-righteous horn but after a beer or two they'll get it out of their system and gab about Game of Thrones or something.
My long-held impression is that their political/cultural beliefs are inherently *shallow* and superficial, and more about 'virtue signaling' than any real genuine intellectual interest in political theory or activism. Once they think people "get" their steez, they have nothing left to sell people on, and they'll shut up.
*there are always exceptions. but they are a minority within the minority. and tend to be the stereotypical "fat, blue haired" types
In my 20 years in NYC I have only encountered a small handful of true progs. My circle thank god is quite sane. Mostly apolitical and even receptive to some of the nonsense I spout when I'm liquored up.
What's the mystery? How many linked to her site and said look at the retard. It's probably a better business model than writing thoughtful, intelligent, carefully cited articles.
TIL that treating other people with respect is a zero sum game.
Picture the "I am not the Messiah" scene from Life of Brian.
I kind of feel bad for the Bernie Bros. They really believed in him. They actually thought he was the last honest man in politics. Instead he turned out to be a court Eunuch for a fixed election and the most evil bitch in the universe. That has to be a real kick in the nuts.
I don't think he is a court Eunuch. I think the threat from Clinton was severe enough to put him in his place.
You know that Dem staffer was mysterious shot here in Washington a few weeks ago. No robbery, no motive, just walking home on Capitol Hill and someone shot him four times killing him. Maybe it was a random crime. But that is a pretty good neighborhood known for at most the random knockout game not for random murders. And people who may have dirt on Hillary do have a bad habit of turning up dead.
There is an enormous list of people associated with the Clintons who have died under mysterious circumstances. At some point, just how much "bad luck' can one couple have?
I've read through the list... I still harbor skepticism about it but yeah, it's suspicious. 120 murders in DC every year and most of them occur in the south and north east quadrants. Bloomingdale is close to the border, but there are not many murders in that area.
a pretty good neighborhood known for at most the random knockout game
Ah, city life.
The road I live on, if you tried to punch someone and run away, you'd still be visible 10 minutes later as you finally reached an intersection.
Does anyone know where Ted Cruz was that night? Cause that's totally the sort of thing the Zodiac Killer would do.
+1
Gee, if only we had a third party choice that wasn't a Republican lite beer that served as governor of the United States' biggest welfare case.
http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-823545
awwwww, mortgage payment due this week amsoc?
Yes, if only we had a President who would bravely take a stand in favor of deadbeats, the essential element of a productive economy.
I don't know what you are talking about.
I'm a little exasperated at the dirth of presidential candidates this year that won't end up killing hundreds of thousands of people in the ME and that aren't supported by right-wingers that are too crazy for today's GOP. Am I asking too much?
I don't know what you are talking about.
Read your link, you moron:
Am I asking too much?
Free shit isn't free.
Still 100 times better than Trump or Clinton.
Which wouldn't be news unless he's black. I wonder........ yep.
It's that wide-set nose!
The description was probably "A black man. Kinda funny lookin', ya know?"
That certainly seems more likely than "the guy was built like a division 1 defensive lineman"
Isn't this the place for a "gotta catch 'em all" reference.
I mean, burglary suspects, football players....
Donald Trump is doing an AMA on the "The Donald" subreddit on Reddit on Thursday.
Should be wild fun.
"Do you prefer calling Republicans that don't support you cuckservatives or simply cucks?"
That's about the deepest that crowd can manage.
The autistic man that the officer tried to shoot because he was holding a deadly toy truck has been hospitalized in a psych ward ever since
For days, Rios had remained hospitalized in the same dirty clothes and blood-stained jacket he was wearing
What the ever-lovin' fuck? I've had two inpatient psych wards, and nobody, but nobody, spent more than a day in the clothes they came in with. We kept an inventory of "goodwill" clothes for people who didn't have a change (mostly involuntary/emergency detention nutters).
Verizon is buying most of Yahoo for $4.8 billion.
I hope they leave the tumblr porn alone.
Tumblr is about $4,799,999 of the value of Yahoo right now.
Actually, Verizon/AOL have been clear that the crown jewels are Yahoo's content network (News, Sports, Finance) and adtech. Yahoo has been having an awful time trying to monetize Tumblr.
I'm thinking Netscape is more likely.
Netscape is owned by AOL, not Yahoo (although Verizon owns AOL too).
I read in the WSJ this afternoon that at its peak, Yahoo! was valued at $125 billion.
It was really overvalued. As is a lot of other tech/media companies.
This 4.8 billion is just the core assets of Yahoo, the worthless ones. The alibaba stake and the patents are not part of the sale.
Whose idea was it to hold Comic-Con at the same time as the RNC and DNC?
It's not like the hookers have a tough decision on which convention to work.
The Joker?
Speaking of Comic-Con, this is so goddamned funny that I don't know how my drawers aren't soaked right now
Too bad the LP convention wasn't in San Diego.
Does anyone else find it funny that the anti-big business, bank-hating Democrats are having their convention in the WELLS FARGO Center/
Proof that the banks control all "The People's" speech-rights. Where can they be free of this capitalist constraint?
I'd be surprised if someone doesn't work how many names that building has had thanks to bank consolidation.
(It was much more Philly-esque when it was the FU Center (First Union Center))

Early reports of 15 dead and dozens injured in knife attack outside of Tokyo.
*insert standard snark about banning fully automatic assault knives*
I was gonna post some crack about it, but, according to Our State Broadcaster's early report, it was done
a) at night
b) at a facility for disabled
that the murdered used to work at. Fuck, at that point it goes beyond murder, into literal butchery of twice-over helpless people.
The sadistic part of me wants to make the killer (he turned himself in) into a paraplegic and ask him every day why he hasn't killed himself yet.
