A jury has awarded Adbul Salaam $70,000 after he was beaten by three Baltimore police officers following  a traffic stop for alleged cellphone and seat belt violations. An internal investigation by the police department cleared the officers of using excessive force.

The internal investigation no doubt found the man was at fault for repeatedly running into the stationary fists (or other blunt objects) of the officers in question.

Why have we allowed our presence in a vehicle to become a constitution-free area?

There are lots of countries that issue traffic violation tickets by mail with no interaction between police and citizen.

I don't really like the idea, but I'm starting to thinking it is preferable to a close encounter.

I'm more of the opinion that they should only be permitted to issue a citation if it actually causes an issue rather than as either a precautionary or revenue-generating measure.

Given the current climate and state of affairs around cops, these assholes had probably better start punishing the crooked in their ranks.... The days of the good ol' boy cops frat are numbered. In fact, why do we still allow cops to investigate cops?

Sadly, it's not just cops, it's pervasive throughout government. Just take a look at some of the biggest stories throughout the past few years and a pattern emerges. The IRS, Gold King mine, Flint Michigan, HRC's emails, not to mention all of the questionable police shootings that have happened over the past couple of years. There have been so many that it's really hard to keep track. And, the government has cleared itself pretty much without exception.

FYI, Abdul Salaam literally means "The Servant of Peace" in Arabic. Those who "protect and serve" were unjustly beating he who serves peace.
